Insecurity: Resign now or be sacked by President Buhari - Edoman - 01-29-2020 Insecurity: Resign now or be sacked by President Buhari- House of Representatives tell Service chiefs Members of the House of Representatives today passed a vote of no confidence on all the service chiefs, asking them to either resign their positions immediately or be sacked by President Buhari. The lawmakers made the call during its plenary in Abuja today January 29th. While debating on the nation’s rising insecurity, a member of the House, Abubakar Fulata, informed his colleagues that the service chiefs had outlived their usefulness and that it will be to the detriment of the country if these men keep doing the same thing repeatedly and expect a different result in tackling the security challenges Nigeria is grappling with. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, thereafter put the question to the lawmakers whether the service chiefs should resign and leave their offices or be sacked. Although there was a divide among the members in their response, majority of the lawmakers answered in the affirmative and the resolution was passed. The service chiefs include the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Naval Staff, and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar. They were appointed in July 2015. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army who appeared on Channels TV's "Sunday Politics", said there is resurgence of the insurgency in the northeast as he recalled the killings and violence recorded in his senatorial district. Ndume disclosed that the insurgents recently launched an attack on Askira and Damboa Local Government Areas of Borno state, killing some people and also carting away foodstuff and other valuables. The Nigerian troops countered the attack, but it left people scampering away for safety. He said; Quote:“The situation in the Northeast particularly Borno State is terrible. I can tell you that the situation is getting worse. There is a resurgence of the insurgency in the northeast. Also recounting how two bombs were detonated in a mosque in Gwoza and last week’s attack on Muno near Maiduguri, Ndume said the attacks are coming when people had a sigh of relief that the spate of attacks had reduced. The All Progressives Congress Senator who called on President Muhammadu Buhari's administration to wake up regarding its constitutional duty of saving lives and property, however stated that Abaribe's call for the President to resign wasn't neccessary. |
