‘If Presidency Condones Disrespect, I Will Not,’ Oshiomhole Threatens To Suspend Minister


The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has threatened to suspend the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, from the party noting that he will not give room for ‘dishonourable’ Ministers.


Oshiomhole while addressing journalists in Abuja, on Monday, said discipline must be maintained and if Ngige fails to constitute and inaugurate board members for Federal Agencies’ parastatals under his ministry he will be expelled from the ruling party.

“If the Minister refuses we will suspend him from the party. We must return to internal discipline. For me it is the height of mischief for any Minister, you cannot purport to be Honourable Minister and you act dishonourably. Nobody is greater than the party.

“If the President condones disrespect for his office, I will not condone disrespect for the party.”

The National Chairman said some Ministers have abused the ‘fatherly disposition’ of President Muhammadu Buhari and therefore, efforts will be put in place to prevail on the President to instill discipline in members of his cabinet and Ministers.

“They have taken undue advantage of the President’s fatherly disposition. When we expel the Minister, we will prevail on the President that he can’t keep in his cabinet people who have neither respect for his own decisions nor have respect for the party without which they would not have been Ministers.

“There are no independent candidates in our system. No Minister is above the party. It is absolutely illegal for a Minister in a democracy to prey the powers of the board. The laws establishing those institutions are clear. The boards have procedures to follow.

“When a minister sits in his office to award a contract that didn’t go through boards, this is clearly an abuse of office.

“I am convinced that what they are doing is not with the endorsement of Mr. President. I tell them it is the same authority that appoints these people. It is the same green pen that made them Ministers that appointed these boards that they are refusing to swear in.”

Oshiomhole, who is also a former governor of Edo State, said the Ministers must comply to President Buhari’s instructions. He said they must also comply with the party’s position or they are shown the way out of the party.

This he, however, stressed does not mean he does not respect Nigerian Ministers.

“We have respect for Ministers but only to the extent that they recognise that they are a product of a political party. They either comply or we will expel them from the party.”

Oshiomhole speaking concerning the newly formed Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) maintained that he is losing no sleep over the opposition party.

According to him, the APC would not change nor negotiate its core values in order to retain aggrieved members.

When last February President Muhammadu Buhari saddled the former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, with the task of reconciling all aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the country, I scoffed at the idea and stated then that it was a futile exercise. The reasons were not far-fetched: Buhari by his actions had no genuine desire at reconciling the party members; with Tinubu as the chief aggrieved member, leading such efforts was a misnomer because he needed to be reconciled with some of the party members. I predicted that by the end of his brief, the party would be more divided than before.

Barely two weeks after Tinubu’s peace committee was inaugurated, crisis rocking the Kaduna State chapter of the APC, took a turn for the worse after a building located in the heart of Kaduna city, belonging to a leader of one of the two factions, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, was demolished by the state government. Tinubu’s committee said nothing publicly about such intolerant behaviour on the part of the state governor. That it happened after Tinubu’s supposed reconciliation committee was set up showed the disregard party members had for it.

Nearly six months after he embarked on that mission impossible, not much has been heard of the progress he has made with the reconciliation exercise. What is clear to all watchers of political developments in the country is that Tinubu has failed in his given task. In the last few weeks, a lot has happened that has further aggravated tensions, exacerbated divisions, and created more aggrieved members than the pre-Tinubu committee.

Twenty state chapters of the party have various cases at the courts – a fallout of the ward, local and state congresses that were held recently. With more infighting, the APC is facing a far more uncertain future by the day despite controlling the levers of power, going by the activities of the splinter group, the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) and the looming mass defections from the party. This does not include the attempt by the APC to conduct fresh congresses in Imo State to ensure that the party structures in the state remain under the control of Governor Rochas Okorocha. Nor does it take into consideration the attempt by Tinubu to compel Minister Rotimi Amaechi to relinquish his post as campaign director general of the Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation, effectively creating more divisions in the ruling party.

It appears no one even remembers Tinubu’s committee or when they do, it may well be as a memoriam to its last act in search of an illusory peace. I doubt whether Tinubu himself still pretends to be reconciling anybody.

The man who gave Tinubu the job may have even forgotten about it or may be chuckling in his corner knowing it was never going to succeed. At least no one would blame him for not trying to bring the party together. He can now point the finger at Tinubu and say he failed in the assignment he (Buhari) gave him. As the various interests groups position to tear the APC apart, it is obvious the centre can no longer hold. Come to think of it, Tinubu’s opening act on his reconciliation mission was to launch a savage attack on the then chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun. In a letter dripping with entitlement, arrogance of power, laced with malice but cleverly disguised as a fight to entrench democracy, he accused Oyegun of sabotaging his “presidential assignment”. It was hardly the right way to begin a reconciliation exercise.

Now, one is tempted to ask Tinubu what he has achieved beyond the fruitless travels, photo opportunity and the false sense of relevance after he was brought back from the cold. Since then, he has been eager to impress his master, making grandiose speeches of their heroic exploits. Tinubu has been talking too much lately, criticising opposition figures in what appears to be a total denial of reality. He has been waxing lyrical and pontificating about his party’s uncommon success and commitment to Buhari’s re-election bid. In his most recent statement published June 25, he strangely, accused “elements of the PDP” of frustrating and hindering the implementation of his party’s progressive agenda. “I must mention something of high concern; our progressive agenda has been hampered because elements of the PDP remain embedded in many agencies and ministries so crucial to daily governance. They have been fifth columnists, undermining our policies at every turn. While impeding reform, they also plot the comeback of their reactionary brethren to power. This is something we should no longer abide. Our party teams with competent, reform-minded people who would perform admirably in these positions. It is time we swept out the PDP remnants and put in position, people who actually care about the citizens,” he stated.

Tinubu continued his assault on our sensibilities and reality: “They wanted to see the end of us and our pursuit of good governance for Nigeria. You should not forget, as I shall never forget, the strong efforts they made to stop us in the courts. There were 12 cases brought trying to stop us from merging, from registering the new party, then attempting to bar our candidate from the election. With their schemes foiled, those who tried to destroy us must bear witness to the destruction of their edifice of corrupt governance and their dreams of unjust domination of our nation. While they planned a lifetime of greedy enrichment by looting the people’s resources and the public treasury for 60 years, we moved to reform the economy to bring development and aid to the poor.”

A lifetime of greedy enrichment by looting the people’s resources? That line particularly struck me. Does Tinubu’s suffocating stranglehold on Lagos mean anything to anyone reading? I really don’t know why people condemn things in others, they are manifestly guilty of. I have called the attention of behavioural scientists to explain why people behave like this. They are yet to get back to me.

It appeared nobody told Tinubu that his APC-led government is a lawless one that does not respect court orders and employs every tactic to constrain the political space which had been liberalised by the immediate-past administration.

Tinubu says the courts refused to be used to bar Buhari. The irony here must be emphasised for all to see: the orders of the very same court that cleared the way for Tinubu’s candidate, Buhari to contest the 2015 election are now being treated with utmost contempt once they are deemed unfavourable to the interests of the powers that be by the same Buhari now as president. The court system and other institutions of the state are also brazenly being manipulated and abused to achieve regime’s selfish objectives, chief of which is stay in power beyond 2019. The EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu now wears Buhari’s re-election lapel on his chest as open demonstration of partisanship – jarringly similar to what happened during Abacha’s transmutation plan in 1998. Does Tinubu even reflect on all these? We have never had it so bad. Imagine for a moment that it was under the last regime, these transgressions were taking place with Tinubu in the opposition.

By the way, which agenda was he talking about? An agenda that does not include the restructuring of the country and the enthronement of true fiscal federalism? He used to be a chief advocate of fiscal federalism and restructuring when he was in the opposition. Today, as a high-profile member of the ruling party, Tinubu is no longer enthusiastic about restructuring, instead he has retreated from it. How can he be enthusiastic about it, when his party is now in control at the federal level?

When he was the governor of Lagos State, he defiled the federal government by creating local governments all in pursuit of his belief that it was not the business of the federal government to create local government areas. What has happened to this man who cut his political teeth by championing the restructuring of the country? Now, which reform was Tinubu talking about? Can anyone articulate that agenda or reform to me? Because the only agenda I have seen so far is the wanton killing of Nigerians by herdsmen with the complicity of the Buhari government and the APC, with the latter maintaining a disturbing silence on the issue.

While Tinubu condemned the last government over Boko Haram attacks as an opposition figure, he is silent on the activities of Fulani herdsmen. He is blind to the atrocities being perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen who are forcefully seizing farmlands and burning down communities or occupying them. He has never condemned the brazen audacity of Miyetti Allah which has consistently defended the indefensible killing of human beings as revenge for the killing of cows. It is a shame that he sees nothing wrong with the ongoing genocide. As a matter of fact, he is doing everything he can to distract the public from focusing on the failure of the government to stop the killings.

The truth here is that Tinubu is helping to normalise the atrocities and crimes against humanity by his silence. We must not allow him to succeed in his posturing this time. We must call him out now before it is too late. This man is determined to continue the false narrative of change. He is deceiving Nigerians that this government is better than the previous one and that there is no looting going on. This is a lie and we must challenge it. At every turn, he praises Buhari to the heavens; a Commander-in-Chief who has told the whole world that he can only pray for the killings to stop and will put more pressure on the security agencies to stop the killings. Do these people really think we are dummies or what? Tinubu continues to tell us Buhari is doing a good job and should continue on the part of doing good. Well, there is a saying in the land of my fathers that “any man who claims to have caught a frog by its tail is being economical with the truth”. Any man with conscience and respect for truth would tell you the president is not doing a good job by failing to secure the lives and properties of Nigerians.

On looting and corruption, Tinubu should ask Maikanti Baru, chief executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), how the consumption of petrol jumped from 30-35 million litres to 60-65 million litres a day in less than a year. If he claims this is a transparent government, then he should ask Baru and the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Buhari, how contracts worth $25 billion were awarded without due process and the approval of the board.

As Tinubu continues to negotiate the facts, Nigeria is in the worst shape ever. In three years of the APC government, the country has been declared the poverty capital of the world. This came on the heels of another report declaring it as one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth (169th) with the fourth-worst maternal mortality rate in the world ahead of only Sierra Leone, Central African Republic and Chad. Bill Gates told this government the grim truth not long ago and they were not happy.

In the latest annual ranking of the safest and least safe countries by Gallup, Nigeria placed 116th out of 142 countries, with violence-ridden Libya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, CAR, Niger ranked safer than Nigeria under Buhari’s APC government.


With all these, Tinubu still claimed that we are “making steady, sustainable progress”. He was not worried by these grim statistics. Maybe his APC agenda is not to right the situation but to win the election for Buhari in 2019.

In the good old days, it was easy to situate Tinubu and where he stood on burning national issues. Not anymore! The man has evolved and his views have morphed into a caricature of what he used to represent. Buhari’s “parochial” views on restructuring and federalism are antithetical to what defined Tinubu in the past. Tinubu, on other hand, has maintained a deafening silence on the issue of restructuring. He now wears a dark veil and pretends the current structure serves the country well. The once-upon-a-time champion of the Sovereign National Conference (SNC) that was supposed to restructure Nigeria is now a willing accomplice to all efforts that undermine it. He has become an object of mockery and humour among many reform-minded Nigerians. Perhaps, he has assimilated Buhari’s stand, or how else would one rationalise his silence?

One final thing: when APC leaves power someday, will Tinubu ever latch onto restructuring and fiscal federalism again? It is not impossible that he will revert to it as a way to reinvent himself, but we must not allow him get away with it. This man’s hypocrisy is simply breathtaking.

The menace of armed robberies and kidnappings have returned to the Abuja-Kaduna expressway following the killing and abducting scores of travellers on Sunday (yesterday). According to reports, the attack occurred near Gidan Busa village, located between Jere and Kateri along the expressway.

A former Katsina state commissioner of Education Prof. "Halimatu Sa'adiya Idris" was among the victims killed as a result of gunshot by bandits last night along Kaduna/Abuja road.

According to Daily Nigerian, one of the survivors from the scene said an army officer and a policeman were among those killed by the gunmen.

“There is an army officer travelling with his orderly and daughter. The orderly escaped with gunshot but they killed the army officer and his daughter on the spot,” Haruna Isa, a VW Golf driver who survived the attack said.

“There is another person they killed after identifying that he was a policeman. Several other passengers were killed, while many were abducted.”

Witnesses said the security officers refused to engage the kidnappers on the premise that “they were waiting for reinforcement”.

The latest attack is coming one day after a young man identified as Shehu Alaka, a student of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in Katsina state, was killed by armed robbers. The deceased who was based in Abuja – was said to be returning home when his bus was ambushed by armed robbers along Kaduna-Abuja road and he was killed in the process.

Last week, President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the party, failed to persuade the Senate President to reconsider his decision to leave the ruling party. Saraki met with Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

A source at the meeting revealed that Saraki was presented with the offer to choose any position of his choice in the future APC government, but he declined.

He was invited to force headquarters to make a statement. Are these not humiliation enough? “And now, they are begging him not to leave APC because the president is interested in second term,” he noted.

Other aggrieved lawmakers have been approached as well, by the party, persuading them not to defect, including Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State who had earlier said APC has given him ‘red card.’

MONDAY, JULY 23RD

JESUS MADE REMISSION OF SINS POSSIBLE


Be it known unto you therefore, brethren, that through this man is proclaimed unto you remission of sins: and by him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses (Acts 13:38-39 ASV).

Before Jesus came, there were sacrifices and offerings for the atonement of sins in the Old Testament. The Jews always had to offer sacrifices year after year for sins. These involved the killing of animals; several bulls and goats, but the Bible says in Hebrews 10:4, “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.”

The blood of bulls and goats couldn’t provide remission, but when Jesus came, with one sacrifice, He perfected forever all those who are called in Him. He offered Himself once, not for the forgiveness of our sins, but for the total blotting away or remission of sins. (Hebrews 9:14). He made remission of sins possible.

Too many around the world aren’t aware that their sins have been remitted. He didn’t do it for Christians; He did it for the whole world (John 3:16). There’re those today who ignorantly put themselves through some harsh penance; they punish themselves for their sins, thinking if they suffered enough, God would be sympathetic towards them and overlook their sins. But it doesn’t work that way.

The Bible says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). It’s not by your efforts. So, it doesn’t matter how many times you buffet yourself for your sins; it makes no difference how long and hard you suffer and go through self-inflicted penance; your sins can’t, and won’t be remitted that way. What was required was sinless blood, the blood of Jesus Christ. He alone was qualified to offer Himself for the remission of our sins.

Acts 10:43 says, “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” If you’re born again, happy are you, because you have remission of sins; total obliteration and removal of sins—past, present, and future. His blood is that powerful; it speaks better things (Hebrews 12:24); it speaks of eternal redemption and eternal inheritance (Hebrews 9:11-14). Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

Dear Father, I thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus, whom you sent for the remission of the sins of the world. I walk in the finished works of Christ, and the glory that His death, burial, and resurrection wrought for me. I’m forever righteous, holy, blameless and unreproveable in your sight. What a blessing!

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has remitted another N7.8 billion to the Federal Government.
The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos.

According to him, the board has planned to remit the amount as surplus to the Federal Government as was done in 2017.

Benjamin said that the amount was the surplus generated from the conduct of the board’s 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

“However, government in its magnanimity, graciously directed that we remit about N5.6 billion and use the balance for restructuring of the board’s headquarters to meet up with its international status.

“We, therefore, want to appreciate the governing board of JAMB led by Dr Emmanuel Ndukwe for the tremendous support in ensuring that the current administration’s vision of transparency and accountability as fully embraced by JAMB is sustained.

“The Ndukwe-led board had, within its short period of inauguration, contributed immensely in some ground breaking innovations.

“One of such innovations is the quick remittance of the 2018 surplus. Whatever candidates pay for JAMB’s examination is a trust and must be accounted for.

“The board, though not a revenue generating agency, will continue to be judicious with resources at its disposal,” he said.

Benjamin said that cumulatively and technically, the board had remitted a total of N15.6 billion in less than two years.

“The board is thinking of how to ensure that candidates benefitted from the surplus.

“We are currently looking at a number of ways to enhance the conduct of the examination where candidates will benefit by way of conducive environment in writing the examination.

“We are also looking at putting more mechanism in place that will ensure absolute equity and fairness in the selection of candidates through enhanced technology as currently being done by the Central Admission Process Selection (CAPS),” he said.

Benjamin said that the board was set to acquire cutting edge technology to give candidates the best registration procedure, examination and a more improved selection process.

He said the development was similar to the one that was currently being developed by the CAPS initiative.

The President, African Export-Import Bank, Dr Benedict Oranma, has said there are plans by the bank to support Nigeria and a number of other African countries with $25bn within the next three years.

He disclosed this during an interview with our correspondent on the sidelines of the African Export-Import Bank Annual Meetings in Abuja.

He said following the move by the continent to implement the African Continent Free Trade Agreement, the bank would invest more in order to promote trade and investment on the continent and support more businesses to grow.

The African Continent Free Trade Agreement is expected to increase intra-African trade by 52.3 per cent from the current 19 per cent.

Already, 44 out of the 55 African countries had endorsed the agreement which would enable them to form a $3tn continental free-trade zone, encompassing 1.2 billion people.

At least 17 people nine from the same family have died after an amphibious “duck boat” capsized in stormy weather on a lake in Missouri.

Divers had been searching for four people who were missing after the sightseeing vessel sank in Table Rock Lake, police in the US state said and as Governor Mike Parson had pointed out to CNN, the chances of finding survivors were slim the morning after the incident. 

Mr Parson later revealed that nine of the victims, which is said to be include children, were members of the same family.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Tia tearfully told Reuters of her horrific experience trying to get out of the boat. 

'I couldn't see anybody, I couldn't hear anything I couldn't hear screams it felt like I was out there on my own,' she said.

'I was yelling, I was screaming and finally I said: "Lord, just let me die, let me die I can't keep drowning, I just can't...

'Then I just let go, and I started floating, and I was floating to the top and I felt the water temperature raise to warm, and I jumped up and saw the big boat that sits out there.

'When I saw [lthe first responders helping survivors on the pier, they were throwing out life jackets to people. 

And I said: 'Jesus keep me, just keep me so I can get to my children'.


All of the victims were on board the Ride the Ducks amphibious vessel when a powerful storm rolled over the lake, lashing the water with 60mph winds at around 7pm. 

Fourteen people survived, including the boat's captain. Seven people were hospitalized with injuries. 

Those who died range in age from one to 70. 

Among them was the boat's driver.

Search and rescue teams sectioned off part of the lake to continue their recovery of the four missing bodies on Friday morning.

The first 11 bodies were found on Thursday night and six more were recovered the next day. 

The lake which is 229ft seep and has a surface area of 43,100 acres was partially reopened to the public on Friday morning. 

Now, authorities must bring the boat wreckage back to the shore to investigate why it failed.

The Assistant Inspector General in charge of zone 2 command, AIG Adamu Ibrahim has upheld the recommendation of police disciplinary body that recommended dismissal of four policemen attached to Special Anti Robbery Squad Ikeja, Lagos (SARS).

PoliticsNGR gathered the four policemen who were dismissed and subsequently charged to court on offences of Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Unlawful detention, Intimidation and threatening violence being the report of the Investigation carried out against them when one Mr. Chukwudi Godwin Odionye popularly referred to as 'Bishop' submitted a petition against the four on 2nd day of May 2018.

The petitioner in his petition stated that on the 4th of June 2017, he was in his house around Alagbado Lagos when the four armed men stormed his house to effect his arrest on the allegation of performing 'FAKE' miracles.

He stated that after his arrest, he was taken to one hotel at Agege where he was detained and threatened to be killed if he fails to cooperate. He explained further that on the following day 5th June 2017, he was taken to bank where he was made to transfer seven million Naira to one of the operative's account.

On the receipt of the petition, the AIG ordered Investigation into the case. On the strength of Investigation, it was revealed that no proper police procedure for Investigation was followed in Mr chukwudi's arrest and that the four SARS operatives actually abducted the man from his house and Unlawfully detained him in the hotel under the guard of the suspects for personal gain.

The policemen: Sgt Adeoye Adekunle, Sgt Adenira Adebowale, Sgt Agbi Lucky, Sgt Odighe HehosaWho were subsequently found guilty during the orderly room trial for professional misconduct, corrupt practices, and discreditable conduct were dismissed and consequently charged to court on criminal charges of Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Unlawful Detention, Stealing, Intimidation and threatening violence.

The Police Public Relations Officer of zone 2 command, CSP Dolapo Badmos while parading the suspects reiterated the AIG'S directive that the force will not tolerate any act of misconduct that undermines the value of International best practices of policing as she stated further that any police officer or men found guilty will not be spared.

Dangote Cement Company has invested $3b in building manufacturing plants and import/grinding terminals across Africa, Group Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement, Joe Makoju, has revealed.

He explained that the investments were located in Cameroon (1.5Mta clinker grinding), Congo (1.5Mta), Ghana (1.5Mta import), Ethiopia (2.5Mta), Senegal (1.5Mta), Sierra Leone (0.7Mta import), South Africa (2.8Mta), Tanzania (3.0Mta), and Zambia (1.5Mta).

Reviewing the company’s operations in the second quarter of 2018, Makoju said Nigeria’s total sales volumes went up by 13.9 per cent to 7.8 metric tonnes, Pan-African volumes reduced by 3.9 per cent, mainly due to the shutdown in Tanzania.

Makoju said: “In all, the company, which employed 27, 952 workers in Nigeria as at 2017 had its revenue increased by 16.9 per cent and its earning per share also increased by 3 per cent to N6.60 kobo per share for the second quarter, which ended June 30, 2018.

“In addition, we achieved the largest-ever issuance of Commercial Paper by a Nigerian company when we issued ₦50b Series 1 & 2 Notes at the end of June, with a discount rate that reflected the strength of our company and its excellent credit ratings.

Atiku stated this at Ribadu Square, in the capital of his home state of Adamawa, at a rally where he formally declared his intention to contest next year’s presidential election on the platform of PDP. He decried the killings in different parts of the country and blamed the APC for visiting insecurity, tragedy, division, and economic misery upon the citizens.
Atiku promised to restore national unity, security of life and property, and economic prosperity if elected president.

THISDAY gathered last night that the decision by the PDP to change its name might have stemmed from last Thursday’s meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President Bukola Saraki. Though, details of their discussion were not made public, many in PDP believed that with such sessions, the chances of bringing Saraki back to the PDP could be hampered.

The opposition party had long mooted the idea of name change, but had slowed down on the decision because a majority of its members were not disposed to it, and those who wanted it could not convince the others.

Besides, it was thought that even though the party had switched positions and had become an opposition party, PDP was still the only party with membership in the remotest parts of the country, and the name resonated with a majority of its members and admirers, particularly among the teeming illiterate populations.

But this very thinking had since changed, especially with the prevalent narrative of the ruling party, which is always attacking the PDP as a corrupt party. PDP believes the corruption allegation is the main defence APC has found to justify its continued stay in office, despite widespread belief that it has mismanaged the affairs of the country.

Leaders of the opposition party are, therefore, of the opinion that since the ruling APC may be unable to campaign with a good record on economy and security, the only thing it has going for it is the attempt to de-market the opposition by constantly alluding to corruption allegations. However, once the name changes, leaders of the party reckon, PDP would naturally die with the corruption tag and the engagement would shift to issues-based debate. Many PDP members feel that APC would be unable to sustain such a debate owing to its poor performance in the last three years.

It is also believed that in the run up to 2019, PDP has gained many sympathisers, some of who are, however, uncomfortable with the name because of the baggage that comes with it. The party’s leaders are, therefore, of the view that with the old name gone, PDP’s sympathisers would not only openly identify with it, but most of them would also attract more members, thus putting it in a position of advantage to effectively take on APC in the next election.

Therefore, the assignment before the Ekweremadu committee would be to come up with a name that best suits the party, considering the short time between now and 2019, and also not forgetting that such a name must be easily recalled by illiterate citizens.
Meanwhile, Atiku was well received at his declaration ceremony in Yola, which took place in a carnival-like atmosphere.

“Fellow Nigerians, the government of APC has failed, it has failed to unite Nigerians,” Atiku told a capacity crowd of jubilant supporters and party leaders, which included PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, and other members of the party’s National Working Committee as well as leaders from the six geo-political zones of the country. “Today we are more divided than in any other time in the history of this country.”

He said the APC government had failed to rescue Nigeria from destruction, “Rather, it has destroyed the economy, security, and ensured more poverty and starvation in the land.”

Atiku stressed, “The APC promised us three million new jobs a year. In government, the APC has lost three million jobs a year.

“The APC promised us peace and unity. Under the APC, Nigeria is now more divided and acrimonious than at any time since the civil war.”

The former vice president said, “Nigeria’s major problem is insecurity. More people are killed in Nigeria than people in Afghanistan because Nigerians are no longer secure in their country due to the insensitiveness of the current leadership of the APC.”

According to Atiku, “The APC government has destroyed our economy. They took over an economy with a growth of seven per cent and brought it down to less than two per cent. Today, we are witnessing the most insecure situation in Nigeria ever since APC took over.”

He said, “Today, we have the highest unemployment rate in this country. More than 10 million of our people have been made unemployed under the watch of the APC administration.”

Atiku said he would work with other compatriots in the PDP to secure the party’s nomination for the presidential election. He explained that rebuilding the economy and reuniting the country will be his major priorities if elected president.
“What the PDP is going to do is to restore our economy, restore hope of a greater Nigeria and ensure that we have security of lives and property.

“I, therefore, appeal to all of you wherever you may be that it is time to now re-embrace the party that has given us unity, prosperity and security in this country,” he stated.

Atiku, who returned to PDP from APC last year, said PDP maintained an “unequalled record of growing our economy for the benefit of all.”
He vowed to reclaim the state for PDP, saying, “l took this state to the PDP, today, l have come to reclaim what belongs to PDP.”

He said he was overwhelmed by the reception by his people and their support for his ambition, recalling similar events in 1998, when was received by mammoth crowds of supporters before the 1999 election, when he was running mate to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In his own comments, Senator Ben Bruce, who spoke on behalf of other senators, said, “The turnout is one of a kind. Never been anything like this. Indeed, power is returning to the people, let’s join hands to get Nigeria working.”
Bruce said the country needed a detribalised leader like Atiku.

“We cannot continue to live in a country where people are being killed every day. We need someone who can salvage and move the country forward like Atiku. We need to keep hope alive. With people like Atiku, we have hope.”

The event, which had in attendance about 400 Atiku support groups from across the country, also witnessed the defection of people from APC and other parties to PDP. Secondus and chairman of PDP in Adamawa State, Barrister Tahir Shehu, received the new defectors, which included commissioners in the incumbent government of the APC in the state under Governor Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow, Assembly members representing Lamurde , Michika , Leko-Coma state constituencies, and Guyuk local council boss and all his councillors.

THISDAY spotted two commissioners sitting among the dignitaries – the Commissioner for Land and Survey, Hon. Maigiyawa Yayaji, and Commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Umar Daware. The two men were recently reported to have resigned from Bindow’s cabinet, as confirmed by the state secretary of the PDP, Abdullahi Peramb.

It was reported that the Imo state government embarked on massive demolition of a kidnapper’s dens and houses in Mgbidi area of the state. According to reports, one of the destroyed dens - housed an APC chieftain who was abducted and murdered in cold blood by the suspected kidnappers.

The Mgbidi residents were shocked when security operatives numbering more than 45 with Hilux vehicles and heavy machines stormed the communities to destroy the houses of kidnappers said to be kingpins in the crime industry.

The families of the suspects were said to have been evacuated by the time the bulldozers reached the location.

The APC chieftain was kidnapped and killed in Mgbidi by Ikenna Nwosu ( a.k.a Eze ego CEO Wisdom hotels Mgbidi) said to be the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Mgbidi. Vitus Ibeabuchi (a.k.a Bebeto who is declared wanted), Eze Ezechukwu (a.k.a. Sepia) and Chidi Anya ( a.k.a. Bia rie) and others after receiving about 30 million ransom from their victim.

It would be recalled that in line with the decision of some state governments in the South East to curb kidnapping, the private houses and Hotels of suspects were bulldozed.

YOUR NEW LIFE STARTED WITH THE RESURRECTION

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
The new creation didn’t come from the cross, but from the resurrection of Jesus Christ; we’re the fruits of His resurrection. When Jesus died, you died with Him. When He was buried, you were buried with Him. When He resurrected, you also arose with Him as a new man, a new species.

Romans 6:4 says, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Your new life started with the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The old life has been supplanted by this new life, the divine life.
Understand that there’s no connection between the new creation and your past. In fact, the so-called past doesn’t exist. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Quit judging or appraising yourself on the basis of your past. Your past was nailed to the cross.

In Romans 7:6, the Apostle Paul, stressing our disconnection from the past and old nature, admonished that we serve God in the newness of spirit: “But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.” He also said in Colossians 3:10, “…put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”

Today, what counts with God is that you’re born again and are a new creature in Christ Jesus (Galatians 6:15). You’re now in His class of being; an associate of the God-kind; a partaker of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). You’ve been made alive in Christ. All these are as a result of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Blessed be God! I have the incorruptible life of Christ in my spirit. I’m an associate of the God-kind, reigning in life by grace through righteousness. I walk in the reality of the new life of righteousness, which I’ve received in Christ. I’m more than a conqueror; I live in dominion over Satan and the world! Hallelujah!

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar stood before a cheering crowd in his home state of Adamawa on Saturday, announcing he will seek the Peoples Democratic Party ticket for president next February.


Decrying the large-scale killings that have touched many parts of the country in recent months before thousands packed into Yola town square at the heart of Nigeria’s north-east, Mr Abubakar said President Muhammadu Buhari’s government would be remembered more for its bloodshed than any development it brought to citizens.

“Today, we are witnessing the most insecure atmosphere,” Mr Abubakar said of the killings largely blamed on herdsmen, bandits and militias, before promising to tackle them headlong if elected. “More people died under APC than people killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Mr Abubakar told a crowd chanting “Atiku! Atiku!” shortly after 2:00 p.m. that he would curtail inflation and unemployment rate in the country, saying Mr Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress have displayed a common lack of capacity when it comes to the issues that matter to citizens the most.

“Today, we have the highest unemployment rate in history of this country, more than one million of our youth are unemployed,” Mr Abubakar said, adding that the PDP would secure the country, ensure unity and security of life and property.

He also hit Mr Buhari at one of his most vulnerable areas: “Today, we are more divided than at any other time in Nigeria’s history.”

The president has been accused of packing key federal offices with people from his region, with critics slamming him as flouting the federal character and affirmative action principles enshrined in federal laws as necessary fabrics for holding an ethnically and religiously diverse entity like NIgeria together.

Mr Buhari has often pushed back against the claims, saying instead that his appointments have been balanced where they are not skewed towards the south.


Mr Abubakar is only one of several top political players eyeing the PDP ticket, having other top contenders like Sule Lamido and Ahmed Makarfi. Recently, political analysts expect the race to get even more fluid when the likes of Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal and other elements of the so-called newPDP make their expected formal return to the largest opposition entity.

Yet, Mr Abubakar’s stature as a former vice-president and serial presidential contender with vast political and financial muscle made him a top favourite for the ticket. He has visited most of the southern states for consultations, and his office said he plans to take the tour to all the 36 states before the party’s primaries in a few months’ time.


He also sees himself in a good light, aiming directly at Mr Buhari rather than his party ticket challengers.

But critics are dismissing his campaign as a sideshow that would soon hit the rocks because of Mr Abubakar’s unanswered allegations about corruption.

Still dogging his ambition has been the mystery surrounding his failure to travel to the United States since he was named in a corruption trial in that country the previous decade. He has dismissed all allegations of corruption and challenged his opponents to bring forth any evidence of his culpability in graft practices.


Although Mr Abubakar said the Nigerian Constitution did not require that a citizen must possess American travel credentials to be eligible for presidential election, he also said that he had approached the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria for visa, but was turned down.

One of his close associates told PREMIUM TIMES recently that he may still apply for visa before the 2019 election.

But neither the former vice president nor his aides have agreed to entertain questions about whether they would cooperate with U.S. authorities to release his immigration status to the public. The U.S. border authorities told PREMIUM TIMES in early 2017 that Mr Abubakar’s immigration status could be made public, but only if he gives his legal backing to such disclosure.

With him at today’s rally were Uche Secondus, the party’s chairman, Gbenga Daniel, his campaign director, and Ben Murray-Bruce, a serving senator who also emceed the televised event.

A horrific multiple accident was said to have happened yesterday by 4pm just in front of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.. According to eyewitnesses, the accident was caused by one of the drivers who was allegedly making phone call while driving before collision with the two other vehicles.

There was no instant fatality as the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment before the vehicles were later evacuated.

"Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, the Chief of Staff to Governor Of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the September 22 governorship election in the south-western state.

Oyetola, who is also the cousin of Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the party, emerged winner of the party’s first-ever direct primary by polling 127, 017 votes to beat Yusuff Lasun, Deputy Speaker of the House of representatives, who recorded 21, 975 votes to place a distant second.

Najeem Salam, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, occupied third place with 17, 958 votes.

Before the start of Friday’s primary, Moshood Adeoti, Secretary to the Osun State Government, had accused the party of manipulating the exercise, saying a lot of things were done to render it a mere endorsement Oyetola.

“The primary was arranged, skewed and designed to favour Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Otedola, the cousin of the National Leader of our party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Adeoti’s campaign organisation said in a statement.

He alleged that there was no credible register of members with which a free, fair and transparent direct primary could be conducted, but only a “cooked-up register comprising handpicked persons loyal to the emergence of Oyetola, printed in a firm owned by Oyetola in Lagos”.

Before Friday, 12 of the 17 aspirants had criticised kicked against the directive of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) for the election to hold via direct means, which meant every card-carrying member of the party could vote. However, the 12 maintained that the party had no comprehensive register of APC members across Osun State.

A second aspirant and current senator, Babajide Omoworare, withdrew not long after, but without acrimony. Omowoware, who represents Osun East at the Senate, said he stood down in the party’s interest.

“This development is with the ultimate view of ensuring party cohesion and for All Progressives Congress to secure victory at the September 22nd governorship election in the state,” Tunde Dairo, his Director of Communications, told SaharaReporters."

The poor compliance of MDAs to Nigerian laws on submission of accounts is worse in each of Mr Buhari’s first two years in office than any previous year since Nigeria returned to democracy from military dictatorship in 1999.

According to the Auditor-General of the Federation, 324 MDAs failed to submit their accounts for audit in 2016, while 215 MDAs failed to submit in 2015. In each of the 22 previous years before that, the highest number of non-submissions was 148, in 2014.

Although he did not list the defaulting agencies in 2016, the Auditor-General, Anthony Ayine, worried about the situation, stated in the 2016 audit report that “The extensive violation of statutory financial reporting obligations by Parastatals is of great concern.”

Mr Ayine’s remarks were contained in the recently released annual report of the Auditor-General for the Federation on the accounts of the Federation of Nigeria for the year ended December 2016.

The 2016 audit report is the latest by Mr Ayine’s office and was released last month.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has affirmed that there is no going back on his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He told members of OnTiv Professionals Association in Abuja that he would not return to the party for any reason.

Ortom spoke a few hours after emerging from a peace meeting with the APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole where he said he had not dumped the party and had expressed hope of a peaceful resolution of the crisis in the party.

But receiving his guests at the Benue State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, the governor said “I can assure you and the good people of Benue that there is no going back on my decision to exit from the APC.”

He added “at the appropriate time in the next few weeks, I would make my next move public.”

Eelier, his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Terver Akase had challenged the APC to “bring out facts to back their claim that they had faulted the performance of the Governor.”

He said: “During the State Congress of the party at Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, it adopted the Governor as its consensus candidate. Again, the party publicly said its decision was based on the sterling stewardship of Governor Ortom within the last three years. But being the true democrat that he is, the Governor decided that other aspirants be also allowed to vie for the governorship seat to deepen internal democracy in the party.”

Ortom had on Monday stated that he was given red card by the state arm of the party.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has claimed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is using other means to get the third term he failed to realize during his tenure.

Oshiomhole, speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, stated that Nigerians had decided not to return to the era where the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) fund was shared to people based on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s philosophy of “share the money.”

Answering question on the threat of mass defection from his party, Oshiomhole said: “I think it is something you should ask the PDP. They are the ones who have suffered huge, huge mass defection even of the so-called founding fathers. I mean, in those good old days, people like Prof. Jerry Gana will tell us, we are the founding fathers. People like President Obasanjo will tell us, you know I was the first President.

“All of these people are gone. I think the media need to get more engaged and scrutinize us, those of us who are political players. When we speak from both sides of the mouth or we are turning the story upside down.

“Just few months back, you know that a good section after their convention, people like Oyederan, Prof. Jerry Gana and a host of others who can be said to be founding fathers of that party, left to form what they call SDP or ADC or both. So, they broke out and then when it dawn on them that even together we defeated them just four years ago, and now further factionalised, what can they do.

“And they just want to capture power for the sake of power. So they say, even though we have already broken the house, can we for the sake of power come together. Does it make sense? In the morning, you broke away from PDP to SDP and then to ADC.

“And there is no better proof than that old man who is going round as an organising secretary recruiting people, looking for tired players to continue with a third term agenda which Nigerians had rejected.

“By whatever form they come in, Nigerians have spoken. They are not going to return to the era where Central Bank and NNPC security money is shared to people based on PDP philosophy ‘share the money’.

“We won’t do that, if they have forgotten. It is quite easy for robbers to forget easily the robbery they just did but it is not easy for the victim of the robbery to forget.”

National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole has visited the former Governor of Kano State, Engr.Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Oshiomhole was accompanied by three APC Governors of Kebbi, Jigawa and Zamfara States.

The visit Friday night, Suanu's Blog gathered was aimed at pleading with Kwankwaso who is currently a Senator against dumping the party for the PDP.

Kwankwaso is believed to be nursing a presidential ambition in 2019 and is seriously been wooed by the PDP.
Suanu's Blog recalls that Senator Kwankwaso had contested the presidential primary election of the APP in 2014 and had the second highest votes after Mr.Buhari who won the contest.

It is unclear if Senator Kwankwaso will give up on his presidential ambition and remain in the APC to support the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

It may interest you to know that Senator Kwankwaso has been having a long political battle with his former deputy now governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Suanu's Blog recalls that Oshiomhole had earlier met with Gov.Ortom of Benue State against defecting to PDP. However, after accepting to remain in the APC, Gov.Ortom appears to have changed his mind as he reiterated his resolve to dump the party on Friday.

A total of 238 students of Covenant University in Ota, Ogun, on Friday graduated with first class honours’ degrees at the institution’s 2017/2018 Convocation.
The institution’s Vice-Chancellor (V-C), Prof. Aaron Atayero, disclosed this during the university’s 13th Convocation, the Conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees and presentation of prizes to its deserving students in Ota.

The News of Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the university graduated 1,887 students for 2017/2018 Academic Session. They comprised: 238 first class honours, 746 second class upper honours, 452 second class lower, 86 third class and 365 post-graduate students.

NAN reports that Miss Salami Toluwani, from the Department of Industrial Chemistry, College of Sciences emerged the best student with a Cumulative Grade Point of Average (CGPA) of 4.99.

Atayero said that the graduates were not trained to seek but to provide employment and where they get employed, they should distinguish themselves as attested to by employers’ of labour.

“All over the world, our graduates are always breaking the grounds in many human endeavours,” he said.
Atayero attributed the success and milestone achieved by the institution to the high quality of its teaching linked with high quality research.

He implored the graduating students to deploy all what they had been through in solving the nation’s problems: leadership, unemployment, poverty, wanton killings, infrastructural deficit and poor health services.
Also speaking, Dr David Oyedepo, the Chancellor of the university, said there was the need to redefine democracy in the country so as to surmount its challenges.

He noted that leadership was not just about talking but taking the lead. Oyedepo said that leadership was not an endowment, but a product of outstanding accomplishments.

He said that the vision of the institution was to raise a new generation of leaders in every area of human endeavour, which would engender great changes in Nigeria, African and the world at large.

“I implore you all to start thinking about changing and start thinking of solutions to challenges confronting the nation,” he said.

Oyedepo advised the graduating students to imbibe and uphold the core values of the institution.

In a keynote address, Mrs Ibukun Awosika, the Chairman, First Bank of Nigeria PLC., advised the graduating students to identify every problem as an opportunity to proffer solutions to them, especially, those confronting the country.

Awosika said that the graduates had better opportunities because they had real value of education from a good university that impacted quality education on them.

“Challenges do not destroy vision but they empowered vision,” she said.

Awosika, however, advised the graduates not to allow circumstances to overcome their sense of vision.
She also enjoined them to seek knowledge with character, adding that without character, it would be difficult to actualise their dreams.

WHEN YOU BELIEVE, YOU RECEIVE

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).
To believe is to act your faith; believing is the action of faith. Faith itself is the response of the human spirit to the Word of God, and that response is evidence. When you act your faith (believe), you receive and it’s endorsed; you no longer require further evidence.

It’s like the judgment that’s given in a court of law on the basis of evidence produced. Once the judgment is passed, you don’t have to come again with further evidence; the evidence has been accepted and that’s why the judgment was made. Likewise, when you believe, you’ve judged whatever it is that you’ve believed to be true, and as a result, something happens: you receive! We don’t believe for nothing; the believer is a “haver.”

For example, the Bible says, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life…” (John 3:36). When you believed in Jesus Christ, you received eternal life: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life” (John 6:47). That’s why John said, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life...” (1 John 5:13).

Eternal life isn’t a hope in the Sweet By-and-By; something you’re waiting on God to make happen for you; no! You got it when you believed; it’s your present-hour possession. Let’s examine Mark 11:24 in the same light; it says, “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” It’s not when you hold what you desire in your hands or see it with your physical eyes that you know you have it; your spirit took possession at the time you prayed in faith and believed that you got it. Hallelujah!


PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for imparting faith into my spirit. I’m a possessor of eternal life. That life in me destroys, paralyses, and renders ineffective the works of the devil in my life, family, finances and business. The divine life of God flows through my being. Hallelujah!

Some members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were left injured and in pains after an attack from armed robbers on Sunday, July 15 at CSS Ozalla, Igbo-etiti lga in Enugu state. According to reports, the armed robbers were dressed in army uniforms in order to operate without any hindrance.

They attacked the harmless corpers who were resting in their lodge that early morning before injuring those they felt didn't comply well.

The corpers are calling on the NYSC and government to come to their aid by providing adequate security for them while serving their Father land in the village.

Human Rights activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to release the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki who has been granted bail six times by different courts.


Ozekhome, in a letter to Buhari on Thursday tagged, “President Muhammadu Buhari, Please, Release Col. Sambo Dasuki in God’s Name”, insists Dasuki has not been convicted by any court of law to have warranted the long detention since December 2015.

Ozekhome, making references to the various bails including the one by ECOWAS Court, said a situation where government picks court order is dangerous.


He said, “We are having the dangerous situation where this government picks and chooses which orders to obey or disobey, an anarchical situation.

“The same government has so far refused to obey several orders for the release of the Shittes leader, El-Zakzaki. This is clearly against constitutionalism and the Rule of Law.”

The legal luminary further pleaded with the President to give Dasuki a lifeline by releasing him on bail.


“Mr President sir, in the name of almighty Allah, the Supreme God we all serve, let Dasuki go home on bail. Give him a breather. He has a family, friends and dependants to care for. He has not yet been convicted by any court of law.

“He is still presumed innocent under section 36 of the Nigerian Constitution.

“Give him a lifeline. Help us build strong institutions, not strong men. I appeal to you sir, on my bended kneels. Let the milk of human kindness flow in you. Seek ye not vengeance. 2019: PDP’s presidential candidate may emerge September 30

The Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate for the 2019 general election may emerge on September 30, The PUNCH learnt on Thursday .

A preliminary timetable for the party ’ s primaries , which was prepared by the national leadership of the former ruling party , also showed that the governorship candidates might emerge on September 21.

The document also showed that the primary for those interested in going to the Senate would hold on September 18, while that of the House of Representatives comes up four days earlier, which is September 14 .

The party has also tentatively scheduled its primary for the State Houses of Assembly for September 8 .

Local government congresses , where delegates are to be elected, have also been slated for August 31 , while that of the wards, where three ward ad hoc delegates are to be elected, are scheduled for August 25.

All aspirants interested in any elective position on the platform of the party are expected to start buying their nomination forms from August 13.

However , members of the National Executive Committee of the party are expected to ratify the proposal before it becomes binding .

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) will today list the FGN N10.69 billion Green Bond on the Exchange, as part of efforts to make Nigeria one of the favoured investment destinations in Africa.

Nigeria became the first the first nation to issue a climate bonds certified sovereign green bond, the first African nation to issue a sovereign green bond and the fourth nation in the world to issue after Poland, France and Fiji.

Green bonds are fixed income, liquid financial instruments used to raise funds dedicated to climate mitigation, adaptation and other environment-friendly projects. This provides investors with an attractive investment proposition and an opportunity to support environmentally and socially sound projects.


Market analysts had said considering that Nigeria derives more than 90 per cent of its export income from crude oil, the push for green bonds to support initiatives aimed at moderating climate change by investing in solar plants, hydro power and agriculture is particularly noteworthy.

Former Minister of Environment and now Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Amina Mohammed had last year commended NSE for conceptualising the idea of the green bond.

“The NSE sowed the seeds, they talked to me about sustainability principles and what business could do. We thought ‘hey what about green bonds’ – Nigeria was looking for an instrument that worked with its ‘Intended Nationally Determined Contribution’ and its national strategy to bring jobs and green infrastructure investment. Green Bonds provides a new product with new credentials that investors could buy into, which has gone through a vigorous process to ensure transparency, accountability in use of funds and is environmental friendly,” she said.

According to market operators, sovereign green bond represents a new stage in the development of the Nigerian capital markets and opens the way for further corporate issuance and international investment. The NSE is playing a key role in helping to develop this enormous opportunity for Nigeria while fulfilling one of its key objectives as a member of the UN Sustainable Stock Exchange Initiative.

Market operators have called on government to implement tax incentives to issuers, while grant schemes should also be instituted to address some of the costs of issuing bonds for corporates including independent reviews and project assessment and evaluation.

Meanwhile, the stock market continued with its losing streak with the NSE All-Share Index depreciating further by 0.76 to close at 36,470.05.

Quote:The All Progressives Congress (APC) Thursday made deft moves to avert an impending exodus of its bigwigs to the leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The peace initiative, Akelicious gathered, was being spearheaded by President Muhammadu Buhari, who Thursday met with Senate President Bukola Saraki, believed to be the arrowhead of the impending mass movement, and appealed to him to stay back in the party.


Saraki and other aggrieved top members of the APC massed in the reformed All Progressives Congress (rAPC), including Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) had met with the leaders of the PDP on Wednesday in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, to consider the absorption of the rAPC.

Akelicious had reported Thursday that although the PDP leaders, including Governor Nyesom Wike and the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, had gone to Ilorin ostensibly to commiserate with Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, an rAPC chieftain, over the death of his mother, a meeting to discuss their possible crossover to the PDP actually held.

Buhari’s meeting with Saraki, the outcome of which was not made public, held simultaneously with another, between Ortom, who had indicated on Tuesday that he had technically left the APC, and the National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole.

The former Edo State governor publicly appealed to Ortom not to return to the PDP.

Akelicious gathered that Saraki’s meeting with Buhari at the Presidential Villa Thursday was set up by APC governors, including Alhaji Aminu Masari (Katsina State), Senator Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun State) and Senator Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi State), who after initial discussions with the Senate president at his Abuja residence on Wednesday night, prevailed on the president to meet with him and persuade him not to defect from the party.

The APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole too, Akelicious learnt, spent much of Monday at Saraki’s house trying to straighten things out.

Oshiomhole’s effort was said to have been followed up in Ilorin on Wednesday by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Niyi Adebayo, who led a delegation on a fence mending mission.

Masari, Amosun and Bagudu were said to have advised Buhari to meet with Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, to persuade them to reconsider their decision to move out of the APC as this could adversely affect the fortune of the party in 2019.

The president, Akelicious learnt, agreed with the governors and met with Saraki Thursday even as he is expected to meet with Dogara around the weekend.

Although there was no statement after the presidential fence-mending, it was learnt that there was no concrete resolution as both leaders left the meeting with all options left open.

Meanwhile, Oshiomhole vowed Thursday that the party would not allow Ortom to defect to the PDP.

He said the national leadership of APC would do everything possible to ensure that peace returned to the Benue State chapter and that Ortom remained in the party.

Oshiomhole, who spoke to journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja after meeting with Ortom, described the governor as a man of honour that could not afford to eat his vomit.

He said: “In Benue, we are going for a win-win solution. Governor Ortom is not going anywhere, he is a very prominent member of our party, we appreciate his leadership in Benue and we will do everything possible to help those who have issues to have those issues resolved.

“People like Ortom who have honour cannot leave PDP just three and a half years ago with his eyes open and then later there are some tensions in his master bedroom and is thinking of returning to deceiving people. That cannot be an option.

“He is a man of honour and he knows that one should look for one step if you want to take the second step to concentrate the first step, that’s the way to go.”

He said the problem between the governor and his erstwhile godfather, Senator George Akume, would be resolved.

However, Ortom told journalists that the issues were yet to be resolved.

He accused Akume of trying to push him out of the APC.

He said, “I was given red card by Senator Akume, who is the leader of the captives in Benue State and I took it as I was serious enough to make myself available.

“But the leadership of the party told me that the decision of the party leadership at the national level is superior to any individual and I think that is good enough.

“We have spoken to him, he has spoken to me, stakeholders are going to be spoken to and that is where I belong. We have not concluded the matter, it is an ongoing process because I have always stood for peace and I always want peace to prevail.”

Sometimes it’s easy to think, “Since no one cares about me, I won’t care about anyone!” Don’t be that way. Be the one to remember, care for, and love others! Be the first to love. Be the blesser and the giver.

The blessing you get from receiving is less, compared to that which you get from giving to others. Jesus said, “...It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

God’s promise isn’t to the one who receives but to the one who gives. So, rather than seek attention, for example, give it instead. Give love. Demonstrate love to everyone, including those who may have offended you, and to the ungodly that have no hope. That’s how God wants you to live.

Ronaldinho will marry two women at the same time, according to reports in Brazil.
It is believed that Ronaldinho asked Priscilla Coelho and Beatriz Souza for their hands in marriage in January last year, according to Brazilian columnist Leo Dias via The Mirror.
The 38-year-old, who actually announced his retirement from football in January, then gave them both engagement rings. It is reported that the two women have been, and are currently, living “harmoniously” with Ronaldinho in his mansion in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazilian columnist Leo Dias also claims that both women receive a monthly allowance of $5,000 from Ronaldinho to ‘spend as they please.’ They are to marry at a private ceremony inside the Santa Monica condominium in Rio.

Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho is reportedly set to marry two women at the same time.

The 38-year-old is allegedly living with ‘fiancees’ Priscilla Coelho and Beatriz Souza at his £5million Rio de Janeiro mansion, and are planning on taking the next step – with both of them – in August.

Ronaldinho, whose full name is Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, will wed his two partners in a private ceremony in the mansion, Brazilian media reports.

Bigamy is illegal in Brazil, and is punishable by up to six years in prison, however it is likely that a potential ‘wedding’ would simply be a ceremony with the two women and not registered as two official marriages.

The former Barcelona star allegedly started dating Beatriz in 2016, but continued his relationship with Priscilla, which began several years earlier.

According to reports, both lovers receive an ‘allowance’ of around £1,500 from the footballer to spend as they wish.

Whenever the name Rolls Royce is mentioned, it comes with class, wealth and royalty. The company seems to be diversifying into flying taxis. Remember the likes of Telsa, Uber, Airbus and some other auto firm are already in this race, so Rolls Royce has joined the bandwagon.

Rolls-Royce has revealed more details around its plans to launch a five-seater flying taxi and confirmed that a prototype vehicle will take to the skies next year.

The timeline for the launch was announced during a keynote presentation at the Farnborough Airshow, in Hampshire.

Rolls-Royce expects the taxi to be operational within the next three to five years. 

The aerospace company has purportedly ploughed millions into the development of the vehicle, which has cost Rolls-Royce in the 'single-digit millions of pounds'.

The hybrid-electric vehicle will be capable of both vertical take-off and landing, bypassing the need for a runway.

Rolls-Royce says its plane will transport five passengers at speeds of up to 250mph (402 km/h) with a maximum range of 500 miles (800 km).

The Rolls-Royce presentation allowed the world-leading engineering company to divulge more details on its flying taxi concept, which it teased ahead of the keynote.

Rolls-Royce believes flying taxis will revolutionize the way people travel.

Speaking during the keynote, head of Rolls-Royce's electrical team, Rob Watson said: 'In this market, you will see something like this flying within three to five years, and we will demonstrate the system in two years.

Once it has reached the right altitude, the propellers on the wing can be folded away, reducing drag and cabin noise, with the craft relying upon the two rear propellers for thrust, Rolls-Royce claims.

Rolls-Royce says its flying taxi will be able to make use of pre-existing infrastructures, such as heliports on-top of buildings and airports.

'Building on our existing expertise in electric technologies and aviation, Rolls-Royce is actively exploring a range of possible markets and applications for electric and hybrid electric flight. Rolls-Royce has a strong track record as pioneers in aviation.

ARIK Air management has pledged to enhance its cooperation with the Nigerian Police in a bid to further boost security at the nation’s airports.


The airline said information sharing was necessary in order to curb criminal acts in the sector, stressing that without the collaboration of all security agencies, it would be difficult for the government to achieve security of lives and equipment in the industry.

The Senior Vice President Operations, Arik Air, Captain Adetokunbo Adekunbi stated this on Monday when the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Airport Police Command, Mr Danjuma Ibrahim paid the airline a courtesy visit at its headquarters at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

Adekunbi who represented the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the airline, Capt. Roy Ilegbodu said the airline had always taken security as a top-notch since its establishment and pledged to continue with the tradition.

He assured the AIG that the airline would continue to cooperate with the airport command and would not hesitate to share security information when the need arises.
Earlier, AIG Ibrahim lauded the management of the airline for its continuous collaboration with the command. He noted that the report he received when he assumed office indicated that the airline had over the years supported the command and appealed to the management to continue with the collaboration.

Ibrahim also recalled that the Airport Command was previously headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police and later to Commissioner of Police before the current improvement to Assistant Inspector General of Police.
He explained that his primary responsibility at the airport was to improve on the existing security network, a task he promised to fulfil.

FEDERAL Government of Nigeria, through the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, today revealed the branding and livery for the new national Flag Carrier Nigeria Air due to be launched at the end of this year stating that it has selected 81 for domestic, regional and international operations for the airline.


The Minister also stated that government will come up with initial funding for this new venture.

Sirika who made this known during a Press Conference launching Nigeria Air at the Farnborough Air Show in London today said with regards funding government will not have more than 5% government share.

Senator Sirika said, “Government will not hold shares beyond 5% at the topmost. This airline is having the backing of the government. Government will come up with start-up funding according to the business case that has just been delivered to it.”
“We have selected 81 routes. 40 for domestic, regional and sub-regional and of course international routes about 41.”
“I am very pleased to tell you that we are finally on track to launching a new national flag carrier for our country: Nigeria Air.  We are all fully committed to fulfilling the campaign promise made by our President, Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.  We are aiming to launch Nigeria Air by the end of this year”.

He continued: “I want to personally thank our Transaction Advisers, led by AMG, and the special Task Force, who have worked diligently to achieve the results so far and overcome the challenges involved. We obtained the Certificate of Compliance from the Nigerian Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) two weeks ago and can now go into the investor search. I am confident that we will have a well-run national flag carrier, a global player, compliant to international safety standards, one which has the customer at its heart. We hope to establish an airline that communicates the essence of our beautiful country, an airline we can all be proud of.”
The minister continued: “‘Following extensive market research, the branding of our new airline, Nigeria Air, demonstrates a true flag carrier of our nation, soaring through the skies in the shape of our nation’s eagle.”

The branding and naming of the new national carrier comes on the back of a social media campaign undertaken under the auspices of The Ministry of Transportation (Aviation) which invited Nigerian youth and students for their input and creativity to come up with a name for the new Nigerian flag carrier. The Facebook page and websitenameyourairlinenigeria engaged over 400,000 people up until the deadline for submissions, which was on 25th June 2018.
In addition, detailed and extensive market research was commissioned by the Ministry of Transportation (Aviation), which involved focus groups across Nigeria and over 100 interviews with aviation stakeholders and professionals, politicians, Nigerian business owners, students and a broad spectrum of people across Nigeria.

The research concluded that Nigeria is a proud nation with diverse populace, a strong cultural heritage and a people that are hungry for a unifying national flag carrier.

The Ministry of Transportation (Aviation) is also currently running an aviation road map that includes airport concessions, Aerotropolis, an aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Center, agro allied terminals, the National Carrier and an aircraft leasing company.
The Nigerian Government will support the launch of the new flag carrier with viability gap funding, in a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to deliver a national flag carrier, guided by the international ICAO standards, that will stand the IOSA audit from the start, and lead to a fast IATA membership for international operation.
He assured Nigerians and the international community that government had learnt a lot of lessons from the experience of the defunct Nigeria Airways, and now determined not to repeat the mistakes that led to its demise. This, he said, informed the decision to take the Public Private Partnership (PPP) approach.
He explained that the unveiling of the airline at the Farnborough International Airshow was cognisant of the fact that being the largest congregation of global aviation industry players, the event affords the best opportunity to market the airline to prospective investors and register it in the minds of all stakeholders ahead of its formal launch billed to take place in Abuja before the end of the year.

Firms to get N348b fuel subsidy refund

                              
Senators yesterday approved the payment of over N348 billion outstanding oil subsidy claims to 74 petroleum marketers.

The upper chamber gave the approval following its adoption of the interim report of its Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) on the Promissory Note Programme and a Bond Issuance to Settle Inherited Local Debts and Contractual Obligations to Petroleum marketers.

The breakdown of the payment, according to the report, showed that of the N348 billion, 55 oil marketers are to receive N275,750,415,108; 19 others will get N73,452,639,866.

The committee recommended that 55 oil marketers should be paid 100 percent of their claims, while 65 percent claims should be paid to 19 marketers due to some irregularities in their claims.


The Senate asked the committee to continue its engagement with the Ministry of Finance, oil marketing companies, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and other stakeholders in order to update all the outstanding liabilities and clear all outstanding debts, interests accrued and forex differential once and for all.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Kabir Marafa said that although marketers made claims to the tune of N670,497,543,15, as of June 30, 2017, the PPPRA verified and approved the sum of N429,054,203,228 to the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Marafa noted that while the verified figure was approved by the Federal Executive Council, further verification by the Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA) reduced the amount to N407,255,263,288.

He also said that continuous delay of the approval of the promissory note request would affect the liquidity of the Oil Marketing Companies and undermine their crucial role in the development of the economy.

Some of the oil marketers and the amount approved for them are: Aiteo N4,988,199,360; Conoil N5,588,285,132; Forte Oil N15,480,445,907; Bovas N5,953,684,258; Capital Oil N8,339,052,402; Mobil N8,282,363,478; MRS Oil and Gas N20,948,270,002; Oando N14,972,585,600; Total N21,569,996,843.

Heads to roll as Fed Govt uncovers N62.555b fraud in NSITF

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) is a cesspool of fraud and lawlessness, a report has said

A Federal Government panel has uncovered about N62.555 billion fraud in the agency.

The money was spent without proper accounting procedures being followed, according to the panel, which submitted its report to the government yesterday.

Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige said any member of the staff indicted by the report will face the law.


The chairman of the Administrative Panel, Ishaya Awotu, said while presenting its final report to the minister that the Fund’s books have not been fully audited since 2011.

The panel discovered that several unauthorised allowances were paid to the staff and the management. Overseas trips and training were carried out without approval from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation as required by civil service rules.

The minister had in February 2018 inaugurated the panel to investigate the finances of the Fund, following a damning report from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) indicting former Board members.

Some senior management staff were sent on compulsory leave to allow the panel carry out its assignment without any interference.

Awotu said that the panel noticed weaknesses in the operation of the Fund, adding that even though it had External Auditors from 2011 to 2015, the audited financial statements and the management letters for year 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 were submitted to the management, but were incomplete.

He said: “As at the time of forwarding this report, none of the years audited accounts has been concluded while the audit reports remained unsigned. The basis for management’s re-appointment of the external auditors for the auditing of 2015 accounts could not be ascertained;


“The Fund does not have Financial Operational Manual to guide in its financial activities while compliance with the provisions of the Financial Regulations in carrying out their financial transactions was very weak;

“Bank reconciliation of most of the bank accounts of the Fund was not carried out. Without the reconciliation of the bank statements, irregular payments and fraud committed on the accounts cannot be detected. Furthermore, financial statements prepared from unreconciled accounts cannot be reliable. Non-reconciliation of bank accounts violates Section 716 of the Financial Regulations;

“The internal Audit function of the Fund was ineffective. The Panel observed that for the period 2013 to 2017, the internal Audit Department did not audit the cashbooks of the various bank accounts at the headquarters of the Fund; books and records of Investments and Treasury Department, Procurement Processes, Registration of Employers and payment of contributions by the Employers, Enforcement and Inspection activities, Fixed Assets etc. The lack of effective auditing of the Fund’s accounts and records violates section 1701 of the Financial Regulations;

“It was observed that the Fund was operating with incomplete books of accounts. Several bank statements of the various bank accounts, cashbooks, etc. were not submitted for audit examination and sighting. Financial statements (accounts) produced from such accounting system cannot be reliable.”

According to the report, “there were several transfers of funds in between bank accounts without authorization and approvals”. “The sum of N15,737,757,697.91 was transferred from one account to another. Evidence of the approvals and payment vouchers authorising the transfers were not presented to the Panel, it said.

Observations are that:
N2,990,184,262.77 was expended on computerisation and other related lCT equipment without tangible result;
Overseas tours and trainings were undertaken without the approval of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation;
the Fund does not maintain Expenditure Vote Control Books required for the monitoring and control of the various sub-heads. None maintenance of the vote-books made it impossible for the Fund to control extra budgetary spending;
N2,650,731,225.93 deducted from various payments in respect of Withholding Tax (VAT), Pay-As-You-Earn (PAVE), Value Added Tax, Pension and National Housing Fund were not remitted to the relevant authorities;
N5, 744,968,834.13 “irregular allowances” were paid to staff and management.

“Some of the allowances such as Management Staff Allowance, Staff Education Allowance. DSTV Subscription Allowance, Dressing Allowance, Generator and Motor Vehicle Fueling Allowance paid to staff and management were not provided for in the Condition of Service of the Fund.
Payment vouchers in the sum of N27,056,598,053.92 were not presented to the Panel for audit examination and sighting; and
Payment vouchers in the sum of N8,376,083,789.72 were without adequate supporting documents

The panel recommend that the management should conclude the External Auditors’ Reports for 2011 to 2015. New external auditors should be appointed immediately to audit the accounts of 2016 and 2017 financial years.

The panel also said that NSITF should carry out full reconciliation of assets acquired and recorded in the cashbooks against the Fixed Assets Register.

“The Staff Condition of Service should be reviewed, with immediate effect, to correct lapses contained therein. There is also the need to review the investment Policy Document of the Fund,” the report said, adding:

“A professional firm of accountants should be engaged to carry out in-depth examination of transfers in-between the accounts to ensure that the transfers of N15, 37,757,697.91 were properly accounted for.

“The Firm should also carry out the bank reconciliation of the accounts of the Fund from its inception to date to assure that there are no financial losses resulting from the non-reconciliation of the accounts.”

The panel demanded to see the payment vouchers N27,056,598,053.92 that were not presented to it for audit examination and sighting;

The Fund should also produce the relevant supporting documents . for the various payment vouchers with total monetary value of N8,376,083,789.72 to substantiate the payments, the report said.

It also recommended that a financial plan on the remittance of the N2,650,731,225.93 deducted from staff salaries to various authorities should be made.

Receiving the report, Ngige promised that it would be implemented fully and the lapses identified corrected.

He said “Those findings especially about overseas trips which are unauthorised will be dealt with because they are actions that breached public service rules. It is not true that parastatals are exempted from public service rules. This report will be fully implemented and areas of lapses corrected. So many government organisations have gone under because of situations like this.”

He went on: “Following the whistle blowing policy of this administration, the EFCC moved into the place and did some forensic auditing of the accounts of the agency.

“After reading the EFCC report, we felt it was necessary to set up this administrative panel to find out why the internal audit mechanism broke down in such a way that the N62 billion contributed cannot be seen.

“Those indicted included those nominated by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association. So, we were not in a hurry because we needed to give the new board a new lease of life because you don’t put new wine in old wine skin.”

Mother spends four hours EVERY DAY bathing her 9-month-old daughter to help treat her rare condition that causes her skin to grow 10 times faster than normal

A mother spends at least four hours every day bathing her nine-month-old to treat a rare condition that causes her daughter's skin to grow up to 10 times faster than normal.
Anna, from New York, suffers from Harlequin ichthyosis, which causes her red skin to shed every day, as well as putting the youngster at risk of life-threatening infections and respiratory failure.
Mother-of-three Jennie, 33, applies lotion to her daughter's skin at least every six hours and has given up working as a farmer to care for Anna full time.
Although draining, Jennie's efforts have not been in vain, with Anna's condition dramatically improving and many strangers commenting on how 'beautiful' the baby is.   
Jennie said: 'When they told me there was a chance she wouldn't survive, I decided that wasn't an option. I'm not going to watch my child die.'
She is speaking out to help raise money towards finding a Harlequin ichthyosis cure.

WHAT IS HARLEQUIN ICHTHYOSIS?
Harlequin ichthyosis is a severe genetic disorder that mainly affects the skin.
It is unclear how many people suffer from it.  
Babies born with the condition have very hard, thick skin covering most of their bodies.
This skin forms large plates separated by deep cracks, which limit movement.
Restricted movement of the chest can lead to breathing difficulties and respiratory failure.
Most sufferers die from infections within the first few weeks of life.
This is due to the skin normally forming a protective barrier between the body and the outside environment. 
Skin abnormalities in Harlequin ichthyosis disrupt this barrier, which also makes it harder for patients to regulate their temperature and control water loss.
There is no cure, however, moisturisers help to keep patients' skin soft, while antibiotics fight any infections.

'She's a very happy baby'  
Speaking of Anna's condition, Jennie said: 'When she's in the water, she's very comfortable and she usually remains like that for a while after a two-hour long bath.
'The lotions I treat her with basically moisturise and exfoliate her skin and eyes.
'She is starting to scratch herself a little, but for the most part she remains in good spirits. She's a very happy baby.
'Most newborns don't survive with this, so we were very cautious with her. 
'Having strangers stop and recognize her as a "normal" baby has made me realise how much the work I've put into treating her has already made a difference.'
'She can do so many things other children can'
According to Jennie, the most difficult part of caring for Anna is the lack of information on her condition.
She said: 'For the first month of Anna's life, I could hardly find any information.
'At the Ichthyosis conference I went to, a doctor was asking the parents questions instead of giving us information.'
Yet when Anna was one-month-old, Jennie discovered Harlequin ichthyosis support groups on social media, which have given her the opportunity to speak to other parents whose children suffer from the disease. 
Jennie said: 'Now I feel like it's easier. I talk to mums from all around the world and they give me tips about what I should do.
'These kids just have extra skin. They can do so many things that other children can. I wouldn't have realised that if I wasn't always talking to the mums.'

She said: 'We used to get negative comments here and there, but those stopped after I started educating everyone about her condition.
'Now that I'm open about it, the whole town knows Anna and they always have nice things to say.'
Dr Anton Alexandroff, from the British Skin Foundation, says creams and lotions are essential to calm the disease, adding: 'The condition requires regular moisturising throughout the day and medication called retinoids may help to control it.
'The patient's skin is covered in hard, shiny, thickened plates of skin separated by deep red fissures.
'Patients cannot sweat and regulate fluid loss, which may result in dehydration and heat stroke.'

The Central Bank of Nigeria says it has recovered over N65bn from commercial banks in the country for wrongful deductions and charges from customers’ deposits and other transactions in the last six years.

The Acting Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Mr Isaac Okorafor, stated this on Wednesday on the sidelines of a two-day fair with the theme: ‘Promoting Financial Stability and Economic Development’ for stakeholders in Asaba, Delta State.

Okorafor explained that the recovery was made between 2012 and now, stressing that the funds had since been returned to customers, who hitherto complained of wrongful charges and deductions by commercial banks.

“We have recovered and returned to customers over N65bn out of complaints by people over acts of treatment on customers, wrong charges, wrong deductions and others since 2012/2013 when we started,” he said.

He stated that the purpose of the fair was to have a face to face interaction with customers and critical stakeholders in order to understand their challenges and proffer solutions.

Okorafor added that hawking of various denominations of the naira was an offence punishable under the CBN Act of 2005, and warned that the apex bank would not tolerate the breach of its Act, and called on those involved, particularly its staff members, to desist from the practice as they would be dismissed if caught.

He, however, blamed the police for the lack of prosecution of offenders who were caught hawking naira during various raids in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Onitsha, Ibadan and other cities.

He stated, “The CBN is very committed to making sure that people do not hawk the naira, because it is an offence punishable under the CBN Act of 2005. We have made it clear to any of our staff involved in the practice that they will be dismissed.

“We have also made it clear to banks that any of them caught doing it will be severely punished. We are a regulator and not a law enforcement agency. It is the duty of the Nigerian Police to enforce the law. We have collaborated with them at different times.

“We have had raids in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Onitsha, Ibadan and so on, and we will continue to do that, and people have been caught and money confiscated. We are waiting on the police to begin to prosecute those people.”

The bears continued to dominate transactions on the equity sector of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), as most blue chip stocks depreciated in price, causing the All-share index to plunge further by 0.6 per cent.

Yesterday, the All- share index shed 215.52 points, representing a decline of 0.58 per cent to close at 36,748.18 points. Also, the market capitalisation declined by N78billion to close at N13.312trillion.

The negative sentiment was impacted by losses recorded in medium and large capitalised stocks, amongst which are; Guaranty Trust Bank, Okomu Oil, FBN Holdings, Oando, and Nigerian Breweries.

Analysts from Cordros Capital, said: “in our view, the continued sell-offs call for cautious trading among investors, amidst absence of a near-term one-off positive catalyst in the short to medium term. However, still-positive macro-economic fundamentals remain supportive of gains on the long term.”

The Chief Research Officer, Investdata Consulting, Ambrose Omodion, said: “Reversal is imminent if more positive Q2 earnings reports hit the market today, considering undervalued state of equities and high yields. Investors should review their position in line with their investment goals and act as events unfold in the global and domestic environment.”

Market breadth closed negative, with 20 gainers versus 23 losers. Continental Reinsurance recorded the highest price gain of 10 per cent, to close at N1.65, while PZ Industries followed with a gain of 9.74 per cent to close at N16.90 per share.

International Breweries appreciated by 9.33 per cent to close at N41, while Japaul Oil and Maritime Services, and McNichols gained 9.09 per cent each to close at 36kobo and 72kobo per share, respectively.

On the other hand, FBN Holdings led the losers’ chart by 9.76 per cent, to close at N9.25, while Oando followed with a loss of 9.52 per cent to close at N4.75, per share.
Wema Bank declined by 8.82 per cent to close at 62kobo, while Caverton Offshore Support Group, and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance shed 7.14 per cent each to close at N1.95, and 26kobo per share, respectively.

Also, total volume traded depreciated by 11.05 per cent to 181.28 million shares worth N1.64billion, traded in 3,854 deals. Transactions in the shares of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) topped the activity chart with 16.77 million shares valued at N20.64million. Zenith Bank followed with 15.15 million shares worth N361.67million, while Fidelity Bank traded 14.94 million shares valued at N29.79million.Oando traded 11.12 million shares valued at N53.63million, while Access Bank transacted 10.69 million shares worth N106.98million.

CHARGED UP IN THE HOLY GHOST.


He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself… (1 Corinthians 14:4).

One of the synonyms for the Greek word translated “edify” is to “charge,” like a battery. Jude 1:20 (AMPC) says, “But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit.” He’s telling you to get charged up in the Holy Ghost; embolden yourself in the Holy Ghost through speaking in tongues.

This is what you do when there’re matters arising: you charge yourself up in the Holy Ghost! Are there projects you want to undertake and you’re somewhat not sure what steps to take? Get charged up in the Holy Ghost! Activate the wisdom and power of God by praying in the Holy Ghost until you’re filled with the Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18 says, “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” This is the secret to a day-to-day life of the miraculous and supernatural: being filled with the Spirit. If someone was timid, and began the exercise of speaking in tongues consistently, soon enough, he’d become bold and sound.

When you speak in other tongues, and your spirit is charged, it takes over your mind; your spirit will rise like a giant from within and dominate the outward man. Paul said to Timothy, “...stir up the gift of God that is in you…” (2 Timothy 1:6). One of the ways to do this is through speaking in tongues.

The reason some Christians faint in the day of adversity is because their inner man is weak, and the reason for that weakness is that they don’t speak in tongues sufficiently. Speaking in tongues imparts courage to your spirit. It produces in you a sense of absolute dominion over adversities.

Refuse to live an ordinary life. There’s power in you; stir it up always. In your privacy, speak in tongues. When you’re on the go, speak in tongues. Keep yourself supercharged all the time. This isn’t for a particular Christian denomination; it’s for every child of God. Get yourself charged up in the Holy Ghost always.


CONFESSION

I’m emboldened, strengthened and fortified by the Spirit to do all that the Lord has called me to do. I’m filled with miracle-working ability by the greater One who lives in me, energizing me from within! Glory to God!

My life is the manifestation of the graces, many-sided wisdom, and perfections of God, whose glory I am, and whose presence I carry. Christ lives in me; His life and immortality have been unveiled in my spirit! I am a partaker of the God-life— a life that is superior to sickness, disease, satan, and death! I walk in dominion today over death and everything associated with darkness, for I dwell in the realm of life. I’ve passed from death to life; therefore, all that is associated with death can never Lord it over me. Quote:A coalition of domestic and international election observers accredited to observe the July 14 governorship poll in Ekiti State said the election fell short of global best practices and electoral standards.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kayode Fayemi, as the winner of the election.


The observers, who comprised representatives from over 50 domestic organisations, human rights groups and international election observer bodies, based their report on lapses noticed in the conduct of the election, especially the role of security agencies.

The observers include Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness, Nigeria; Justice and Equity Organisation, Nigeria; International Republican Institute, United States of America; and Patriotic Women Foundation, Abuja, as well as the other bodies from the African Unions, among others.


The observers, who praised INEC for the proper conduct of the poll in line with global and constitutional dictates and standards, faulted the deployment of 30,000 policemen for the election.

The observers stated that the conduct of some of the security operatives and unwholesome practices of vote buying — where voters surreptitiously showed which party they voted to party agents who went behind to settle them, largely marred the electoral process.

They also said the election was characterised by ballot box snatching, sporadic shootings and driving away of some party agents as well as intimidation, oppression and forceful influence of electorate’s free will, among others.

The observers, therefore, held that the July 14 poll could not be recommended as a template for the forthcoming 2019 general elections as it fell short of global standards and spelt doom.

Addressing newsmen on behalf of the domestic observers, Gabriel Nwambu, of the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness, Abuja, said, “The exercise witnessed a high level of unprecedented electoral related challenges and such abuse will remain contentious until justice prevails, especially in the areas of cash inducement, arrests of political stalwarts by security agents and snatching of electoral materials by political thugs, among other abuses.

“Party agents had huge cash and were close to voting points. Security agents were indifferent to cash inducement of voters. The whole process falls short of the compliance with international best standards.”

The Management of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has expressed readiness to invest additional $3billion in its existing stakes in offshore oil and gas operations in the Nigerian jurisdiction.

Leading a team of CNOOC top executives to the corporate headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Yuan Guangyu, Chief Executive Officer of the Beijing based corporation, described its investment in Nigeria as the most strategic and important overseas business undertaking.

He said CNOOC had invested over $14 billion in its Nigerian operations, even as he called on the management of the NNPC to seek common grounds of beneficial interest with CNOOC for enhanced productivity.

Yuan Guangyu said Nigeria remained the largest investment destination for CNOOC.

Responding, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, who was represented by Dr. Victor Babatunde Adeniran, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Ventures Autonomous Business Unit of the corporation, thanked CNOOC for its interest in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry.

He said the corporation was open to new investments and would foster meaningful and mutually beneficial relations with credible entities like CNOOC.

Founded in 1982, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation is one of the three big Chinese national oil entities. CNOOC is originally focused on offshore exploration and production, whereas the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is slanted towards onshore upstream exploration and production. SINOPEC, the third of the tripod, is focused on refining and marketing.

Although there are about 240 million telephone connections in Nigeria, with no fewer than 160 million active lines, the country has 93.3 million unique mobile phone subscribers.

Unique subscribers mean individual connections to a device, but Nigeria has a multi-Sims culture, which has fueled the exponential growth in telephone connections in the country in the last one and a half decade.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday in Kigali, Rwanda at the opening of the 2018 GSMA Mobile 360 Conference, Lead Analyst, GSMA, Kenechi Okeleke, disclosed that research showed that Nigeria had 93.3 million subscribers as at last year.


He noted that by 2025, there should be an additional 37 million unique subscribers, which would push the figure further up to 130 million.

The GSMA represents and protects the interest of‎ global mobile communications industry with over 800 members, including Nigeria.

In his welcome address, GSMA’s Head of sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Akinwale Goodluck, said over half of SSA’s population would subscribe to mobile services by 2025.

Goodluck, a former MTN Nigerian chief, said the latest edition of GSMA’s Mobile Economy report forecast that there would be 634 million unique mobile subscribers across the SSA by 2025, which represents 52 per cent of the population, up from 444 million (44 per cent) in 2017.

He explained that the mobile ecosystem would add over $150 billion in financial value to SSA’s economy by 2022, representing almost eight per cent of regional gross domestic product (GDP).

Chief Regulatory Officer at GSMA, John Giusti, said: “For many people in the region, especially those in rural areas, a mobile phone is not just a communication device but also the primary channel for getting online and a vital tool for improving connectivity.

“More needs to be done to extend connectivity to the unconnected and underserved populations in Sub-Sahara Africa, but this will require focusing on long-term industry sustainability that can only be achieved through investment-friendly policies and supportive regulatory frameworks.”

Responding, Rwanda’s Minister of Information and Technology, Jean De Dien Rurangwa, pointed out that Africa needed regional integration to connect the unconnected.

He stated that the mobile ecosystem has brought rapid economic development to the country with Rwanda ranking among the leading information and communications technology (ICT) nations of the world.

He said Africa was the ideal destination for new businesses, urging governments on the continent to work on improving the region’s business climate.

Rurangwa said technology had influenced every aspect of Rwanda and changed lives positively from 14 per cent in 2008 to 72 per cent and 89 per cent in 2012 and 2016 respectively.

Investors Suffer N110bn Loss, As NSE Index Down 0.81%

Lagos – The negative performance of the Nigerian stocks market, yesterday dragged investors’ investment down by N110 billion.
The Nigerian Stock Exchange, All-Share Index (NSE-ASI) shed 303.16 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.81 per cent to close at 36,963.70 points, while year-to-date loss rose to 3.35 per cent. Also, the market capitalisation declined by N110 billion to close at N13.390 trillion.
The downturn was impacted by losses recorded in medium and large capitalised stocks, Okomu Oil, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, Lafarge Africa, International Breweries and Julius Berger.

Analysts at Afrinvest Limited noted that “despite the negative sentiment in the market, we anticipate a rebound in subsequent sessions as investors hunt for bargain opportunities. Our view is further buttressed by the Relative Strength Index (RSI) of 36.1 points which is close to the oversold region.” 
Market breadth closed negative, with 14 gainers versus 33 losers. Sovereign Trust Insurance recorded the highest price gain of eight per cent, to close at 27 kobo per share. Wema Bank followed with a gain of 7.94 per cent to close at 68 kobo, while Japaul Oil and Maritime Services appreciated by 6.45 per cent to close at 31 kobo per share.

Mutual Benefits Assurance appreciated by 5.88 per cent  to close at 36 kobo, while continental Reinsurance gained 3.45 per cent to close at N1.50 per share.
On the other hand, Capital Oil and Julius Berger led the losers’ chart by 10 per cent each, to close at 27 kobo and N24.30, while GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria followed with a loss of 9.97 per cent to close at N16.70, per share.
PZ Industries declined by 9.94 per cent to close at N15.40, while Consolidated Hallmark Insurance shed 9.68 per cent to close at  28 kobo  per share.
Also, the total volume traded declined by 32.84 per cent to 203.80 million shares, worth N2.39 billion, and traded in 4,178 deals. Transactions in the shares of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) topped the activity chart with 20.71 million shares valued at N26.56 million. Access Bank followed with 19.5 million shares worth N195.42 million, while Zenith Bank traded 15.42 million shares valued at N368.71 million.
Sovereign Trust Insurance traded 13.3 million shares valued at N3.5 million, while Custodian Investments transacted 12.67 million shares worth N69.38 million.

A GRATEFUL HEART.


Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:20).

Some people don’t know the value and power of a grateful heart; therefore, they complain over everything. If they aren’t bemoaning the economic situation, they’re complaining about the pains in their bodies or about some other problem. They’re hardly ever happy, because they’re blind to all the good things happening in, and around them, for which they ought to be grateful.

There’re many who don’t appreciate or even recognise the progress they’ve made or the blessings of God in their lives. Life itself is a gift from God to enjoy every day; that you can even think that you deserve better is a blessing. So, look into your life and see that there’s a lot to be grateful for.

Perhaps you’ve learnt something new; your knowledge and understanding of God’s Word have improved; your prayer life has become richer; all these and more are important blessings to be grateful for, and excited about. The ministry and work of the Holy Spirit in your life, for example, is far greater than any physical or material blessing you could ever get. In fact, it’s what will give rise to other material blessings in your life.

True happiness in life transcends having a lot of money. There’ve been many who had a lot of money and all that money could buy, yet they were depressed, unhappy and ended up destroying themselves. In Luke 12:15, Jesus said, “…Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”

You’re never going to be satisfied because you have so much; therefore, learn to be content and grateful for all that the Lord is to you, has made you, and made available to you. Serve Him joyfully, putting Him first in your life. Be thankful, and excited about your life in Christ: His glory and righteousness that you are, and exude, as well as His power, wisdom, and grace by which you live triumphantly every day.


PRAYER

Blessed Lord, from the depth of my heart, I’m grateful to you; you mean more than the world to me. I acknowledge your grace, mercy, wisdom and power by which I live triumphantly today, prospering in all that I do. I worship you for making my life glorious, filling me with your precious Spirit, who is to me all the advantage I need in life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

President Muhammadu Buhari has requested the National Assembly to approve the sum of N228,854,008,215 from the 2018 budget to fund the 2019 general election and other critical projects in the country.

Buhari specifically told NASS to approve the N228.9 billion from N578, 319, 951.904 billion total projects sum inserted in the budget.

This is contained in a presidential memo dated July 11, 2018 read by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday.

If approved, the request titled: “Request for virement and supplementary 2018 budget” would cut deep into the controversial constituency projects funding for 2018.


The President said the aggregate cost of the 2019 elections is N242, 445,322,600.00

From the funds, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to receive N189.207 billion while the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) will get N4.2 billion.

The Department of State Services (DSS) will receive N12.213 billion while the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will get N3.573 billion.

The Nigeria Police Force is expected to get N30.541 billion while Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) will receive N2.628 billion.

The letter reads in part: “As you are aware, the 2019 general election is scheduled to be conducted early in 2019. To ensure that adequate arrangements are made for free and fair elections, it has become necessary to appropriate funds to enable the relevant agencies to commence preparations.

“INEC and security agencies have accordingly recently submitted their requests. These have been subjected to the usual budget evaluation. The aggregate cost of the elections is estimated at N242, 445,322,600.

A Borno based consultant and humanitarian, Mallam Yusuf Gulumbo, has revealed that about 100 ladies who are working for some International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) in the state - are pregnant and have also been infected with HIV.

According to Mallam Yusuf, the girls affected are said to be between 20-25 years old as an appeal was made to him today to use his office to prevent recruitment of unmarried ladies into the NGOs in a bid to curb the negative trend.

In another development, the community leaders that through the District Head of Gamboru is requesting my humble office suspend the INGOs from recruiting these unmarried girls into their operational activities because of the exploitation going on within their various institutions.

I have been my very since my inception into this office to sanitize the system but this time around with regards to the aforementioned allegations I want your sincere advice before I forge into action. ?

A final year Business Administration student of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, has been found dead inside an abandoned well, four days after going missing while being chased by SARS operatives.

News has it that the hostel of late Saliu Alli Haruna was invaded by the officers on Friday night, July 13. Scared by the sudden invasion, all the occupants of the hostel took to their heels, in different directions and surrounding bushes in the area.

Unfortunately for Haruna, he fell inside an abandoned well. He was subsequently declared missing, since no one knew what became of him after the raid. However, after almost four days of intense search, his body was discovered in the well.

Online users who are not happy with the way the agents operate, have heavily criticized and labelled them "reformed criminals" due to their looks.

According to some Nigerians, these are the same set of operatives who judge and arrest innocent people by their looks not knowing that they too look like thugs. 

Meanwhile, The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State command, Edgal Imohimi, has issued a stern warning to policemen attached to divisions in the state to desist from wearing mufti bearing ‘SARS’ (Special Anti-Robbery Squad) while carrying out official duties. He threatened to sanction any policeman who violates the directive.

To march his words with action, Edgal said the two policemen, who allegedly assaulted a lawyer last week in Ikoyi area of Lagos, would be demoted in ranks, for wearing plain clothes to effect the arrest of the legal practitioner.

An Alfa, Mustapha Hammed, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly raping a 29-year-old student of Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos.

The police said the 23-year-old suspect told the victim that he saw a vision that she would die in 24 hours, unless the student took three spiritual baths.

It was gathered that after the victim received the message, Hammed allegedly took the girl to Itowolo in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State for cleansing to avert the death.

While addressing the press during a parade at the state police command on Monday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, said the victim never knew Hammed had a clandestine plan, as he sexually assaulted her.

He also said since Hammed allegedly raped the victim, she had remained traumatised.

Imohimi said, “The Alfa deceived the victim that he saw in a vision that she was going to die within 24 hours. He took the girl to Ikorodu, Lagos, for cleansing so that she will not die.

“At Ikorodu, he raped the girl, who was a virgin.

“He thereafter wiped of her blood with a white handkerchief and since then, according to the victim’s father, the girl has been behaving abnormally because she was completely devastated and traumatised by the incident.”

Hammed confessed that he deflowered the girl when he took her to Itowolo in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State to spiritually cleanse her.



The Oyo State indigene said, “On April 7, 2018, I called the girl to come and meet me at my house. The girl is a friend to my girlfriend. When she came, I told her that I saw a vision that she has spiritual husband while I was praying and told her she needed to bath three times to solve the spiritual problem.

“The girl agreed to follow me to my house in Ikorodu. When we got there, she bathed the first time, but before she had the second bath, I had put a frog inside the water. I threw the frog inside the water because I want to marry her but do not know how to tell her.

“When she saw the frog, she ran out of the bathroom. I told her that it was a bad sign and she asked what to do. I then told her to call her boyfriend to meet her at my place. She told me that she could not call anybody and asked me to help her to do everything. She said she was still a virgin and told me to deflower her, so I did. But it was on that day that I realised that she was a virgin.

Hammond also said the girl was fine when they got back from Ikorodu, adding that he was not responsible for her abnormal behaviours.

He said, “When we came back to Bariga from Ikorodu, I saw her about two weeks ago and she was fine. I was arrested on Thursday, July 12, and they said I raped the girl and used her to do something; I did not use her to do anything.”

The CP said the case had been transferred to the Gender Section Unit for further investigation, adding that the suspect would be charged to court at the end of investigation.

A man identified as Sikiru, was, this afternoon, apprehended while having a carnal knowledge of his friend’s 12 years old daughter, around Muslim high school, Sagamu, Ogun State

A lady was said to have alerted the residents of the area after hearing the victim, Eniola, screaming in pain. Sikiru was, subsequently, mobbed while Eniola was rushed to the hospital. 

The suspect has since been handed over to the police from the Sagamu police divisional headquarters.

CHOSEN TO BE HIS WITNESS.


But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8).

Have you ever thought about the fact that God chose you before you were born, to be His witness? He knew you and foreordained you to live for His glory. The Bible says, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son…” (Romans 8:29).

God foreordained and planned that through you, He’ll bless and transform the lives of those in your world and in regions beyond. He set you apart to do His will, and to be His witness.
The Apostle Paul, understanding this, echoed the same message in Galatians 1:15-16: “But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen….” Paul’s passion and unrivalled commitment to the Gospel resulted from his knowledge and understanding that he was chosen and sent of God to turn the Gentiles from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God.

Recall his profound statement of commitment to the Gospel in 1 Corinthians 9:16: “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!” Become aware, convinced, and challenged by the divine mandate and obligation to preach the Gospel.
As in our opening verse, the power of the Holy Spirit in your life is to make you an effective witness of Jesus Christ; a minister of reconciliation. You’ve been given the mandate to preach the Gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15), and make disciples and pupils of the nations (Matthew 28:19). Make this your focus, and experience true fulfillment in your life.

PRAYER

Thank you, blessed Lord, for the power of the Holy Spirit working in, and through me to bring salvation to others. Preaching the Gospel to those in my world and in the regions beyond is my passion and purpose for living. Today, as the Gospel is preached and taught around the world, many come to the knowledge of Christ, and into their inheritance in Him, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

As I meditate on the Word, I build a wealth of thoughts that keep me in the arena of excellence, health, and prosperity, causing me to live the best life here on earth. I am well positioned to fulfil God’s desire and plan for my life, as I give myself daily to the Word. The word of God is in my heart and in my mouth; I’ve been granted the Holy Spirit to help me become a more effective minister of the Gospel, having greater influence, reach and impact in the world. I am invigorated with divine might and ability in my spirit for the supernatural.

I am empowered to do the impossible, for down in my heart is the very nature of the Father. The effect of the life and nature of God in my spirit is apparent in everything that I do. Two persons, one Mr David Udo Okon from Ikot Asen, and Victor Etim Etim from Ikot Nkpene, were allegedly killed by police during fight in Akwa Ibom state. 

According to an eyewitness account, the sad incident happened on Saturday when Council Secretary, Mr Nseabasi Udoeyo, went to consult the village heads in Ibedu group of villages for his House of Assembly ambition.

The consultation which was to be held at Asan Ibedu, met resistance by some youths who told them that it's only party candidates that are usually received, not aspirants.

At that point, there was heated argument ensued between the council secretary (aspirant), the anti-cult police and the youths who were at the venue for routine cleaning exercise.

It was further disclosed that the the police attempted to arrest one of the youths who wanted to chase Mr Udoeyo out of the area before the argument turned into a full fight between the anti-cult police and the youths, with two of them shot dead while allegedly trying to fight the policemen. 

Also destroyed where three cars, a Nissan Jeep, Honda End of Discussion, and a Camry car with other valuables.
