So now that you know a little about what a stroke Cardio Clear 7 Review  is and what if can do, how can we prevent it? Well, if the word PLAQUE sounded familiar to you, that's because it probably is. The same plaque that causes coronary heart disease and heart attacks causes strokes as well. So the prevention of strokes is generally the same in both cases and that is EATING HEALTHY AND EXERCISING! People in general live a much more sedentary lifestyle now than ever before, thanks to technology, and our diets tend to be far less healthy as well. So for those folks that do not exercise and don't eat healthy meals the two best pieces of advice to reduce the chances of stroke are to hire a fitness trainer and seek nutrition coaching to get your lifestyle back on track.

A fitness trainer can help you develop a program of physical fitness that will help you lose fat and build muscle, both will help you avoid all kinds of ailments. Plaque is much less likely to build up in a body that is actively involved in an intense exercise regimen. in addition, seeking nutrition coaching can help you to better plan your meals and stay away from the types of foods that will encourage the deposit of plaque on your arteries. Animals, for instance, contain cholesterol so the more red meat you eat more cholesterol you take in as well.

Feeling your diet with more fruits and vegetables as per the recommendations of the nutrition coach can help your arteries and vessels steer clear of cholesterol in the potential dangers build up of plaque. Both of these changes, a fitness trainer and nutrition coaching, can represent a huge shift in what you may have been doing for years but by adding these positive attributes in your life they may be just the thing that prevents you from suffering that the debilitating effects of a stroke.

Skin Care Review of Different Moisturizers' Ingredients

No one understands exactly why psoriasis occurs.   Gaias Protocol Review It is a very odd disorder because of how the skin grows almost ten times faster than the normal skin growth rate. It occurs randomly, it seems, but doctors believe that severe emotional stress and trauma are the main causes. They believe that a huge amount of stress may trigger something in the immune system, causing a genetic defect that was inherited to show up. This defect goes unnoticed when the person's immune system is not highly stressed, according to the theory. Psoriasis also tends to skip a generation or two in a family. There are other possible causes, such as damaged or injured skin and certain drugs and medication, blood pressure medications in particular.

Psoriasis ranges from mild to severe. In some cases, it can be so severe in that it is disabling, although, this is much less common. As well, it is more prominent in people who have arthritis; 10% to 30% of the population of psoriasis sufferers has psoriasis. For the average person who suffers from psoriasis it is a painful annoyance at times and appears as an unnatural blotch on your body.

Unfortunately there is no cure for psoriasis. It is a life-long skin disorder; however, it may go into a kind of "remission" where it will lay dormant for awhile, sometimes even for years. There are certain steps you can take to improve your psoriasis, though, and if the right steps are taken it will generally fade away after a few months or so. Doctors recommend that people expose their skin to small quantities of sunlight everyday. They also think that applying certain creams to your skin can improve psoriasis. You should ask your doctor what creams he believes would be best for your skin so you can choose the most efficient one, and also how much natural sunlight would be recommend your skin. It is difficult to make sure you receive a small amount of sunlight because how much is too much?

Now for an important announcement! Tinnitus Sonus Complete Review  itself is not a disease, nor a medical condition; it is a symptom of some other underlying problem or condition. So that in order to find effective tinnitus remedies you need to get to know what these conditions are, because these conditions are the causes of tinnitus.Generally speaking the causes of tinnitus are ear problems (e.g. inner ear, middle ear, auditory nerve damage, blocked eustachian tube, otosclerosis, meniere's disease, etc.), health related issues (e.g. stress, anxiety, sinus problems, high blood pressure, allergies, etc.), head / neck trauma (e.g. head blow, whiplash), and noise pollution (hearing damage through loud noises).

Mainstream treatments are usually drug-based medication (e.g. antidepressants, antihistamines, anticonvulsants, cardiovascular and intravenous lidocaine, etc.), and audio devices (e.g. hearing aids, audio maskers, etc.). Other possibilities are biofeedback, counselling, support groups, acupuncture, meditation, self-hypnosis, etc. Surgery is an option but is very rarely used.

Although some tinnitus suffers get some relief from one or more of these treatments, it is reckoned that about 93% do not get any sustainable relief. The reason is that most of these treatments address the symptoms of tinnitus not the underlying problems, i.e. the root cause(s).On the other hand, natural tinnitus remedies and techniques are used to improve the underlying conditions that cause tinnitus. Things like reducing stress and anxiety, lowering blood pressure, improving your immune system, reducing cholesterol, etc. These are achieved through diet, exercise and other techniques.

•Governor Ortom

Benue Governor Samuel Ortom said herdsmen shot at him while he was in his farm located along Makurdi – Naka road in Makurdi, Benue state capital.

Speaking with journalists during an interactive session in Makurdi on Monday, Ortom reiterated his call for arrest and prosecution of Meyitta Allah for instigating violence against farmers in Benue state.

“I went my farm last week and the herdsmen who were coming back to Benue state in their numbers shot at me, ” Ortom stated.
He said it took the intervention of men of Operation Whirl stroke who came to his rescue before the herdsmen took to their heels.

Ortom expressed concerns that herdsmen are allowed to carry sophisticated weapons more than security agencies while farmers are arrested for holding cutlasses in the farm.

According to the Governor, herdsmen are not coming for grazing but for interiors, declaring he was ready to defend the interest of his people.

He said Nigeria is no longer in the 50s and 60s when cows were grazing for free.
“Anti- open grazing prohibition law is still in force and anyone who wants to do business of animal husbandry must embrace ranching,” the Governor declared.

He stated that the ranching law is not against anyone but aimed at protecting farmers and herdsmen.

Three rockets hit US Embassy compound in Baghdad, Iraq- US officials say

Three rockets have hit the US Embassy compound in Baghdad, Iraq,  leaving one person injured, US officials have confirmed.

According to the US State Department the rocket were fired in the Baghdad Green Zone, where US Military outposts and the US Embassy is located.

The US has not put any blame on Iran for the attack and no official statement had come out from Iran or any of it's military proxies.

The US and Iran have been in a stand off since the US withdrew from the Iran Nuclear deal in 2018, that was signed by the US, Iran, E.U, Russia and China.

Early this month, Iranian protesters stormed the US embassy which prompted the US military to kill Iranian military General Qassem Soleimani, leading to an Iran military strike on a US base in Iraq that caused head injuries to some US troops.

Following heightened tensions between both countries, the US called on the Iraqi government to protect it's bases in Iraq even though the Iraqi parliament voted on a resolution to oust the American military from Iraq.
"We call on the Government of Iraq to fulfill its obligations to protect our diplomatic facilities," a State Department spokesperson said on Monday in reaction to the rocket attacks.

"Violent acts against our diplomatic facilities are simply unacceptable. We must ensure the safety of American diplomats, troops and other Americans in Iraq."

Iraq's Prime Minister Abdul Mahdi, the prime minister of Iraq, speaking about the attack said;
''Iraqi forces have been ordered to "deploy, search, and investigate to prevent the recurrence of such attacks, and to arrest those who launched these rockets so that they can be punished."

"The Iraqi government is committed to protecting all diplomatic missions and taking all necessary measures to achieve this."

14-year-old schoolgirl brutally raped, stabbed and burnt to death in South Africa while walking home after being left behind by school bus

14-year-old school pupil Liticha Princess Sbongile Nelson was found dead near Elsburg on the East Rand, South Africa.

Liticha, a grade 9 pupil at Graceland Education Center in Elsburg, Germiston, went missing last  Wednesday and her body was discovered by community members in a bush on Friday.

She had been stabbed and raped before she was burnt to death.

It was understood that she had gone missing on Wednesday after she failed to return home from school. The GED said she was left behind by her school transport and had to walk home.

When Liticha did not come home from school her grandmother panicked and started checking around the neighbourhood. The next morning she reported the teen missing to police but was told to bring a photograph of the child, the education department said in a statement.

The grandmother went to the school and reported the child missing and it was confirmed that she was absent on the Wednesday.
“It is also concerning that the school failed to assist the parent,” the department said.

The grandmother mobilised the community on Friday and, accompanied by dogs, they searched the nearby bush and found the body.
“Sadly, the grandmother had to go back to the Elsburg police station to inform them about the gruesome discovery. We, are informed, Laticia and a group of learners from Dukathole in Germiston, were on Wednesday, January 22 2020, left behind by the departmental scholar transport and unfortunately had to turn back home. It seems Laticia was left behind by her peers while walking back home, apparently after complaining about a heavy school bag, which she was trying to fix. Accordingly, that was the last time she was seen by her peers,” said the department.

Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi visited the Jansen family on Sunday and conveyed his condolences. He assured the family that if the school was in the wrong, he would act decisively.
“It is alleged that the scholar transport started a tendency of departing earlier than scheduled as a result leaving many learners behind, which is a serious concern for us. We will investigate circumstances surrounding this allegation,” Lesufi said.

The GED said its psychosocial team on Monday would visit Graceland Education Center to conduct necessary counselling to the school community and family.

Quote:Man Stabs Girlfriend To Death In Bauchi For Picking Another Man's Call (Graphic)

Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended Solomon Peters, who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Miss Patience Zakari, to death in Bauchi following a disagreement over telephone call.

Police Public Relations Officer in charge of Bauchi Command, DSP Kamal Abubakar, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi that the suspect was arrested on Sunday in a yet to be disclosed location.

“The Bauchi state police command, after swinging into action following the killing of Miss Patience Zakari, has apprehended the suspect, whose name is Solomon Peters.

“He is now in our custody and currently undergoing interrogations by our officers.

“He will be thoroughly investigated and charged to court for culpable homicide,” said the PPRO

Tragedy struck in Bauchi on Friday when a jealous man, simply identified as ‘Solomon’ stabbed his girlfriend, Patience Zakkari, to death for picking a phone call from another man.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent reports that the incident occurred around 1.30 am in the house of the deceased located at gwallameji area of Bauchi metropolis.

Narrating to NAN how it happened, a source who pleaded anonymity recounted how the deceased narrated the incident to him before she gave up the ghost.

He explained that the deceased and her boyfriend (Solomon) who were popularly known to be in a romantic relationship by most people in the area, had a heated argument when the deceased received a phone call from a male friend in the middle of the night.

“She narrated to me before she died that everything happened at about 1:30 am on Friday morning.

“She said she received a phone call from just an ordinary male friend and her boyfriend (Solomon) got jealous, started harassing her verbally, and that as she was trying to explain to him, he pounced on her and started hitting her.

“She took a bottle, hit him on the head in self defence because the beating was too much for her, and the man picked up a knife in response and stabbed her at the back.

“She said she lost a lot of blood before she was rushed to a clinic in the morning where she was treated and brought back home in the evening, when she narrated the incident to me.

“Unfortunately, when I left the place, I heard that the wound degenerated and she was rushed to a hospital where she eventually gave up,” narrated the source.

Another source, Mercy Cirfat, told NAN that Solomon, who was living two blocks away from his girlfriend’s, had taken to his heels after carrying out the heinous act, and is now at large.

She said that the deceased was a National Diploma (ND) graduate from the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.

DSP Kamal Abubakar, the state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident to NAN, adding that the owner of the clinic where she died, had been arrested.

He also assured that the command was on the trail of the culprit and would soon be apprehended to face the wrath of the law.

“I can confirm to you that the incident is true; we got the information from a good samaritan that this was what happened in Gwallameji.

“When the incident happened, without informing the police, her friends took her to a clinic for treatment because the boyfriend stabbed her twice.

“However, the clinic also treated her without informing the police and discharged her the same day.

“When the thing became worse, they took her back to the clinic where she was put on a drip and eventually gave up.

“We have arrested the owner of the clinic and the staff that treated her because they did not inform the police.

“We have swung into action and the case is under investigation; we are on the trail of the suspect and anybody involved; they will all be brought to justice,” said the PPRO. (NAN)

U.S. Embassy In Baghdad Attacked; Iraqi Security Forces Kill Protester
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-27-2020, 10:37 AM - Replies (1)

Quote:The US embassy in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone came under attack from rocket fire on Sunday evening.

Five rockets crashed into a riverbank near the embassy in the Iraqi capital leaving one person injured. AFP news agency citing a security source said three of the rockets "directly hit the US embassy". One slammed into a cafeteria at dinner time, it added.

It was the third such attack on the US embassy this month but was the first time the complex had been directly hit. It was not immediately clear who was responsible.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi swiftly condemned the attack in a statement, calling it an "aggression" that could "drag Iraq into becoming a war zone".

Iraqi security forces shot at anti-government protesters in Baghdad on Sunday, killing at least one person, and unidentified men set fire to sit-in tents in a southern Iraqi city, police and medics said, as months-long civil unrest escalated.

Anti-government protests erupted in Baghdad on Oct. 1 and quickly turned violent. Security forces and unidentified gunmen have shot protesters dead. Nearly 500 people have been killed in the unrest. Aleast 12 demonstrators have been killed since Saturday, the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights said, with three in Nasiriya, and nine in Baghdad province.

The protests are an unprecedented leaderless challenge to Iraq’s Shi’ite Muslim-dominated and largely Iran-backed ruling elite, which emerged after a U.S.-led invasion toppled Sunni dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Demonstrators are demanding that all parties and politicians be removed, free and fair elections be held and corruption rooted out. The government has responded with violence and piecemeal reform. The international community has condemned the violence but not intervened to stop it.

In Baghdad, one protester was killed, police sources and medics said, and more than 100 others hurt across the country after the security forces tried to clear protest camps.

At least 75 of those hurt were in the southern city of Nassariya. A Reuters witness said protesters set fire to two security vehicles and hundreds of other demonstrators controlled key bridges in the city. Later, unidentified men set fire to tents that are part of a months-long sit-in in the city centre.

Protests have flared in the last two days after populist cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, many of whose supporters had participated, said he would no longer be involved in anti-government demonstrations.

Sadr opposes all foreign interference in Iraq but has aligned himself more closely in recent months with Iran and the Tehran-backed parties that dominate state institutions in Baghdad.

Some demonstrators have accused the populist cleric of treachery of their cause.

Sadr has organised separate anti-American demonstrations aimed at pressuring U.S. troops to leave Iraq, moves that critics say aim to eclipse the anti-establishment movement which has taken aim at all politicians including Sadr.

The increase in unrest comes after Washington killed Iranian Major-General Qassem Soleimani, the mastermind of Iran’s control over Iraq, and an Iraqi paramilitary chief in a drone strike in Baghdad on Jan. 3.

Iran responded with ballistic missile attacks on two Iraqi military bases, but the killing has revived tensions in Iraqi politics and delayed the formation of a new government.

Five Katyusha rockets hit Baghdad’s Green Zone, which houses government buildings and foreign embassies, late on Sunday, a military statement said. It did not report casualties.

‘INTERNAL STRIFE’
Security sources told Reuters that at least one rocket landed inside the U.S. embassy compound and wounded three people. If confirmed, it would be the first time in years that such attacks on the Green Zone, which are regular, have actually hurt staff there.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi condemned the attack in a statement from his office, and said that the continuation of such acts could “drag Iraq into becoming a battlefield.”

Sadr had called for demonstrations against the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and other cities on Sunday but cancelled them, with his office giving “avoiding internal strife” as the reason.

Sadr’s supporters had bolstered anti-government protests before the assassination of Soleimani but have since been directed by their leader to focus their anger against America. They began withdrawing from anti-government sit-in camps on Saturday.

“We protest because we have a cause. I don’t think Moqtada Sadr or any other politician will change our mind,” said a protester in Baghdad who declined to give his name.

“I don’t go to protests often but I came out today because of what they did yesterday. I want to express my solidarity with my brothers in Tahrir,” said Hussain Ali, a student, referring to demonstrations in Tahrir Square, the main area of protests in the capital.

In Baghdad, protesters were coughing and washing their faces and eyes to rid themselves of the effects of tear gas while medical workers provided first aid, as the site was inaccessible to ambulances, a Reuters reporter said.

Tuk tuks evacuated wounded protesters in clouds of tear gas and black smoke from burning tyres.

Earlier on Sunday, hundreds of university students had gathered in Tahrir Square, the main protest camp, chanting slogans against the United States and Iran.

Protests also continued in the cities of Kerbala, Najaf and Diwaniya, defying attempts by security forces to end their months-long sit-in, police sources and Reuters witnesses said.

An unidentified lady has been accused of leading an attack in which she and her friends stripped and assaulted another lady for attempting to sleep with her boyfriend.

While some Twitter users alleged that the ladies in the video are students of Ambrose Ali University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, some debunked the claim, stating the ladies are residents of Warri in Delta State.

Twitter user @trendydjtimic who shared the video wrote;

Quote:AAU school Mother beats and strip a school daughter's naked for suspecting her of sleeping with her boyfriend. My twitter family please let's RT this until something is been done urgently. So if u're seeing this video in your timeline please RT
It was said that the boyfriend of the school mother asked the girl to come meet him in the village, that he would give her 100k as she arrives. When she got there. The school mother and her friends got a news and gathered themselves towards her location and she was caught.

However another Twitter user @NwaezeGodson countered the claim, revealing that the girls live in Warri. He wrote;

In the viral video, a lady was heard saying that the assaulted lady was deceived to the location with N100k. Another lady who supposedly led the attack was also heard saying "you wan spoil my relationship for me" (you want to "spoil" my relationship) in the video.

2020 UTME: JAMB Registers 700,000 Candidates In 2 Weeks
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-27-2020, 10:21 AM - No Replies

Quote:The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says 700,000 candidates have so far been registered for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) nationwide in two weeks.

The Board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made this known in an interview with Akelicious in Lagos on Sunday night.

According to him, the exercise has been hitch-free, with impressive turnout from the first day at the various accredited Computer Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide.

“I will like to say we have actually found this exercise very interesting as we have already registered a total of 700, 000 prospective candidates for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in just 14 days.

“We have 21 days left to go for this registration exercise and we wish to call on all candidates, the UTME and Direct Entry, to seize the opportunity and register, as there will be no extension.

READ Photos: Governor Ihedioha Awards Scholarships To The Best 2 WAEC Students In Imo
Benjamin noted that the Board had blacklisted 41 centres out of the 692 centres used, over issues such as registration cyber fraud, extortion and technical deficiency.

He warned parents not to also give in to any form of extortion.

“It has come to the knowledge of the Board that some elite schools are using the name of the Board to extort huge sum of money from parents under the guise that the Board has ordered such payments.

“The Board wishes to make it clear that unlike the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the National Examinations Council (NECO) and others, the UTME and the Direct Entry (DE) registration and examination exercises are not school-based.

“As such, schools have no role whatsoever in the Board’s operational processes.

“This is because these exercises require only the participation and engagement of individual candidates.

“Consequently, schools that are using the name of the Board to swindle parents of large sum of money for the purpose of registration or other services, are hereby warned to desist forthwith,” he said.

READ Unilag sets Aug.1 to Aug. 21 for 2019 Post UTME screening
According to him, these affected schools may wish to employ other means to extort gullible parents but certainly such practice should not be at the expense of the Board or its processes.

Benjamin added that the information became necessary following discovery of series of data mutilation, owing to this unwholesome group processing of registration, among others.

“Parents are to note that the cost of the UTME forms remains N3,500 for the ePINs and N500 for the reading text and nothing more.

“Parents are to ensure that their children do this individually and not as a group. In addition, the CBT centres where the candidates register have been directed not to charge anything above N700 as their service charge,’’ Benjamin said.

On the Board’s advice on vending, Benjamin said it was important for vendors and candidates to know that certain measures had been taken by the Board to define the process of vending ePINs.

He said this was to serve as guide against candidates exposing their personal data to fraudsters.

Benjamin urged candidates to note that any personal data divulged to any third-party, be it a vendor or agent could expose them to the risk of losing their UTME registration, thereby jeopardising their future aspiration.

READ Senator Ekwunife raises petition on the refusal of Jamb to release the result of Akachukwu Onyiuke, a constituent of Anambra Central
“In view of the above, the Board wishes to reiterate that pin vending should be done directly to individual candidates and should be done online through the pin vending platform and not offline.

“There should be no bulk purchase of pins by candidates or secondary schools as is being done by some elite schools. All online vending should be done directly to each candidate on the presentation of his or her profile code.

“After vending the pin, the relevant pin should be sent to each candidate through his or her phone, hence there is no need to write the pin by hand, by any vendor or agent.

“Any vendor/agent who collects a prepared list with candidates’ names, profile codes and other vital details for the purpose of vending pins will be sanctioned.

“Similarly, any vendor collecting such prepared lists is hereby advised to desist with immediate effect as this action has severe consequences on the candidates whose data are being exposed indiscriminately,” he warned.

President Muhammadu Buhari has opened up on his relationship with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in an interview where he also replied Retired Nigerian General, Theophilus Danjuma over his comment on what has been happening in the country.

Danjuma had said if he says what he knows about the goings on in the government, Nigerians would lose sleep.

Speaking to 'The Interview' Team, Buhari stated that his relationship with Osinbajo is "perfect". When asked to rate his relationship with his deputy on a scale of one to ten, he replied “Perfect. Or has he complained to you?”

On if he was concerned about the vote of low confidence expressed by Mr Danjuma, Buhari stated that the retired general's opinion about him is not more important than that of millions that voted for him. The Nigerian leader insisted that his re-election was a vindication of his voters’ confidence and support for him and his government’s policies.

Buhari said;

Quote:“And what is the vote of confidence of Nigerians in me, as expressed in the polls last year? That is what matters more, not the opinion of one man.”

Ihedioha returns to Supreme Court, seeks review of ouster verdict
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:• Ruling is miscarriage of justice, say lawyers
• How apex court failed in votes computation

The last may not have been heard about the contest for the Imo State governorship seat as Emeka Ihedioha returns to the Supreme Court today to seek a review of the judgment that removed him from office.

The court had on January 14, 2020 sacked Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the ground that he did not score the lawful majority votes in the March 9, 2019 governorship election. In his place, the apex court, after adding the cancelled results of the 388 polling units to the votes scored by Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ordered that he be immediately sworn in as the duly elected governor.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court held that Ihedioha was not duly elected and that “his election was void and illegal.”

The court consequently set aside the judgment of the Imo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and that of the Court of Appeal, both of which had refused to recognise the votes from the 388 polling units and to accept that the results were unlawfully excluded in the general collation.

The Guardian obtained a certified-true-copy of the record of the appeal filed at the Supreme Court by Uzodinma and APC, issued by Nwana Ejike, Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Owerri, from an earlier record compiled by Ibrahim Garba, Secretary of the Imo State Election Petition Tribunal, which shows that there were mathematical and factual inconsistencies which the apex court ignored.

In the records tendered at the tribunal, Uzodinma, from pages 9 to 27 of his petition, drew a table of votes allocation which he claimed were the figures obtained from the duplicate copies of Forms EC8A handed over to his party agents at the 388 polling units, the results of which were excluded in the overall result of the election.

From the table he compiled from the 388 polling units, there were 252,452 registered voters, out of which 213,695 voted for APC, and 1,903 voted for Ihedioha.

But the table does not indicate either the total number of accredited voters or the number of invalid votes, if any, and the votes allocated to the remaining 68 candidates that contested the election, aside from Uzodinma and Ihedioha.

Also, the duplicate Forms EC8A tendered by the PW54, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Rabiu Hussein, showed that there were no fewer than six polling units where more votes were recorded above the registered number of voters.

For instance, on figure number 69 which shows votes cast at Eziama/Okpala (Umualum Village Square, Eziama), the total number of registered voters was 492, whereas the table shows that the APC scored 819 votes and PDP scored 7 votes, meaning that 334 more votes than the registered voters were recorded, apart from the votes polled by the other candidates at the election that were not shown on the table.

Similarly, on page 22 of the petition referencing polling unit 282, the number of registered voters was put at 591, whereas the tabulation shows that APC polled 586 votes and PDP nine votes, indicating a total of four votes higher than the registered number of voters. This, again, excluded the votes scored by the other candidates.

On the same page 22 of the record, at the polling unit 285 (Obudi/Aro, Central Assembly Square, Unusable 11) with 449 registered voters, APC was credited with 780 votes and PDP with four votes, leaving a total of 335 votes higher than the actual number of registered voters.

Figures obtained from page 79 of the record of appeal under item 384 show that APC scored 526 votes, while PDP was credited with two votes, and the total votes cast was put at 526, indicating two votes higher than the total number registered voters in the area.

But in its judgment, the Supreme Court said that the votes from the disputed 388 polling units were wrongly excluded from the votes of Uzodinma.

By relying on the tabulation made by Uzodinma, the Supreme Court arrived at a figure of 950,952 votes, which is more than the 823,743 votes cast at the election, thereby affirming 127,209 excess votes.

Criticism has continued to trail the Supreme Court judgment since it was delivered, with protest rallies held in Imo and other states in the south east.

A coalition of civil society organisations yesterday called on the Supreme Court to view the judgment.

The group held that going through the briefs of argument among the parties, it was obvious that as citizens, “the judgment read by the Supreme Court did not accord with common sense and did not seem to meet the ends of justice.”

The spokesman of the coalition of over 10 groups and Executive Director, Abuja Discussion Group, Dr. Manzo Abubakar, chronicled several alleged anomalies in the judgment and asked the apex court to rescind itself even if it means invoking the ‘judicial doctrine of necessity.’

According to Abubakar, it is only by so doing that the Supreme Court can restore justice, peace, hope and faith in the nation’s democracy and regain the confidence of the people in the judiciary.

“The confidence of Nigerians in the judiciary is at the lowest and we believe that the Supreme Court can help to restore it and save future elections. The judgment will go down in infamy and may make Nigeria a laughing stock in the comity of nations if not reviewed.”

He added that Section 176 (2b) of the constitution makes it clear that to be declared as governor, a candidate must not only score a majority of total votes cast but also 1/4 of the votes in 2/3 of the local governments of the state.

“It is axiomatic that nowhere in the petition or evidence did the petitioner, (Uzodinma) claim that he met the constitutional requirement of spread to be declared the winner”, the group said.

The groups maintained that with the judgment of January 14, the apex court had denied the Imo people the opportunity to chose their leaders.

While sympathising with their lordships over their heavy workload and short period of time within which to read briefs and give judgment, the coalition said such constraints would have led to the ‘faulty’ judgment.

“To err is human. It would be practically impossible for any human to have read briefs and record of proceedings exceeding 5000 pages in the matter within two hours after hearing, when he also had pressure of time to deliver judgment in the remaining pending governorship appeals. No doubt, this accounted for the mistakes made by the apex court.

“The Supreme Court is supreme and can creatively reinvent its rules to do justice. It is necessary to do so now more than ever to save the Nigerian democracy, constitutionalism and retrieve the judicial and justice system from its present opprobrium,” the groups said.

An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Godwin Emagun, is of the view that the addition by the Supreme Court to Uzodinma’s votes made the total number of votes to exceed the total number of accredited voters in violation of Section 53 of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended), particularly Section 8 (b) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Guidelines for the 2019 election.

“The Supreme Court cannot accept results without certification. This violates S. 89 (e) and (f ) and 90 (c ) of the Evidence Act 2011 which states that all public documents must be certified before it can be tendered in evidence.”

Emagun said the results from the disputed 388 polling units were neither certified by INEC, who are the issuers of the document, nor the police in whose custody they claimed the documents emanated.

Otome Adamidenyo, another lawyer based in Warri, Delta State and Country Director, Citizens Rights Initiative, said the verdict fell short of the basic legal indices for measuring a fair and unbiased judgment.

He said to have allowed a police officer to tender documents which he was not their author and which served as the foundation upon which the very case stood defeated the fundamental principles of admissibility of documents.

The Head, Legal Unit of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Princewill Akpakpan, said: “Given the emerging facts arising from the Supreme Court judgment in the gubernatorial election in Imo State, the CLO is of the view that the request for the review of the case is necessary”.

He noted that this would enable the court to look at all the facts to determine whether there were facts that were not at its disposal or the decision was reached per incuriam.

Akpakpan maintained that the review would also make the aggrieved parties and the general public to see that justice has been done even if the court might still reach the same conclusion in the case.

“The review, though I am not sure of the particular rule the PDP may be coming under, would give the opportunity for the court to restore what the public sees as ‘a lost confidence in the case’,” he said.

Already, Ihedioha and his legal team have approached the Supreme
Court seeking a review of the judgment.

Isaac and I had to dash back to the village in Anambra state to witness the most beautiful wedding of this century! Aunt Nwatoka had never been married all her life. She's Isaac's aunt from his father's side and one of the best aunt in-law you can wish for. She took excellent care of my husband's grandma until she passed in her 90's. She was always there for the whole family each time we came home for Christmas or ... I was personally surprised but pleasantly so when a handsome Enugukwu man Mr. Okeke decided to take her hand in marriage. Aunt Nwatoka as she's fondly called was literarily swept off her feet????. And just yesterday he wedded her at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Enugukwu, Anambra State. Mr. Okeke is a Lagos businessman while his new bride works in Anambra. Having found happiness, the groom who lost his first wife many years ago is giving himself another chance ?
And who would have thought that our dear Aunt Augustina Nwatoka at her age will ever be married! God is awesome. God is merciful. He never gives up on His children so, be positive as this year will not pass you by IJN

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY 27TH JANUARY.

THE CHURCH HAS AWAKENED

The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit (John 3:8).

There’s a message that’s reverberating throughout the world; it’s the prophetic word that was given many years ago about the “sleeping giant.” The world has heard that there’s a “sleeping giant” somewhere in the world, and every nation has been on the alert.

They’ve discussed this at the highest levels; they’ve tried everything to assess various nations to ascertain who this giant is, but no nation fits the descriptions.

Every time something happens in any nation, the world gets in a frenzy, because they were told that the “sleeping giant” will arise from the distress of others. So, they wonder what kind of distress would awaken this “sleeping giant.” It’s a message with a strong signal; and intelligence officials at the highest levels around the world are alert and waiting for the emergence of this giant.

But you see, this ‘sleeping giant’ isn’t one of the countries in the United Nations, no; it’s the Church of Jesus Christ! Glory to God! Truly, for many years, it seemed the Church was sleeping. But it’s not so anymore; the Church has awakened. The world may not know it, but they’ll find out soon.

Our theme scripture says, “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth….” The Church is a mystery, and we’re unstoppable! The Church is the greatest nation on earth, with the power and glory to tame this world.

This isn’t something to try to figure out with your brain; you can only relate with this truth with your spirit. When you look at the things happening in, with, and through the Church in different nations of the world today, you’d know that indeed, the Church is taking over, and the gates of hell can’t prevail. Glory to God!

CONFESSION

The Church is marching on, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Christians around the world are encouraged and fortified to stand strong and tall for the message of the Gospel, against every adversity and adversary, establishing the kingdom of heaven in all the nations of the world, to the glory of God, the Father! Hallelujah!

#TALKINGSESSION

27TH JANUARY.

KINDLY DAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Thanks be unto God who has blessed me with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ! I have a life of glory and success, and I win every day. My spiritual eyes are enlightened to recognize and apprehend the great riches of God’s glorious inheritance in me.

I am free to be all that the Father has destined me to be. The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. I’ve escaped the corruption, the depravity and the decadence in the world through lust. I am perfected in Christ.

I am fully equipped and fortified with the whole armour of God, strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

My faith is a weapon of defence against the fiery darts of the wicked, and an instrument of victory over and against the adversities and adversary.

I am eternally triumphant in Christ; for the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in me, and has given life, vitality, and vigour to my physical body.

I am nourished, refreshed, and rejuvenated every day by the Holy Spirit, who perambulates in me to keep me in health, righteousness, and in the glory of God. Hallelujah!

If you have been wondering why you are the Hair Revital X Review  one among your friends and colleagues who is balding then this is because MPB is linked to your genes. If anybody in your family had male pattern baldness then most probably this has been passed down on you. Those who inherit this bad gene from their maternal or parental family are exposed to DHT and male pattern baldness issues.Although there are medications such as Minoxidil and Finasteride available to treat male pattern baldness problems, these drugs may not suit all individuals. Recent studies and complaints reported by people taking these drugs have shown that these medications may cause unwanted side effects such as decrease in libido.

Although hair transplant may seem to be an easy solution to reverse hair loss, it is not a simple and easy procedure. Besides being a very expensive treatment, it requires several sessions to get the desired effect, and not all individuals are the right candidate for undergoing hair transplant surgery.

I have been trying to grow out my hair for years. It seems that sometimes my it has grown, but then when it gets dry the growth goes into reverse. I have tried deep conditioning to restore the moisture with Wen products but it did not do anything but leave my it more dry and weak. I wanted to share my story of growth for everyone who wants there hair to look beautiful and to grow without spending a lot of money. I know how to make it grow because my hair would not grow.

To prevent weight gain, avoid sweetened soft  Gaias Protocol Review drinks and fruit juices in favor of water or artificially sweetened drinks. Although many women swear by artificial sweeteners, scientists have long debated whether they actually help regulate body weight. Researchers conducted a study that suggests that people can lose or maintain weight simply by incorporating artificial sweeteners, such as aspartame (found in NutraSweet) and saccharin into their diet.

Forty-one overweight people, mostly women, with similar eating and exercise habits were divided into two groups. They consumed comparable amounts of either sugar-sweetened or artificially sweetened foods, drinks, or supplements daily. After ten weeks, body weight increased in the sugar group (by 3.5 pounds) and decreased in the artificially-sweetener group (by 2.2 pounds). Also, blood pressure went up in the sugar group and went down in the sweetener group.

The study found that the sugar group ate more calories and carbohydrates compared with the artificial sweetener group, but the groups' intake of fat and protein did not substantially differ. Beverages were by far the largest source of sugar intake). Is Whole House Water Filter necessary? For runners experiencing mild or severe overpronation, Clear Nails Plus Review  the importance of using motion control shoes could not be overemphasized. This type of footwear provides the firm control your feet need so they will not roll inwards too far when every time they hit the ground. This condition can explain the many injuries such as plantar fasciitis, bunion, patella-femoral pain syndrome, Achilles tendonitis and the many others usually related to over-use, that those suffering from this condition are prone to.

The simple explanation is that because of the exaggerated internal rotation of the thigh, leg and knee when you are walking or running, the inner surface of your foot handles the extra stress. Overtime, the parts of your body that contributes to your gait cycle especially the muscles, ligaments and tendons of your lower leg suffer the blow.Motion control shoes are not the best choice for overpronators with knee and hip injuries. The minimalistic running shoes are gaining popularity for this type of condition. This "barefoot" style footwear, popularized by Nike, is designed with the least support because they function through the idea of allowing your body parts to work coordinately and gain strength.

Custom made running shoes can be made with orthotics for pronators. These are insoles that you can have a Podiatrist fit for you but there are also pre-molded versions that you can directly put in your cart when shopping.Having an ingrown toenail is not an occasion to celebrate, yet knowing one can treat ingrown it naturally is a joyous occasion. By applying home remedies, you can save time and money from having to visit your health care provider. So first, you may wish to give it a go to see if you can solve the problem yourself, not withstanding, if the problem persists, professional medical advice should be sought.

Governor Umahi is an APC mole – Edo PDP writes NWC as it condemns endorsement of APC's Governor Obaseki

Edo State's Chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the endorsement of Governor Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by Governor David Umahi after Obaseki's wife led members of the Southern Nigeria Governors Wives’ Forum for a courtesy visit to the government house in Abakiliki.

During the meeting, Umahi who is a PDP Governor stated that his Edo State colleague who has been at loggerheads with his predecessor and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Adams Oshiomhole, cannot be removed by any man because of his good works.

The Ebonyi state governor said;

Quote:“Power belongs to God and no matter what anybody will do, it is God that has the final say. I can assure you madam (Betsy), you know as an apostle of the Most High God, I also prophesy.
“And because of the good work your husband is doing for the people of Edo State, no man can unseat him.
“I made this statement so that the glory of God will become larger. It happened here in Ebonyi. I have a testimony of what God can do.”

However reacting to endorsement of Obaseki by Governor Umahi, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Chief Dan Orbih described the Ebonyi state Governor as a mole working for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Orbih stated that Umahi is among the “saboteurs within” who are working tirelessly to ensure that the PDP loses in Edo State's Governorship election scheduled to hold this year.

His letter to PDP's National Working Committee reads in full;

Quote:H.E. Chief Uche Secondus
The National Chairman,
People’s Democratic Party,PDP.
Wadata Plaza
Abuja
Your Excellency,
Edo 2020 Election Under Threat. Saboteurs Within!
As you are aware, Edo State is holding its governorship election later in the year. Edo PDP has been in opposition in the state since 2008 and from the opinion polls we conducted, this year, 2020, represents our brightest chance of winning the state back.
The party in government is engrossed in a fierce battle of supremacy between the governor, Governor Obaseki and his national chairman Adams Oshiomhole. Their “fight” has seriously affected governance to the extent that even the state house of assembly only has 10 out of 24 members seating even though they won 24/24 seats in the last elections. Not fewer than 6 council chairmen have been sacked as well as at least 4 members of state executive council because of their “questionable loyalty”!
They have polarized their party beyond recognition. There is a gale of suspension going on in their party as the National Chairman, State chairman and even the Governor, Deputy Governor and the Secretary to the State Government have all been suspended by the rival factions in their party. Their party is therefore now immersed in court cases across the federation.
Your Excellency, this background was necessary so that you understand the pains we are going through in Edo when we hear leaders, members of the board of trustees and even some Governors uncharitable endorsement of APC embattled Governor Godwin Obaseki. The most recent of this is Governor David Umahi open endorsement of Godwin Obaseki for re-election.
This practice you will agree with us is condemnable and smacks of indiscipline and ingratitude. It defeats the spirit of camaraderie that is supposed to exist within a political party. It is a morale-damper and it’s unacceptable.
Your excellency, please use your office to call these leaders to order so that this open treachery doesn’t become a norm in our great party.
We thank you for the support and leadership you have always provided.
Be assured of our best wishes.
Chief Dan Osi Orbih
Chairman
PDP EDO STATE.

2 Mentally Challenged Lovers In Fierce Public Fight Over Sex
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Quote:The popular saying that there is nothing wrong with the private parts of the mentally challenged people may be real after all following what played out between a man and woman, who are mentally challenged in Ikotun area of Lagos on Thursday.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the duo engaged in public fight over sex and in the process injured themselves. The woman ran to the Ikotun Police Station for protection and the man followed her there.
Both were bleeding on their faces which drew the attention of our reporter, who wanted to find out what happened and it was shocking.

The man, later identified as Emmanuel, was angry that the woman, Tonia, who he had all along been having sex with suddenly changed her mind and claimed that she was no longer interested in making love with him. That decision did not go down well with Emmanuel, who insisted that since they have started, they must continue but Tonia refused and it turned into a public fight.

When the fight between them became tough at the BRT park inside the Local Government, Tonia ran away and Emmanuel pursued her until she ended up at the Police Station.
However, the Police allowed Tonia to enter into the Station while Emmanuel was not allowed to enter, which temporarily ended the fight.
Both were heard grumbling; Tonia was saying ‘I will not do again’ while Emmanuel was saying ‘We must continue’ which threw both the Police officers and those present at the Station into serious laughter.

Some of those present at station were seen discussing and expressing their surprise, saying, ‘so even mentally challenged people still engage in love making’.

User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 01-26-2020, 09:44 PM - No Replies

Quote:A lady, Miss Victory Amaize, has been arrested and detained by the Police operatives at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, after she reportedly engaged a man, Danjuma Yahaya Alli, in marathon sex in a popular hotel and he eventually died on top of her.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the popular Grand Ibro Hotel, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, FCT, where the romp took place.

The lady, Victory, was said to be facing murder charge based on Police suspicion that she might have engaged the deceased, Danjuma Yahaya Alli, in marathon sex that eventually caused his death.

The alleged tragedy was exposed after the Chief Security Officer of the hotel, Onyido Sule, went to the Police at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, on 22nd January, 2020, reported that a lady, Victory Amaize, from Life Camp in Abuja, screamed from her hotel room to the management over what happened.

The management rushed to the room and found Danjuma Yahaya Alli gasping for breath on the bed. He was rushed to the hospital where the doctors confirmed him dead.

During interrogation, the suspect, Victory, told the Police that while they were having sex in Room 123, the late Alli got chocked up and later passed out in the process.

The corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy test, the lady was detained while investigation was still ongoing on the matter.

It was gathered that Victory may be charged for murder if doctors reports find her culpable for engaging Alli in long sex that eventually caused his death. She may spend several years in prison custody if she is tried and found guilty before the Court for the alleged offence.

Quote:Twin suicide bombers linked to the Boko Haram sect attacked a mosque in Gwoza, Borno state, on Sunday, killing a 12-year-old child and leaving many people injured.

A security source, who disclosed this to TheCable, said the suicide bombers forced their way into the mosque while prayer was ongoing.

The source said before some persons in the neighbourhood raised the alarm, the attackers had already gained entry into the mosque.

The incident happened around Guduf Nagadiyo at Bulabaulin in Gwoza.

Soldiers from 192 battalion of the Nigerian Army later cordoned off the mosque.

A resident said the suicide bombers might have infiltrated the town during a wedding which held at the palace of the emir of Gwoza on Saturday.

FG Orders The Recruitment Of Constables For Community Policing

Quote:IG asks police commissioners, traditional rulers, others to form screening committees
South-West governors to meet again over law backing Amotekun
Our members can’t take up constable jobs –Akintoye

Attempt to stop regional security outfit’ll tear Nigeria apart -Ex-Gov Ezeife

The Federal Government has directed the police hierarchy to commence the recruitment of special constables nationwide preparatory to the implementation of its community policing policy.

The directive on community policing is coming as the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Operation Amotekun, an initiative of the six South-West governors, is gaining momentum.

The governors had set up Amotekun to complement the efforts of the police in tackling insecurity in the region. The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who reportedly described it as “illegal” has since said he was misquoted.

The opposition to the takeoff of the security outfit appears to have been cleared after the South-West governors met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and Malami in Abuja on Thursday.

To begin the recruitment of constables, Adamu has directed state police commands to set up screening committees.

In a wireless message obtained by Sunday PUNCH, the IG ordered all state Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police and Divisional Police Officers to liaise with traditional rulers and community leaders in their domains to screen volunteers who would be engaged after passing the screening tests.

One of our correspondents, in an exclusive report in May 2019, revealed the decision of the police to engage about 40,000 special constables to complement the conventional police.

At least, 50 volunteers will be recruited from each of the 774 local government areas in the country. The recruitment earlier scheduled for August last year failed to take place.

The police wireless message with reference DTO:231704/01/2020, announcing the commencement of the recruitment, was copied to Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, departments and formations.

It read, “INGENPOL (IG) directs that you be informed that (the) Federal Government has given approval for recruitment of special constables as a step forward to enhancing (the) community policing policy nationwide.

“INGENPOL further directs all commands’ CPs, ACPs and DPOs in your respective commands to liaise with traditional rulers and community leaders in your respective areas to form screening committees that will screen volunteers who must be of good character and who will eventually be recruited as special constables.”

The message added, “All those to be recommended must be resident in their respective communities and must also be between the ages of 21 and 50 with (the) willingness to serve the community.”

The IG told the CPs, ACPs and DPOs to study the Police Act 49 and 50 for proper guidance while urging them to provide updates on his directives.

One of our correspondents had reported that pastors, Imams, teachers, lawyers, journalists and youths would be considered for the volunteer job.

But the special constables, who would not be armed, are expected to handle charge room and administrative duties, crowd control, accident scene duties, alternative dispute resolution and other less sensitive and less risky functions.

They will dress in police uniform but with a different force numbers to distinguish them from the regular cops.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, said the candidates for the constabulary must be physically fit and gainfully employed.

Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, on Friday said the Progressives Governors’ Forum had decided to back community policing.

Lalong, who is the co-chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum Governance Programme Steering Committee after their meeting in Abuja, said they also met to approve the proposed 2020 work plan, programme of activities and design policies for the implementation for good governance in states controlled by the All Progressives Congress.

He stated, “Here, we are not talking about Amotekun, we are talking about general insecurity. On the general term, what we did after a presentation from the security agencies is all of us appear to be talking about community policing.”

Middle Belt opposes govs on community policing

But the Middle Belt Forum opposed the plans by the governors to implement community policing, stating that a regional security outfit like Amotekun would be more effective in curbing insecurity in the Middle Belt.

The forum asked Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Darius Ishaku (Taraba), Lalong (Plateau), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) to evolve new measures to end the ongoing bloodshed in their states.

The MBF National President, Dr Bitrus Pogu, in a statement on Saturday, said he expected the state executives to invest more efforts in addressing the bloodshed and massive destruction by terrorists on the middle belt.

It said, “Considering the horrifying activities that have drawn global attention, the forum calls on the governors to work towards the creation of a security network similar to Operation Amotekun to obliterate all forms of insecurity in defenceless communities.

“We believe that a security outfit like Operation Amotekun will serve our communities better than the proposed community policing which is similar to the work currently being done by informants in providing intelligence to the police.”

Pogu called on the governors to be committed to the protection of lives and properties.

He advised the state governments to collaborate with the relevant agencies of the Federal Government to end the security challenges facing the Middle Belt.

Pogu also told the governors to let critical stakeholders to be part of their policy implementation in their states.

The MBF asked the states to embark on a massive infrastructure development to lay the foundation for industrialisation to make the economy of the region viable.

Meanwhile, Mba said the police were putting final touches to the implementation of the community policing policy, adding that they were in the process of setting up the screening committees.

Ibrahim Hadejia: N128 Billion 2020 NASS Budget Shrouded In Secrecy
User Avatar Forum: News

Quote:Deji Elumoye in Abuja

A member of the National Assembly, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, has declared that the N128 billion voted for the National Assembly in the 2020 Appropriation Act is covered in secrecy.

Hadejia, who is Vice Chairman of Senate Committee on Public Accounts, said at the weekend in Abuja that he did not have the breakdown of the N128 billion voted for the Assembly.

Answering reporters’ questions on the budget, the senator stated, “The details of the N128 billion budgeted for the National Assembly in 2020 are never there. I don’ know anything about the breakdown, I cannot give you details about budget which I am not privy to and I was not part of those who put it together.”

According to him, the Appropriation Committee that put the budget estimates together for approval will be in a better position to speak on it.

“You need to forward your question to the appropriate quarters. You can meet the appropriation committee because they know what goes into where in the 2020 federal budget,” he told reporters.

Hadejia, however, stated that details of the other aspects of the N10.59 trillion budget were made public except the vote of the National Assembly.

He said, “I am not aware that the details of the 2020 budget are not given. Was it not the details that gave birth to the N37billion earmarked for the renovation of the National Assembly by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) this year? So, if the details were not there, how would people have known this?”

Also speaking on the non-availability of the details of National Assembly budget, senate spokesman, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, explained that the Clerk of the National Assembly was in the best position to give the breakdown.

Akwashiki stated, “The Clerk to the National Assembly is supposed to be in charge of that. Being the accounting officer of the National Assembly, he is in the best position to give the details. The disbursement of funds for the capital component of the budget is the duty of the National Assembly bureaucracy.

“We don’t execute capital projects as senators, we only collect our salaries and allowances. We don’t award contracts, neither do we determine the contractors that would get the jobs. The National Assembly budget is a public document and since the Senate President has promised to make the budget transparent, the Clerk should be in the best position to speak on the issue.”

Stakeholders chart path to disburse $200m cabotage fund for ship owners

Stakeholders in the maritime industry converged on Lagos, yesterday, to determine the modalities for disbursing the $200 million Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF), to local ship owners.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, told journalists after the meeting that stakeholders have agreed to set up a committee that will draft the guidelines for disbursing the fund, after 15 years of delay.
The CVFF scheme was created in 2004, but thereafter indigenous ship owners have been longing to benefit from the fund after several promises by the government failed.
The accumulated fund represents a two per cent contribution by indigenous ship owners on every contract done in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

The fund was established under the Cabotage and Inland Shipping (Cabotage) Act 2003, to provide finance to operators to maintain their vessels or purchase new ones.

Amaechi noted that there was a CVFF before this administration, and the money was applied to building faculty of Maritime in several Universities, but this time it would be given to ship owners.
“This is the first time we will be giving it to shipowners directly. So, we have agreed to set up a committee that will draft the guideline, which would be taken to the National Assembly for approval.

“There must be a rule, which anybody will qualify to be allowed to borrow the money, and the implementation will be handled by the lending institutions.

“The idea is to enhance the best of the maritime industry, and to do that people must borrow and return for others to borrow, and that is how we can grow the economy.

“One of the shipowners said he has 30 vessels, another one said 16; I said if you have these vessels the number of persons you will employ must have been high. So, the more vessels we buy, the more employment we create, and the more the growth of the economy,” he said.

Chairman, Ship owners forum, Mrs Margret Orakwusi, said the move was a welcome development, adding that the guidelines need to be specific on issues of interest rate; duration of the loan; category of vessels needed, and other condotions.

Orakwusi said she looked forward to the disbursement of the fund, and a better shipping industry where the fund would be utilised judiciously.

She canvassed a long spread of the interest rate on CVFF, noting that ships lasted for 30 years and more, with a single-digit interest and a low figure.

A maritime lawyer, Chidi Ilogu, urged the committee to come up with good suggestions to move the maritime industry forward.

“There should be a clear and positive indication to implement the policy, as we cannot keep the money forever in the bank; it has to serve the purpose it is meant to serve. The process for disbursement will take some time to fine-tune,” he said.

Ilogu added: “Nigeria has to be proactive, from all indications we want to be seeing being proactive He expressed Optimism that the Federal Govt will live up to its promise on the disbursement.”
Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside, said the meeting has chart a course for disbursement of the CVFF after getting authorisation from Mr President to proceed with it.

“After extensive consultation, it was decided by the stakeholders here that a committee be set up to come up with a draft guideline, which the minister will study and pass on to the National Assembly for approval in line with the provisions of the Cabotage Act.

“After then, we will move to the next phase of actual disbursement, using the banks as the platform to disburse the fund.”
He assured that due process would be followed in the disbursement, saying: “We don’t believe there is a mathematical solution, we will follow due process.”

Poultry farmers under the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration’s agripreneur programme have continued to count their gains, as poultry processors in the state have purchased a total of 125,000 birds from 11 farm clusters in the state’s broiler breeding scheme.

The new figures are an improvement from the earlier reports that the off-takers bought off 60,000 birds from the beneficiaries of the scheme, which is targeted at improving protein production in the state to fight malnutrition and other health-related challenges.

The new figures were polled from the activities of broiler breeders in Benin metropolis, where the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (NIRSAL), provided support in de-risking investment in farms operated in Oredo, Ikpoba Oka and Egor Local Government Areas (LGAs).

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, “We have recorded impressive success with the broiler breeding programme as we did with the rice production. For poultry, our partner, NIRSAL, ensured that the farmers get the best out of the partnership by de-risking the investment.

“As at Wednesday, word got to us that the birds were about 60,000, but the off-takers have increased the purchase to 125,000, which covers a substantial part of the birds that were bred.”

He said the bird breeding programme was designed in such a way that the farmers are provided with needed inputs and extension service to ensure that there are no loses.

He added, “A lot of the farmers are seeing such a scheme work perfectly for the first time. The second phase of the programme has already commenced, with calls for new participants in the scheme.”

Noting that the agripreneur programme is anchored at the Office of the Special Adviser on Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security Programme, he said the state government has expertly managed the support to the farmers for maximum impact.

Dana Air said it is working hard to hit a 7.2 million passenger mark by the first quarter of this year and hopes to grow its fleet size to nine aircraft.

Spokesman of the airline, Kingsley Ezenwa,  disclosed this in an interview in Lagos.

He said the carrier was consolidating on its business plan to deliver on the promise.

Ezenwa said: “ We have been here for the past 11 years doing what we know how to do best passionately and persistently. With a fleet size which we hope to grow to nine aircraft, our target is to hit about 7.2m flown passengers by the first quarter of 2020.  We are orderly and we like to take one step at a time. We are consolidating while sticking to our strategic fleet and route expansion plan.’’

Dana Air last year won the Most Stable Airline in Nigeria award organised by  Air Transport Quarterly  Magazine.

The Editor-in-Chief, Air Transport Quarterly Magazine, Supo Atobatele, said the award was in honour of some of the industry’s finest individuals and corporate bodies whose penchant for hard work, innovation and capacity building  has not only greatly improved the business of air transport but enhanced safety of the air space.

According to him, Dana Air bagged the award as a result of her consistency and stable operations offering safe and reliable air transport in the past few years.

Ezenwa said: “ The reward for hard work is more work. There is no better way to end the year 2019 than a recognition like this.’’

He dedicated the award to the airline’s customers for their loyalty and support for the last 11 years and reassured them of the airline’s commitment to continue providing safe, comfortable, on time and reliable air transport.

Meanwhile, Middle East Carrier Emirates Airlines said it will focus on  strengthening its business across operational, commercial and customer experience lines in 2020.

Its President, Tim Clark, who disclosed this, said the airline has put  measures in place to open doors to global visitors as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hosts Expo 2020.

On Emirates’ outlook for the year ahead, Clark  said: “In 2020, we’ll continue to leverage our partnerships to provide even more connectivity and value for our customers. And we look forward to welcoming the world to Dubai for Expo 2020, where we will showcase the future of aviation at the Emirates Pavilion.”

He said the airline flew close to 58 million passengers in 2019  in over  186,000 flights  traveling  to more than 885 million kilometers around the globe.

He said : “Emirates also expanded customer choice, connectivity and convenience by growing its partnerships. The airline ended 2019 with 26 code hare partners and 156 interline partners in 200 countries, extending its network by over 1,800 unique destinations. New partnerships forged in 2019 include with China Southern Airlines, Africa World Airlines, LATAM Airlines, SpiceJet and Interjet.
than 6 million passengers on their jointnetworks to and through Dubai since 2017,’’he added.

Emirates’ passengers benefit from seamless connectivity, accessing 94 destinations on the flydubai network, while flydubai passengers can also access 143 Emirates destinations.

“Emirates expanded its A380 network with the introduction of scheduled services to Riyadh, Cairo and Muscat. The Emirates A380 also operated seasonal services during the summer to Boston and Amman, offering more customers the opportunity to

experience its flagship aircraft.” Clark said  Emirates elevated its  inflight entertainment experience by introducing playlist synching.

He said : “  Customers can now browse the extensive content on offer, create personalized playlists ahead of their flight,

and sync it to their seats once on board their flight, using the Emirates App. Since its launch, more than 180,000 unique playlists have been created, and the airline is expanding this function progressively across its entire fleet.

“Emirates continues to invest over US$ 27 million annually to operate inflight connectivity systems, serving the

expectations of modern travellers. More than 13 million Wi-Fi connections were made on-board Emirates flights in 2019, as

customers increasingly expect the ability to stay connected to family and friends when they fly.

“Providing a stress-free, end-to-end customer experience, Emirates launched its first remote check-in terminal outside of the airport, to provide smooth connections for cruise passengers in Dubai. These Emirates check-in counters, located at

Port Rashid, allow passengers who are disembarking from their cruise ships to check in for their onward Emirates flight and enjoy a hassle-free stopover visit in the city.

“Emirates launched bio metric boarding and facial recognition technology at its departure gates for customers flying from Dubai to any of its 12 destinations in the U.S., reducing the time taken for identity checks to two seconds or less. More

bio metric technology will be rolled out in the coming year, in coordination with partners at Dubai International airport.

“The Emirates App has become one of the top airline apps with nearly 2 million active users, and is available in 19

languages including Arabic, allowing users to search, book and manage their flights. The airline has also recently

launched a new feature on its app called Airport Maps, allowing customers to navigate seamlessly through Dubai

International Airport including check-in desks, Emirates lounges, shops, restaurants or ATMs in the airport.”

Idris Wada, Serving Governor, 7 Others In Trouble Over ₦6.5 Billion Fraud

• EFCC probes Wada, Ayeni, AVM Atawodi over arms deal

• Funds traced to foreign car dealership, offshore accounts

Quote:A serving governor is topping the list of suspects being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an alleged N6,549,942, 637.14 fraud in an arms deal. Also under scrutiny are the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada, a former Chairman of Skye Bank, Mr. Tunde Ayeni, retired Air Vice Marshal Salihu Atawodi and four others.

The alleged fraud was perpetrated by the defunct Presidential Implementation Committee on Maritime Security (PICOMSS), which was headed by Atawodi. About N4.9billion cash was said to have from PICOMMS accounts without any specific project in mind.

The serving governor was alleged to have received N1, 475, 144,199.15 of the withdrawn cash for the purpose of lobbying members of the House of Representatives to convert PICOMS into an agency. The name proposed was Maritime Security Agency. The governor was chairman of the House Committee on National Security, Intelligence and Public Safety at the time and he was said to have convinced Atawodi’s PICOMS to part with the cash. The sum received was such a top secret that a former Speaker was given a “ridiculous N1million” as his share.

Some former members of the House of Representatives who benefitted from the bribe-for-bill cash from the governor might be invited for questioning, the Nation gathered last night. Sources said the governor was initially cooperating with the EFCC on the investigation, only to stop honouring the invitation of the anti-graft agency two days before he was declared elected by the Supreme Court. He currently enjoys immunity from prosecution by virtue of his office, but he may still face trial after his tenure. The remaining seven key suspects are expected to be arraigned in court soon.

They include Mrs. Winifred Atawodi; Aeroconsult Limited, Xanatos Limited and a daughter of the ex-PICOMMS chairman, Eleojo who is under investigation. The EFCC has already blocked the following amounts in Mrs. Winifred Atawodi’s accounts: N141, 611, 736.8 and $228, 428.16. Another N200million has been placed on Post No Debit (PND) in First Mutual Micro-Finance Bank traced to Purple Pepper Farms Limited allegedly owned by Atawodi’s daughter (Eleojo). About five hectares of land worth N245million have been seized from the Atawodis. The EFCC has also uncovered how $6.12million was invested by the Atawodis in Midland Corporate Investment Limited account with Sun Trust Savings and Loans Real Estate Limited.

From the cash, AVM Atawodi allegedly transferred $408,000 transferred to an auto firm in the United States called Hennessy Cadillac for exotic vehicles including a Rolls Royce. About $808, 851 was located in Wells Fargo Bank 2 in the name of United International Enterprises. Detectives have identified a house allegedly owned by Atawodi in Lot of the 17th District of Fulton County in Georgia at 3266 Ferncliff Lane, Atlanta Georgia 30324. Despite the seizure of the passports of the Atawodis, one of the daughters has applied to travel abroad for medical treatment in order to sell the house in Atlanta.

The EFCC has also been alerted by some foreign collaborating anti-fraud agencies of plot by the daughter to sell the house. Investigation revealed that PICOMMS was set up between 2008 and 2012. It was disbanded in 2013. The committee was expected to guarantee safety on the sea and waterways. Findings by detectives revealed that AVM Atawodi, his friends and immediate family feasted on the resources allocated to PICOMMS including donor agencies funds. Others funding PICOMMS were the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA), NIMASA, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Ministry of Defence (MOD).

A document obtained by The Nation indicated that on 12th November, 2010, AVM Atawodi made PICOMMS to issue out contracts for Maritime Domain Monitoring System for Maritime Surveillance at a cost of $32,337,163.00 to Xanatos Company Limited linked with a former Chairman of Skye Bank, Mr. Tunde Ayeni. “The fraud was detected in the course of reviewing how funds were disbursed from PICOMS to Xanatos Company Limited and other beneficiary companies. Xanatos Company Limited made a lot of questionable payments obviously from the contract sum.

“One of the companies was AUSWEE Investment Limited where Atawodi, his wife and children are directors. Checks on AUSWEE acronym revealed as follows A(Amana); U(Uneku-the daughter); S(Salihu); W(Winifred Abiodun Atawodi-wife); E(Eleojo-another daughter); E(Ebi-another daughter). But one Roland Uhuago, who is an associate of AVM Atawodi, was used as a front for AUSWEE. From the statements of accounts of PICOMS in Polaris Bank, Union Bank and ECOBANK, there were many cash withdrawals and cash movement lodged in Sun Trust Savings and Loans through a former director of the finance firm, Mr. Mohammed Jibril. About $5million was invested on behalf of the Atawodis by Jibril.

“During that period, about N4.9billion was withdrawn in cash in 2011 which they claimed they used for an unclear purpose. We have seized the passports of AVM Atawodi and some members of his family to restrict their movement to the country pending the commencement of their trial. Based on the depth of investigation, EFCC has blocked the accounts of Mrs. Winifred Atawodi’s with N141, 611, 736.8 and $228, 428.16.

The land was bought from Hilton Hotel and the relevant agency in the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has confirmed it.” On the involvement of ex-Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State, the brief on the case indicated that his company Aeroconsult Limited was awarded a contract for the construction of a hanger in Benin Airport for the sum of N2, 780, 649, 450.00 described as an inflated rate.

“Aeroconsult also sublet their contract to Olutoyi Estate Development and Services Limited in which N700million was given to the company. From the inflated total cost of the hangar, about N550million was given to AUSWEE. And from the N500million, about N484, 000,000 was transferred to Vector Integrated Services Limited owned by Atawodi. This company has an account with Union Bank where Mrs. Winifred Atawodi was a manager before she retired. The withdrawal from AUSWEE to Vector Integrated Services was from Atawodi. And from Union Bank, some of the cash were moved into the account of Vector Integrated Services Limited in Fidelity Bank.”

A top source in EFCC said: “When we invited the former Governor of Kogi State, Capt. Idris Wada for interrogation, he insisted that the contract was well-executed. But we detected evidence of transfers to AUSWEE which suggested that the hangar contract was inflated. The ex-governor and Aeroconsult have more questions to answer, especially when fresh transfers were made in 2018 and 2019 to AVM Atawodi.”

Regarding the serving governor, the source added: “The N1, 475, 144,199.15 was converted to dollars and handed over to the governor when he was a member of the House of Representatives. The owner of the Bureau De Change used by PICOMMs, Sharif Shanono has been quizzed and he has provided evidence of transactions. We also observed that on 21/12/2011, about N250million was transferred from PICOMMS account to Saab Global Links Limited account 1012330930 belonging to Shanono.

“We were on the case before the governor’s election was validated by the Supreme Court. In fact, he was to appear before our detectives two days to the Supreme Court judgment but he stayed away to await the verdict and avoid being detained.

“While going through records, detectives were able to confirm how a paltry N1million was given to a former Speaker of the House of Representatives. Now that the governor has immunity, we have to wait till 2023 when he completes his tenure before resuming his investigation and trial. We are likely to invite some former members of the house who benefitted from the bribe-for-bill cash. The bill was titled, “Maritime Security Agency Establishment Bill (MASECA) 2010 to change PICOMMS into an agency. So far, seven out of the eight suspects implicated in this fraud may face trial.”

Daily Devotional for Sunday 26th January

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY 26TH JANUARY.

REFUSE PRIDE.

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble (James 4:6).

Sometimes, it’s difficult to tell when people are proud, because pride is of the heart. Only God’s Word can diagnose pride in the heart of a man. As you study, meditate or listen to God’s Word; it “x-rays” your heart to reveal what’s therein. If there’s pride or something that’s not right, the Word will reveal it for you to make the necessary changes.

The Bible says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). God’s Word discerns the thoughts and intents of the heart. In 1 Samuel 16:7, it says, “…man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

Don’t wait for someone to accuse you of being proud. Use the Word to examine yourself. Study the Scriptures and see what’s described as pride; behaviours of men and women that God referred to as proud, and expressions of pride with terms as, “his heart was lifted up” (2 Chronicles 26:16; 32:25; Ezekiel 28:5,17). A proud look (Proverbs 6:17), and also Proverbs 21:4 that talks about “An high look, and a proud heart...” both of which God says are sin.

Fight to remain humble. Use the right words on people; gracious and loving words. Emulate Jesus. The Bible says in spite of His glory, majesty and greatness, He “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:5-8). Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Precious Father, I receive your Word today into my spirit, gladly, and I thank you for the transformation it brings to my life. The humility of Christ is evident in my thoughts, communication and actions, thereby causing your grace to increase in my life for greater glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#TALKINGSESSION

26TH JANUARY.

KINDLY DAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Blessed Jesus, You’re the Way, the Truth, and the Life; besides You, there’s no other. How glorious it is to know that I am complete in You, lacking nothing and in need of nothing. You’re my everything; and to You alone be all glory, honour, and praise forevermore.

My life is for the glory of God. I am not an ordinary person, for I am a living epistle, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, known and read of all men.

Through me, many are coming to the knowledge of Christ. My speech is modeled in line with God’s thoughts and direction for my life. I declare that prosperity, victory, success, growth and financial abundance are the hallmarks of my life.

I am sensitive to the leading of the Spirit, and His guidance in my life for my spiritual growth and development. My acts of service in the house of God will inspire commitment, growth, and development of younger Christians, such that there will be no cause for stumbling for them, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Buhari To EU: We Will Defeat Boko Haram With Civil War Experience
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-25-2020, 10:28 PM - No Replies

Quote:We'll defeat Boko Haram with civil war experience, Buhari tells EU

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on Friday in Abuja said security forces in the country are capable and competent in winning the fight against Boko Haram insurgents in the country.

He said with the 30-month civil war experience of Nigeria's military, it is capable of handling the crisis rocking the North-East.

Buhari said this while receiving Janez Lenarcic, the European Union Commissioner for Crisis Management in the State House, Abuja.

The President said, “If we were capable to fight a 30-month civil war and reorganised our country, I wonder why people are thinking that Nigeria cannot do it.

“We have the experience of the civil war. I could recall the role of the military, the army, each commander had in his pocket how to behave himself and how to allow international bodies like yourself to go round and see for themselves that people are treated in the most humane way.

"We have this experience and I assure you that we also have this confidence in your organisation. That is why I feel that Nigeria is capable of handling this crisis, it may take long but we are capable of handling it.”

Buhari also blamed the inability of the Nigerian military to subdue the insurgents on the increasing proliferation of arms in the G5 Sahel region.

He said, “The important thing really is weapons reaching the Sahel; the instability it is causing. Look at the casualties in Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali; Libya has a direct impact on the stability of the Sahel.

"As for Boko Haram, we try to disabuse the minds of the people and I think our people now understand the basic dishonesty in it. With my experience personally in the civil war, I am sure we will get over it.”

The retired general also told the EU that one of the next priorities of his regime is to rehabilitate Internally Displaced Persons in the North East, adding that it informed his decision to create an exclusive ministry, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

I assure you of Nigeria’s commitment to enhance and deepen cooperation with the EU in all areas. Our priority in the next level is to ensure that Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, are rehabilitated so that livelihood should be established and the children should not lose the opportunity to go back to school, which is very important for the future of that area and Nigeria generally.

“I assure you that we are aware of these problems and we will continue to do our best. The newly created Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs is coordinating NEMA and others, to make sure that whatever resources we get are well utilised. The ministry will be accountable to the government instead of having too many bodies doing the same thing. We are also reaching out to foreign countries explaining to them our position, and we are confident we will get over it.”

The EU Commissioner on his part acknowledged Nigeria's big role in the African continent and requested a development plan between the EU and Nigeria concerning the issues in the North East.

He expressed the EU's readiness to support Nigeria in ending the insurgency in the Northeast.

“We would like to support your efforts. We believe all relevant actors; military, civilian as well as humanitarian should come together. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs is suggesting such high-level dialogue.

“In situations such as what we have in the northeast, international law and international humanitarian law should apply. We believe in your efforts to end the conflict; military effort alone probably will not be sufficient without identifying and addressing the socio-economic factors causing it," he stated.

Boko Haram, ISWAP Clash As Members Turn Guns Against Each Other. Many Killed

Quote:Intense gunfire between two rival jihadist groups in northeast Nigeria has left several fighters dead, two sources with close knowledge of the incident told AFP on Monday.

Fighters in pickup trucks from a Boko Haram faction loyal to Abubakar Shekau stormed a camp belonging to rival IS-aligned Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), resulting in a fierce gunbattle that caused several fatalities, the sources said.

The Boko Haram jihadists attacked the camp in Sunnawa village in Abadam district near the border with Niger to reclaim their women seized by ISWAP fighters in an earlier raid on their camp across the border in Niger.

Details of the clashes which happened on Wednesday were slow to emerge due to limited telecom services in the remote region.

“It was a deadly fight that left several fighters on both sides dead,” said the first source, while the other source said both sides suffered substantial losses as “the fighting was intense.”

ISWAP militants had earlier raided a Boko Haram camp in the Diffa region of neighbouring Niger where they kidnapped 13 women.

Boko Haram traced the women to Sunnawa in Lake Chad area which is under ISWAP control and decided to “extricate” them, said the second source.

“The operation didn’t succeed, the women are still in the hands of their captors,” he said.
ISWAP broke away from Boko Haram in 2016 with IS-support in part due to its rejection of indiscriminate attacks on civilians.

The group has focused attacking soldiers and military installations although it has increasingly been targeting civilians since its takeover in 2018 by more hardline fighters who deposed its leader and executed his deputy.

Since the split the two factions have been locked in deadly skirmishes which saw ISWAP winning over Boko Haram fighters and territories controlled by Shekau.

“They have been killing each other, with each side declaring the other infidels”, said the first source.
Since the split the two factions have been locked in deadly skirmishes which saw ISWAP winning over Boko Haram fighters and territories controlled by Shekau. “They have been killing each other, with each side declaring the other infidels”, said the first source.

Shekau’s execution of many of his commanders he accused of insubordination is seen by fighters loyal to them who switched to ISWAP as unforgivable, the sources said.

In December, a jihadist delegation from Mali and Libya met the leaders of both factions in the ISWAP-controlled Lake Chad area in a failed attempt to broker peace, the sources said.

Both camps refused to make concessions and the delegation left without achieving their mission as the two factions refused to recognise each other as Muslims.

“Shekau’s flat refusal to stop indiscriminate killings and branding anyone who does not share his view as an apostate is the major wedge to truce,” said the first source, as is both groups’ rejection of power-sharing.

IS only recognises ISWAP leadership since its split from Boko Haram and once the two factions coalesced.Shekau would have to abdicate and his faction absorbed into ISWAP, said the first source.

“Shekau would rather die than give in and play second fiddle,” he said. (AFP)

Locust Invade locust Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia has left crops devastated
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Quote:A locust invasion in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia has left crops devastated. It is the biggest swarm in decades, with billions of the ravenous insects nibbling their way through the already climate-ravaged region.

Thick clouds of locusts are blackening the skies of East Africa from Ethiopia and Somalia into Kenya due to extreme weather changes.

Experts warned Friday that the insect infestation could have disastrous effects on a region still recovering from recent drought and aggressive flooding.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimated that one locust invasion in Kenya covered around 2,400 square kilometers (930 square miles) and contained up to 200 billion locusts which descend to feed off plants and vegetation.

People in Kenya have been seen shooting in the air, waving sticks, banging cans and running around trying to chase the locusts away, according to the Associated Press news agency.

Biggest in decades

For Ethiopia and Somalia, the infestation is the biggest in 25 years, and for Kenya it is the greatest swarm in 70 years, according to the FAO.

A locust consumes their own weight in food every day. Farmers face frustration as vegetation for their livestock is consumed by the ravenous locusts. Many were just slowly recovering from three years of drought, a process which usually takes up to five years.

The FAO warned that the insects could "reproduce rapidly and, if left unchecked, their current numbers could grow 500 times by June,'' spreading to Uganda and South Uganda.

People have been seen shooting in the air or waving sticks to fend off the locusts

Climate crisis

In an already vulnerable region with high levels of poverty, the locusts can further devastate crops, resulting in "a major food security problem", said Guleid Artan of the Climate Prediction and Applications Centre at a press conference in Nairobi.

The locusts, he warned, were the latest symptom of extreme weather conditions that also saw a 2019 drought end in one of the wettest rainy seasons in four decades in parts of East Africa, with mass floods killing hundreds. The year 2019 witnessed eight cyclones, the most in a single year since 1976.

From East Africa to Australia

Artan attributed the weather crisis in East Africa to a warmer western Indian Ocean — a climate condition referred to as the Indian Ocean Dipole which has conversely led to extreme drought in Australia.

Miles away, Australia is also currently undergoing its own nature extremities: wildfires, dust storms, flooding and hail.

"We know East Africa is one of the most vulnerable to climate change. We know this region will see more extremes," Artan said.

If the locusts are not controlled by the beginning of the next planting and rainy season around March, herders could see more crops devastated.

Federal Government to Seeks $1 Billion Loan To Boost Mechanised Farming-Sabo Nanono
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 01-25-2020, 11:36 AM - No Replies

Quote:The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono, says the federal government will obtain $1 billion from foreign banks to purchase farming equipment for local farmers in the country.

Mr Nanono disclosed this at the inauguration of the committee on the Green Imperative Programme on Friday in Abuja.

The banks are Deutsche Bank(DB), Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and Islamic Development Bank. He said the loans will be given at the rate of three per cent interest and will be repaid over a period of 15 years.

The Green Imperative Programme was launched by Vice President Yemi Osibanjo in January 2019. The programme emanated from the More Food International Programme which was initiated by Brazil to aid agricultural development around the world.

The programme aims at strengthening the productive capacity of smallholders farmers in African countries. In Nigeria, it seeks to enhance agricultural mechanisation, specialised extension services and agro-processing in the 774 local government areas of the country.

“With this funds, the country is expected to purchase 10,000 units of tractors, 50,000 units of assorted implements and equipment for assembly in Nigeria,” he said.

He listed other expenditure for the loans as “Training beneficiaries for over a period of 10 years, establishment of 780 service centres to aid smallholder farmers.”.

Mr Nanono said only seven tractors are available per 100 square metres in Nigeria, unlike in Kenya that has 700 tractors per 100 square metres.

The minister said Nigeria should have not less than 60,000 tractors, adding that mechanisation is the top priority for Nigerians.

He said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will receive the fund from DB and make it available to local banks at concessional rates to cover the working capital needs of the service centres for the first two years.

“It is particularly crucial for the sustainability of the project, it will also ensure the repayment of the loan to the two financing institutions,” he said.

The new proposed loan will add to Nigeria’s foreign debt which critics includinga former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, have said is becoming unsustainable.

Speaking on Nigeria’s debt portfolio, late last year, Mr Obasanjo said Nigeria is already borrowing to service existing loans.

“As at 2015, total external debt was about $10.32billion. In four years, our external debt grew to N24,947 trillion or $81.274 billion. To service this current level of indebtedness, we must commit at least 50 per cent of our foreign earnings, such a situation tells about an impending bankruptcy because no entity can survive while devoting 50 per cent of its revenue to debt servicing.”

“In 2018, total debt servicing cost took over 60 per cent of government revenue. As if this is not bad enough, we are currently seeking to add another $29.6 billion loan to our already overburdened debt portfolio. ”

“Our current budget, out of which we are spending 25 per cent to service debt is not our total earnings, a lot of it is also borrowing. We are borrowing to service what we have borrowed and yet we are borrowing more,” Mr Obasanjo said, warning that Nigeria risks bankruptcy.

Insurance cover for agric loan

According to the agric minister, the Islamic Cooperation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit, (ICIEC) of the Islamic Development Bank and the Brazilian Guarantee and Fund Management Agency (ABGF) will provide insurance for the non-honouring of sovereign financial obligation.

The insurance will cover the total amount provided by the BNDES and other financial institutions. The ProEx Brazil programme credit line could provide interest rate equalisation for total financing that comes from BNDES.
