The Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Elders’ Forum on Wednesday defended their opposition to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan when he contested the 2011 and the 2015 presidential elections.

The groups, in separate interviews with The PUNCH, indicated that they had no regrets for their position in the two elections.

On its part, the ACF while justifying its position, said leaders should learn to honour their words.

The spokesman for NEF, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, told one of our correspondents on the telephone that the North worked against the former President because he and his party jettisoned the power shift (zoning) policy.

He said the forum never hid the reason for working against Jonathan, as according to him, “We told him(Jonathan)why we worked against him,” he stated.

He added that the forum expected the former President to respect the zoning formula shortly after the death of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua but regrettably, Jonathan and his party reneged on the zoning agreement.

The former Ahmadu Bello University vice-chancellor, stated, “Yes, it is true that Northern Elders’ Forum worked against Jonathan and we told him why.

“They themselves (PDP) admitted that they made a mistake in reneging on the power shift and why what happened happened,” the spokesman said.

On its part, the ACF adduced the same reason for working against the former President and his party, saying Jonathan contested in 2011 and 2015 against the arrangement of his party that zoned the presidency to the North.

The National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim-Biu, told one of our correspondents that the former President’s assertion that the North worked against him was odd, considering the “circumstances at that time.” The spokesman admonished Nigerian leaders to always honour agreements they entered into.

He said, “It is on record that Jonathan contested the 2011 and 2015 polls against the zoning arrangement of his party that zoned the presidential slot to the North.

“Therefore, his assertions that Northern leaders and socio-political groups in the North worked against his presidency is rather odd, considering the circumstances at that time.

“Yet the ruling party secured 25 per cent in most states of the North. It may interest you to know that his party has since admitted the oversight in the party winning game plan.”

He added, “This clearly means that leaders should always honour their words with deeds if they want to earn the respect of their followers.”

The former President, in his new book, ‘My Transition Hour’ had said that he battled opposition from Northern leaders and socio-political groups, which felt he was usurping power from the region.

Jonathan said the northern power blocs had tried to deny him his constitutional right of contesting the 2010 presidential election after the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua in 2010.

According to him, despite the threats and opposition, he was able to win the 2011 election.

Controversy is said to be currently trailing the award of oil facilities surveillance contract to a the tune of $18.48million by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), without adherence to the nation's Public Procurement Act, which is a violation of extant rules.

SaharaReporters reliably learnt that on September 26, 2018, NNPC approved the contract for the security surveillance of the 87-kilometre Trans-Forcados Pipeline (TFP) to Ocean Marine Solution Limited, owned by a Benin business mogul, Captain Hosa Okunbo, at $18.48 million.

Expressing displeasure over the way the contract was awarded, officials of the Joint Venture Partners who spoke in confidence with SaharaReporters, said the contract was done in secret and characterised by fraud, alleging that it was in violation of the Public Procurement Act, the statutory rule guiding how public contracts and services are awarded. As a result, they have refused to agree to the new contract terms with Ocean Marine because of the "inflated value".

One of the officials said: "The contract has started raising dust in various circles. We are the operators of the asset; we refused to agree to the new contract terms with Ocean Marine because of the inflated value which will eventually be paid by us through ‘Cash Call’. NPDC could not proceed with signing off on the contract because we, the Joint Venture Partners, had declined.

"Following the decline, NNPC took it upon themselves to award the contract, claiming that an executive order issued from the Presidency demands that the contract be awarded immediately. The terms of reference of the contract is meant to last for five renewable months, coming with some other conditions spelling out penalties that may attend loss of products or breaches to parts of the length of the pipeline."

Another official who spoke to SaharaReporters said: “There are many questions on the lips of the people demanding answers, such as what is the rational for re-awarding a running contract to a new contractor, at a value almost four times the rate it had previously been awarded to the former contractor? Who issued the said Executive Order? Why the secrecy and why shut out others who could deliver same service at a far lesser bid?

"Why exclude the previous contractor, who had delivered an impeccable service, because there were no negative incidents on the facilities for the period the former contractor ran it. The NNPC, with all its baggage, must provide answers to these questions. I guess you are aware that there have been a couple of very shady and questionable events that have been reported out of the corporation in the last few months, bordering on the question of non-remittance of accruals as well as awards that fell short of meeting due process.

"I think President Buhari should take another look at the way that place is being run by those he has placed in charge. NNPC is directly under his watch and things like this can’t be sailing every time and he should expect us to continue believing he is still a man of integrity."

Our correspondent gathered that the Joint Venture Partners, including Heritage Energy Operational Services Ltd and Shoreline Natural Resources, are said not to be in good working relationship with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), over the alleged fraudulent manner the contract was awarded.

Speaking on the process leading to the approval of the contract, an official of the Delta State Government, specifically in the Ministry of Justice, who preferred not to be named, said the process was full of "sharp practices".

"You see this issue concerning the award of the contract, which was among the issues that made the youth lead a protest to the Government House in Asaba a few weeks ago, is a very pathetic and controversial one. Our ministry has been relating with some of these Joint Venture partners and along the line, we got know that the contract was a backdoor deal among few individuals in NNPC," he said.

A former House of Assembly member from the Delta South senatorial district and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also with information about the contract, raised several objections over the manner the contract was awarded.

He said: "This is in violation of the Public Procurement Act, which is the statutory rule guiding how public contracts and services are awarded. First, it is stipulated that no contract from the tune of $20million can be awarded by any MDA without deliberation and the express permission of the Federal Executive Council. This approval by the NNPC, although cleverly spread so that it will look like it has not reached the $20million threshold, has violated that act.

"No one is happy over the arbitrary and unexplained inflation of the contract sum, as well as the choice of the NNPC to beat the standing rule that no ministry, department and agency can award a contract that is up to $20million in value; others are expressing their concerns as well. This is just a conduit pipe contract to fund the APC campaigns in the 2019 general elections."

In his remarks on the matter, spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Daniel Dasimaka, highlighted the inherent security threat associated with the new contract approved by the NNPC to Ocean Marine, adding that they might not have paid attention to the serious threat this poses to the peace and security of the communities and Delta State in general.

"There's a running contract, approved by the operators of the assets to a contactor that has been doing an awesome job on the assets; no reports of negative incidents and the communities are happy. Imagine the sort of tension that has greeted this new approval in just a few days, the silent and cold wars. This is a latent crisis situation on our hands and I won't buy the narrative that they never envisaged a war from this.

"Why award an already running contract to another company and the contract now inflated to about five times the rate of the initial contract. Awarding a security job to two different companies, in an area that is considered volatile is a perfect recipe for chaos and a sabotage to the relative peace of the area. Polarizing the youth bodies and ex agitators is only a recipe for renewed militancy.

"The mindset of the youth is often times focused on destroying or attacking oil infrastructure to gain relevance and recognition. NNPC should not create the opportunity for this to happen.

My appeal will go first to the GMD of the NNPC to have a second look at this security-risk of an action. Why approve such a huge contract without the input of the operators? Is it for lack of better coordination or is there something that the eyes mustn't see?

The IYC spokesman, therefore, called on all security agencies, the DSS, Nigerian Armed Forces and the Police to address the situation.

Youth and ex-militants from the 111 communities who are hosts to OML 30 assets had raised the alarm over an impending chaos in their communities and the state, on the allegation that the NNPC's alliance with Ocean Marine was about to deprive them of their means of livelihood.

When contacted, Ndu Ughamadu, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, declined to comment immediately our correspondent introduced the issue, saying "Please I am in a meeting, call back in an hour." When a call was put across to him after an hour, he asked our correspondent to redirect his inquiry to his WhatsApp line, which was done. However, he did not responded.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has condoled with the Nigerian Army over attacks by Boko Haram on Sunday that led to loss of officers and men of the 157 Task Force Battalion in Maitile, Borno State.

He also declared an endowment to provide full financial scholarships to five children of the slain soldiers of the battalion up to whatever level they are able and willing to reach at the American University of Nigeria, Yola.

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction of Boko Haram, had on Sunday attacked a military base in Maitile, a remote village in Borno State.

The insurgents dislodged the troops from the base before it was reclaimed with aerial support.
The former vice president described the deaths of the officers as very painful, stressing that the loss of even one member of the armed forces pierces his heart, saying they did not have to die, because they volunteered to do a job that keeps this nation safe.

Atiku, in a statement he personally signed yesterday, called on the federal government to think about setting up a benevolent fund for the support of widows and children of the fallen military heroes, run by an independent body, to which the public and corporate bodies could pay in funds, saying this is the least that we owe these gallant heroes.

He stated, “The gallant men and women of our security services are our first and last line of defence against enemies of our nation and deserve the support and confidence of all Nigerians. We sleep well at night in our beds, because they stay awake uncomfortably in the fields.

“I feel immense sadness when I think of the families they leave behind and pray for Almighty God to grant their surviving family members fortitude to bear up in a time like this.

“These men and women gave their best and we must reciprocate their sacrificial giving. Therefore, instead of celebrating my birthday this year, which is coming up in a few days, I choose to rather celebrate our fallen heroes.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Wednesday intervened in the interbank foreign exchange market by injecting the sum of $210 million into the market.

The central bank offered the sum of $100 million in the wholesale segment, while the small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) segment received the sum of $55 million.

Similarly, the invisibles segment, comprising tuition fees, medical payments and Basic Travel Allowance (BTA), among others, also received a $55 million boost.


The Director, Corporate Communications at the CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, while confirming the figures, said the CBN was pleased with the state of the forex market, adding that the Bank would continue to intervene in order to sustain the liquidity in the market and guarantee the international value of the naira.

He said the Bank was determined to achieve its objective of exchange rate stability, thus the continued injection in the foreign exchange market.

According to him, the level of transparency in the market was also a confidence boost for the market.

The CBN in its intervention last week injected the sum of $318.03m and CNY 62.18m into the Retail Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS).

COMMERCIAL banks got N956.64 billion loans from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in three months to boost their liquidity positions and meet commitment to customers, the quarterly economic report released by the apex bank has shown.

The report, for the third quarter showed that Standing Lending Facility (SLF) daily average transaction value amounted to N19.13 billion in 50 transaction-days, with total interest earned at N3.07 billion.

The apex bank’s tough monetary policy stance has led banks to borrow more. The Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) – benchmark interest — has remained at 14 per cent since July 2016 despite rising calls from economic experts for a lower interest rate. This has raised banks’ demand for CBN’s loans to boost their liquidity.

“Total request for the Standing Lending Facility (SLF) inclusive of Intra-day lending facilities (ILF) that was converted to overnight repo during the review quarter stood at N956.64 billion, compared with N3,960.24 billion in the preceding quarter. Daily average transaction value amounted to N19.13 billion in 50 transaction-days, with total interest earned at N3.07 billion,” it said.

“The banks continued to access the CBN’s Standing Facilities window to square up their positions either by borrowing from the standing lending facility (SLF) window or depositing excess reserves at the standing deposit facility (SDF) window of the CBN at the end of each business day,” it added.

Total standing deposit facility (SDF) granted during the review period was N5.5 trillion, with daily average of N91.09 billion, in contrast to N5.9 trillion, in the second quarter of 2018. The cost incurred on SDF in the review quarter amounted to N1.99 billion, compared with N2.15 billion in the preceding quarter.

The SLF and SDF were available for market participants to square up their positions or invest excess funds at the close of business. Similarly, Intra-day Liquidity Facility (ILF) was accessible as temporary credit to the banks to meet their funding needs within the operating hours of the CBN Inter-bank Funds Transfer System (CIFTS).

The report also said that the total assets and liabilities of the commercial banks stood at N36.2 trillion at end-August 2018, representing 0.8 per cent increase over the level at end-June 2018. The funds were sourced, largely, from mobilisaion of unclassified and foreign liabilities, and realisation of claims on CBN.

The funds were used, mainly, for payment of matured demand deposits, accretion to reserves and extension of credit to the private sector.

Nigerian airlines, presidential fleet, Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Police spend an estimated $2.5 billion annually in conducting C-check and other levels of aircraft maintenance overseas, Akelicious’s investigations have revealed.

Akelicious gathered that most of the funds are expended on the technical personnel, airframe maintenance, landing gear, engine overhaul and aircraft spares.

Aeronautical engineers, airline operators and pilots told Akelicious that this amount would have been halved if Nigeria has major Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, a leasing company, which could also supply spares and simulators for the training of pilots.

Akelicious gathered that the high cost of maintenance is responsible for the short lifespan of Nigerian carriers, which operate for average of 10 years.

The long time spent in taking aircraft overseas has forced airlines to incur losses, making it difficult for domestic airlines to survive.

Former Aero Contractors’ Maintenance Engineer, who is now the Chief Executive Officer of Seven Star Global, a major maintenance facility that just berthed in Nigeria, Mr. Isaac Balami, told Akelicious that airframe maintenance alone costs Nigeria $1 billion annually at the average of $1 million per aircraft.

“Airlines expend about $1 million on the maintenance of airframe alone and not to talk about the maintenance of landing gear and engine, which have different maintenance programme. These amounts are spent by Nigerian airlines, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Air Force, the Nigeria Police, the Presidential Fleet and others that operate fixed wing aircraft. Maintenance cost is in terms of hardware and software,” Balami said.

He explained that huge cost of conducting checks on aircraft overseas does not jeopardise the safety of the Nigerian fleet because concerning commercial airliners, the regulatory authority, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is monitoring all the airlines, but the huge cost has ensured that no Nigerian airline has existed for over 10 years, noting that Aero Contractors, which was established in 1959 started having problems 10 years after it went into scheduled commercial operation.

“The high cost of maintenance may not have any effect on aircraft safety but it is one of the reasons why Nigerian airlines cannot fly for more than 10 years. You can recall that Arik and Aero started having problems after they were 10 years. Aero was established in 1959 but went into commercial operations and 10 years after, it started having problems. This is difficult because after expending 40 per cent of your resources on fuel and you spend 30 per cent of your resources on maintenance, it becomes very difficult for you to survive,” he said.

He said that one major reason Nigerian airlines go under is because of the delay in ferrying the aircraft overseas, noting that every day a Boeing B737 is left on ground, the airline loses $100,000.

Boeing B737 is major aircraft type used by most Nigerian airlines.

“If you don’t fly a Boeing B737 a day you lose $100,000 and because you don’t have maintenance facility locally, you have to park the aircraft for about three weeks. That alone can kill an airline. That is why there is urgent need for Nigeria to have a maintenance facility and our MRO, Seven Start Global Hangar obtained licence from NCAA last August and we would start conducting checks soon; that will save Nigerian airlines and others huge amount of money spent overseas on maintenance,” Balami said.

The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, told Akelicious that he spends about $2.5 million on heavy checks on one aircraft.

Also, the Account Manager of Dana Air, Obi Mbanuzuo, said the airline spends about $1.2 million on conducting C-check on each of its aircraft.

Mbanuzuo also said Nigeria loses hugely conducting maintenance checks overseas.
“For heavy check, which is done between 15 to 18 months, each time we fly that aircraft abroad, just the flight alone cost us close to $80,000. Your crew flies the airplanes; so that crew is out for three or four days. The cost of each C-check is about $1.2 million and then we fly it back here.
“If there were maintenance facility here, we won’t go through this. For instance, if the Uyo maintenance facility that is being constructed were available; we will just fly the aircraft from Lagos to Uyo and park the aircraft there. Even if initially it is run by expatriates and foreigners, after a short period of time, locals will get the expertise to do the work and the cost of flying the aircraft out is reduced,” he said.

He also explained that main input cost of a C-check is man hour cost, which is about $70 to $100 per hour, noting that the cost would drastically reduce if the maintenance is conducted locally.

“So, having a repair facility in Nigeria will save millions of dollars annually to all the airlines. In addition, pilots go for simulator training every six months. All the airlines in Nigeria send all their pilots for simulator training every six months. Imagine what we will be saving if we had simulators locally,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Aero Contractors, Captain Ado Sanusi, said that maintaining aircraft locally would save Nigerian airlines at least 35 per cent of the cost of maintaining the aircraft overseas and save Nigeria so much foreign exchange.

A human rights activist has revealed his displeasure over a case of a 74-year-old who raped a teenage girl in Warri area of Delta state. 

It was reported that the septuagenarian identified as John Obi had carnal knowledge of the 14-year-old girl and infected her with sexually transmitted disease. 

The activist, Israel Joe took to Facebook to lament as the case is being stalled because the girl's parents want out of court settlement with the suspect. 

The suspect is currently in police custody and the victim is being treated.

Attempting to detain the parents for conspiracy also met a deadlock. I can't be calm buy to thank the police for their roles and all efforts made. John Obi is presently at detention right now and treatment has commenced for the little girl.

THE COMMAND'S RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS

1. ARREST OF A GANG OF ARMED ROBBERS AND RECOVERY OF FIREARMS: The Benue State Police Command  wishes to report that, a gang of armed robbers including a female, terrorising motorist/commuters along Vandeikya-Adikpo road were on 14/11/2018 arrested by men of Operation Zenda at about 1100hrs following a tip off.

   The arrested gang members include:
i. Mnguember Apuu F 22yrs (Armourer)
ii. Anger Kunav M 20yrs
iii. Iorungwa Hywakaa M 22yrs
iv. Fanen Yev M 25yrs and
v. Igbadoo Sule 'M' 24yrs (Gang Leader)

Exhibits recovered from them include
i. Two Locally Fabricated Guns
ii. One expended Cartridge
iii. Three (3) 9mm live ammunition
iv. Five (5) Cutlasses
v.  One small Axe
vi. Two (2) polythene bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp
vii. Three (3) black jackets and assorted charms being used for their operations.

Other items suspected to have been robbed from innocent citizens include:
i. New assorted cloths
ii. Eight ( Handsets
iii. One laptop
iv. One Motorcycle

The suspects confessed to be the ones robbing people on that axis as the lady among them usually keeps their arms after every operation.

2.  RECOVERY OF AMMUNITION: On 15/21/2018 at about 0945hrs, Men of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) while on stop and search at Sati Agirigi Village Katsina Ala-Takum road sighted and suspected two persons on a Bajaj Motorcycle approaching them. The suspects quickly turn in an attempt to escape but were given a chase. They dropped their handbag containing Fifty Five (55) ammunition of various calibres and some dangerous charms. Effort to arrest the fleeing suspects in progress.

3. ARRESTS OF SIX (6)  ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS BELONGING TO A GANG OF NINE (9) AND RECOVERY OF FIREARM: On 19/11/2018 at about 1530hrs, men of the Operation Zenda based on a tip off arrested some armed men numbering Six (6) namely:

i. Akighir Tyolumun 18yrs (Gang leader)
ii. Iorlumun Kyanya 18yrs
iii. Chia Joshua 18yrs
iv. Tevershima Terhemba 25yrs
v. Peter Terlumun 20yrs and
vi. Tarkighir Emmanuel 18yrs all of various addresses at Ugbema in Buruku LGA.

Items recovered include from include;
i. One (1) single barrel Gun
ii. Six (6) Army camouflage uniform with  three (3) caps
iii. Eight ( Hand Sets
iv. A pair of shoes
v. One Phone charger
vi. A torchlight and
vii. A small pink coloured bag.

The suspects confessed to a gang of nine (9) terrorising unsuspecting members of the Public along Gboko-Ugbema-Katsina Ala axis and dispossessing them of their valuables.
Effort is on to arrest remaining members of the gang.

4. The Commissioner of Police E. Ene Okon restated the Command's commitment to rid the state of all forms of criminality and appreciated the good people of the State for their cooperation in the fight against crime.

Seven student of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) lost their lives, yesterday, in an accident in Damaturu, Yobe State.

The students who were on their way to Gombe from Maiduguri, Borno State, due to the ongoing ASUU strike, when the accident occurred.

About 11 others were injured.

A woman is in a dilemma after being a victim of domestic violence and also accused by her husband of having an extra-marital affair . 

It was gathered that the man who was monitoring his wife's phone to know those who call her, was angry after calling one of the numbers from her phone in the midnight and heard a male voice. 

According to Emeka Ugwuonye, the husband after hearing the male voice, beat his wife and cut her hair with a scissors despite pleas from the woman that the said man is just a friend and nothing more. 

The husband allegedly dragged the wife to the man's hotel by 1 a.m and purportedly forced the friend to take her as he accused both of them of dating.

A man found that his wife from his second marriage (after divorcing the first wife) made a phone call to a number he was not familiar with. So, he was monitoring his wife's phone to know whether she was calling men or whether men were calling her. So, there was no trust in the marriage.

The man found a number he was not familiar with. He called that number and a man answered. It was midnight when he called. The other man dropped the phone after hearing it was a male voice. The husband got very upset with his wife because he called a number on her phone and the person dropped the phone. He began to beat his wife. He tool scissors and cut her hair. The woman tried to explain that it was an old friend that called him. He still beat her up. Then her into the car and took her to the hotel where the wife told him the man was staying.

He took her to that hotel by 1am. He insisted the wife must call the man down. The man came down to the reception and tried to explain that he had nothing to do with the woman, that her number was given to him by someone and he called her in the day and in the conversation the had over the phone, he mentioned to her that he was from out of town and was staying at that hotel. The husband refused to back down. He insisted that the other man must take his wife that night. He left his wife and that hotel and drove off. The woman had to borrow a cloth from the receptionist of the hotel and took a keke home.

Not only that, the husband went on social media today and announced to the whole world that he caught his wife red-handed with another man. (He did not explain what red-handed meant, but he left everybody to think that he caught his wife in bed with another man.

Ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan has insinuated that a vast conspiracy by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was partly responsible for his loss in 2015, PoliticsNGR has learned.

Jonathan, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP  lost to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC on March 31st 2015, marking the first time an opposition party wins an election in Nigeria.

In his book, 'My Transition Hours' launched in Abuja on Tuesday, Jonathan wrote;

"For some inexplicable reason, the INEC had been able to achieve near 100% distribution of Permanent Voter Cards in the North, including the North East, which was under siege with Boko Haram insurgency but failed to record a similar level of distribution in the South which was relatively more peaceful,”.

Social media was filled with all manner of stories, pictures and videos. I had settled in my mind that I was not going to be the sitting president pointing out these infractions and accusing the opposition and the very INEC I helped to strengthen.

The world saw my ordeal at the polling unit in my community in Bayelsa State, where the card reader refused my PVC even after we tried repeatedly during accreditation.

And it was the same with my wife and my mother. It was a moment that exposed the shortcomings of INEC".

Mr Jonathan said even though he conceded defeat because of personal principles he had long held, he was even more conscious of past predictions of the United States intelligence that Nigeria would break apart.

“I knew what was coming the day before I called General Muhammadu Buhari. I had reports on the polls around the country. It was clear the results were not going to favour me. There were series of problems with card readers, resulting from widespread technical hitches leading to the non-uniform application throughout the country.

However, I was heading towards peace. Stopping the election on voting day would have been like detonating an atomic bomb,” he said.

Mr Jonathan said shortly after he finished voting on March 28, he departed Bayelsa for Abuja to monitor the rest of the exercise from March 29 until he made concession call on March 31.

“The country was tensed. I had to do something. I could no longer wait for the collation of final results. The pressure on the country was palpable. In Lagos, people were ready to burst loose on the streets and in the North, the stage was set for envisaged violence. One of my party’s agents at the INEC National Collation Centre in Abuja, Elder Godsday Orubebe eventually got into a heated argument with the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega.

That further raised the tension in the country. Everyone was expecting the worse. I knew it was time to douse the tension,”.

Quote:“Boko Haram kills 44 soldiers, nine farmers in fresh attacks”

Boko Haram has killed 44 soldiers and nine farmers in three days of attacks on some villages in Borno State, AFP has reported.

According to the report, which quoted security sources, the Islamic State West Africa Province, a Boko Haram splinter group, killed at least 44 soldiers in attacks on three military bases at the weekend.

It stated that out of the 44 soldiers, no fewer than 43 were killed on Sunday in Metele, a remote village near the Nigerian border with Niger, according to a military officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The military officer stated, “Our troops were completely routed and the terrorists captured the base after heavy fighting,” adding that the base commander and three officers were among the dead.

A pro-government militiaman said the sect members arrived in about 20 trucks, and army air support did not arrive until after they had “invaded the base and looted the weapons”.

The same day, the terrorists also carried out a pre-dawn attack on a base in the town of Gajiram, some 80km north of the Borno State capital, Maiduguri. Fighting lasted several hours, local residents told AFP.

The report stated that a soldier was killed in an attack on Saturday on a base in Mainok, also in Borno State, the cradle of the Boko Haram movement, security sources said.

AFP reported that SWAP accepted responsibility for the attacks in Metele and Mainok, claiming to have killed at least 42 soldiers in addition to carting four tanks and other vehicles away, according to the SITE Intelligence monitoring group.

It also reported that on Monday, there were attacks on villages by the sect. The attacks were carried out to pillage food and abduct civilians used as fighters or forced to marry the terrorists.

Residents told AFP on Tuesday that armed with guns and machetes, the hoodlums killed nine farmers and abducted 12 others in the Mammanti village in Borno State.

A farmer, Usman Kaka, who escaped being killed, told AFP that the gangsters came on bicycles.

He said, “They just opened fire on us and continued to fire as we fled.”

According to the report, the village chief, Muhammad Mammanti, said the assailants hacked “three people who resisted being abducted”.


Also on Monday, seven women were abducted by Boko Haram while working in fields near the city of Bama, according to militiamen fighting alongside soldiers.

AFP stated that despite the government’s insistence that Boko Haram was near defeat, the group had recently carried out major attacks on military and civilian targets.

However, the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, said the military had issues with organisations focusing on the activities of the sect.


The Director, Defence Information, Brig Gen John Agim, said on Tuesday, “We have been having some issues with some organisations which write things to glorify the activities of the Boko Haram terrorists. I have not seen the reports and I cannot respond without reading them.”

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Texas Chukwu, could not be reached for comments as his line rang out.


The Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, last week sent a statement to troops in the North-East, addressing issues of alleged insufficient resources and ammunition.

A Nigerian man Ghiz Enoch who's based in Aba Abia state took to his Facebook page to narrate his ordeal with the Nigerian police. In his post, he narrated how he was arrested and tortured over false claims.

Four Nigerian nationals were arrested in Nallasopara on Monday with 10 grams of cocaine worth Rs 1.8 lakh, police said. The Crime Branch of the Palghar Police intercepted the car in which two of the accused, Eric Emiza (32) and Wasim Mohammad alias Robert were travelling in at Achole village and found the drugs.

Sub-inspector Hitendra Vichare said the accused led the police team to the other two men from whom they had bought the cocaine. They have been identified as D K Christian (38) and Oliver Christopher (40).

The police said that all the four men are drug peddlers who have been living in Nallasopara for several years. The police is looking through their criminal records to find out if they have any cases registered against them in the past. The four men have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

A seven-year-old boy named Monday Ajeh, is currently writhing in pain in a hospital in Nasarawa state after suspected cultisits abducted him and plucked out his eyeballs in Agaza village in Keana Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the suspected cultists stormed the village in the night and abducted the little boy last Thursday, November 15th. His father, 47 year old Agadi Ajeh, said himself and his family members were sleeping when they heard the little boy screaming for help as he was been whisked away. They all stormed out and began searching for him. Hours later, they found him two kilometers away from their home, in the pool of his own blood with his eyes plucked out.

The spokesperson of the state Police Command, ASP Samaila Usman, confirmed the incident and said the victim had previously informed his parents that some persons had threatened to pluck out his eyes but that they dismissed the threat and did not report the matter to the police.

Usman said the police is currently on the trail of the suspected cultists.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has blamed former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama, and Borno State governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, for frustrating the rescue of Chibok schoolgirls, which contributed to his defeat in the 2015 presidential election.


Jonathan, who stated this in his book, ‘My Transition Hours’, which was launched yesterday in Abuja, said Obama, for some strange reasons, tactically penciled Nigeria and his administration down to fail.

The book launch was part of events to celebrate Jonathan’s 61st birth anniversary.


In the book, the former president gives his own account of the intrigues that heralded and trailed the 2015 presidential election.

The event, which was attended by former heads of state, Gen Yakubu Gowon (rtd) and Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and foreign serving and past leaders also witnessed the unveiling of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation.

President Muhammadu Buhari was represented at the event by the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha. Also represented were former military president, Gen Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) and Gen T.Y. Danjuma (rtd), as well as the family of the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Akelicious reports that in the book, Jonathan said ex-US President Obama, amongst other maneuvres, refused to provide real military backing, including selling military hardware to Nigeria’s Armed Forces to fight Boko Haram as well as rescue the Chibok girls.


The former president, who recounted how an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in 2014 exposed members of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement as being APC members, said the protesters carried out their campaigns against his government in anticipation of a reward.


Jonathan wondered why those he tagged “hash taggers and crucify campaigners” against his administration did not ask the Borno State governor why he insisted that the girls must remain in the danger zone.


He said, “The governor of the state (a member of the opposition party) rather than join the federal government in the efforts to rescue the girls opted to stage a cross-continent roadshow in Europe and America, addressing foreign media when the issue that was burning was in his home state and the attention of the world was locked on Nigeria.

“It is instructive that apart from a few habitual agitators and regular activists, some of the leaders of the #bringbackourgirls movement were mostly key members of the opposition who had a view to a future reward. On October 16, 2014, Chief Audu of the APC, who later became a minister, had said on camera at an APC rally at the Eagle Square Abuja, I want to thank members of the #bringbackourgirls group which is being led by members of our party.’”


Fingering Obama for the plot against his administration by some western powers, he said, “We were presented as the problem of Nigeria. For beyond the Chibok issue, they made it a point that they were only interested in regime change. If the Jonathan administration goes and the opposition comes, the security challenges posed by Boko Haram will vanish, the Chibok girls will be rescued and the country will be better off, it was echoed. Of course, it was a deliberate attempt to distort history and build faulty premises to worsen Nigeria’s future.”

On Obama’s role he said, “The tactical attacks by the Obama administration were many. They refused to provide any real military backing for equipment to aid the rescue of the Chibok girls, citing the Leahy Law which they claimed prevented them from supporting any military that was engaged in human rights abuses, but this law did not stop them from assisting the armed forces of Nigeria’s neighbours which had been accused of serious human rights violations.

“Even when the state of Israel expressed the willingness to sell attack helicopters to Nigeria, the gesture was frustrated by the Obama administration that kept waving the same Leahy Law like a banner. I believe one day some of the security experts and actors that were involved in the search and rescue will tell the world the truth about the kidnapping of the Chibok schoolgirls.”

He stated that his administration and a team of international partners and their governments devoted considerable amount of resources in the search and rescue of the girls.


However, in his reaction to the content of the book alleging that the Chibok girls matter was an act of grand conspiracy, Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, said he had not read the book and that he would get a copy of the book last night before deciding whether to respond or not.


“Governor Kashim Shettima has not read the book. I am yet to also read it, but the governor will pick the book this night and after reading it, he will determine whether to react or not,” the special assistant to the governor on communication and strategy, Mallam Isa Gusau, who spoke on his behalf noted.

Earlier, Jonathan and the former first lady, Dame Patient Jonathan, walked into the venue at about 11:42 to the tumultuous applause of a large crowd of guests.

Speaking during the book presentation yesterday, former President Jonathan expressed concern at the increased incidences of vote buying in the country ahead of the 2019 general elections.


He said that vote buying, which was gradually replacing other forms of electoral malpractices, had become scandalous and put the country in bad light.


He pointed out that voter inducement through engraving of pictures of candidates and political party logos on gift items during elections was another rampant strategy for vote buying.


He advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to borrow a leaf from other African countries and create polling centres in public places such as schools where classrooms were used for voting to make it difficult for vote buyers.

He explained that the book he launched was essentially an account of happenings during the 2015 general election and the events that caused him to place the concession phone call to President Muhammadu Buhari, which doused tension and ensured the peaceful transition from the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Party (APC).

In his own speech, President Muhammadu Buhari described Jonathan as a leader of the future, saying that he will rise again.

The president who was represented by the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, noted that history will judge Jonathan as a patriotic leader.


The president also commended Jonathan’s statesmanship and sportsmanship, noting that without any pressure, he willingly conceded defeat in the 2015 presidential election even when the collation of results was still ongoing.

He hailed Jonathan’s singular act of placing the country above himself and thanked him for “being a true democrat”.


“That kind of decision can only be taken with a depth of integrity of a man’s heart and the conviction of his soul. And I want to congratulate you for that decision you took in 2015,” Buhari said.


“I therefore recommend this book for all and sundry. I thank you today for all Nigerians, for us and for generations yet unborn. Your excellency, please accept my personal, deep appreciation for what you have done for this country. You are a leader of the past, you are a leader of the now. You are a leader of the future. You will rise again.

“Your Excellency, your singular act of placing a call to me doused and calmed frayed nerves all over the country and I sincerely thank you for being a true democrat and a patriotic Nigerian.”

President Buhari recalled that in the run-up to the election, he and Jonathan were parties to a common purpose, to ensure that the 2015 general elections were violence-free and credible.


“The accomplishment of that objective has placed Nigeria as a leader in the development of democracy in Africa. To underscore his desire for peace and non-violence, Jonathan kept reiterating that no Nigerian blood should be shed for his ambition. With this book being launched today, Nigerians, historians and scholars now have a first-hand account and an insight into what transpired during the transition hours,” he said.

He further urged all Nigerians to imbibe the spirit that guided the 2015 elections so that the 2019 polls would be fair and credible.

“In approximate, 88 days from today Nigerians will be exercising their civic duty of electing new leaders in another general election. I call on all political leaders to see elections as a contest based on principles, programmes and aspirations that will uplift the nation. Elections should never become a declaration of war; rather it should cement our brotherliness and nationhood.

“We must therefore eschew bitterness, violence, hate speeches, falsehood and bigotry. Once again, I thank Dr. Jonathan for documenting his experience and for providing guide for current and future leaders to follow.

On his part, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was chairman of the occasion, hailed Jonathan for his statesmanship disposition, urging him to remain committed to his residual responsibility of continuous service to his immediate community, Nigeria, Africa and beyond.


Obasanjo said there is no substitute to democracy as it unifies the people, even as he noted that Nigeria has the responsibility to unify West Africa, Africa and the black race across the world.

On his part, former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, also thanked Jonathan for conceding defeat in 2015 to save Nigeria from impending war and consolidating democracy, not only in the country but the entire African continent.

He also applauded Jonathan for his role in fostering unity, peace, progress and strengthening democratic rule in Africa, saying “Goodluck Jonathan is a good man and when the history of democracy in Africa is written, his name will be etched in gold”.


Also, former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, said Nigeria is not at war today because of Jonathan’s decision to concede defeat during the 2015 general election.

“We cannot thank you enough for the peace we are having in the country today; for the peaceful transition we had when you freely and voluntarily conceded defeat. By your decision, you have shown that you love your country more than you love power,” he said.

For former president of Ghana, John Mahama, ex-President Jonathan is more of an academic who found himself in politics.

“I was not surprised when Jonathan conceded defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015”, he said.

Mahama said Jonathan approached leadership in a relaxed manner and that was why he left a good legacy worthy of emulation by all leaders in Africa.


For his part, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said Nigeria was fortunate to have had a selfless leader like the former president.

He said Jonathan’s decision to concede defeat in 2015 had helped to consolidate democracy, not only in Nigeria but on the African continent.

Atiku added that Nigerians and Africans would continue to remain grateful to Jonathan for upholding national interest at the expense of his personal interest.

Also speaking, Senate President Bukola Saraki saluted Jonathan for his statesmanship, sportsmanship and uncommon courage of conceding defeat to Buhari in 2015 when collation was still on.

Saraki said that the act of accepting defeat by Jonathan helped to stabilise the already charged political atmosphere during the elections.

Recalling how Jonathan used to vow that his ambition was not worth the blood of any Nigerian, he called on political leaders to toe the same path and should not look at elections as declaration of war as the 2019 polls approached.

Barely minutes into the book review by former Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN), Justice Alfa Belgore, the chairman of the event, former President Olusegun Obasanjo arrived at the venue, causing much stir.

And about five minutes later, the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole alongside the former Akwa Ibom governor, Sen Goodswill Akpabio entered the venue.

The arrival of the APC chieftains ignited a political tussle at the event which hitherto had the colouration of a PDP affair. Oshiomhole and Akpabio, took turns to shake hands with dignitaries at the event including those of Senate President Bukola Saraki, whom they recently exchange brickbats with.

Other dignitaries at the event include the former chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur; Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe; former SGF, Yayale Ahmed; former Senate President David Mark, and Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

Others are chairman of Leadership Group, Sam Nda-Isaiah; governors of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal; Delta, Ifeayi Okowa; Taraba, Arch. Darius Ishiaku; Cross River, Professor Ben Ayade; Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekeweremadu; Sen Ahmed Makarfi; former Niger State governor, Babangida Aliyu, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ambassador, Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo and president of African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina.

Many members of the diplomatic corps, serving and former Senators, former governors and former ministers were present.

Young Ghanaian Entertains Guests With Live Drawing Of Jonathan

A young Ghanaian, Bright Kpoha, artistically known as Realpen pencil, yesterday entertained guests at Transcrorp Hilton, Abuja, where he did live drawing of the image of Goodluck Jonathan from a billboard, as the former president launched his book, “My Transition Hour”.

Kpoha was being watched in an open space transforming Jonathan’s image into paper from the bill board placed in front of the Congress Hall, venue of the book launch.

He was able to attract attention of some of the people going into the hall as well as those denied entrance for not having formal invitation letter to the book launch.

People gathered to watch Kpoha dramatise his drawing process, with his display of dancing, jumping and other skills, as he drew Jonathan on Paper with pencils.

Kpoha said he was motivated into drawing the former president as part of his contribution to the book launch.

“I just want to present this sketch and present it to former President Jonathan as a way of my contribution to the launching of his book “My Transition Hours”, he noted.

He said that he had been in sketch drawing for the past 13 years and it took him an average of 50 minutes to transform an image on paper.

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has stated that Nigeria's economy slipped into recession after he left office because of the "Malicious Propaganda" deployed by the All Progressives Congress, APC. he claims that it tore the country's economy to 'Shreds'.

Jonathan wrote this is his newly launched book 'My Transition Hours'. PoliticsNGR gathered that Jonathan also wrote that the narrative of inheriting an empty treasury was false.

“Recall that the opposition and their sympathisers and campaigners, both local and international, with their malicious propaganda, tore our economy to shreds, threatened our stability and existence as a nation and intimidated our citizens, all in the bid to take over power.

Rather than forge a coalition and build on the momentum we had gathered when they eventually took office, they went on a persecution spree and vengeance mission. That the country slipped into recession soon after we left office was a self-inflicted injury caused by misplaced priorities. The narrative of inheriting empty treasury is a blatant lie.

Also, the excuse of the collapse of world crude prices does not hold water. This is because the Fourth Republic took off in 1999 with crude oil selling for less than $20 per barrel and a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth at 0.58 per cent, according to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) figures. Yet, the economy maintained a steady growth from that year, peaking at 15.33 per cent in 2002 when the average crude oil price was about $25.

It is also instructive that the oil and gas sector constitute about 11 per cent of our GDP. There had to be a wider causative factor than just the fall in world crude prices.

“It also amounts to standing facts on their heads to continuously claim that recession was caused by so-called mindless looting. The truth is that the opposition, in a bid to undo our government, became its own undoing when it got to power, because of the burden of justifying deliberate misrepresentations.

There is wisdom in the saying that if you win a prize and get the crown, don’t go around destroying the person who previously held that prize; it will lose its value.

Even after winning the election and forming the government at the centre, the blame game continued. When two brothers fight to death, it is the neighbour that inherits their father’s wealth. And we have seen neighbouring nations like the Republic of Benin and Ghana reaping from the capital flight out of Nigeria.”

He said with the calibre of people he had in his government, no one could say they were clueless.

“Just consider that my minister of state for health, Dr Muhammed Ali Pate, is now a professor at America’s Duke University, as well as a Senior Adviser to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation based in Washington DC. My minister of Agriculture, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, is now the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

My Co-ordinating minister, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, is the chairperson of the Board of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) and the African Risk Capacity (ARC). She also sits on the board of Twitter and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, just as she is a Senior Adviser at Lazard and a Director at Standard Chartered Plc in the United Kingdom, amongst others.

My minister of communication technology, Dr. Omobola Johnson, is currently chairperson of custodian and Allied Insurance Limited as well as the Global Alliance for Affordable Internet. And it is not just members of my cabinet. Others who served with me in different capacities are also soaring on the world stage.

A good example is Ms. Arunma Oteh, who I appointed the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Under her steady and skillful direction, Nigeria’s equity market grew in metric proportions, and by the time I left office in 2015, the market had tripled in size to $150 billion in value. Two months after I left office, Ms. Oteh was appointed a Vice-President and Treasurer at the World Bank.

With such personalities on my cabinet, no one can factually say we were ‘clueless’ or inept. The evidence of performance is simply overwhelming. We gave Nigeria an impressive and steady GDP growth rate at 6.7 per cent per annum.

We were officially cited as the third fastest growing economy in the world by CNN Money in 2014. We eradicated polio and guinea worm and became the first nation in the world to defeat the Ebola virus, such that the then richest man in the world, Bill Gates celebrated us for our prowess in the health sector. We reduced our food import bill by 36 per cent.”

Shehu Sani, the Senator representing Kaduna Central has replied critics of President Muhammadu Buhari for describing Goodluck Jonathan as a true democrat.

President Buhari on Tuesday, hailed his predecessor, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, for conceding defeat following the 2015 general elections, describing him as a true democrat.

Women farmers under the umbrella of Small-Scale Women Farmers Organisation in Nigeria (SWOFON) have called for restoration of scrapped Growth Enhancement Scheme (GES) scheme.

They made the call at the end of a two-day annual national farmers forum for smallholder women farmers organised by Actionaid Nigeria, an NGO.

In separate comments at the event, the women said they lacked access to improved seeds and other farm inputs, which the GES was meant to provide.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the scheme was initiated by the immediate-past Minister of Agriculture, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, for Nigerian farmers.

GES was a farm support initiative through which registered farmers had access to quality seeds, fertilisers and agro-chemicals at 50 per cent subsidised price.

However, the scheme was bedevilled by many challenges, including supply of substandard inputs to farmers.

This prompted the current administration to announce its replacement with the Agricultural Inputs and Mechanisation scheme (AIMS).

Mrs Ngizan Chahul from Benue said since the GES was scrapped, it had been difficult for her and other fellow woman farmers to access quality inputs.

She appealed to the Federal Government to come to their aid by either restoring GES or ensuring effective implementation of AIMS to boost productivity.

She equally urged government to closely monitor its intervention programmes to ensure that they were not hijacked by “political farmers”.

Mrs Suzan Godwin from Nasarawa State said that women farmers ought to be involved in the policy formulation process to protect their interests.

Another participant from Benue, Mrs Bridget Adejo, appealed to the Federal Government to make the location of silos it recently established known to them.

This, she said, would enable smallholder farmers to locate and take advantage of the storage facilities to avoid post-harvest losses.

Another farmer, Mrs Bola Adebayo from Osun, urged government to buy insurance for farmers who lost their crops to farmers/herders clash and to also address the situation.

However, Mrs Aisha Abubakar of the FCT Agriculture Development Project, urged the women not to wait for government to do everything for them.

Abubakar noted that they could engage the services of extension workers under the Agricultural Development Programmes (ADPs) in their respective states.

Mrs Constance Okeke, the SWOFON Board Chairperson, thanked Actionaid Nigeria for providing the platform and support to the association since inception.

The forum attracted women farmers from the 36 states of the federation to deliberate on their challenges and to seek solutions.

Laura Lyons, a private investigator who specialises in tracking down online romance fraudsters, otherwise known as "catfish" has unmasked a Nigerian fraudster.





According to BBC, Laura Lyons posed as Kathryn Hunter - a wealthy divorcee looking for love. According to her: “It's not long before the catfish begin to bite. Four men approach me online and they all claim to be US soldiers. .



One of the soldiers, who calls himself Paul Richard, comes on strong. The number he rings from has a Nigerian dialling code. After a brief silence, a man with a thick African accent comes on the line. .



He doesn't sound like the American soldier whose picture he is using. But Paul explains away his accent by saying he has a cold. An online reverse image search leads me to the Instagram page of the real owner of the pictures the catfish was using.



For the next few weeks, my producer continues to speak to Richard on the phone as I listen in. Then our catfish makes a mistake. Richard accidentally leaves a name tag - Dan Coolman - on one of his WhatsApp pictures. .



We search through all the Dan Coolmans in Nigeria and we find one who runs a barbershop in Ibadan. He's using the same number that our catfish has been calling us from.



Coolman is another false name, but we discover the phone is registered to Daniel Joseph Okechkwu. We have finally uncovered the real identity of our catfish. We head for Ibadan, but by the time we get there he's gone.



The doors to the barber shop are locked and locals say it's been closed for weeks. We decide to call him and tell him who we really are. He confesses and claims it's the first romance scam he's ever pulled and that he has been forced to do it because of the closure of his barber shop.



He sounds sincere and he apologises for the way he has treated us. He says he wants to stop being a romance fraudster. But he needs us to give him money, so that he can afford to stop tricking other people out of their cash. It's a classic catfish twist. They never give up on the scam even when they have been rumbled.“

A former president of Nigerian Bar Association, Dr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is the worst in the history of Nigeria.

Agbakoba, who is one of the leaders of the National Intervention Movement, on Tuesday described the almost four years under Buhari as locust years, saying the Coalition of United Political Parties was determined to save the country by bringing Buhari’s reign to an end.

He described Buhari’s re-election mantra, “Next Level,” as a failed document and one lacking in “conceptual overhang.”

Agbakoba, who rated the campaign document of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, higher than Buhari’s, said were the presidential election to hold today, Atiku would win, while Buhari would come “distant second.”

He, however, expressed the fear that Buhari, if defeated, might not be willing to relinquish power, decrying the presence of the service chiefs at the launch of Buhari’s re-election campaign on Sunday.

The lawyer spoke with journalists in his Ikoyi, Lagos office on Tuesday morning.

He said, “We clearly understand that to win the forthcoming elections, we require a united opposition. So, all the parties are simply presenting their presidential candidates but by January, the CUPP will formalise its consensus candidate.

“It may well be Atiku or it may not but the person who will be chosen must be one who has the heavy-lifting, who can get the job done.

“Personally, I’m pro-Atiku because I think he has the heavy-lifting but I will not preempt anything.”

He added, “We are all united in the mantra and the strong song around our campaign, that is, ‘Anybody but Buhari.’

“We are making sure the four locust years from 2015 to 2019 will never repeat themselves in Nigeria. This has been the worst government in Nigeria’s history.

“Unemployment rate at 20 million, youth unemployment is so high, inflation at about 18 per cent, borrowing requirement or interest rate at about 22 per cent; nothing is working. So, we need to do something to reclaim it.”

Agbakoba said part of the strategies of the CUPP was to engage with the people at the grass roots and to ensure that people’s votes count in 2019.

He said, “We want to make sure the votes count. Clearly, the signal and the obvious determination on the part of this government is to potentially rig the election and or refuse to leave if beaten and we are staring a potential legitimacy crisis next year because President Buhari isn’t (former) President Jonathan.”

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18).

As a child of God, His glory is in your life, and that glory is continually on the increase, as you meditate on, and live the Word. It’s one of the reasons we emphasise going to church. Every time you’re in church or in your group fellowship meetings, and you listen to the preaching and teaching of the Word of God, the glory on your life increases. As you leave the meeting, you leave with a greater glory than you came with.

The same happens when you study and meditate on the Word in your privacy; God’s glory in you increases. Of course, the glory of God in your spirit may not be obvious to the senses, but its impact and effects are unmistakable. The glory in us is so strong and powerful; howbeit, it’s not the same for everybody. Some Christians have more glory than others; it’s about how much of the Word of God is working in your spirit! It’s about yielding to, and living, the Word.

Our opening verse says, “…we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” This is what the Word does in our lives: as we behold the Word, we’re metamorphosed; our glory increases. The more we meditate on the Word, the more glorious we become.
Even now, you’re more glorious than you were moments ago, because of your fellowship with the Word through this devotional. As you step out to your job, business, and your environment today, it’s with increased glory. Influence your world with this glory. Keep increasing the glory in you through fellowship, studying and meditating on the Word.

Internet users have hailed a man who walked in on his wife canoodling with another man in bed and handled it in a civilised manner. 

According to trending reports, the husband caught his wife with her younger lover while romancing each other at her boarding house in Solwezi, the capital of the North-Western Province of Zambia. 

The wife is said to be a student at one of the local learning institutions in Solwezi.

While the heartbroken man was confronting her boyfriend who was explaining himself, his wife just lay there on the bed as if the matter didn't concern her as can be seen in the video below.

Quote:A 28-year old, Fidelis Michael, was said to have committed a sacrilege after he indicated interest to marry the daughter of a top class monarch and kissed her in public to the detest of the royal tradition in Ejigbo area of Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Michael was caught and charged before a court for assault and remanded in prison custody by pecking the princess in the public.

The alleged assault took place inside Ejigbo Market where the Oba’s daughter, Princess Dolapo, went to buy undisclosed items and met Michael.

Our correspondent was unable to establish if Michael and the princess were love birds but it was certain that they have met probably in the market before the incident happened.

It was gathered that when the Oba heard about what happened, he directed his aides to apprehend the culprit and hand him over to the police at Ejigbo Division for prosecution.

Thus, Michael was arraigned before the Ejigbo Magistrates court for the alleged offence.
According to police, the defendant reportedly pecked Princess Dolapo’s mouth without her consent inside Ejigbo Market.
He pleaded not guilty.

Friday Akinlaja, a 26-year-old Prophetess' son, has been remanded at the Olokuta Medium Prison for raping 9-year-old girl in Oda area of Akure, Ondo state capital.

The suspect said to be the son of a popular Prophetess of a Pentecostal Church in Akure, was arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command after the crime was reported by neighbours which subsequently culminated in his arraignment in court on Monday, for sexually abusing the minor.

Daily Post reported that the suspect who was dragged before Magistrate Olanipekun Mayomi, on a one-count charge of rape and defilement of the minor, blamed the devil for his crime. It was gathered that he gave the sum of ‘N110’ to the 9-year-old girl, after raping her.

Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, a medical practitioner  who first shared the story wrote;

“The man decided to take advantage of the little girl because of the poor status of her parents.

“The poor girl was yet to have her meal all day as 8 pm (on the day of the incident) and the man came visiting.

“The man came visiting when her mum had gone out to look for money to feed her children.

“He then decided that the girl should follow him so he could buy her some bread and Ankara, only to rape the poor girl and give her a pantry of N110.

“A sum which she couldn’t even make use of again because of the pains and anguish had taken over,” he said.

17-year-old actress, Tito Segun-Banjo , has been declared missing by her family.

“We want government to understand that they are part of the community and have been given a mission of carrying out the will of the people… Insecurity has reached a certain level that even when we bring experts in, they wonder what exactly they have come to do. They are given a certain problem to solve and when they arrive here, they meet another problem.

“We have had many instances of armed killer herdsmen who wreak havoc across communities in the country and, rather than show empathy to the victims, the Inspector General of Police goes there to say they were killed because they blocked the grazing routes for cattle.

“One way of stopping the bloodbath is to reconfigure the nation. States must be given maximum control over their resources. There are some who prefer to grow rice, there are others who prefer to grow religion and we know where religion has taken us, today.

“Some people will like to say it is not really religion that has gotten us to where we are. I agree with you, but, some people have manipulated religion to suit their purpose.

“Those insisting on restructuring do so because they know that there is something wrong with the state of Nigeria. Many times, Nigerians have come together to proffer solutions and the way forward for the country, but, after spending so much time and effort, nothing ever comes out of it. The recommendations are left to gather dust. How much longer shall we continue like this?

“Forgiveness is a virtue. Although I have the same temperament as my late friend, Tai Solarin, but, it is a national embarrassment that our president has refused to obey our laws. Citizens should not be the one to choose to obey laws.”

On his part, Nwodo said those campaigning against restructuring of Nigeria have painted an unfortunate and untrue picture.

He said: “The new model we propose for Nigeria recognises that revenue in the world, today, is promoted by two main sources namely, human capital development leveraging on technology to drive the critical sectors of the economy and agriculture. Nigeria beyond oil must contemplate the implementation of legislative independence to the federating units, sovereignty of mineral and oil resources to the federating units, a painstaking resolve to support all electoral processes and candidates that would bring about this change.”

Adebanjo said anyone who opposes restructuring is living in denial about the fragility of the country.

He said: “It is unfortunate that President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, do not understand each other as regards restructuring. I can understand the president’s predicament because education is necessary to comprehend what restructuring entails but, I do not know why the vice president, who is a professor of Law, does not know what it entails.

“How can the vice president say he wants devolution of powers, state police and the likes, yet, he says he does not understand what those who talk about restructuring want? If the man who is the president does not understand what restructuring is, because of his education deficiency, should the vice president not also know what it is?

“If you do not restructure, the country would break up. If you say that the unity of the country is non-negotiable, then, you do not have a choice than to restructure.”

But, Director General of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Yima Sen, who represented the convener, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, had a different view about restructuring.

He said: “As a group, NEF met several times with northern governors and northern traditional rulers over the issue of restructuring and discussions are still ongoing. But, one thing we have decided is that we are going to dialogue with our people and know what they want.

“Most often, the elite push an agenda because they think that is what those they are leading want and they usually do it out of pride and arrogance.

“We should be humble when pushing an agenda. We need to move from the level of sentiments to the scientific. It is important that, when such important issues are discussed, the elite should be humble enough to ask their people what they want and that is what we are doing.

“We are not going to decide for our people whether they want restructuring or not. We are going to ask them and listen to what they have to say.”

Chairman on the occasion, General Ike Nwachukwu, said even though the unity of the nation is sacrosanct and non-negotiable, the country cannot maximise its full potentials if it does not return to federating units.

“Although they were appointed by the government, they are responsible to the people of Nigeria.

To make INEC truly independent, there is the need to review the system of appointing its members.”

A young man has been arrested after stealing over N300,000 from his mother's bank account in Delta state.

According to reports, the suspect named Oke Precious popularly known as 'Young Money', allegedly cleared his mother's account to enjoy himself with his friends.

Prominent Nigerians have restated calls for restructuring the country with Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka insisting the move is unstoppable.

“A methodological way of stopping the bloodbath in the country is to reconfigure the nation. And nobody has the right, either through body language or any other means, to say no,” Soyinka said during the Handshake Across Nigeria summit organised by Nzuko Umunna/Aka Ikenga and Core Federalists in Lagos yesterday.

He noted: “States must be given maximum control over their resources. There are some who prefer to grow rice. There are others who prefer to grow religion and we know where religion has brought us today. If some people prefer to grow rice and others wants to grow Sharia, then both sides should be given the means to develop.”


Also at the event themed ‘Nigeria Beyond Oil’, were former Minister of External Affairs Ike Nwachukwu, President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo John Nnia Nwodo, Afenifere chieftain Ayo Adebanjo, and President Middle Belt Forum Pogu Bitrus.

In his welcome address, Nwachukwu dismissed the concern that some states would get unfair deals in a restructured Nigeria. “There is no state without the basic requirements for economic and human capital development. The fear therefore, that some states would be disadvantaged under this arrangement would be removed because the Federal Government would intervene directly or through loans to the federating units to realise their developmental projects.”

He explained that states would not be able to misappropriate such funds, as people would rise against any attempt to misapply the commonwealth. Consequently, unemployment, agitations from ethnic groups, insurgency, kidnappings, armed robbery and ritual killings would be reduced to the barest, he said.

He further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be truly independent as the 2019 general elections draw closer. According to him, though government set up the commission, it is responsible only to the people. To make INEC truly independent, he said, there is the need to review the way its members are appointed.

“In the United Kingdom, for instance, the Speaker’s Committee appoints the electoral officers drawn from the political parties. Currently, of the total 10 members, appointed and ex officio, there are four Conservatives, three Labour and one Scottish Nationalist (excluding the Speaker). The body reports to the parliament and not to the Prime Minister, thereby making them truly independent and representative.

“The chairman is not appointed by the Prime Minister but by the Speaker’s Committee, thereby insulating him or her from any direct influence by the Prime Minister and in our case, the president or anyone acting on behalf of the president. Nigeria should do the same.”


Nwodo, on his part, said it was disheartening to see the Federal Government assuming responsibilities such as education, health and agriculture, which states could effectively discharge. “The usual response to this observation is that states are not even now able to pay their workers. What is not acknowledged is that the resources that the Federal Government corners for itself, now, would have to be released to the states when they take on these duties,” he said.

He added: “Those campaigning against restructuring have painted an unfortunate and untrue picture that those of us in support are going to deny the northern states, who do not yet have any proven oil reserves, the ability to survive.

“This is unfortunate. The new model we propose for Nigeria will drastically reduce corruption, as the large federal parastatals, which gulp government revenue for little or no impact, dissolve and give way to small and viable organs in the new federating units.”

Adebanjo, in his goodwill message, condemned the stance of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on restructuring. “They are trying to distort what restructuring is. They don’t understand themselves. The president says one thing; the vice president says another. Unfortunately, I can understand that of the president; education is necessary to understand restructuring.

“But what disappoints me is the vice president who is a professor of law, trained with a very good background, yet he doesn’t understand. To show you how deceitful they are, how can the Osinbajo say he wants devolution of power, state police and yet he doesn’t understand restructuring? It is not a philosophy,” said Adebanjo.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo meanwhile restated optimism about the nation.

At a meeting with executive members of the Delta State Traditional Council yesterday, he described his optimism as “incurable.” He said although the country lacks perfection, it nevertheless “can be made to make progress and move at a pace that will be advantageous to all of us, no matter our tribe, position, gender and race.”

He said further: “We can have a country that is at peace with itself, where unity is enthroned; a country where everyone will be his brother’s keeper; where performance will be obvious in governance and running of the affairs of our people; a country where everyone will have a sense of belonging.”

Obasanjo also commissioned some projects executed by the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, has called on Muslims to imbibe righteousness, honestly, charity and peaceful coexistence as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad.

The speaker congratulated the Muslims on the commemoration of this year’s Eid-el-Maulud.

Dogara, in a statement on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, said the celebration of the birth of the Prophet was an opportunity for the adherents to renew faiths, rejuvenate their spirit and engender love in the society.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has said that the federal government is considering concessioning six hydro dams to private operators under the build, operate and transfer, BOT initiative.


He said the plan is part of government’s resolve to raising power generation and expanding its drive in the renewable energy space. Fashola, who made the disclosure in a keynote address at the 2018 pre-conference workshop of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) in Lagos, yesterday, said that the current component of grid power consists mainly of gas-fired power which is 85 per cent and hydropower 15 per cent and that there is the need to produce an energy mix that targets a 30 per cent component of renewable energy out of the gross energy produced by 2030.

He said: ‘‘let me be clear and unequivocal by saying upfront that our commitment as a nation and government to pursue renewable and low carbon energy at low cost is clear, firm and unshaking.’’


The minister said government recently approved an integrated energy mix targets under Electricity Vision 30:30:30 which targets generation of 30 GW in 2030, with 30 per cent from renewable energy sources.

The minister said that Africa has trillions standard cubic feet of natural gas reserves, billions of barrels of crude oil reserves and billions of tonnes of coal. He also explained that concessioning of the dams was aimed at energising educational institutions and markets in the country.



“These are government-led initiatives based on the rural electrification plan approved by the President in 2016 to provide access to power for rural dwellers and vulnerable members of our society. We proposed to use six small hydro dams that had been abandoned for decades, Federal Government owned universities and some markets as anchors.

“Apart from the universities, where government is directly funding the intervention, the markets are being privately funded. There are currently 15 markets under contemplation with Ariaria, Sabon Gari and Sura markets in Aba, Kano and Lagos as flagships.


“Our thinking is simple. While the whole value chain and power privatisation gradually evolves, it is possible to create oases of success by showing to our children that they can have reliable power while in school.


“If that is a reason to get children to school and keep them there, certainly, no good business can oppose this.


“Indeed, it seems to me sensible to expect that the future of today’s business and even government rests solely on the quality of education that the current generations of students get.

“As for the markets, the 37,000 shops in Ariaria, about 13,000 in Sabon Gari, and about 1,000 in Sura represent SMEs, where the majority of our people earn a living,’’ he said.

President Muhammadu Buhari and representatives of the governors under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) yesterday met behind closed door to discuss ways out of the minimum wage conundrum.

Although resolution of the meeting which lasted about an hour was not made known, there were indications that the meeting was deadlocked.

Daily Sun learnt that the governors resolved to settle the issue away from the media so as not to unduly heat up the polity.

A source close to the meeting, yesterday, said the governors resolved to stick to their initial proposal of N22,500 which they made on the eve of the submission of the committee’s report on October 6, 2018.

Another source said the governors have settled for N24,000 which was the proposed figure by the Federal Government that was turned down by organised labour.

However, Organised Labour warned governors that reject the proposed minimum wage to forget the 2019 election.

Deputy President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr. Sunday Salako, said, in a telephone interview with the Daily Sun, that Labour had no interest in whatever might be the outcome of the latest governors meeting with President Buhari.


“All we’re interested in is the passage of the new minimum wage bill into law. We are not quarreling with them. What we want is for the president to send a bill to the National Assembly for ratification. When this is done, let us now see a governor that will not pay.”

He said Labour was happy that it coincided with the election year, noting that labour would make good use of the opportunity.

“We are going to use it as part of our campaign strategy; if you can’t pay minimum wage, then forget election.”

Salako said Labour had equally advised the governors that rather than running to President Buhari, any of them that feels he cannot pay, should go back to their state and inform the workers there.

“If they are bold enough let them go and address their workers and face the consequence thereafter.”

He said the campaign that they could not pay until the sharing of allocation is redressed has been on since last week, hence it was not new to the workers.

Similarly, Kwara State TUC chairman, Kolawole Olumoh, charged governors to cut down their expenses on political appointees and others.

He alleged that most governors appointed special assistants or advisers that were not relevant to governance in their various states.

“It is surprising that the governors could renege on their initial agreement at the tripartite meeting where it was agreed that they would pay the N30,000 minimum wage or,” he said. Governors had last week resolved to present another formula to address the issue of minimum wage to President Buhari.


Present at the parley were chairman of NGF and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz, Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi), Udom

Yari had told newsmen at the last emergency meeting that it was impracticable to implement the N30,000 minimum wage without downsizing the workforce all over the country.

He added that the resolution was either for the Federal Government to accede to the review of the national revenue allocation formula or mass sack. Meanwhile, Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen.Suleiman Zakari Kazaure has said any upward review of allowances of corpsmembers will have to wait until the Federal Government approved the proposed national minimum wage.


“The NYSC is part of Federal Government parastatals. So, we are still waiting for the minimum wage. I am sure whatever is approved will definitely affect NYSC,” Kazuare said on Monday during the commencement of the orientation programme and swearing-in of the 2018 Batch “C” Stream Two corps members deployed to Katsina State.


He urged the corps members to resist any financial inducement from politicians more so as some of them will serve as adhoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) 2019 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to lift 50 million Nigerians out of poverty, in the first two years of his administration, if he wins the election.
Atiku, former vice president, also promised that his government would attract investments and support 50 million Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises.

Atiku who spoke when he unveiled his policy launch through a live Facebook address in Yola, Adamawa, yesterday, said the idea is to double the size of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to $900 billion by 2025.
He said the investments would create a minimum of 2.5 million jobs annually and lift at least 50 million people from poverty in the first two years.

He said his team would also help to create jobs by innovating flagship programmes such as the national open apprenticeship through the capacity of master-craftsmen and women to train one-million new apprentices every year.


“Our national innovation fund and SME venture capital fund initiatives will provide stable and sustainable long-term support to aspiring entrepreneurs,” he said.

Atiku said his plan to restructure the country will lead to an increase in the internally generated revenue of states and federal governments.

He said if the country is restructured, “no state will receive less funding than they get today, in fact, all would receive more and the harder a state works the more they will get,” adding that they were not just his plan, but that of Nigerians.

The former vice president said above all, it is a plan that would help create job.

“Without jobs, there is crime, drug use and insecurity. Without jobs, where is the hope for a better life and a better future? We will begin the process of sharing our policies that form my plan to create jobs, restructure the polity, and get Nigeria working again.”

He said that would be done via the matching grants that we would be provided to state governments that increased their own revenue.


He also pledged to offer an inclusive leadership, because “Atiku Abubakar is 100 percent for 100 percent of Nigerians, 100 per cent of the time.”

The PDP presidential candidate said that he was not out to make promises without plan as witnessed in the past, adding that it is one thing to promise and another thing to deliver.

“I am not one for making grandiose promises. Rather than promises, I believe in policies. A promise is an indication to do a future action. A policy is a plan to achieve future goals.

“I believe in setting goals and coming up with realistic plans and policies to achieving those goals. To me, leadership is having the discipline to commit to one’s goals until they are a reality.

“I have succeeded in running my private enterprises which now employ 50,000 Nigerians because I believe in policies and I have the discipline to stay with them until they become reality.

“It is my desire to run for the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not because I have a bag full of promises, but because I am prepared to lead,” he said.


Abubakar said in the last 18 months, he had worked with the best experts Nigeria had to offer to come up with policies and plans that when implemented would get Nigeria going in the right direction again.

He recalled that as vice president from 1999 to 2007, he chaired the national economic council that gave Nigeria her highest and most consistent GDP growth of over six per cent per annum.

He said said in spite of the fact that crude oil prices at that time were much lower than they were today, under the leadership of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria paid off its entire foreign debt.

“We also introduced the GSM revolution that saw Nigeria go from 100,000 phone lines to over 100 million today. We were able to achieve these, and much more, because we had a plan called the national economic empowerment and development strategy.


“That plan worked, and today I have the pleasure of unveiling our policies and strategies, not promises, to take Nigeria from where she is right now, to where she needs to be.

“This is my plan to get Nigeria working again. A plan that will give Nigerian workers a living wage. A plan that will give Nigeria’s youth a world-class education.

“A plan that will empower Nigerian women, reduce maternal mortality and increase their financial stability. A plan that will cater for the elderly, so our people are not afraid of growing old.

“A plan that will invest in our failing infrastructure.”
Buhari reacts

The Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, however, faulted Atiku, as it argued that anyone who promised to restructure the country between six to 12 months “is telling the biggest lie.”

Festus Keyamo, spokesman for the group, said Buhari would not engage in deceit by promising what cannot be achieved.


He said the time span given by Atiku cannot work with the constitutional provisions for amendments that will allow restructuring.

“In the campaign manual, the president has not said that he will object to a constitutional amendment. He has not engaged in a deceitful nature to say I want to restructure when he knows he cannot in six months.

“Anybody that tells you that restructuring is something that should be done outside the amendment of the constitution is a lie. Restructuring is about devolution of powers, fiscal federalism. You cannot do that without amending the constitution.

“We call it the restructuring farce by the opposition. It is a farce because there is a clear procedure in the constitution for amending the constitution.”

Asked how the Buhari administration plans to fund the projects listed to be completed in four years, Keyamo said: “They will find a way. It is important to have a plan on the table, expecting resources to come.”

Righteousness is conformity to, or with, the will and nature of God. This will and nature of God must be received, learned, or discovered through the revelation of God, or revelation from God.

In other words, through the Word of God, you’re trained or tutored in the word or doctrine of righteousness; you’re trained to see and think differently! 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” The Word of God is God’s instruction manual to train you in the way and life of righteousness.

Through the ministry of the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit, you’re taught how to live the Kingdom life, irrespective of your environment. With this training, you’re sagacious, exceptional, able to deal wisely and excellently in life, reigning in union with Christ. Romans 5:17 says, “…they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”

It takes understanding righteousness to reign over demons, sickness, failure, defeat, and death. It takes your understanding of righteousness to reject everything that’s not of God, and endorse only that which is consistent with His perfect will for you. It takes being skilled in the word of righteousness to think differently, see differently, and talk differently from the carnal mind, and in the light of God’s truth.
This is why you should constantly yield yourself to the ministry of the Word, for the Word is your training manual in, and for, the life of righteousness.

A suspected paedophile identified as Isaac Evaghoghme, has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a house to rape a 7-year-old girl in Calabar, Cross River State, according to Calabar reporters.

The incident took place, last week Sunday, at Federal Housing Estate, Calabar, and the suspect was picked up, last Wednesday, through the efforts from the community and Basic Right Council Initiative, BRCI.

Evaghoghme allegedly broke into the victim’s house in the absence of her parent at about 10pm and defiled her. The girl was later taken to the hospital, where doctors discovered that her vagina needed to be stitched as a result of the damage caused by the suspect.

‘’it’s Jessica. She called to accept another date request I made the previous day but she wants a road trip which I really don’t understand. She asked me to come over to her house by 4pm’’ I explained to my friend, who laughed.

‘’maybe she wants you to take her to Nekede zoo or maybe Oguta lake’’ he joked, laughing hard.

‘’this isn’t a laughing matter brother’’ I said seriously, stopping his laughter with my words.

‘’well I really don’t have any advice to give. You already know she was involved with your late uncle and could probably be behind the attack you had last night. So you just have to be very careful. I hope she isn’t taking you out of town to kill you?’’ he said with a very serious tone while I shrugged.

‘’I really think she is very bad but then there is this feeling of calmness, this feeling of openness I always have whenever I’m with her. She acts like an innocent angel and I don’t just know what to believe anymore’’ I confessed .

‘’you just have to be careful. Only time will tell what she really is’’ he breathed with an air of certainty.

‘’I will meet her by 4pm. Life is all about taking risk. Whatever will be will be’’ I said with a forced smile.

I left Pamela at the hotel by 6am with my head high like someone who just graduated with first class result. Pamela never uttered a word to me nor tried to stop me from leaving after the little talk we had that early morning. I couldn’t imagine what she was thinking by wanting me to leave the country with her. I couldn’t imagine what she could be planning or what exactly was going on with her life.
Leaving the relationship was definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life but deep down I was still nervous, I was still scared that somehow she was going to pop up in my life again.

I returned to my hostel, very restless and nervous. I badly needed something to calm my nerves but unfortunately a long weekend was still ahead and Tracy wasn’t around anymore to keep me company. Without thinking twice, I did the unimaginable by calling her on phone with the news that I was coming over to her house that very day.

She couldn’t believe her ears when I broke the news. She kept quiet for some seconds before speaking.

‘’you are joking right?’’ she asked.

‘’I’m already on my way’’ I informed her.

‘’but why?. What made you change your mind?’’ she asked curiously.

‘’because I miss you very much. I can’t survive the weekend without you. I have seen how important you are to me’’ I confessed, leaving her silent for few seconds.

‘’you just made me cry now. I also do miss you over here’’ she confessed.

‘’I will be there in few hours. I promise’’ I breathed, hung up and got my things ready for a trip to Enugu.

It really was my first time of visiting a female friend in her family house and of course I was extremely nervous. I prayed for her parents to be kind and accommodative.

‘’I hope your dad won’t get mad at me’’ I asked her over and over as we chatted on my way to her house.

On getting to Enugu, Tracy was already at the bus station waiting for me with a chartered taxi. She cried out with joy as soon as she saw me alight from the bus.

‘’finally you made it’’ she broke out, hugging me tightly and drawing the attention of everyone at the bus station. I felt on top of the world, having such a pretty girl who cared so much for my well being, for my happiness, for my future all to myself. And that is what true love is all about.

But did I really deserve Tracy’s love??

Episode 22

Jude’s side of the story continues

As Tracy and I headed to her house minutes later, she held my hand and looked up at me with a worried look.

‘’please bear in mind that my dad is a medical doctor who also lectures in UNN. Do answer all his questions honestly, don’t lie about anything. He knows much about school stuffs and he is a very understanding man’’ she begged softly while I nodded like a child.
When we got to her house, she quickly led me to the sitting room where her dad and mother were seated, probably waiting for me even though it looked as if they were just busy watching a TV show.

They politely smiled as Tracy led me in.

‘’oh my dear you never told us you were bringing in a half caste’’ Tracy’s mother muttered jokingly. I greeted politely.

‘’you are welcome my son, Tracy told us a lot about you and one thing I do admire in my children is that they always bring their friends home for us to see and access. So do relax and feel at home’’ the old lady said to me sweetly, stood up and playfully dragged Tracy to one of the rooms, leaving me all alone with her husband.
Tears melted in my eyes as I remembered my mother. Tracy’s family really was the type of family I wanted for myself. I never played with my mother. I never saw my mum and dad together as a happy couple. It was just so painful seeing the kind of family I wanted, playing before my eyes.

The old man soon cleared his throat after feeding his eyes on me for some seconds.
‘’I’m not good with words but you should know that my daughter took a lot of risk by bringing you before us. Your presence in this house means that my daughter trusts and believes in you and I hope it will remain that way. You are the first man she is bringing home and I hope you won’t hurt her in the end?. I know what students are capable of and left for me, my daughter is still too young to have a male friend but I have no choice than to accept you. So feel free in my house’’ he said with a smile while I nervously nodded like a kid who just got luckily adopted by a rich family.

‘’thank you sir’’ I muttered softly.

The rest of the evening really was a bit uneventful. I had my shower, rested for a while at the guest room before joining the family for dinner. Yes I was overly nervous being with them and I had a hard time finishing my own share of the meal.
However after dinner, as I stood up to leave the dining room, Tracy’s mother asked me to wait for her in the sitting room.

‘’we have much to talk this evening. I hope you are not too tired?’’ she asked as I sat up.

‘’mum come on, he just got here’’ Tracy protested.

‘’I’m ready to talk anytime’’ I replied with a smile.

‘’good’’ the old woman smiled with satisfaction.

Minutes later in the sitting room, I sat alone with Tracy’s mother who took her time in asking me prying questions about my life, my fears and plans for the future. Yes she already knew a lot about me from her daughter and that really made our talk flow easily.

‘’you know during my days, most of my friends that ended up being successful in life were the ones with a very difficult background. I can vividly remember a friend back then in UNN. She lost her parents, five days before our first year first semester examination. And she was the first daughter of the family. All her siblings were very little back then and all her uncle’s could come up with was that she should return home, plan her parents burial, get married and care for her siblings. The whole department virtually had to force her to stay back and try her best in the coming exam which probably was going to be her last exam in the school since it was very clear to everyone that was going to drop out from school. She stayed behind, did her best, bade us farewell and left the school for an uncertain future. Could you believe that when the results came out, she turned out to be the best first year student in the whole faculty, which earned her a scholarship. She had to come back to school but it still wasn’t an easy ride for her. She turned herself to a student trader, and the proceeds were enough to cater for her siblings at home. Today she is a senior lecturer in U.N.N. So my dear what am I trying to say is that you should make good use of every situation you find yourself and never give up on life. God has a way of helping everyone. Sometimes it might look as if God isn’t on your side but the truth is that you fail to look beyond what your eyes are seeing that moment. At least you are lucky your dad left you a little thing to fall back on before he died. So what you should be thinking now is how to better your life and expand the family name. You look like a level headed boy to me and my daughter speaks very highly of you which left me and her father very curious to see you. Anyway we still have a lot to talk about’’ she summarized with a smile while I breathed deeply.
It really was the first time a woman sat me down and spoke to me like a mother and it just looked as if a new spirit fell upon me.

‘’you should go to your room and rest. We have church service to attend tomorrow. I hope you do go to church?’’ she asked with a smile. I nodded, smiled back at her and headed to the guest room, feeling very much at home.

The old woman’s words really touched me a great deal and even when I got to my room, I sat up on my bed and played back all she preached on my head. Tracy soon sneaked in, smiling like a little kid. She threw herself on me, resting her head on my laps.

‘’I told you my parents are good and accommodative. It’s just a pity you didn’t meet my siblings. Dad locked up the younger ones at the dormitory’’ she said with a smile, caressing my hands.

‘’Thank you for bringing me here. You really don’t know how much I feel right now’’ I confessed. She sat up, brought her face forward and stared into my eyes.

‘’I did it because I love you. I will do much more for you. I just pray you won’t disappoint or embarrass me before my family in future’’ she breathed solemnly.

‘’I love you too Tracy and I promise to be you forever’’ I promised, kissing her softly. She held me tightly, moaning under my soft kisses and wriggling as if an evil genie flew into her night wear. In no time we were passionately kissing on the bed, throwing caution to the wind. The urge in me was so strong and I knew she felt the same way.

‘’I’m willing to give you my virginity but it will be when we get back to our hostel’’ she suddenly promised, breaking away from my kisses.

‘’no I won’t need it till our wedding night. Just keep it safe for me’’ I replied with all sincerity because he just was my precious and the last thing I wanted was breaking into her vineyard so prematurely.

‘’I know you are not a virgin and I don’t want to be cheated on. So how do you satisfy your sexual urge since you don’t want it with me for the moment?’’ she suddenly asked, throwing off balance with such prying but valid question.

‘’and what gave you the impression that guys can’t survive without s-x?’’ I asked, smiling faintly. She said nothing.

‘’what matters the most is what we feel for each other. I respect you. I adore you. I love you and that’s more than enough reason for me to abstain from s-x till we get married’’ I answered, kissing her forehead. Her eyes brightened with tears of joy.

‘’that’s so sweet of you. You are such a gentleman. I really do pray nothing comes between us’’ she muttered softly, getting up from the bed.

‘’good night my love’’ she added, smiled and left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts and conscience as Pamela’s image flashed through my mind.

I left Pamela in a rough condition and deep down I knew I was yet to see the end of her even though I did the best thing by ending our relationship before it got out hand.

10am, Saturday

With the help of Joe, I got some laborers who fixed my fence while I busied myself tidying up my house, especially my kitchen that was tampered with by the hoodlums. I equally used the opportunity to hide the briefcase I got from my late uncle’s apartment because it really was the only new thing I had in my apartment that could probably be the reason I was attacked in such daring manner.

Later in the day, Joe brought a young Fulani guy to my house.

‘’you need someone to watch over your property and this guy here is the man’’ he said to me with a smile as I assessed the innocent looking guy with my eyes.

‘’you have nothing to worry about him. I know him very well’’ he added with a smile while I nodded in gratitude.

‘’thanks Joe; you have shown what a great friend you are. I will be at your gym tomorrow morning to brief you on my date with Jessica’’ I said to him with a smile. He laughed and shook his head.

‘’of course if you come back alive’’ he joked, shook hands with me and left.

The rest of the afternoon was a bit uneventful. All I did was rehearse and reshape the plans I had for Jessica and prepare for the date ahead. Of course as a human being I was a bit nervous and scared.
Just like my friend Joe insinuated, she could be behind the attack I had the previous night. She could be a wolf disguised as a sheep.
She could be luring me to my death and I had to be prepared for anything.

By 4:15pm, I was in front of Jessica’s house all nervous and vigilant. She soon appeared at her gate, smiling nicely like a beauty queen.

‘’thanks for coming on time’’ she muttered happily, drew close and surprised me with a hug which calmed my nerves.

‘’I guess you must be wondering what I’m up to?’’ she asked, smiling.

‘’yes of course’’ I replied, returning her gaze.

‘’you see every once in a while, I do take out my time to visit some orphanages and contribute my quota to their survival. It’s also something I always introduce my friends to. Something just struck me to involve you today. We can also use the opportunity to discuss and know each other very well as we drive round the town’’ she explained, smiling deeply and leaving me totally surprised, relived and stunned. Yes I was totally relieved in one hand and a bit stunned by the reason she just gave.
To me she was a high class lady, very charming and probably deceptive. I was all out to get her down but so far her behavior, her character and her heart showed nothing but innocence and purity. I honored her invitation, scared of what she was planning for me only to discover that all she wanted was for me to accompany her on a charity work.

‘’I hope you are not angry at me?’’ I heard her ask curiously.

‘’no of course not’’ I quickly replied. She smiled with relief and signaled to her gateman who quickly came out with some cartons of Indomie noodles, children clothes, provisions and toiletries. My car boot was soon filled up and all I could do was just to stare at her with great admiration. I used the moment to examine my life as I realized that I was yet to give out a single penny to the needy which really was totally bad of me.

‘’you know nothing sets the heart more at peace than helping people in need. Have you ever visited an orphanage before?’’ she asked as we headed to the first orphanage located at Aladinma.

‘’no it has never crossed my mind’’ I answered truthfully.

‘’God blessed you for a reason and the least you can do is to help the needy, to touch someone’s life with your help. You can’t believe the number of kids I’m paying school fees for.’’ She added with a smile while I kept quiet.

The evening turned out to be a very long and interesting one for me. I got to experience firsthand how an orphanage looked like and how the kids living there were treated. We visited about five of such homes and I ended up donating five thousand naira to each of them which really was nothing, compared to what Jessica gave out.

When we got back to her house, late in the evening, she invited me inside for the first time.

‘’I’m really proud of you Kelvin. Not many guys would be happy on what I did. I took you to where you never planned visiting and yet you contributed your quota. So you now have the right to pick out the time and place of our next date’’ she said to me with a happy smile after showing round her impressive residence. I couldn’t believe my ears.

‘’wow that’s so good to hear, but really you taught me a very wonderful lesson today’’ I confessed. She drew close, breathed deeply, hugged and pecked me affectionately.

‘’you are such a wonderful guy Kelvin and I really enjoyed my evening with you’’ she whispered, melting my heart with her action and I kind of trembled before her as I tried so hard to control my emotions.
I so badly wanted to grab and kiss her that moment but luckily I was able to hold back myself.

I never planned falling in love with Jessica because she was still my main suspect over my uncle’s death but somehow my emotions were getting on the way and she looked so pure, open minded and honest.

It looked as if I was gradually falling in love for the first time. Or could it be lust??

Episode 24

Jude’s side of the story continues

Early Sunday morning, we all headed to a catholic church down the street for a Sunday Church service. The kindness and love shown to me by Tracy’s parents was something I never dreamt of having. I really felt so much at peace being with them.

However on our way to the church, Tracy took my phone for no just reason and since I had nothing to hide (Apart from Pamela’s phone numbers which were saved in my phone with her real name, everything other thing like our chats and messages were always deleted after each chat session). I allowed Tracy to have my phone. But unfortunately, that very Sunday was the day the devil remembered me.

Later in the day, just minutes after we got back from church service, Tracy ran into my room, all colored up and angry. She threw my phone at me with great rage, while I stared at her with great confusion.

‘’I can’t believe you were with another girl, the night before you came here. What an insult to me. I cheapened myself so much for you. I blame myself for this’’ she burst out with such a loud voice that left me very scared.

‘’you have to reduce your voice and talk me. Do you want your parents to hear your voice?. I don’t understand what you are saying’’ I tried my best to calm her but instead of calming down, she drew forward to slap me but I caught her hand on time and firmly dragged her down on the bed while she struggled to free herself.

I really couldn’t figure out how she discovered I spent the night with Pamela since I had nothing incriminating on my phone. I equally was very sure that the last thing Pamela would do was to share our little secret to anyone because she was so conscious of herself and dignity.

‘’you still don’t understand right?. Get your phone, read the message you just got. Yes I read it. Yes I invaded your privacy but I did it for a genuine reason’’ she breathed as she struggled with me.
I slowly grabbed my phone, opened the message box and read the first message I saw. Of course the message was from no other person than Pamela. I froze as I read the text message she left me.

‘’I can’t still believe you had the mind to do what you did after the risk I took in coming down to spend Friday night with you. Things don’t always go the way we plan, but just know that we are in this together. I won’t bother you again but you will come looking for me’’

I read the message over and over without really knowing what to make of it or the explanation to give to Tracy. I was simply unprepared and clueless on how to tackle the situation. I couldn’t even think properly.

‘’why would you be with another woman on Friday and then the next day, you pretend and come over to my house like a saint?. What kind of man are you?’’ she asked with tears on her eyes and I really felt so bad. She was a woman before anything and I knew she would never understand if I try giving an honest explanation.
There wasn’t any doubt she was already disgusted by me. To her, I greatly dishonored her love and all she felt for me by taking advantage of her feelings. I was now nothing but a good pretender before her eyes.

‘’I just don’t know you Jude’’ she sobbed deeply.

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

‘’so how about you come over to my house tomorrow afternoon for a date?. I’m a good cook and it really will be an honor cooking for such a wonderful lady like you’’ I suddenly asked Jessica as she escorted me out of her house that Saturday evening.

‘’of course you already know I can’t say no’’ she replied sweetly, rolling her eyes.
I quickly gave her my address, hugged her again and drove home in a very happy mood. There wasn’t any doubt that I was making a smooth headway to her heart and she equally was slowly gaining direct access to my heart.

Early Sunday morning when everyone was heading to church, I headed to Joe’s gym to exercise and chat with my friend. Joe looked so happy to see me and I couldn’t help but wonder if he really thought I was going to die the previous evening.

‘’I’m so glad to see you my friend. Since you survived yesterday, I guess you aren’t dying anytime soon’’ he joked while I laughed.
In no time I told him everything that happened between Jessica and I the previous evening, hiding nothing from him.

‘’I hope you are not going to end up having kids with her?. With the way you guys are going, I won’t be surprised if that happens’’ he joked when I was done with my story.

‘’seriously bro, I always feel different whenever I’m with Jessica. I really haven’t achieved much with her other than stupidly getting romantically attached to her and I can’t stop myself or control what I’m feeling’’ I confessed.

‘’hmmm you have to take it easy’’ he advised with a smile.

An hour later, I returned to my house and busied myself with preparing a delicious meal of fried rice and salad for Jessica. Growing up in the village taught me a whole lot of things and I could boast of being one of the best male cooks around. Though lately, Cynthia had always been around to help me out.

The spirit and energy I used in cooking for Jessica was something I really didn’t know where it came from and by 1pm, the food, table, wine and flowers were all ready. I just felt like a bachelor who was expecting his fiancée from abroad.

2pm, Jessica arrived my house, looking so gorgeous and charming. My heart pounded loud as I welcomed her into my house.

‘’wow, you have such a nice house. You are doing too well for yourself’’ she complemented my great taste. I smiled nervously.

Thirty five minutes later, we were done with lunch and the look of admiration on her face was clearly visible.

‘’you know when you said you were going to cook for me, I thought maybe you were just trying to impress me but seriously after eating and listening to your story on how you learnt to cook and the method you used to prepare this wonderful meal, you totally won a great deal of me. I like guys who know how to cook and I adore guys who know how to cook excellently well. I score you 99%’’ she said with great admiration while my head swelled with pride.

‘’so what now?’’ she asked as we got up to leave the table. I smiled, drew close and did what I never wanted to do.
I kissed her and surprisingly, she kissed back, opening a new chapter in my life.

Will I end up regretting or did I make the right decision???

Kelvin’s side of the story continues from the last scene

We kissed passionately for a while before Jessica got hold of her body and broke away from me.

‘’stop this. I beg of you’’ she breathed, looking down. I slowly brought up her face with my hands and looked into her eyes with great desire. The urge to make love to her was so much in me. I just felt hot and hor.ny like a guy who hasn’t been with a woman for many years.

‘’I don’t know why I’m feeling this way. I hardly have feelings for women but with you things are different. I can’t control my body. I can’t even hold back what I’m feeling inside. I’m sorry for ruining our date’’ I stammered softly. She shook her head and breathed deeply.

‘’you didn’t ruin anything Kelvin. I feel the same way’’ she confessed, leaving me a bit stunned and happy at the same time. Without another word, I drew closer and kissed her again, this time around, putting more fire and energy into it.

‘’oh easy’’ she moaned, holding me tightly as if she was scared of standing on her feet. I just was on top of the world that moment. It was as if we were the only couple on earth. I never knew when or how I got the energy to carry her to my room without breaking our kiss and oh yes she was quite a great kisser.

In no time, my mouth was on her left nipp.le which I managed to squeeze out of her bra and just like that we were soon unclad on my bed, ready to take our passion to the next level.

‘’what are you doing?’’ she asked weakly as I slowly dug into her. Her body was so warm and welcoming.

Thirty five minutes later, we fell apart, totally spent and tired. It really was one hell of a love making.

‘’I can’t believe we just did it’’ I heard her mutter to herself as she buried her face on my pillow while I slowly regained my senses as the consequences of what we just did slowly dawned on me.
Making love to her was never part of the plan and with the way I still felt about her, I was very clueless on the direction my life and plans were heading.

‘’you have to listen to me Tracy, even if it’s for the last time’’ I begged, trying hard to get the broken girl to listen to me.

‘’what is there to lie huh? What is there to say?’’ she breathed solemnly.

‘’and what gave you the impression that I want to lie. I only wanted to protect you by keeping this away from you but since it has come to this level, I have no choice than to tell you what actually happened on Friday night and the reason I came over to your house yesterday’’ I stammered, trying so hard to come up with an explanation.

I never planned telling her the truth but I equally knew I had to at least come up with something close to the truth to get her trust back. I really wasn’t a good liar but my business with Kelvin taught me a whole lot of things, including turning a lie into a believable truth.
Coolval once wrote that ‘sometimes a well told lie is better than a painful truth’ and that was the option I had no choice than to take. I had to come up with a well constructed lie.

‘’I was with Pamela on Friday night. The silly girl just showed up to spend the weekend with me, without even notifying me that she was coming over. It was hell spending the night with her because all I could think about was you. And early the next day, I had to lie to her that I was travelling. I couldn’t bear spending Saturday and Sunday with her and the only way to kick her out was to make her believe I was travelling. It was the reason I had to start coming down to your house yesterday, instead of Monday we agreed on. I did it all for you. Okay why will a guy spend a night with a girl on Friday and abandon her to visit another girl on Saturday?’’ I explained nervously.
For the first time, Tracy kept calm and searched me with her eyes. It was obvious she was buying all I just poured out.

‘’but who is she?’’ she asked, leaving me a bit uncomfortable with the question. Of course the last thing I would do was telling her that Pamela was a married woman. That she’s a senator’s wife.

‘’Pamela is a student. I used to have fun with her before the death of my dad’’ I lied. She looked down, saying nothing.

‘’I know you still don’t believe me but do know that I have genuine feelings and intentions for you. I will leave your house this evening because I don’t want you to embarrass me before your parents. I never came here to take advantage of you. Please simply pretend as if all Is still well between us, till I leave in few hours’’ I begged her softly.

‘’who told you I didn’t believe you?. I know you have no reason to lie to me and the explanation you gave is more than convincing. You have no reason to be here yesterday but you surprised me by coming over instead of being with her. Not many guys would do it. I’m sorry for doubting you. It’s just that her text message shocked me. I’m fine now and I believe you’’ she suddenly opened up with eyes filled with tears.

I swallowed hard with guilt as I stared back at her. Tears slowly showed up in my eyes. She never deserved being lied to but I had no choice.

Jude’s side of the story continues

I ended up spending seven cool days at Tracy’s house and I really had a very great time with the lovely family. They showed me great love and I couldn’t help but pray to God, begging him to give me such type of happy home in future.
I really felt at peace being them.

Tracy and i headed back to school at the end of the week to face a very tough examination. I started the semester very badly and so really wasn’t hoping for a good result. Nevertheless I tried my best with Tracy’s assistance which was more than enough for me.

The exam week really was very uneventful and nothing much happened in my life apart from the regular routine of leaving the hostel early and returning late throughout the duration.

However precisely one week after the exams, just as I was making plans for my industrial training, something happened that shook my entire being. It was something I never expected in any way and yes it did happen in a very shocking manner.

On that fateful evening, I was lazily going through my bbm chats when something or should I say curiosity made me check Pamela’s profile. As I clicked on her profile, the bbm status she uploaded kind of left me speechless for a while.

’’I’ll soon be a mother. Can’t wait’’ were the exact words I saw on her status. And after few minutes of reading the status over and over, I sent her a message.

’’congrats on the baby you are expecting. God is wonderful’’ I sent to her with an open heart.
It really was the first time I was sending her a message after breaking up with her weeks ago and deep down I equally was very surprised that she could stay a week or two without bothering to chat me up.

Yes I know i shouldn’t have sent her the message. I should have deleted her contact long ago, but I failed to do so for no just reason.

In two minutes, my bbm beeped and on checking it, I saw that she replied my message.

‘’ yes I’m having your baby for my husband’’ was the reply she sent me, leaving me so cold with shock and disbelief. My head just went hollow that moment. I really didn’t know what to think or what to reply.

’’really?’’ I managed to type and send.

’’yep’’ she replied instantly.
I switched off my phone and fell back on my bed to calm down as the reality of what she just informed me did wonders on my body.

‘’maybe she’s trying to play a fast one on me. I have to relax. I have to keep calm before Tracy walks in and catches me in this state’’ I said to myself as sweat soaked my body and no matter how hard I tried to calm down, I just couldn’t keep my mind at rest.

In few minutes, I was down with severe headache which slowly heated up every part of my body, making it look as if I was down with malaria. Tracy soon walked in to see me looking so sick. Feeling my pulse, she concluded that I was down with malaria and rushed out to get some malaria drugs for me, which I took without hesitation because I had no strength to argue with her.

The next day, I woke up without any headache or fever. But my problems and fear were still there to solve. I lazily grabbed my phone, checked my bbm and read the short chat I had with Pamela the previous day. I read it over and over to be sure of myself before deleting it.

‘’I can’t solve this on my own. I have to open up to Kelvin. He is older and more experienced. He will figure out something for me’’ I decided without any other choice.

After having breakfast with Tracy that fateful morning, I headed to Kelvin’s house ignoring Tracy’s pleas to stay back and rest. Of course she was far from knowing what really was wrong with me and all her concerns were on my health without knowing that something stronger was killing me inside.

I arrived at Kelvin’s house around 9:45am and headed straight to his bedroom since I couldn’t find him in the sitting room. But on getting to his bedroom, I heard voices coming out from inside which told me that he’s with someone.
The voices I heard were that of two adults discussing and not that of two adults making love. I tapped on the door to make my presence known before peeping into the room to know if I was free to enter but as soon as I peeped in, a sight struck me that shattered the remaining sanity I had left.

Kelvin sat on his bed, carrying a lady on his body and the lady was no other person than the lady he showed me on his computer sometime back. The lady he introduced to me as Jessica Simon. The lady he told me could be behind my father’s death.

Yes her image stuck in my head from that day he showed me her picture and she was the same lady I just saw him playing with.

I staggered back, surprised, shocked and confused.

Episode 27

Jude’s side of the story continues from the last scene of the previous episode

I returned to the sitting room, feeling so cold and miserable. I really didn’t know how to react over the scene I just witnessed. What I saw was nothing but two adults in love and I couldn’t help but reason that Kelvin could be working for both sides. He was a scammer for crying out loud and so was capable of anything.

Yes he told me about the lady quite alright. He equally told me about his plans for her but what I just saw really wasn’t part of the plan and I was no fool not to know when being played.

‘’Jude I’m so glad you came’’ I soon heard Kelvin say to me with a smile as he showed up in the sitting room. It was possible he saw me when I peeped into his room, minutes ago.

‘’please let’s talk outside’’ he added, winking at me. I breathed deeply and followed him to the front veranda where he stopped and searched me with his eyes, expecting me to say something but I didn’t. I simply kept my feelings to myself and made no attempt to ask him about what I just witnessed.

‘’I’m with Jessica’’ he whispered with a smile, trying hard to be open with me. I simply shrugged, saying nothing.

‘’things are going on well between us and by God’s grace in no time I will uncover all she’s hiding’’ he added with a smile of accomplishment, expecting me to leave a positive response but I said nothing, instead smiled and shook my head. The last thing in my mind was to believe him. I simply pretended and smiled like an innocent kid.

‘’you don’t look too well to me. What’s up?’’ he asked, searching me with his eyes once again.

‘’I have been down with fever. The exam stress was just too much’’ I answered softly, keeping the main reason I came to visit him to myself. Of course I couldn’t get myself to tell him my problem and secret after what I just witnessed. I kind of decided to tackle my problem without involving him.

‘’oh I see. No wonder’’ he breathed.

‘’I just felt like saying hello to you today, that’s the reason I stopped by. Anyway I have to go. You are busy’’ I said, forcing out a smile while he shrugged, his eyes still on me. It was very obvious he sensed something wasn’t right with me.

‘’okay but I will be expecting you soon again because we have a new deal to push through’’ he muttered softly. I smiled, nodded and left his apartment without another word.

Yes I really felt bitter seeing him with that woman and supposing I was stronger and older than him, I would have dealt with the lady in his presence without minding what it would lead to but unfortunately all I could do that moment was just to pretend and walk away with a heart full of hatred.

On getting to my car, I dialed Pamela’s number. She soon picked my call without greeting or saying hi to me.

‘’we have to talk’’’ I said coldly.

‘’I can’t speak to you on phone. If you are serious about settling with me then you should come over to Abuja’’ she replied and hung up rudely, leaving me speechless and totally confused.

‘’is she really serious?’’ I reasoned as I dialed her number again.

‘’please if you are really serious about speaking with me, just find a way to come over to Abuja’’ she said again, hanging up rudely.

I just can’t describe how I felt that moment. My head was just filled with confusion and indecisiveness. I had Kelvin’s games on one hand to deal with, Jessica’s involvement on my father’s death to unravel, Pamela before me to subdue and innocent Tracy at the corner, totally unaware of anything or the dangers I could be putting her to.

‘’Should I go to Abuja or not?’’ I reasoned over and over.

I returned to my room with great guilt. Of course I noticed the suspicion on Jude’s face as we talked seconds ago. I equally knew he visited for a reason but had to go back without opening up to me.
I knew I went over the line in my dealings with Jessica. I knew what I was doing with her was totally wrong but the problem was how to stop and get my act together.
From the first day I tasted her honeypot, my feelings and plans totally changed to something I just couldn’t describe. I couldn’t even stay a day without being with the pretty lady and she was now influencing my life a great deal.
I was just like a hunter who got caught in his own trap and about to be devoured by the animal the trap was meant for.

‘’who was the guy that peeped at us?’’ Jessica asked as I walked into my room.

‘’oh he’s my cousin Jude’’ I answered with a smile. Her eyes instantly widened with excitement.

‘’your cousin Jude?. Where is he now?. I can’t wait to be introduced to him’’ she asked with a smile while I stared at her suspiciously, trying hard to keep my feelings in check.

Jude’s side of the story continues

I returned to my hostel with a very troubled spirit. I just didn’t know the direction to think. I knew I had to do something to stop Pamela’s plans but what exactly do I do was a question I couldn’t answer.

‘’dear lord I hope she isn’t pregnant for me’’ I prayed as my mind flashed back to the fun I had with her. Of course I was so stupid to sleep with her without any form of protection. I was so carried away by her beauty and personality without knowing that she had sinister plans for me. I just felt like a big fool. Oh yes I was a very big idiot.

Keeping my fears and feelings away from Tracy was another tough battle I fought so hard to win but in the end the caring girl soon noticed that something else was eating me up.
Tracy was just so sharp in noticing things and it really was one of the qualities I admired in her.

‘’you know yesterday, I thought it was only malaria that was bothering you but I feel something else is eating you up. You have been acting so withdrawn and strange since yesterday. What is bothering you?’’ she asked curiously when we were alone in her room. I breathed deeply, wondering if it was okay to tell her the truth or not.

‘’yesterday I was down with fever but today I’m okay, only that I’m still weak’’ I answered, smiling convincingly.

‘’Jude I have known you for a long time and I know when you lie. At least I know ninety five percent of the times you lie. You just lied now’’ she pushed on.

‘’okay fine, my cousin Kelvin invited me to his house just to tell me that an uncle in Abuja wants to see me and I think its relating to my dad’s death. Moreover I’m yet to travel to the states to meet my dad’s attorney. I just have a lot going on in my head right now and I’m still indecisive on whether to head to Abuja tomorrow or not’’ I lied fluently. She breathed deeply and held my hand.

‘’now I understand how you feel. I think it’s best you meet your uncle. You have a lot to gain. But first you have to be strong’’ she said with a smile. I swallowed hard with guilt as I returned her gaze. Each time I lied to the innocent girl, my conscience always pinched me. She never deserved a guy like me but unfortunately love pushed her to me.

‘’Tomorrow I will head to Abuja then ‘’ I muttered with a smile.

Later in the night as I was about falling asleep, my phone rang and it was Pamela calling me for the first time since I broke up with her. I stared at the ringing phone for a while before answering the call.
Luckily the night was one of those nights Tracy insisted on sleeping in her room and I really was grateful for it because I still had a lot to talk with Pamela.

‘’listen Jude, I really don’t want to be hard on you. No matter what happened in the past, I still love you and you are going to be the father of my child. I think you should keep aside your pride and come over to Abuja for us to talk. I didn’t get pregnant to punish you or to force myself on you. I got pregnant for a reason. I got pregnant because I’m obliged to have a baby at all cost and I couldn’t help but allow a man I love the most to father the child for me. We really have a lot to talk. Just come over to Abuja. You have nothing to fear’’ she preached softly.

‘’fine, I will be there tomorrow evening. I will take a flight to Abuja tomorrow’’ I agreed softly.

‘’ Just alert me when you touch down at the airport. I will come pick you up’’ she added and hung up, leaving me with my thoughts.

By 6:23pm the next evening, I was in a black Hilux truck Pamela sent to pick me from the airport. At first I was nervous when the driver walked up to me but his friendly smile and Igbo language made me loosen up.
In no time we arrived at Pamela’s house. A very cute bungalow built with high taste.
Of course I was scared as I alighted from the truck. I never expected to find myself there. I thought we were meeting at a hotel or guest house.

Pamela soon appeared, smiling happily.

‘’welcome to my house Jude’’ she greeted proudly while I stared at her suspiciously. But I said nothing nor made any protest until we were all alone in the sitting room.

‘’why bring me here?. This is your matrimonial house right?’’ I asked nervously.

‘’oh come on Jude! Does this lonely house look like the house a serving senator resides in?’’ she asked, leaving me silent.

‘’I live here all alone with my security and driver. I already told you there are many things about me you are yet to know’’ she explained with a smile, leaving me to wonder if she’s actually a senator’s wife or a senator’s mistress. Moreover she revealed the previous night that she needed a child at all cost.

‘’what really is she up to?. I pray I don’t burn in hell with her’’ I pondered as I prayed silently.

Episode 29

Jude’s side of the story continues from the last scene of the previous episode

‘’I prepared something delicious for you. Let’s go to the dining table or do you want to first freshen up?’’ Pamela asked, trying hard to make me feel at home but unfortunately my mind was far from being at ease. All I wanted was to reach a good compromise with her. I just couldn’t bear the idea of her having my first child.

‘’I didn’t come here to freshen up or to eat. I came for something serious. You are not having my child, are you?’’ I asked coldly. She laughed and shook her head.

‘’you know most times guys always like playing the victim when it comes to issues concerning unwanted pregnancy. I really don’t understand why you are trying to look innocent. You very well knew my marital status, yet you had the mind to approach and make countless love to me without protection. The result of our action pops up and you finally remember that I’m not worthy of you. We really have a lot to talk Jude. I advice you calm down, let’s go to the dining room. We will talk after dinner’’ she said softly, flashing an annoying smile while I slowly calmed down.
Of course she was very right with what we just said. She wasn’t to be blamed for what we did together.

I nervously ate the fried rice she served me halfheartedly. My mind was just so occupied with many thoughts. I couldn’t help but realize that moment that my journey to Abuja was nothing but useless. Pamela had her plans already figured out and my visit was never going to change a thing.
‘’dear lord I’m just being more stupid with each passing moment. What is wrong with me?. Why can’t I think things before acting?’’ I prayed and pondered in my mind.
I really was so pathetic and silly. I couldn’t believe it was all happening. It looked more of a dream to me than reality.

Pamela soon reached out to hold my left hand.

‘’Jude you shouldn’t look so worried. I’m sorry for dragging you into my mess. The last thing I would do is to hurt you. Nevertheless you have to listen to what I have to say and support me’’ she breathed softly. I stared at her, saying nothing.

‘’I grew up in the worst kind of family a child would ever have. My Nigerian father so much abused my mum, to the extent of strangling her before my eyes. He ended up with a life sentence in the states and I had to grow up in three different homes. I won’t bore you with my childhood tales but you have to know that I did anything to survive back then until I met my husband the senator. A friend actually introduced me to him for a one night stand but he ended up falling in love with me. He got me a new apartment, brushed me up and changed my life. He finally had to ask me to convert to his religion and marry him. My friends all encouraged me to go on with him but I never loved him. The only attraction he had was his money. I was advised to marry him, have a child for him and get a divorce after some months. Unfortunately it was all easier said than done. After the quiet marriage, he tried making me part of his household but his wife and children were far from being accommodative. They tried every trick to get me out of the house until the old man had no choice than to get me this house. He couldn’t even get me pregnant and that’s my only ticket to freedom and equally the main reason I needed you. You have all the features I want my son’s father to have.
What’s left for me to do now is to convince the senator that I’m pregnant for him. He still loves me and I already have made good use of the opportunity to milk him very much. I will have my child in the states and I will never come back to Nigeria. The old man will only learn the truth when I decide. So nothing you will ever say to me will make me to lose your child. The best you can do is to leave the country with me. We can start all over. I have more than enough money for that. Of course I know you won’t allow your child to grow up without knowing you’’ she slowly opened up, leaving me feeling so sick and nauseous. I just didn’t know what to say or how to react.

‘’so you are using my child for a dangerous game. You just don’t know what you are getting yourself into. You can’t play a politician and live to tell the story’’ I muttered, dropping my eyes.

‘’moreover I still find it hard to believe your story’’ I added, frowning deeply.

‘’tomorrow is my birthday. I will be twenty seven tomorrow. How about we make plans’’ she suddenly changed the topic as if we were done with the current situation. I sprang up furiously.

‘’I will never be part of your games. Not anymore. I’m leaving’’ I shouted at her.

‘’you can’t be serious’’ she replied, smiling and licking her lips.

‘’I have enough money. I can lodge in any hotel’’ I barked seriously, heading out of the dining room.

‘’there is someone I will like you to meet. She told me something strange when I asked her to check you out. Your life could be in danger Jude’’ she suddenly muttered, stopping me with her words. I turned and faced her seriously.

‘’are you trying to play another trick on me?’’ I asked. She scoffed and shrugged.

‘’I’m not begging you to stay back. You can leave if you want to’’ she breathed and stood up with a drawn face. I stared at her suspiciously, not knowing the right decision to take.

‘’The lady told me that the same wind that blew your father away is now dangerously hovering above you’’ she added, eyed me and headed out of the dining room while I stood still like a palm tree.
I felt she was trying to get in my head. I felt she was trying to use my weak point against me. I felt she was playing a mind game on me but still I was very curious to know the meaning of what she just said. I couldn’t just leave after what she said about my life being in danger.

I was driving out of Joe’s gym when my phone rang and it was Jessica calling. I smiled as I answered her call.

‘’Hi dear. Guess where I’m?’’ she said sweetly,

‘’hmmm tell me’’ I begged.

‘’I’m in front of your house’’ she answered.

‘’oh dear me, I will be home in few minutes’’ I replied, smiling broadly.

‘’I’m waiting, better hurry’’ she added and hung up.
I smiled to myself as I sped up. Jessica was nothing but a she devil. I just couldn’t have enough of her.

On getting to my house, she came forward and hugged me, softening my heart tremendously.

‘’I prepared a special bean-cake (moi moi) at home and I had to bring it over here for us to eat together. It actually took me all evening to prepare but the stress is worth it’’ she said happily, pecking me. I swallowed hard with great eagerness. I couldn’t wait to have the delicious meal. The last time I ate such food was two years ago in the village.

In no time we were enjoying the super delicious bean-cake with pap mixed with milk. I really felt like proposing to her that moment. Of course the fastest way to most men’s heart is through the stomach.

‘’I have something to ask of you?’’ she suddenly breathed when we were done with the meal.

‘’what is it you want?’’ I asked curiously.

‘’I want you to introduce me to your cousin Jude’’ she demanded, leaving me totally stunned.

I almost choked with surprise.

‘’what’s up with your interest in my cousin Jude?. Do you know his late father?. Is there anything you are not telling me?’’ I asked Jessica, searching her reaction. She smiled and shrugged.

‘’I feel that you don’t want your family to know about me. You don’t tell me anything about them and your body language is not like that of a guy who wants to take our relationship to the next level’’ she answered softly while I breathed deeply.
I really wasn’t expecting such reply from her. I had expected my question to throw her off balance but she answered it quickly and innocently as if she had nothing else in mind. If actually she wanted to meet Jude for another motive, it never showed on her.

‘’how do you think, introducing you to my cousin will change my body language?’’ I asked.

‘’At least knowing one person from your family will assure me that you are not a ghost’’ she answered with a smile.

‘’fine, by next weekend, Jude and I will have dinner at your place. Hope you are cool with it?’’ I offered, leaving a very satisfying smile on her face.
If really she was planning something bad for my cousin, it failed to show on her.

‘’what exactly did the lady tell you about my life?. I hope you are not trying to play with my head?’’ I asked Pamela as I followed her to the kitchen. She scoffed, turned and faced me.

‘’what will I gain by playing with head. You are free to leave. You act like a little kid and I feel so sick being with you sometimes’’ she answered coldly, eyed me and faced the dishes she was about washing.
I silently watched her for a while, uncertain of what to do next. She really seemed very serious with the information she gave me but then it equally looked like a ploy to stop me from leaving.

‘’can you tell me about the lady?’’ I demanded but she kept quiet, saying nothing to me.

‘’please I beg of you. Who is the lady and how did she know me?’’ I begged breathlessly. She turned, stared at me for a while and smiled.

‘’don’t get so colored up. You are not dying tonight. I will tell you everything you need to know later in the night’’ she said softly. I shrugged with resignation.

I ended up spending the night at her place and it really was a very long and memorable one for me. Pamela and I had a lot to discuss and yes we had a very long talk.

‘’so tell me about your new girlfriend?’’ she asked as she settled down beside me on her bed. I smiled to myself as Tracy’s image appeared in my head.

‘’her name is Tracy. She has everything I need in a woman. She is beautiful, intelligent and down to earth’’ I answered softly. Pamela breathed deeply, drew closer and placed her head on my chest.

‘’we have been through a lot together and she trusts me so much’’ I added proudly.

‘’do you have her picture on your phone?’’ she asked curiously.

‘’yes’’ I answered, reached for my phone and opened the picture gallery. Together we went through Tracy’s pictures.

‘’she is very beautiful’’ she confessed.

‘’yes and I’m very proud of her’’ I answered proudly.

‘’so are you going to tell her about us?’’ she suddenly asked, shocking me with the question.

‘’no I can’t’’ I breathed quickly.

‘’but you have to. Sooner or later she’s bound to find out and if you are really serious about her, I think the best thing to do is to open up to her yourself’’ she softly advised while I eyed her angrily.

‘’you are a lady and you know a young girl like her will break up with me on learning of our illicit affair. The great love and trust she has for me won’t stop her from walking away.’’ I replied with a slightly raised tone.

‘’okay fine, just do your thing the way you want’’ she muttered with resignation.

‘’right now, I feel like strangling you. I feel like resetting my life. You came into my life to ruin me. I’m really far from happy with you’’ I confessed.

‘’so do you still want to hear about the lady I told you about or not?’’ she suddenly asked, changing the topic.

‘’so tell me about her. That’s the main reason I stayed back’’ I muttered. She smiled and sat up.

‘’she is a very powerful spiritualist. She has been giving me spiritual guidance ever since I came to this country and never for once has she failed me. She sees the future and sometimes can manipulate one’s destiny. A friend actually introduced her to me and you can’t believe her clientele ranges from young girls, politicians, government contractors, and even pastors. She has a special way of offering prayers’’ she slowly explained while I laughed.

‘’I really don’t believe in that stuff. There are a lot of them in my area’’ I said, smiling with disbelief.

‘’before we had the first s-x, I scanned your picture and gave to her to check if we were compatible. After her prayers, she told me you are going to be my child’s father but may end up not seeing the child.’’ She narrated softly.

‘’when I pressed her further, she told me that an evil wind is circling round you, the same wind that took away your father.’’ She added, putting a little fear in my heart with her words. I swallowed hard, unable to say anything.
Of course I knew most spiritualists were nothing but fraudsters but then I equally knew that most of them were good at predicting ugly events.

‘’if you still doubt me, tomorrow I will take you to her. Perhaps she will have something new to tell you’’ she added and smiled reassuringly, leaving me deep in thought whether to go with her to see the woman or not.

‘’Jude there is no doubt your life is in danger. Trust me. The last thing I will do is to hurt you because I so much wish for my child’s father to live a very long life’’ she pressed further, totally convincing me.

‘’how about we make love?’’ Pamela suddenly demanded, pulled up her night wear and climbed over me seductively. I swallowed hard as I stared at her tempting body. I never suspected she was unclad underneath, until she pulled up her night wear that very moment.

‘’I’m not in the mood. I want to sleep’’ I lied, trying hard to look responsible while deep down my body was already responding to the sight of her seductive body.

‘’I’m already pregnant. So there is nothing to lose. Relax’’ she pushed, slowly went for my d—k, drew down my shorts and suc.ked it with great energy. Her mouth and tongue were just made for the stuff J .

We ended up making love once again. I had no one but myself to blame for having s-x with Pamela that fateful night. I just couldn’t hold myself from doing it with her not minding the problems ahead. Perhaps I easily got in the mood because the last time I had s-x was weeks ago and it was already telling on me.
Yes I enjoyed every bit of it as it lasted but immediately after the deed my conscience flogged me. I began feeling regret and nauseous.

The next morning, I woke up to see Pamela smiling with her eyes on me. I yawned and sat up, returning her gaze.

‘’you know my greatest prayer is for us to have a happy family. I can’t imagine how it would feel, waking up every morning in your arms. I never believed in love until I met you and now it’s making me look stupid’’ she breathed softly. I kept quiet. Of course I couldn’t figure out what to say.

‘’you can’t even wish me a happy birthday’’ she suddenly complained with a sigh. I smiled, drew close and gave her a surprising kiss.

‘’happy birthday dear’’ I muttered sweetly, leaving her blushing with delight.

‘’so what are your plans for today?. Do you still wish to see the woman I told you about or should we plan something for my birthday?’’ she asked curiously.

‘’I’m going back to where I came from today. I think I will first like to see the woman before heading back to my state’’ I answered.

‘’okay cool. I guess I will have to sacrifice my birthday celebration for you.’’ She muttered with resignation.

By 10am, we were on our way to Suleja to meet the overhyped spiritualist. I really never believed in such stuff but sometimes that are things that could lead one into doing something out of curiosity. I had nothing to lose seeing the lady and so had to accept going with Pamela to see her.
Pamela equally insisted we go in the morning in order to be attended to on time. According to her, the place was always filled up with people searching for answers to their problems.

11am, we arrived at the big house where the spiritualist resided. The house really looked like every other house in the neighborhood, though bigger in shape and size.
Just like Pamela said, there were lots of people, especially young girls waiting to be attended to. And I couldn’t help but wonder the kind of problem they were all having.

‘’I have to go book our presence’’ Pamela whispered to me as I settled down on an empty chair. She left seconds after to speak with a lady who was holding something like a register in one of the open rooms.

She returned minutes later with a smile on her face.
‘’we will have to wait some minutes for our turn’’ she said, sitting beside me.

We ended up spending close to an hour before being invited into the main room, where an old woman dressed like a devoted Muslim was seated on a mat. Pamela graciously sat before her and I equally did the same.

‘’Zainab what brings you here today?’’ the old woman asked Pamela who smiled and nodded at me.

‘’I brought my friend to see you. He wants answers’’ she replied softly. The old lady left her eyes on me for some seconds before giving me an ointment to rub on my eyes.

‘’now hold my hands and close your eyes’’ she said, offering her hands. I silently obeyed and did like she demanded. She soon started speaking in a foreign language.

In few seconds, I felt as if I was drowning. I felt as if someone was trying to rip my heart off. I really didn’t know how the woman did the trick. Perhaps it was the ointment I rubbed on my eyes that made me feel that way.

‘’your future is very much clouded, but you can still change it for good. Trust no one but her. Trust no one but her’’ the old woman breathed with a slightly raised tone, releasing my hands with great energy.
I opened my eyes to see Pamela smiling with satisfaction while the old woman’s words played back in my head.

‘’Trust no one but her. Unfortunately I couldn’t comprehend because i had two women in my life. Tracy and Pamela,

Missing Delsu student, Elozino found dead in Delta Community, tongue, breasts severed

A Delta State University Student, Elozino Ogege who was declared missing about a week ago has been found dead with her tongue and breasts severed from her body.

DAILY POST reports that Elozino is a student of the Department of Mass Communication.

Her remains was found at about 2am by residents along Ekrejeta road in Abraka Community, Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Students in the community said Elozino may have been killed by suspected ritualists who pride themselves as “Yahoo Boys”.

The Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, confirming the incident said, “The family of the girl is going through excruciating pain. They have not been informed.”

The Delta State Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Comrade Prince Kehinde-Taiga in a chat with DAILY POST said the CDHR would champion calls for the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustafa from the State if he fails to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice.


Taiga  said the rate of ritual killings, murder, kidnappings, armed robbery, rape and other social vices had increased under the watch of the CP.

Taiga who condemned the killing of the girl insisted that, “The perpetrators must be brought to book without any form of compromise. The CP must wake up from his slumber because justice must be served.”

The European Union Delegation to Nigeria and the United States of America have called on Nigeria’s security agencies to avoid actions that could jeopardise the success of next year’s general election.The warning came as campaigns for the polls officially began yesterday.

“We wish to draw particular attention to the fundamental role of the security agencies in providing a safe and secure environment for the Nigerian people to exercise their democratic rights. It is vital that security agencies act, and are seen to act, in an impartial manner that maintains the high standards of professional conduct,” said a joint statement issued in Abuja yesterday.

The Delegation and the United States said they were “gravely concerned over widespread incidents of intimidation, interference and vote buying during the recent gubernatorial elections. We were also perturbed by irregularities and violence during party primaries.” They also expressed desire for “greater participation of women, youth and people living with disabilities.”

The statement was jointly signed by various countries with missions in Nigeria including, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia and Austria. Others are: Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.

“We reiterate the importance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as it fulfills its constitutional role. INEC must be allowed to operate free from outside pressure and intimidation, and in turn, must demonstrate full neutrality and professionalism. We encourage that adequate funding is swiftly facilitated for INEC and supporting institutions, and we hope to see the entry into force of improvements to the Electoral Act as soon as possible,” the statement added.

Back home, stakeholders at the Nigerian Satire Festival at the weekend in Abuja also tasked INEC to ensure credible polls. Speaking at the event, a former chairman of the National Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, regretted: “The primary elections this year were nothing to write home about. There was no fairness and civility. There was no accountability. INEC has refused to use rules to shape behaviour and therefore it should be reorganised.”

The executive director of Centre for Transparency Advocacy, Chima Amadi, however admitted there has been improvement in INEC’s conduct of elections. “If you look at the value chain of our electoral process, the umpire we inherited in 1999 is not the same in terms of institutional duties that you have in 2018. INEC has improved. This made politicians to resort to vote buying because people have become impoverished. Unfortunately, there is not much INEC can do,” he explained.

But three months to the election, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has stirred the political waters, vowing its 8 million-strong prospective voters would cast their ballots against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari because of the “victimization of our group and continued incarceration of our leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.”

Many IMN members have been killed in confrontation with security agencies, the most recent being the October clashes in Abuja. According to the head of IMN Resource Forum, Muhammed Ibrahim Gamawa, “We will never be comfortable with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Buhari. Our sect will be voting on election day and certainly we will not vote Buhari.”

On why the group was taking the position, he said: “He (Buhari) killed us. Do you want him to come back and kill us the more? We are not comfortable with Buhari. We will vote for whoever we feel will protect our rights. We will vote for someone who will keep us alive and respect our rights to worship.”Gamawa made the disclosure when he led key officials of the sect on a courtesy visit to the Abuja Bureau of The Guardian.

While APC spokesman Lanre Issa-Onilu declined to comment, a source within the party said a way would be found around the threat, adding: “The president would be re-elected because of his good works.” But reaffirming the protest against the Buhari administration, a political support group, Coalition of Saraki Advocates for Atiku (COSAA), claimed the president failed to turn Nigeria around because he surrounded himself with corrupt politicians.

The group said it has begun mobilising voters across the country and would boost the chances of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, with 36 million votes.“We are not saying Buhari should not fight corruption but he should not be selective. The time to send away APC is 2019. This should serve as a lesson that whoever fails the people by reneging on his promises would be booted out of office,” said the group’s southwest coordinator, Oba Adelusi, in Ado Ekiti, at the weekend.

The Taraba chapter of Project Save Atiku also disclosed its readiness to frustrate triumph for the APC and the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the state. Coordinator, Luka Agbu Junior, told reporters in Jalingo that Nigerians have lost confidence in the current administration. He added that the group has toured the 16 local government areas of the state and would deliver every ward to the PDP.

In preparation for the polls, the PDP urged its candidates to embrace issues-based campaigns, promote the party’s ideals, and eschew violence and acts that may heat up the polity.“We enjoin all our members, leaders, faithful and supporters to display the highest levels and examples of party discipline, decency, tolerance and be on their best behaviour, to ensure that we all embrace a credible and satisfactory campaign that will shame our detractors,” said a statement by Delta State publicity secretary Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza.

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned politicians to conduct their electioneering with decorum and avoid setting the county ablaze, PoliticsNGR has learned.

“We have no other country, let us not set it ablaze because of politics,” he told supporters of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), top party officials and government functionaries, when he kicked off his campaign for re-election in 2019, with the launch of a “Campaign Manual/Next Level document” at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, yesterday.

“I am not unmindful that the National Assembly and the presidential campaign starts today; I will implore candidates to go about the campaigns peacefully and decently.”

Buhari said his biggest ambition is to overhaul the education sector.

“Every child counts – and simply, whatever it takes to prepare our teachers, curriculum and classrooms to attain the right educational goals that grow our country will be done. We will remodel 10,000 schools every year and retain our teachers to impart science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics using coding, animation, robotics to reinterpret our curriculum.”

He described corruption as an existential threat to Nigeria.

“Despite the gains we have made in closing the gates, we know that there is still much ground to cover to stop the systemic corruption. We are committed to deepening the work we started this first term such that the nation’s assets and resources continue to be organised and utilised to do good for the common man.

“The next four years will be quite significant for our country. Nigeria is faced with a choice to keep building a new Nigeria – making a break from its tainted past, which favoured an opportunistic few.

“Our choices will shape us – our economic security and our future prosperity. Nigeria, more than ever before, needs a stable and people-focused government to move the agenda for our country forward.”

Buhari also stated that his administration has delivered on its three campaign promises of fighting corruption, insecurity and revamping the economy.

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in this interview on Arise TV, monitored by TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, speaks on the chances of President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming presidential election, controversy on Minimum Wage, solution to crisis in some states and other issues. Excerpts:

Some foreign commentators are predicting doom for your party and President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, how optimistic are you of victory?

In all honesty, it is strange that it is foreigners who are crying more than the bereaved. I also heard Nigerians saying pension benefits that have not been paid for twenty years under the PDP; they are being paid now by this government. I have heard the Head of Service say for the 16 years of PDP, there were promotions that were delayed but that through the intervention of this government, we begin to settle these huge arrears and promotions. People talk about the huge amount of money PDP spent on power. The taller they spent, the more darkness Nigeria found itself in. For me, there are people who find joy in quoting foreign sources, I like to talk about Nigeria people and they are our primary constituency. They are the ones that hired Mr. President. I am not accountable to financial intelligence and everybody is aware that some of these papers don’t have the reputation they claim to have. After all, these are the same institutions that wrote lavishly about Nigeria banking system but few weeks later that some of these banks were empty.

I think we have done couple of things that will form the basis of our campaign. This is the only government that gives bail-out money to state governments to enable them meet their most basic responsibilities without bothering whether they are APC, PDP or APGA. I don’t know any government before now that was just fair and just regardless of political party affiliation. These are things we should be talking about. We had governments that spent billions doing ground breaking ceremony for the Second River Niger Bridge, but this government as we speak is not doing ground breaking, it is actually constructing the Second Niger bridge. These are things we want to talk about. Secondly, there are couple of things the Federal government is doing in Lagos, Ibadan and other parts of the country; these are things I think we should talk about. It is not the views of sometimes hired foreign commentators. These people are not superior to the Nigerian journalist. These are things we must discuss. If the opposition does not want to do that, we will do that. In any case, we have moved the government from one that service the elites to one that looks at the forgotten majority of Nigerians, the voiceless. I think very soon, we will begin to talk what this government has done and who has benefited and how the previous government converted private debts to public liabilities and privatised public funds to private pockets. And of course, we are going to get people who are knowledgeable about micro economy issues to assist Nigerians to understand that there is always a time lag between when certain policies are put in place, when certain mismanagement occur and when the impact of those mismanagement begins to occur in the lives of the people. For me, these are the issues that I want to talk about. We must consciously begin to discuss issues, policy issues, security issues and all of that.

How has the government fared in addressing the insecurity challenge in the country and other crimes?

The truth is that new forms of insecurity are manifesting around the world. That will be a more holistic appraisal of the security situation around the world. But I need to remind you that I was a member of the National Council of state as governor of Edo state and then President called us for a meeting and paraded the service chiefs who admitted that 28 or more Local Government are being controlled by Boko Haram. And on account of the level of insecurity the military chiefs submitted that they were not in a position to guarantee the conduct of a general election. Based on that, elections were postponed. But today, Boko Haram have been severely weakened, the much talked about mystery at the Sambisa Forest have been demystified and the Nigeria Armed Forces have made a bold statement. And you will recall that under the previous government, a lot of our young men were sentenced to death for running away from battle and of course the money voted for them were stolen by the Generals that were supposed to provide leadership. But today those are history. As we speak, there is no Local Government in Nigeria that is under the control of militants as it was before, of course you still have pockets of strikes here and there but for all of us who are familiar with insurgency, you know that it is not something you wipe out overnight. Even in Europe, America with all its powers, couple of times they suffer some embarrassment when terrorists attack. So there can be no question that under President Buhari’s leadership, commendable progress has been made. Certainly this is not to suggest that we go home and sleep and say all is over. No, we all need to build on the progress that has been made.

Now the forms of crime that you are talking about, unfortunately you did not list them, but I guess you are talking about the level of kidnapping. Now kidnapping resurfaced under the PDP, and I was governor of Edo state. I found myself helpless at a point, some Generals were kidnapped in Edo state and the kidnappers were even threatening that they might kidnap me if I make noise. Yes, we still have a share of kidnapping but nothing of the scale that we witnessed under the previous government. Yes, we have religious extremism and so on, again, short memory, talking about Generals being Heads of State, under General Babangida, there was this Maitatsine riot in Kano and we had this huge crime in Kaduna state which the former head of state called a civilian coup. So we had these problems, the problem is that maybe we have poor documentation in terms of history, this is never to justify insecurity anywhere but just to say that it will be incorrect to suggest that no new initiative have been involved or that not much progress have been made. A lot of progress has been made but every Nigerian is entitled to a secured home, every Nigerian is entitled to go to a secured market, government must continue to be on its toes to deal with all forms of criminality. Around the world we witness every day, we hear that with all the sophistication, we still find that terrorist manage to attack in America, Europe, Turkey, everywhere around the world, and Nigeria has its own fair share. And because we represent about a quarter of the blacks in Africa in the South of the Sahara, it is not surprising that we also seem to have perhaps our own share of insecurity. But what you cannot say is to suggest that no progress has been made. I think progress has been made. We are discussing election now; nobody is going to say we are postponing election on account of insecurity. I think we must encourage government to sustain what it has started, it must provide modern facilities to our Armed Forces, they must be motivated and take advantage of those countries that are willing to collaborate having recognised that terrorism is a global problem. To encourage our men and women in uniform to do what they have to do to make the country safer and much more secured.

What is your take on the controversy surrounding the New Minimum wage?

My views are clear that payment of wages is not an act of kindness for an employer to pay the employees’ wages at the end of the month. There are provisions in our Labour act that says that you cannot delay the payment of salaries in excess of 30 days interval, which means salaries ought not to accumulate beyond 30 days. And Government decides the size of its employment but when it made the decision to employ, it has the obligation to pay. Even the Holy Bible says that the labourer is entitled to its wages. I think again, this is where President Buhari stands out clearly. He has publicly asked public sector employers; how do you sleep when you have not paid your employers for one year?. But he did not stop at lamenting it, he went on to provide the much talked about bailout fund and said please use this money to pay your workers and pay pension arrears. And even the deductions from states that was done under the PDP in the name of settling our foreign debts, they went into state treasury and they over deducted, that was done under the PDP. But under President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, even inspite of the huge financial challenges that he faces, decided that in order to assist the states to meet up with their social obligations, to begin to pay what is now referred as Paris Club refund. He has done that two, three instalments and each time the governors are told that you must use this money among other things to settle pension arrears and be up to date in the payment of salaries. But I am very proud that this President has rich conscience, he recognises that the Nigerian worker deserve his wages and that is why he has publicly lament that there are governors who have not paid salaries as at when due, whether they are PDP or APC it is immaterial. And in seeking to deal with it he has also provided support across party divide and I think that is statesmanship at its best.

As for my views on the minimum wage, I tried to deal with it as a governor. I have told my colleagues then that wage is not a burden in the society. In economics, when people work and get paid purchasing powers is enhanced and because purchasing power is enhanced producers will respond to that by seeking to produce more goods and services. And in the process they will recruit more hands. But when you don’t pay wages you create a virtuous circle, no payment of wages leading to low purchasing power. None payment of rents, compounding the problem of those who have invested in real estate, depressing the commercial life of the state and of the country. And I tried to settle this question by increasing minimum wage in Edo state to N25,000 from N18,000. I remember some people calling me to ask how will you pay it? I am on record of having paid it and as we speak, my successor in office is paying it. I do not agree with those who say Nigeria cannot afford a more realistic minimum wage. My being in government or now chairman of a party cannot change what I believe in. I believe that no nation has enough to meet the greed of leaders but nations have enough to meet basic needs of their people. The real problem in the public sector is money being stolen in the name of salaries, I found it embarrassing when we talk about ghost workers. And I ask the question who counts ghosts? It is only in Nigeria that ghosts are known. The labourer deserves its wage, the primary purpose of government is the welfare of its people. So we must pay wages as at when due.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate has floored Alhaji Atiku Abubakar the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
In an online poll created by CitizenPoll and published on their website, Buhari had 64.52 per cent of the votes with 8348, while Atiku polled only 3,241 votes, representing 25 per cent of the vote.

The Poll which featured only eight Presidential Candidates, has Mrs Oby Ezekwesili of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) trailing at the bottom with only 163 votes being 1.11 per cent of the poll as at the time of this report. In the 3rd position on the poll was Omoyele Sowore of African Action Congress (ACC) who polled 344 (2.66%), followed by Kingsley Moghalu of Young Progressive Party (YPP) with 264 votes (2.04%). Tope Dasua of the Abubdant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) polled 215 votes (1.66%) while in the 6th position as at the time of this report was Donald Duke of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 195 votes (1.51%). The seventh position was occupied by Fela Durotoye with 190 votes representing 1.47 per cent of the votes.

“Some of us were expecting a timeline of 2019 to 2023 but the policy plan is mostly made up of a six-year plan.
“The people of the South-East, South-West and South-South want a commitment from Atiku on whether or not he will spend one term in office in order to complete the slot of the North.

“We are suspecting that those who drafted the policy have a hidden agenda of two terms in office for Atiku.”
“I think our candidate is planning for the future for the country. It may not be a matter of second term ambition,’’ a member of the National Working Committee of the party said.

“Atiku has not really been categorical on whether or not he will spend one term in office. So, those raising dust on 2025 policy plan are getting agitated to know where he stands.”

Nollywood actor Jigan, was allegedly flogged by some soldiers, in the early hours of today, at 100% Bar, Elegushi beach, Lagos.

The actor and his musician friend, Jaywon, were their for the birthday celebration of their colleague, singer DannyS, when the incident occurred.

Trouble allegedly started when a member of their crew engaged in a fight and injured someone, who then reported the matter to some soldiers around.

However, Jigan and Jaywon were said to be trying to defend the attacker, with Jigan quoted as saying “don’t you know who I am?,” a statement that angered the soldiers, who then brought out their horsewhip and started flogging him.

Everything later degenerated into a state of chaos, with people fleeing and the birthday party ending abruptly.

There was pandemonium on Sunday evening (yesterday) after a lady almost killed a man after stabbing him in Sapele area of Delta state. 

The incident occurred following an undisclosed disagreement between the two as the lady identified as Onome Akpokere who lives along Oleh road, used a sharp object to stab the man through the back and nearly killed him in the process. 

The residents alerted the Ward Councillor, Mr. Lucky Edeh, who helped to rush the injured man to the hospital for immediate treatment.

The councillor also deposited N20,000 for the man's treatment before apprehending the lady responsible.

The injured man who is currently hospitalised - is said to be responding to treatment.

581 million Tramadol tablets have been intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who intensified its raid in two days. 

The NDLEA who intercepted 241 million Tramadol tablets in 11 containers, weighing 118 metric tonnes, had earlier uncovered 340 million Tramadol tablets in 12 containers on November 15 at the port.

Mr Jonah Achema, Head of Public Affairs of the agency, Mr Jonah Achema,who confirmed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, disclosed that the seizure was made at the Apapa Port in Lagos. According to him, the containers had been on the watch-list of the NDLEA since November 2017, and were taken to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for search, based on the agency’s reasonable suspicion that they contained the drug.

He further disclosed that 39 more containers that were lined up for search, as the agency strongly suspected that they contained illicit drugs.

“This brings to 581 million Tramadol tablets uncovered within two days of the search. The search is still ongoing. We shall continue tomorrow as well,” he said.

DIVINE HEALTH IS YOUR NATURE.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth (3 John 1:2).

1 Peter 2:24, talking about Jesus, says, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” Many Christians all over the world use this verse in acting their faith for healing, but did you know that this verse wasn’t written to Christians? It really doesn’t apply to the new creation, because Peter was writing essentially to the Jews who were scattered abroad (Read 1 Peter 1:1).

The new creation has the divine life, the very life of God; therefore, how could he ever be sick? However, as a spiritual babe, as one who’s still maturing in the knowledge of Christ, you may find yourself sick, and then receive healing. But the truth of the matter is, divine health is your heritage in Christ. Healing is good; it’s the children’s bread, but walking in divine health is God’s best for you; that’s the state where you don’t need healing, because you don’t get sick.

To some people, it’s not possible for someone to be perpetually healthy; they think it’s absurd, but that’s the life Jesus brought to us. That’s what His death, burial and resurrection accomplished for us. He was never sick. We didn’t read anywhere in the Bible that He needed to be healed; He lived in perfect health.

Transcend the level of needing healing from God, to living every day in divine health. This is the life of the new creation in Christ Jesus. The understanding at the babyhood stage that Jesus took your infirmities and sicknesses is good. However, beyond that is a higher level of awareness and recognition that being born again, the life of God is actually in you now; you’re a partaker of the divine nature; you have the resurrection life that’s beyond sickness and disease. This higher knowledge is what you should really study, and train yourself to live by.

CONFESSION

I live above this world and its corrupting influences. No sickness, disease or infirmity can thrive in my body, because I have the divine life—the indestructible, unconquerable life of God in my spirit! I’m conscious of my divinity and immortality in Christ Jesus. Blessed be God!

Minister of Information of Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed yesterday described the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s victory in the House of Representatives by-election in Kwara State as the breaking of the Berlin Wall of the state’s politics.

Mohammed, the APC leader in Kwara State, was alluding to the dominance of the Saraki dynasty in the state.

Speaking at his country home of Oro during a victory rally organised by APC supporters, Mohammaed said: “It was the will of the people that prevailed. God has turned the seemingly political impregnability of Saraki’s dynasty to foolishness. APC is God-ordained for this state and the country.

“With this victory you have broken the Berlin Wall and same will repeat itself in 2019 elections.”

He added: “One thing I requested from President Muhammadu Buhari before I left Abuja for the election is the provision of adequate security before, during and after the election. And the security agents discharged their duties professionally.

“This accounted for the peaceful conduct of the election. I have been participating elections in this state since 2003, this has been one the most peaceful.



“Some PDP members were peddling rumours that I was going about with security agents to intimidate opponents. There is no truth in that.”

All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Raheem Olawuyi won the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency by-election.

Returning Officer Prof. Abimbola Adesoji announced at the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Omu-Aran, that Olawuyi polled 21, 236 to defeat his closest rival Saheed Damilare of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 18, 095.

Other contestants in the election were Femi Ona-Ara of Labour Party, Ajadi Olayemi of Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) as well as Olaniyan Ayorinde of Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).

Abimbola gave the total number of registered voters as 168, 707, accredited voters as 41,185, valid votes as 39,599, rejected votes as 1, 331 and votes cast as 40,930.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some cancellations arising from snatching of ballot boxes and over voting were reportedly experienced in three polling units in Irepodun Local Government Area.

The affected units as listed by the Presiding Officer in charge of the council included Registration Area (RA) 02 of Esie-Ijan Ward where two ballot boxes were reportedly snatched and 955 number of registered voters lost.

Other areas were Oro Ward 1 RA 02, Polling Unit 01 where a case of ballot snatching was recorded and a total of 297 registered voters were affected and over voting in Oro Ward 2 RA 10 Polling Unit 01 with 474 registered votes lost.

Election cancellation was also recorded in Ile Apaasin RA 04 Polling Unit in Isin Local Government where only 59 voters were accredited but turned in 377 votes.



Some Independent National Electoral Officers were attacked and injured.

The declaration of the results was witnessed by notable officials, including the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Fafowora, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner Malam Garuba Madami as well as his Imo and Lagos counterparts, Mr Emeka Nzeonu and Mr Sam Olumekun.

Party chairman Bashir Bolarinwa, governrship candidate Abdulrazak Abdulrahman, among others, hailed the process and the victory.

Olawuyi described his victory as one for the people.

Olawuyi said the success was a sign of more victories to come for the APC in the 2019 elections

“This is a happy moment for me because we have been doing this for a long time.

“When your time has come, no one can stop you but at the same time, I give glory to God, because it is the best time Allah has created for me.

“My party believed in me to put me forward for the assignment and I thank God I have delivered,” he said.

Olawuyi, who described his party as the best in Africa, said he was never scared of the opposition because he is a grassroots politician loved by his people.

He said because of the fact that his people loved him and followed him with passion, he would always defeat his opponents in a free and fair election.

Olawuyi said the state government’s statement that the election was between the PDP and the security agencies was laughable because it was what they were used to.

He is now sure of an APC victory in the state in the 2019 general elections because of the spirit the electorate have demonstrated.

Abdulrazaq said: “This victory represents a great leap in our people’s lifelong yearning for political freedom, good governance, development, accountability and integrity.

“It is the beginning of the end for characters who have held our dear state to ransom, characters who have made Kwara and its people the butt of national jokes!

“The outcome, more than anything else, asserts the fact that our people have had enough of the status quo. They are saying enough is enough and the time to move Kwara to the next level is now.

“As we savour this well preserved victory, we therefore urge our people to not relent as we head to the general election where, God willing, we will see to the end of a status quo that represents backwardness, corruption and disdain for socioeconomic advancement of the people and the state.

“One of the secrets of our success in this by-election is the suppression and almost total eradication of criminals and armed thugs hitherto used in rigging elections in Kwara. Kwarans will never forget the 31 lives lost in the Offa robbery; we will ensure that their lives were not lost in vain.

“We thank the security agencies for their efficiency and disciplined discharge of duties.

“We thank the electoral commission for conducting a free and fair election and resisting desperate attempts to subvert the rules and manipulate the poll. We urge these government agencies to keep up the good work.”

The issues, according to ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, include the payment of fractions and non-payment of salaries, earned academic allowances, non-release of operational license of NUPEMCO, non-implementation of the provisions of the 2014 Pension Reform Act with respect to retired professors and their salaries, and exclusion of university staff schools from funding by government.

Other demands are funding for the revitalisation of public universities that entails implementation of Needs Assessment Report and addressing poor funding of state universities and proliferation of universities by their Visitors.

4.The exemption offered by the government regarding the issue of TSA, which included the issue of grants, endowment funds as well as salary shortfall, which is already being implemented by the government.

5.The union also promised to submit a position paper to the Federal Government on their observation with a view for government to advise state governments.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the nomination of Governor Among Waziri Tambuwal as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Sokoto State in respect of the 2019 election.

The emergence of Tambuwal as the governorship candidate followed the substitution of Manir Muhammad Dan’iya whose name was previously submitted as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education, INEC, Mr Festus Okoye who disclosed this in an exclusive chat with Sunday Telegraph also said that by the substitution, Manir Mohammad Dan’Iya is now the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP for Sokoto State.

Okoye recalled that as at the close of nominations for the Governorship and State Assembly Elections, the leadership of the PDP forwarded the name of Dan’Iya as the governorship candidate but that the party had just taken advantage of the substitution window to field Tambuwal, the incumbent governor of the State. “
Now, as you are aware, by the provisions of Section 35 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), a candidate validly nominated by a political party may withdraw his candidature by a notice in writing, signed by him and delivered by himself to the political party that nominated him for the election and such a political party shall convey his withdrawal to the INEC.

“So it is the responsibility of political parties to nominate candidates for elections but such a party can withdraw a candidate properly nominated, if the candidate withdraws his candidature by a notice in writing signed by himself and delivered to the political party that nominated him.

“As at yesterday (Friday), the PDP carried out a substitution in relation to their governorship candidate for Sokoto State. They have now nominated Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as the governorship candidate of the PDP for Sokoto State,” Okoye said.

A lady accused of being a kidnapper was humiliated by an angry crowd after she was reportedly caught trying to steal a new born baby in Anambra state.

The incident caused a huge scene in Okpoko, Onitsha area of the state, after the alleged kidnapper was nabbed by the residents while 'trying to kidnap a baby from a teenage girl'.

It was reported that the lady claimed she had discussed and agreed with the teenager who gave birth out of wedlock that she will buy the baby from her.. The lady said the agreement was made when the girl was 7 months pregnant.

The angry residents who didn't believe her story, later handed her to the authorities after disgracing her and forcing her to roll in a muddy water.

The former Vice President decided on Saturday amid a gathering with his supporters upon come back to his home state. 

Amid the association, Umaru Fintiri, the PDP governorship candidate for Adamawa was exhibited to the electorate. 

He approached the general population of North East to remove the APC out of the region. 

He said the people of the North East had a chance to regain political prominence in the country by voting his party, the PDP in the 2019 general elections from bottom to the top.

Abubakar said, “We thank God for this home coming which has afforded me the opportunity to make this reunion since my emergence as the Presidential candidate of the PDP. It is no longer news that I emerged the Presidential candidate of our party – the PDP at the Port Harcourt convention.

“It is not just my desire that the people of North East gain prominence again but it’s a sacred duty that the people must root out the APC completely from the bottom to the top.

“We have that chance to choose the PDP and be in front. I am a son of the North East, I have returned to thank the people of Adamawa and the entire North East, for our feat in Port Harcourt.

“I want to appeal that you vote out the APC from the region by ensuring that from the Presidency down to the states you elect only the PDP. From bottom to the top l want the PDP to be in control as far as this zone is concerned.”

The Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress of dividing Nigerians and their families .
The Publicity Secretary of the PDP , Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, said Buhari had exhibited his alleged divisive tendency in his appointments, adding that the President did not have the required strength to carry Nigerians along and offer quality leadership as well as good governance .
He spoke in Abuja while answering questions from journalists on the sidelines of a visit by Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria led by its President , Mr James Emeh .
According to the PDP spokesperson, the presidential candidate of the PDP , Atiku Abubakar, is a ‘ unifier’ and has been accepted across the country.
He said , “ Our party is a unifier and we have brought a candidate that is known and accepted across the federation as a unifier . Our neighbours , the APC, and its presidential candidate is known for divisive tendencies either in terms of appointment or choice of friends . But whichever way you access him, you will find out that he does not have the required strength across the country.”
Ologbondiyan also accused the APC of dividing the family of former President Olusegun Obasanjo .
He alleged that the APC had induced a family member of Obasanjo to speak against the former president because he was now supporting the PDP and Atiku.
He said , “ The most unfortunate thing that is manifesting in the 2019 campaign on the side of Mr President and his party is that they are now going into individual families and creating divisions . For instance, in 2014 and 2015 , former President Olusegun Obasanjo supported President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC; at no point in the history of 2014 and 2015 election did the APC go into his family to cause any division . Just because President Olusegun Obasanjo is not supporting the APC today , they are beginning to induce the member of his family to come out and speak against him.”
The PDP spokesperson also urged the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to clear his name of many corruption allegations levelled against him.
He also said Oshiomhole ’ s alleged accusation of the PDP as party with disharmony was uncalled for , adding that the PDP had been accepted by Nigerians.
Ologbondiyan said, “There are issues bordering on corruption concerning him ( Oshiomhole ) . There is a gentleman from his home state who is in court seeking an order of mandamus to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the chairman of the APC on corruption issues. So , an upright man will work up to the EFCC and say ‘ investigate me.’ Until he does that , the PDP with our candidate that has been accepted in Nigeria is not prepared to engage in frivolous discussions of division or disharmony. Those are the attributes of the APC. Those are the things the APC and its candidate are known for , causing division in families; causing division across the nation; and creating disharmony among states.
“That is what the PDP is not known for . We are a party that unites this nation . We have a candidate that is accepted in the North-West, South- West; we have a candidate that is at home in the South- East and North-East . We have a candidate that Nigerians are rallying in the North-Central and South- South. We have a candidate who understands the nuances of Nigerians, and who is ready to spend his time to provide jobs for the youth and the generation that is coming after us. ”
