I Only Killed One Person, Blinded Another, Says Suspected Cult Leader

The Osun State Police Command, on Thursday, paraded three suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity, whom it accused of causing the death of many rival cult members and members of the public.

The suspects are Afeez Alade aka Esubiyi; Seyi Adesoji and Sodiq Olatunde.

Parading the suspect before journalists, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, said the 28-year-old Alade was arrested after several months of trailing him.

He said the suspect was arrested at the Jaleyemi area of Osogbo during a stop and search operation by the police on December 6, 2018.

Responding to questions from journalists, Alade said he stayed away from criminal activities after he got married in 2016, adding that he was caught when he came to return a gun belonging to the Eiye group that was in his custody.

He stated,

Quote:“I joined the Eiye Confraternity in 2009 while in school, where I studied accounting. I became notorious after I was shot and inflicted with machete cuts in different parts of my body by the rival cult members. I was supposed to forgive but I didn’t do that.

“My rank in the Eiye Confraternity is called ‘Dove’. I am the number eight in my group. I didn’t kill many people. I only killed Bode. Bode belonged to Axe Confraternity. I shot him during a fight between my group and his group. He didn’t die immediately; I was told he died later.

“I also shot one member of the Axe Confraternity. I shot him in the eye and the gunshot blinded him. After I did all that, I got married in 2016 and I left Osun State.

“I stayed in Lagos with my family and I was no longer involved in the activities of my group. But in December last year, members of my group started calling that I should return their gun. I was in Osogbo that evening to return the gun when I was caught.

“I deserve whatever my judgement is, but I advise youths not to join cult groups; it is a world of deception. I pray for mercy. If God can spare me, I will never get involved in criminal activities again.”

We Didn’t Deny PDP Use Of Stadium – Kogi Govt
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-04-2019, 11:13 AM - No Replies

The Kogi State Government has dismissed as “routine fiction”, claims by the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP ) that the party was denied the use of the Confluence Stadium for its presidential campaigns slated for Monday 7th January, 2019.

Reacting to the claim in Lokoja, on Thursday night, the Director General of Media and Strategy to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo said the Government of Kogi State knows when to draw “partisan lines” and that the Stadium belongs to all Kogi people regardless of political affiliations.

According to the Governor’s spokesperson, PDP’s claim was capable of portraying the State Government in bad light, urging the opposition party not to mislead the public.

“The claim by the PDP spokesperson, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan that the State Government denied the party of the use of the Confluence Stadium for its Presidential Campaign is false, misleading and a deliberate attempt at portraying the State Government in bad light.

“The fact here is that the State Government had approved the use of the Stadium and directed the Secretary to the State Government to communicate same to the party. As I speak to you here, the DG of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council in the State, Rt. Hon. Clarence Olafemi is in possession of the approval letter.

“Mr Ologbondiyan‘s allegation is an embarrassment to the Government and people of Kogi State. I know he is an honourable man and that he will apologize to the good people of his state for the false claims. To claim denial of the use should ordinarily mean that their was an official communication to the effect of the alleged denial.

“It is important to clarify this to enlighten the public before they are misled again. We have a good relationship with Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan who was a part of the Inauguration Team of our Administration. I would have ordinarily expected him to get across to us to know the true situation before misrepresenting the facts of the matter to the general public.

“Governor Yahaya Bello is an honourable man and a statesman who will never involve himself in dirty politics. We wish the PDP a successful rally in the State,” he noted.

He said Governor Bello was prepared to guarantee the freedom of all parties to campaign in the state, urging politicians to avoid fake news that could heat up the political landscape.

Shehu Sani: Why I Should Be Re-elected Kaduna Central Senator
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-04-2019, 11:07 AM - No Replies

Quote:Shehu Sani, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the Senate has given reasons why he should be re-elected.

Mr Sani, a fierce critic of his state governor, Nasir El-rufai, is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

The Senator who went to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) defected to the PRP when he could not clinch the ticket of the ruling party, largely because of his political battle with Mr El-rufai.

The governor had thwarted the lawmaker’s bid to secured the ticket of the APC after he was assured by the national leadership of the party that he was their flag-bearer.

Addressing members of the Igbo Youth Peace and Unity Initiative in Kaduna on Wednesday evening, the Senator said he deserved to be re-elected because he is not a stooge to anyone and has the interest of the masses at heart.

“They want the seat of Shehu Sani in order to continue to enslave you. We are moving out of Egypt. Those people in power in Kaduna state represent the wall of Jerico that has to be pulled down,” the lawmaker said.

“I am here seeking for your votes, support and prayers that we must not allow any stooge to take over the Kaduna central senatorial seat. If the governor of this state wants to compensate his boy, he should find a job for him, but not the Kaduna central senatorial seat.

“Kaduna central seat is not for sale, is not for a running dog, not for a puppy, is not for a puppet and is not for a hand bag boy. When you re-elect us into office, you are re-electing politics of principle, courage, bravery and value. You should not elect people who will go and do the bidding of their godfathers.

“Elect people who will do the bidding of the poor, the down trodden, the traders, the artisan, the mechanic, civil servants and the beggars in the street. It is unfortunate that our country, a very blessed one, but the leaders have identified with negative activities and evil actions,” Sani said.

He criticized the APC-led federal government urging the people to vote out the ruling party for failing to tackle the challenges bedeviling the nation.

“From the killings in Zamfara to Birnin Gwari, the killings in the north-east part of Nigeria and north central, of herdsmen,” the Senator said.

“We have a duty to send a clear message to the leadership of the country that we can show you the way out just as the previous government was shown the way out of power.

“We must not deceive ourselves, we must tell ourselves the truth, the nation is sick, the state is sick. Nigerians expected a better deal than what we are having today. People who begged you three and half years ago to vote them have turned themselves to demi gods.

“We have seen how poverty has ravaged the lives of Nigerians in the last three and half years, we have seen the killings, the level of bloodshed and violence, we have seen the division, the hopelessness, we have seen how a governor of a state have sacked thousands of people out of their work,” he added.

ASUU Strike: Lecturers Speak On Being Distracted By 2019 Election
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-04-2019, 11:01 AM - No Replies

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday, declared that it would not be distracted by the 2019 elections in its struggle to revitalise public universities.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Prof. Yakub Mahmood, had said that the planned ASUU strike might affect the 2019 general election.

The Chairman of ASUU, University of Ibadan (UI), Dr Deji Omole, spoke on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Ibadan.

Omole said that the union was ready to pursue the strike to a logical conclusion irrespective of whether there would be election or not.

He added that INEC could recruit ad-hoc staff from eligible Nigerians “who are in their millions’.’

“We are not part of INEC, therefore, INEC can look elsewhere for ad-hoc staff to conduct the election.

“What Nigerians are only interested in is credible election and not participation of lecturers.

“Even when we were not on strike, not all our members are interested in participating in the elections, because it is a voluntary thing.

“Whoever that feels like participating in the elections can go ahead to participate.

“If you check in the letter addressed to individuals that have participated in the election in the past, the letter is addressed to individuals and not to ASUU,” UI ASUU Chairman said.

He said that the demand of the union that the MoU of 2017 be implemented was sacrosanct. Omole said that once the union saw the commitment of government, the leadership would bring it back to them at chapters, where it would be taken to their congresses and redirect to national for necessary action.

The UI ASUU chairman urged Nigerians to continue to put pressure on government to do the needful by investing more in funding education. He said that private education was not an alternative to public schools and called on all Nigerians to support the strike to salvage the university system in Nigeria.

Ezekwesili Reacts As INEC Names Buhari’s Niece Official To Announce Presidential

The presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has kicked against the appointment of Amina Zakari as head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre for the elections.

DAILY POST had reported that by her new appointment, Zakari, who was once the Commission’s Director of Operations, will be responsible for announcing the result of the presidential election.

Reacting, Ezekwesili, on her Twitter Page, condemned Zakari’s appointment.

According to her, there would be grave consequences.

She said, “It is now quite obvious that the @inecnigeria Chairman is making decisions that cannot at all be INDEPENDENT. How in the world can @inecnigeria appoint Amina Zakari – niece of @MBuhari – as its Head of Collation Center? Are the INEC Chairman &President ready for the grave consequence?”

Surrender To Police, Falana Advises Senator Dino Melaye
User Avatar Forum: News

HUMAN rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, yesterday, called on the lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Senator Dino Melaye to end the siege by submitting himself for arrest without any further delay.

He, however, cautioned the Police to conduct Melaye’s arrest, investigation and prosecution in strict compliance with the relevant provisions of the penal statutes and the Constitution.

In a statement Falana flayed the Police for the sensationalization of the planned arrest of the Senator.

His words: “The fundamental right of every citizen to personal liberty is guaranteed by section 35 of the Constitution of Nigeria and article 6 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights. The right may however be violated by the State if there is reasonable suspicion that any citizen has committed a criminal offence. The Nigeria Police Force recently announced its plan to arrest Senator Dino on the allegation that he has committed the offences of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide. The Senator did not respond to the invitation of the Police on the grounds that the permission of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki was not sought and obtained.

“Convinced that the Senator has decided not to submit himself for investigation, a team of police personnel have surrounded his residence with a view to effecting his arrest. The siege to the house by the Police has needlessly lasted for 6 days. It has been reported that the supply of electricity and water to the house has been disconnected by the Police. Such action cannot be justified in law. There is no doubt that the Nigeria Police Force has itself to blame for the sensational planned arrest of the Senator.

”The Police ought to have affected the arrest of the Senator under the relevant provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 which empower the Police and other law enforcement to break into any house to arrest if there is evidence that any criminal suspect against whom a warrant of arrest has been issued by any court has absconded or is concealing himself or herself so that the warrant cannot be executed.”

NAF Helicopter Crash: "Marriage to a soldier is the greatest sacrifice of life"- Lance Corporal Adamu Nura celebrated wives of military men same day he died

Lance Corporal Adamu Nura, is one of the 5 crew members on board the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Mi-35M Helicopter which crashed in combat on 2 January 2019, while providing close air support to troops of 145 Battalion, Damasak in Borno State.

Hours before his death, the deceased personnel, took to Facebook to celebrate his wife and other women married to military men. Read his last Facebook post on January 2nd.

Quote:"MY WIFE! MY LOVE!! MY QUEEN!!!
I salute you.
My man of the year goes to all the WIVES of our soldiers who stay home alone and lonely while their husbands suffer in the dangerous field of war zones.

Marriage to a soldier is the greatest sacrifice of life. Any woman who marries a soldier can do anything for love. She knows the uncertainty of her marriage but because of her patriotic and true love, she reached a vow to a soldier.

Any woman married to a soldier should be celebrated and appreciated. Her husband is not hers alone but for the nation. A soldier can spend a whole year without seeing his wife or family and the diligent woman would remain faithful to the union.

In a sane clime, special considerations would have been given to wives of soldiers but here we look away as if their condition matters not. Where ever you are today, stand erect and show respect to the wives of our gallant men.

God shall bring your sacrificial men back home safe and healthy. We appreciate your support at the home front. For those whose husbands are no more, God shall send your helpers.

God bless the WIVES of our soldiers.

Appreciatively musing

The Lagos state police command has arrested an Islamic cleric aka Alfa, Abdulsalam Salaudeen, 43, who was caught on camera having anal sex with a five-year-old girl that he was supposed to be teaching Islamic studies.

A statement released by the command's spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti, says the  dastard act was reported to the command by a good samaritan who secretly recorded the Alfa abusing the child. The video was presented to the state Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi, who after watching the heart-rending video, directed the command's undercover operatives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau to immediately arrest the culprit and hand him over to the Gender Section for detailed investigation.

The operatives went in search of the Alfa and arrested him near a mosque in the Igando area of the state.

He was taken from there to the Gender Unit, where the Officer-in-Charge, ASP (Mrs) Abimbola Williams, confronted him with the video of him defiling the child by penetrating her anus and private parts.

On seeing himself captured like an actor in a movie, the suspect broke down in tears and owned up to the crime. He told the investigators that he resides at 16, Awoyemi Street, Igando Road, Ikotun, Lagos.

The case will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

The CP, while commending the courageous act of the good Nigerian, has warned parents and guardians to keep constant watch over their children and wards. Imohimi stressed that n0obody should be trusted and that parents should endeavour to be friends with their children and let them be free to share things with you.

Buhari Yet To Make Up His Mind Over Presidential Debate — Presidency
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-04-2019, 09:14 AM - No Replies

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

With less than three weeks to the presidential debate, President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to take a decision on whether he would take part in the debate slated for January 19 by the Nigeria Election Debate Group.

There has been speculation that the president would be represented by his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, a position which has been rejected by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking with Daily Independent on Thursday, Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, said the president was yet to make up his mind on whether or not to appear at the debate.

He said Nigerians would be informed in due course when the president takes decision on this.

“When it gets to that decision, Nigerians will know what his decision is. We will surely cross the bridge when we get there,” he said.

However, the PDP, in its reaction, said its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was ready to debate with President Buhari in any location he chooses, even if it was inside Aso Villa.

Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said the PDP would also not accept the idea of the president sending a representative to stand for him at the debate.

According to him, if the president was present during the signing of the peace accord convened by the National Peace Committee under the chairmanship of the former head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar, two weeks ago, he should also attend the debate where he would reel out his achievements and tell Nigerians why they should vote him for another term.

“President Buhari must participate at the debate. It is he that our candidate, Atiku Abubakar, wants to debate with.

“So, it matters to us that he attends the debate and not send in a representative. We are insisting that President Buhari must come in person.

“Those saying he needs not attend the debate are running away from reality. We are ready to debate with him even inside Aso Villa.

“Wherever he chooses, we will meet him there and debate with him. Our own is that he should come out personally for the debate and not send in a representative.

“The organisers of the debate know the reason why they set it up and they have invited him and other presidential candidates.

“If he can attend the Peace Pact, then he should be able to attend the presidential debate where he will tell Nigerians his achievements so far and why they must vote for him for another term in office,” he said.

It would be recalled that Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), on Wednesday said Vice President Yemi Osinbajo could represent President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential debate if that was what the Federal Government wanted.

Speaking with Daily Independent, Sagay said the debate was not about eloquence but what the political parties had to offer the country if elected.

2019: PDP Reacts As INEC Names Buhari’s Niece, Amina Zakari Official To Announce
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-04-2019, 09:08 AM - Replies (2)

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday reacted as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, appointed President Muhammadu Buhari’s niece, Amina Zakari as its head of Collation Center for the 2019 elections.

By her new appointment, Zakari, who was once the Commission’s Director of Operations, will be responsible for announcing the result of the presidential election.

Reacting to her appointment, PDP reiterated its recent claim that President Muhammadu Buhari was determined to rig himself back into power, hence the appointment of Zakari.

In a press statement issued by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, the former ruling party said: “We have called you up again today to alert Nigerians of another heinous machination by the Buhari Presidency and
the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to subvert the will of the people and rig the February 16, Presidential election.

“You will recall that we have been raising the flag on how the Buhari Presidency, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and some individuals at the echelon of INEC have been seeking ways to compromise our electoral
processes and open the way for the allocation of fictitious votes to President Muhammadu Buhari, having realized that he cannot win in a credible, free and fair polls.

“Today, we have been informed that the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, apparently in furtherance of the plots to rig the Presidential election, has appointed Mrs. Amina Zakari, a blood relation (niece) of
the APC candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, as the Chairperson of INEC Advisory Committee and Presidential election Collation Center
Committee.

“The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization (PPCO) outrightly, vehemently and unequivocally rejects, in its entirety, the
appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari, President Buhari’s blood relation, as the head of the collation of results, in the same election in which his
uncle, President Buhari, as a candidate, has displayed a huge desperation to win.

“The appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari, who had been openly accused in various quarters as being the link person between INEC and the Buhari
Presidency in their schemes to rig the election for President Buhari, constitutes a direct violence against the Presidential election and the PDP will not, in any way, whatsoever, accept it.

“This is the same Amina Zakari, who headed the ICT Department of INEC at the time that department was accused of manipulating the INEC voter register to accommodate fictitious, underage and alien voters,
particularly, in remote areas where they plan to allocate and announce conjured votes for President Buhari and the APC.

“It will interest Nigerians to note that this is the same Amina Zakari that was alleged to have played some roles in the 2018 governorship election in Osun state, where the electoral processes were flagrantly
abused.

“In appointing Mrs. Amina Zakari to head the collation of this Presidential election, Prof. Yakubu has confirmed that he has been compromised and that he has already succumbed to pressure by the Buhari Presidency and APC to open the way for the self-succession of President
Buhari.

“The fact remains that there is no way Amina Zakari will not allocate votes to her blood relation, President Buhari, whom Nigerians have indicated clearly that they are not ready to return to office as President.

“With Amina Zakari at the head of results collation, there is no way votes cast by Nigerians will count.

“We, therefore, call on all Nigerians and particularly the National Peace Committee to note that with the appointment of Amina Zakari, as head the
collation of Presidential results, the INEC Chairman is setting the stage for a very huge political crisis, which is capable of derailing our democratic process.

“We also urge the United Nations and other global democratic institutions to take copious note of this noxious appointment by the INEC Chairman.

“If the INEC Chairman wants a peaceful Presidential election, he should, with the speed of light, reverse himself on this appointment.

“In fact, the PPCO reiterates its position that for us to have a peaceful election, Mrs. Amina Zakari should not be seen anywhere near any of the 2019 election processes, not to talk of being involved in the collation
of Presidential results.”

PDP, however, assured that it remained “committed to a peaceful and credible process, but we will never, in any way, allow anybody to use any means, under any guise
whatsoever, to rig us out in this election. Not after it is clear that Nigerians have attained a consensus to rally behind our Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as their next President.

“All we ask for is a free, fair, credible and transparent electoral process in which the votes of Nigerians will not only count but will be seen to have counted.

“Like Mr. President said during his 2019 budget presentation at the National Assembly, the world is watching us,” the statement added.

Morning Devotional For Friday 4th January
User Avatar Forum: Daily Devotions

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

FRIDAY, 4TH JANUARY.

BUILT FOR TOUGH TIMES.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

There’s no hopelessness for a child of God. It doesn’t matter what you’ve faced or are facing in your life; the challenges aren’t for your destruction. Not many know this; hence, they faint in the face of adversity.

We’re built for tough times. 2 Corinthians 4:17 says, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” Therefore, face tough times and win. The troubles you face are for your testimonies. In Isaiah 43:2, the Lord said, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” It makes no difference what comes against you; you’re more than a conqueror.

Perhaps, you’re in debt, and all your creditors are after you, and it looks like there’s no help in sight; don’t give up. God has a plan for your life. You’ll settle your creditors; keep your faith alive. Refuse to allow depressing thoughts. God is bigger—far bigger—than whatever amount you owe as debt.

Maybe you’ve been handed an unpleasant doctor’s report; trust the Name of Jesus! Irrespective of the pain or symptoms, keep declaring, “I know I’m healed; my body is vitalized by the Holy Ghost who lives in me!” There’s someone living inside you that makes you indomitable; no matter what you face, you win.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9 says, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed”; why? The answer is in the preceding verse 7: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I lay hold on eternal life! I have prevailing faith. No matter what I face, all things work together for my good, according to the Word of God. I’m what God says I am; I have what He says I have, and I can do what He says I can do. Glory to God!

FURTHER STUDY:

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

#TALKINGSESSION

4TH JANUARY.

KINDLY SAY THIS WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Father, I thank you for qualifying me to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in light. My understanding is enlightened today, to comprehend and apprehend my next level of glory, progress, and prosperity; I am waxing great, making progress and growing exceedingly in divine

wisdom. I declare that irrespective of what I perceive with my physical senses, I am living in the spiritual realities of our divine kingdom. I experience divine health, absolute prosperity, unending success, abundant joy and indescribable peace, all through 2019 and beyond, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

Obasanjo: My Role In Nigerian Politics Is To Raise Alarm
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-04-2019, 01:39 AM - No Replies

Quote:Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former president, has stated his role in the nation’s politics.

The former president quitted partisan politics in the country when he dumped the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) tearing his membership card in the process.

Prior to the 2015 general election, he pitched his tent with Muhammadu Buhari, then opposition candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The APC flag-bearer after the endorsement of the former president won the election but the duo has fell out politically due to the second term ambition of the president.

Last year, the former president advised Mr Buhari to shelve his re-election bid due to alleged incompetence. The president has since dumped the advise in a trash can and went on to actualize his ambition.

Despite his acclaimed stance, Obasanjo has publicly endorsed Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP to battle it out with the president.

Addressing Yabaji Sani, presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and his team when they paid him a visit on Thursday at Abeokuta, Mr Obasanjo said his role in the country’s politics is to raise alarm when events turn around in the way they ought not be.

“It is undemocratic, the attitude of some politicians who heat up the polity by undermining and denigrating other Nigerians through thuggery and harassment of innocent citizens,” Obasanjo was quoted in a statement by Pam Ibrahim, Director of Media and Publicity of Sani’s Campaign team, as saying.

“My role in Nigerian politics would be that of a watchman who is expected to be vigilant and raise an alarm whenever it is necessary,” he said.

Speaking earlier, Mr Sani while urging Nigerians to vote for him and his party said he is in the race because of bad leadership of previous administration particularly in the areas of security.

“We are in a country where the security of citizens is no longer guaranteed giving the crime rate we experience on a daily basis, especially insurgency, armed robbery and kidnappings across the country”, he said.

2019 Presidency: Atiku Cries Out Over Inec’s Decision To Use Incident Forms
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-04-2019, 01:31 AM - No Replies

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to adhere to its promise not to use incident forms for the 2019 general election.

Abubakar, in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe on Thursday in Abuja, said that he was worried about reports contrary to promises made by INEC that it would not use the incident forms.

He said that any change in the decision by INEC to reverse to use of incident forms was unacceptable to the PDP and to him.

According to him, any decision to use incident forms in the Feb. 16 election is to encourage rigging.

Abubakar said that data from the 2015 elections showed that 75 per cent of the almost 14 million people who voted without biometric accreditation in 2015 were linked to President Muhammadu Buhari.

“There are no reliable and accurate means of knowing who those voters were and whether they were genuine voters or sham voters.

“This disproportionate number of voters who voted without biometric accreditation in 2015 affected the integrity of those elections and we hold the INEC to its oft-repeated promise not to use anything but the Smart Card Readers and PVCs for the 2019 elections,’’ he said.

Abubakar said that the commission should remember that the world was watching and that Nigerians were alert to see if the present Chairman and board of INEC would place national interest above narrow interest.

He reminded the Chairman of the INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, of his promise to Nigerians at the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room National Stakeholders’ Forum on Elections which held in Abuja on Dec.10.

He said that Yakubu, at the event, assured Nigerians that the smart card reader had become an integral part of the electoral process and would be deployed for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

Abubakar said that at ₦143 billion, it was safe to say that more than enough funds were appropriated for the INEC to acquire and distribute Smart Card Readers, hence no reason for change of decision.

He said that the job of the INEC was to give Nigerians a level playing field and also conduct an election that reflects the will of the people.

“We once again want to sound the alarm that only the strict use of Smart Card Readers and Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) can guarantee free, fair and credible elections that will be accepted by Nigerians and the international community,’’ he said

Ahmed Kuru In Trouble Over Keystone Bank Acquisition By Father-in-law-TheCapital
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-04-2019, 01:26 AM - No Replies

Why Bank Customers Are Making Panic Withdrawals…

Following the controversy generated by the leading opposition party, the People’s Democratic party, PDP, over the alleged acquisition of Keystone bank and Etisalat by Alhaji Isa Funtua and the CEO of AMCON, Ahmed Kuru, President Mhammadu Buhari has ordered probe into the alleged fraud.

A highly placed source at the headquarters of the Economic and financial crimes Commission, EFCC yesterday told daybreak that the President was thoroughly embarrassed with the allegations linking him to the transactions.

According to the source, a discrete panel will be set up soon comprising of the Chairman of the EFCC, representative of the DSS, ICPC, federal ministry of Justice to look into the allegations.

The source further added that, both Isa Funtua, Ahmed Kuru, the governor of the central bank of Nigeria, CBN, Chief Godwin Emefiele and management Staff of the Keystone Bank and 9Mobile will be quizzed by the operatives of the EFCC for some interactions.

Recently, a mindboggling scandal broke out to public knowledge about how Keystone Bank and 9Mobile were acquired in controversial circumstances by the business interests of one Alhaji Isa Funtua, a close friend of President Muhammadu Buhari, via the instrumentality of Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

The PDP challenged the federal government to come out clean on what could be a serious dent on its anti-corruption stance, there is indeed no smoke without fire.

The leading opposition party also confirmed fact that the son-in-law of Isa Funtua, Ahmed Kuru, is the current CEO of AMCON.

Before him, the previous CEO, Chike Obi, was a first-class gentleman and technocrat who was strangely removed from office before the expiration of his term and was replaced with Kuru, the son-in-law of Isa Funtua.

Now, let us get into the insider details of how Funtua bought Keystone Bank and 9Mobile in the most bizarre of dealings that circumvent the laws of the land. Keystone Bank was sold by the current CEO of AMCON to his father-in-law, Funtua, without any AMCON Board’s approval and with the active connivance of CBN and NDIC at a grossly undervalued price of 25 Billion Naira. To put things in context, let us recall that Enterprise Bank was sold for over 60 Billion Naira and Mainstreet Bank was sold for over 100 Billion Naira under the former CEO of AMCON.

Before the sale of Keystone Bank to Isa Funtua, all bad debts in the books of the Bank were taken over by AMCON. So, it was a clean Bank with all the Assets and no Liabilities that was sold to the Buyers.

The Executive Management of AMCON was coerced into approving the transaction and those who were willing to submit a much higher bid were disqualified under a most opaque, suspicious process that lacks all transparency. The process was just manipulated in favour of the father-in-law of the AMCON CEO.

The Corrupt Payment for Keystone Bank The most disgusting part of the entire sale of Keystone Bank is how the 25 Billion Naira sales price was paid to AMCON.

The Isa Funtua Team paid 5 Billion Naira to AMCON, and then the balance of 20 Billion Naira was later paid through the most criminal and corrupt approach ever perpetrated by AMCON in favour of the Buyer. What happened was that AMCON moved 20 Billion Naira of their own funds as a fixed deposit at GTBank to Heritage Bank. Heritage Bank then paid the 20 Billion Naira on behalf of the Funtua Group to AMCON. In other words, AMCON used their own funds as a collateral for a loan to the Funtua Group for 20 Billion Naira!

When the Funtua Group took over Keystone Bank, they went borrowing immediately at the Interbank Market for 20 Billion Naira to refund AMCON’s funds. This has left a hole in Keystone Bank’s Balance Sheet and makes the Bank one of the most undercapitalized Banks in the Country as at today. The evidence of this highly compromised acquisition process can be obtained from the current and former staff of AMCON, from NDIC, CBN and from the current staff of Keystone Bank itself.

Another suspicious acquisition scandal surrounding the Funtua Group is about the untidy way 9-Mobile, formerly known as Etisalat, was bought. It is Mr. Adrian Wood of Teleology Holdings, a very sound telecoms professional, who collaborated with the Funtua Group for the acquisition of 9-Mobile.

The problem with their bid was the lack of a qualified Operator to support the bid which was one of the minimum conditions of NCC. Adrian Wood alone was not a substitute for an Operator.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) gave several conditions that must be met by the Ultimate Buyer of 9-Mobile to ensure the protection of shareholders value, prevent loss of jobs, protect the telecoms industry from slipping into a crisis and ensure transparency and professionalism in the post-acquisition entity.
The conditions listed by NCC that must be met by the Buyer are Strong Telecoms Operating Experience, Strong Financial Capabilities, Strong Technical Knowledge and Strong Administrative Skills.
The first thing that happened once Teleology was announced as the preferred winner was that the Funtua Group edged Adrian Woods out of Management and turned him to an Insignificant Shareholder.

The second development was that the Funtua Group raided Keystone Bank again and forced the Bank to Pay 50 million Dollars as down payment for the acquisition of 9-Mobile.

The third issue was that Teleology Nigeria replaced Teleology Holdings to remove any influence of Adrian Woods from 9-Mobile totally. The fourth step taken the Funtua Group was to borrow 260 Million Dollars from African Exim Bank.

The fifth thing was to coerce NCC to approve the sale at all cost without meeting 90% of the conditions set up ab-initio by the NCC.

The sixth strange action of the Funtua Group was to force the board of NCC to approve the sale through the influence and pressure from the Presidency. And the seventh Funtua infraction was to use the influence of CBN to force the Banks to the table and waive their own conditions of sale of 9-Mobile to the Teleology Nigeria group.

Efforts to reach the acting Head media and publicity of Economic and financial crimes Commission,EFCC, Mr. Tony Orilade to confirmed the latest developments proved abortive as his lines were not connecting.

Corruption Still Thrives In Nigeria, NBS Says
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-03-2019, 09:49 PM - No Replies

FCT records highest number of reported corruption cases … officials directly request for bribe in 65.4% of cases
Despite fight, corruption still thrives in Nigeria, NBS says
By MICHEAL ANI on January 3, 2019
Corruption, which Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said he came into office to fight, is flourishing under his nose, with the Federal capital territory recording the highest number of cases, according to data released by the National Bureau of statistics, covering year 2016.
NBS data show that corruption cases increased in about 15 states in the country, while only about six and two states reported a decline and zero in the number of corruption cases, respectively.

Abuja, the capital city of the country where major political and administrative activities hold, had the highest number with 657 reported cases in that year, according to the report.
Abuja was followed by Lagos and Kaduna, with each reporting over a 100 cases, according to a graphical representation by the NBS, as the statistical agency did not provide exact numerical values of corruption cases in other states besides

President Buhari assumed office as president in May 2015 vowing to intensify eliminate corruption and set Africa’s largest economy on a path of sustainable development. His administration has since embarked on prosecution of persons alleged to have looted public funds, using the anti-corruption watchdog, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
It may not be entirely true to assess President Buhari’s anti-corruption fight of corruption based on the NBS data alone since the figures reflect barely one year of his presidency. However, the 2017 Corruption Perception Index released in 2018 by Transparency International, placed Nigeria as number 148 among 180 countries, from 136 in 2016, showing a retrogression of 12 places.

“The initial optimism that accompanied the Buhari’s government following his anti-corruption agenda appears to have waned and this is not unconnected to the observed delay in prosecuting corrupt officials who are members of his parties,” an analyst who does not want to be mentioned because of the sensitivity of the matter, said.

The NBS report said that Adamawa, Edo, Enugu, Rivers, Anambra and Imo states all recorded declines in corrupt cases, while there were no cases recorded in both Jigawa and Yobe states.
The report further shows that in terms of percentage distribution of bribes in Nigeria by types of request, direct request from the officials came top at 65.4 percent, while indirect request of payment by officials came next at 19.9 percent.

Bribe request where nobody asked for it, that is, a bribe request done willingly to facilitate/accelerate the procedure, was next at 8.2 percent, the report said.
The report also said that almost 70 percent of bribes were paid before service was delivered, while 13.5 percent were paid after service was delivered.

The percentage of bribes collected at the same time that the service was delivered was 10 percent, while those who paid partly before/ after the service was delivered were 2 percent.
Gbolahan Ologunro, an equity research analyst at Lagos-based CSL Stockbrokers said, “tackling corruption will require strengthening of the judicial system in ensuring the speedy resolution of corruption cases; improved computerisation in procedures required in obtaining important documents so as to reduce face-to-face contact between officials and the populace.

“In addition, there is the need for government to implement policies that will enable the people exploit opportunities in the business environment to improve their standard of living which might act as a deterrent to engaging in corrupt practices.”

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan at the launch of his book “My Transition Hour” last year boasted that the country is more corrupt in 2018 than it was when he handed over to the Buhari’s administration in 2015.

Technocrats and activists have also raised eyebrows against the incumbent’s fight against corruption, saying it is mainly targeted at the opposition.

Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna Central, captured this feeling when he said, “When it comes to fighting corruption in the National Assembly, the Judiciary and in the nation at large, the President uses insecticide, but when it comes to fighting corruption within the Presidency, they use deodorants.”

While President Buhari has maintained his stance on the fight against corruption, the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has contended that “fighting corruption,” is not an economic policy.

Its Vice Presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, at the recent debate said: “You cannot lock your shop and start chasing criminals.”

Bent on showing how firm the current administration is on the fight against corruption, Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo responded: “If you allow criminals to steal the inventory in your shop, you’d soon have no shop.”

PDP Cannot Dictate To Us How To Conduct Elections, INEC Speaks On Amina Zakari
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-03-2019, 09:47 PM - No Replies

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday said it will not allow the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) dictate to it how it will conduct the 2019 general elections.

Speaking in a chat with INDEPENDENT, Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary (CPS), to the INEC Chairman also warned the PDP to desist from its personal attacks on one of its National Commissioners, Mrs Amina Zakari.

“What is this crazy phobia about Amina Zakari? Why is one political party paranoid about this woman? There are 12 National Commissioners in INEC, why are they singling her out always? We are not going to allow one political party to dictate to us how to manage our affairs.

“If they have any problem with Amina Zakari, they should let us know. She was appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan under the PDP government. She was not appointed under the present dispensation. Throughout the time she was there under Jega, this same PDP did not see anything wrong with her. Every national commissioner is entitled to having a renewed term and her term was renewed.

“This woman has a family, children and yet people are just attacking her for nothing. What did she do? Would they be happy if anybody is doing this to their wives?

“The way INEC is structured, not even the INEC chairman can rig the election in favour of any political party or any candidate in this country today.

“He is incapable of doing so because the system will not allow it. So, if the INEC Chairman cannot rig, where is the national commissioner that wants to rig?”

The NAF’s spokesman, Daramola, had said, “A Nigerian Air Force helicopter was lost in combat while providing close air support to troops of 145 Battalion at Damasak in Northern Borno State. The mission was part of the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

Blame PDP, Private Sector For Job Losses Not Buhari — APC
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-03-2019, 06:02 PM - No Replies

Quote:The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it was not responsible for the job losses in the economy in the last three years.

National publicity secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Isa Onilu, made the declaration on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen in Abuja.

According to statistics made available by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released by its Labour Force Statistics on December 19, 2018, about 3.3 million Nigerians became unemployed between December 2017 and September 2018. It has since deteriorated to 20.9 million according to data from the same source.

But addressing newsmen, the APC spokesman said: Nigerians should draw a line between job losses and unemployment rate. Mallam Onilu said the blame for the latter should be put at the doorstep of the erstwhile ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Onilu further submitted that there have been no job losses in the federal institutions in the last three years and further noted that whatever job losses in the economy could be attributed to the organised private sector and what he called the locust years that was 16 years of PDP misrule

He said: “The statistics you refer to, I don’t know what specific statistics you are talking about, if it’s about unemployment, you need to go and check the statistics again, and you need to compare the difference between unemployment and job loss. If it’s about job loss then you will commend this government, that since this government came, all those factors that will lead to job loss are not there. The private sector is being encouraged.

“The issue of agriculture, we all know what agriculture has done to this country, nobody can deny that anymore, it is very obvious. And the biggest employer of labour is that sector, and that is the sector where Nigeria has recorded the biggest growth in the last three years.

So, what about job gains from such sector? From government institutions, is there any government institutions you would say has laid off any worker in the last three years? Rather, what we have is a situation where salaries are paid regularly, allowances are paid regularly. Pensions are paid to those who have left the service and have not been paid for donkey years. So, what factors will lead to that job loss that we are talking about?

Unemployment is a different issue, it is not the same as job loss. What account for unemployment is a progressive degeneration that happened to this country over the cause of the period that PDP was in power, and what this government has done is to continue to create the environment, where we are moving gradually from that mono-economy, complete dependent on oil to an economy where people have choices, and that is the environment that encourages individual to be creative, to be able to apply himself to all the opportunities that are available. So, today any able Nigerian who wishes to employ himself can do so, because the support system is in place and it is working.

He equally dismissed insinuations that the federal government has been selective in its anti-corruption crusade as he vowed that any erstwhile member of the PDP who has joined the ruling party would not be spared, if a case of corruption was established against such individual in a court of law.

“If it is about people who were hitherto members of PDP who came into APC who are now occupying strategic positions. The idea was never to import people from the mass. The idea was to create a new environment where Nigerians that we all know, including ourselves will turn a new leaf and do things according to rule of law, ensure that we apply decency into our actions and patriotism is defined by our quest to promote the interest of this country ahead of our personal interest.

That was what all these is all about. And without prejudice to whatever actions that may have been taken by anyone in the past, the fact that you are in APC has proven by several cases in courts regarding corruption that is not an excuse for you to escape justice.

So, even those who came along during merger were accepted with the impression that they have turn a new leaf but has events shown later they turn out that they only came that is going to be business as usual. And when they found out thinking it was going to be business as usual. When they found out that it wasn’t going to be, they went back to their evilness called the PDP.

And those who are still in APC membership of the party wouldn’t assail for you if you had taken any step that makes you to deserve justice. Justice is being applied to everyone irrespective of what party you belong.

We have seen examples. We have two governors who are presently in jail who were members of APC, they were jailed under this government. We know several cases that are still in court, and are being pursued vigorously. All these government need to do is to file the case; it’s not within the jurisdiction of this government to pass a judgment.”

Former Nun Who Quit The Convent Makes Her Debut As A Porn Star
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 01-03-2019, 06:01 PM - Replies (1)

A former nun who left the convent and became a mother-of-two is set to make her debut as a professional adult film star.

Yudy Pineda, 28, has signed a multi-scene deal with Miami-based BangBros, one of the biggest porn studios in the US, to feature in a convent themed scene.

The Colombian-born porn star, who spent eight years training to become a nun, decided to quit the convent after 8 years when she fell in love with a man who was working at the nunnery as a catechism instructor.

Now BangBros executive producer Cullen McRae says the studio ‘couldn’t be more proud’ of signing Pineda for her debut which features Pineda in a nun habit and will be released on January 13.

McRae told AVN:

Her beauty, her raw sexuality and her desire to share that with her fans is something that we knew was extremely special.

Her first scene with us showcases not only her passion and sexuality but also her faith, as we collaborated with her to come up with a convent-based theme. We have no doubt these scenes will make her a household name.
Pineda entered a convent as a 10-year-old girl dreaming of becoming a nun. When she turned 18 and fell in love, she approached the sisters at the catholic convent and informed them that she would be separating herself.

She recalled in an interview with Colombian outlet Caracol Radio:

I talked to the sister and told her that it was not right what I was doing, I had fallen in love, and I left the convent.
Pineda then moved to Medellin and later found a job with the Nestle company as a vendor. There, a co-worker repeatedly approached her about giving the erotic webcam business a go.

After a while, she agreed and gave the erotic business a try but gave up after 6 months because the earnings barely allowed her to keep up a sustainable living while caring for her two children as a single mother.

But Pineda decided to give the internet porn business another try when she met a man in Medellin who had a better understanding of how to run the business. It paid off and she now makes a little over $2,500 working 40 hours every 15 days as she dances, models and performs a range of sexual acts on herself in front of her fans.

In spite of being in the erotic business, Pineda hasn't forgotten her Catholic roots. She attends Sunday Mass every week and participates in a weekly Friday night bible study class

MURIC Rejects Bishop Kukah’s Almajiris Plan Of Training 10 Million Almajiris
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-03-2019, 02:52 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) yesterday rejected Bishop Matthew Kukah’s almajiri initiative to train 10 million almajiris in northern Nigeria.

The MURIC director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, said in a statement that Kukah’s idea raises more questions than answers.

He said Kukah’s proposal is a ploy for evangelization, modern colonialism, and a potential time bomb.

“We all agree that something must be done about the almajiri children. We can welcome ideas from everyone but the implementation must be in the hands of Muslims in the region. Any other thing will make the intention questionable. We cannot pretend to be so naive as to entrust our Muslim children to the hands of Christian gospellers. As far as we are concerned, Kukah’s almajiri dream is a Trojan horse.

“These children have teachers even if the system is unconventional. The parents entrusted them to the teachers and learning still takes place somehow. Can any Christian community allow an Islamic organization to take their children away just like that? What is the fate of the children taken from Chibok to an Edo IDP centre in 2014? Whatever the situation may be, we wish to caution Northern Muslims, particularly the elders, never to allow it to happen.

“Instead of allowing Christian missionaries to seize this kind of initiative, Northern Muslims should empower available Muslim NGOs to cater for almajiri children. We know from experience that whatever happens will be a point of reference in the near future. Who will bear the shame at that time? We, therefore, advise state governments in the region to rearrange their priorities and concentrate on the education and welfare of almajiri children,” Akintola said.

While saying that it is indisputable fact is that almajiri is essentially a system practiced by northern Muslims and that it is not part of Christendom, he wondered if Rev. Kukah prefers to alleviate poverty among Muslims to doing same among Christians.

He said, “Is he (Kukah) telling us that he loves to assist Muslims more than he loves to help Christians? Can Rev. Kukah give any guarantee that those children will remain the same at the end of his intervention? It is modern colonialism. When did the reverend father suddenly develop so much love for Muslims that he has now decided to give them preference above his Christian folks?

“Are there no poverty-stricken children in the Christian majority Middle Belt particularly in Benue and Plateau? Why can’t he take his project there? This type of project demands trust. No NGO can successfully train children or adults in an atmosphere of mutual distrust.”

He added there were no less than five NGOs that specialize in eliminating poverty among vulnerable people and that one of them, the Almajiri Child Right Initiative (ACRI), specializes in almajiri affairs.

Arms fund diverted to acquire Keystone Bank, Etisalat, PDP alleges

The Peoples Democratic (PDP) has alleged that the controversial acquisition of Keystone Bank and 9 Mobile was done with money diverted from funds meant for arms acquisition. It challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to personally explain the alleged link between members of his family and the deal.
PDP National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan who presided over a press conference yesterday said: “We have called you up again to address very important national issues bothering on allegations of diversion of military funds as well as a fresh plot by the Muhammadu Buhari presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to compromise the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig the 2019 general elections.”
The party called for an urgent investigation into the alleged link between the reportedly diverted funds and the N1.032 trillion allegedly used by Buhari’s family members for corrupt acquisition in the two firms.
The PDP also sought an independent investigation by INTERPOL, Directorate of State Services (DSS), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the matter. According to the party, “This concerted investigation has become imperative following President Buhari’s failure to directly speak out on the allegations against his family members as well as explain how they came about the sum of N1.032 trillion for the alleged acquisition.
“We make this demand in view of public insinuations that the money may have been sourced from funds meant for the purchase of weapons for our soldiers. “More so, the Buhari presidency has blatantly refused to respond to allegations that military fund is being used to finance President Buhari’s re-election campaign, which even manifested in the use of military resources to produce APC’s campaign materials, including an electronic book by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali.”
Meanwhile, the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has accused PDP’s Presidential cabdidate, Atiku Abubakar of sabotaging the anti-terrorism war in the country. In a statement by Niyi Akinsiju, it alleged that the fake news, especially on social media, targeted at the Nigerian Military was the handiwork of Atiku and his media organisation.
The group cited reports on terrorists’ attacks on military formations, desertion by Police personnel, allegations of corruption and scandals in the military hierarchy, as well as the resurfacing of a 2014 claim by soldiers of lack of weaponry to buttress its claims.
It also referred to a recent report by an American firm making unsubstantiated claims that the recent killing of former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh, was to cover up corruption under the current Defence leadership, was fake news and the handiwork of Mr. Brian Ballard, the United States lobbyist Atiku hired at $90,000 a month.

Fed Govt votes N792m to refurbish aircraft
Thursday, January 03, 2019  NEW

                           [Image: fLxWInU3zJDfXKHKhCS4QMaoa_SpTw47fBcWYmzw...J-r1D=s0-d]
The Federal Government is to spend N792 million to upgrade one of the aircraft in the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF), details of this year’s Appropriation Bill have shown.

Another N607 million will be disbursed on the ongoing “phased replacement of vehicles, spare parts and tyres in the Presidency, CVU (Common Vehicle Unit), security/police escort and State House operational fleets”.

According to the 2019 budgetary proposal submitted to the National Assembly, the N792, 000, 000 mandatory upgrade and installation of live TV and internet service is for the presidential jet identified as BBJ (5N-FGT).

The 5N-FGT Boeing 737-700 is registered to the Government of Nigeria and it is a Boeing Business Jet aircraft with some external features of a commercial aircraft, but essentially a private jet.

Also, the presidential air fleet is asking for N50 million to carry out a “compliance with mandatory upgrade and installation of internet service on a second presidential aircraft, the G550 (5N-FGW), which has 5N-FGW (Nigerian Air Force) Gulfstream G550 as its registration details”.

Another N650, 000,000 was voted for the mandatory upgrades of the other aircraft in the PAF. The details of the aircraft scheduled for refurbishment were not specified.

The PAF is domiciled in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Security (DSS), thereby ensuring an extremely high level of security cover.

The Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) is seeking approval for a N6, 748,846,483 as its budget proposal for this year, even as other government agencies plan television-related initiatives to boost their visibility.

The National Action Committee On Aids (NACA) applied for approval to spend N20 million on its media activities on radio and television, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) aims to spend N40 million on radio and television jingles and the Federal Ministry of Science & Technology targets expenditure of N94 million on the “Establishment of a Science, Technology and Innovation Television Station in Abuja”.

In the Budget 2019 proposals, anti-corruption and accountability agencies are to receive various allocations for recurrent and capital expenditures.

About N3.1 billion has been earmarked for the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation, N1 billion for the Code of Conduct Tribunal, N110 billion for the Judiciary and N5.9 billion for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The EFCC’s N22 billion vote covers various projects, including the expansion of the agency’s detention facilities to accommodate those under interrogation.

It was learnt that N2, 617,966 will be spent to ensure the completion of the EFCC detention facility in Maiduguri. The completion of the detention facility in Gombe will gulp N2, 094,373 and N3, 141,559 will be disbursed on the ongoing expansion of the commission’s cell in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to allow the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, retire on January 15, the IG’s 60th birthday.

The party said this was one of the ways the President could convince Nigerians and the international community about his commitment to have free, fair and acceptable elections this year.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, who stated this while answering questions in Abuja on Wednesday, said there was no need to extend the tenure of the IG.

He said the police force as an institution had many officers that were capable of leading the NPF.

There are insinuations that the Presidency is plotting to extend the tenure of Idris because of his alleged closeness to Buhari and the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress.

However, the PDP said that President Buhari must show evidence that he would match his words with action, just as he said in his New Year message that the coming elections would not be a do-or-die affair.

Nevertheless, Ologbondiyan said that if the APC and the President were not planning anything negative, they should allow Idris to retire.

He said, “One of the ways to demonstrate or show that he (President Buhari) is committed to free, fair and credible elections, is not to extend the tenure of the IG, who is due for retirement this month.

“He has said that he is committed to having transparent elections. He needs to tell Nigerians by his actions, and not merely with words of mouth.”

Tenure elongation is reinforcement of failure, says PSC member

In a related development, a member of the Police Service Commission, Najatu Muhammad, has described tenure elongation in the force as what she described as “reinforcement of failure.”

Muhammad, who represents the Nigerian women in the commission, said there was no way she would keep silent as a key stakeholder in the police and national security establishment.

She said it was even wrong to start discussing the extension of the tenure of the IG and service chiefs who she alleged had failed.

In a statement made available to The Akelicious, she stated, “The idea of extending the tenure of the IG and the service chiefs who have woefully failed is a farcical travesty which abuses the patience and common sense of Nigerians. We can expect that the call of millions of people across party lines for their immediate retirement is not going to be unheeded by the President.”

Muhammad said that there were instances where policemen had absconded from their duties due to poor welfare, adding that the alleged evidence of abuse of power should not be ignored.

She said that protests by gallant men and women of the police force as seen in Borno, Owerri and Buni Yadi were unprecedented.

She stated, “Today, officers are abdicating from even training, rather than allowing themselves to be treated like cannon fodder; poorly armed, poorly paid , poorly trained and led to their early graves in droves while some of their junior ones are given rapid accelerated promotions to superior (and juicy) positions without training or recourse to due process.

“This is the prevailing environment within the Police Force today – the direct result of which is indiscipline and fallen morale amongst officers and the rank.

Nigerian Equities Market Begins 2019 on Bearish Note
Thursday, January 03, 2019  BUSINESS

                          [Image: c5175972-nigerian-stock-exchange-flo-696x522.jpg]
The Nigerian equities market kicked off 2019 on a negative note as sell offs in bellwether counters led to a decline of 1.15 per cent in the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) All-Share Index to close at 31,070.06.

The market had ended 2018 with a decline of 18.7 per cent contrary to expectations that the recovery recorded in 2017 would be sustained.

However, political uncertainties in the domestic economy in the build up to the 2019 elections amidst a sluggish growth in gross domestic product (GDP) from the economic recession, which led foreign investors to flee the equities market in search of high-quality lower-risk assets in developed economies notably the United States made the market to closed 2018 on a bearish note.

And on the first trading day of the 2019 yesterday, the market remained bearish, shedding 1.15 per cent due to price losses by bellwether stocks such as Nigerian Breweries Plc, Dangote Cement Plc, Lafarge Africa Plc and Access Bank Plc. Consequently, market capitalisation shed N134.4 billion to close at N11.6 trillion.

In terms of sectoral performance, the NSE Banking Index was the lone gainer, rising by 0.1 per cent following buying interest in Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (+2.1 per cent) and United Bank for Africa (+1.3 per cent). The NSE Consumer Goods Index recorded the highest decline of 2.3 per cent followed by the NSE Insurance Index that sed 1.2 per cent. The NSE Industrial Goods Index and NSE Oil & Gas Index lost 1.2 per cent and 0.7 per cent in that order.

Analysts at SCM Capital Limited said their near term outlook for the local bourse remains conservative owing to political concerns ahead of the 2019 electoral cycle and the absence of a positive driver.

“However, stable macroeconomic fundamentals remain supportive of recovery in the long-term,” they said.

Also looking ahead, analysts at FSDH Research had said: “With growing concerns about a weakening global economy, the U.S Fed providing guidance for two rate hikes in 2019 and more importantly, the elevated political risk in the domestic economy, we expect foreign investors to remain on the sidelines. Hence, we still expect a choppy theme to characterize the nation’s bourse over the short-term.”

Speaking on the performance of the stock market, the Acting Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Ms. Mary Uduk had said the impact of increase in interest rate in advanced countries not just US, had impact on capital outflow thereby leading to reduced performance in our markets

Useni harps on non-violence, hitch-free general election
Wednesday, January 02, 2019  NEW

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Plateau, Gen. Jeremiah Useni (rtd), has charged the people of the state on non-violence and hitch-free polls.

Useni gave the charge on Wednesday while addressing supporters in Mangun during a visit to the community alongside party officials, including Chief Damishi Sango, the state party Chairman. “I am standing before you as the PDP governorship candidate pleading with you not to be involved in any fight or violence during the electioneering campaigns and the election proper, so as not to spoil them. “We shouldn’t fight or kill because of the elections; it is not a do-or-die affair and only God gives power to whoever He wants to give it to, ’’ he said. The PDP gubernatorial candidate described Churches and Mosques as “our backbones in term of our success as politicians and leaders because of their prayers and divine counselling’’. Useni, who frowned at cheating during elections, said such acts shouldn’t be tolerated by any patriotic and God-fearing individuals. READ He advised the people to make sure they put their PVCs into good use during the elections to vote for a dependable party of their choice. Also speaking, the Mwaghavul Paramount ruler, Chief Nelson Bakfur, admonished the people to resist any attempt to drag them into any form of crisis or crime during the impending general elections. Bakfur noted that the Mwaghavul nation was known for their patriotism and good conduct and expressed optimism that they won’t put the nation into any shame or disappointment. (NAN)

Oil prices surge 5%
Thursday, January 03, 2019  BUSINESS

                           [Image: qtiQVOxwVtFDIN4oEaFWVnZfmXEkBbM5Q_hjirF2...woZsB=s0-d]
Oil prices reversed course and turned sharply higher in mid-morning trade yesterday.

Brent crude rose $2.60, or 4.8 per cent, to $56.40 a barrel after trading as low as $52.51 earlier. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose $2.22, or 4.9 per cent, to $47.63.

This came after earlier falling more than $1 a barrel as the world’s top producers pump at record highs and signs of economic slowdown unnerve the market.

Traders pointed to signs that Saudi Arabia is beginning to make good on vows to cut output. Saudi exports in December fell by about half a million barrels per day to stand at 7.253 million bpd, according to tanker-tracking data from Bloomberg.

Figures from ClipperData have shown that loadings of Saudi crude on ships bound for the United States have been falling in recent months. The Saudis have used the price-boosting strategy in the past to shrink U.S. stockpiles, the most transparent and closely-watched inventories in the world.

The “Saudis are trying to engineer a fall, if not plunge, in U.S. crude oil inventories to give the appearance of global tightness,” said John Kilduff, founding partner at energy hedge fund Again Capital.

Oil prices rebounded shortly after WTI hit a session low at $44.35 a barrel and as the U.S. stock market reversed some of its earlier losses.

“Typically in the beginning of a new quarter or new year you get new fresh money coming in. I think that’s part of it,” said Kilduff.

Earlier in the day, oil prices had slumped against a bearish backdrop. Russia reported that it pumped 11.16 million bpd in 2018, marking a post-Soviet era record. This came just two days after the U.S. government figures showed the nation’s output hit another all-time high in October at 11.54 million bpd.

“The omens are far from encouraging,” said Stephen Brennock of oil broker PVM, citing rising non-OPEC supply and the likelihood of further increases in oil inventories.

“The current bearish bias will therefore continue in the near term and it stands to reason that oil will struggle to break out from its current trough,” he said.

Oil prices fell in 2018 for the first year since 2015 after buyers fled the market in the fourth quarter over growing worries about excess supply and the economic slowdown.

Adding to concern about economic slowdown, a series of purchasing managers’ indexes for December mostly showed declines or slowdowns in manufacturing activity across Asia — the main growth region for oil demand.

China issued its first batch of crude import quotas for 2019 yesterday at a lower volume than for the same batch a year ago, though expectations are for the volumes to climb later this year.

Independent market analyst Greg McKenna said in a note yesterday that it was “difficult for traders and investors to ignore what looks like a genuine global economic slowdown.”

The signs of rising production illustrate the challenge faced by OPEC and allies including Russia, which are returning to supply restraint in 2019, to support the market.

But OPEC is hopeful the supply-cutting deal will work. The energy minister for the United Arab Emirates said on Tuesday he remained optimistic about achieving a market balance in the first quarter.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 3RD JANUARY.

WALKING IN HIS PERFECT WILL

…that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).

You can live in God’s perfect will for your life as you follow Him in and through the Word. You can know and walk in His preordained paths for you. Once you recognise and yield yourself to Him, His will is no longer a mystery; He illumines your heart and your path to comprehend and apprehend His purpose for your life. You’d be in God’s place, in God’s time, for God’s purpose, in God’s way, and for God’s delight. Hallelujah!

Some people are in the wrong job, business, relationships, etc., and as a result, they’re living amiss without realising it. Nothing about your life should be outside the will and purpose of God for you, including those you meet, where you go, the things you do, and so much more. The Bible says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Romans 8:14).

When you yield yourself to the Spirit to lead and guide you, nothing happens to you or with you by chance! You’d meet only those He planned to be in your path, whether good or bad, but are integral to fulfilling your destiny in Him. Nothing compares to living in God’s perfect will; walking in His prearranged path; His exact plan and purpose for you at any given time.

Therefore, in your life, and especially at these beginning days of the New Year, before you take major steps or decisions, be sure they’re in sync with God’s perfect will. Spend time to meditate on the Word and fellowship with the Holy Spirit, and there’ll be a light in your spirit; a consciousness of what you’re supposed to do.

Perhaps, you think you’ve been out of the perfect will of God for your life, and as a result, things have been skewed. There can be a change even now! First, recognise that God is big enough to change things for you, or even create a new and better destiny for you. Yes, He can, because He’s God Almighty.
Secondly, decide that effective immediately, you’ll allow the Holy Spirit have the dominion and mastery in your life. He’s the One that reveals to you and guides you to fulfil the will of the Father.

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for predestinating my life to glory, honour, and beauty. Being led by your Word and the Holy Spirit, I deal excellently in life, manifesting your righteousness and the fruits of salvation, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Romans 8:29-30 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Ephesians 2:10 AMPC For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), [a]recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].

#TALKINGSESSION

3RD JANUARY.

KINDLY SAY THIS WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for the life of victory and dominion I have in Christ Jesus; thank you for the revelation of your Word that enlightens me on who I am in Christ. Thank you for leading and guiding me in the way that I should go, taking paths that you’ve preordained for me, and elevating me unto

higher levels of your glory. Your Word is working in me, and building me up daily. In every area of my life, there’s development and progress because the Word is my total life-builder. I am effective, excellent, and prospering in all things because I live in, and by, the Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

2019: Atiku Sets Up Anti-rigging Committee
User Avatar Forum: News

.....INEC: Nigerians have confidence in us

........PDP to disburse campaign funds at ward levels

Quote:Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has constituted an anti-rigging committee to counter alleged plans by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to suppress votes in his stronghold in the February 16, 2019 election.

A source close to the former vice president told New Telegraph that Atiku’s major concerns about the 2019 presidential election are the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“In a free and fair election, Atiku is confident of defeating President Muhammadu Buhari. However, given the intelligence reports at his disposal, INEC and security agencies are the main obstacle to his winning the 2019 election. This informed the setting up of the anti-rigging committee,” the source said.

The identities of the anti-rigging committee are still being guarded.

Atiku is hoping to make a big haul of votes from South-South, South-East and North-Central geo-political zones in the presidential election.

But there are fears that APC might militarise the zones to whittle down the chances of the party in these areas to favour President Buhari.

The anti-rigging committee is to work directly with the presidential candidate, the PDP Presidential Campaign Council and the organs of the party.

Its duty is to, among other things, pre-empt any rigging strategy of APC, raise early rigging alert, check plot by the ruling party to rig the election, as well as mobilise local and international groups against electoral malpractice.

According to the source, PDP’s fears that the election might not be free and fair were heightened by President Buhari’s refusal to assent to the 2010 Electoral Amendment Bill passed by the National Assembly.

He further disclosed that the party does not have confidence that the electoral umpire will conduct free and fair elections.

“What happened in Ekiti and Osun states is clear to everybody. Buhari is not ready for free and fair election. That is why we are taking pre-emptive measure,” he stated.

Another source stated that PDP has uncovered plot by the ruling party to suppress the support base of its presidential candidate.

“We know that the Operation Python Dance campaign by the military is to help APC rig the presidential election.

“There will be heavy military presence mostly in the South-South, South-East and then, North-Central. These are PDP areas.

“That is why our party is rejecting it. We are not in a war situation. The military should go to North-East and Zamfara State where there are insurgents and cattle rustlers.

“There is no threat to peace in the South and North Central zones,” the source who asked not to be named, said.

Kola Ologbondiyan, Director, Media and Publicity of PDP, however, said he was not aware of any plan by the party to create anti-rigging committee.

He disclosed that what the party is demanding from INEC is transparency in the conduct of the election.

“We are demanding that international and local observers should be allowed into INEC’s situation room where the transmission of votes will take place.

“You recall in 1993, it was clear that Abiola was winning because of transparency.

“So, instead of INEC locking themselves in one situation room and manipulate the election, they should allow the European Union (EU) and United States (U.S.) observers to participate in the collation of results. That is how we can guarantee transparency,” Ologbondiyan stated, Spokesperson of APC presidential campaign, Festus Keyamo (SAN), said PDP is suffering from depression.

“They have ran out of ideas, ran out of what to say. They are now talking like demented fellows. They have said this million times without proof. That is sign of depression,” Keyamo said.

INEC said the position of PDP did not represent the general opinion of Nigerians.

Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said the allegation has become the familiar song by the party, which Nigerians were tired of hearing.

Oyekanmi advised PDP that it is not compulsory for any political party to field candidates in the 2019 general elections, especially if that political party does not have confidence in the electoral body organizing it.

“If you are a student who wants to sit for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and you don’t have confidence in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), then you don’t have any business sitting for the examination. You can go to Ghana, Sierra Leone or the Sudan to sit for an equivalent examination.

“There are 74 political parties taking part in the presidential election. Let those who have confidence in INEC participate and we will not disappoint them.

“Nigerians have confidence in the Commission and we are happy about the feedback we are getting,” he added.

Also, INEC said it is not considering the party’s demand at the moment.

INEC’s Director, Voter Education and Publicity (VEP), Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, said that there is no country that allows international observers in its situation room.

Meanwhile, New Telegraph has learnt that disbursement of PDP’s campaign funds would be done at ward level and “not to an individual.”

“Other members of the ward will have to be present and the money has to be accounted for.

“We discovered that in 2015, many people collected campaign money and disappeared. We don’t want it to happen this time around.

“The national chairman has given orders that every party member must deliver his or her ward. If you are strong go to your ward and work. We don’t want Abuja politicians. Many of these people hanging around Wadata Plaza (PDP National Secretariat) are not known in their wards,” the source said.

Before now, PDP had declared “operation deliver your ward” to its members as basis for political reward.

Atiku, at a meeting with members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) immediately after securing the party’s ticket, insisted that reward system would be based on electoral performance of members.

Pastor Walter Masocha Sex Scandal With Married Daughter, Resigns
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 01-03-2019, 08:21 AM - No Replies

A UK-based Zimbabwean pastor who has obviously lost what it takes to be the man of God for his followers to look up to, thought it prudent to step aside after confessing to having slept with his married daughter.

The incestuous and scandalous act of Pastor Walter Masocha, leader of Agape for All Nations Church reportedly came to light after his daughter’s husband chanced on the explicit messages and nude pictures she had been sending to her father.

Walter’s shocked son-in-law took evidence of his discovery to his mother-in-law, Judith to complain to her.

Being equally surprised, she also confronted her pastor husband who reportedly confessed to the incestuous act, probably because of the strength of the evidence.

In a statement that announced his resignation, one of the church’s leaders, Francis Aturia referred to the incident as a “serious moral fall”.

Dr.Walter Masocha was once in the news for allegations of sexual molestation of his female church members. This particular incident happens to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The statement from the church’s leadership apparently addressed to the congregation reads: "Sadly, as a result, we would like to inform you all that Dr.Walter Masocha has with immediate effect taken leave of absence in order to deal with a serious moral fall which he has informed his family, the Board of Trustees and the Commissioners.

"He is broken-hearted and distraught at the result of the misdemeanours and feels that he is not fit to continue as Spiritual Leader of Agape.

"This has come as a significant shock and blow to Dr Judith and the family, and no doubt to many Agape children and other people worldwide. A full investigation will be conducted in due time, and the appropriate disciplinary action shall be taken.

"Many on hearing this will be deeply shocked and disturbed by such a disappointing revelation. We implore you to remember most especially, his gracious wife, Dr Judith and consider a Christ-like response to all who are involved at every level of the church family.

"We would like to kindly ask you to remember him and his family in your prayers. In view of the fact that he is on leave from his official role, we would like to ask you all at this time to avoid contacting him. We also urge you to avoid contacting Dr Judith and the family in respect of their privacy at this difficult time. At this time, we encourage prayer fuelled with loving action to support one another and keep our focus on our Lord Jesus Christ who by His Holy Spirit is the only one that will enable the current tragedy to be worked out ultimately for His own glory somehow, sometime."

Sack Service Chiefs Now, Former DSS Director Tells FG
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-03-2019, 08:18 AM - No Replies

A former Director of the Department of the State Services (DSS), Mr. Mike Ejiofor, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to relieve the leadership of some of the various security agencies of their position as a means of improving the performance of these organisations in the fight against insecurity in the country.

He said a situation where high -profile military officers were kidnapped and killed showed the state of insecurity in the country.

Speaking Wednesday on the Arise News, a sister broadcast arm of THISDAY Newspaper, Ejiofor said the tenure of some of the Service Chiefs had expired.

“For me if you continue to do the same thing, the same way you can’t expect a different result. Some of the Service Chiefs have overstayed – their tenures have expired but they are still being retained. So, I think it is time we need to try new hands but because of politics I think the government doesn’t have the political will to do this,” he said.

The ex-DSS boss cautioned that the country cannot afford to play politics with its security. According to him, the bulk of the security concerns over the forthcoming general elections is caused by the actions and behaviours of politicians from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP).

“Well it is going to be a very challenging year. In 2018 you have listed the crises and challenges we have, which the government is trying to address but you know the problems and challenges we expect in 2019 because of the election, I believe, are self-made and self-inflicted because these could be avoided. You see the way politicians go about their campaigns. We expect them to campaign on issues but they are busy attacking each other. We should not forget that we have about 90 political parties but the prominent ones causing the real security challenges are the PDP and APC and the reasons are obvious.”

“APC want to retain power, claiming that PDP has been in power for the past 16 years and PDP having left power for over four years want to come back. There is nothing wrong with that; that is democracy but my fears are that as stated in our constitutions, the primary purpose and responsibility of government is the security and welfare of the people.

“You can’t divorce politics from security but at the same time we can’t be playing politics with our security, which is exactly what is happening. “People are playing politics with our security system which is very dangerous. Security is a collective effort of the whole people and it shouldn’t be left for government alone but the government on its part also has promised as one of its cardinal projects to provide security for the people but we are not there yet. You listed the challenges; you look at Borno State for instance the Boko Haram is overwhelming the military what are the reasons? You go to Zamfara people are been killed daily. Herdsmen whom I don’t call herdsmen – I call them terrorist, which I believe is an extension of Boko Haram, all over the country and we are preparing for an election. The problems are so much and I think the earlier the government addresses the issues the better for them as we are going into elections,” Ejiofor explained.

Ejiofor disclosed that the military is ill-equipped to handle the current security challenges in the country.

“We have in place the multinational joint taskforce and they seem not to be effective anymore and then we need to change tactics and it is not just changing – the government should also come out to equip the military. I think they are ill equipped; they are not fully functional as they supposed

Minimum Wage: "Presidency Moves To Appease Labour" - This Day

Asks govs to plug waste to accommodate workers’ demand

• Pleads with NLC for more time to resolve logjam

Quote:Following Nigerian Labour Congress’ (NLC) threat to call out workers on indefinite strike on Tuesday to protest non-implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage recommended by the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, the presidency has moved to pacify the workers, appealing to them to tarry a while on their planned action.

The NLC had asked President Muhammadu Buhari to submit the N30,000 minimum wage implementation bill to the National Assembly for passage by December 31 last year or face a nationwide strike action.

With the deadline unmet, the NLC President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, had said the Tuesday strike had become imminent despite a federal government offer for a resolution meeting schedule for January 8.

Authoritative presidency sources, however, told THISDAY Wednesday that the president is making efforts to resolve the wage dispute, which threatens to further obstruct the nation’s fragile economy should the strike hold.
State governors under the auspices of Nigerian Governors Forum had objected to N30,000 as the baseline wage bill for the federation on the grounds that most of the states could not afford it.

Offering N22,500, the governors said anything more would send most of the states into insolvency.
But labour disagreed, contending that N30,000 was a compromised figured, which if diligently pursued would be realisable.

Buhari, according to THISDAY sources, had intervened, asking the governors to reconsider their stand and find ways of acceding to the workers’ demand.

“The president met with the representatives of the governors and appealed to them to plug areas of waste as a way of securing the funds to meet the workers’ demand,” a source told THISDAY.

He said the governors had agreed to heed the advice of the president and had gone back to evaluate their finances, adding that what was needed was some more time for the governors to report progress to the president.

“Certainly, the governors need to come back to the president with their revised position before he could proceed to the National Assembly with an implementation bill,” another presidency source told THISDAY.

Stating that time, though now a scarce commodity, was what was needed to resolve the logjam, he explained that even if the president was minded to proceed to the National Assembly with the bill as requested by labour, the federal legislators had been on Christmas break, adding that there was no way the NLC’s demand could have been met.

“The National Assembly had been on break. And so, even if the president is to overrule the governors on this, there is no way the National Assembly can reconvene before the Friday deadline given by labour,” he said.

Wabba had called on the federal government wednesday to urgently transmit the bill on the new national minimum wage to the National Assembly for a speedy passage.

He said, “It is unfortunate that the federal government is yet to transmit to the National Assembly an executive bill for the enactment of N30,000 as the new national minimum wage.

“Government’s dilly-dallying on the issue has strained government-labour relations with a potential for a major national strike, which could just be days away.

“I want to appeal to the government to do the needful by urgently transmitting the bill on the new national minimum wage to the National Assembly.

“We also would like to use this same opportunity to urge workers to fully mobilise for a prolonged national strike and enforce their right.”

Explaining that the strike would become inevitable as the last option for labour, the NLC president called on all Nigerians and businesses to understand and support it.

He, however, assured workers that their labour, patience and diligence would not be in vain.
Wabba said the NLC leadership remains committed to giving all it takes to ensure workers get just and fair wages in a decent work environment appropriate to their well-being.

He added that the NLC leadership is similarly committed to social protection for workers.
According to him, “The new year presents great opportunities for workers, pensioners, civil society allies and their friends and families to put their numbers to good use.

“This is by voting out, not on the basis of tribe or religion but purely policy, any candidate that cannot serve their interest.

“In the year that is ahead of us, the NLC remains unequivocally committed to the national and workers’ goals which include the campaign for industrialisation, against selective enforcement of “No Work, No Pay” policy of government, among others.”

The N30,000 new minimum wage, which was a compromise figure arrived at by the Minimum Wage Tripartite Committee comprised of the government (federal and states), organised private sector and the organised public sector was contained in the report forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari. Labour had initially proposed N66, 500, while the federal government proposed N24,500 at the negotiation meeting before the N30,000 was adopted.

However, wednesday the federal government said it would meet with the union on Friday.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, said government had invited executives of the organised labour for a meeting at the Conference Hall of the ministry.

General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, said the labour had received letter from the labour ministry for a meeting on Friday.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a notice to all its structures and organs to commence mobilisation for mass action against the federal government, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).

This was contained in a statement signed by the association’s president, Danielson Akpan.
The ASUU commenced a nationwide strike on November 4 after the lecturers accused the federal government of not implementing previous agreements.

The association had earlier issued an ultimatum of two weeks to the federal government, ASUU and ASUP on December 23, to call off the strike or face confrontation.

The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, Aminu Saleh has confirmed that a father of three, Samuel Sunday, has been arrested for allegedly poisoning his three children with sniper killing two of the children while the third one survived.

The surviving son told newsmen that their father and his brother gave them the sniper to drink.

Quote:“Our father and his brother tied three of us and gave us sniper to drink. I was told that my brothers are dead, and that I am the only one that survived,”
[size=undefined]
the boy said in tears on his hospital bed.

He said that suspect and his brother, Aya Preye, were being charged for the murder of the two children. He identified the deceased boys as Miracle (12) and God’s time (10).

Sunday and his wife had divorced but the three children were living with their grandmother before the incident occurred. The police commissioner said that the suspect had alleged that his sons were wizards who were responsible for his sickness.

Dr Moses Emeka of Hillem Medical Centre, who attended to the only survivor, said the boy was brought to the hospital unconscious by an NDLEA official. The doctor confirmed that the survivor was responding to treatment and would soon recover.

Who Will Deliver Pastor Tunde Bakare From The Spirit Of Lying? - Reno Omokri
User Avatar Forum: News

Who Will Deliver Pastor Tunde Bakare From The Spirit of Lying?

I ceased taking Pastor Tunde Bakare seriously ever since he lied against the Holy Ghost by prophesying (wrongly) that “Let me tell you the truth by the spirit of God, neither OBJ, Atiku, IBB and this tall one, Buhari are part of the new. They are part of the old that is decaying. That old one is passing away. The new is emerging and these ones are not part of that new.”

For those who do not know, Pastor Tunde Bakare made the above statement in an on October 2, 2006 interview he granted to the Punch Newspapers.

It is now a historical record that after claiming that God’s Holy Spirit told him Muhammadu Buhari was part of Nigeria’s decaying past, the same Pastor Tunde Bakare went ahead to accept to be the running mate of the same Muhammadu Buhari in 2011.

Perhaps only in Nigeria would such a charlatan continue to parade himself as a pastor, but as Karl Marx said, “religion is the opium of the people” and Bakare sure knows how to feed that addiction.

The Bible clearly tells us two things about the Holy Spirit.

In Matthew 12:32, Jesus the Son of God said “Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”

Bakare clearly lied against the Holy Spirit of God because his so called word “by the spirit of God”, DID NOT come to pass.

1 Corinthians 14:33 further tells us that “God is not the author of confusion.”

Noe let us flash back to the present time, Pastor Tunde Bakare was recently in Canada where he granted an interview and said, amongst other things, that President Buhari could not appoint a cabinet for six months because “he met an empty treasury.”

His exact words were as follows:

“‘Development under President Buhari Buhari has been slow because as he said, he inherited an empty treasury. For six months, he could not appoint ministers because there was no money to pay them, and little by little, thank God, oil picked up.”

The above words are nothing but a lie and a figment of both the imaginations of President Buhari and Pastor Tunde Bakare and I will prove this assertion using facts, not opinions.

The Jonathan administration left $2.07 billion in the Excess Crude Account when it handed over to the Buhari administration on May 29, 2015. This is an easily verifiable fact from both the Central Bank of Nigeria and is also available from other open sources.

In addition to that, the Jonathan government left a Foreign reserve of $29. 6 billion for the incoming government and $5.2 billion was left for the Buhari administration by way of dividend payments from the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Company.

Now, there is no way these huge amounts can be described as “empty treasury”. I challenge pastor Tunde Bakare to disprove these figures I have given here or take me to court and I will embarrass him there and show him to be the liar that he is.

If a man can lie against God, is it man that he cannot lie against? I wonder why Nigerians continue to take charlatans like Bakare and Mbaka seriously!

Speaking further in that interview, Pastor Tunde Bakare claimed that Buhari had achieved the great feat of ending Nigeria’s rice imports. His actual words were as follows:

“‘We are no longer importing rice for three years that is an incredible achievement, seventeen local government occupied by Boko Haram no longer an issue.”

Both of these assertions are easily dismissible lies that even a cursory Google search can debunk.

First of all, even the Buhari administration has not claimed that Nigeria is no longer importing rice. What they said, which is also a lie, is that rice imports have reduced.

But the truth is that Nigeria’s rice imports have actually increased by 60% as revealed by no less an institution than the United States Department of Agriculture.

In fact, according to the USDA, not only has Nigeria’s rice imports increased by 60%, but Nigeria is projected to be the second largest rice importing nation.

These are the exact words of the USDA “China and Nigeria are projected to remain the largest rice importing countries in 2019, followed by the EU, Cote d’Ivoire, and Iran.”

You do not have to take my word for this. Google it by yourself. The last time Nigeria’s rice imports went down, according to the USDA, was in 2015 under former President Jonathan.

Then Bakare claims that “seventeen local government occupied by Boko Haram no longer an issue.” I mean is Pastor Tunde Bakare so out of touch?

As he was granting that interview, Baga, Doron-Baga, Kross Kawwa, Bunduran, Kekeno and Kukawa towns are all under Boko Haram/ISWAP control.

In fact, the Governor of Borno State, a notorious political enemy of former President Jonathan, was forced to hold a press conference on New Year’s eve where he confessed that the situation has deteriorated and was worse than before.

For emphasis, the following was the front page headline in the Punch on New Year’s eve “Residents flee as Boko Haram takes over Borno communities”.

The report went on to say as follows:

“There has been mass movement of people out of communities in Borno State through Damaturu the Yobe State capital to Bauchi, Gombe, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kebbi and Jigawa states.”

But unlike the Jonathan era, this time around, the insecurity in Nigeria is almost total. As I write this today (January 2, 2019, Aminu Bello Masari, the Governor of Katsina, President Buhari’s own state, raised an alarm on the insecurity and breakdown of law and order in his state. We are not talking of Zamfara or the Northeast. We are talking Katsina. If Buhari cannot secure his own state, is it Nigeria he can secure?

And then there is Zamfara State, which is becoming as bad, if not worse, than the Northeast.

So with these unimpeachable facts I have marshalled, I am hard pressed to understand why Pastor Tunde Bakare cannot respect himself and the calling he claims to have, by using his mouth to speak truth instead of lying like a heathen!

Let me end by giving a Biblical admonition to my readers. In Deuteronomy 18:22 The Bible says:

“If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.”

Adamawa 100 % Votes: Prof Kperogi Calls Out Nuhu Ribadu

When The former chairman of EFCC declared that 100% of votes from Adamawa will go to Buhari he never expected the amount of ridicule that will accompany such irresponsible statement as many have now termed it.

Prof Farooq Kperogi who took exception to the publication wrote : Since Atiku will vote in Adamawa, a 100% vote for Buhari in Adamawa would mean that even Atiku would vote for Buhari, an implausible possibility. I'm yet to see anyone who supports Buhari without sounding stupid. BTW, Mr "anti-corruption," where did you get 40 cars too give away?

Nigerians have digitally & technologically armed themselves in order to prevent the repeat of the Osun charade having watched the manufacturing of votes during the APC primaries.

"Ambode Now A Lame Duck, Can't Present Budget" - Jimi Agbaje
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-02-2019, 07:45 PM - No Replies

Quote:The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, has criticised Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the delay in the presentation of the 2019 budget.

Agbaje, who said he was not surprised by the development, noted that Lagos residents were bearing the brunt of the “breakdown of democracy” in the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He added that he did not expect any further governance in the state until after May 2019 when a new government would be constituted.

“It is not surprising. I do not expect governance until after May 2019.

“The governor has become a lame duck. We hear that approvals are now given in other quarters. When democracy collapses in a ruling party, the people bear the brunt,” he said.

For the past 10 years, the Lagos State Government had a culture of budget presentation before the fiscal year.

The 2018 budget of N1.4trn, for instance, which was the largest ever in the history of the state, was presented by Ambode on December 11, 2017.

The 2017 budget of N813bn was also presented by the governor on November 29, 2016.

The 2016 budget of N662bn was presented on December 17, 2015.

The governor’s predecessor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, now Minister for Power, Works and Housing, presented the 2015 budget of N489.69bn on November 24, 2014.

He presented the 2014 budget of N489.69 in October 2013.

The 2013 budget of N497.277bn was also presented by Fashola in October 2012.

The former governor presented the 2012 budget estimate of N485bn on November 14, 2011.

The year 2011 budget of N445bn was presented in December 2010.

The 2010 budget of N429bn was presented by Fashola in November 2009.

In reaction, a government source said “a lot of forces outside government” were “influencing things” in Alausa.

The source said, “There is a lot of interference with the affairs of government. A large part of the running of government is being done outside, and that is why a lot of things are not working.

“Governor Ambode is struggling to stabilise himself. The man is surrounded, so he is managing contending forces and conflicting interests, and part of the fallout is the delay in the budget.

“It is unusual and unprecedented that the budget is not out by now. But I believe in a matter of time, it will be resolved and sorted out. But it is a pointer to what is going on.”

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Abib Haruna, did not pick his calls and had yet to respond to a text message from our correspondent.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, could not be reached on his telephone line.

Fani-kayode Blast Mbaka For Endorsing Buhari
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-02-2019, 07:29 PM - No Replies

Quote:Ejike Mbaka, the spiritual director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, has been blasted for endorsing President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office.

The blast is coming from Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister who described the cleric as an agent of Satan.

Mr Mbaka, a Catholic priest, had on Tuesday endorsed Mr Buhari who is seeking a second term in office on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, (APC).

Prior to the 2015 election, the cleric had endorsed the APC flag bearer while he was in the opposition.

Buhari who ran the race against an incumbent president defeated former president, Goodluck Jonathan, in the historic election. It was also the first time an opposition candidate would win a presidential election in the country.

Kicking against the cleric’s endorsement, the former minister said he was now convinced Mbaka is of the devil.

He quoted where the cleric said if God did not prefer the president to go back to office, the almighty being would have took the life of the Nigerian leader.

“If God does not want Buhari he could have died”- Father Mbaka.

“Short man devil has spoken! I am convinced beyond all reasonable doubt that this creature from the 7th circle of hell is an agent of satan,” Fani-Kayode said in a tweet on Wednesday.

“He is worse than Rasputin: he thrives on falsehood and reeks of sulphur!” he added.

The former minister is a known critic of the Buhari administration. He attacks virtually anyone who supports the government.

After 4 Consecutive Years Of Death In Her Family, Lady Grateful For 2018
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Media personality Layole Oyatogun is grateful to God for experiencing 2018 without any reason to cry after 4 consecutive years of death in her family.

According to the lady, she lost 4 precious people to her between the years 2014 and 2017 and it was so saddening that the deaths occured each year.

But she is so grateful that 2018 passed and the family did not have any reason to visit the morgue nor any funeral home.

In her words:

4 years
4 Caskets
4 Burials
Consecutively, almost like it never missed the mark!!
Dad, Uncle, Step Mum, Mum
2014, 2015, 2016, 2017
As feeble as my believe system was and had started to wane, I painfully had to learn to constantly say- God your thoughts towards me are good and not evil.
God was kind and merciful to me in 2018
This is my 2018 Testimony! While others are grateful for cars, houses, money, career,
I’m GRATEFUL that there were NO tears;
No visit to Ebony caskets
No visit to a morgue
No visit to Ikoyi cemetery
It had to only be God!!!!! 2019 you hear me?...you will answer to Me! I will call things as though they were and they will be (for sure). As cliche as it may sound I believe it’s my year.
No hate,
No shame
All gain
Cheers to 2019 Fam!

Minimum Wage: NLC Begins Indefinite Strike Jan. 8
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-02-2019, 06:45 PM - No Replies

Following the inability of the Federal Government to urgently transmit the bill on the new national minimum wage to the National Assembly, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has set Jan. 8 as date for the commencement of an indefinite nationwide strike.

NLC President Comrade Ayuba Wabba said the strike would be inevitable if nothing happened before the set date.

He appealed to workers across the nation to support the action to succeed in the interest of their social and economic prosperity.

Wabba called on Federal Government to urgently transmit the bill on the new national minimum wage to the National Assembly for a speedy passage.

He said: “It is unfortunate that the Federal Government is yet to transmit to the National Assembly an executive bill for the enactment of N30,000 as the new national minimum wage.

“Government’s dilly-dallying on the issue has strained Government-Labour relations with a potential for a major national strike which could just be days away.

“I want to appeal to the government to do the needful by urgently transmitting the bill on the new national minimum wage to the National Assembly.

“We also would like to use this same opportunity to urge workers to fully mobilise for a prolonged national strike and enforce their right.”

Explaining the strike becomes inevitable the last option for labour, the NLC president called on all Nigerians and businesses to understand and support it.

He however assured workers that their labour, patience and diligence would not be in vain.

Wabba said the NLC leadership remains committed to giving all it takes to ensure workers get just and fair wages in a decent work environment appropriate to their well-being.

He added that the NLC leadership is similarly committed to social protection for workers.

“The new year presents great opportunities for workers, pensioners, civil society allies and their friends and families to put their numbers to good use.

“This is by voting out, not on the basis of tribe or religion but purely policy, any candidate that cannot serve their interest.

“In the year that is ahead of us, the NLC remains unequivocally committed to the national and workers’ goals which include the campaign for industrialisation, against selective enforcement of “No Work, No Pay” policy of government, among others,” he said.

Fashola's Ministry of power reportedly budgets N168m for generators and fuel in 2019

As the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing strives to improve the country’s power supply, it is also making budgetary proposals for the purchase, maintenance and fuelling of generators at its headquarters and various agencies.

The 2019 budget proposal revealed that at the headquarters of the power ministry, a total sum of N26.6m was budgeted for maintenance of plants/generators, while plant/generator fuel cost was put at N16.3m.

An analysis of the 2019 budget proposal of the FMPWH that was recently submitted by President Buhari to the National Assembly showed that the ministry and its agencies had proposed to spend N167.96m this year on the purchase, maintenance and fuelling of generators/plants.

Nigeria currently generates and distributes an average of 4,000 megawatts of electricity and the sector is still suffering from a serious liquidity crisis despite being privatised since November 1, 2013.

The 2019 budget proposal revealed that at the headquarters of the power ministry, a total sum of N26.6m was budgeted for maintenance of plants/generators, while plant/generator fuel cost was put at N16.3m.

The FMPWH headquarters also made a budget proposal of N50m for the purchase of generators. The National Rural Electrification Agency proposed to spend N488, 000 on the maintenance of plants and generators, while N1.55m was budgeted as fuel cost for its plants and generators.

In its 2019 budget proposal, the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency’s headquarters proposed to spend N2m on maintenance of plants and generators. It plans to spend N4m to fuel the plants and generators in 2019. The National Power Training Institute made a proposal of N1.5m for the maintenance of plants and generators and intends to spend another N1.5m for the fuelling of the equipment.

The Nigeria Electricity Liability Management Limited proposed N2.3m and N3.31m for the maintenance and fuel cost of plants/generators respectively, while the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, under the works arm of the FMPWH, proposed N3.1m and N5.84m for the maintenance and fuelling of its plants/generators

Boko Haram: Why I Haven’t Criticised Buhari Despite Borno’s Worsening Insecurity
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-02-2019, 06:03 PM - No Replies

The Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, on Monday night held what the government called an extraordinary security meeting to discuss the worsening security situation in the state.

At the meeting, the governor admitted that the security situation in the troubled state was getting worse of recent. He, however, said he could not blame President Muhammadu Buhari for the situation unlike how he blamed ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

The meeting was convened by the state government on the heels of recent coordinated attacks and capture of territories, including military formations, by Boko Haram insurgents.

Though the military has repeatedly denied claims that communities and soldiers have been dislodged by the rampaging Boko Haram insurgents, people in their hundreds have, since last week, been fleeing their homes into Maiduguri, the state capital.

The influx of men, women and children into Maiduguri, as well as reports of many dying on the way, have triggered tension in the state with concerns among citizens calling for drastic action to be taken by the government.

It was based on this that Mr Shettima convened the Monday night security meeting that involved almost all sectors, including security agencies, the media and legal practitioners.

Mr Shettima delivered a lengthy remark at the opening of the meeting that held at the multipurpose hall of Government House, Maiduguri, detailing why the security meeting was expedient.

He specifically admonished the attendees not to engage in blame games over the perceived failure of the soldiers which he said would be unfair giving the enormous sacrifices they have made in the last seven years.

He also explained why he refused to condemn President Muhammadu Buhari’s handling of the Boko Haram crisis.

“…unlike in previous years when I was treated as an enemy of the Presidency, I have from 2015 to date, gained unfettered access to the President,” Mr Shettima said.

The late night security meeting was the first of its kind that had representatives of many groups and associations including traditional rulers.

After the initial remarks by the governor, journalists were told to leave the meeting and not to expect a communique. The other attendees went into a closed-door session to deliberate and fashion out counter strategies of tackling the Boko Haram resurgence.

Read Mr Shettima’s full speech below:

“Your royal highnesses and our elders, I will like to start by saying that the aim of convening this important meeting is not to pass blames or to pass any kind of verdict on our security agencies.

“I think the most inhuman way to go is to gather and condemn those who are putting their lives on the line and giving their lives in efforts to find peace. ‎

“We are principally here as a family, as a people all affected by the situation in Borno State, to discuss suggestions that will hopefully contribute to combined ongoing efforts towards addressing the problem.

“For seven years, we held our regular security council meetings. I from to time consult with some of the participants here. However, I never for once convene an extraordinary meeting of this nature because, frankly speaking, I was avoiding a sort of dramatisation or being sensational about our challenges in Borno State.

“Without being insensitive to the realities of our situation, I feel deeply pained whenever Borno is being discussed on the basis of helpless weakness. I prefer to assume a position of strength; a position of normalcy and a character of being incurably optimistic. It was in these regards that we created a full-fledged Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement and deployed enormous public resources to rebuild more than 30,000 homes of citizens, hospitals, water installations, local government secretariats, schools and palaces of traditional rulers.

“It was with the same mind that we kept on pushing for voluntary and dignified return of displaced citizens to safe and rebuilt communities.

“My greatest wish was and still is, not to bequeath Boko Haram challenges and IDP Camps to my successor. We wanted to, and still want to get Borno fully back to normal days. Sometimes, I unconsciously find myself boasting that Borno is safer than Lagos. I simply feel very bad to sound pessimistic about Borno. I so much believe in optimism.

“Of course, I know that in governance, responding to some situations demand a combination of being both optimistic and realistic.

“The realities, Your Royal Highnesses, invited participants, is that while so much was achieved by our gallant military men and women, we are today faced with serious challenges in Borno State. But then, these challenges should strengthen our abiding faith and resolve to continually do whatever we can, in support of our military, the police, the DSS, our Civilian JTF, all para-military agencies and political authorities at the federal level, to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

“I have met the President a number of times, including few weeks ago. I have led our national assembly members to the president and in all our discussions, we all saw on the face, in words and actions of the President, absolute sincerity in terms of his deep concern, his empathy and his compassion towards our plight in the northeast, particularly in Borno.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is without the slightest doubt, devoted to the fight against Boko Haram. I believe that service chiefs, the IGP, the DG of DSS and heads of all para-military agencies share the commitment of Mr President.

“Most importantly, troops in the front lines, have with their own lives, proved their commitment in the service of our country and in obedience to the President, Commander In Chief. The President has mobilised world leaders in support of Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram. He has fostered regional cooperation and he supports troops.

“Some persons have asked why I have not criticised the Buhari government or the Nigerian military over situations in Borno. My response to them is that unlike in previous years when I was treated as an enemy of the Presidency, I have from 2015 to date, gained unfettered access to the President. I see the Commander-In-Chief at the shortest request and I tell him my concerns, he listens to me with keen interest and in most cases, he takes measures. I have not had reason to be frustrated with the Presidency, unlike previous years.

“Let me say that even under the previous administration, I regularly supported and defended the military. When I said in February 2014, that the military was not being well equipped, it was not a comment by design, it was a spontaneous reaction which came out of frustration and it was in defence of the soldiers being killed in front lines. I knew the problems.

Some people have said I was later vindicated. Nigerians can bear witness that from 2011 to date, I prefer to speak from a position of strength rather than a position of hopelessness.

“I prefer to inspire our military and citizens. I prefer to make security matters as discrete as possible. There were times I managed to see the former President but our meetings were always under rush. There were times I resorted to writing him for the record. I remember one specific instance I wrote a strong letter in 2013, over serious concerns raised by the Nigerian Air Force command in Borno State, and I have to admit that President Jonathan took immediate measures on that.

“As a state government, we have done and will continue to do everything humanly possible in support of the fight against Boko Haram. We have given very serious financial, moral and political support to the counter-insurgency. All security agencies and the federal government (including the previous Jonathan administration) have strongly acknowledged the role of the Civilian JTF in the successes recorded by the military.

“From 2013 to date, Borno State Government has been solely responsible for funding the Civilian JTF in terms of their training, their allowances, deployment, operational vehicles and their kits. We will continue to support the Civilian JTF, our military, the police and all other security agencies. We have secretly been engaging hunters in some areas without making noise. We believe security of lives is what makes government legitimate.

“Your royal highnesses, invited participants, everyone here has been playing one or more roles in the fight against Boko Haram. This fight is a collective one that affects all of us. We all have stakes in the peace and stability of Borno and this is why we chose to hold an extraordinary security meeting with carefully chosen participants. There are many important stakeholders that were not invited and it is not because they do not matter but because we wanted to minimize our number. We deliberately did not invite persons on individual basis in order to prevent perceptions or feelings of alienation. Even as this gathering is constituted, it is too large from a security point of view. Nevertheless, we are at a point in which we needed to convene a meeting of this nature so as to form a broader and more inclusive platform to listen to each other, to hopefully generate some new ideas.

“To chart a new course and to also rebuild public confidence. Leadership requires building and nurturing the hopes of citizens. Times like ours require all of us raising the hopes of citizens, but these hopes should not be blind ones. They should be based on the measures we take.

“Their Royal Highnesses are permanent leaders and custodians of our communities. We politicians come and go, royal fathers do not have tenure of office. Our elders here are the conscience of our communities. They stood for Borno when it was impossible to move freely in our state capital.

“Our national and state assembly members are representatives of our people. I do not think it is wise to see security as purely an executive thing. I believe in productive and strategic cooperation. We all need ourselves to move faster. The legislature is sometimes the most authoritative in relating with organs of the Federal Government.

“All the groups we invited have roles to play. We need the buy-in and ideas of the NLC, whose members have been victims in different places attacked. We need the NBA whose lawyers deal with issues of public rights including being defendants of suspects under prosecution and who should guide us. We need our retired military elders in the Nigerian Legion whose experiences of yesterday can be a benefit to this gathering. We invited journalists. We need the NUJ leadership to as stakeholders, help us manage information in ways that will help the state and not destabilize it.

“I have in the course of work realized that the best way to relate with journalists is to sometimes take them into confidence. We invited unions of transport and road workers whose hundreds of members move around the state and have come across different security situations. They see so much on the roads. We invited representatives of our tertiary institutions, religious leaders and management of markets for us to think ahead of insurgents. Knowing the Boko Haram, they may send our minds to the north while planning to head the south.

“We need to strengthen security measures in schools, mosques and churches, markets and all public places across Borno State. We should not be taken unawares. We invited the council on women societies because women and our children constitute the largest number of traumatized and displaced victims of the Boko Haram insurgency. They bear the brunt.

“Your royal highnesses, elders, national and state assembly members, heads of security establishments, members of the state executive council, chairmen, representatives of various groups, I will like to appeal to all of us that our meeting should not be driven by emotions. We should speak with logic. We should see all of here as stakeholders with genuine interest in the peace and security of Borno. We should speak with mutual respect and with trust in the sincerity of each other. Our focus should largely be about finding solutions. We all know the situation of things. Let us as a family with equal stakes, suggest solutions that will insha’Allah, contribute to addressing our problems.

“I wish us a meaningful meeting and not a tea party. I will at this point thank and request our friends in the media to allow us hold a closed-door meeting. I will like to say also that we are not issuing a communique. Whatever we resolve will be transmitted to the President, Commander In Chief in writing and not for public consumption.”
