RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY, 23RD JULY.

BRING GOOD THINGS TO PASS

A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment (Matthew 12:35-36).

In Proverbs 16:29-30, the Bible says, “A violent man…shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.” Think about that! It says the evil man shuts his eyes and devises evil; moving his lips, he brings them to pass. In other words, he uses his imagination to devise wickedness, and establishes them with his mouth. It’s talking about the principle of meditation; it works both in the positive and in the negative.

God is showing us how the evil mind works, and therefore, how good works. Just as an evil man can work this principle and produce results, a good man can also put the principle to work and produce good results. That means you can use your imagination; shut your eyes and devise wonderful and glorious things.

Practise this. Your imaginative power is your creative ability. Every so often, shut your eyes, and meditate; contrive pictures of great things; possibilities from the Word of God, and begin to speak them forth. Use this principle to create a beautiful life for yourself and those around you.

It’s one of the many reasons and benefits of prayer, because when you pray, you see visions of the Spirit. When you see those visions, write them down, and bring them to pass with your faith-filled proclamations.

We read in our opening verse that a good man, out of the abundance of his heart, brings forth good things. All the good things you desire in life are already inside you. See, and bring them forth with your words. They already exist in the realm of the spirit, but your words give them tangibility.

CONFESSION

My imaginative power is my creative ability. Therefore, as I pray in the spirit, the pictures of my glorious life in Christ flood my mind, and as I speak, they become real. There’re no impossibilities with me; I live the glorious and triumphant life in Christ. Hallelujah!

#TALKINGSESSION

23RD JULY.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Father, I thank You for the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in my life, who teaches me the Word and unveils the realities of the Kingdom to me. I am alive unto God, I walk by faith, and not by sensory perception! I live from my spirit; thus, the circumstances of life are subdued before me. I live on God’s terms;

I reason with the mind of Christ, and my outlook on life is from the perspective of the Word which has given me wisdom and mind-set of the righteous. I speak the wisdom of God always, and declare excellence in my health, job, finances, and family. I am ushered into newer and greater levels of glory, victory and success, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

Repentant Boko Haram members can become President - Nigerian Army General

The General Officer Commanding the 7 Division, Major General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu says that repentant Boko Haram fighters can become the president of Nigeria.

Major General Biu during an interview with newsmen in Maiduguri on Sunday, called on Boko Haram fighters to surrender unconditionally and further pointed out the benefits of surrendering which include leadership opportunities.

Quote:He said, “Boko Haram should lay their arms unconditionally and be accepted. Opportunities are out there for them, they can be rehabilitated.
“An ex Boko Haram having laid his arms and turned away from his negativity, stands to be a president of this country; he stands to aspire to any position in this country.
“Why is he wasting his time when he cannot even deliver?
“As a professional soldier we would continue to do what we know best and that is to project our determined effort, we would not be distracted by some of the activities of our detractors and some of the collaborators.
“Nigeria deserves peace, Northeast deserves peace and the people of Borno deserve peace because it is only when there is peace there will be development.”

Amnesty International blames police for bloody Shi'ites protest

Amnesty International Nigeria has blamed the police for the bloody Shi'ites clash that happened in the Federal Capital City Abuja yesterday July 22nd.

In a statement released by Seun Bakare, the programme manager at Amnesty International Nigeria, the body condemned the police for opening fire on ''unarmed'' Shi'ites members.
According to the statement, six persons were killed in the cross fire. Read the statement below

Quote:“Eyewitnesses have told us that six people were shot dead amid a reckless use of lethal force by the Nigerian police against unarmed supporters of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN).

This new crackdown is part of a shocking pattern in which security forces have used live ammunition to disperse IMN supporters who are simply exercising their freedom of expression.

“Images of IMN supporters being driven from the streets of Abuja with gunfire demonstrates once again the Nigerian authorities’ resolve to use lethal force rather than the rule of law in addressing the grievances of the IMN.

“The Nigerian authorities must promptly investigate in an independent and impartial manner the police shootings and bring to justice all those suspected of criminal responsibility in fair trials. The police must exercise restraint at all times and use force only when strictly necessary'' the statement reads

The North is tolerating Buhari because he is from the region – Shehu Sani

The North is tolerating Buhari because he is from the region – Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the red chamber in his speech at a conference held to prepare Emerging Leaders in Kaduna on Monday, alleged that President Buhari is being tolerated by notherners because he is from the region.

According to the former APC Chieftain, Buhari has not been held accountable by the North even with the killings and destruction of  property in the region. Shehu Sani stated that when power moves to the South, the North is always good at holding leaders accountable, but they are however silent when it moves to the north.

Quote:“The North is tolerant of bad government because Buhari is in government and he is from the North.
“When power move to the South, the North is good  at  holding leaders to account and when it moves to the North, we keep silent.
“We are shy. We are cautious.  We are afraid of telling our own that the road in the North is bad. We are more courageous to tell the truth  when the President doesn’t come from our region.
“Questioning President Buhari is more sympathetic when people are killed in the South-West than in the North, and this is because, they (South) are holding him to account. Here in the North, you don’t because they are shy. They believe he is infallible and  that he cannot be called to question" he said.
Sani added, “If 50 people are  killed in Katsina and  the representative of the state is not ready to stand up in the Senate to talk about his people being killed, then it will go on and nobody will know. But if  (Pa reuben) Fasoranti’s daughter is killed and  a representative from Fasoranti stood up and say I Senator blah blah stand up to  condemn the murder, the nation and the world will know.
“But if your people are dying here and the people you elected are afraid of being embarrassed and they don’t want to be categorized as been disloyal and be seen in the bad book, they  will kill as many as possible and the perception of people outside is that all is well. So, the North must not be docile because one of  their  own is in office.
“For this country to survive, President Buhari must listen to the voices of reason. You may not like the face of Wole Soyinka, Balarabe Musa, and Obasanjo,  but read through the contents of what they have written and see where adjustments can be made.”

: President Buhari Moves To Proscribe Shiites After Protest That Turned Violent

Quote:EXCLUSIVE: Buhari considers proscription of Shiite IMN in Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari is considering the proscription of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), PREMIUM TIMES has learnt from security and administration sources.

The proscription, which is likely to come in form of an executive order, is expected to be made public between tonight and tomorrow, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.
An emergency meeting of security chiefs held at the State House late Monday afternoon, and the conclusion was that the IMN will be declared an illegal organisation in Nigeria.

It is a direct response to the protests that turned violent Monday when members of Shiite IMN took over the streets of central Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
The demonstration was billed as just another instalment of relentless agitation for the release of Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, a foremost Nigerian Shiite cleric who was taken into custody four years ago.

It, however, ended with casualties, including the death of a deputy police commissioner. The IMN said 11 of its members were killed during the violence.
Presidential spokespersons, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu, did not immediately return requests for comments about the president’s consideration of a Shiite proscription on Monday night.

Mr El-Zakzaky was arrested following an invasion of his residence in Zaria, northern Nigeria, between December 12-14, 2015.

The official death toll of the invasion, which was carried out by Nigerian soldiers in the dead of the night, was 347 for Shi’a adherents. The IMN said the official death toll was grossly downplayed and insisted more than 1,000 of its members were killed in that single attack.

The military said the protesters had attempted to block the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, from the free passage on a highway that runs through the Shi’a headquarters in Zaria in the evening of December 12, 2015, and soldiers had no choice but to open fire when the Shiites became unruly.

The IMN strongly disputed the military’s account, saying its members were peaceful during the encounter.

They also questioned why the Nigerian Army deployed heavily armed soldiers, bulldozers and excavators to demolish both the headquarters and Mr El-Zakzaky’s residence in an operation that lasted two days.
A panel of enquiry constituted by the Kaduna State Government indicted Nigerian Army officers for the massacre, and also recommended the prosecution of some IMN leaders for various offences.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai accepted the conclusions of the judicial panel, but partially implemented its recommendations by proscribing the Shiite movement in Kaduna State.

No action was taken against the military officers indicted by the panel.
A separate investigation into the violence has been ongoing at the United Nations, with preliminary findings revealing that the Nigerian government has questions to answer.

Mr El-Zakzaky and his members have instituted several court cases against the government for his detention, and an order for his release had been handed down by a federal court.

However, the government has been reluctant to obey the order, citing national security and the cleric’s safety.
A few days ago on July 10, federal lawmakers also passed a resolution for the Buhari administration to honour court orders and release the cleric. They expressed fears that Nigeria’s security crisis could get even more complicated if IMN members become radicalised over the prolonged incarceration of their leader and deadly confrontations with security forces.
The cleric was taken away from the public’s view, alongside his wife, Zeenah, who was arrested with him on December 14, 2015.

He was only allowed a brief appearance before television cameras at the headquarters of the State Security Service in Abuja, where he had been detained for the most of his incarceration.

A few months ago, the cleric was transferred to Kaduna and arraigned on criminal charges. But widespread protests for his release continued almost every other day since his arrest.

The protesters have encountered deadly response from Nigerian security forces, which had led to hundreds of deaths.

In October 2018, dozens of Shiites were killed when Nigerian soldiers responded to a procession with live ammunition.
Security agencies, however, denied using disproportionate force, saying the Shiites were the aggressors and they would not be allowed to take over the Nigerian capital and unleash violence on citizens.
Groundwork laid

The Buhari administration has long categorised IMN as a violent group and encourages the use of force to suppress its agitations.

“This proscription will put an end to the madness of Shiites in Nigeria,” one of the official sources who confirmed the discussion on the executive order for proscription told PREMIUM TIMES Monday night.
Another source said Mr Buhari would cite the Terrorism Prevention Act to ban the Shiite movement in Nigeria. The law was introduced under President Goodluck Jonathan to proscribe Boko Haram as a terrorist organisation and intensify the crackdown on its members.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the police have concluded that they might not be able to contain Shiite protesters in Abuja any longer. But the administration had now become reluctant to deploy soldiers to crush protests in downtown Abuja because of its negative perception.
Sources said Mr Buhari sympathised with the situation the police have found themselves on the Shiite crisis but was also concerned about what Nigerians would say should he proscribe yet another group for its antagonistic tactics.

“The judgement is called for,” a source said. “But the presidency is probably concerned that people will say: so why not Fulani Herdsmen, too?”
Our sources spoke under anonymity because they were not authorised to disclose the development before a formal announcement by the administration.

If gazetted, the IMN will be the second organisation to be proscribed by Mr Buhari, who assumed office in May 2015 and was declared the winner of a second term this March. The government had declared the separatist Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) a violent group in 2017 and proscribed its activities across Nigeria.

It was not immediately clear how the IMN would respond to its proscription if announced.
A spokesperson for the movement said a decision would be taken after official announcement by the administration

Lawyer to the Dakolos, Mr Femi Falana, made the revelation during a telephone conversation with The PUNCH on Monday.

Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, told our correspondent that the IG had assured that justice would be done in the matter.

While denying that the police authorities had refused to act on the Dakolos’ petition, the human rights lawyer said the case would be brought to Lagos because the family were the first to petition the police.

POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN a.k.a Shiites have released a statement alleging that 11 of their members were shot dead and 30 others injured by the Police during a clash with security officers at the National Assembly on Monday.

The group, in a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA, signed by its media chief, Ibrahim Musa, also denied shooting at police officers, claiming that since they began protesting for the release of the leader, Shiekh Ibrahim El-zakzaky, they have never carried arms. The statement read;"Abuja today yet again witnessed one of the worst cases of blatant trampling of the rights of citizens ever seen in the Federal Capital, when joint security forces consisting of both uniformed men and officers of the Nigerian Police Force and others in mufti, unleashed their fury on a Free Zakzaky protest by members of the Islamic Movement."

"The procession, attended by several thousands of persons, including very young children, the aged, women and the physically challenged, met with an extreme rage indicative of deep-seated animosity the Nigerian authorities bear for the Movement."

"What actually happened was that the protesters started the procession from NITEL junction and on getting to federal secretariat the police cordoned off the road and started firing at them."

"A lot of people have been shot but for now we can only confirm 11 deaths, but several are injured, the figure, for now, stood at 30. Though we are aware of the fact that the security agents have been going around taking off those they killed from the streets."

"Even some seriously injured persons that were taken to Abuja University Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada; the police went there and took away about 11 people they shot during the protest."

"We strongly dispute the claim by the police that the protesters shot at them because throughout our processions we have not been carrying any arms right from 2015 to date. It was also the police who shot at the Reporter of Channels TV, another indication that many innocent people were shot at by the police, including some of their own."

"In this era so social media the brutality displayed by the police today has been captured with some pictures showing the police setting up the bonfires and there are videos that captured the police carting away their victims."

We Will Not Tolerate Fulani Vigilante In Ondo - State Government

Quote:by Damisi Ojo, Akure

Ondo State Government on Monday observed with concern trending pictures of identity card carrying men identified as Fulani vigilante in the Akoko area of the state.

Various claims reveal the activities, duties as well as supposed mandate of these men in question.

A statement by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo said; “It is pertinent to recall that at the height of the incessant kidnap cases, the Ondo State Government took some far-reaching drastic measure.

“This included a marching order to the law abiding Hausa Fulani leadership in the area to fish out criminal elements among them who took advantage of the rosy relationship between the indigenes and their law-abiding guests.

“As a measure to curb and possibly, stamp out cases of kidnap in the area, the Hausa Fulani leadership was directed to select a handful of trusted men amongst them who could serve as tour guards in the thick forest as security agencies prepared to comb the forests. This measure yielded results.

“It is important to note however, that while Government appreciates the efforts of those who volunteered to provide information and served as tour guards to the security agencies in the ongoing operations in the area, it will not tolerate any unathorised move by any group to take an undue advantage of the current state of insecurity in the country.

“Succinctly, Government, having been unaware of any such identity card carrying persons in the name of a vigilante group, has directed security agencies to get to the root of the matter and apprehend any such person or group of persons operating in that manner,” the statement stressed.

We are in total disagreement with assumptions of security collapse in the country - Presidency says, blames previous administrations

The Presidency says it disagrees with the assumption in certain quarters that there is a security collapse in Nigeria.

President Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, while speaking on a Channels Television programme, Sunday Politics, alleged that some of the security challenges being witnessed predated the Buhari administration. He also added that the Government is on top of the security situation in the country, pointing out that order has been restored in the North Central and Niger Delta region.

Quote:“We are in total disagreement with the assumptions of collapse of security in the country,” Mr Shehu said.
“The government is on top of the security situation in the country because we have calmed down North Central and Niger Delta.”
“Security challenges have been present before the present administration came to office. We have met our own challenges and we are dealing with them as decisive as we can,” he added.

This is coming after the Buhari administration suffered a backlash over its alleged ineffectiveness in stopping the killings and kidnap cases recorded in various parts of the country.

Develop livestock industry instead of searching for oil in North – Fulani Herdsmen tell Buhari

President Buhari's search for oil in Northern Nigeria suffered a major knock, as Fulani herdsmen under the umbrella of Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) accused him of wasting resources.

Speaking on behalf of the group in Damaturu on Monday, National President of the association, Khalil Mohammed Bello, stated the resources used in the oil search can be used to develop the livestock sector and in turn boost the country's revenue.

Quote:“One cannot compare renewable resources with natural deposits such as petroleum resources, which can be replaced with several alternative sources of energy such as biofuel, electricity, solar etc to motorise our engines.
“We are all aware that, no matter how abundant country’s petroleum resources is one day the resources will be exhausted or replaced by another source of energy more especially as the entire World now is crying of climate change and air pollution, mainly caused by heavy duty industries that are using petroleum resources for their daily operations.
“And even if petroleum resources are not replaced with other sources of energy, it will one day finish, and that is why whenever new petroleum well or wells are discovered, geologists or experts in the petroleum explorations usually state, when that petroleum is expected to be exhausted,” Bello disclosed.

The group also noted that the Northern region of Nigeria, can do better as it did during colonial era and in the First Republic without petroleum. It backed its claim with plans by Saudi Arabia to diversify its economy and reduce dependency on petroleum resources.

Quote:“At this juncture, we want to reiterate what we have earlier said that by making this comparison or analysis we are not discouraging government or petroleum Companies from making oil exploration in the Northern part of our country, we are only stating facts as well as saying that let oil exploration be given third position in the North, after livestock and arable farming.
“We said so for the fact that, we know if to say part of the billions Naira expended for oil exploration in the North, is been spent judiciously for the development of agriculture, reclaiming our land encroached by desertification through massive three planting and production of posture and water points for both livestock and arable farming will develop to the extent that Northern Nigeria can feed the entire African States,” the KACRAN President asserted.

Former presidential candidate in the February 2019 election,, Kingsley Moghalu, says Nigerian youths cheat themselves by deciding against voting and choosing to follow reality television shows like Big Brother Naija.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stated this in a tweet posted this morning. He berated Nigerian youths for choosing to ‘spend their time on the wrong things on social media’ instead of investing in knowledge.

Quote:“Our youth cheat themselves when they don’t vote, spend their time on the wrong things on social media, follow the glitterati (@BBNaijafan) instead of the literati (knowledge), and vote, not for ‘ought to win’ but ‘likely to win’ (bandwagon to nowhere, i.e. one chance!),” he wrote

42 year old mother of four shot dead by armed robbers after police allegedly seized her car from her during stop and search in Delta state

A 42 year old mother of four, Grace Ogochukwu Dagbo, was killed by suspected armed robbers in Ovwian, Delta state on Saturday July 20th.

A niece of the deceased, Dr Ify Nwajei, yesterday shared the sad story on Twitter, alleging that the victim was killed by trigger-happy police officers, an account of the event that has been disputed.

Activist Harrison Gwamnishu who paid a visit to the Family house in Delta state yesterday July 21st, said the deceased was not killed by police officers but rather by suspected armed robbers. According to Gwamnishu, the deceased and her 9 year old daughter were driving home at about 9pm when they were flagged down by police officers carrying out a stop and search exercise.

After searching her car, the officers asked for the papers of her tinted Sienna bus. She gave it to them but they however asked for the permit for her tinted glass. She responded saying she did not have it and that she has been driving the car for many years without any of such requests. An argument ensued and the officers asked her to come down from the vehicle. One of them took over the wheels and drove it to their station, leaving the woman and her 9 year old child stranded on the road.

Mrs Dagbo and her child decided to take a Tricycle home and then return the next day to negotiate for the release of their car. Sadly, the tricycle they boarded was being operated by armed robbers who in their bid to snatch her bag from her, shot her dead, leaving her corpse on the road.

The deceased would have been a year older today July 22nd.

The police officers who had an encouter with the deceased have been arrested and are now being interrogated at the Burutu area command in the state.

Christians are expected to pray for their enemies including insurgents- Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has adviced Christians to always pray and show love to their enemies including insurgents as this is what God expects of them.

Osinbajo gave the advice when he spoke in Lagos at the National headquarters of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Nigeria yesterday Sunday July 21st. According to Osinbajo, he is always shocked when men of God speak bitterly about their enemies.

Quote:“The gospel of Jesus Christ is a contrarian gospel because it does not agree with our flesh. The Bible for instance says we must pray for our enemies, bless those who curse us and even those who persecute us.  But our flesh says we should curse those who curse us. In fact, curse them so much that they will not again dare to curse. The Scriptures say we should not revenge. The power of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ lies in that very contrarian nature. The gospel speaks to that which we do not want to accept.

I have seen as I travel around the country how God’s love is demonstrated by other people, ordinary Christians.   A  woman whose two children were killed and her father was also injured in the North East. I spoke to her and she said, we still must pray for these people.  These people are the people to whom we have been called. I was surprised. I have heard leaders of our faith who speak with such bitterness.

When I heard this woman who had lost her two children speak, I knew she spoke from the very depth of the grace that God gives to those who truly believe in him and I know it is that kind of love that can conquer all situations and win souls and win over the worst of men and the worst of women. It is that exceptional kind of love that Christ himself taught us. But it is so difficult. Yet that is the gospel.” he said

Those injured were looking lifeless when our correspondent visited the scene on Monday. Live ammunition was fired at the protesters as they advanced toward the Eagle Square leading to commotion and pandemonium in the area.

Good luck!

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY 22 JULY 2019

"KNOWING HIS WILL"

…that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding (Colossians 1:9)

If you were in a difficult situation and understood that you were right in the centre of God’s will, you’d be unperturbed, irrespective of the consequences. But those who don’t know thewill of God often get ruffled by circumstances. They become worried and exasperated when they face challenges.

It’s important that you know and walk in God’s perfect will at all times. You may ask, “Is it really possible to know the will of God?” Absolutely! You’re His offspring. Jesus said it’s given to you to know the will of the Father—the mysteries of the Kingdom. In other words, it’s your right to know them.

Moreover, as you study the Word, the Father’s heart, His thoughts, plans and purposes are unveiled to you. His light dawns in your heart; there’s an unveiling of truth; revelation is granted you.
The Spirit of God, praying through the Apostle Paul in our opening verse, expresses this as God’s desire for His children. He doesn’t want anyone of us in doubt as to what He wants. He wants us to have full, deep, and clear knowledge of His will; not confused about anything in life.

A whole lot of people are in frustration, fear and anxiety, because they don’t know what to do; what steps to take. But it shouldn’t be so for you. The Bible says in Hosea 6:3, “Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD….”

Be diligent to study God’s Word, and as you do, the Holy Spirit, the unveiler of mysteries, will grant you insight into the mysteries and secrets of success. He’s the Spirit of truth, and He guides us into all truth and reveals to us things to come (John 16:13).
Having received the Holy Spirit, you have the capacity and the power to know the full, precise, and accurate will of the Father. He also grants you the understanding of how to apply the knowledge you’ve received.

Spend more time in the Word of God. As you meditate on the Word, the Holy Spirit will bring its reality to light in your life.

PRAYER

Precious Lord, how grateful I am for the privilege of having the Holy Spirit live in me, helping me enjoy the blessings that are mine in Christ Jesus. I declare that I’m walking in your perfect will, because I’m forever led and guided by the Spirit, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Ephesians 1:15-17

17- that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,_

Robbery suspect who operates in 'army uniform' arrested in Ogun State (Photo)

A robbery suspect identified as Egbeke Ifeoluwa, who operates in Army uniform on Sango-Ijoko Road in Ogun State, has been arrested by the operatives of the Ogun State annex of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response team (IRT).

The suspect was the leader of a robbery gang that specialised in one-chance robbery in different parts of Ogun State and nearby states, adding that they carried out their operations anytime of the day.

Ifeoluwa, 25, wore Army uniform to intimidate the public and scare away law enforcement agents.  Following the gang’s operations, road users and residents gave intelligence report to the IRT annex in Sango on the nefarious activities of the gang. Based on the intelligence report, the IRT Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari, directed the Ogun State annex to arrest the hoodlums.

The Nation reports that the operatives swung into action and saw a commercial bus driver in an Army uniform plying the road. They stopped the bus with number plate XV 14 AKD and the driver, who was later identified as Egbeke Ifeoluwa, the wanted gang leader, was nabbed. His colleagues, however, escaped.

It was gathered that when the vehicle was searched by the operatives, they found one live ammunition, two jack knives, five military vests, one military beret, military gadget and one Navy ID card hidden under the bus seats. The suspect, who initially insisted that he was a soldier, later confessed that he was a fake soldier and the gang leader the police had been looking for.

He confessed that they usually hid their weapons and army uniforms under the vehicle’s seats and only wore them when they wanted to operate, noting that the uniforms helped to scare away the police and other security agents. On how he could assist the police to arrest his fleeing colleagues, he said it would be difficult to get them because none of them had permanent addresses or phone numbers.

Photo) $5M worth of gold seized by UK police at London's Heathrow Airport from a suspected South American drugs cartel

About £4 million ($5 million) worth of gold was seized at London's Heathrow Airport by Border Force officers as part of an international investigation into a suspected South American drugs cartel.

The gold, which weighed 104 kilograms (229 pounds), was on its way to Switzerland from the Cayman Islands when it was seized but no arrests were made, police said.

The UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) a governmental law enforcement organization reported that the gold was believed to have originated in Venezuela, from where it was transported to the Cayman Islands on a private jet. Border Force agents at Heathrow Airport subsequently moved in to detain the shipment when it arrived in the UK, based on intelligence provided by the NCA.

Quote:According to Steve McIntyre, NCA Heathrow branch commander, "We believe that this shipment was linked to drugs cartels operating out of South America. Working with partners overseas and in the UK, we were able to quickly identify it and stop its onward movement.
"The business model of many organized crime groups relies upon the ability to move money across borders, to fund further investment in criminal activity. If we can stop that it not only causes disruption to the criminal network involved and prevents them benefiting from crime, it also stops that re-investment."

We have only five days more to wait for President Buhari to submit the ministerial list before we proceed on two-month annual vacation - Senate

The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has indicated that it has only five days more to wait for President Buhari to submit the list of his ministerial appointees before it proceeds on its two-month annual vacation, according to the country’s legislative calendar.

In line with the calendar, the National Assembly is to go on its annual recess on July 26 and resume on September 26.

The Chairman, Senate ad hoc Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, said the red chamber would proceed on its annual two-month recess this week.

He said, “If the list does not come before Friday, the Senate will proceed on its annual recess.” He, however, clarified that the Senate was not issuing an ultimatum to the President on the matter, but was just keeping him abreast of the schedule of the National Assembly.

Quote:“We are not giving the president an ultimatum. The schedule of the Senate will go ahead if the Senate does not receive the list. The list is the only thing that can hold us back.”
Adeyeye said the President was at liberty to send the list whenever he pleased and that the Senate also had a duty to consider it in the overriding national interest.
Quote:“However, any time they submit the list, we will consider it. It is not our responsibility to put pressure on the President. We can be recalled whenever the list is submitted even if we are already on recess, in the overriding national interest”, he said.

Insecurity: Alaafin of Oyo writes Buhari, says Yoruba land under siege by Fulani herdsmen

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, wrote an open letter to President Buhari yesterday, July 21, 2019, over the insecurity explosion in different parts of the country.

The Oyo monarch in his letter title “Yoruba Question in Nigeria Conundrum”, blamed the insecurity almost on all highways in Yorubaland on Fulani herdsmen. Maintaining that his confidence in Buhari getting the situation under control remains unshaken, the Alaafin of Oyo added that the Yorubas have all it takes to defend itself if the situation does not improve.

Quote:“This has to do with the incessant and increasing menace of Fulani herdsmen that have laid siege in almost all the highways of Yoruba land. Whether in Owo, Akure, Ilesa/Ife-Ibadan road or Ibarapa zone and Ijebu area of Ogun State, the story is the same.
“I have held series of consultations with opinion moulders and eminent Yoruba leaders across board about the menace of these cattle herdsmen with such assault like raping of our women and in some occasions, in the presence of their husbands. That is apart from massive destruction of our agricultural lands; which ultimately points to imminent starvation," the letter read in part.

Rats ate dead baby’s ear at Anambra hospital – Police

The mystery surrounding the missing ear of a baby at the Victory Children’s Hospital, Onitsha, Anambra State, has been linked to canivorous rats.

A police report released on Sunday, cleared the hospital, its management and workers from blame over the 2015 incident which left the deceased baby's family thinking it was for a ritual purpose.

Quote:“This deals with a case of an alleged mutilation of a newborn baby girl’s ear reported to the Inspector-General of Police by Mr Solomon Igwe against Dr. Oliver Umeh, the owner, and staff of the Victory Children’s Hospital, Onitsha.
“On July 30, 2015, around 7.30am, Solomon Igwe, upon unwrapping the corpse, discovered that the right ear of the baby had been severed from the body.
“He reported to the Central Police Station, Onitsha, where he accused Dr Oliver Umeh as being responsible for the missing ear.
“While the investigation was ongoing, Dr Oliver Nnamdi felt dissatisfied with the police arrest and detention , and from one level of investigation to another as he was neither at the hospital during the admission/treatment and the death of the said baby hence, he petitioned the Inspector-General of Police.
“The said petition was subsequently forwarded to the Commissioner of Police, Homicide Section, for harmonisation and consolidation," the police report read in part.
It added “While investigation was ongoing, the parents made a demand for the sum of N10m for Dr Oliver Umeh to be vindicated, but he sensed a foul play and an attempt to extort and blackmail him using the then investigating team.
“Consequently, he wrote a counter petition to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, urging the transfer of the case to Abuja for an unbiased investigation.
“In the course of the investigation, statements of parties to the case were recorded and the scene of crime was visited. Detectives also viewed the corpse of the deceased baby.
“An autopsy was conducted on the remains of the deceased baby, but the parents contested the outcome.
“This occasioned the parents of the deceased baby to arrange for another pathologist, who conducted a second autopsy.
“In the course of investigation, it was established that Mr Solomon Igwe and his wife, Bridget, brought their five-day-old baby girl to the Victory Children’s Hospital, Onitsha, as a referral case from St. Mary’s Hospital, Okpoko Onitsha.
“It was also revealed that 45 minutes after their arrival, the baby died in the presence of the parents while on admission, but the parents could not collect the corpse on that fateful day, but on arrival for the collection of the corpse  the following day for burial, it was discovered that the deceased’s right ear had been severed; they alerted Dr Amadi Ifeanyi of the development and subsequently reported to the police.

Years after the police arrested some staff of the hospital, it was uncovered that rats actually ate the baby’s ear following results from the first and second post-mortem examinations conducted on the insistence of the father of the deceased baby.

Quote:“Consequently, this evidently resolved the contention as to the cause of death and the severed ear.
“There is nothing of evidential value linking Dr Oliver Umeh to the alleged crime in the course of investigation as no enough evidence abound on the allegation linking Dr. Oliver Umeh to any crime.”

The DeKalb County Police in Atlanta are searching for a man who has been robbing several businesses in an unusual disguise.

According to the department’s criminal investigative division, the man, who has not been identified, has robbed several Waffle Houses, two drugstores and a bank while wearing various hairpieces including long, flowing wigs.

In a Facebook post, Police accused the man of passing a note to a Waffle House waitress demanding money at the chain’s Lawrenceville Highway location in Tucker.

The note allegedly read “pass all the money,” authorities said.

After reading the note, the server ran from the register and the man fled the restaurant without getting any cash, police said.

Detectives have since linked him to similar robbery attempts at other Waffle Houses, a CVS, a Walgreens, a Dollar General and a PNC bank, authorities said.

Nigeria is heading towards anarchy if insecurity is not fixed - Femi Falana warns President Buhari

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana and former Governor of Kaduna State, Balarabe Musa have warned President Buhari to take pragmatic steps in tackling the insecurity and ethnicity brewing in the country as the nation is already heading towards anarchy.

A statement issued by the duo on Sunday said amid the cacophony of ethnic and regional voices, it was imperative that pan-Nigerian voices should be heard louder than ever before to save Nigeria from disintegration, stating that the symptoms of the brewing socio-political crisis were manifest.

They said the Nigerian state had failed to tackle the worsening insecurity plaguing every part of the country, stressing that Nigeria was increasingly being defined by insecurity, as killings had become almost a daily affair in Nigeria.

Quote:“Terror attacks, banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery are perpetrated by criminals with reckless abandon. In practical terms, no part of Nigeria is immune to violent crimes, although the incidence might be relatively higher in one part than the other at this time. Tragic news of lives wasted issues from the north and south, east and west.
In response to the flourishing crimes in the face of the worrisome incompetence of the state, ethnic and regional champions have resorted into the dangerous ethnic profiling and demonisation of others. It is the reign of hate speech and marketing of prejudice.
Claiming to speak for “our people,” they issue irresponsible ultimatums and orders for which they lack constitutional authority to enforce. Some of those who are supposed to act as statesmen at this critical hour have instead joined the ranks of issuers of prejudicial statements.
“The appropriate response to these sectional voices is not to glibly question the patriotism of any person or group. The effective response is to compel the Nigerian state under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari to perform the constitutional duty of keeping Nigeria secure.
Nigeria must not be turned into a killing field. The way to take the wind out of the sails of merchants of hate is for the government to confront the worsening insecurity in Nigeria squarely and honestly,” they said.
According to Falana and Musa, law enforcement and other security agencies should fight crimes competently and strictly according to the law and that in doing so, the ethnic and religious identity of the criminal was not of any importance, as ethnic and religious profiling could distract from the urgent task of stamping out crimes.

Femi Fani-Kayode clashes with Dele Momodu over President Buhari being the 'father of the nation'

Femi Fani-Kayode clashed with Dele Momodu over his comment of President Buhari being the 'father of the nation'.

The Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, in a tweet which was a response to the 'explosion' in different parts of the country, stated that only President Buhari can stop the killings because he is 'the father of the nation'.

Quote: “Only one man can stop the imminent explosion and that is the father of the nation, President Muhammadu Buhari" he tweeted.

The former Aviation Minister and PDP Chieftain however countered the claim, alleging that Presiden Buhari cannot stop the 'explosion' because he started it. He also addressed President Buhari as the 'father of the fulanis'.

Quote: “Buhari cannot stop the imminent explosion because he is the cause of it!
“Buhari is not the father of the nation: he is the father of the Fulani!”

Constituency Projects… N2tr Spent Since 2000 Without Results – ICPC
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 07-22-2019, 08:46 AM - No Replies

The Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, said the nation had spent about N2 trillion on constituency projects without commensurate development at the grassroots. Daily Trust reports that the ICPC recently started the first phase of tracking of constituency projects in 12 states of the federation in order to ensure quality projects delivery to constituents by their elected representatives.

The states are Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Kogi, Sokoto and Kano. Others are Imo, Enugu, Lagos, Osun, Akwa Ibom and Edo, with at least five projects awarded between 2016 and 2018 in each of the states. The commission’s spokesperson, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, in a statement in Abuja yesterday quoted the chairman as saying it at the induction of newly-qualified members of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors in Abuja. Owasanoye, while making emphasis on the ongoing tracking of constituency projects by the commission in 12 states, said that the exercise was not to witch-hunt anyone.

He said that tracking the projects was an important assignment for ICPC as the nation had spent about N2 trillion on the funding since 2000 without commensurate impact at the grassroots. Owasanoye, however, said that ICPC would not hesitate to prosecute any contractor that has failed to deliver on the projects, including accomplices. The chairman said that ICPC commenced the Constituency Projects Tracking Group (CPTG) initiative to ensure proper implementation of funded projects at the various constituencies across the nation.

He further said that the initiative was already yielding positive results as some contractors had gone back to site to complete unfinished projects. He, however, noted that the commission was collaborating with the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) in the on-going exercise.

Daily Trust reports that an assessment visit to Bauchi State by the ICPC recently uncovered how political feud between former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara stalled the use of completed health centres in Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro, which formed the constituency of the former Number 4 citizen.

At one of the health centres, located at Marti Bakin Kogi and Yaban Kufai community in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, the people said the centre, which was completed since 2016, has remained under lock and key with grass taking over the compound. They blamed the closure on the political disagreement between the former governor and the former speaker.

Also recently, the ICPC announced that it had recovered some equipment worth millions of Nigeria meant for a cottage hospital in Essien Udim Local Government of Akwa Ibom State, under the constituency project. Some of the recovered equipment included two 15 KVA generators, a dialysis machine and infant incubators.

The Akwa Ibom State ICPC Commissioner, Mr Shola Shodipo, who led journalists to evacuate the equipment from a private home and deliver them to the hospital, said the commission discovered that the items were meant to be delivered to the hospital in March last year. “In the course of our assignment, we discovered that three dialysis machines and other items for the Ukana Cottage Hospital were not delivered. We found only one in a private place, which was not delivered or installed in the hospital. “The items were found in that building that we went to.

These machines and other equipment were meant to be delivered since 2018. We have taken the items to the appropriate location. They are supposed to help the community in health care delivery,” Shodipo told journalists. Daily Trust reports that controversy has continued to dog the constituency projects, with allegations that members of the National Assembly have turned themselves to ‘contractors’ rather than focusing on their business of lawmaking.

It is also alleged that in the past that lawmakers were allowed to nominate companies, which they had interest on, to execute various projects in their constituencies. But the lawmakers see the idea as a legitimate attempt to “evenly spread projects in line with federal character.”

Apart from civil society groups, one of the most virulent critics of constituency project is former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was once quoted as saying: “You and I know what constituency projects mean. It is simply corruption.”

It is what I will continue to do in the future.  Alpha Femme Keto is as plain as water whenever I wanted to explain WLMS with you this evening. VPN Master Apk is entirely free that you never even have to place within your electronic mail or enroll your self as a way to utilize the program. You can find no frustrating bandwidth constraints . You may utilize the assistance just as far as you'd would like. However, it is going to reveal adverts at fixed intervals.   Army Places Hakeem Otiki Under House Arrest Over N400m Escort Soldiers Diverted
User Avatar Forum: News

Quote:The Nigeria army has placed Major General Hakeem Otiki under house arrest and close surveillance, Igbere TV has learnt.

Igbere TV reports that Maj. Gen. Otiki is the military officer whose N400 million was reportedly carted away by some escort soldiers, July 11.

Although instructed to load the money into a military jet for transport to Abuja, the soldiers failed to do so but instead shared it among themselves and disappeared.

They reportedly dropped their rifles, uniforms and other accouterments, and mobile phones before vanishing into thin air with the money.

Otiki was the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division, Sokoto, until his redeployment to the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, ASCON.

Military sources told Igbere TV that the Maj. Gen. is being held in the Officers Mess until he can be moved to Abuja for questioning over the sources of the N400 million.

It was gathered that men of the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI), Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), and Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police (NACMP), have been arranged for his special interrogation in Abuja.

He is reportedly being guarded by heavily armed soldiers who are carefully screening his visitors.

Explain the whereabouts of $1bn ECA security fund - PDP to President Buhari

Explain the whereabouts of $1bn ECA security fund - PDP to President Buhari

Main opposition Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to explain the whereabouts of an allegedly missing $1bn from the Excess Crude Account security fund.

Quote:The PDP in a statement today said, “the Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria draws the attention of Nigerians to the shocking confession by the National Security Adviser, Gen. Babagana Mongunu (rtd), that he is not aware of the whereabouts or disbursement of the $1bn drawn from the Excess Crude Account by the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency in 2017 for security purposes.
“This confession by the NSA, who coordinates the security architecture of the nation, directly places a huge burden on President Buhari’s doorsteps over reported stealing and diversion of funds meant for security, while insurgency, banditry, killings and kidnapping fester in the land under his watch.
“The revelation by NSA further vindicates our initial alarm that the APC-led administration is overtly corrupt, deceptive and unreliable in the handling of the affairs of our nation. It further validates the stance of the PDP that agents of the Buhari Presidency and the APC were hiding under the guise of security to siphon $1bn from the ECA.
“This, perhaps, informed the desperation by the cabal to draw from the account without recourse to statutory due process of appropriation by the National Assembly. From Gen. Mongunu’s confession, Nigerians can further see why our nation is daily confronted with disturbing videos and reports of our fighting troops protesting their neglect and inadequate equipping, leading to their vulnerability in the fronts.
“Now that the National Security Adviser has declared that he is not aware of the whereabouts of funds, the burden, straightaway, lies squarely on President Buhari to immediately address the nation on how the money was handled. This is especially as there are already allegations in the public space that certain funds meant for security were diverted for 2019 campaign activities of the All Progressives Congress, while our troops languished in the (war) front.
“Our party had always alerted Nigerians that the APC administration was insincere in the handling of the ECA fund, leading to our demand in 2017 for the National Assembly to investigate the handling of the $1bn. The Peoples Democratic Party hereby restates our demand that President Buhari allows for a system-wide investigation into the whereabouts of the $1bn, as well as the handling of other funds meant for security purposes under his watch.”

'Stop interfering in Obaseki’s government' - John Oyegun warns Oshiomhole

Former National chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun, has urged his successor, Adams Oshiomhole, to desist from interfering in the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State.

Odigie-Oyegun gave the advice in a statement signed by his Public Affairs Adviser, Ray Morphy, on Sunday in Abuja.

Quote:“I appeal to him (Oshiomhole) to stop disgracing the governing party APC and Edo State. He should give the governor a breathing space to concentrate in doing the job of serving the people of Edo.
“I wonder how he could easily forget that I never interfered or bothered about how he ran the government as the then governor of Edo, all the while I occupied the position of the party’s National chairman.
I am yet to come to terms with why it has become difficult for Oshiomhole to realise that Obaseki is the only APC governor in the entire South-south. And he should be allowed to concentrate in giving the people of Edo the dividends of democracy,’’ Odigie-Oyegun said.
He urged the Progressives Governors Forum not to stand aside and watch their fellow governor being hampered by a party chairman whose actions might lead to political misfortune of the party.

“I also appeal to the Progressives Governors not to stand aside and watch their fellow governor hampered by a party chairman whose actions may lead to political misfortune of the party in the state,’’ Odigie-Oyegun added.

Photos: Timi Dakolo and wife Busola hold press conference in Lagos. Timi 2reveals Busola told him about the rape incident for the first time last year

Timi Dakolo and his wife, Busola, this afternoon held a press conference in Lagos.

Speaking at the press conference, Timi revealed Busola told him about the rape incident last year. According to him, she had made several attempts to tell him about it but would stop until she summoned courage last year and opened up to him.

Timi said after Busola told him what happened, he was saddened that such a thing could happen to her in church. He then encouraged her to tell her story to the world no matter the repercussions. He vowed to be by his wife's side all through this journey.

The singer raised concerns on the manner in which the letter of summons was delivered to him and his wife yesterday Saturday July 20th by the police. Timi maintained that what happened at his house yesterday was nothing but intimidation. He wondered why the policemen will send armed men to come invite him and his wife for questioning.

He alleged threat to his life and family since Busola spoke out her truth. According to him, strange people have shown up at his place unnannounced at several times. He also said that some persons have also trailed himself and his wife whenever they go out.

He said his wife filed a petition against Fatoyinbo at the police station on June 27th, a day before the interview where she made the allegation was released.

He refuted claims that he is seeking financial gains with the rape saga. According to Timi, he is a singer who makes money from performances as well as collect royalties from some of his works. He also added that he writes songs for some foreign artistes and makes money from that.

Timi said there is a difference between a sin and a crime and that anyone who commits a crime must pay for it. He added that Nigerians have encourage the culture where victims of abuse are forced to keep quiet and carry the bargage to their matrimonial homes where they cannot even reveal such to their spouses.

Responding to the allegation that he had stated in a previous interview that he met Busola a virgin, Timi said he never made such a statement and finds it abnormal for him to sit with someone to discuss his wife's sexual history.

Addressing a question on how Busola was doing, the father of three said no one can say exactly how she is feeling but that she is currently seeing a pschologist who she can bare her mind to.

Also speaking at the press conference, the Executive Director of Enough is Enough Nigeria, Yemi Adamolekun, revealed that Timi's lawyers, Falana and Falana, will be sending a letter to the police tomorrow Monday July 22nd for clarity on the summons delivered on Saturday. According to her, the summon delievered yesterday had some inconsistency that needs to be cleared before Timi and Busola can respond to it.

The estranged husband of popular actress, Mercy Aigbe, Lanre Gentry, claims that she has returned to his house.

In an exclusive chat with PUNCH, Gentry stated that all the issues between him and his wife had been sorted out. Recall that the couple fell out in 2017 after Mercy alleged that Gentry usually assaulted and battered her. She moved out of his house and the Lagos State Department of Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team got involved in the case.

He said: “We are not in court and we don’t have any issues (again). She is my wife and the court case is over. She is back to my house.”

However, a close associate of Aigbe laughed off Gentry’s claims, saying he was just seeking attention. According to close source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, when she passed PHUNCH enquiries to Mercy to find out if she had indeed returned to her estranged husband’s house, the actress said, ‘What is wrong with Baba Juwon? And why are people still calling him to ask unnecessary questions? He just wants publicity. I stay in my own house.”

Rape: Amnesty International calls out Nigerian Police for invading Timi Dakolo's house

Amnesty International joined Nigerians in reacting to the alleged invasion of Timi Dakolo's house by armed policemen from Abuja, and according to them, it is a move to intimidate victims of sexual abuse.

The human rights agency raised an alarm over an alleged disturbing pattern, in which authorities respond to allegations of sexual abuse. It also recounted past incidents, in which victims of rape were reportedly subjected to arrest and intimidation by the Nigerian police.

The tweets reads;

Quote:Security and safety of Timi & Busola Dakolo rest with Nigerian authorities. Intimidating victims of sexual abuse using @PoliceNG is a new low in Nigeria’s spate of impunity.
Intimidating victims of sexual abuse using @PoliceNG is a new low in Nigeria’s spate of impunity. In Feb. armed SARS officers arrested Maryam Awaisu of #ArewaMeTooin Kaduna and dragged her to Abuja, at the instance of a person widely accused of rape & sexual abuse.
For too long, Nigeria’s women have been facing various kinds of sexual violence that seldom receives proper attention from the country’s law enforcement agencies. It is unacceptable that women seeking justice end up intimidated by Nigeria Police @PoliceNG
It is unacceptable that women seeking justice for sexual abuse are subjected to arrest and intimidation, by a unit of police whose remit is armed robbery. We fear that these actions may prevent victims of sexual violence from pursuing justice.
In the face of rising sexual abuse of women & girls across #Nigeria; for how long will women be continuously subjected to intimidation and forced silence in the face of injustice? When will the injustice end?
This pattern of Nigeria Police @PoliceNGdispatching anti-robbery squads to pick up victims of sexual abuse who refused to be silent is unacceptable.

Ruga: Buhari To Commission Bobi Grazing Reserve In Niger
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:By Laleye Dipo in Minna

Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will inaugurate the expanded 45,000 Bobi grazing reserve in the Mariga local government of the state.

The governor did not give the exact date the inauguration will take place but said finishing touches were being put to the development of the reserve including gazetting the project.

Governor Sani Bello was quoted as disclosing the plan when he received the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, during the latter’s visit to him at the Niger House in Abuja on Thursday.

A statement by Mary Noel Berje Chief Press Secretary to the governor said Bello disclosed that “the state government will, in the next three months, flag off its over 45,000 hectares grazing reserve in Bobi, Mariga Local Government Area of the State” adding that “government is also in the process of gazetting seven other grazing reserves in parts of the State

“We have about 20 grazing reserves in the state, only two (Bobi and Girin) have been gazetted but hopefully, overtime, we’ll develop others”

“There is no going back on the development of grazing reserves in the state because it is the best solution to curtail the Herders/Farmers conflict and also develop one of our areas of comparative economic advantage.

“We will develop our grazing reserves where we can keep the herders and provide the infrastructure so that they can get better yields with regards to milk and beef,” Governor Bello was quoted as saying.

In his remarks The CBN governor expressed the readiness of the bank to “provide a wide range of agricultural opportunities for the country by assisting state governments “not only in the areas of rice and cassava production but most importantly in the development of livestock and dairy business”.

The CBN Governor was also quoted as explaining that, “under the livestock and dairy development programme, the apex bank is looking at the possibility of discouraging importation and encouraging the production of milk from different parts of the country beginning with Niger state.

“We intend, hopefully, to get Mr. President to come in to launch the first Grazing Reserve that’s going to be resuscitated under the programme that we are putting in place”. Emefiele was reported to have said.

He assured that funding would be provided by the CBN to the private sector entities adding that they would be expected to recover their money from the milk that is going to be sourced from the livestock.

“The private sector will work directly with the CBN and the state. They will invest by providing the Pastures, Seedlings and the infrastructure that will also guarantee constant supply of water to enhance the production of quality milk”.

The CBN governor was accompanied on the visit by top officials of the Apex bank.

Toyin Igbira Is Dead! Monsurat Asabi Dies At 56 Notorious Drug Baroness In Africa
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 07-21-2019, 05:11 PM - No Replies

Texxtile merchant, Monsurat Asabi, popularly known in the Nigerian social circuit as Toyin Igbira, has died of ovarian cancer, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV learnt that she was aged 56.

The mother of three reportedly passed on in the early hours of Saturday at a private hospital in Surulere, Lagos.

A toast of Fuji musicians, Igbira was a school dropout who later became a drug dealer.

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested her in 1999 at the age of 36 after years of extensive undercover anti-narcotic operations.

She was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on a two-count charge of unlawfully dealing in 5 kg of heroin and sentenced to two years in prison.

Igbira was re-arrested at the Lagos airport in 2002 with 72 wraps of a substance suspected to be heroin.

An official of the NDLEA said she had evaded arrest for previous drug trafficking offences.

“Igbira was about to board a plane to the United States when she was arrested,” an NDLEA spokesperson said.

He said the woman, who had been on the drug agency’s wanted list since 1997, excreted 72 wraps of suspected heroin weighing 675g.

“This particular arrest led to chains of arrests that unravel the most notorious drug cartel,” he added.

Many drug couriers have named her as the source of their wares.

She was declared wanted in 2007 after one Mohammed Jamiu was arrested during the screening of passengers on a Virgin Nigeria flight from Lagos to London at the Lagos airport while attempting to export cocaine which he ingested.

Jamiu claimed during interrogation that the substance he ingested was given to him by Igbira who was then at large.

Sources said Igbira was diagnosed with ovarian cancer almost 10 years ago and her search for cure took her to hospitals in Europe and America.

She went into partial remission but suffered a relapse last year, prompting doctors to predict she may not live beyond February 2019.

SERAP Drags Nigerian Officials To ICC ‘for Leaving 13.2m Children Out Of School
User Avatar Forum: News

SERAP drags senior Nigerian officials to ICC ‘for leaving 13.2 million children out of school’

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sent a petition to Mrs. Fatou Bensouda, Prosecutor, International Criminal Court (ICC), urging her to use her “good offices to investigate whether the problem of out-of-school children in Nigeria, and the failure of the Nigerian authorities over the years to address it amount to violence against children and crimes against humanity within the jurisdiction of the ICC.”

The organization urged Mrs Bensouda to: “push for those suspected to be responsible for this problem, including current and former presidents and state governors since 1999, who directly or indirectly have individually and/or collectively breached their special duty toward children, and are therefore complicit in the crime, to be tried by the ICC.”

In the petition dated 19 July 2019 and signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organization said: “Investigating and prosecuting high-ranking Nigerian officials and providing reparations to victims will contribute to serving the best interests of Nigerian children, the most vulnerable citizens in our country, and ending the impunity that is denying them their right to education and a life free of violence and fear.”

SERAP said: “These out-of-school Nigerian children have been exposed to real danger, violence and even untimely death. Senior Nigerian politicians since 1999 have failed to understand the seriousness of the crime of leaving millions of children out of school, and have made an essential contribution to the commission of the crime.”

SERAP also said: “The ICC has stated in the Lubanga case that the interruption, delay and denial of the right of children to education is a crime within the jurisdiction of the Court. SERAP believes that the reality for children living in the Ituri region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is similar to the reality faced by millions of out-of-school children in Nigeria, as the situation is depriving an entire generation of children of their right to education and human dignity.”

The petition read in part: “There is no immunity for crimes under the Rome Statute. The crime of leaving millions of Nigerian children out of school is an opportunity for your Office to show the Court’s commitment to effectively enforce its Policy on Children and other important statements of international criminal justice.”

“Putting millions of Nigerian children that should be in school on the street exposes them to violence, including sexual violence, gender violence, abduction, and other forms of exploitation and violence against children, and implicitly amounts to enslavement, trafficking of children, and ill-treatment, three of the eleven acts that may amount to a crime against humanity under the Rome Statute.”

“Unless the ICC declares the problem of over 13 million out-of-school Nigerian children as violence against children and crime against humanity, and hold those suspected to be responsible since 1999 to account, the number of out-of-school children will continue to rise, and these children may never receive any formal education at all.”

“Nigeria is a state party to the Rome Statute and deposited its instrument of ratification on 27 September 2001. According to Nigeria’s Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the population of out-of-school children in Nigeria has risen from 10.5 million to 13.2 million.”

“This figure is based on a joint survey conducted in 2015 by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and the Nigerian government. Data by the UNICEF also shows that one in every five of the world’s out-of-school children is in Nigeria. However, Nigeria's former Minister of Education Mr Adamu Adamu has suggested the figure of out-of-school children in Nigeria to be 10,193,918, citing a recent ‘National Personnel Audit’ of both public and private schools in the country.”

“According to the former Minister of Education, all of the 36 states in Nigeria are affected by the problem of out-of-school children but the problem is more widespread and systematic in the following states: Kano, Akwa Ibom, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba, Sokoto, Yobe, Zamfara, Oyo, Benue, Jigawa and Ebonyi states.”

“Girls are disproportionately represented among out-of-school children. In north-eastern Nigeria alone, 2.8 million children are in need of education-in-emergencies support in three conflict-affected States (Borno, Yobe, Adamawa). In these States, at least 802 schools remain closed and 497 classrooms are listed as destroyed, with another 1,392 damaged but repairable.”

“Under Nigerian law and international human rights treaties to which Nigeria is a state party, the Nigerian authorities at both the Federal and State levels have a legally binding obligation to immediately provide free, universal quality primary education for all Nigerian children, and to progressively provide education at all other levels without discrimination.”

“Nigerian authorities over the years have restricted educational opportunities for children with disabilities including by failing to provide equipment such as hearing aids, ramps to school buildings, wheelchairs, crutches, glasses and surgery to children in need, and failing to address educational challenges facing children with disabilities, in general.

“SERAP notes the launch by your Office in 2016 of the Policy on Children, which aims to send ‘a firm and consistent message that humanity stands united in its resolve that crimes against children will not be tolerated and that their perpetrators will not go unpunished.’ The Policy aims to assist your Office in its efforts to robustly address these crimes, bearing in mind the rights and best interests of children.”

“SERAP notes also that at the launch of the Policy you stated among others that, ‘a crime against a child is an offence against all of humanity; it is an affront to our basic tenets of human decency. Children are our greatest resource, and must be protected from harm so as to reach their full potential. We, at the ICC, intend to play our part through the legal framework of the Rome Statute’.”

“This statement is entirely consistent with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Nigeria is a state party and shows that children will not be invisible in the exercise of the jurisdiction of the ICC, and that your Office will extend its work to ensure the well-being of children, including millions of out-of-school Nigerian children.”

“The Rome Statute’s sensitivity towards children's issues is clearly demonstrated in Article 68(1) to the effect that the Court must ‘have regard to all relevant factors, including gender and the nature of the crime, in particular, where the crime involves sexual or gender violence or violence against children.’ Under Article 54(1), ‘the Prosecutor shall take into account the nature of the crime, in particular where it involves violence against children.’”

“SERAP is seriously concerned that the problem of out-of-school children is widespread and systematic, cutting across the 36 states of the country and Abuja, and spanning many years since 1999. The problem of out-of-school children has had catastrophic effects on the lives of millions of children, their families and communities, akin to violence against children under the Court’s Policy, and crimes against humanity as contemplated under the Rome Statue.”

“The Rome Statute in article 7 defines “crime against humanity” to include “inhumane acts causing great suffering or injury,” committed in a widespread or systematic manner against a civilian population. The common denominator of crimes against humanity is that they are grave affronts to human security and dignity.”

“The consequences of throwing millions of Nigerian children that should be in school out on the street are similar to those of the offences in article 7(1)(k) of the Rome Statute. Senior government officials know well or ought to know that their failure to prevent millions of Nigerian children from roaming the street will expose the children to violence, deny them their human dignity and exacerbate the growing insecurity in the country.”

“SERAP considers the apparent failure of successive governments and high-ranking government officials to prevent widespread and systematic problem of out-of-school children as amounting to complicity under the Rome Statute.”

“This crime against Nigerian children has continued to rob our children of their innocence, childhood, and often, tragically, resulted in their untimely deaths, denying Nigeria of its future potential and of its greatest resource.”

“The national authorities of the Court’s States Parties form the first line of defense in addressing the crimes against children, as they shoulder the primary responsibility for the investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of the crimes. But successive governments in Nigeria have been unwilling or unable to address the problem of out-of-school children, and end the crime against humanity.”

“SERAP believes that substantial grounds exist to warrant the intervention of the Prosecutor in this case. Pursuant to the Rome Statute, the Prosecutor has power to intervene in a situation under the jurisdiction of the Court if the Security Council or states parties refer a situation or if information is provided from other sources such as the information SERAP is providing in this case.

SERAP therefore urged the ICC Prosecutor to:

Urgently commence an investigation proprio motu on the widespread and systematic problem of out-of-school children in Nigeria since the return of democracy in 1999, with a view to determining whether these amount to violence against children and crime against humanity within the Court’s jurisdiction. In this respect, we also urge you to invite representatives of the Nigerian government to provide written or oral testimony at the seat of the Court, so that the Prosecutor is able to conclude since available information whether there is a reasonable basis for an investigation, and to submit a request to the Pre-Trial Chamber for authorization of an investigation;

Bring to justice those suspected to be responsible for widespread and systematic problem of out-of-school children in Nigeria;

Urge the Nigerian government to fulfil its obligations under the Rome Statute to cooperate with the ICC; including complying with your requests to arrest and surrender suspected perpetrators of the widespread and systematic crime of leaving millions of Nigerian children out of school, testimony, and provide other support to the ICC

Compel the Nigerian authorities at the Federal and State levels to ensure that millions of out-of-school children are afforded their right to education, access to justice, and ensure reparations to victims, including restitution, compensation, rehabilitation and guarantee of non-repetition

Villagers in Zamfara take corpse killed by bandits to Government House to let the governor know that the peace dialogue to end banditry is not working

There was pandemonium in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, when the people of Jimrawa village in the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of the state took the body of one of their people killed by bandits to the Government House to let the government know that the peace dialogue initiated to end banditry was not working.

The sight of the villagers, who took several motorbikes to the Government House, made many people in Gusau to run for their lives, thinking there was a breakdown of security.

The people were received at the Government House by the state police commissioner, Usman Nagogo, as both the governor and his deputy were not in the state. According to the villagers, despite the peace accord reached by the government, the bandits and the volunteer groups, innocent people were still being killed in the state.

They said over 30 people from the village had been killed by suspected Fulani bandits within the last few days, with the peace accord in place. They said unless urgent action was taken, they would be left with no option but to flee from the village to avoid becoming victims of such attacks.
Nagogo, who attended the funeral of the murdered person, expressed disgust over the incident. He assured the villagers that something would be done as soon as possible to end the problem.
