Ghanaian lady, 'Queen of Dicks' allegedly used for rituals

A Ghanaian lady popularly known as "Hajia Pussy or Queen of Dicks," has been found dead after her friends went in search of her. 
 
It is speculated that the Ghanaian lady who is popular on Snapchat for her flashy lifestyle, was used for rituals by suspected internet fraudsters.

Friends close to the deceased, alleged that she had been crying over a severe headache since December 2019. According to reports, the lady who believed she was used for rituals by one of her clients, visited spiritualists for help after hospitals she visited could not help. She was however found dead in her room on January 26. 
 
Friends of the deceased have already taken to social media to pen down tributes to her. Here are some below;

A Nigerian mother is being slammed online after photos showing the injury her little son suffered after she poured hot water on him for spending her money on biscuits without her permission, surfaced online.
 
The photos were shared by activist, Harrison Gwamnishu

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva that revealed this in an interview with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), said that although the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) had made several trips to the National Assembly without translating into law, this year shall be its last trip to the federal lawmakers.

He based his hope in the passage of the bill on the renewed relationship between the legislature and the executive.

The video clip of his interview which The Nation obtained on Wednesday, noted that the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery will commence in the first quarter of 2020.

Also slated for commencement this year, according to him, is the construction of the Ajaokuta, Kaduna and Kano gas pipeline project.

The project, which is expected to take gas from the Niger Delta to Kano, is also targeted at feeding the industries in the area with gas.

He lamented that Nigeria is a very rich gas country, yet it has the lowest Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) penetration in the world. The minister said that the government is working to ensure LPG penetration this year.

Besides, he revealed that Nigeria has never looked for gas except the one it found from oil production. Now, according to him, the federal government is to begin gas exploration.

His words: “The gas sector will definitely grow. Nigeria is described as a gas territory with oil in it. Unfortunately, we have not taken advantage of our gas resources. All the gas we have found in Nigeria has been found while looking for oil not looking for gas. “We are going to have some targeted exploration for gas. And we also want the people of Nigeria to have an alternative to PMS. We want to see how gas can be converted to CNG.

“And also we are trying to improve the LPG penetration. Unfortunately, Nigeria has the lowest LPG penetration in the world. We are very rich in gas. This year we are going to focus on this area.”

Stressing that most nations are now exiting fossil fuel for renewable energy as gas, he confirmed that Nigeria was still far from joining the race for renewable energy utilization.

Meanwhile, the minister said that at the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Nigeria was able to add its voice to the global discussion of transition to renewable energy.

He said that “Gas is a lesser source of carbon emission and we have abundant gas resource. So also the world has to take us into account of its discussion in the transition to renewables. It is also in those kinds of forum that you can put our point of view forward.”

Asked to state what he has achieved so far in office as a minister, Sylva said that he is already in the process of rejigging the PIB.

He noted that the sector under his watch has been able to pass the Deep Offshore Amendment Bill.

He added that “We have also been able to superintendent over the discovery of oil in the North East. The evaluation is ongoing but oil has been discovered in the North East. We have been able to take FID on Train 7.

These are what have happened and we are very ready to move on this year.”

A relative has gone online to show the injury inflicted on her sister's child by the house help.
 
In a photo shared on Facebook, the child is seen with a bandage on her head and blood stains on her school uniform.
 
The Facebook user who shared the story said the child is just 2. She had returned from school and was still in her school uniform when the maid pushed her and she hit her head on the sharp edge of a wall, splitting her scalp.
 
The girl bled so much and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment and an X-ray.

A misunderstanding between a Fulani herdsman and one Joshua Igbashiro, has reportedly left a resident of Edo State dead and some of the state's police officers injured. 
 
A statement released by the Edo State Police Command revealed that the herder suddenly shot at the deceased who spoke Hausa and tried mediating in the heated argument between him and Igbashiro, before fleeing the scene of the incident. 
 
When a complaint was made and policemen from Ekiadolor police divisional headquarters in Benin were mobilized to effect the arrest of the herder who escaped, they were ambushed by some herdsmen with AK 47 rifles. 
 
The statement partly read; 
 

Quote:“Thereafter, the Divisional Police Officer, Ekiadolor division detailed Police operatives led by the District Officer (Owan Police Station), ASP Okodomi, with 11 men from the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and the village hunters, to the community for the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the gun.

“Unfortunately while the team of policemen were on board in a boat to cross over Ofe River heading to Ofutebe Community near Owan community in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, some suspected herdsmen with AK 47 riffles, ambushed them, fired sporadically at them and in the process ASP Monday Ogeide and the complainant were shot on their hands, while Inspector Ogundele Sunday was not seen immediately after the attack.

“Consequently, the Command receiving the report of the incident, mobilized a back-up team who rescued ASP Monday Ogeide and the complainant and rushed them to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

“This time, the whereabouts of Inspector Ogundele Sunday was still unknown. Efforts were put in place to rescue him, recover his riffle and also to effect the arrest of the suspects,” the statement said.

"On the 28th day of January, 2020, a search party led by CSP Abdullahi Wase, the Divisional Police Officer, Ekiadolor divisional headquarters, in collaboration with the vigilant group and the hunters were dispatched to the scene of crime in search of Inspector Ogundele Sunday.

“After a rigorous and diligent search, the officer was sighted on Ofe River, inside a boat and he was rescued alive with his riffle. He was immediately taken to the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.”
 

Edo State's Police Spokesperson, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor revealed that the police has launched a manhunt to arrest the herdsmen and charge them to court accordingly.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY 30TH JANUARY.


BORN FREE—INTO GOD’S PRESENCE

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36 NIV).


Many don’t realize that the statement above by Jesus wasn’t to Christians; the Christian wasn’t set free or isn’t going to be set free. Set free from what or from who exactly? The Christian is a new creation; he came from the resurrection of Jesus Christ; therefore, he has the resurrection life. He was born-free, into righteousness and the presence of God. Hallelujah! 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

However, due to ignorance of the Word, some Christians still have a “deliverance mentality”—the mentality of always wanting to be set free from one bondage or the other; but the Christian doesn’t require “deliverance.” Understand this: The whole world has been saved and delivered by Jesus Christ through His vicarious death. When He died, He died for everybody. When God raised Him from the dead, He was raised for everybody. But that’s the legality of salvation.

Salvation only becomes a vital experience in the life of the one who, in accordance to Romans 10:9, proclaims the Lordship of Jesus. At that moment, he or she is born again and translated into the Kingdom of light, with the human life supplanted by the life and nature of God. That’s who the Christian is. He’s born anew without sin, without a past, into the presence of God! God literally gave birth to you, through the Word.

James 1:18 says, “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth….” 1 Peter 1:23 says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.” This is the reality! You’re superior to Satan and could never be in bondage to him because you have the life of the Word. Therefore, live in God’s Word and enjoy your life in Him, and be all that He’s called you to be. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the joy of being born into the liberty of the Spirit to serve you unreservedly, without any form of restrictions, limitations or fear. I boldly exercise the authority you’ve given me over Satan and all the powers of the enemy. Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for giving me Your Word, a material to build my life with, and usher myself into higher levels of glory, promotions, victories, and success.

As I meditate on the Word, Your wisdom exudes from me, and Your grace causes me to be fruitful and productive in all things, and function excellently. Today, I declare that the Lord is the strength of my life; therefore, there's no room for weakness in me.

I am sufficient in Christ's sufficiency, and nothing is impossible to me. The Lord has set me on high; Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in His dwelling! Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for He's my shield and eternal protection.

Halleluiah! I am filled with the knowledge of God's Word in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Nothing is a mystery to me, because as I stay with the Word, the Holy Spirit unveils spiritual realities to me, enlightening the eyes of my understanding to know and apprehend my inheritance in Christ!

A strange sickness has reportedly killed four persons in Obi Local Government area of Benue State.

The strange sickness, according to the President elect, Igede National Youth Council, Andyson Iji Egbodo is currently ravaging Oye-Obi community, a boundary settlement between Benue and Cross River States.

Egbodo in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday evening said the sickness has so far killed four persons including Happiness Ogbu, Onah Ogbedu, Andy Edu and Wisdom Agwo within the last two weeks.

He said all four victims developed the same symptoms of Headache, Internal heat, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Stomach ache, Weakness of the body and swollen stomach and died alike.

“Our investigation revealed the health authorities in Oju have been briefed. Igede National Youth Council is calling on the Benue State government to as a matter of urgency do all within its powers to arrest the situation.

“We are not resting on our part in the area of mass mobilization and awareness campaign on how to prevent its spread.

“Our investigation reveals that about six more persons as at today, Wednesday, 29 January, 2020 are already down developing the same symptoms, some of them have already been moved to General Hospital, Oju,” he said.

The President elect therefore calles on all members of the state assembly, national assembly, government appointees from Igede kingdom either with Benue State or Federal government to as a matter of urgency to do all in their power to fight the dreaded sickness whose name we are yet to get from medical experts.

Confirming the outbreak, Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr. Sunday Ongbabo said the state government was already aware if the strange sickness and had promptly mobilized focal persons to the area to investigate and ascertain the nature of the sickness.

“Yes, we are aware of the strange disease killing people in Obi local government area of the state. We have sent our focal person there to investigate the situation and ascertain the nature of the endemic.

“We have declared state of emergency on those kinds of strange diseases in the state. We have also put surveillance to track down all the diseases and see how we can treat them.

The Health Commissioner who disclosed that three persons have been confirmed dead from the strange illness said the state was already in touch with national disease control Abuja and World Health Organisation (WHO) to come to its aid especially in terms of identifying the disease and protect others from contacting it.

“We are just suspecting what is happening there because we have not actually tested the people to know the actual thing that is killing them.

“We are trying to curtail it to avoid it spreading. So far, three persons have been confirmed dead from the strange sickness,” Ongbabo said.

David Umahi, the Chairman of South East Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State has announced that the South-East will soon be getting its own security outfit just like the South-West's Amotekun. 
 
The Ebonyi State Governor who disclosed this on Wednesday January 29, during a familiarization courtesy visit by the General Officer commanding 82 Army Division Enugu, GOC Lasisi Adegboye, said they've already "written to federal government and are putting things together".

“I am happy that the police, the army, the SSS, they are not ashamed to proclaim that our Neighbouhood Security Watch have done very well. And so, we can say that we are the safest state in the country and there is no joke about that."

Man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his 17 year old niece

A federal high court in Abuja on Tuesday January 28, handed a life sentence to a 37-year-old man found guilty of raping his 17-year-old niece. 
 
The convict identified as Francis Yusuf Kyamang, was arrested by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on 13th September 2019, following the completion of the agency's investigation into the incident. 
 
NAPTIP's spokesperson,  Stella Nezan said the suspect raped his niece after he questioned her on being a virgin. He reportedly flogged her after using a cloth to cover her mouth when she cried out to get help from their neighbours. 
 
The statement read; 
 

Quote:“It was an end of the road for an Abuja based Public Servant, Mr. Francis Yusuf Kyamang of SS Quarters, Jikwoyi, as a Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Jabi, has sentenced him to life imprisonment for raping his wife’s niece and further assaulted the victim after the abominable act.

“The latest development came on the heels of the conviction of another four human traffickers by a Federal High Court siting in Enugu for trafficking of minors for labour exploitation and other hazardous activities.

“Report indicated that the victim, a 17year old Secondary School leaver, was hired by the wife of the convict to temporarily assist in taking care of her baby having gained admission to one of the Universities in Kaduna.

“In her testimony, the victim said on the fateful day, she dropped her niece in school, got back home and met her uncle (the Convict) at home which she found to be strange. Her uncle (the convict), asked her series of questions regarding her NECO exams which she answered.

He further went ahead to ask if she had a boyfriend in the village. The victim said she does but they are just friends and the uncle asked if she was still a virgin whom she confirmed to him she was. Next, he grabbed her, unzipped her dress and forcefully penetrated her virginal.

“All her efforts to scream and alert neighbours were abortive as he used a cloth to cover her mouth. After raping her, he later flogged her and locked her up in the house. The medical report also showed that she was limping and her hymen had been tampered with.

“In her reaction, Director General of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah – Donli, who commended the Judge for the brilliant judgment delivered in the case also hailed the legal team of the Agency for the diligent prosecution of the case.
“I am particularly happy that justice has been adequately served in this matter. This will serve as a deterrent to other persons and potential rapists who take delight in defiling our children. Like I said recently, this year will be hot for rapists and human traffickers in the Country.
“We cannot afford to fold our hands while some unscrupulous persons continue to jeopardize the future of our children. They deserve protection and care rather sexual harassment.
“I specially appreciate the collaboration of all stakeholders in this case. With this development, his name will automatically feature in the newly launched Sexual Offender Register."

FG set to receive fresh $321m Abacha loot from Island of Jersey

The Federal Government says it has concluded plans to repatriate another $321million Abacha loot in a tripartite understanding between the Island of Jersey, the United States of America and Nigeria.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who made this known to newsmen, said the repatriation agreement would be signed sometime nextweek. He said the decision was taken at the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the President Buhari today Wednesday January 29th.

 
Malami said based on the Memorandum of Understanding reached by the three parties, the repatriated loot would be used to finance key projects such as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the 2nd Niger Bridge and the Kadu-Kano Expressway.
 
The Minister also disclosed that €6.8m traced to convicted former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, would also be repatriated but said negotiations had yet to start on the Ibori loot. Recall that in 2012, a UK court sentenced Ibori who was governor from 1999 to 2007, to prison after convicting him of fraud and money laundering. 
 
The Minsiter also mentioned that discussions would soon start on looted assets linked to embattled former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dezieni Alison-Madueke.

Members of the House of Representatives today passed a vote of no confidence on all the service chiefs, asking them to either resign their positions immediately or be sacked by President Buhari.
 
The lawmakers made the call during its plenary in Abuja today January 29th.
 
While debating on the nation’s rising insecurity, a member of the House, Abubakar Fulata, informed his colleagues that the service chiefs had outlived their usefulness and that it will be to the detriment of the country if these men keep doing the same thing repeatedly and expect a different result in tackling the security challenges Nigeria is grappling with.
 
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, thereafter put the question to the lawmakers whether the service chiefs should resign and leave their offices or be sacked. Although there was a divide among the members in their response, majority of the lawmakers answered in the affirmative and the resolution was passed.
 
The service chiefs include the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Naval Staff, and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar. They were appointed in July 2015.

A 33-year-old landlord, Stanley Ejike Awam, has been arrested for allegedly harbouring suspected internet fraudsters.
 
Stanley and 10 other suspected ‘Yahoo Boys’ were arrested by EFCC operatives today at different locations of the Ibadan metropolis following actionable intelligence on their alleged illegal activities.
 
A statement released by EFCC spokesperson, Tony Orilade reads in part
 

Quote:“For men of the commission who carried out the arrest, it was a daunting task locating Stanley’s six-flat property tucked inside an isolated environment around Ologuneru area of the Oyo State capital.”
 
He revealed that nine suspects, including Stanley, were arrested at the premises in Ibadan. Others are Henry Echefu, Usman Mustapha, Adeleke David, Olafuyi Josiah, Shorefire Ayokunmi, Riliwan Ajao, Abulsalam Abubakar and Lukman Salam.
 
Orilade said investigations is still ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court in due time.

WWE stars, Nikki and Brie Bella have revealed they are both pregnant and they are due only a week and a half apart.
 
In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, the twins, both 36, said: “Wait, twins being pregnant at the same time?” Brie says. “People are going to think that’s a joke. We both are shocked. People are going to think we planned it, but you can’t really plan pregnancy!”

“I didn’t tell Artem at this point,” Nikki adds. “I just want to do this by myself. When I came back in, and it said pregnant, I had to sit down for a second.”
 
As for Brie, she's expecting her second child with her husband, wrestling favourite Daniel Bryan. The pair already have a 2-year-old daughter named, Birdie.

“My husband and I were trying for seven or eight months, but then I felt in my heart it was a sign from God, like, ‘You guys are good with one,’ so we stopped trying,” says Brie. “When we were in France meeting Artem’s family, I felt a little off. I was irritated and uncomfortable in my body. When we got home, I took a test two days before Thanksgiving, and when I saw the positive sign, I was like, ‘Oh, s—!’ “

The pair also spoke on their pregnancy symptoms. “We have definitely felt better in our lives,” says Brie. “It’s actually crazy because we both have the same symptoms. So we’ve been super nauseous.
 
“I feel like I literally have a hangover every day and it’s crazy because I’m not going out and partying,” adds Nikki. “I’m not hitting up my usual happy hours. There’s no wine in my life. It’s like having a hangover. I think what’s been the hardest part on me is feeling this hangover every day.”
 
She continues “My eating habits have changed. I thought that, ‘Okay, I’m gonna stay healthy. I’m going to be good.’ But when it kicks in, this feeling, you only want french fries and ketchup. Vegetables sound disgusting. Anything healthy, honestly, sounds disgusting.”

“…If you want to treat an issue, you go to the head. We did not appoint the IG or the security chiefs. We will go to the president and ask him to resign,” the lawmaker said.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, interrupted the lawmaker and asked him to focus on how to tackle insecurity.

“Nigerians voted APC because they promised to tackle insecurity but they have failed…,” Mr Abaribe, a member of the opposition PDP, continued.

Again, Mr Lawan and cautioned him against being partisan.

Nasarawa senator, Abdullahi Adamu, also stood up to condemn Mr Abaribe’s comments and demanded that he withdraw them.

The deliberations are still underway.

The lawmakers have set aside Wednesday to discuss security challenges in the country that have seen attacks by Boko Haram, kidnappers and so-called “bandits” increase, especially in the northern part of the country.

On Tuesday, Mr Buhari said he was surprised at the growing insecurity, and said his government will be “harder” on bandits.

Reuben Fasoranti, yesterday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Afenifere declared that “Amotekun is a war won in federalism,” accusing the Federal Government of complicity in the murder of Fasoranti’s daughter, Olufunke Olakunri.

The Yoruba elders expressed dismay that the Nigeria Police stopped an investigation into the death of Olakunri, who was killed last year July by gunmen along Ore/Lagos Expressway.

“We are left with no option at this stage than to conclude that she was a victim of political assassination necessitating state cover-up. We challenge the police to do their job on this matter in spite of our disappointment with them.

“We also invoke her spirit to remain restless until the killers and masterminds of her death are exposed and brought before the Temple of Justice,” they said.

While speaking with journalists, the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, affirmed that the six states in the South-west region had the constitutional backing to establish their security outfit.

“It is a battle won against the imperial Federal Government by the strong will of the west and its freedom-loving friends across Nigeria.

“The meeting rejected any attempt to subsume Amotekun under the community policing scheme of the Federal Government which is just being informants to the police.

“Amotekun should be independent in carrying out the task of providing security for residents of the South West with defined operational cooperation with the police, but not its subordinate.

“Amotekun has now come to stay and there must be no let or hindrance in the pursuit of a federal Nigeria so we can revert to the multi-level policing status of Nigeria of the past,” he said.

Odumakin flayed those that are opposed to the security outfit, saying “only carpenters posing as lawyers would ever say that security is on any exclusive list as there is no law that stops individuals from securing their premises, talk less of state actors.

“Yoruba are a homogenous group, once under a region which Nigeria broke into states. The meeting affirmed that Yoruba would find it hard to oppose Amotekun in any other part of Nigeria as Hisbah, Boko Haram and Miyetti Allah are tormenting the country.”

Odumakin, who argued further that the Nigerian Railway Corporation used to have its own police, lauded the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, for supporting federalism, especially the multi-level policing.

Afenifere lauded the South-west governors for standing firm on Yoruba consensus on Amotekun without blinking.

The elders condemned the lawlessness in Oyo State, accusing the inspector general of police of fomenting trouble over local government dissolution.

“We are miffed that the AGF is not appraised of the fact that Section 7 of the constitution which provides for the existence, administration and finance of local governments being the duty of states and not the Federal Government.

“Any pupil lawyer should know that you cannot enforce a judgment a state is not party to on it as every case is an authority for what it decides. He is forcing a judgment Oyo is not a party to on it.

“Besides, there are two cases in court on the Oyo LG crisis. The AGF and IGP should have waited for the determination of the cases before instigating the lawlessness being precipitated in Oyo State.

“We commend the state government for the maturity with which it has handled the matter and it is encouraged to continue on that line until the court decides. The FG should bury its head in shame for being agent of destabilisation once again.”

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for a warrant of arrest to enable it extradite a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dauzia Loya (Dan) Etete and two others.

The  others are Munamuna Seidougha and Amaran Joseph.


The anti-graft agency has preferred charges against the three suspects before the High Court over the $1.09billion Malabu Oil Block (OPL 245) Settlement Agreement.

The EFCC alleged that Rasky Gbinigie, Munamuna Seidougha (at large), Amaran Joseph sometime in 2013, in Abuja “dishonestly used as genuine the forged form CAC 7 and Board Resolution of Malabu Oil and Gas Limited and the letter of resignation of one Mohammed Sani, which they then knew to be forged  documents, to open a bank account No. 2018288005 to receive $401,540,000.00 .

It also said Rasky Gbinigie, Munamuna Seidougha (at large), Amaran Joseph (at large) and Dauzia Loya Etete (at large), sometime in 2013, in Abuja, “dishonestly used as genuine the forged form CAC 7 and Board Resolution of Malabu Oil and Gas Limited and the letter of resignation of one Mohammed Sani, which they then knew to be forged, documents to open a Bank Account No. 3610042472 to receive $400,540,000.00 (Four Hundred Thousand United States Dollars).

According to an ex parte application before the court by EFCC legal team, comprising Bala Sanga, Aliyu Yusuf, Offem Uket, M.S. Abubakar and H.S. Shehu, the suspects have been residing in France.

EFCC also said the suspects were occasionally sighted in different parts of Europe.


The anti-graft agency pleaded with the court to issue a warrant of arrest,  which is a pre-condition for the extradition of the suspects.

The trial judge, Justice A.I. Kutigi of the FCT High Court in Gwagwalada, has not fixed a date for the hearing of the ex parte motion.

An affidavit sworn to by an Investigating Officer, Ibrahim Ahmed said Etete and others are wanted because they are part of the brains behind  Malabu Oil and Gas Limited.

The affidavit reads in part: “That I know as a fact and I verily believe that the investigation of the Malabu Oil and Gas: Limited matter disclosed a prima facie commission of offence by the respondents among others.

“That I know  as a fact which I verily believe that our investigation has revealed the following:

“The respondents (mentioned in counts 14, 15, 16, 17 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, and 421 of Charge No: CR/151/2020 and indicated to be at large) are still at large and intelligence report indicates that they reside in France and occasionally in some other countries.

“That the respondents are part of the brains behind  Malabu Oil and Gas Limited.

“That Malabu Oil and Gas Limited are defendants in the current Charge No: CR/151/2020 and facing multiple counts of charges for forgery and use of forged documents.

“That as part of the directing minds of Malabu Oil and Gas Limited, they should stand trial and answer to charges of influencing and aiding the companies to breach extant criminal laws.

“That I was informed by the Prosecuting Counsel, Bala Sanga on the 21st day of January, 2020 that part of the requirements for the arrest and extradition of the respondents from Europe or indeed from any part of the world is the issuance of a warrant of arrest by this Honourable Court. That it will serve the interest of justice to grant this application.

The written address attached to the application gave more legal  insights into why the three suspects should be extradited.

It reads in part: “This is a motion ex parte brought pursuant to sections 3, 35, 36 and 37 of the Administration of Criminal  Justice Act, 2015 (ACJA) seeking for the issuance of a warrant of arrest against the respondents who are mentioned in Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/239/19 and indicated therein to be at large. The application is supported by an eight (8) paragraph affidavit, with one exhibit which the applicant relies on.

“The respondents are still at large and intelligence reports at the disposal of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission indicate that they currently reside in France occasionally in some other countries. The process of bringing the respondents to face before this Honourable Court requires the issuance of a warrant of arrest by this honourable court.

“The applicant respectfully submits that the facts of this case disclose an appropriate situation deserving of the exercise of the honourable court’s power against the respondents as provided under sections 3, 35, 36 and 37 of ACJA. Section 3 of ACJA provides that;

A suspect or a defendant alleged or charged with committing an offence established by an Act of the National Assembly shall be arrested, investigated, inquired into, tried or dealt with according to the provisions of this Act, except otherwise provided in this Act.

“My lord, the respondents are defendants at large. They are included in count Nos: 14, 15, 16, 17 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, and 42 of the Criminal Charge No: CR/151/2020 before this Honourable Court and indicated to be at large.

“By the provisions of section 3 of ACJA, the respondents can also be arrested (with or without a warrant) where they are even only suspects. However, in the present case, the respondents have featured in a criminal charge before this court supported by a proof of evidence disclosing a prima facie case against them.

“My lord, the combined provisions of sections 2, 3, 35 and 36 of ACJA invests this honourable court with the necessary power to issue a warrant of arrest against the respondents.

“Section 2 of the ACJA makes its provisions applicable to criminal proceedings before this honourable court. Section 35 further provides that ‘‘where under a law, there is power to arrest a suspect without warrant, a warrant for his arrest may be issued.’’

“My lord, it is unambiguous from the above provisions of the statute quoted above that this honourable court can judicially and judiciously exercise its power to issue a warrant of arrest against the respondents who are still at large.

“My lord, it is also pertinent to state that the provisions of section 37 of ACJA have been satisfied herein because this application is brought on oath by virtue of the supporting affidavit deposed by a material witness herein. We respectfully rely on the Court of Appeal decision in Fayose v. State (2010) LEPLR-8657 (CA).

“Finally, my lord, we urge this court, in the interest of justice to grant this application. The respondents have been indicated to be at large and it is only proper that the course of justice is attended to by their being brought to stand trial.

“The applicant respectfully urges this honourable court to grant this application by issuing a warrant of arrest against the respondents.”

Seven suspects allegedly using Point of Sale (POS) machines to extort unsuspecting motorists, have been arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command. 
 
The arrested suspects extorted motorists along LASU-Igando Expressway by claiming to be on contract with Ikotun-Igando Local Council Development Area in Alimosho Local Government Area. 
 
The suspects arrested after a complaint by one of their victims, were identified as Taiwo Falodun (48), Mukaila Atanda (48), Adedire Olaniyi (40), Chibuzor Eze (26), Akinseye Alex (48), Rasak Eko (50) and Aro Dotun (46).
 
They reportedly extorted one of their victims of N41,000 for reportedly not speeding on the Expressway on Thursday January 23. Their victim's vehicle which was impounded after being forced to drive to their hideout along LASU-Igando Expressway, was released on Friday January 24. 
 
When RRS stormed their hideouts, 15 cars and two commercial buses with deflated tyres were recovered.

British Airways suspends all flights to mainland China with 'immediate effect' over coronavirus

British Airways has suspended all flights to and from mainland China with 'immediate effect' over the deadly coronavirus crisis which has killed 132 people with nearly 6,000 infected already across the world.
 
The airline, which operates daily flights to Shanghai and Beijing from Heathrow, said it was halting the flights with immediate effect after the Foreign Office warned against ‘all but essential travel’ to the country because of the virus outbreak.
 
In a statement on Wednesday morning, British Airways said: ‘We have suspended all flights to and from mainland China with immediate effect following advice from the Foreign Office against all but essential travel.
 
‘We apologise to customers for the inconvenience, but the safety of our customers and crew is always our priority. ‘Customers due to travel to or from China in the coming days can find more information on ba.com.’

This comes a day after British nationals stranded in the epicentre were told to contact the embassy in Beijing by 11am if they wanted to come home, with officials claiming an airlift from Wuhan which has been under lockdown since last week was scheduled for Thursday.

 
The death toll has risen to 132 with confirmed infections surging to nearly 6,000 across the world.

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has vowed to deal with his predecessor and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole if he (Oshiomhole) continues to disrupt activities in the state and in the Edo APC.


Governor Obaseki said Oshiomhole as a Governor would not tolerate a fraction of the misdemeanour and misbehaviour he (Oshiomhole) is undertaking today.

Obaseki who spoke when he attended a meeting of the 18 APC local government Chairmen in the state said he would show Oshiomhole that he (Obaseki) is the governor of the state.

The Edo Governor said the regret of the Edo APC was the elevation of Oshiomhole without knowing the kind of a person he is.

He directed the party chairmen to seriously deal with any persons or group carrying out activities outside what the party hierarchy has agreed to do.

Governor Obaseki stated that Oshiomhole did not build the APC as there was no party structure in place when he became Governor.


According to him, “This is not a party man. Look at the dump he kept the party as a Secretariat. With all the resources we had he could not support the party until the landlord evicted us. You are Governor or chairman based on the platform that elevated you. That is why I looked for one of the most beautiful building along Airport Road and said this is the secretariat of the party.

“All these non-sense they are doing. If anybody in the name of our party tries to do anything contrary to what we have agreed as a party we will deal with that person ruthlessly no matter who he is.

“If you are elected a chairman, your attitude should show if you believe in the party. Party supremacy means the leadership of the party must respect the membership. It is the members that make the party supreme because the members subscribed to a constitution which governs the conduct of the party. One man cannot be the party.

“I am the Governor of Edo State and I so authorise it. If anyone comes to your ward or local government to do things outside what the party has agreed I hereby authorise you to deal with that person seriously.

“We are warning the suspended National Chairman. If he continues his activities in Edo State, I will show him that I am the Governor of Edo State. Why he was Governor, he will not tolerate a fraction of the misdemeanour and misbehaviour he is undertaking today. I have declared that if Oshiomhole comes here to Edo to say he wants to disrupt the activities of the state and the party we will deal with him the way we know how best to do it.

“Comrade Oshiomhole stands suspended from the party. In due course, we will expel him if he does not behave. The party does not belong to him, it belongs to all of us. We are following the wish of our people. Our next step is to make sure we convince more people to join our party so that all of us can move this state to the next level. I will give you all the support to strengthen the party at the local government. Monthly meetings must hold. Monthly wards meetings must hold. Attendance must be taken. Wherever there are issues, you sit down and discuss it.”

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Pally Iriase, described Obaseki’s comments as unfortunate and a hard one at that.

Iriase said the APC ought to be built and run on democratic principles adding that there was no room in the APC constitution for garrison tactics.

The former lawmaker stated that receiving defectors does not amount to anti-party activities.

Iriase said Obaseki should be accused of anti-party activities and they would not allow Obaseki stopped the party from growing.

His words, “Ever since we left the military, we have not seen this kind of repressive administration that gag political opinion. By now, Obaseki should be pointing out projects in my local government and several others and not this jackboot tactics.

“Obaseki has not performed. That is what he should know. In the first nine months, Obaseki earned N57bn, what he would have achieved with that amount will be obvious to the eyes and loud to the ears.

“How does growing the party and swelling its ranks become anti-party activities? We should be getting kudos. Obaseki is trying to scare people away. This jackboot democracy in Edo will not work.”

NIGERIA will require between $83billion and $85billion yearly to implement the Sustainable Develeopment Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Organisation (UNO) said on Tuesday.

Its Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Edward Kallon, who spoke in Abuja, said the Nigeria Integrated Sustainable Development Goals (ISDGs) modelling result of last year showed that total investment needed is estimated at about $350billion while the public sector gap is $100billion.


He said the focus for this year would be on scaling up investment in SDGs, capturing the benefits and making adjustments to remain on track in implementation, as the success of the country will depend on how it is done.

Kallon spoke at the Retreat for Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria at Abuja, with the theme: The Role of civil society in the decade of action to accelerate the implementation of SDGs in Nigeria.

According to him, it is 10 years to go to deliver the SDGs and kick off the reaffirmation of the 2030 promise by mobilising the government of Nigeria, the civil society, businesses, and calling on all Nigerians to make the SDG their own project.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Mrs Adejoke Adefulire, said through the retreat, there would be space for effective engagement between and the representative of CSOs with a strong national network to localise SDGs at the local levels, raise awareness and sensitise citizens on their roles in the achievement of SDGs.

TELECOMS giant, MTN Group said it has set aside $1.6billion to expand its network in the country.

Its Group President/CEO, Mr. Rob Shuter,  spoke when MTN Board led by MTN Group Chairman, Mabisi Jonas, visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.


The president urged the telco  give consumers quality services at reasonable prices.

In a statement, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said President Buhari also lauded MTN for its projects in Nigeria, which he said had been supportive of the government’s digital inclusion programme.

Buhari said Nigeria is Africa’s largest telecoms market, and MTN’s largest market. “Our hope is for operators like MTN to continue to focus on delivering quality service at reasonable prices. If we put our minds together, such win-win positions are achievable,” he said.

During a visit to Communications and Digital Economy Minister, Dr Ali Pantami earlier, Shuter said the budgeted $1.6 billion will be invested in the country over the next three years.

He added that Nigeria Investors’ shares in MTN are growing rapidly.


Reacting to the $1.6 billion  budgeted for investment in the country, Pantami expressed delight, urging the telco to invest it wisely. He said: “I am glad to hear that you have a budget of $1.6 billion you plan to invest in Nigeria in the next three years. Please, try to get your priorities right. Look at the areas that are underserved and invest and the earlier you realised that, the better for you.”


He urged the telco and others to improve the quality of services (QoS)  to satisfy their customers.

He said the Federal Government is committed to providing conducive and enabling environment for all the telcos to do their business without any hindrance in any part of the country.

He said: “I am happy that you also appreciated our modest efforts in addressing most of the challenges being faced by mobile telecommunications in Nigeria. I believe every county has its own peculiar challenge.

“We have achieved a lot in addressing most of the challenges; issues of vandalism, Right of Ways (RoW) and several others.

“We are working on strengthening the policy to ensure that telecommunications infrastructures are well protected in the country and the president has given directives to security agencies that they should provide security to critical telecommunications infrastructure in their different locations in the country.”

THE newly launched $60 million  USAID West Africa Trade and investment Hub in Nigeria will attract $300 million new Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, has said.

The hub will target interventions in agriculture five value chains wihin seven states in the country.


Seven states – Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Kebbi and Niger would be part of the hub.

The hub will focus on West African nations, including Senegal, Cote d’ Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria, with Abuja serving as the hub’s centre.

Accra, Ghana had previousely served as West Africa hub centre until the recent re-constitution in Abuja.


Leonard said the initiative also has the potential of creating 40,000 new jobs by 2025.

The initiative, she said, works on reducing the cost and risk of doing business and by so doing providing a level playing field to make investment and trade freer for everyone.


The project will work with private sector.

Eighty-six applicants have been pre-qualified out of the initiatial 125 applicants, while 63 of the applicants have been cleared for grants.

The envoy noted that the hub will administer $60 million in co-investment grant fund for the next five years, which will act as a catalyse for the $300 million new FDI.

THE Federal Government hopes to generate N20 billion in mining by the end of 2020.

It said this would be four times better than what the government made last year in the sector.


Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, said the revenue collected by Federal Mines Officers (FMO) in states is $30million  yearly, making the government’s target of N20 billion possible.

He spoke on Tuesday in Abuja during a presentation  of the ministerial committee from the mineral sector on revenue optimisation report.

Adegbite said two major mandates of the committee are to create employment and widen the revenue base of government.

The minister implored the committee to make improvements in revenue generation compared to the past and set N20 billion as target by this year end.

He said: “So, if we are able to fulfill this, we would have scored 50 per cent and that is the pass mark. Everybody can see the quantum leap from what we made this year because this year we have made N5billion which is an improvement over the past which is the highest so far, but I don’t want this increment anymore.


“Let’s look by the end of this year, we can do N20 billion. That would be four times better than what we got last year. It’s possible.

“A lot of construction is going on in Lagos. Sand is being used. So, apart from sand dredging, you can’t tell me you are making N2.5 million every month. So either somebody is not doing his work very well or something is wrong somewhere. So, I’m sure all these have been dealt with in the recommendation of this report.”

The report had said the Federal Government, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Nigerian Customs Service (NSC) is proposing to introduce pre-shipmment inspection and issuance of Clean Certificate of Inspection (CCI) on all mineral commodities due for export.

The move, the committee said, should be done by an appointed agent in line with the provisions of the Pre-shipment Inspection of Exports Act No. 10 of 1996 Cap. P25 L.F.N. 2004.

The Abia State Police Command has arrested and paraded a suspected armed robber identified as Kingsley Emezue alias Pakins alongside his gang members Enyinna Asiegbu (25) and Promise Sunday Obilor a.k.a Esere (26), for reportedly killing a couple before their three children. 
 
Abia State's Police Commissioner, Ene Okon told newsmen that the arrested suspects were connected to Sampson Iheukwumere Nwokocha a.k.a Grave, a notorious robber killed in December by the police.
 
He said the suspects who initially relocated after their gang leader was killed, returned to Umuahia in January 2020 after they thought the manhunt for them has been called off. 
 

Quote:“The gang seemed to have gone on holidays to enjoy their loots and resurfaced around January 10, 2020, in what seems like recouping of expenses made during the Yuletides. The six-man gang on January 25, 2020, operating in a tricycle, snatched a Toyota Sienna van with registration number RBC477RL, along Health Center Road in World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia.
"The gang, while operating in a Sienna van, shot and killed a couple, Mr and Mrs Darlington Chinyere Uzoma, along Secretariat Road, Ogwurube Layout, Umuahia. This was after robbing them of proceeds of the day’s sales.
"They robbed and shot Basil Okechukwu of Obowo, Imo State, on January 16, around Post Office Umuahia Road. Okechukwu was killed while on transit with the money he withdrew from bank.

"Officers from the Central Police Station, Umuahia and operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on ‘Operation Puff Adder' went after the hoodlums and intercepted a tricycle conveying two of the hoodlums named Precious Chukwuebuka Okoro and Ogbonna Ifeanyichukwu Justice. Interrogation of the duo resulted in the subsequent arrest of the other members of the gang namely; Enyinna Asiegbu (25), Promise Sunday Obilor (26) aka Esere and Emezue Kingsley (20) aka Pakins.”
 
Emezue introduced himself as a butcher when questioned by newsmen and also disclosed that he was lured into armed robbery by bad friends. 
 
He said; 
 
Quote:“We did the robbery operation actually on Saturday night, but I did not shoot the couple. It was our driver that shot them.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY 29TH JANUARY.

HIS DIVINE HEADQUARTERS.

To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).

The Holy Spirit is the embodiment of all power, and He lives in you in His fullness. He didn’t come in a measure to give you a part of Himself, contrary to the understanding that some people have. 1 Corinthians 3:16 says, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” Here, the Apostle Paul is emphatic: you’re the temple of God and the Spirit of God lives in you.


But who is this awesome, wonderful Holy Spirit that lives in you? He’s the conveyor of the presence and blessings of God. In the Old Testament, He’s called the “angel of God’s presence” (Isaiah 63:9). He’s the One that manifests God’s presence and His power wherever God wants it. Think about the fact that this awesome infinite personality of the Godhead lives in you! That makes you a God-carrying vessel; divinity’s headquarters! Hallelujah!

This means that in your life, it’s glory and excellence only, because Christ in you, is the hope of glory; the Holy Spirit in you means glory, excellence, strength, victory, joy, peace, prosperity and blessings in your life! Affirm this always, because the power of the Word of God works through knowledge and affirmation. Every so often, say aloud, “The Holy Spirit lives in me. He has vitalized every fibre of my being; He’s my life and everything I need to live joyfully always, and fulfil God’s plan for my life gloriously.” Hallelujah!


The Holy Spirit didn’t merely come upon you as He did on God’s people in the Old Testament, He came into you to make you the headquarters of His operations in the earth. He lives in you in all His glory, majesty, dominion, wisdom and strength. And through you, He blesses everything and everyone around you; He establishes the righteousness of God in the earth and in the hearts of men. Through you, He’s able to express His love, because you’re His extension in the earth; you hail from Him and are one with Him (1 Corinthians 6:17). Praise God for evermore!

PRAYER

Blessed Father, I thank you for the Holy Spirit who lives in me in His fullness, making me the headquarters of your operations in the earth. I’m conscious, and take advantage of your glorious presence in me, and declare that I fulfil my destiny in Christ, demonstrating the glory, wisdom and excellence of divinity, bearing fruits of righteousness, in Jesus’ Name. Two Nigerians arrested in Malawi for allegedly being in possession of cocaine

Two Nigerian identified as Ajagu Okwuchuku, 40, and Chinomso Charles, 31, were arrested in Lilongwe, capital of Malawi on Friday January 24 after being found to be in possession of cocaine. 
 
Okwuchuku from Anambra State and Mr Charles from Enugu State were arrested based on information given out by residents of the neighborhood they lived in. 
 
Lingadzi Police Public Relations Officer, Salome Zgambo said the suspects were found to be in possession of eight cracks of drugs suspected to be cocaine concealed in black plastic bags (jumbo).
 
She said;

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has reacted to Transparency International's recent report which ranked Nigeria 146 out of 180 corrupt countries, with a total of 26 points out of a possible 100 points.
 
In an interview with some international media organisations in London, the Minister stated that the Federal Government is not fighting corruption to impress Transparency International but to develop the country. He added that they are already winning the fight. 
 
Lai Mohammed said; 
 

Quote:“In any event, we are not fighting corruption because we want to impress any organisation. We are fighting corruption because we believed that without fighting the menace, the much-sought development will not happen and we have results to show for fighting corruption. 
“We have put in place policies and legislation that have tamed the monster called corruption. For instance, apart from the TSA which has saved us billions of Naira, we put in place transparency portal which enables every Nigerians to see how much is being spent by government every day.
“Under the transparency portal regulation, any expenditure above N5 billion must be reported and that gives every Nigerian the opportunity to know exactly what is going on.
“We will continue to fight corruption and we know that we are winning the war.”
 
On alleged selective prosecution in the anti-corruption fight, Lai Mohammed said;

The incident happened at Isheri Olofin area in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, where they reside.

According to Adenike, she met Desmond last year and they got engaged in a relationship. He gave her false hope of getting married to her and she allowed him to sleep with her severally and eventually got pregnant for him.

She said later that she realised he lied to her that his wife was late as she discovered that he was deceiving her just to be having sex with her. She revealed that during that period, she got pregnant and had to terminate it due to infection but did not know then that Desmond had a wife and children. Adenike wants the marriage to hold despite the fact that she has realised that Desmond was married with children.

However, Desmond claimed that he only touched, slept with her last year and left her. He said he was surprised when she came and forced herself into his house making demands; threatening and destroying his Lexus car. He denied ever promising her marriage or telling her that his wife was late. He said he was surprised when she came to his house forcing herself inside as wife and demanding for money. He said that Adenike’s action by invading his house has affected his marriage seriously because his wife had seen and heard what transpired between him and Adenike.

The action has landed Adenike in trouble as her conduct and malicious damage were reported at Idimu Police Division; she was arrested and detained at the Police Station for interrogation.

After interrogation, she was found culpable and was later charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence. She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 4th March, 2020.

While she was being taken to prison, Adenike insisted that Desmond must continue with the relationship when she is released from prison.

A suspected internet scammer, Damilola Ahmed Adeyeri and his mother, Alaba Kareem Adeyeri, have been convicted on a four-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of $82, 570, about N29.9million.
 
PM news reports that Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, convicted the woman and her son and sentenced them to three years each in a correctional centre.

The judge found them guilty on all counts. But the sentences for each count would run concurrently. Justice Aneke further ordered that all the properties and monies recovered from the convicts be forfeited to the Federal Government and upon applications by the victims, restitution be made to them.
 
The convicts were arrested following a petition from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) against Damilola Adeyeri and others now at large on an alleged case of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretence, money laundering and computer-related fraud.
 
Armed with the petition, the operatives of the Commission immediately swung into action and upon investigations found out that his mother was an accomplice in the crime.

Idi Musa, an investigator with the EFCC, while being led in evidence narrated to the court that sometime in April 2019, that the Commission received a petition from the FBI, alleging that the official email address of American Cranes Manufacturing company was hacked and as a result the sum of $82, 570. 00 was stolen by the fraudsters. He told the court that the petitioner reported that there was a syndicate of fraudsters who defrauded many companies through business email compromise and obtained millions of dollars from American citizens.
 
Idi further revealed that Damilola was arrested on September 6, 2019, after which his mother was apprehended when she went to withdraw money from the bank upon hearing that EFCC was investigating her son. He said Damilola’s mother bought properties in the name of her son with the money made from the fraud.
 
He also told the court that the sums stolen by the convicts were used to acquire properties in choice areas of Lagos, and some cash were found in their accounts.
 
One of the count reads:

Quote:“that you, Damilola Ahmed Adeyeri, Alaba Kareem Adeyeri and Karen Russell (still at large) sometime on the 21st day of June 2017, in Lagos within the jurisdiction of the court conspired to fraudulently impersonate the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American Cranes Manufacturing Company with intent to gain monetary advantage in the sum of $82, 570. 00 (Eighty Two Thousand Five Hundred and Seventy US Dollars) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27 (1) (b) and 22 (3) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition Prevention etc) ACT, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (1) of the same Act.”
Another count reads:
Quote:“That you Damilola Ahmed Adeyeri, Alaba Kareem Adeyeri and Karen Russell (still at large), sometime on the 19th day of July 2017, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this court dishonestly represented yourself as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American Cranes Manufacturing Company thereafter you sent an email from personal@managements-securemail-office-portal.online with intent to gain advantage to yourselves and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27 (1) (a) and 22 (3) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition Prevention etc) ACT, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (1) of the same Act”.
 
After the charges were read to the convicts, they pleaded guilty to the four-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences.

No fewer than 15 persons died while 38 others sustained varying degrees of injuries as a Toyota Canter truck plunged into dried Omi river on the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode road.
 
Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Tuesday, said that the accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, adding that it involved a white-coloured Mitsubishi Canter, marked XE 331 MKA, loaded with passengers travelling from Sokoto state.

The sector commander added that the suspected cause of the crash was fatigue on the part of the driver, saying that the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the dried Omi river.
 
Oladele, who said that rescue operations was still ongoing, explained that 15 corpses, all male adults, had been recovered from under the river bridge.
“So far, 38 passengers in the mini truck sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to the State Hospital, Ijebu Ode for treatment,” he said.

The sector commander said that the corpses of the dead had been evacuated to Sabo in Ijebu-Ode, with the Sarkin Hausawa making arrangements with the police for their mass burial.
 
He advised passengers to desist from boarding ”Goods-Only” vehicle which, by their configuration, were not for transporting passengers but only goods.
 
Oladele advised the families of the victims to contact the FRSC command in Ago-Iwoye or Ijebu-Ode for details about the crash.

The Oyo State Command of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have arrested a couple who allegedly tied their 10-year-old daughter Abibat, to a ceiling, burning her private part for stealing the sum of N3,000.
 
The father of the girl, Taofeek Olawale 41, an indigene of Ede, Osun State, said he was only trying to scare her with the fire as deterrence when the fire burnt her private part.
 
Parading the suspect and his wife, Romoke, on Monday in Ibadan, the commandant of the (NSCDC), Isikilu Akinsanya  told journalists that the arrest was part of the responsibility of the Anti-human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit of the NSCDC to save and protect the lives and property of Nigerians, as enshrined in the 2003 Act, amended 2007.
 
The Commandant, who was represented at the press conference by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluwole Olusegun, alleged that Olawale, a carpenter residing in the Amuloko area of Ibadan and his wife tortured their daughter, Abibat, by tying the girl’s hand to the ceiling and putting fire under her until she confessed to the accusation of stealing N3,000 belonging to a neighbour, Rukayat Trimisiyu.
 
He further said that in the search for the money, the sum of N600 was found in Abibat’s bag, and the girl later brought the remaining N2,400 from where it was hidden in the house.
 
The NSCDC boss said Abibat was still recovering in the hospital from damage she suffered from the burns her father inflicted on her.
 
Olawale told journalists he was only attempting to scare his daughter and teach her some morals.
“It is the devil that is at work,” he said.
 
Romoke dissociated herself from the assault, saying she divorced from Olawale seven years ago and was somewhere else when she heard about the incident.

The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan has raised an alarm over the insecurity witnessed across the country which has led to loss of lives and properties. 
 
Speaking at Tuesday’s plenary at the Senate chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja, Lawan reiterated the need for lives and properties to be secured in the country as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution. 
 
He said; 
 

Quote:“My distinguished colleagues, the security situation in our country requires serious attention and due consideration by the Senate and indeed the National Assembly. 

“Recently, the security in the country has deteriorated and the attendant loss of lives is not acceptable.
“We need to secure the lives and property of our citizens, as enshrined in our Constitution. We all are witnesses to how our economy is also affected by the inclement security situation.”
 
In his welcome speech after the lawmakers resumed from their six-week recess, the Senate President disclosed that they are working to engage the Federal Government on the implementation of the nation’s security strategy.
 
He added that they will also be working towards implementation of community policing and will also be inviting police authorities to give periodic updates. 
 
He said; 
 
Quote:“There is an urgent need for a paradigm shift and reform of the architecture and structure of our security systems. Equally important is citizen participation, and collaboration in providing security.”
“In this regard, the Senate will engage the Executive arm of government to discuss the implementation of the recently launched National Security Strategy (NSS) 2019.”
 
On Power he said; 
 
Quote: “My distinguished colleagues, it is an incontrovertible fact that the power sector cannot function optimally and thrive under the current circumstances.

“The anticipated outcome of improvement in effectiveness and efficiency of the privatisation process has not been achieved and doesn’t look feasible. Therefore, we have to take all the necessary steps to salvage this indispensable sector.

“The ensuing debate on the report of the Roundtable Discussions will no doubt reveal the actions that the Federal Government will need to take

Two weeks after the Supreme court annulled the election of Emeka Ihedioha as the governor of Imo state and affirmed APC's Hope Uzodinma as the new governor, the Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, Collins Chiji, and seven other members of the state assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
 
Chiji who was elected on the platform of the PDP, announced his defection during plenary today January 28th.
 
He gave the names of the other defecting lawmakers as Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru); Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West); Chigozie Nwaneri(Oru East); Kanayo Onyemaechi (Owerri West); Kennedy Ibe (Obowo)’; Onyemaechi Njoku (Ihitte/Uboma), and Eddy Obinna (Aboh Mbaise) who represented Emeka Ihedioha's constituency in the Assembly.
 
Last week, the deputy Speaker of the state assembly, Okey Onyekamma, and eight other lawmakers defected to the APC.

President Buhari's spokesperson, Femi Adesina has dropped a shade for a certain "fake prophet" days after Apostle Suleman called him an "insensitive man", over his response to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on "Boko Haram killing Christians". 
 
In his tweet, the Presidential spokesperson recalled some prophecies made by the "fake prophet" which never came to pass.

NLNG signs 10 year sales deal with Eni  


Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has signed a sale and purchase agreement with an Italian oil major, Eni for some of the remarketed volumes of Liquefied Natural Gas from NLNG’s Trains 1, 2 and 3.
The agreement, which will reportedly be effective for 10 years, would help the company take up position among the top LNG companies with plans to grow its market share. The duo also signed the agreement in order to continue to deliver the LNG globally.

According to the statement released by the company and signed by its General Manager, External Relations, Eyono Fatayi-Williams, 1.5 million tonnes will be supplied per annum for the duration of the contract.


The detail of the deal showed that the product would be supplied on a delivered ex-ship and free-on-board basis. The NLNG also stated that the agreement signifies customers’ confidence in NLNG as a trusted, safe and reliable LNG supplier in the world.


What you need to know: The Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Limited is a company co-owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), representing the Federal government. which holds a 49% stake, while the other stakeholders, Shell has 25.6%, Total holds 15% and Eni accounts for 10.4%.


Recall that Nairametrics reported when the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Limited and Total Gas and Power, (TGP) sealed a Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) for some of the remarketed volumes of Liquefied Natural Gas from NLNG’s Trains 1, 2 and 3. The agreement, which was slated to be effective for 10 years, was signed by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, NLNG, Tony Attah, and the Senior Vice President at the LNG, Thomas Maurisse, on behalf of the TGP.



Also, an agreement on SPA was signed by NLNG and Vitol SA last month. The deal was also for some of the remarketed volumes from its Trains 1, 2 and 3, which approved the supply of 0.5mtpa of the LNG for a 10-year-term on a delivered ex-ship basis. The delivery will start in October 2021.

As the world awaits the reopening of the country’s land borders after the expiration of the first phase of the Joint Security Operation ‘EX-SWIFT’ Response, OLUWAKEMI DAUDA looks at the factors that aided and abetted smuggling before and after the closure and what the government needs to do to put an end to smuggling.

Nigeria’s land borders were partially closed on August 20, last year, following the Federal Government’s determination to end rice importation, boost local production and reduce smuggling of arms and ammunition, as well as hard drugs and other prohibited items.

Despite that the Federal Government is yet to reopen the country’s land borders, investigation reveals that foreign rice and other contraband commodities still flood Lagos and Ogun states’markets.


Speaking with The Nation on the plan by the Federal Government to reopen the country’s land borders by the end of the month, a member of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria in Badagry, Mr Gbolahan Adejare, said the Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), needs to lead senior members of the Service, a detachment of senior police officers and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) from Abujaon a private visit to the roads leading to Seme and Idi-Iroko borders.

Such a visit, it is believed, would enable him see how security officials inadvertently aid and abet smuggling and kill the economy of the country and its people.

Purpose-built vehicles move in and out of Lagos and Ogun markets unchallenged on the roads.

Some unpatriotic officers, Adejare alleged, are still assisting smugglers in frustrating and killing the Federal Government’s policy on local rice production by allowing purpose-built vehicles by the smugglers to ply the roads unchallenged, while vehicles that belong to law-abiding citizens are not allowed to move freely on the road by the security agents.

Many Nigerians, importers, exporters and clearing agents believe that the closure of the borders by the Federal Government, has, no doubt, reduced the amount of expired foreign rice and other prohibited goods that are brought into the country through the unapproved routes.


But findings revealed that the smugglers are still using illegal vehicles and routes to carry out their nefarious activities undisturbed and endanger the health of Nigerians.

When The Nation visited Seme and Idi-Iroko borders at the weekend, there were many checkpoints between Agbara and Seme borders and several checkpoints between the old Toll Gate at Sango and Idi-Iroko border.

Despite the checkpoints, findings revealed that the rate at which rice  and other prohibited items, such as frozen poultry products, used tyres, textile materials, used clothings, vegetable oil and others are being ferried into the markets by the drivers of the purpose- built vehicles, is alarming.

 

Wake up call to FRSC, Police

It was also gathered that the illegal activity keep flourishing with the connivance of some unscrupulous officers in Customs, Police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security agents who  turn their back and close their eyes when they see the specialised vehicles the smuggliers use in carrying out their illicit business.

Investigation revealed that the smugglers use specilised and purpose-built vehicles to carry out their nefarious activities in the wee hours of the morning, in the evening and sometimes in daylight ferrying imported pineapple, tomatoes, coconuts, rice, vegetable oil and frozen poultry products into the country.

Over 209 of such vehicles used by smugglers were seen at various spots at Mile 2, Alaba-Rago Market, Okokomaiko, Ijanikin, Agbara, Oko-Afo, Araromi Ale, Mowo, Aradagun, Ibereko, Ajara, Badagry and Seme border, when The Nation visited the area at the weekend.

The story of the converted vehicles was the same at Oshodi, Daleko, Ile-Epo Oja, Abule Egba, Alakuko, old Toll Gate, Joke-Ayo, Ojoore, Iju, Atan, Lusada, Ketu, Adie-Owe, Apena, Alapoti, Ado-Odo and up to Idi-Iroko border when The Nation visited the area last Friday.

The specially-built vehicles also littered mechanic workshops and other areas on major roads within the border towns. Their drivers operate with impunity even with the presence of security men, who mounted checkpoints along the areas.

Some motorists and residents of the border areas, stakeholders in the maritime industry and rice farmers in Badagry area of Lagos said Col. Ali (rtd) needed to visit the areas and order the convocation of all the purpose-built vehicles anywhere across Lagos and Ogun states to end the criminalities.

The visit, a rice farmer, Mr Solomon Abraham, said would enable the government to assess the poor and questionable attitude of most security agents posted to man border communities and to assist the Customs in checkmating illegal entry of prohibited goods.

Motorists, specifically, accused the Police and the FRSC officials of not doing their job diligently, despite their presence on the two major roads leading to the borders.


The high cost of rice, a resident of Ajara, Mr Gboyega Emmanuel, said might have added more impetus to the smuggling of the staple food as most of the vehicles used neither have number plates, particulars nor head lamps.

Seizure of all the purpose-built vehicles on the road

More than 10 of such vehicles, loaded with smuggled bags of rice, frozen poultry products and vegetable oil were seen discharging their goods at Lusada Market in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State at the weekend.

Motorists, community leaders and other Nigerians, who spoke with The Nation, expressed worries over the trend and the sophistication of the smugglers, adding that smuggling has assumed a frightening dimension despite the presence of military personnel on the roads.

They urged Col Ali (rtd) to direct the security agents to impound the purpose-built vehicles so that the smugglers would stop having a field day.

It was gathered that in Benin Republic, a bag of rice sells for less than N8,000, but sells for between N25,500 and N30,000, depending on the quality and size of the grain, when it gets to the country.

“Most of the purpose-built vehicles are own by security agents and that is why they cannot impound them. How do you explain a situation where an unusual vehicle laddered with prohibited items is moving on the road and the police and the FRSC officers will not arrest them?

Therefore, there is an urgent need for the Comptroller-General of Customs to visit the border towns of Seme and Idi-Iroko and see the high rate at which the purpose-built vehicles are operating with the connivance of some police officers, Customs and FRSC officials.

“One wonders what the police and the FRSC officials are doing on the roads if purpose-built vehicles that have no number plates, no particulars, no windscreens and no head lamps are plying our roads unchallenged.

“But the same unpatriotic police officers and FRSC officials that are aiding and abetting smugglers have the effrontery to stop and delay other commuters and motorists going for their legitimate businesses on the road.

“The attitude of most our security operatives along the roads leading to the land borders poses danger to lives and has negative effects on international trade and commerce,” Emmanuel said.

Other stakeholders and motorists spoke in similar vein, complaining about the police and FRSC officials’ attitude on the roads.

A clearing agent at Seme border, Festus Solomon, and other operators, wondered why it was difficult for security agents, mostly the police and the FRSC officials to impound all the purpose-built vehicles the smugglers are using to sabotage the country’s economy.

Findings have shown that some drivers have specialities in moving the illegal food item from Idi-Iroko to Sango and Lagos markets.

When our reporter contacted Gbolahan (not real name), one the drivers of these specialised vehicles, he said he was ready to bring 50 bags of foreign rice  to their store by 4.00am in the morning.

“Just mention the number of bags you need, I will make sure we bring them there on the agreed time and date. What is important is that the money must be ready,” he said.

He told our reporter that the landing cost of a bag of foreign rice is between N22,000  and N23,000 because of the number of security checks on the road.

Reduction in rice smuggling

Although the driver agreed that the border closure had reduced the flow of foreign rice into the country, it is far from addressing it, as the vehicles they use in smuggling the prohibited items still abound across Lagos major roads and Ogun State.

A Customs officer who spoke  under the condition of anonymity confirmed that smuggled goods still find their way into the country. He however disgreed this had  to do with the activities of compromised officers.

The officer said smugglers would never give up because “that is the only business they know; hence they will employ every means to remain in business’’.

“The major tactics they use is to get members of local communities to help them know where the security officials are stationed before they move their vehicles in convoy with dangerous weapons.

“Because smuggling is the only business they know, these people kill. They have killed our officers before. They engage in all sorts of things to put us out of their way,” he said.

He, however, said their use of network of informants is what has the major drawback on the operations to check their illicit trade.

Recommendation

Stakeholders, who spoke with The Nation, have recommended that the Federal Government must ensure that all the purpose-built vehicles by the smugglers are off the roads before the land borders are reopening for business.

CURRENCY-in-circulation (CIC)  has risen by 9.9 per cent to N2.2 trillion, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) quarterly economic report released on Monday has shown.

The report, which is for the fourth quarter of last year, was in contrast to the decline of 0.4 per cent in end of the third quarter of the same year. The development, relative to the level in the preceding quarter, reflected, mainly, the increase in its currency outside banks component, and seasonal factors.


The report said total deposits at the CBN amounted to N14.35 trillion at end of last November, indicating an increase of 3.6 per cent above the level at end of third quarter 2019. The rise was attributed to 14.3 per cent and 3.1 per cent increase in the deposits of the Federal Government and the commercial banks, respectively. Of the total deposits at the CBN, the shares of the Federal Government, banks and private sector deposits were 47.4 per cent, 35.9 per cent and 16.7 per cent.

Reserve money grew by five per cent to N7.35 trillion  at end of last November, in contrast to the decrease of 13.5 per cent at the end of third quarter of last year. The development reflected the increase in federal government and banks’ deposits with the CBN.


The report said total value of money market assets outstanding in the fourth quarter of last year stood at N12.76 billion, showing an increase of 2.6 per cent, compared with the increase of 2.9 per cent at the end of the third quarter of last year. The development was attributed, largely, to the 3.1 per cent increase in FGN Bonds outstanding during the review quarter.

Federally collected revenue in the fourth quarter of last year, fell below both the provisional quarterly budget and receipts in the preceding quarter by 30.8 and 10.6 per cent. The development, was due, largely, to the shortfalls in receipts from both oil and non-oil revenue components in the review quarter.

Also, provisional Federal Government retained revenue in the review quarter was N938.72 billion, while total estimated expenditure amounted to N2.07 trillion , resulting in an estimated deficit of N1.13 trillion.


Agricultural activities in the review quarter were dominated by the harvest of cash and root crops. In the livestock sub-sector farmers engaged in the fattening of cattle and stocking of poultry in anticipation of the end of the year sales. The end-period headline inflation, on year-on-year basis for the fourth quarter of 2019, stood at 11.98 per cent.

Foreign exchange inflow, through the CBN, rose by 6.1 per cent, while outflow fell by 3.9 per cent, relative to their levels in the third quarter of 2019. Total non- oil export proceeds received by banks fell by 37.8 per cent, compared with the level at the end of third quarter 2019. The average naira exchange rate vis-à- vis the US dollar depreciated at the inter-bank, BDC segment, and the Investors’ & Exporters’ Window. The average exchange rate at the ’Investors’ and ‘Exporters’ window, the BDC and the Inter-bank segments of the market were N362.83/$, N359.42/$ and N306.95/$, respectively, in the review quarter. At $38.07 billion, the gross external reserves fell by 6.4 per cent, compared with the level at end of third quarter 2019.

Vitafoam Nigeria Plc started the new business year on a double as the foam-manufacturing company doubled profit to N1.13 billion within the first three months of the year.

Vitafoam Nigeria’s share price rose by 6.0 per cent to N5.30 per share on Monday at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) as investors reacted positively to the first quarter results.

Key extracts of the interim report and accounts of Vitafoam Nigeria for the three-month period ended December 31, 2019 showed that pre-tax profit grew from N513.12 million to N1.18 billion. Profit after tax also leapt from N361.87 million to N819.67 million.


Earnings per share thus doubled to 62 kobo in first quarter ended December 2019 compared with 33 kobo recorded in comparable period of 2018. Turnover however declined from N6.38 billion to N5.98 billion.


The first quarter performance strengthened the return outlook of the group and it came on the heels on a 68 per cent increase in dividend payouts recommended by the board after the leading foam manufacturing company grew its bottom-line by 296.3 per cent in the immediate past business year.

The board of Vitafoam Nigeria has recommended payment of a dividend per share of 42 kobo or N525.35 million for the 2019 business year as against 25 kobo per share paid for the 2018 business year. The dividend will be paid in March 2020 after approval by shareholders at the annual general meeting scheduled for March 4, 2020.

The latest dividend represented a significant growth for shareholders given that the company had also distributed bonus shares of one share for five shares for the 2018 business year, which automatically increased shareholders’ holdings by 20 per cent. The 42 kobo per share will be paid on both the previous and bonus shares.

Key extracts of the audited report and accounts of Vitafoam Nigeria for the year ended September 30, 2019 had shown that profit before tax rose by 339.5 per cent while net profit grew by 296.3 per cent. With the dilution, basic earnings per share rose by 219.3 per cent. The company’s top-line had grown by 14.1 per cent, implying that bottom-line performance was driven by growing sales, improved financial management and enhanced operating efficiency.


Group turnover rose from N19.53 billion in 2018 to N22.28 billion in 2019. Profit before tax surged to N3.49 billion in 2019 from N793.85 million in 2018. While tax expenses leapt from N191.92 million in 2018 to N1.03 billion in 2019, net profit jumped from N601.9 million in 2018 to N2.39 billion in 2019. Earnings per share increased from 57 kobo to N1.82 per share. The dividend payout represents 23.1 per cent of the earnings per share, a considerable improvement on a payout ratio of 53.2 per cent in 2018.

Group Managing Director, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, Mr Taiwo Adeniyi, has said consistent growths in key performance indicators in successive results provide basis for assurance that the company will be able to surpass its previous performance in the current business year.

Adeniyi said the group’s Nigerian businesses are on a stronger footing while three of its seven subsidiaries have started to generate profit.

He said the company will continue to innovate and develop products that will keep it ahead of competition and enable it to grow its turnover while extracting better values for shareholders.

Chairman, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, Dr Bamidele Makanjuola, said the growth in turnover and profitability reflected the robustness and fundamental strength of the group’s business.

According to him, the company had taken strategic decision and reengineered its business with special focus on products quality, innovation, market differentiation, customer service and consumer education.

“These efforts underscored our long-term priorities of growing revenue, controlling operating costs, and driving higher gross margins. I am pleased to report that we made great strides in cost containment and sustained positive trends in gross margins,” Makanjuola said

The fiscal operations of the Federal Government in the fourth quarter of 2019, showed an estimated deficit of N1.14 trillion, compared with the proportionate quarterly budget deficit of N479.62 billion.


 The government had estimated an expenditure profile of N2.59 trillion for the fourth quarter of 2019, but expended N2.07 trillion, representing a 20.1 percent shortfall and 14.1 percent compared with the level in the preceding quarter.

But the provisional data from Q4 Economic Report by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) revealed that while the Federal Government N2.07 trillion in the period under review, its earnings amounted to N938.72 billion. 


The development, which resulted to N1.14 trillion deficit financing, was below both the quarterly budget estimate, as well as the receipt in the preceding quarter by 55.6 percent and 46.0 percent, respectively.

Of the N938.72 billion, Federation Account accounted for 83.8 per, cent, while Federal Government Independent Revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT), Exchange Gain and Non-oil Excess, accounted for 8.7 percent, 4.4 percent, 2.7 percent, and 0.4 percent, respectively. Still, a further breakdown of the total expenditure showed that the recurrent component accounted for 73 percent, while capital and statutory transfers accounted for 21.3 percent and 5.7 percent, repectively.



An analysis the recurrent expenditure components showed that the non-debt component like salaries and others, accounted for 74.1 per cent, while debt service payments was 25.9 percent. 


The Federal Government and the sub-nationals (states) got tangled with the deficits when the federally-collected revenue in Q4 of 2019 settled at N2.6 trillion, which was lower than the quarterly budget of N3.76 trillion by 30.8 percent.


It also fell by 10.6 percent when compared with the receipt in the preceding quarter. The decline in federally-collected revenue (gross) relative to the quarterly budget, was attributed to shortfalls in both oil and non-oil revenues.Gross oil revenue, at N1.56 trillion or 60.1 percent of the total receipts, was below the quarterly budget by 35.3 percent, but above the receipt in the preceding quarter by 16.7 percent.



The decline in oil revenue relative to the quarterly budget was due to shortfalls in all its components, except domestic crude oil and gas sales.Non-oil revenue (gross) at N1.04 trillion fell below the quarterly budget of N1.34 trillion by 22.6 percent, as well as below the level in the preceding quarter by 33.9 percent.

The drop in non-oil revenue relative to the quarterly budget was due to the decline in receipt from all its components, except customs and excise duties. After the statutory deductions and transfers of N517.67 billion and N450.46 billion, respectively, a net sum of N1.63 trillion was retained in the Federation Account for distribution during the quarter.


Of this amount, the Federal Government received N786.35 billion; state and local governments received N398.85 billion and N307.49 billion, respectively, while the balance of N141.47 billion was transferred to the 13 percent Derivation Fund for distribution among the oil-producing states.



Additionally, the Federal Government received N41.46 billion, while the state and local governments received N138.22 billion and N96.75 billion, respectively, from the VAT Pool Account. Also, the sum of N8.7 billion was drawn-down from the Non-oil Excess Account and distributed among the Federal Government, N3.99 billion; state governments, N2.02 billion; local governments, N1.56 billion; and 13 percent Derivation Fund, N1.13 billion.



Similarly, N55.85 billion was shared as Exchange Gain, with the Federal Government getting N25.62 billion; state governments, N12.99 billion; local governments, N10.02 billion; and 13 percent Derivation Fund, N7.22 billion. Thus, the total statutory and VAT revenue allocation to the three tiers of government in the fourth quarter of 2019, amounted to N1.98 trillion, against the quarterly budget of N3.27 trillion.

At N701.90 billion, the total allocation to state governments from the Federation Account, including the 13 percent Derivation Fund and VAT Pool Account, was lower than the quarterly budget by 40.4 percent. A breakdown of the revenue flows to the states showed that receipts from the Federation Account was N563.69 billion (80.3 percent), while the share from VAT stood at N138.22 billion (19.7 percent).


The receipts from the Federation and VAT Pool accounts fell below the quarterly budget estimate by 42.1 percent and 32.5 percent, respectively.On the other hand, total allocations to local governments from the Federation and VAT Pool accounts in the fourth quarter of 2019 stood at N415.82 billion and were also, below the quarterly budget by 38.3 percent.


Of the total amount, allocation from the Federation Account was N319.07 billion, representing 76.7 percent of the total receipts, while the VAT Pool Account stood at N96.75 billion, representing 23.3 percent.

Ihedioha’s sack: Secondus reveals PDP’s final decision, attacks Buhari

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Uche Secondus, has raised the alarm that the country was tilting towards a full blown dictatorship under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Secondus said the PDP, after extensive consultations with legal experts, had decided to fully back Emeka Ihedioha, the sacked governor of Imo State, as he returns to the Supreme Court to seek a review and possible reversal of the January 14 judgement.


“We are highly optimistic that the Justices may bow to superior reason and reverse themselves by returning the mandate to the PDP,” Secondus said.

The PDP Chairman said this in his speech before the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting went into an executive session on Monday.


Secondus said that the ultimate objective of the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC, Federal Government was to foist a one party state on Nigeria.


The Rivers-born politician further stated that the NEC meeting, which is the second within ten days, was to enable the PDP look into current political situation in the country.

“The landmines laid by the ruling All Progressives Congress against democracy in our beloved country are exploding and the consequences are confronting us.


“When President Muhammadu Buhari and his party began the process of muzzling the other arms of government, our party cried out and alerted the nation and indeed the international community of the brewing dictatorship.


“Here we are watching helplessly as the legislature and the judiciary are put right in the pocket of the executive, an anomaly in a democracy that makes nonsense of the separation of power that is beautifully enshrined in the rule book to check the excesses of each arm of the government.

“At the NEC meeting ten days ago, we briefed you about the judicial abracadabra where the apex court in the land, the Supreme Court, delivered a bizarre judgment on Imo State where it took our PDP’s governorship victory and handed it over to the APC candidate that came fourth.


“All of these should worry us because no democracy strives if the legislature and the judiciary are caged as we can see.


“We are witnesses to the emerging dictatorial tendencies in our dear country. As we all can see, a dictator is not just on the way but has arrived at the scene already. They have rolled out the process of establishing a one party state so as to pave the way for a full blown dictatorship.


“To allow them have their way is to abdicate our responsibility as an opposition party who has made enormous sacrifice for democracy to blossom in our country.


“We have, therefore, called you today to deliberate critically on the state of democracy in our land to draw up far-reaching decisions that must help check the growing excesses of the ruling APC. Even the Presidency has abandoned governance amidst mounting problems and indulges in attacking us but we are not deterred.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY 28TH JANUARY.


THE WORD OF HIS GRACE

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified (Acts 20:32).

The Word of God is more than history or a compilation of stories; the Word of God is God talking. And what He says is relevant in the “now” of our lives, and it’s the material with which we build our lives. As you study the Scriptures, you’d often come across the phrase, “Thus saith (says) the Lord”; not, “Thus said the Lord.” “Thus says the Lord” means the Word of the Lord is for you today and for your situation—now; it’s efficacious in itself and by itself to build you and transform your life.

What we read in our theme verse was Paul’s cogitations and conviction about the transforming and translational power of God’s Word. The Word infuses boldness, excellence and dominion into your spirit. If the one who is hitherto timid would give himself to the study of God’s Word, that timidity would be replaced with the spirit of power, love and a sound mind. That’s the power of God’s Word.


However, even though every Word from God is full of power, the Apostle Paul was definite as to what builds your spirit and transforms your life: it’s “the Word of God’s grace.”


The Word of His grace is His Word about Christ, His redemptive work in our behalf; who we are today, what we have and where we are today, as a result of His death, burial and resurrection. That’s what builds you spiritually, mentally, physically, financially, emotionally, and also causes you to prosper in other areas of your life. Hallelujah!


Give yourself to the study of the Word; contemplate and contrive the Word in meditation. As you do, the Holy Spirit will grant you insight into the mysteries and secrets of life and of our spiritual Kingdom. He’ll also quicken the Word in you in such a way that results in an outburst of prosperity in every area of your life.


PRAYER

Dear Father, I’m yielded to be built, edified, energized and strengthened by your Word, for a life of greatness, victory and triumphs. Through the ministry of the Word, and the Holy Spirit, my growth spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially is evident; there’s an outburst of prosperity in every area of my life, to the praise and glory of your Name. Amen.

Thank You for the excellent life that I have in Christ! I am planted on the rock that is higher than I am, Christ Jesus! Therefore, I am not moved by circumstances.

I am a victor forever because Christ is my riddance. He rids me of any trouble and leads me triumphantly from glory to glory. Christ is the embodiment of all wisdom and knowledge, and He lives in me. There’s no limit to my knowledge.

Through meditation, I dig deep into the recesses of my spirit, activating the wisdom and knowledge in me, for witty inventions. I’ve received abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness; I am reigning in life, over and above the corrupting influences of this world: sickness, lack, and everything that limits.

The grace of God is multiplied in my life through the knowledge of the Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Our government hates us- Bolanle Olukanni, Ifuennada, others react to Lagos state government's decision to ban Okada, Keke NAPEP

Bolanle Olukanni, Ifuennada and other Nigerians are reacting to the decision of the Lagos state government to ban Okadas and Tricycles from operating in some parts in the state.  
 
The state government announced the ban on the operations of Okada and keke Napep riders in certain parts of the state. The state government said it took the decision following the alarming rate of motorcycle accidents in the state. 
 
Bolanle and other Nigerians feel this isn't a welcomed development as the government has not put in place alternative mode of transportation before placing the ban.
