Abacha's $308 million loot to return to Nigeria as FG and US sign agreement

The United States of America and the Nigerian government on Monday February 3, signed an Asset Recovery Agreement to repatriate over $308 million of forfeited assets to Nigeria.

The confiscated funds were laundered through the US banking system and then held in bank accounts in Jersey in the name of Doraville Properties Corporation, a BVI company and in the name of the son of former Head of State of Nigeria, General Sani Abacha.

Governments of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, United States of America and the Bailiwick of Jersey commenced the negotiation of the procedures for the repatriation, transfer, disposition and management of the assets in 2018.

It is expected that the money which was forfeited as property involved in the illicit laundering of the proceeds of corruption arising in Nigeria from 1993 to 1998 when General Abacha was Head of State by a U.S. Federal Court in Washington DC in 2014, will benefit the people of Nigeria as it will be administered by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority and independently audited.

Three critical projects to be executed with the $308m were previously authorised by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian legislature. The recovered funds will reportedly be used to finance the construction of the Second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Abuja-Kano road.

The Federal Government will also establish a Monitoring Team to oversee the implementation of the projects the money is channeled into and also make periodic reports.

The statement also revealed that the US will continue to seek forfeiture of over $177 million in additional laundered funds held in trusts that name Abacha associate Bagudu, the current governor of Kebbi State and his relatives as beneficiaries.

The statement reads in part;

Quote:“Specifically, the laundered funds under this agreement will help finance the construction of the Second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Abuja-Kano road – investments that will benefit the citizens of each of these important regions in Nigeria.
“The United States has asked the government of Nigeria to withdraw litigation it has instituted in the UK that hinders the US effort to recover these additional funds for the people of Nigeria. The United States entered into the trilateral agreement to repatriate the Jersey assets because of its longstanding commitment to recover asset for the benefit of those harmed by grand corruption and because of the important safeguards embodied in the agreement.

Assistant Attorney General of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, Brian A. Benczkowski was also quoted saying;

Quote:“General Abacha and his cronies robbed Nigerians of vast public resources and abused the U.S. and international financial systems to launder their criminal proceeds.
“Today’s landmark agreement returns to the people of Nigeria hundreds of millions of the embezzled monies through a lawful process that ensures transparency and accountability."

Donald Trump wins the Republican Iowa caucus by 97.1%, showing Republicans are united in their choice for 2020 presidential nominee

US President Donald Trump is surely going to be the Republican party flag bearer in the upcoming 2020 presidential election after smashing the very important Iowa caucuses on Monday night.

While Democrats fought a high-profile battle to win the Democratic poll which resulted in a fiasco after the voting app crashed,  Republicans showed they were far more united in their choice for president as Trump got 97.09
                           [Image: 5e3967a2d0c00.jpg]

Trump got 97.09% of the vote, and neither of his competitors reached the 2% mark, with his two opponents, Bill Weld and Joe Walsh getting just 1.5 and 1.4%.

Donald Trump Jr. was among the Trump supporters who went into campaign mode in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday night, with his brother Eric by his side, while celebrated surgeon Ben Carson was also sent to campaign for the president.
Back in 2016, Iowa had not been a victory ground for Trump, with Ted Cruz coming out on top by 27.6% to Trump's 24.3% while Marco Rubio was a close third at 23.1%, and Ben Carson came in at 9.3%.

Iran to execute man for allegedly spying for America's CIA

Iran on Tuesday announced that its Supreme court has passed a death sentence for an Iranian man convicted of spying for the CIA, with Iranian state media alleging that he had shared details of the Islamic Republic's nuclear program with America's Central Intelligence Agency.

Two other alleged spies were given 15-year prison terms but none of their identities has been revealed.

"Amir Rahimpour, who was a CIA spy and got big pay out and tried to present part of Iran's nuclear information to the American intelligence service, had been tried and sentenced to death and recently the supreme court upheld his sentence and you will see it carried out soon," Judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili was quoted by the semi-official Fars news agency as saying.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran are especially high at the moment over the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, with subsequent attacks on US embassies and outposts in Iraq.

Last summer, Iran said it caught a spy ring of 17 individuals, sentencing some of them to death.

No fewer than two persons were killed, while 10 others declared missing on Monday at Isu community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State over a boundary clash with their Utuma neighbours in Biase Local Government Area and Ukwa Odukpani LGA of Cross River State.

For some years now, the Isu clan have been locked in a bloody land dispute with their Utuma neighbours in Cross River State.

Sources said gunmen invaded the Isu community about 8a.m. and shot dead two people and fled.

President General of Isu community, Elder Felix Okoro, said gunmen had laid siege to Isu land where they killed two natives while about 10 persons were missing.

Okoro disclosed that the hoodlum came from the disputed area at Iheosu-Isu to attack the natives who had been taking refuge at a location in the community.
He said: “The hoodlums invaded Isu clan this morning (yesterday) and shot dead two persons. We have been suffering attacks from our Utuma neighbours.

“This conflict started when limestone was discovered in Isu community and the Utuma have been laying claim to it, killing Isu people. Over 100 houses have been burnt and 60 persons killed with three villages sacked.

“For about two years now, the people of Iheosu-Isu and other villages have fled from the land because they were being killed and their houses burnt. They have become internally displaced persons (IDPs) in their land.

“The IDPs are now quartered at Ohabuike Primary School, Obieze-Isu. We are calling on the Federal and state government to protect Isu people before they kill all of us.

“We have a state of emergency at hand with the over 3,500 IDPs at the primary school. Isu people are grateful to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Abia State government for sending relief materials.

“It costs the community N2 million monthly to buy food, clothing and drugs for them. The IDPs cannot farm because their lands have been taken over and their houses burnt. Any Isu man who goes to the Iheosu-Isu is killed.

“Isu people are worried about the situation. We are being slaughtered like chicken. The Deputy Governors of Abia and Cross Rivers States have visited Isu and Utuma and appealed for peace, yet our Utuma and Ukwa neighbours won’t allow us to live in peace.

“We no longer go to the disputed area which is our land, but they have continued to attack us.”

Okoro urged the National Boundary Commission (NBC) as well as the Abia and Cross River State governments to urgently make further efforts to protect lives and property.

The Abia State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ene Okon, said the area was now calm.

Federal Government has embarked on a campaign to raise awareness on data protection and also promote privacy and data protection practices.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), charged Nigerians to always protect their data while using the internet.

“The ultimate goal of this celebration is to raise awareness, promote privacy, and data protection practices. In Nigeria, we started this celebration since last week, Thursday, with a press release followed by debates by secondary school students culminating in the final round holding today,” DG NITDA said.

He further noted that “28th January has been dedicated as international data privacy day. Last year, in 2019, the day was celebrated in nearly 50 countries, including the United States of America, India, Canada, and much more.
“The celebration started in 2007 after European Council declared 28th January as a Data Privacy Day in 2006. In Nigeria, we join the rest of the world to celebrate this year.”

“Without adequate and right type of infrastructure, there can be no robust connectivity,” he said.
Mr Ba recalled that Facebook had successfully undertaken two connectivity projects in Edo and Ogun involving a total of 800 kilometers of fibre connecting institutions and operator towers.

“Considering the connectivity gap that still exists in the country, there is a great need for more and even further expansion of infrastructure because increased penetration of services will require further deployment of infrastructure which will encourage investment and promote digital culture,” he said.

Mr Ba added that Nigeria is very important to Facebook for many reasons, but particularly because it is Africa’s most populous country.

Umar Danbatta, executive vice chairman and chief executive (EVC/CE) of NCC, commended the group for the model it has adopted in participating in the Nigerian market by partnering with licensees of the Commission.

Danbatta, who spoke through Edoyemi Ogoh, deputy director technical standards and network Integrity at NCC, assured the team of NCC’s irrevocable commitment to infrastructure expansion to enhance better connectivity.

He affirmed that NCC is aware of how central infrastructure is to the expansion of telecom services, and said that the realisation explained NCC’s adoption of the Open Access Model (OAM) and the licensing of infrastructure companies (Infracos) to cascade fibre to the hinterland of Nigeria.

Angst as OTTs bite N370bn off Telcos revenue

[Image: MOBILE-MONEY-1062x598.jpg]PHOTO: Capital FM
Over-the-top (OTT) services are now comfortably eating lunch of the telecommunications industry by de-layering that space and at last count have bitten off about N370 billion from the revenue of telecommunications operators in the country.

YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Blackberry Messenger and many others are the so-called over-the-top services.

They carry services over the networks, delivering value to customers, but without any carrier service provider being involved in planning, selling, provisioning, or servicing them must be checked.

According to a recent investigation by the Guardian, the activities of OTTs led to revenue losses put at N370 billion in 2019 as MTN, Globacom, Airtel, 9Mobile earned about ₦2.78tr from airtime sales and others.

The figure compared to N3.15tr in the corresponding period of 2018.
Also Average Revenue Per User (ArPU) fell by 20 per cent from $4.87 (N1,490) to $3.85 (N1,182) going by the official exchange rate of N305 to N306 per dollar in the period under review.

ArPU is used primarily by consumer communications, digital media and networking companies and is defined as the total revenue divided by the number of subscribers.

Association of Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), the umbrella body of telecom operators in the country, has consistently insisted that it is not right that a company providing traditional telecommunications services has to meet certain regulatory requirements, like those concerning data protection, while a company providing comparable services over the web does not.

Gbenga Adebayo, chairman, ALTON, recently said that “We are beginning to see the need for regulators to look at regulating technology instead of services.
“For example, the likes of YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Blackberry Messenger and many others are called over-the-top services that are not part of the core services for which operators are licensed.

“These over-the-top services have social, economic and security implications. If they are not licensed, it means they are not regulated, and in that case, there is no limit to the scope of what they can do. There is also no control over services and content they may provide,” he said.

But Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said that it has no plans to regulate OTT services.

Professor Garba Danbatta, executive vice chairman, NCC, last year, while acknowledging the impact of disruptive technology in the sector and the challenges it poses to telcos in terms of competition for market share, encouraged network providers in Nigeria to innovate.

Human rights activists, however, said that though regulation can be necessary to protect users’ rights – like it is to ensure data protection – some regulatory proposals risk our right to freedom of expression and can also thwart economic, social, and cultural rights.

Nelson Ceasar Obidile urged that regulator to be mindful of right-harming policy if it decides to regulate OTT.

Insecurity: We Are Handling Security Well, Osinbajo Tells Pastors

Quote:Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says there is an ongoing effort to improve the security situation in the country including plans to recruit more troops and officers to beef up the personnel of security agencies.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said the vice president received at the Presidential Villa, clergymen from the Northern part of Nigeria under the aegis of the Arewa Pastors Forum for Peace.

The VP said the Federal Government was committed to containing the threats and security concerns in the country.

He assured the pastors that the Federal Government was doing everything that needed to be done.

“We are handling security well, and as you know, including military deployment in diverse fields, like the Boko Haram in the North-East.

“In fact, we have to now recruit more into the army, and much faster than we ever did because we need men on the ground; resources also – to buy more arms, to buy more platforms.

“At the last meeting of the National Security Council that was held on Thursday, we had discussions on how to beef up the military’s platforms.

“How do we beef up the numbers? How do we recruit more men and women into the army? How do we collaborate more with local vigilante, the Civilian Joint Task Force and all that.

“So, there is a lot going on in terms of trying to beef up security; the security situation is one that is very challenging.

“We are also looking at aspects of surveillance – how we can do more aerial surveillance using drones and electronic devices to improve surveillance,” he said.

Osinbajo assured the clergymen that the Federal Government was also committed to finding lasting solutions to the perennial crisis in communities in the North and other parts of the country, including the ones bothering on religious prejudices.

He urged the group as ‘Men of God,” to also come up with ideas and their thoughts on how to find lasting peace.

Earlier in his remark, President of the Forum, Bishop Mbayo Japhet, said the group’s visit to the Presidential Villa was to support the regime and the vice president.

The Bishop described Osinbajo as an apostle of peace.

LASG Rolls Out 65 Buses...to Inject 550 Buses For Feeder Routes (photos)

Lagos State Government has rolled out 65 high capacity buses in addition to the existing buses as part of palliative measures to the restriction of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in parts of the State.

The Managing Director of Lagos Bus Services Limited, Idowu Oguntona, announced this deployment at a press conference in Lagos on Monday.

Oguntona disclosed that these buses, which started work today have recorded about 10,000 customers in the early hours of today, adding that the 65 buses will convey a total of 35,000 Lagosians daily.

He also disclosed that the buses will ply seven routes across the affected areas.

“We are here today to witness the official deployment of an additional 65 buses into the bus service to basically ease the current pressure that may be experienced on Lagos roads.

“We have Oshodi-Ajah, Inner Marina-Ajah, Obalende-Ajah and CMS-Ajah. Addressing the challenge in Ikeja, you have Ikeja-Ojota, Ikeja-Ogba, Berger-Ojota.

“Those are the seven routes the 65 buses will be deployed on and the impact will be such that at least 35,000 Lagosians will be in a very efficient, safe manner across the Metropolis,” he said.

Speaking on the question of introducing minibuses to ply the nook and crannies of Lagos, Oguntona assured that 550 medium-capacity vehicles for feeder routes will be injected as soon as possible.

He said: “We recognize the fact that some of the buses cannot go on the feeder roads, so the plan is to inject 550 medium capacity buses that can carry about 30 people and those minibuses will be deployed on the feeder roads, so there won't be any significant impact of the ban on commuters.”

The Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration has restricted commercial motorcycles and tricycles in some Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Authorities due to flagrant disobedience to traffic regulations and total disregard for safety by operators among other reasons.

Oakdale law enforcement officials  Arouza Male Enhancement  Guillermo Manriquez and Michael Eggener testified as rebuttal witnesses. Eggener spoke back to the scene after the stabbing; there was enough light to peer throughout the road from one aspect to the opposite. Manriquez instructed appellant's father in Spanish why appellant were arrested. Appellant's father did no longer say that appellant could not have committed the crime due to the fact he became someplace else. Manriquez contacted appellant's more youthful sister and she did now not tell him that appellant was at home when the incident happened. https://www.completefoods.co/diy/recipes...nt-reviews

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY 4TH FEBRUARY.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking (Matthew 6:7).

Some people believe what they need when they’re in a dire situation is a powerful prayer, but what exactly is a powerful prayer? To some, it has to do with the multiplicity of words or how loud they’re able to shout when they pray. But really, what produces result isn’t the intensity of your shout or multiplicity of your words; rather, it’s your faith in the Lord and His Word—your confidence in the One to whom you pray.

This makes prayer not only exciting, but also something to keep simple. That’s the essence of the Master’s admonition in our theme verse. He said, “Don’t pray like the heathen, who erroneously think they’ll be heard for using vain repetitions.” God isn’t hard of hearing.

The Bible says He already knows what you need before you ask Him (Matthew 6:8). Therefore, learn to pray like Jesus. He prayed and acted simply. Recall the simple way He prayed at the tomb of Lazarus.

The Bible says, “...And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth” (John 11:41-43).

Jesus said in Mark 11:23-24, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” That’s it! So, make your prayers simple. Pray with faith, confident of the Father’s love for you and the guarantee of hearing that you have in His presence.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for your Word in my heart, which comes forth from my lips in prayer, to effect changes in circumstances and situations around me. The power of the Holy Spirit is at work in me, bringing about a transformation in my life, from glory to glory, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

#TALKINGSESSION

4TH FEBRUARY.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Father, Yours is the greatness, the power, the glory, the majesty, and the splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Your blessing brings wealth, with no painful toil for it; therefore, I refuse to fret or struggle for anything, for I am in Your rest.

I am living in the morning of my life; I am prosperous and successful in every good work. I thank You for supplying everything I need to live triumphantly for Your glory and fulfil my destiny in You! You’ve brought me into the place of rest and superabundance, where all my needs are met.

I am set on the path of success, glory, victory and divine destiny! I walk in preordained pathways, for predestination is at work in me! The course of events in my life has been structured by God to bring Him glory, having established me to fulfil my destiny of Him!

I am excellent and full of glory; my path is as the shining light that shines brighter and brighter unto the perfect day! I am living the life of dominion, power, and righteousness.

I make progress with giant strides, by the power of the Spirit, and through the Word. I walk in increased grace, wisdom, knowledge, and divine provisions, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

86 repentant members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Bulumkutu Rehabilitation Centre Maiduguri, Dr. Mohammed Goni Alkali, managing director of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has said.

The former terrorists are sheltered and catered for by the Borno State Government with support from development partners.

Meanwhile, the NEDC is set to launch a scholarship program that will sponsor persons affected by insurgency in the region into the academics and to undertake vocational skills.

Alkali says this is part of the commission’s effort in alleviating the sufferings of those affected by insurgency.

At the Bulumkutu Rehabilitation Centre, the inmates are receiving educational, vocational and moral lessons for future reintegration into the society.

The North East Development Commission’s mandate is not just to provide food and non-food items to insurgency affected persons but also to ensure the stablisation of peace in the zone.

The commission says it will execute two priority projects in all the local government areas of the state.

The first set of projects will be in education with schools built and equipped for conducive teaching and learning.

Alkali said that the commission carries out its mandate in meeting the physical and emotional needs of those affected by insurgency.

He then inspected facilities within the rehabilitation centre such as hostels, kitchen, and the livelihood centre.

Falana To Seyi Makinde: Pay Off Elected Chairmen Or Let Them Serve Their Tenure
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-04-2020, 07:59 AM - No Replies

Quote:Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana waded into the local government crisis in Oyo State, on Monday, urging Governor Seyi Makinde to either allow the sacked elected Chairmen to serve out their tenure or pay them off if they won’t be allowed to complete their tenure.

Falana who held that caretaker chairmen were unknown to the nation’s constitution, charged Makinde to rather speed up the process of conducting a local government election in the state.

These were some of Falana’s remarks during the maiden edition of Emeritus Professor Muyiwa Awe Annual Memorial Lecture, held at the University of Ibadan, on Monday.

Responding to journalists on way out of the local government crisis in Oyo State, Falana said: “The governor will have to speed up election of Local Government officials because the caretaker committees are unknown to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

“Once the Local Government chairmen have been elected, they have to serve their tenure and if at all you are not allowing them to finish their tenure, you will have to pay them. This is the position of the law.”

Meanwhile, Attorney General of Oyo State, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, on Monday, said the return to office of the sacked Chairmen of local government and local council development areas in the state will be guaranteed by a court order to that effect.

This is as Oyelowo, who spoke on a Channels Television programme, noted that there was no particular court case instituted against the appointment of caretaker chairmen by the Governor Seyi Makinde led government.

Describing the local government crisis in the state as a combination of politics and legality, Oyewo, however, said it looked forward to the court rulings on its injunction filed against the Attorney General of the Federation and five others and its appeal against a court judgment obtained by the sacked Chairmen against Oyo State governor.

He said the state government will abide by a court judgment that declares its appointment of caretaker Chairmen as null and void and calls for a return to the status quo.

Oyewo, however, said the state government was keen to conduct local government elections as soon as the ongoing court cases are dispensed with.

“The bottom line is that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde is a rule of law administration. If a judgment comes out of the court directing that our action is null and void, go back to the status quo, that will be done.

“Even with the action to appoint caretaker chairmen taken by the government, there is no instituted action against the action of the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, till I speak.

“What everybody wants is for the state to be able to resolve this matter, both in terms of the legality and political process. Within a short time from now, we hope to be able to conduct elections and have the administration of local governments properly running as it is required,” Oyewo said.

Speaking further, Oyewo said the Supreme court judgment being alluded to by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in a letter to the state government, was not precisely to be enforced upon Oyo State.

Mentioning that there were some other states running local government using caretaker committees, he accused Malami of being partisan by writing the Inspector General of Police to enforce the judgment in Oyo State.

He described Malami’s involvement as subjudice, noting that the state government was in court to challenge the judgment obtained by the sacked Chairmen against the Oyo State governor.

“The Attorney General may have his reasons to have written that letter addressed to the Oyo state Attorney General but they are not based on the constitution and not based on law. They are so partisan.

“You don’t write a letter to the Chairman of a party in a state directing the governor. We run a federal government and this has been settled by the Supreme Court and sorted during the regime of President Olusegun Obasanjo when there was a dispute of creation of local government and the government withheld.

“The Supreme Court said if you have such issues, you go to court and that is what we have done. We have gone to court.

“The state government went to court because, with respect to the local government, we believe that the AGF was not properly briefed.

“If he were aware that the matter was subjudice, then he will not take such wanton, liberal use of his powers. His powers are guided by law, the constitution of the land, and as interpreted by the courts,” Oyewo said.

No corps member got impregnated by JSS 2 student in Cross River – NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Cross River State has debunked report of a JSS 2 student impregnating a female corps member serving in the state.

In a statement released by NYSC's Head Press & Public Relations Unit in the state, Abdullahi Yuguda, it was alleged that the report was shared on social media to malign the reputation and integrity of the scheme and the public perception of corps members.

It reads;

Quote:“The attention of the National Youth Service Corps, Cross River State has been drawn to a malicious publication making the rounds in the social media, alleging that a Female Corps Member was impregnated by a teenage boy (student) in the state.”

“To put the records straight, there is nothing as such in Cross River as claimed by the unknown writer. It is only meant to malign the reputation and integrity of the scheme and the public perception of our corps members. The national youth Service Corps is a reputable organisation that is very proud of her Corps Members because of their high level of discipline and responsibility and therefore cannot be involved in such a shameful act.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the authorities of NYSC at Local, Zonal and State levels never received any report of such formally or informally.

“The said news is the handiwork of fake news hawkers who derive joy in seeking attention or traffic to their websites, at the expense of protecting journalistic code of ethics.

“Embarrassingly the originators of the news failed to state the source of the news rather was dwelling on imaginary school, JSS student and Corps Member.
“Worthy of note is the fact that NYSC has a laid down procedure for approaching matters on Corps Discipline and Reward. But as at the time of fielding this rejoinder, no Corps Member in Cross River State is connected with such negative Act.

"Management of the Scheme in Cross River State advises the authors and originators of such callow write up to retract same and henceforth, desist from manufacturing fake news with the intention of deflating the reputation of the NYSC scheme but rather pay attention to the numerous selfless services rendered to Cross River communities by Members of the National Youth Service Corps.”

Air Canada jet with 128 passengers on board set to make emergency landing in Madrid after 'part of plane rips off and enters engine'

A Boeing 767 is reportedly set to make a dramatic emergency landing at Madrid airport after part of the plane ripped off and entered one of its engines.

The Air Canada flight AC837 was travelling to Toronto when the plane took off from Barajas Airport at 2.55pm local time with 128 passengers on board.

According to the UK Mirror, part of the landing gear fell off and entered one of the dual engines sometime after it departed.

Spanish airport operator AENA said the Canadian airliner called air traffic control 30 minutes after takeoff and requested a slot for an emergency landing,

The airport authority also confirmed that an F-18 Spanish Air Force combat jet has already taken to fly alongside the Air Canada plane so it can assess the damage to the aircraft and escort it towards the airport when it is ready to land.

Dozens of ambulances have also been sent to Madrid’s Barajas Airport and hospitals in the area have also been put on alert as part of protocol.

Spain’s air navigation manager Enaire confirmed: “A flight with a technical problem is circling Madrid before returning to Adolfo Suarez Madrid Barajas airport.”

A spokesman for a regional government-run emergency services coordinator said: “We have sent various emergency response resources to the airport because of problems with a plane.”

A spokesman for the airport operator said: “The airport is on standby to receive flight Air Canada flight AK837 which was bound for Toronto.”

The Air Canada pilot reportedly told passengers, in a message which has been made public that: “We are currently heading towards Barajas Airport and we are going to return to Madrid to land because as you know we had a little problem with one of the plane’s wheels when we took off.

“Therefore, as we’re carrying a lot of fuel we have to get rid of some fuel to be able to land. We will land in a few more minutes.

“When we are ready to land we will let you know.We thank you for your cooperation and patience and we would ask you to stay calm.”

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki writes IGP, DSS, demands Oshiomhole’s arrest

The political crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress in Edo State took a new twist today as the governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, called for the arrest of the National Chairman of the party and former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole.

Obaseki and Oshiomole have been at loggerheads for many months over who will crontrol the affairs of the state chapter of their party. While Oshiomole who is a former governor of the state wants to control the party, the governor is of the opinion that he is the incumbent governor and should preside over the party.

The request for Oshiomhole's arrest was contained in a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police and Director-General of the Department of State Services by the Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shuaibu, today Monday, February 3rd.

The petition claimed that the APC National Chairman had consistently breached the peace of Edo State by ignoring lawful orders of constituted authorities. The state governor said his administration had banned political rallies in the state but Oshiomole has repeatedly flouted the ban and organized political rallies.

Governor Obaseki had in a viral video recently vowed to deal with Oshiomhole if he keeps disrupting activities of Edo APC.

British woman and Australian boyfriend arrested after 'having sex' on public beach in Philippines

A British woman and her Australian boyfriend have been arrested after allegedly having sex on a public beach in the Philippines.

Police claim the couple were seen at about 5:45 pm last Thursday evening, January 30, by shocked locals on the popular Boracay Island in Aklan province. They claim families with children were on the beach.

Officers allegedly tried to stop the couple, but say they continued romping.

Police Corporal Joel Banga-ora accused the pair of being so drunk that they tried to ignore police and continue having sex. He said they had to be handcuffed and dragged to the station but they were still all over each other in the back of the police truck.

They have both been charged and released on bail pending a court appearance in February.

According to Mirror UK, Corporal Joel Banga-ora said while speaking by phone today: "Officers arrived at the beach and they kept going. We were stood next to them and they continued having sex.

"They were not embarrassed that everybody could see their bodies. The woman's breasts were fully exposed and the man's penis was visible.

"'They were so engrossed in each other they did not know what was happening around them."

Officers handcuffed the couple and put them into a truck to be taken to the local station.

However, police said they continued groping each other even when they were on the way to the cells.

Corporal Joel Banga-ora added: "They were very drunk so they were still trying to finish what they started on the beach."

The pair were detained at the Malay Municipal Police Station and later charged at the Aklan Prosecutor's Office with grave scandal.

A second charge of disobedience to a person in authority was added because the Australian man allegedly tried to run away after he had been arrested.

The couple posted bail of 6,000 pesos (£90) each for grave scandal and the man paid another 3,000 pesos (£45) for disobedience to person in authority. They were both released on the same day.

Corporal Joel Banga-ora added: "The trial has been scheduled for February but there are no exact dates yet. If they don't show up for trial they will get a travel ban to the Philippines.

"They have already left Boracay for Cebu City."

Tricycle Ban: PDP Faults Sanwo-Olu For Not Providing Alternative, To Protest
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-03-2020, 04:03 PM - Replies (1)

Quote:The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State chapter, will today lead a coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) and other opposition parties to protest the ban on commercial motorcycles (okada) and tricycles (Keke NAPEP) in some parts of the state.

Lagos government on January 27 wielded the big stick against the menace of okada and Keke NAPEP, proscribing their operations in six local government areas (LGAs), nine local council development areas (LCDAs) and 10 major highways across the state with effect from February 1.

Speaking with Daily Independent on Sunday, the PDP said it is giving Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu till 12 noon today to reverse the decision or be faced with massive protests that will bring activities in the state to a standstill.

While lamenting the hardship being experienced by some Lagosians as a result of the restrictions which took effect on February 1, the PDP said the action of the state government has shown that the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), is an elitist government that is insensitive to the plight of the masses.

It said it is alarmed that the Lagos State government can commence the anti-masses move without providing alternatives to suffering populace especially traders, students and other low income earners.

Barr. Taofik Gani, the Publicity Secretary of the party, said it is already in talks with leaders of civil society organisations to stage protests in the streets of Lagos if the hardship being experienced by Lagosians as a result of the ban continues on Monday.

It said it is surprised that the state government can commence the restrictions when the 800 buses it promised as an alternative means of transport is still lying fallow at the ports waiting to be cleared.

“We have declared that this is a fraudulent, ‘yahoo-yahoo’ government. It is a fraudulent government in the sense that they are making people believe that Lagos is already a mega city and smart city.

“In order to give that erroneous impression to the international community that they have attained that status and to continue to get the grant which by right every mega city get from the World Bank Development Agency, they have come up with this inhuman policy.

“Since 2007, we have challenged them to come and account for those money released from Brazil to support Lagos State’s claim of being a mega city which status you attain once you have a population of 10 million. Now they are treating Lagosians with disdain, saying because they want Lagos to become a smart city, Lagosians must suffer.

“When the Commissioner for Information appeared on television three days ago, he said they have 800 buses lying at the ports which are not yet cleared. This is a clear indictment of a government that puts the cart before the horse. What they are doing is worse than what is happening in Somalia where citizens are deliberately made to suffer for political reasons.

OPM Recovers Weapons From Cultist, Armed Robber, Kidnapper (Photos)

Quote:AFTER 240 PREVIOUSLY RECOVERED AMMUNITION IN A SINGLE SUNDAY SERVICE , OPM RECOVERS MORE SOPHISTICATED WEAPONS FROM A KNOWN CULTIST,KIDNAPPER AND ARMED ROBBER.

No Sunday passes by without a throng of men and women gathering on the altar to denounce their evil ways and involvement in criminal activities and there ammunitions surrendered.

The OPM amnesty program is a program that has transformed so many souls and rescued them from destruction.

According to Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere "His vision is not to be the richest man in the world, drive the best of cars or buy private jets but his vision is to reach out to the unreached, the Armed robbers, kidnapper, cultists, drug addicts, assassins and prostitutes.

Winning souls for christ, preparing men and women for rapture, depopulating hellfire and populating heaven is what he is passionate about ".
Every Sunday, Arms and Guns are recovered from this men and women who are determined to shun their past evil lifestyle and turn a new leaf by genuinely repenting and embracing Christ wholeheartedly.

Just like every other Sunday, today the 2nd of February 2020,
3 Sophicicated weapons such as 2 Aka 47's and 1 FMC.
10 Magazines with ammunitions
2 Police sergeant mobile uniform's
2 Mobile polo uniforms with rifle badge behind
2 Bullet proof jackets
4 walkie talkie's . Etc

Where recovered from some notorious criminals who denounced a life of crime. The recovered items have been handed over to the Anti cultism squad and the just recently repented men have started their rehabilitation process in OPM with immediate effect.

Because Apostle Chibuzor is very particular about human capital development, he is relentless in giving the lives of this young men a meaning even though the rehabilitation process is capital intensive thereby consuming large amounts of money.

Apart from the spiritual exercise they are made to go through, during the rehabilitation process accommodation is provided for them at no cost at all and they are fed twice daily. They are taught various skills like Pipeline welding, scaffolding, Paint making, Oil Rig operations, instrumentation and marine engineering ETC.

With the help of the kind hearted man of God, the church pays bride price and conducts proper marriage for the ones who are of marriable age or already leaving with a woman.

Their wives are given monies to start businesses of their choice and their children are automatically enrolled into the OPM free School where Lunch, Books, Uniforms, bags and footwears are given out for free.

God is indeed happy with OPM as the church and man of God is constantly in the business of rescuing sinners and depopulating hellfire.

Its operation 2 billion souls for heaven, not even the devil and all the host of hell can stop this movement.
ALL THIS AND MANY MORE ARE FROM OFFERINGS AND TITHES COMING INTO THE CHURCH.

An ex-member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abraham Amuta, yesterday allegedly turned down an offer by the Boko Haram insurgents to be freed and go home. Instead, the ex-corps member reportedly told those who went to the Sambisa forest to secure his release to go back home, saying he had renounced his Christian faith.

Amuta, a native of Benue State, who was doing his one-year mandatory service in Borno State, was abducted alongside a 58-year-old man, Moses Oyeleke of Living Faith Church in Maiduguri and few others, including a schoolgirl, Ndagiliya Ibrahim Umar, on April 10, 2019.

They were abducted along Gwoza road from Maiduguri on their way to Chibok to deliver humanitarian assistance.

Seven months after his abduction by the Boko Haram fighters loyal to Abubakar Shekau, Pastor Oyeleke was released in November 2019.

A 30-year-old housewife identified as Shukurat Olufowobi, has been arrested for beating her 5-year-old stepson Azeem Olufowobi to death.

The resident of the Oshodi Oke area of Ogijo was arrested after members of the public notified the police of the incident. It was gathered that the boy was beaten with an object that gave him a skull injury that eventually resulted to his death.

The lady's husband was also accused of hurriedly taking the corpse of the little boy to Ajah in Lagos state where he was secretly buried.

Ogun state police spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident said;

Quote:“Information further revealed that the woman and her husband hurriedly took the corpse of the victim to Ajah in Lagos state where he was secretly buried.
"Upon getting the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo division chief superintendent of police, Suleman Baba Muhammed quickly mobilized his detectives to the scene where the couple who had started packing their belongings in a bid to run away from the area were promptly arrested.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman has been maltreating the victim whose mother has been separated from the father due to irreconcilable differences.
“The nurse who gave the victim first aid treatment had informed the couple of her observation and was pleaded with by the woman and her friend to lie about the cause of the death of the victim but she refused because it is against the ethics of her profession.
“The couple Ayuba Olufowobi and Shukurat Olufowobi are currently undergoing interrogation at the Ogijo divisional headquarters where they are helping the police in their investigation.”

Ogun Police commissioner, Kenneth Ebrimson has already ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY 3RD FEBRUARY.

RIGHTEOUSNESS—A GIFT OF GRACE.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21).

When you received Christ into your heart, eternal life was imparted into your spirit, and with it came righteousness. Righteousness is the nature of God that produces in you the rightness of God, and gives you right-standing with God. It’s God’s gift to you in Christ; a gift of grace delivered to you by Christ Jesus. John 1:17 says, “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”
Romans 5:17 says, “…they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.” In other words, those who take a hold of that righteousness shall reign; that is, exercise dominion in life.

So, it’s your responsibility to take a hold of your righteousness in Christ by being conscious of it! Being conscious that you’re the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus gives you boldness and confidence to pray and expect answers. It gives you mastery over the devil, his accusations, and the circumstances of life.

This is so beautiful, because it has nothing to do with your works or “performance” before God. Your righteousness is simply the result of Christ’s vicarious suffering and triumphant resurrection.

Therefore, it makes no difference how wicked or wayward you think you’ve been; it makes no difference how far you think you’ve gone away from God; all you need is to embrace His righteousness.
Accept the gift that He’s made available to you, and say, “Blessed Jesus, you’re my righteousness.

I believe you died for me and that God raised you from the dead for my justification.” Hallelujah! Remember, you didn’t ask Him before He gave you His righteousness. And His righteousness can’t be improved upon, being the righteousness of the man, Christ Jesus, the only sinless one to walk the face of the earth. Thus, we’re not going to be more righteous in heaven than we already are in Him.

So, in God’s presence, we’re at liberty; no fear, no condemnation, no inferiority! We’re free to express ourselves and to be ourselves as we worship and fellowship with Him, because we have right standing with Him. All these and more are the result of His superabundant grace; the gift of His perfect righteousness. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Blessed Father, I thank you for giving me your righteousness as a gift, thus inspiring in me the consciousness of dominion—to reign and rule as a king in life. I’m held in the grip of your grace, enjoying my regal liberty through the gift of my perfect righteousness in Christ Jesus. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY: Romans 5:20-21 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Philippians 3:7-9 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things [but] loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them [but] dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

#TALKINGSESSION

3RD FEBRUARY.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for receiving my worship, praise, and thanksgiving, sanctifying them by Your Spirit. You’re magnified in my life, and Your glory has increased in my life.

Thank You for an outstanding month of January, and for Your grace that is piloting me into the great future, You have for me.

Thank You for granting me absolute and exact knowledge of Your Word, far removed from assumptions, doubts, and uncertainties. I function by the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge in all my endeavours, and the results are evident in me.

I am a master over circumstances, for I know that the greater One lives in me. His life and nature are at work in me, in every fibre of my being, in every cell of my blood and in every bone of my body.

I am thus an overcomer, victorious and triumphant over sickness, disease, and circumstances. I am superior to the devil and the negative system of this world. Hallelujah!

I walk in absolute victory and dominion, knowing that the Father had already perfected all that concerns me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

Outrage as policemen allegedly beat female lawyer to coma in Enugu

 February 3, 2020

There is disquiet in Enugu and beyond over the alleged attack on the office of Women Aid Collective, (WACOL) by men of the Nigeria Police, Enugu Command.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident, linked to an investigation of a rape incident, left a female lawyer in coma.

She was said to have been rushed to the intensive care unit of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, where she is currently recuperating.

WACOL is a rights organization renowned for championing the rights of the vulnerable, especially the women.
Confirming the attack in a statement mailed to DAILY POST by the Head of Communication, WACOL, Mrs. Egodi Igwe, the rights group described the brutal attack as unacceptable.

The statement was signed by WACOL founder and director, Prof. Mrs. Joy Ezeilo.

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has also not been left behind in condemning the incident.

While giving details on the said attack, Ezilo said trouble had started when the policemen from the Abakpa Area Command invaded the WACOL office following a report from one Miss (Name withheld) a 21 year old lady, who alleged that she was raped by one Uchenna.”

She said following the report, “Our legal team considered her report and thought it wise that rape was such a serious criminal matter that should require Police intervention and investigation.

To that effect, one of the lawyers in our office, Ibangah Goodness Esq. took the victim to Area Command Enugu, Enugu State with a petition informing the Police of the development and requested that the matter be investigated.

She handed the victim over to them and was also present when they obtained a statement from her. At that point, it was reasonably expected that the Police had formally taken over investigation of this matter from us.

“The Police later called Ibangah Goodness Esq. requesting that she provides the victim to them as the parents of the suspect had plans of settling the issue with the victim and her family.

She told them that she had handed over the matter to them and therefore they should source the victim by themselves with the contact details she provided in her statement with them. Rather, the Area commander and some other officers at the station kept calling Ibangah Goodness Esq and trying to intimidate her and coerce her to provide the victim for settlement with the boys parent.

“To our utmost dismay, on 30th January, 2020 four Police officers from Area Command Enugu, Enugu stormed our office and still requested that our office should provide the victim for them.

The legal unit repeated to them that they had already handed over the matter to them and that they should look for the victim themselves using the contact details she provided in her statement at their office and still in their presence tried to contact the victim who said that she was on her way to the station.

These officers failed to listen but instead began entering all the rooms in the office building and when they saw Ibangah Goodness Esq. who happened to be in a meeting. They mercilessly beat up Ibangah Goodness Esq. to a state of near unconsciousness.

“They extended the beating to Miss Nneka Okwor, another member of our staff when she made to plead with them to stop beating Goodness. These police Officers took the phone of Ibangah Goodness Esq. and confiscated the phone of anyone who dared to take pictures, record or video their hideous acts.

They also destroyed some WACOL’s office doors in the process. It was such a dastardly beating that at a point Goodness ran into the office toilet to save her dear life, yet the four of them chased her like a hardened criminal into the toilet, dragged her out and continued beating this helpless and unarmed lady who was assisting the Police to curb crimes in the state. And what was her offence? She brought a lady who reported to our office to have been raped to them.

“After beating her to their satisfaction, they whisked her away to their office alongside Ezeani Esq.who was outside when the incident happened. While this was going on, the crowd of people who came to WACOL with their different matters ran away. This happened around 2pm. At Area Command the two lawyers were detained and their two phones collected from them and seized.

The officers insisted that the victim must be provided by the lawyers before they would be released.

“On getting to the station the parents of the alleged rapist and the police officers started abusing and maltreating Ibangah Goodness esq. and the other lawyer who was also with her. Ibangah Goodness told them that she was having breathing difficulty and needed her medical attention as a matter of urgency, they turned a deaf ear to her plea and continued to force her to make a statement and also produce the victim for settlement.

“Around 3:00 pm Goodness Esq. fainted and collapsed while still in custody and was not rushed to the hospital until after 20 minutes when Daniel Onyeonagu Esq. one of our Pro Bono Lawyers who saw Police reluctance to provide their own vehicle took her in his car to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Emergency Unit.

Two Police officers accompanied him in his car. Just before they got to the hospital, Goodness Ibangah Esq. became totally unconscious and lifeless. It took the timely intervention of the doctors at the hospital who used their Oxygen and other necessary medical equipment to revive her. Immediately they arrived at the hospital and before she was revived, the two police officers who had her in their custody and who accompanied Daniel Onyeonagu Esq. to the hospital thought she had died and ran way.

“They detained Ezeani Esq. who was outside the WACOL office when they were beating Goodness Esq. inside our office. She remained in their custody from around 2pm noon till 6:00pm when she was finally released after obtaining a statement from her. Up till now, they have not inquired the state of the lady who they beat up and who fainted while in their custody and who they also guarded to the hospital.

“This is the height of abuse of Police power, harassing and beating up a human rights lawyer working in an office that has set unprecedented records of assisting the Police in curbing crimes in the country. It is a mockery to an office such as ours and is totally unacceptable and must be fully investigated to bring the culprits to book.”

Meanwhile, expressing outrage over the said attack, the NBA called on the police authorities to bring all those involved to book.

Mr. Kunle Edun, National Publicity Secretary, NBA, said information available to the Association “has confirmed that the officers of the Area Command, Enugu in Enugu State that are supposed to be protecting citizens, again, took laws into their hands when they invaded, attacked and molested staff of WACOL (Women Aid Collective) at the NGO’s office in Enugu.

“WACOL, as a responsible corporate citizen and in line with its mandate, had duly reported the rape of a lady and furnished the full names of the suspects to the officers of the Area Command. The Police in an exhibition of impunity, shame and lawlessness, turned against the victim and officials of WACOL.

“We hereby call upon the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission to investigate this rogue behavior by the Police and bring all those involved to book.”

In the meantime, the police in the State have called for calm, with the commissioner of police in the State, Mr Ahmed Abdurrahman promising that discreet investigation would be carried out on the matter.

In a statement issued by the command, the CP urged all the aggrieved parties to maintain the peace, stating that investigations had commenced and that anyone found liable would face the wrath of the law.

DAILY POST also learnt that the police chief already set up an investigation panel on the matter, with the WACOL team and the police operatives involved in the said attack expected to appear.

However, as of the time of filing this report, it was unclear whether the WACOL honoured the invitation, as a source close to them earlier told our correspondent that they were more disposed to an independent team rather than a panel headed by a police man.

Insecurity Will Only Expand And Fester With Buhari

By Farooq A. Kperogi, Ph.D.

TwitterAngryfarooqkperogi

Buhari’s admission that he was surprised by the growing insecurity in the North, Senator Abaribe’s call for him to resign, and the House of Representatives’ non-binding call for Nigeria’s service chiefs to retire in light of the escalating flow of blood all over the nation recall my April 13, 2019 column titled “Why Buhari Can’t and Won’t Solve the North’s Growing Security Crisis.”

Except for the dates and a few facts, it could well have been written this week. This shows how the more things change in the Buhari regime, the more they remain the same.Enjoy:

The last few days have seen a hypocritical mass awakening to the dire existential torments the people of Nigeria’s northwest face and a dramatic diminution of Buhari’s unearned goodwill in the region.

People who had constructed Buhari as an unerring, irreproachable demigod who is worthy only of worship and unquestioned admiration have started to call him insensitive and clueless.

It took the unceasing escalation of kidnappings and the deepening and widening of the oceans of blood in the northwest for Buhari’s erstwhile unthinking worshipers to come to terms with what some of us have known and said since late 2015: that Buhari is an unfeeling wretch who is also irremediably incompetent.

For the first time since Buhari happened on the Nigerian political scene, Imams are now openly preaching against him.Northwestern Nigerian social media, which had functioned as the uncritical fortress for Buhari, is now suddenly viciously censorious of him.

Even Daily Trust that plays the role of Buhari’s comforter and afflicter of critics of his ineptitude is allowing critical articles to be published about Buhari on its pages
.

Public protesters against government, who are a rare species in the northwest, are sprouting and giving vent to muffled, reluctant, tentative but nonetheless significant anger against Buhari.

There suddenly seems to be an epiphany in the region that Buhari is an inept, uncaring fraud who scammed the people into attributing to him qualities he never possessed & would never possess in a million lifetimes.

Nevertheless, this epiphany is hypocritical and self-centered.Evidence of Buhari’s inattentiveness to & blithe unconcern with the suffering of everyday people has always been there, and some of us have called attention to it countless times.

For instance, amid the tear-jerking humanitarian disasters that the Boko Haram insurgency has inflicted on Nigeria’s northeast, Buhari never commiserated with, let alone visited, the area until he was practically blackmailed into doing so in late 2017.

Even so, he only visited soldiers stationed in Maiduguri. When the Nigerian air force bombed scores of internally displaced Boko Haram victims in the northeast in error, Buhari didn’t issue a statement to condole with the people.Nor did he visit them.

In the aftermath of unprecedented bloodletting in Taraba, Benue and other parts of central Nigeria, Buhari was insouciant. It took massive media and social media pressures to get him to visit these states.

And when he did visit the places, he exacerbated rather than lessened the crises there by his incendiary, unpresidential utterances. He even chafed at being expected to condole with victims of episodic communal deaths & used the opportunity of these visits to tout his “achievements in security.” I once called that an example of presidential dissociation from reality.

As recently as during the last presidential campaigns, when Buhari visited Zamfara, he didn’t say a word about the intensification of death and violence in the state. Instead, he incited the people to more violence.

“Let us pray for rainfall so can we grow food, eat, and then cause trouble,” he told the people of Zamfara in Hausa in February 2019. None of the newfound critics of Buhari’s callousness saw anything wrong in that at the time.

It took the concatenation of widespread kidnapping in all parts of the northwest and the unremitting intensification of bloodletting in Zamfara for erstwhile worshipers of Buhari to admit that he is a crass, cold, heartless prig.

This hypocritical moral imagination is similar to the selective outrage some people in Kano expressed when Abdullahi Ganduje rigged himself back to power while being quiet about, even complicit in, Buhari’s own daylight electoral robbery in the same Kano.

To express outrage only when we are personally affected by injustice bespeaks a defective moral conscience. When other parts of the nation were drowning in rivers of blood and Buhari, as is his wont, turned the other way, many of the people who are excoriating him for his cold detachment from the insecurity in the northwest were his fiercest defenders against critics.

That is why some people can’t help but exult in perverse satisfaction that the enablers and defenders of Buhari’s incompetence and heartlessness are today the victims of the presidential vices they defended, excused, and justified.

But to gloat over the misfortunes of the people who defended Buhari when he ignored other parts of the country when they writhed in bloodstained agony is to be indistinguishable from and morally equivalent to them.

For one, there are victims of the bloodbath in Zamfara and other parts of the northwest who detest and didn’t vote for Buhari. Even those who voted for him don’t deserve the unspeakable cruelty that is their lot today.

I admit, though, that it’s hard not to see karmic comeuppance in the kidnap of a prominent fanatical Islamic “prayer warrior” of Buhari’s second term by the name of Ahmad Sulaiman who secured his freedom after nearly two weeks of captivity and hundreds of millions of naira in ransom payment.

Nevertheless, in spite of the heightened, unexampled outrage in Buhari’s natal region over his trademark insensitivity to the total collapse of security there, he won’t do anything substantive to attenuate the horrors that threaten the very life of the people there. There are at least two reasons for this.

One, Buhari is an inherently solipsistic narcissist. In other words, he is fundamentally and unalterably self-centered. The only person Buhari cares about is Buhari. That is why he spends billions of naira of the nation’s resources to treat even his littlest ailments in London while hospitals are denuded of basic medicines and ordinary people die of easily treatable illnesses.

It is the same solipsistic narcissism that explains why he has not built a single hospital even in Abuja in the last four years he has been president.

When his son had an accident with a multimillionaire-naira motorbike, he flew him to Germany. Yet, although neither he nor his family members use the clinic at the Presidential Villa, he recently said that henceforth no one outside the immediate families of the president and the vice president should use the clinic.

It speaks to the depth of his egocentricity and perverse self-love that he would deny workers of the presidential villa use of a clinic that neither he nor his family members use.

The second reason Buhari won’t do anything about the growing insecurity in the northwest is that the perpetrators of the crimes that have held the region hostage have been identified as Fulani. Buhari, as I have pointed out in several previous columns, is a knee-jerk ethnic jingoist. He has a twisted idea of ethnic solidarity that embarrasses even many educated Fulani people.

For instance, the only time he ever visited Zamfara to intervene in the security situation there was to protect what he perceives to be the interests of Fulani herders whose cattle were reportedly being stolen by bandits. He even donned military fatigues for this expedition. Now, he really doesn’t care because the victims aren’t people he self-identifies with.

The president’s puppeteers have caused him to express faux, impotent outrage to mollify the people of the NW but the truth is that he doesn’t care. That’s why his administration’s response has been discordant at best. It said the killings in Zamfara are caused by illegal gold miners in the same breath it said they’re caused by traditional rulers.

The absurdity of these claims is the biggest proof that the government Buhari leads can’t and doesn’t want to stem the rising tide of insecurity in the northwest or anywhere else in Nigeria.

By KATO P. LADAN, Kaduna

Just as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pa Enoch Adeboye led members on a prayer walk to decry insecurity in the country, a man has been apprehended with what is suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) at the Sabon Tasha branch of the Living Faith Church, aka Winners Chapel in Kaduna.

AUTHENTIC News Daily gathered from a source at the church that this was not the first time the suspect was coming to the church, adding that just last week he came but was sent away.

A source at the church, Ekpenyong Edet, who said he is the Chief Security officer of the parish confirmed this when our correspondent visited the scene.

He informed that the suspect was monitored on a CCTV Camera, carrying the bag into the church auditorium.

He successfully gained access and was seated before he was suspected and the bag searched, only to find the explosive device.

Edet who said he was not in a position to hand out details to the press, appealed to our correspondent to wait to get details from the presiding pastor when the service was over.

Hr however, said the suspect had been handed over to the police and moved to the Sabon Tasha Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

An officer at the station confirmed to our correspondent that the suspect had actually been brought there, when we went to get more details, but directed us to speak to the Police Public RelationscOfficer (PPRO).

Efforts to reach the PPRO as at time of filing this report proved abortive as he failed to pick calls nor respond to message sent to his WhatsApp messenger

Shehu Sani, former Kaduna Central senator, has commended Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christain Church of God, RCCG, for the protest March against insecurity in Nigeria.

Sani said Adeboye’s protest march will give ”wings and wheels” to prayers in the country.

Sani said with the latest development, Adeboye had thrown caution away, and now facing reality.

DAILY POST had reported that Adeboye alongside his members led a massive protest against the insecurity situation across the country.

The march had commenced from the church’s National Headquarters in Ebute Metta, Lagos State.

Adeboye and his members were protesting particularly against the constant killing of Christians in the North and other parts of the country.

However, Sani, in a tweet wrote: “Pastor Adeboye finally disembarking from the fence of caution, moderation, and neutrality and leading a match against insecurity is commendable. Protest gives wings and wheels to prayers.”

Insecurity: There is war to Islamize, wipe out Christians in Nigeria – Dunamis Pastor, Enenche

 February 2, 2020

The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Pastor Paul Enenche has said that there is an ongoing war in Nigeria.

Enenche said the war is aimed at wiping out Christianity and Islamize the nation, but such would not happen.

He spoke while lamenting over the level of insecurity in the Northern part of the country which has led to the death of Lawal Andimi, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State. and some university students.

Recall that Boko Haram had abducted Andimi and later beheaded
Reacting to Andimi’s execution CAN had accused the Buhari-led federal government of colluding with Boko Haram to kill Christians.

However, Enenche while addressing his members at the church headquarters in Abuja said: “There is war in the land and its war of attrition which is a prolonged conflict that has the aim of gradually reducing the strength of those you are fighting. To reduce strength, effectiveness and weary them into submission.

“There is war in our nation, whether anybody would agree or not its a matter of either deception or wickedness but there is war. Its a war between good and evil, light and darkness, those who love life and death, love and hate, Christ and the anti-Christ. The antichrist is not permitted to work when Christians are here.

“There are those burying their heads and pretending as if nothing is happening and unfortunately there are Christians who for the purpose of salary are defending killers, for the purpose of what to eat today, for the purpose of relevance that would soon pass.”
Enenche recalled how Boko Haram insurgents had allegedly abducted and killed Andimi, a bride preparing for her wedding and a student of the University of Maiduguri.

He said: “it’s no longer news that between Christmas and today that some people have been killed in the Northeast. I heard of a lady about to get married who was abducted and eliminated. What is happening in this country is under-reported but every day for the thief and one day for the owner.

“The Chairman of the Christain Association of Nigeria in Michika, Adamawa State was abducted and decapitated this year. A young 200 level student of the University of Maiduguri was abducted and killed and his offence was that his going to school. Two other students in Mongu, Plateau State were executed. on video and somebody is saying nothing.”

The clergyman also warned those in the Southern part of the country that they are not safe, adding that the authorities have failed to ensure the security of Nigerians.

Enenche, who was visibly angry declared that Nigeria would not be Islamized under the current crop of gospel Ministers who have continued to pray for the nation. He assured Christians that the days of terrorism and those sponsoring it in Nigeria would soon be over.

“I want to tell people in the Southsouth, Southeast, Southwest that you are not safe, don’t think that because you are down there don’t let anyone deceive you. Church service can only happen when we are in a country that is safe and if you are looking to the authorities you are wasting your time.

“We have a God in heaven who will arise because we are dealing with a devil that is a permanent loser, it’s not on our watch that this nation will be Islamized that Christianity will be wiped out.

“The days of terrorism and those who support them are over forever. Nobody has a monopoly of wickedness, violence. We shall not be cowards in our nation and shall not sit and watch until we are finished like chicken.

“In some parts of the country, they formed a local vigilante and you say they can’t. You are not protecting people and you won’t let them protect themselves. Whichever way something is about to happen whichever way it goes.

The time has come when village dame guns will finish their GPMGs

Michael Nnadi, Seminarian Killed By Kidnappers - Catholic News Agency

Quote:Kidnapped Nigerian seminarian has been killed

Sokoto, Nigeria, Feb 1, 2020 / 01:51 pm (CNA).-

One of four Nigerian seminarians kidnapped last month has been killed, reportedly by his abductors. The three seminarians kidnapped along with him were released in the weeks following their kidnapping.

“With a very heavy heart, I wish to inform you that our dear son, Michael was murdered by the bandits on a date we cannot confirm. He and the wife of a doctor were arbitrarily separated from the group and killed. The Rector identified the corpse this afternoon,” Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of Sokoto, Nigeria, said in a statement released Feb. 1.

Michael Nnadi was 18 years old.

Information about the woman killed with Nnadi is not yet available.

Nnadi himself was taken by gunmen from Good Shepherd Seminary in Kaduna, around 10:30 pm on Jan. 8.

With him were Pius Kanwai, 19; Peter Umenukor, 23; and Stephen Amos, 23. The four seminarians were at the beginning of their philosophy studies.

The gunmen, disguised in military camouflage, broke through the fence surrounding the seminarians' living quarters and began shooting sporadically. They stole laptops and phones before kidnapping the four young men.

On Jan. 20, ACI Africa, CNA’s African news partner, reported that one of the abducted seminarians had been freed by his kidnappers after 10 days in captivity. That seminarian was dumped alongside the highway with extensive injuries, which are believed to have been sustained during the kidnapping. He is now receiving medical treatment.

On Friday, Jan. 31, an official at Good Shepherd Seminary announced that two more of the kidnapped seminarians had been released. At that time, it was reported that one seminary was still at large, and was presumed to remain in captivity. That seminarian was Nnadi.

In his Feb. 1 statement, Bishop Kukah said that he had to delay the announcement of Nnadi’s death slightly until his mother could be informed.

“We have broken the news to her and I will be with her,” Kukah said Feb. 1.

“The Lord knows best. Let's remain strong and pray for the repose of his soul,” Kukah added.

Nearly 270 seminarians live at Good Shepherd.

The seminary is located just off the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria Express Way. According to AFP, the area is “notorious for criminal gangs kidnapping travelers for ransom.”

Schoolgirls and staff from a boarding school located near the same highway were kidnapped in October, and were later released.

In the last year, several priests and seminarians, along with pastors from other Christian denominations, have been kidnapped in Nigeria, some for ranson, and some by Islamist militant and terrorist groups.

Church leaders have called on the government to prioritize the security of its citizens.

“The security situation in Nigeria is appalling”, Thomas Heine-Geldern, executive president of ACN International, said Jan. 13. “Criminal gangs are further exploiting the chaotic situation and making matters still worse.”

He compared the situation in Nigeria to that of Iraq prior to the Islamic State's invasion: “Already at that stage, Christians were being abducted, robbed and murdered because there was no protection by the state. This must not be allowed to happen to the Christians of Nigeria. The government must act now, before it is too late.”

For his part, Bishop Kukah urged prayer.

“Please let us be calm. May God give him eternal rest,” he wrote Feb. 1.

Funeral arrangements for Nnadi have not yet been announced.

Church shooting after a funeral leaves at least two dead and multiple people injured in Florida

Two people have been killed and two others injured in a shooting that took place after a funeral at a Florida church on Saturday, January 1.

The shooting occurred just after 2:30 pm at the conclusion of a funeral, which was held at Victory City Church in Riviera Beach.

According to Mail Online, a boy, 15, and an unidentified man were pronounced dead at the scene. A woman and a juvenile were also shot and rushed to a local hospital. They are both believed to be in a stable condition.

NBC reported that the shooter fired 13 rounds before fleeing the scene.

Tywuante D. Lupoe, the senior pastor of the Victory City Church later took to Facebook to confirm the shooting.

Quote:We solicit the prayers of the saints today as we mourn the lost of two young black men to a sensless shooting after a funeral held here at the church.

PLEASE KNOW THAT THE SHOOTING DID NOT INVOLVE ANY OF OUR CHURCH’S MEMBERS AND IT DID NOT TAKE PLACE ON CHURCH GROUNDS. IT HAPPENED ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE CHURCH.

I will update those that may be concerned as to what happened via 6:00 pm.

Thank you all for the text, calls, and inboxes. My wife and are well. Also, the saints are well. Again, let's pray for the families that lost their loved ones today.

Rapper sentenced to 99 years in prison for paying hitman to murder his mum so he could have access to her accounts

A Chicago rapper who hired a hit man to murder his own mum so that he can have access to her bank accounts and life insurance, has been sentenced to 99 years in prison.

The rising rapper, Qaw’mane Wilson AKA “Young QC” was on Friday found guilty of the murder-for-hire last year, and sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars. The gunman, Eugene Spencer, was sentenced to 100 years.

Cook County Judge Stanley Sacks who jailed the men said: “The word is ‘matricide,’ meaning murder of one’s own mother, is a big offense.

In 2012, Wilson, who was the only child of her mother hired a hitman Eugene Spencer to kill her so he could have access to her accounts.  Yolanda Holmes was shot and stabbed to death by the hitman after he was ordered by Wilson to “make sure the b*tch is dead.”

It was also revealed that Spencer drove with Wilson’s girlfriend to the rapper’s mum’s home to kill her.

He reportledly shot Ms.Holmes as she slept in her bed, then struggled with her boyfriend, knocking him unconscious, before returning to stab Holmes after a phone conversation with Wilson, who ordered him to “make sure the bitch is dead.”

Months after his mother's death, Wilson collected the money in his mother’s bank accounts amd used it to fund his extravagant lifestyle.

On another ocassion, he withdrew thousands of dollars from a bank and tossed wads of cash to a crowd of people he said were his fans. He captured the the moments in a YouTube video that was played for the jury.

Cook County Judge Stanley Sacks said during the sentencing that Holmes was a devoted mother who gave her son anything he wanted.

“Whatever he wanted, his mother gave to him. A car. A job. One could say he was spoiled.“She gave Qaw’mane life, and it was his choice to take it way from her,” Judge Sacks told the court yesterday.

When asked if he had anything to say before Sacks made his ruling, He said" “I just want to say, nobody loved my mother more than me,” he said. “She was all I had. That’s it.”

Pamela Anderson and Jon Peters split after being married for 12 days

52-year-old Pamela Anderson and her 74-year-old husband Jon Peters, have gone their separate ways after being married for just 12 days.

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) shared news of the couple's abrupt split barely two weeks after it reported their secret nuptials earlier this month in Malibu, California which was attended by members of their family including her sons with ex Tommy Lee, Brandon and Dylan, along with Jon’s daughters and his ex-wife.

The actress in a statement which confirmed their split, asked for ‘support’ from fans. It read;

Quote:“I have been moved by the warm reception to Jon and my union. We would be very grateful for your support as we take some time apart to re-evaluate what we want from life and from one another.
"Life is a journey and love is a process. With that universal truth in mind, we have mutually decided to put off the formalization of our marriage certificate and put our faith in the process. Thank you for respecting our privacy."

A source close to couple told Fox News;

Quote:“She’s known Jon forever, but she never lived with him, contrary to some reports. And until you live with someone... Well, let’s just say Pamela asked for a break. She is heading back to her compound in Ladysmith, Canada, to be with her family.”

An Insider also told Hollywood Life;

Quote:“Pamela asked for a break to think about this a little more."

The couple who have been married 4 times to different partners, did not have an official marriage license.

While the nuptials seemed sudden, Pamela and Jon dated back in the 1980s when she first moved to Los Angeles from her native British Columbia, Canada, connecting at Hugh Hefner‘s Playboy Mansion. Jon and Pamela remained close friends over the years, and lived near each other in the Malibu area.

CAN Prayer Walk: Pastor Adeboye Leads Protest Against Insecurity (Photos)
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-02-2020, 02:14 PM - Replies (3)

Quote:In a bid to end incessant killings in the country, the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, is expected to lead members of the church in a prayer walk today.

The prayer walk is expected to start at about 10 a.m. and the general overseer and other leaders of the church are expected to lead the procession from the church’s national headquarters in Ebute-Meta, Lagos State.

Adeboye had previously directed all members of the church to participate in the prayer and fasting programme as well as the prayer walk declared by the Christian Association of Nigeria to address a spate of killings across the country.

CAN President, Dr Samson Ayokunle, had announced that the prayer and fasting session which started on Friday was aimed at praying to God to end the killing of innocent Nigerians and give the government the capacity to overcome the criminals troubling the nation.

The association’s position came barely four days after Boko Haram executes the Chairman of CAN in Michika Local Government, Adamawa State, Pastor Lawan Andimi, who was abducted by the insurgents on January 3 and subsequently killed despite being offered a N50m ransom.

Ayokunle had announced that apart from the three-day prayer session, Christians would also embark on what he called a special prayer walk in all states on February 2.

Adeboye, in a memo dated January 29 and signed by the Assistant General Overseer, Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, asked members to seize the opportunity of the programme to pray against the killing of innocent people in the country.

He also directed that church services should end early in all the parishes to enable members to take part in the walk which he said should hold within the immediate environment of the churches.

The memo read, “The Christian Association of Nigeria, the umbrella body of all Christians and Christian organisations in Nigeria, has made a clarion call for prayers and advocacy to all Christians in Nigeria in response to the inhuman acts against Christians in the country.

“The General Overseer has therefore directed that all members of the RCCG should participate in this prayer and advocacy with details as stated below;

“Prayer and fasting scheduled from January 31 to February 2, 2020. Since RCCG is currently on a fasting and praying programme, the prayer focus within this period should be against the gruesome killing of innocent people in the country and prayer for the government to develop the capacity to overcome the criminals troubling the nation.

“All parishes of RCCG are enjoined to close the thanksgiving service early on Sunday (latest by 11 am) and have members march around their immediate environment, praying for God’s intervention in the ongoing situation in Nigeria.

“Parishes with functional social media handles are enjoined to publicise this prayer and advocacy using appropriate captions and hashtags.”

Ayokunle had, while announcing the prayer and fasting programme, claimed that Christians had become endangered species in Nigeria.

Apart from the case of Andimi, he also cited the case of Rev Denis Bagauri, who was murdered by gunmen in his residence at Mayo Belwa, Adamawa State, and the beheading of 11 Christians, including a bride-to-be, by Islamic State in West Africa on Christmas Day in Maiduguri to buttress his point that Christians are mostly targets of the attacks.

He also mentioned the case of four seminarians of the Good Shepherd Catholic Seminary in Kakau who were kidnapped along Kaduna-Abuja Road recently.

He had said, “The CAN leadership has declared January 31 to February 2, 2020, as days for special fasting and prayer for Nigeria in all churches, home and abroad, for the gruesome killing of innocent Nigerians to stop and for our government to develop the capacity to overcome the criminals troubling the nation.

“February 2, 2020, is declared a special prayer walk by Christians in all the states in the form of a procession to be led by state CAN chairmen in their secretariats and pastors of churches in all churches in Nigeria.

“Churches should walk around their area, pray for God’s permanent intervention and help from all over the world so that all of us might not be consumed one by one.

“It appears our government is completely overwhelmed. The brutality of Nigerians is happening unabated daily.

“All bloc leaders, zonal and states chairmen, leaders of denominations and all Christians and concerned Nigerians should support and come out en-mass for the programme.

“The church is matching on and the gate of hell shall not prevail against it!”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY 2ND FEBRUARY.

BEING BORN AGAIN

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever (1 Peter 1:23).

When you understand what it is to be born again, it’ll put springs in your steps. To be born again is to have the very nature of God in your spirit; it is to have the active life of Christ in every fibre of your being in your spirit, soul and body.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Recall the words of the Lord Jesus in John 3:3, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Then in verses 6 and 7, He said, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”

Until, and unless a man is born again, what he has is the depraved, fallen human life which is susceptible to sin, defeat, sickness, disease and death. But at the New Birth, the human life is supplanted by Gods divine nature. What great honour to become partakers of His life, carriers of His glory, dispensers of His grace and the expression of His righteousness! We have become sons of God (1 John 3:2), now that were born again.

We've become God's begotten children just like Jesus. James 1:8 says, “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” Jesus is the head of this new species, being the head of the body, the Church.

He's the first to be born again, among a special race of super-beings. 1 Peter 2:9 says, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light This is who you are now that youre born again. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I'm Gods dwelling place; He moves in and through me; He talks and blesses through me. I'm a conveyor of eternal verities and a partaker of the divine nature. I have the ability to effect changes in my world, because I'm born again and the greater One lives in me. Glory to God!

#TALKINGSESSION

2ND FEBRUARY.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the visions of the great future that You have for me. My heart is flooded with light to see, comprehend, and apprehend my glorious destiny in Christ.

I follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as He unveils His plans and strategies to me in executing the ideas You give me for success in life and ministry.

I rejoice at Your Word, which guides and sets me on course for greatness, success, and glory! The eyes of my understanding are enlightened, and my path illumined to know and walk in Your perfect will always.

I am making progress and moving forward consistently by the Holy Ghost! My path is as a shining light, shining brighter and brighter unto the perfect day!

Every step I take is a step of blessings; progress, prosperity, success, and greatness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

God bless you

The wife of a Kaduna-based doctor, Philip Ataga has been found dead barely 7 days after she was kidnapped alongside her two kids.

The deceased who was abducted after gunmen broke into their home at Juji community in Chikun local government area of the state, was reportedly killed over the failure of her husband to pay a N150m ransom.

Speaking to The Cable, a source close to the family said;

Quote:“The bandits killed Mrs. Ataga, dumped her corpse and called her husband and directed him to pick the corpse at a particular location.
“Her corpse was picked and deposited at the mortuary at the Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, Kaduna. After killing her, the bandits made a demand of N20 million ransom for the release the children.”

Though the current state of the Kaduna-based doctor's children is still unknown, the State's Police Spokesperson, DSP Yakubu Sabo told Channels TV that the woman’s bullet-ridden body was found inside a bush in Kakau area along Abuja- Kaduna highway.

While a manhunt has been launched to arrest the kidnappers, corpse of the deceased has been evacuated and deposited in a mortuary.
