Dino Melaye: "Immigration Snatched My Passport, I Snatched It Back
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:Lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, has given more insights into his arrest and detention at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when contacted by our correspondent on the telephone.

He said, “‎My self and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and others were to be on an official trip to Morocco but while some have gone through the Lagos airport today, others are to depart tomorrow.

“I got to this airport I was checked in and was already in the lounge waiting for departure. Immigration officers invited me that there is a directive from the police that I can’t travel; that I am on their watch list. And I said it was not true, that the INTERPOL said they had not issue an alert on me. I opened INTERPOL’s website and showed them the denial. But they insisted that it was based on the directive from the police.

“I was disembarked and asked me to go to their office (at the airport). They snatched my passport but I snatched my thing back from them. I got it back! I’m still here with them. They circled me and said they were waiting for further instructions from the police.”

Details soon.

EFCC to move into N24 Billion newly built head office
source: http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2018/04/efcc-to-move-into-n24-billion-newly.html

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will move into its N24 billion headquarters next month, Eyes Of Lagos learnt at the weekend.

President Muhammadu Buhari is to inaugurate the building.

Acting Chairman Ibrahim Magu said yesterday: “I am excited that the headquarters is ready for use.

‘’The Federal Government has spent over N24 billion to build it. I will crosscheck to give you the exact figure.

“I thank Mr. President for according this project a priority. It is part of his commitment to the anti-graft war. This is a legacy project, which many generations will be proud of.

“No leader in Africa has provided such a conducive environment for an anti-corruption agency like President Buhari has done.

“We have also received support from ministers and MDAs on release of funds and necessary infrastructure.

“This commission is grateful to the National Assembly for its interest in the project. Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, chairmen and members of committees on Anti-corruption always visited the site to monitor the work.

‘’It shows that if we are determined, we can be on the same page on this war against corruption. It is not a personal thing.

Magu added: “We are hosting heads of anti-graft agencies in the Commonwealth (Africa chapter) in May and we are hopeful the headquarters will be ready for occupation because it is more than 95 per cent completed.

“We are expecting Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to inspect the facility any time from now.”

The project has passed through three administrations in EFCC.

The construction of the headquarters was initiated by a former EFCC Chairperson Mrs. Farida Waziri.

Following a memo presented by a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Yayale Ahmed, the Federal Executive Council (FEC), on November 24, 2010 approved N18 billion for the 10-Storey building.

Another former Chairman Ibrahim Lamorde tried to get the peogramme completed but it was unsuccessful due to poor timeline for release of funds.

Magu, however, succeeded in seeing the project through in the last two and a half years.

Thugs Disrupt Pro-buhari Rally In Jigawa State
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 04-23-2018, 10:27 AM - No Replies

Quote:Political thugs disrupted a rally organised to declare support for the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari and that of the Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru.

The rally was organised by the All Progressive Congress, Jigawa North-west senatorial district, and was aimed at declaring support for President Buhari and Governor Badaru ahead of 2019.

The event, which took place at Gumel township stadium on Sunday, was marred by chaos that left the state party chairman, Ado Kiri, unable to address the crowd.

The thugs chanted derogatory songs, mainly targeted at the senator representing Jigawa North-west, Abdullahi Gumel, whom they prevented from getting on the podium to speak.

Mr Gumel was earlier ‘sneaked’ into the gathering by a former senator, Danladi Sankara, for fear of possible attack from the thugs.

The thugs are believed to be supporters of persons who wish to take Mr Gumel’s seat in 2019.

The rally which was billed to host all federal and state lawmakers had only two federal lawmakers in attendance.

Mr Badaru, who was billed to attend the event was absent. Unlike Mr Buhari, Mr. Badaru is yet to declare if he will seek reelection.

If the governor declares, he is expected to face stiff opposition not only from within his party, APC, but the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

The lawmaker representing Garki/Bubura federal constituency, Adamu FagenGawo, while addressing the gathering said his constituency has officially endorsed President Buhari and Governor Badaru for second terms.

Presidency Blames Opposition For Fg’s Failure To Stem Herdsmen Killings
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-23-2018, 10:26 AM - No Replies

Gentlemen, we have a problem. I thought the government had learnt some lessons

Quote:

The presidency has blamed the absence of cooperation from the opposition and the scaremongering tactics that they have employed for the federal government’s failure to stem the killings by suspected herdsmen in the Middle Belt.

It also said President Muhammadu Buhari has not given Nigerians reasons to vote against him in the 2019 elections and also blamed the excessive expectations by Nigerians for the current level of low appreciation of the president’s achievements in his first term in office.

In an article written by the president’s Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu yesterday, Buhari’s media aide said: “Nigerians had expected him to undo the damage several decades of mis-governance… naturally, many are already feeling frustrated that he hadn’t done that in three years.”

He noted that as the country is gearing itself up for the general elections in February next year and with Buhari announcing that he will bid for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a second term, “all hell has been let loose by the chaotic, ill-prepared opposition camp”.

“For President Buhari, who won with massive votes in 2015, his major challenge is to do as well as he did, or even better. He came to power with a lot of expectations and Nigerians had, justifiably placed very high hopes on him.

“As we said sometimes back, he, as a consequence, has become a victim of the tyranny of expectations. The weight of unrealistic expectations has evidently blinded many of the people from seeing the revolutionary changes happening across the nation.”

Garba noted that in democracies around the globe, second terms by incumbents were usually harder to get because, according to him, “Somehow, there is always some kind of anti-incumbency leading to a loss of faith among those supporters.”

Shehu, who noted that the opposition has so far failed to articulate programmes that will make them win the elections, come 2019, added that they cannot be united by ideology, “the type that made the pre-2015 opposition fuse into a formidable challenger that pushed an incumbent out of office”.

“There is no way, therefore, they can choose leaders with unanimity. What then they have taken to is scaremongering by fanning ethnic and religious divisions among the minorities, especially in the Middle Belt where hundreds of innocent citizens are confronted with violent death,” he said.

He declared that government was doing much to end the killings, but blamed the absence of support and cooperation for the poor results achieved so far.

“More, however, could still have been achieved if there was cooperation extended to the security agencies by everyone, and by everyone, I mean especially the political opposition.

“A political warlord recently ordered the provocative stoning of Nigerian Air Force personnel as their chopper landed in a Northeastern state,” he alleged.

Shehu added: “Government has irrefutable evidence that much as most of these killings are arising from herdsmen-farmers’ attacks, some of it is driven by politicians.

“The recent arrests by the army in Taraba State point to a clear political sponsorship and the kingpins, some of whom have been arrested and have been handed over to the DSS for further investigation.

“Others who are being sought have either gone into hiding or they are pulling strings of blackmail to force the hand of government to abandon the search for them.

“It is clear by now that the Middle Belt killings, even if they are not caused by the opposition, are no doubt seen as a political opportunity to set the tone for the 2019 elections.

“A so-called Third Force has failed to get political traction since its birth. This is understandable, given that they have promised to give the country everything that is new but have so far produced no new faces, no new ways of doing things. Certainly, there is no face that can be called the President of Nigeria.

“For the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) parading itself on the glory of being the largest opposition, the party has not less than 10 leaders acutely ambitious to rule Nigeria.

“It will take them minimally two to three terms of presidential tenure, that is eight to twelve years to reinvent the party.”

Shehu, while listing the achievements of the Buhari administration, said: “This administration has broken the jinx of fertilizer shortage and its high cost and has made land clearing for agriculture a priority.

“Loans at low or no interest rates are being given by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Bank of Agriculture, the Bank of Industry and the Development Bank.”

He, nonetheless, acknowledged that it would take years to raise Nigeria’s growing population from poverty.

“Even in China, with the world’s fastest-growing economy, this still, is work in progress”.

He also declared that much was being done for women, children and Nigeria’s “enterprising youths”, adding: “This is the first time anyone has given our country a social welfare scheme.

“By it, 7.5 million children are served free meals in schools. This has improved school attendance. Two Hundred thousand graduates are now enrolled through N-Power, and 300,000 have just passed screening in the biggest, most audacious employment scheme on the continent.

“Our youths have a lot of ideas and many who need support, mentoring and guidance under the various schemes under the Social Investment Programme of the government are getting help.”

The economy, he said, has seen a paradigm shift with agriculture getting a pride of place.

“We are importing 90 per cent less rice than we did three years back, the World Bank has certified Nigeria as being one of the top ten most improved economies in the world.

“The power ministry has done commendably well, raising generation from an average of 2,600 megawatts to 7,500 MW.

“Today, each state has a minimum of between one to five federal roads under construction or reconstruction. Some have as many as eight or nine. The legendary Second Niger Bridge is by now 44 per cent complete, putting to shame the many years of platitudes and lies by several past administrations.”

Speaking on the foreign policy front, Shehu noted that Nigerian enjoys a good reputation in West Africa, Africa and the world.

“What this government is doing is different and the results are showing. For example, the decline which began in 2014 and stabilising the economy for Nigerians, recovery of stolen national assets and economic restructuring for the growth of the private sector as the best solution to unemployment.

“Others include demonstrable infrastructure improvement: roads, power and energy and re-establishment of a collaborative working relationship between the president and the vice-president as a model of how Northern/Southern, Muslim/Christian, older/younger Nigerians can and should work together.

“The thing about the second term in all political climes is that voters must have a practical reason to vote for someone. President Buhari has not given anyone an excuse not to choose him on this count. His is an administration that has something for everyone.

“Supporters who talk about a noticeable loss of faith by some must note that there is nothing permanent in politics. Many of the allies will, in pursuit of power, come back to the APC, being the party with superior power.”

Garba boasted that the APC did extremely well in the North to attain power and every indication are that in 2019, it will do in the South what it did in the North in 2015.

Rhapsody of Realities.
We're In The "Much Fruit Class".
Monday 23rd April 2018.
Pastor Chris

_*I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing (John 15:5).*_

The Lord Jesus is the Vine and we’re the branches. That means we’re of the same stalk. The same life that’s in the Vine flows through the branches and as a result, we’re ordained to a fruitful and productive life. Not only is the Lord interested in you bearing fruits, He also wants you to bear lasting fruits: _*“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain…”*_ (John 15:16).

Remember, He said every branch in the Vine that’s unfruitful is taken away, but every branch that bears fruit is purged and pruned to bear more fruit (John 15:2). He continually works in you so you can keep bearing fruit; we belong in the “much fruit” class. If you’re bringing forth fewer fruits, it’s because you chose to. You have the ability to bring forth much fruits; He chose and ordained you for that: read our opening scripture again.

God has programmed you, consecrated and anointed you to bring forth fruits, which means there’s no room for failure in your life. Everything you do prospers; anything you’re involved in grows; you’re productive in all seasons. Psalm 1:3 puts it clearly: you’re like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth fruit in season; your leaf also never withers, and whatsoever you do, prospers.

*CONFESSION*

*I’m fruitful and productive because Christ is in me, and I’m in Him; we’re of the same stalk. Everything I do prospers, and I’m making progress from glory to glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:
John 14:12
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. *||*

*|Colossians 1:9-10
* For this cause we also, since the day we heard [it], do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; *

*|Psalm 1:1-3 NIV
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

My words are not empty, they are filled with divine energies. The anointing of God’s Spirit is in my words; therefore, the words that I speak, they are spirit and they are life . The #lazynigerianyouth trend is not dying down anytime soon, as Nigerian veteran singer, Charly Boy has also lent his voice to the campaign which labelled Nigerian youths as ‘lazy’, following a statement linked to President Buhari.

Charly Boy trolls on President Buhari's son, Yusuf, for being a Lazy Nigerian Youth lailasnews

Charly Boy who trolled on President Buhari’s son, Yusuf Buhari who was flown to Germany for treatment after he was involved in a motorbike accident, wrote;

Quote:This is Yusuf
He doesn’t like to work( can’t blame him)
He stays in a free house, eats free food and rides a power bike all day long.
If he has a headache, he flies a chartered or presidential plane to some of the finest hospitals to treat himself for free.
He can never be broke like us, always liquid because oil money no dey finish.
However, he is a lazy Nigerian.
Don’t be like Yusuf.

Charly Boy also added;

On behalf of the exceptional, hard working, the ever gallant Nigeria youths I urge you mr President to please show some respect. #Ourmumu don do.

It is clear dat the only reason old pple like u insist in remaining in power is dat you fear a life without oil money, you all are worthless you bring nothing to the table. The future of the youths can never belong to the old.

See how you and your likes killed and destroyed education in this country because it means nothing to you, by d way hv u found ur missing certificate?

When leaders are clueless, Incompetent, clueless, analogish, myopic, mongoparkish dey are also lazy, because dey inspire no one, dey motivate no one, dey kill pple’s hopes an dreams, dey contribute nothing to the youths growth.

The lazy youths na ur children crashing out on power bikes, shopping at Herolds in london with our oil money. Mr Presidento!!nigerian oil money has paid u for not adding value to our lives, you hv no visible thriving buisness dat provides employment for thousands of youths.

What legacy would you and your likes say you bequeathed to the youths apart from ethnic distrust, suspicion, religious intolerance and corruption. Na you I dey ask.

Three years ago, you told us dat you would create three million jobs yearly, but in three years, over 9 million Nigerians have lost their jobs. U told us dat u will stop medical tourisim but you and family enjoy the best medical attention abroad, while we die like rats here.

So Oga Buhari u get the mind to call nigerian youths lazy and uneducated after ur generation stole and destroyed their future? Haba!!!!!!

TROOPS OF 81 DIVISION NIGERIAN ARMY ARREST SOME IMPOSTORS OVER THE WEEKEND

In the continuation of the crack down on criminal elements, the troops of the 81 DIVISION NIGERIAN ARMY arrested some imposters of the Nigerian army at the Lagos and Ogun part of the country.

The experience of the Division reveals that most of the people in military uniform that were arrested by the crack team of Operation CHECKMATE while extorting innocent citizens, interfering in land disputes, perpetrating one criminal act or the other actually turned out to be impostors who are unduly and deliberately tarnishing the good image of the Nigerian Army by committing such crimes while impersonating military personnel creating the false and unfortunate impression that such criminal acts were being perpetrated by soldiers.

The suspects are:

Mr. Olarewaju Yusuf of No. 5 Idowu close Ojo-Alaba Road was arrested on 11 April 2018 for impersonating as a soldier. He was in possession of an Army camouflage cap, claiming to be an Air Force personnel.

Mr. Ibrahim Isa aka “Malaika” was arrested on 15 April 2018. The suspect usually claims to be a soldier in order to commit criminal acts. Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, a dismissed soldier was arrested on 15 April 2018 for assault and impersonation.
Mr. Adetileyin Segun of block 2 flat 1 Camp 3 was arrested on 13 April 2018 for impersonating the soldier

Mr. Ale Victor Michael of No 3 Tony Marshall Street, Ajasakoma Ipaja. He was arrested along Iba Road on 14 April 2018, dressed on Military Camouflage T-Shirt and Desert boot impersonating as a soldier. Items found in his possession are; 1 Nigerian Army Badge, 2 Camouflage T-Shirts, 1 Daga knife, 1 Royal Ranger ID card, 1 Lieutenant Rank and 2 Nigerian Army Letters of Recommendation.

The General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigeria, Major General Enobong Okon Udoh wishes to use this opportunity to thank the general public and indeed the people of Lagos and Ogun states for their continued cooperation and urges them to always give timely information that will help the Division in its operational efforts on day to day basis. He pledged not to relent until the Area of Responsibility of his Division is completely rid of all forms of cultism, vandalism and other violent criminal activities and criminal elements. He enjoined members of the public to continue to always reach out and call the numbers below or contact the nearest military barracks for timely useful information.

Bbnaija 2018: Sex In The Toilet, Cee-c And 3 Talking Points Of ‘double Wahala'
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 08:23 PM - No Replies

Quote:Today brings to an end the 2018 edition of the reality television show, Big Brother Naija tagged ‘Double Wahala.’

In the course of the show, which has lasted for 90 days, viewers were exposed to different dramas.

The overall winner of the show would go home with the N45 million grand prize today, Sunday, March 22, 2018.
The finalists include, Alex, Nina and Cee-c.

Others are Tobi and Miracle.

We bring to you five key talking points of the show.

1. Reentrance of Anto and Khloe:

This was the first time in the history of the Big Brother Naija reality show that already evicted or disqualified housemate reentered the game.
They were not readmitted to play as fake housemates; but according to Ebuka, they were there like other housemates to chase the grand prize.

2. Eviction of Bambam: The eviction of female housemate, Bambam, was arguably, one of the shocking moments of the show. Bambam was the only housemate evicted in a form of disqualification.
Big Brother sent Bambam packing immediately after the Saturday night party. Her lover, Teddy A, followed her the next day.

3. The pairing game: This year, Big Brother made sure that the 20 housemates became very close to each other. While some left the show as lovers, Nina and Miracle have continued their love in the house.
Anto and Lolu, Bambam and Teddy A were other housemates that left the show still glued to each other. Along the line, some of the housemates even confessed to have shifted focus from the cash to love.

4. Teddy A and Bambam- sex in the toilet: This will remain a major topic even when the show finally comes to an end today. Viewers of next year’s edition will surely look out for characters such as Teddy A and Bambam. Although the pictures were not crystal clear, but the two housemates in question neither denied or gave in.

5. Cee-c and her bitterness:

How long does her smile last? This is one of the questions that crop up each time her name is mentioned.
Big Brother Naija 2018 housemate, Cee-c will remain a big talking point till the next edition.
She was a hard nut to crack to other housemates. This housemate fought with virtually all the co-contestants.
Her recent insults on Tobi, and his generation will remain in the minds of followers of the show. Some celebrities have noted that Cee-c is trully the “Double Wahala.”
She has already cautioned her father and fans against attacking her because of the attitude she displayed in the house, when she returns to Nigeria

The president of Uganda, YOWERI MUSEVENI,has blasted president Buhari as the most useless President that ever happens to that great country Nigeria.

According to YOWERI, a leader should not expose his citizens, Nigeria is a great and an outstanding country in Africa because of the youth of that country.

Our people have an Africanized social life all over Africa is because Nigerian youth put their full hardworking efforts, look at the movie industry and most outstanding the music industry.

Buhari can never outgrow the slave and masters mentality, He keeps talking bad about his people any time he makes a trip, he said.

Britain is there to exploit and steal just what they are known for. He seizes to understand that Britain created that country and gave it all the flaws that will never make it grow beyond a limit.

According to YOWERI, Nigerians will vote him out it is obvious there is nothing Britain can do about it. If he Tries to annul or rig the election he will face a wide loss of legitimacy. Nigerians are patiently waiting to send him back to retirement, YOWERI MUSEVENI said.

President of the Arewa Consultative Youth Forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, has revealed why no northerner participates in Big Brother Naija reality show.
Shettima said the contents of the TV programme were immoral and no core northerner will participate in the reality show because of their values and culture.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Shettima said, “No Northerner would appreciate such a programme. No core northerner will participate in a programme like the Big Brother Naija because of the immoral act involved.
“The show is immoral and we do not participate in such. No responsible child of a northern benefactor will participate. Even the non-Muslim, if they have proper upbringing, you cannot see them participating in the act of immorality.
“We have an identity, we have culture and our religion. We know how we look at life and how we go about it.
“Is it about the oral sex they are talking about or the irresponsibility? What is there to learn? It is totally out of place. It will be difficult for a northern to participate.

2019: APC Camps That Will Determine Buhari’s Fate
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 01:43 PM - No Replies

TOBI AWORINDE writes on the political groups within the All Progressives Congress bloc that will determine the success or otherwise of President Muhammadu Buhari ’ s second - term bid next year

With President Muhammadu Buhari ’s recent declaration to seek re -election in 2019, presumably , the ruling All Progressives Congress is mapping out various strategies to ensure the success of his campaign .

Particularly crucial to the President ’s ambition will be key allies whose former political parties — the Action Congress of Nigeria , the Congress for Progressive Change, the All Nigeria Peoples Party and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance — merged in 2013 to form the APC. The merger paved the way for an unprecedented presidential election victory by an opposition party.

But going into the 2019 elections , the stakes seem higher for the ruling party, especially now that the APC ’s incumbency hangs in the balance and the threat of another determined opposition party looms large . Evidently , Buhari will need all the help he can get.

ACN camp

Back in 2009, when scores of opposition parties existed without any real electoral leverage , Asiwaju Bola Tinubu advocated a mega party to challenge the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party . Tinubu, once the lone opposition governor in the South - West , was one of those who championed a two- party system and sought for members of the opposition to forge a united front in order to win at the polls.

The call came after the highly controversial 2007 general elections, which saw the emergence of the now late Umaru Yar ’ Adua of the PDP as president . According to CNN, election observers from the European Union described those polls as “ the worst they had ever seen anywhere in the world , with rampant vote rigging , violence, theft of ballot boxes and intimidation .”

Part of the groundwork that was laid for what would become the APC began when the Alliance for Democracy, the party on whose platform Tinubu became Lagos State governor from 1999 to 2007, underwent a metamorphosis . The AD partook in a merger with other opposition parties, including the Justice Party and the Advance Congress of Democrats, to become the Action Congress and later the Action Congress of Nigeria .

The merger helped secure the ACN ’ s dominance in Lagos , Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Edo, Kogi , Bauchi, Plateau, Niger and Adamawa states. Tinubu ’ s role as the spearhead of this merger and later the APC alliance consolidated his political influence in the country , although some argue that his relevance has waned over the years.

Alongside the effort of Tinubu , the contributions of other prominent members of the old ACN proved significant to Buhari ’s 2015 presidential campaign on the platform of the APC.

One of them is the erstwhile ACN national chairman , Chief Bisi Akande. When the ruling party was formed , he steered the party as the interim national chairman until Chief John Odigie- Oyegun took over as the substantive national chairman .

Also , a notable name in the days of the ACN , former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole , was a standard- bearer of the party in the South - South . Oshiomhole remains a force to reckon with in the party. As the party’ s May 14 national convention draws near, he is positioning himself as one of the major contenders for the seat of the national chairman of the APC . This makes him one to watch in the President’ s 2019 campaign .

Like Buhari , former Ekiti State governor , Dr . Kayode Fayemi , has his sights set on returning to power in the state . Fayemi , who got elected on the ACN platform , was unseated by the current governor Ayodele Fayose on June 21, 2014 in an election marred by rigging allegations . If the Minister of Solid Minerals Development wins the election on July 14, he would have reclaimed the only South - West state in the hands of the opposition , thus posing an advantage to the Buhari campaign .

Other key members of the now defunct ACN are Babatunde Fashola (Minister of Power , Works and Housing ), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun State governor), and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo State governor ).

Speaking in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH , the Director of Publicity and Strategy, APC, Osun State , Mr . Kunle Oyatomi, gave the assurance that the ACN bloc would deliver for Buhari in the 2019 presidential election .

“ If Buhari is our candidate, we will deliver bloc votes for him ; there is no doubt about that . The former ACN members , who are now in the APC , will surely deliver votes and a resounding victory for the APC candidate in the presidential election .

“ Whoever our candidate is in 2019, I can assure you that the votes from the southern block are well assured . We will do nothing but ensure the victory of our presidential candidate. The ACN bloc in the APC is still very strong. Nothing has changed now. The only thing that has changed is that we have become more strengthened . We are stronger than ever before . Sincerely , I don’ t know of any challenges before us, ” Oyatomi said .

CPC camp

At the point of the APC merger , the CPC was significant as the party to which Buhari belonged . In fact , the CPC was set up for the sole purpose of actualising Buhari ’ s presidential ambition. The foundation for the party was laid by the Buhari Organisation , a campaign group in support of the former military dictator.

Unlike in 2003, when the ANPP gave Buhari an automatic ticket to run for president , he faced some opposition in the 2007 race . Even when he clinched the presidential ticket , there were a number of issues relating to the integration of the TBO with the ANPP Campaign Committee.

Eventually, the party joined forces with the campaign for Yar ’Adua, much to Buhari ’s chagrin. Buhari , feeling betrayed, then left the ANPP to form the CPC .
Following the APC merger , the ex- general brought his CPC family into the fold , including the former CPC national chairman , Tony Momoh , and current Ogun State governor , Ibikunle Amosun.

The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el- Rufai , never contested election on the platform of the CPC . However, he has been a long -time associate of Buhari and, by extension , the CPC .

These and several others have their work cut out for them as Buhari charges into the 2019 elections on the platform of the APC .

The Publicity Secretary of the APC in Nasarawa State, Mr . Hudu Sambo, said the CPC bloc within the ruling party is strong enough to deliver the required votes that Buhari needs to win the 2019 presidential election .

Sambo said, “ Nasarawa was the only state in the federation controlled by the CPC before the 2015 general elections . We are stronger now because many PDP politicians have since defected to our party.
“ The CPC bloc within the APC will deliver the entire northern Nigeria for President Buhari convincingly in 2019. ”

ANPP camp

The ANPP was established in 1998 under the All Peoples Party . Prior to the APC, the ANPP was a major party in the North, alongside the PDP .

In 1999, the party entered into an alliance with the AD to present Chief Olu Falae as the presidential candidate to challenge Chief Olusegun Obasanjo of the PDP . That year, it won governorship elections in nine states — Kogi , Borno, Yobe , Sokoto, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi and Kwara.

By 2003, it became the strongest opposition party, controlling seven of the 36 States — Borno, Yobe , Jigawa, Zamfara, Kano , Sokoto, and Kogi . After the 2007 elections, the ANPP controlled only three states — Borno, Yobe and Zamfara.

Buhari was the party’s presidential candidate in 2003 and 2007. In the April 19, 2003 presidential election , Buhari secured 32.2 per cent of the votes. In the 2007 presidential election , he also came second with about 18 per cent of the votes, according to official results . Both results were contested due to irregularities in the conduct of the elections.

Some of the prominent figures in the now defunct ANPP are Minister of Science and Technology and former ANPP national chairman , Dr . Ogbonnaya Onu ; Sen. Ahmed Yerima; and Odigie- Oyegun.

Another original ANPP member is former BoT chairman , Ali Modu Sheriff . After joining the APC in 2013, Sheriff defected to the PDP in 2014.

Following a two- year- long leadership tussle in the PDP , the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt , Rivers State on February 17, 2017 declared Sheriff as the authentic National Chairman of the PDP . However, in July 2017, the Supreme Court ruled against Sheriff , which led to his removal as the PDP chairman . Sheriff ’ s tenure was rife with accusations of being an APC mole .

Incidentally, two months after his dismissal , he held a private meeting with Vice - President Yemi Osinbajo at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja . After the meeting, which held for less than two hours , Sheriff refused to speak with State House correspondents when he was approached.

Moments after , Odigie - Oyegun also came to Aso Rock to see the Chief of Staff to the President , Abba Kyari.

If the PDP was right about Sheriff ’s alleged duplicitous role , he may be a major asset to the Buhari camp in 2019.

APGA camp

APGA , a predominantly south- eastern party, was set up prior to the 2003 elections.
Following a protracted internal battle between then Anambra State governor, Peter Obi , and the former APGA national chairman , Chief Victor Umeh , Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State led a faction of the party into the emerging APC.

Okorocha’s influence is crucial to Buhari , especially as the ruling party’s leading figure in the South - East, where Buhari has encountered the most criticism .

‘New PDP ’ camp

According to several political pundits , the absorption of a group of aggrieved yet powerful PDP members into the APC was the final ingredient in the new alliance ’s winning formula .

At a special PDP convention on August 31, 2013, an Abubakar Baraje -led faction of the PDP announced that it was breaking away from the then ruling party to form the ‘New PDP ’. Arguably the most significant mass defection in Nigeria ’s political history followed on November 26, 2013 when the APC announced its merger with the New PDP .

The merger gave the APC a total of 18 governors and ensured that the party had at its disposal some of the more experienced politicians in the country , including Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State governor , Rotimi Amaechi ; Minister of Agriculture and former PDP chairman , Audu Ogbeh ; former Ekiti State governor , Segun Oni ; Kwara State governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed ; former Anambra State governor, Chris Ngige ; former governor of Adamawa State , Murtala Nyako; and former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso .

The Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr . Chris Finebone, told SUNDAY PUNCH that those who formed the New PDP before creating the APC still possessed the quality and following to earn Buhari the highly - coveted second - term victory in 2019.

Finebone admitted that though some persons , who were occupying offices of governor or other political positions in 2014, wielded enormous powers then, their powers might not be as potent in the current dispensation .

He however noted that the presence of such persons in the APC would give the party victory .

Citing Tinubu and Amaechi , the immediate past governor of Rivers State, the APC spokesman maintained that the presence of the duo in the party would surely amount to more votes for Buhari .

“ Generally, on a scale , their power will be less now because they are not occupying the same positions they occupied before as governors. But because they are all in one political party, their strength put together is big enough to help the President win again ,” he stated.

Why I Gave Extra N10billion To National Assembly — Kemi Adeosun
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 01:41 PM - No Replies

The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has reacted to a PREMIUM TIMES report detailing how her ministry illegally approved N10 billion for the National Assembly.
The report, published on Friday, indicated that Mrs Adeosun released the billions to the lawmakers despite the N125billion appropriated for the federal legislature in the 2017 fiscal year for recurrent and capital expenditures.
The fund was arbitrarily approved for the lawmakers by the minister in collusion with the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.
Investigations by PREMIUM TIMES also showed that at least 44 of the 82 contractors the leadership of the National Assembly claimed they were owing were not registered on the National Database of Contractors, a database of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP). That means they are not eligible to be awarded federal contracts.
A further check by this newspaper revealed that 17 of the 44 firms were not even registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
In a statement by her media aide, Oluyinka Akintunde, Friday evening, the minister confirmed releasing the fund, but said her action remained legal.
Describing PREMIUM TIMES report as ‘defective,’ Mrs Adeosun claimed that warrants were issued before the billions were moved to the lawmakers.
“The attention of the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has been drawn to a smear campaign by an online medium, Premium Times, of “illegally sharing of N10 billion from the national treasury”.
“The Honourable Minister wishes to debunk the entire mischievous and made-up report of the online medium which negates the ethics and professionalism of journalism. The article displays a worrying lack of understanding of Appropriation, Payments and Control, and therefore be disregarded by the public.
“The Minister further wishes to state that warrants are issued in accordance with Appropriation and after due approval by the Cash Plan Committee chaired by the Minister.”

The statement however failed to explain the process of approval for such warrant.
The minister did not also address salient issues such as the release of funds outside the budget and award of contracts to unqualified companies.
Mrs Adeosun did not also explain why she failed to conduct further due diligence by asking for evidence that the contracts were duly awarded before she approved the funds for the lawmakers.
Another explanation the minister failed to make is why her ministry preferred to give N10billion of the N20billion allocated for the payments of federal contractors to the National Assembly which has a budget that covers all its recurrent and capital spendings

A disturbing video coming out of Trinidad and Tobego shows a young girl calling for help on social media and claiming that her mother gives her out to men to satisfy their sexual pleasures.

The 13-year-old girl named Latisha said that her mother abuses her and forces her to have sex with men. In the video Latisha begged for help from her social media followers.

Apc Group, Pdp, Sdp, Obasanjo’s Cnm, Others To Form New Party
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:Taiwo Adisa - Abuja and Saheed Salawu

A grand coalition of opposition political parties, including a chunk of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and influential political stakeholders across the country is being firmed up ahead of the 2019 general election to wrest power from President Muhammadu Buhari’s party.

The new coalition may be unveiled in the next few weeks in a move designed to jolt all political permutations towards the next general election.

In the unfolding coalition are the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), certain leaders of the APC, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), about 23 other smaller parties and the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) formed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The coalition is also said to enjoy the backing of other former presidents and retired generals, including General T. Y. Danjuma.

“This is not like the arrangement that produced the APC. We are not considering sending any application for change of name to INEC. There are not less than eight brand new political parties in the pockets of people across the various groups. We are thinking of fusing into one of them as the new platform.

You know, such a new party will give all sides equal opportunity. We will also avoid traps of the APC which is waiting to frustrate any attempt by, especially, the PDP to apply to the INEC for a change of its name,” a key figure in the coalition told Saturday Tribune on Friday.

The coalition is said to enjoy the support of some leaders of the National Assembly, about 19 governors, including some from the APC and about 60 percent of the membership of the legislature across the country.

The last four weeks have seen persons involved in the plan holding strategic meetings at various levels at which, competent sources said, significant concessions were granted by the various groups to accommodate one another and move forward.

“One of such meetings was held in London last month. Two of these governors and some legislators were present,” another source told Saturday Tribune during the week.

National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Uche Secondus, on Thursday, confirmed that his party would soon go into a coalition with other like minds to defeat Buhari’s APC next year.

It was learnt that leaders of the PDP moved away from the initial ‘we can do it alone’ posture when they saw the resolve of the APC “to remain in power at all costs” even with the myriad of problems besetting the country.

“The PDP thereafter commenced merger or coalition talks with national political leaders, former officeholders and influential voices across the land. The new rapprochement will soon engineer a broad-based coalition that will give the APC the red card next year,” a PDP source said on Friday.

Members of the National Executive Committee of the PDP were on Thursday briefed on the developments so far by the National Chairman, Secondus, who told the meeting that the party was already working with former presidents, other leaders and like minds to unseat the APC in 2019.

“Consultations with various groups are useful and in coming days, a broader platform will be raised to wrest power from APC. We commend our elder statesmen and other patriotic Nigerians who have spoken up on the urgent need to rid the country of the current APC government and enthrone a government that will serve the people’s needs.

“We, therefore, invite our brothers, sisters, youths and women from other political parties to join us to rescue our country that is in distress socially, politically, economically and security wise.

“Our consultations have taken us to meet with various interest groups who are willing to do business with us and I can report to you that they are very fruitful. We expect, in coming days, to have a broader political family working dedicatedly to rescue this democracy and our beloved country from the hands of APC,” Secondus said.

It, was however, gathered that some state chairmen of the party objected to the likely name change as a source added that the matter could not be resolved at the NEC meeting.

“The matter is only on the table but we are determined to accommodate all interests willing to work with us. The idea of name change is tricky. We are discussing the matter further and we will get to the right decision at the end of the day,” a source in the PDP said .

Some sources however said that rather than dissipate energy on name change, the party “should adopt a more positive outlook towards national development and roll out its plans to oust the APC. One thing is sure, we will not allow the name debate to derail the emerging coalition ahead of 2019.”

Masquerades Invade Church Service In Anambra, One Killed, Many Injured
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 12:24 PM - No Replies

At least one person died yesterday while over 22 others sustained various degrees of injury when masquerades in their numbers invaded the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The masquerades, who were said to be celebrating a festival known as Uzo Iyi, invaded the worship ground, beating up members and also attempting to whisk away the spiritual director of the centre, Rev Fr Emmanuel Obimma.

According to reports, three of the masquerade members were arrested by operatives of SARS upon complaint from the church that they were extorting worshippers coming to the church. The leadership of the church called in the SARS operatives to help their internal security to protect worshipers, but upon arriving, the operatives arrested three masquerades who were involved in the extortion, but their colleagues attempted to stop them from taking the arrested masquerades away, prompting SARS operatives to shoot sporadically into the air before whisking the masquarades away.

Personal Assistant to Fr Obimma, Francis Okoye, who spoke to journalists, said a priest, Rev Father Henry Nnajiofor, a seminarian and 28 others were injured during the attack on the worshippers. It was however gathered from some worshipers that an unidentified person was feared dead during a stampede caused by the attack.

Okoye said: “The normal masquerade activities in Uke, to the best of my knowledge, ends by 6pm but as at 8pm on Friday, the masquerades were still parading at the entrance route of Uke Adoration ground, extorting money from the our members and robbing others on the guise of masquerade festival.

“As at 8:30 pm, we started receiving information that group of masquerades were attacking our members, inflicting bodily injuries on them as a result of severe flogging. They flogged some of them, stabbed some with their weapons including machete, while others were robbed of their mobile phones and other valuables. “We quickly contacted the SARS office to assist our Adoration security that could not handle the situation at that point in time. When SARS arrived in an hour later, they arrested two masquerades but on their way back, the youths blocked the road and insisted that the masquerades must be released. That was when SARS officials fired shots on the air to disperse them. “When SARS left, they regrouped again and this time came in their numbers to the Adoration premises, beating everybody including the elderly, the sick and pregnant women. Our Adoration youths, in defence, pursued them and arrested one other masquerade who stayed in the Adoration ground with us until this morning when we handed him over the official of the Nigerian Army that came for our rescue,” he narrated.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra State, ASP Nkiru Nwode confirmed the incident but denied that the masquerades also attacked the police officers from SARS. She said the command arrested three of the suspects and is currently investigating the cause of the incident

Why not wait till when he is done masquerading and effect your arrest.
Technically, a masquerade is a spirit or it's representative. How do you arrest a spirit?

Buhari Appoints Victor Uwajeh Accused Of Fraud To Recover Looted Assets
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 12:22 PM - No Replies

Quote:PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari, has appointed a private consultant, Victor Uwajeh, accused of fraud to trace and recover undeclared assets and proceeds of fraud as part of the ongoing fight against corruption in the country.

The London based Nigerian private investigator, according to findings by HEADLINE, is facing a four-count charge the Federal Government preferred against him for attempting to obtain money through fraudulent means from Senator Andy Uba, who is representing Anambra South Senatorial District.

The office of the Attorney-general of Federation (AGF) instituted the suit against Uwajeh on behalf of the government.

The appointment of Uwajeh is obtained in a letter signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution matters, Okoi Obono-Obla.

Dated 22nd March, 2018, the epistle said Uwajeh’s application has been considered for engagement as special investigator to his panel.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on April 18th, issued order for substituted service of criminal summons on Uwajeh.

At the resumed hearing, government lawyer, Mr. Abubakar Alilu, told the court that the defendant had severally evaded service of the charge on him.

The charge borders on forgery, impersonation and fraud.

Alilu informed the court that a baliff that went with a policeman to effect the service at Uwajeh’s residence in Abuja, was almost shot by security men at the premises.

“One of the bailiffs went to the address of the defendant at 9, Jesse Jackson Street, Asokoro and was almost shot by the policemen guarding his house.

“The defendant is aware of this matter. His counsel had pleaded that he travelled to the United States and that once he returns he would appear in court.

“But my lord since then the defendant has failed to make himself available for trial. I know that it is not yet ripe to make an application for a bench warrant. However, I will apply under section 124 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act for leave of court to paste a copy of the criminal summon in a conspicuous part in the premises where he resides”, the prosecution added.

After he had listened to Federal Government’s lawyer, Justice John Tsoho, granted the request.

The case was, subsequently, adjourned till May 21.

Uwajeh was said to have been indicted by an investigation a crack team from the Nigerian Police Force conducted on a petition that was written to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, by Senator Uba.

The embattled lawmaker had in his petition, accused Uwajeh of attempting to use bogus and illegally procured documents to extort money from him.

Nevertheless, the defendant insisted that Senator Uba engaged his services for an assignment in the United Kingdom Border Agency and in the United States of America.

Uwajeh said he previously dragged Uba to court over his alleged refusal to pay him the debt of £1.9million that was remaining from their agreed fee.

In the said suit, the defendant accused Uba of parading fake academic credentials.

He said he got details of Uba’s alleged dubious qualifications from documents he was exposed to while he worked as a private investigator for the lawmaker.

Uwajeh’s letter of engagement reads: “Reference is being made to your letter dated 15th March 2018, “I am pleased to inform you that you application has been considered for engagement as a special investigator to the panel.

“Consequent upon this appointment, you are to trace and where necessary recover undeclared assets and proceeds of fraud for the Federal Government of Nigeria in line with the mandate of the panel. This appointment is subject to terms and conditions as may be expressed in a duly executed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).”

This development stands to question the potency of the anti-corruption mantra of the Buhari administration.

The judge, however, wondered why someone that the state wants to bring to justice would be shielded from prosecution by agents of the same government.

This regime has corruption allegations against about half a dozen members of the current federal cabinet in their previous functions; a military service chief, immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachar Lawal, former Director General, Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NlA), Wole Oke.

The others are Group Managing Director (GMD), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC); acting Head of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, as well as Inspector General of Police (lGP), Ibrahim Idris.

Except for the SGF and NlA DG that have been sacked after a long period of dilly dallying that created a negative impression of acquiescence in public eyes, the presidency and the relevant agencies that are supposed to act on the multiple allegations and indictments against the seeming untouchables around the corridors of power by driving the investigations to logical conclusions, have been practically silent.

Given the aggression with which the same anti graft institutions went after members of the National Assembly (NASS) accused of corruption while in fact they were being targeted for acting contrary to the ruling party’s dictates with respect to sharing of parliamentary offices, the lack of zeal to arraign the accused in President Buhari’s inner circles is quite unsettling.

Another arm of government which has received the ire of the presidency in its bid to tackle corruption even unconventionally is the judiciary. When high ranking members of the bar and bench accused of impeding justice by being plied with proceeds of criminal enterprise were found at odd hours in their sleeping robes instead court robes in detention facilities, members of the public were excited that if judges, including Supreme Court justices were not spared, then the death knell for corruption has been sounded.

But the accused judiciary members who argued that they were only being victimised for refusing to do the bidding of government against opposition politicians, fought back and subsequent court trials have vindicated most of them.

2019: Arresting, Naming PDP Leaders Looters Won’t Stop Your Sack – Secondus Tells APC
User Avatar Forum: Politics

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, will not escape being defeated in the 2019 elections.

According to Secondus, arresting members of PDP and listing them among looters of the nation’s treasury will not stop the APC from being sacked.

He restated the determination of the PDP to regain power at the federal level in 2019.

The PDP national chairman said this on Saturday at the reception organised for the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa by the people of Delta North Senatorial District.

He said that the APC has failed to fulfil any of the promises it made in 2015 which made Nigerians to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Secondus said, “I bring you greetings from the national secretariat, and want to say that the part is very proud of Okowa.

“We have promised to provide a level playing field for everybody. There will be no imposition or impunity. This is the new rebranded PDP, and we are determined to regain the lost ground.

“No amount of intimidation, lies or propaganda will stop the PDP from taking over in 2019. If they like, they should arrest and detain our leaders.

“If they like they should continue to announce names of alleged corrupt Nigerians, they will not get through again with lies and propaganda.

“APC is a sinking ship and that is why they are harassing and intimidating everybody and telling all sorts of lies that will not work this time. They did it in 2015, but it is not going to work in 2019.”

Emir Sanusi Blasts Fashola, Ogbeh, Adeosun, Others

The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has decried the absence of government officials at a meeting with investors in Washington DC, USA.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday in Washington DC at an investment programme organised by the Nigerian Embassy, Sanusi said Nigeria might lose investors because of it.

Audu Ogbeh, Minister of Agriculture; Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology; Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture; Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Power; Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources; Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Finance; Kayode Fayemi Minister of Solid Minerals, who were all billed for sessions at the event, were absent.

Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; Yewande Sadiku, Executive Secretary of Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission; Yemi Osinbajo, vice president and governors were also absent.

“For the person sitting in London and who has a billion dollars to invest, he’s got Nigeria, he’s got Ghana, he’s got Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa, you may be the biggest economy, but he may decide that rather than go through the hassle of investing $500 million in nigeria, why not put $100 million in Ghana, $100 million in Rwanda, $100 million in Cote d’Ivore, just to have diversification benefit and the benefit of reaching out.

“We had a meeting today with investors, we were supposed to start by 9am we started at 10. When I came in they took me to the ambassador’s office to sit down, when investors were waiting down there. We had a list of people who were to be here, vice president, ministers, some of them are in town, but they haven’t come up.

“You invite top investors, your ministers are in Washington and they do not come to talk to the investors about Nigeria. That is not how you attract investors. If you have this forum in the Rwandan embassy, I assure you President Kagame himself would be there telling people to come to Rwanda,” Sanusi said.

According to the monarch, there was no reason for the absence of the officials and the challenges faced at the beginning of the event.

Sanusi added: “Sometimes, it is about how we market ourselves, how we package ourselves. There is absolutely no reason for the Nigerian embassy to arrange a Nigeria is open for Business forum with ministers in town, with governors in town and not have the coordination that they are actually here to meet with these investors.

“There is no reason why we should start one hour late, and there is no reason why the public address system should not work. Because at the end of the day, this is the first point of the country, he hasn’t even come to Nigeria so what will be his experience in Abuja and he is saying if I am having this experience in Washington, what will happen when I go to Abuja, when I go to Kano, how do I get to see the governor will it take me 10 hours?” the monarch said.

2019: Okorocha To Declare ‘No PVC, No Salary In Imo’
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 11:56 AM - No Replies

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has announced that his administration will soon begin to demand the Permanent Voters’ Card from indigenes of the state as a condition to engage in certain socio-economic activities, such as salary payment and admission into schools.

The governor said this while addressing journalists at the Government House, Owerri, on Saturday.

According to him, the non-challant attitude, exhibited by indigenes of the state to the collection of their PVCs, had made it necessary for the government to adopt certain measures to effect a change.

He said, “The government is going to initiate the policy of ‘operation-show-your-PVC’ before you can enter the market to buy or sell and before you can do business or get anything from the government, and before your child can be admitted into schools.

“Even before workers receive their salaries from the government, they must show their PVC. We cannot allow the I-don’t-care-attitude of our people towards the exercise to continue unchecked.”

The governor further decried that many Imo indigenes were not interested in getting their PVCs, which would qualify them to play a key role in electing deserving representatives and leaders of their choice and also enable them to contribute their quota towards strengthening the state.

  El-Rufai Declared Missing In Kaduna
User Avatar Forum: Politics

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna state has declared the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, missing.

The party said El-Riufai was declared missing due to his alleged lack of adherence to law and order and dereliction of duty.

The party said the governor purportedly breached the law by being absent from his duty post as the state’s elected governor.

The governor has not been seen in public for over 10 days and there is no formal explanation from his aides about his whereabouts.

The PDP Chairman Kaduna State Chapter, Felix Hyat, in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Abraham Catoh, raised the concern over the governor’s absence.

“For more than 11 days running, governor El-Rufai of Kaduna State has disappeared from public glare, without transmitting power to his deputy,” the statement said.

It also condemned the APC’s style of leadership in the state “which is without recourse to Constitutional provisions”.

“We advise the APC- led Government to respect the tenets of our democracy so as to sustain the hard-earned democracy the PDP and other Nigerians fought to put in place for the betterment of a liberal society,” Hyat said.

2,000 Medical Doctors Leave Nigeria Yearly
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 11:52 AM - No Replies

Stakeholders in the health sector have expressed alarm at the rate Nigerian physicians are trooping abroad in search of greener pastures.

In separate interviews with The Guardian, they shed light on the urgency of the situation, calling on the Federal Government to do more to save the nation’s health infrastructure.

It is estimated that at least 2,000 medical doctors leave the country yearly for the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and South Africa.

“This is cataclysmic, given the fact that currently, contrary to the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) of a ratio of one doctor to 600 patients, Nigeria has a ratio of one doctor to 6,000 patients.

This poor doctor-patient ratio is regrettable when compared to the ratio of doctor to patients in India (1:2083) and in the United States (1:500).”

Figures released February 2018 by the British government indicate that no fewer than 5,405 Nigerian-trained doctors and nurses are currently working with the British National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom (U.K.).

This means that Nigerian medics constitute 3.9 per cent of the 137,000 foreign staff of 202 nationalities working alongside British doctors and nurses.

A Consultant Neurological Surgeon, Brain and Spine Surgery Consortium Abuja, Dr. Biodun Ogungbo, regretted that fresh doctors no longer see a bright future within the shores of Nigeria. “The conditions of work are poor.

The facilities are poor and the remunerations are poor. Many doctors are breadwinners in their families but are unable to deliver family expectations,” he said.

He advised: “The government needs to take healthcare seriously and make it a major priority in view of its critical importance to our lives. The amount budgeted for health must be increased. Better financing translates to more remuneration for health workers, increased training opportunities for doctors, availability of equipment and other consumables.”

Professor of Radiology, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Ifeoma Okoye, shared her experience on the pitiful state of the healthcare system: “As a radiologist, my colleagues and I have faced frustration and embarrassment due to lack of imaging equipment to hone our skills and provide quality service confidently to our patient population, as well as hold our heads high at international fora, where we are faced with colleagues who run their daily practice on the latest high-end modalities.

For most of us, knowledge of such equipment is at best theoretical and these experiences of inadequacy turn our professional lives into one of hard labour and frustration.”

Okoye, also a Consultant Radiologist, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu

(UNTH), explained: “Trained health professionals are needed in every part of the world, and so when healthcare professionals lack opportunities for professional development, enabling environment to practice and optimise their skills, and find that their quality of life and ability to train their children in the best educational institutions is gated by their poor salaries (compared to their peers in more advanced countries), they permit their brains to be drained.”

According to her, developing the clinical trial industry can add value to “identified growth indicators and become the cornerstone of health and economic transformational agenda, which should help Africa climb up the value chain towards industrialisation and provide opportunities to bring the large informal sector progressively into the formal economy.”

Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, former Minister of State for Health and Executive Director Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), told The Guardian: “If political leaders, who control the public purse, continue to choose to travel abroad for medical care, it is a signal for domestic health workers that they, too, ought to travel abroad, in order to practice and advance themselves professionally. We cannot have one without the other.”

His view was shared by Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer, Beaconhill Smile Clinics, Dr. Oluwaseun Akinbobola, who noted: “Healthcare is not a priority in our nation, as most decision makers would rather travel abroad when the need arises. Until we prioritise healthcare, I don’t believe this dramatic exodus of doctors will end. You cannot fix a health system you don’t believe in.”

He, therefore, advised: “The leadership of the country must instill confidence in and show willingness to improve healthcare services by signing necessary health acts and bills, increasing funding for the sector and ensuring that funds are properly managed.”

Former President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and Vice President Commonwealth Medical Association (CWMA), Dr. Osahon Enabulele, recommended: “Better political commitment to health; better appreciation of the worth of medical personnel, along with better and competitive wages; better working conditions and inspiring work environment; better security and access to social amenities; attractive and globally respected postgraduate training programmes.”

Medical Director, Optimal Specialist Hospital Surulere, Lagos, Dr. Celestine Ugochukwu Chukwunenye, on his part, stressed: “Federal Medical Centres should be handed over to the states. Each teaching hospital should then be allowed to float or sink.

Their governing boards should reflect the interest of their catchment area and appropriate pricing of their services in line with available government subsidies.”

He said the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) must be strengthened to provide better access to these facilities. According to him, it is a ruse to think that forcing the teaching hospitals to charge fees like Primary Health Centres (PHCs) is the way to improve access to them.

Patients, meanwhile, have deserted the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), following the strike action by members of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), now in its fourth day.

The union embarked on the strike after the expiration of an ultimatum it gave the Federal Government, alleging non-implementation of an agreement that included salaries.

Balarabe Musa Tips PRP To Defeat APC In 2019
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Former Kaduna State Governor and National Chairman of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has said the party is poised to bring an end to the administration of Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the state during the 2019 governorship election.
The former governor also condemned the mysterious fire that gutted the secretariat of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) yesterday, in which the entire secretariat was completely razed down, one month to the conduct of Council polls in the State.

Documents and recently acquired electronic voting machines meant for the council polls scheduled for May 12, 2019 in all the 23 local government councils might have been destroyed.

The fire was said to have started around 10. 45 am, but as at 11:24am when The Guardian visited the top floor was still in flames, even as fire fighters were seen struggling to put out the inferno with more trucks from the state fire fighting unit driving in.

Big brother Naija housemate Alex has had her mother’s kitchen refurbished by Dano aft

Big brother Naija housemate Alex has had her mother’s kitchen refurbished by Dano after winning the competition organized by Dano for housemates.

Alex’s mother’s kitchen in Asaba was tastefully refurbished and shown to her and all the housemates. A video message from her mother, was shown as well.

Alex who got so emotional couldn’t hide her tears. She also won a cash price of N500,000.

Alex’s fans have also intensified efforts to make her win the 45 million prize money. According to them, she was the most realistic person in the House; a motive behind the reality show.

In related news, whom do you think is going home with the grand prize today?

After 12 weeks of intense competition and intrigues, the stage is set again to crown the winner of Nigeria’s biggest reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, BBNaija, as the show ends tomorrow, in South Africa.

The show, which began on Sunday, January 28, with 20 housemates will ultimately see the emergence of a winner of the grand prize of N45 million and a brand new SUV car during this Sunday’s final broadcast. Five top finalists, including Miracle, Tobi, Cee C, Nina and Alex are in the race for the all-important grand prize. At the end of last Sunday’s show, Anto, Lolu and Khloe, the trio who polled the least number of votes, were evicted from the #BBNaija house, leaving five housemates to battle for the prize.

It has been a long journey for the top five finalists and whoever emerges the winner tomorrow, will instantly become a millionaire. Interestingly, 20 housemates namely; Princess, Bitto, Khloe, K Brule, DeeOne, Vandora, Ahneeka, Angel, Leo, IfuEnnada, Anto, Teddy A, Bam Bam, Rico Swavey, Lolu, Nina, Miracle, Alex, Tobi and Ceec began the race, but only five of them made it to the final.

While this third season of the reality show tagged “Double Wahala” has been punctuated with breakups, makeups and a dirty fight that led to the disqualification of two housemates, the show equally has lived up to its billing as the most watched show across the continent.

Recall that three weeks into the show, housemates Khloe and her strategic partner K Brule were disqualified from the game for quarreling, using profane words on each other, an act that is against the big brother house rules.

However, Khloe was lucky to return into the house when big brother presented an opportunity for two evicted housemates to be voted back into the house. This opportunity saw Khloe and Anto who had also been evicted earlier on, return into the big brother house.

Also, after staying three weeks in the house, Princess, Bitto, DeeOne and Vandora were evicted on the first live eviction show of the season hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchenndu, making them the first set of housemates to be evicted from the show.

As the weeks went by, Ahneeka, Angel, Leo, IfuEnnada, Teddy A, Bam Bam, Rico Swavey, Anto, Khloe and Lolu were evicted respectively from the show, leaving behind five housemates to battle for the grand prize.

Whom do you think will work away with the ultimate prize?

2019: Give Way For Someone Who Has Capacity - Shiek Gumi Tells Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 11:46 AM - No Replies

- Prominent Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Abubakar Gumi has given his thoughts on President Muhammadu Buhari's leadership qualities

- Gumi is of the opinion that the president lacks the capacity to lead Nigeria out of its present challenges

- He advised the president to give way for someone who has the capacity to deliver ahead of the 2019 presidential election

Prominent Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Abubakar Gumi has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari lacks the capacity to lead Nigeria out of its present challenges.

Sheik Gumi, who made the assertion during an interview with the New Telegraph, noted that President Buhari administration is doing his best, but the best he can offer is not good enough for the country.

His words: “It is like a student I used to have. He studies, do his homework and reads but when the exams come, he fails. The problem is not that he is not trying but that was his capacity.

“The same thing is the problem of the present administration. Truly, they are doing their best, but their best is not good enough. What they need to do is to give chance to someone with the capacity to deliver.”

But reacting to the cleric's comment, the director, strategic communications of President Buhari’s Campaign Organisation for 2019 presidential election, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), said the statement was a personal opinion.

Keyamo stated that the cleric does not represent the views of the generality of ordinary Nigerians, adding that it would have been appropriate for Gumi to use available facts about the state of the economy and efforts of Buhari’s administration at tackling insurgency as the yardstick for analysing how government has performed.

“Nigerians have gone beyond the era of blanket criticism. We have gone beyond that stage. After a criticism, Nigerians will want to know how best to tackle a situation being criticised better,” the lawyer said.

Meanwhile, ex-agitators under the aegis of National Assembly of Ex-militants have frowned at the declaration of interest of President Buhari to run for second term in office, saying Nigerians could not afford another four years of poverty ridden administration.

The group which claimed to have worked for Buhari in the 2015 elections, said it has withdrawn support for the president, reiterating that the present administration had brought infectious poverty, abandonment of supporters and insincerity to develop Niger Delta region.

Why Makarfi Is The Most Credible Alternative For Nigeria
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 11:45 AM - No Replies

@tonyebarcanista

It is not a debate that Nigerians are fed up with the present administration of Muhammadu Buhari, the debate on the lips of many is, who among those vying for the office is worthy enough to earn the trust and vote of Nigerians for the top job.

Having taken time to analyse all the aspirants from the major opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, it is in my humble belief that His Excellency, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, the immediate past National Chairman of the party and former Governor of Kaduna state is the most credible alternative for the Presidency and the most sellable candidate among the multitude vying for the seat. The reasons? Read on;

Makarfi As Governor Of Kaduna State
Among the governors that had served Kaduna state, Ahmed Makarfi is the only person that is considered acceptable by all segment of the population. Though a Fulani Muslim, he is loved so much by the non-Fulani Christians of southern Kaduna, this is beside the fact that the Fulani Muslim population in zones 1&2 see him as a man after their heart. Makarfi is seen as a bridge-builder and nationalist that carried every group along in terms of development of the state and appointment when he held sway as Governor.

During his time as governor of Kaduna state between 1999-2007, institutions were built, road constructed, and peace and tranquility was maintained all through his time. Even when there was religious crisis as a result of the proposed Shari'a bill in 2000, Makarfi stepped in, suspended the bill and brought every stakeholders to the table to which a partial Shari'a bill (to be binding on only those that subject themselves to it)was agreed on by all parties, which restored peace to the state.

Makarfi popularity in Kaduna state grew so large that the General Buhari whirlwind of 2003 that swept Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano state could not be enough to sack him and install Alhaji Sulaiman Hunkuyi despite the fact that Buhari was highly popular in Kaduna state and his ANPP had defeated PDP's Chief Obasanjo in the Presidential election result from Kaduna state. Upon conclusion of Makarfi's term in office as governor, a lot of Nigerians prevailed on him to aspire for Presidency to succeed then outgoing president Chief Obasanjo in other to replicate Kaduna success in Nigeria, being that Kaduna is considered a mini-Nigeria.

Proven Integrity And Transparency
Having served as two term Governor, two term Senator and Chairman of PDP for almost 2 years, no indictment of graft or financial misappropriation has he found himself.

Despite the fact that majority of his colleagues of class 1999-2007 Governors became guests of various Economic and Financial Crimes Commission offices and courts, while some are in the news for negative reasons, Senator Ahmed Makarfi maintained a clean bill of health and never had cause to explain any misconduct to a judge, investigator, prosecutor or journalist with respect to his integrity.

The Most Experienced And Most Prepared For The Job
I make bold to say that of all those aspiring for the 2019 Presidency including incumbent Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Makarfi remains the most experienced and qualified given his vast experience and antecedents across sectors.

As a trained accountant and former Senior banker, Makarfi is vast in managing the resources of organisations and entity. This he proved in the management of the lean and almost zero resources of PDP when he was chairman, as well as those of Kaduna state when he served as Commissioner for finance and later Governor.

His eight years experience as Governor will come to play in handling executive responsibilities as President for the good of the country, while his experience as Senator will come to play in forging a robust relationship with federal lawmakers as he appreciates their role in furthering our democracy and giving dividends to the masses.

The Presidency under Makarfi will not be enmeshed in party-government politics that cause distraction to the government as he is fully abreast with the workings of a party and know how to relate with it to the benefit of the masses. I am very optimistic that the unhealthy cold war between the National Assembly and the Presidency that seem to have been a norm in the polity since 1999 will be thrown to the dustbin of history under Ahmed Makarfi's administration.

Furthermore, Senator Ahmed Makarfi is never known to be a controversial figure, but known to be an unapologetic nationalist and first class statesman that believes in fairness, equity and justice. It is not a fluke that he enjoys popularity and is highly respected by the political class and the masses irrespective of religion and ethnicity. He is the only one whose candidacy could be bought by the sophisticated Southwest, the innovative Southeast, the agile SouthSouth, the committed Northcentral, the ever dependable northeast and strategic northwest population.

Conclusively, while citizens are eager for a transition to a new government, it will be a disaster on political parties, especially the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party to field a candidate that lack goodwill amongst Nigerians, one that is highly inexperienced and one that suffers credibility issues.

May God Bless Us All And Bless Nigeria

How Bishop Adjeman Successfully Hijacked Winners Chapel Ghana From Oyedepo
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 04-22-2018, 11:43 AM - No Replies

By HigherEd

Background: Bishop Adjeman a Ghanian was a protege of Oyedepo in Kaduna and was ordained as bishop by same Oyedepo and then transferred to head Winners Chapel Ghana which consisted of 14 churches spread across Ghana, kingdom heritage schools and church house. Bishop Adjeman later re-registered the church in his own name, secede and the drama broke loose.

In 2004 Bishop Adjeman staged a takeover of the Ghanian branch of Winners Chapel after the Headquarters in Canaanland Ota, Nigeria attempted to transfer him to winners chapel Ibadan when he refused to continue remitting the $60,000.00 monthly church income that was erstwhile remitted to the Nigerian headquarter(Usually Money is remitted from all branches of the world to Nigeria then after, certain percentages would be returned to the branches while HQ keeps rest)

After bishop Adjeman revealed how much was transported to Nigeria every week, all hell was let loose in Ghana as the debate became a Nigeria vs Ghana debate. Some Ghanaians felt it was wrong for a church in Ghana to remit money to a church in Nigeria, therefore took sides with Bishop Adjeman. Others felt Adjeman was disloyal to his former boss in Nigeria and should leave the church using the right way and not taking over any of the church's properties, members or name.

The Ghanian branch of Winners Chapel Ghana was started in 1996 and already had 14 branches, Kingdom Heritage school(s) etc while Adjeman was transferred to Ghana in 2002. However Adjeman claimed that when he got back to Ghana he met the church badly run and therefore when Govt authorities in Ghana called for Churches to be registered as companies, Bishop Adjeman went ahead to re-register the church in his own name and excluded the names of all the Nigerian trustees without informing the Nigerian church of the new regulatory development nor asking for their assent

Bishop Adjeman Seeks Financial Independence From Winners Chapel Nigeria

The initial aim of Adjeman wasn't so clear at this stage. But what is sure is that Adjeman wanted at least financial independence from Nigeria at some point. The Ghanian church had kicked against the practice of money being "illegally" transferred to Nigeria. The Ghanian church claimed that Winners Chapel isn't a limited liability and should not transfer money to Nigeria only to later receive some percentages of it.

Winners Chapel Nigeria Transfers Adjeman To Ibadan

Following Adjeman's refusal to keep remitting money to Headquarters in Nigeria he was transferred to Ibadan, Oyo state.

Adjeman Rejects Ibadan Transfer

Bishop Adjeman rejected Ibadan transfer and notified church members that he was been transferred because of his refusal to remit money to Nigeria. Some members cheered Adjeman on and encouraged him to disregard the transfer.

Bishop Adjeman Sacked By Winners Chapel HQ in Nigeria

Once Adjeman had refused to honor his transfer to Ibadan, Adjeman was then sacked by the Nigerian Headquarters.

Ghana Pentecostal Fellowship Demands Adjeman should Vacate Church For Winners Chapel Nigeria

Following the attempt at secession the Ghanian Pentecostal Fellowship ordered Adjeman to vacate the Winners Chapel premises. The argument of GPF stemmed from the fact that Winners Chapel Ghana was built with seed funding from the Nigerian church therefore it should be returned to the mother church in Nigerian.

Oyedepo's Faction Of Winners Chapel Intl Sues Adjeman's Winners Chapel Ghana To Court

While attempts where being made to resolve the crisis of ownership, two factions where quickly created. The Oyedepo faction(now referred to as Winners Chapel Intl, Ghana) and the Adjeman's faction referred to as Winners Chapel Ghana. The both factions where unaware that the battle they had just began was going to last for the next 14 years in the Ghanian judicial system.

Oyedepo's Faction(WCI) Starts All Over Again

Once the Adjeman faction had retained the church premises in 2004 the Oyedepo faction secured another space not too far away where they began worshipping as they began tussle with winners chapel Ghana led by Adjeman.( It is important to note that there was never a direct lawsuit between Winners Chapel Nigeria and Adjeman's faction of Winners Chapel Ghana)

As the Crisis metarmophosed the GPF equally admonished Oyedepo to settle Adjeman so he can go and start his own ministry. Oyedepo initially disagreed querying if that wouldn't be tantamount to a bribe. The GPF however encouraged him to see it as a way of setting up a Son.

Adjeman Makes A Request Of $50,000, A House and Car As Conditions For Handing Over the Church

To settle the problem, Adjeman made a demand that he be paid $50,000 as severance, along with the church mission house and a car. Oyedepo vehemently opposed this but he was persuaded to see Adjeman as a son and not a rebel and that he should see the money given to Adjeman as a parting gift to a son. Bishop Oyedepo, after due consultation with his church elders, was said to have agreed to approve $100,000 but without a car and a house. This didn’t go down well with Adjeman and he decided to take over the church for himself.

Adjeman Visits Oyedepo in 2010 "To Return Church Properties"

Seemingly feeling remorseful, Adjeman visited Oyedepo in 2010 against the wishes of his lawyers. There, Oyedepo reportedly agreed to let Adjeman have all the properties but should drip the "winners chapel" tag from his church name which was the root of the contention. Adjeman agreed to drop the name and even church propertiea. But Adjeman changed his mind as he got back to Ghana.

Ghanian Court Delivers Judgment in 2017 In Favor Of Adjeman

13 years after in 2017 the Ghanian court dismissed the lawsuit by Winners Chapel Intl(Oyedepo's faction). According to the court, winners chapel Ghana is a registered and recognized church in Ghana as it was duly registered by Adjeman and therefore won the case. However properties acquired between 1996 and 2002 must be valued and half returned in cash value to Oyedepo's faction. However judgment was not giving as regards the name of the church.

Winners Chapel Intl Today And Winners Chapel Ghana

The Oyedepo faction(WCI) started again in 2004 after the unfortunate split. It now has a network of 150 churches in Ghana and is about getting its own university. However winners chapel Ghana led by Adjeman has plunged from 14,000 members as at the time of secession to 1,000 members.

The day of secession as told by a Ghanian in church.

According to Paul Agbai

"A lot had been going on prior to the coup de tat that day, a Wednesday... In April 2004. Prior to that day, the Pastors from winners chapel Ghana had gone to Lagos for annual pastors retreat of which George Adjeman himself was supposed to go but he didn't and rather handpicked those pastors loyal to him to go. News had gone round before the arrival of the Pastors that those who went to Lagos were made to sign some undertaken against their will, but no one could ascertain this claim. I came to church that night, driving towards the church, behind one Pastor Richard Appiah, who was next to Bishop Adjeman in seniority, himself just coming from the Lagos trip and was heading to Church that night.

Just by the gate of the church, the head of Crowd Control Unit, CCU, stopped him and said "Oga" has said that all the pastors who went to Lagos should not be allowed in. This pastor Richard Appiah gave a note to the brother to go and give the Bishop that he, Richard, had come but Bishop Adjeman sent a message back that he should meet him in the house by 9pm. I was in my car, just behind Pastor Richard as all these unfolded, I was wondering and a bit confused because of all the preceding tension buildups. Well, Richard's wife got down from the car and trekked in to take her sit with the choir I was leading then. I reversed my car abit for Richard to pull back before I could enter the church in my car.

Towards the end of the service, Bishop Adjeman stood up with a script in his hand and started....."when a child in the womb delays in coming out, a surgical operation is needed, we are about doing a surgical operation." Along the lines of the script, was these statements that shocked me to my bones and marrows till date. Bishop Adjeman said that "all the pastors that went to Lagos had been held and detained against their wills and he doesn't know where they are and that the church should rise up so that we pray for their release from those holding them in Nigeria.." I stood up with others...but instead of praying..I was lost in wondering if this was a kind of home movies theatre or a church, I am in?.and congregation prayed like they were casting out demons in Africa...you know that scene....I was asking myself...is it not now that this man asked the pastors to meet him at a place for meeting at 9pm...but unsuspecting souls were led astray to make it look like its a fight between Ghana and Nigeria... 13 years down the line...no sense of remorse... Not even after he later called Bishop Oyedepo that he wanted to come to see him for restitution and he was granted audience. In that meeting captured on Video, he told Bishop Oyedepo that he was ready to let go and Bishop told him he should just drop the name that is creating confusion and go with the properties to start his own life assembly church he jettisoned. Bishop Adjeman said, he won't only drop name of winners chapel he is using but would drop all properties too..(I will soon release that Video...stay tuned)...he returned to Ghana and changed his mind.........End of my eye witness account of that night of "surgical operations" to remove winners chapel, Ghana from winners chapel international... But truth is always truth and if hidden, how can it be known...hence my putting this here!

Eye witness account...

OBESE sisters aged just six and eight undergone surgery in an attempt to lose weight

OBESE sisters aged just six and eight who had a combined weight of 22 stone have undergone surgery in an attempt to lose weight.
The two sisters from India, Yogita now eight, and Amisha, now six, weighed a massive 59kg and 82kg respectively at their heaviest.

Yogita and Anisha have undergone surgery in a bid to help them lose weight
But they have already lost over a stone in weight and their breathing improved after undergoing bariatric surgery.
Dad Rameshbhai Nandwana, 36, from a village in Gujarat, western India, said: “I cannot tell you how overjoyed we are. It’s been a long journey to get here and getting the right help with the right results.
“But we can already see results. We can see their features, they look like little girls. We are very happy and excited to see them getting better.”
The two sisters used to eat a vast amount of food every day – breakfast of chapatis, and six bananas and eight chapatis, half kilogram of rice and three bowls of curry for lunch and dinner as well as six packets of crisps, five packets of biscuits, a dozen bananas, a litre of milk, and a litre of Coke every day.

Dr Mahendra Narwaria has given his services for free to help the sisters
Rameshbhai, who earns just 3,000 rupees (£35) a month as a labourer, used to spend all his money on food to fill their appetite.
He said: “I sometimes get paid Rs 100 a day and sometimes there is no work at all. I work in fields, dig wells and do whatever menial job I can to earn money.
“I used to always be worried about feeding my always-hungry children. I couldn’t leave them cry hungry. And when I had no money, I borrowed it from my brothers and friends.”
A local government hospital offered to help the girls in 2015 after seeing newspaper articles and advised Rameshbhai not to overfeed his daughters. But even when their diet reduced to two chapatis and mixed vegetable broth for lunch and dinner, the girls continued to gain weight.

After a liquid diet for a week the sisters are now back to eating solid food
For the next three years the family were sent all over India to various hospitals, seeking help, but no result or long term weight loss managed to help the girls get healthy.
However, last month Asia’s top bariatric surgeon, Dr Mahendra Narwaria, from Asian Bariatrics Clinic, in Ahmedabad, western India, invited the family for a meeting.
The family took a nine-hour train journey from their village to Ahmedabad and met with Dr Narwaria.
Dr Narwaria promised Rameshbhai help, free of charge, and offered the sisters surgery to reduce their stomachs and long term consultations and guidance on permanent weight loss and a course of hormones and vitamins.

The two sister used to eat a huge amount of food every day
Dr Narwaria said: “If left, these children would not see adulthood, they would die young. These children need my help to first reduce their weight, and then go on a long-term plan to stabilise their condition. There is no name for their condition, they have a genetic problem and a Leptin receptor deficiency but if I can help them get better then I will. I never charge children for this surgery, these children urgently need help if there is any chance of them living a long life.”
Last month, on March 6, Yogita an Amisha were taken into surgery to have a portion of their stomachs removed.
By the next day, the girls were on a liquid only diet. And after seven days they began to slowly eat solid foods again, but much smaller portions.
Before surgery, Yogita said: “One boy in my neighbourhood calls me ‘fatty’ and it makes me sad. I don’t like it. I want to lose weight so I can jump around with my friends.”
A month after surgery Yogita had lost 9kg and Amisha had lost 10kg, and both showing positive signs of losing more weight as the weeks pass.
Mother Pragna Ben, now 32, a full time housewife, who has another daughter Bhavika, now nine, who is a normal weight, and youngest son, Harsh, now four, who already weighs 24.6kg but is not being treated yet, used to spend all her time in the kitchen.
She said: “My days used to be filled with making chapatis and curry. And despite the heavy breakfast and lunch, they used to demand food all the time and cry and scream if they’re not fed.
“I was always in the kitchen cooking for them. But now they eat small meals, it is much more controlled.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 22ND APRIL.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ Our Authority In Christ ✨

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19).

Our authority in Christ is all-encompassing, and unlimited, and has nothing to do with our personal acts of righteousness. Rather, it’s the result of the obedience of Christ, and our placement in Him. Here’s something really beautiful: In Matthew 23:1-3, the Lord Jesus, speaking to the multitude, and to His disciples, said, “…The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat: All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.”

The Master used the scripture above to explain something profound about authority. The Scribes and Pharisees represented Moses, and Moses represented the Law. Under the Law, the Scribes and Pharisees were to be obeyed, because they had the authority of Moses, even though they themselves weren’t living and acting right. Nevertheless, since they sat in Moses’ seat, Jesus said, “Obey them.” That’s a law in the Kingdom.

Now, even though the Master didn’t approve of the actions of the Scribes and Pharisees, including their hypocrisy and religiosity, He recognized their authority and taught the people to honour that authority, because of Moses. As a Christian, you sit in Jesus’ seat. Your authority over devils and the powers of darkness isn’t based on your ability or human perfection; it’s the authority of Christ.

When God spoke out from heaven about Jesus in Matthew 17:5, “…This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him,” He was talking to all of nature. All of creation—Satan, demons, angels, everything in life, living and non-living—have all been commanded to hear and obey Jesus, and by extension, you, because you sit in His seat. The Bible says, “…as he is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17).

Satan and all his demons are aware of this; they know that you have the power to cast them out anytime, anywhere, under all circumstances, and that they’re bound to obey you. They don’t obey you because of anything else; they obey you because of Jesus, because you function in His dominion. You’re seated with Him in the place of glory, power, and authority. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the boldness and authority your Word has stirred in my spirit. All of creation responds to me, because I sit in Jesus’ seat; the whole world is mine. I live triumphantly today and always, manifesting the power and dominion of Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

"There Is No Corruption In Buhari's Government" - Osinbajo

Posted by: Edoman - 04-21-2018, 09:40 PM - No Replies

Apart from the ''lazy Nigerian Youths'' speech, the Vice-president was noted saying something akinda unpleasant.

The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says that their is no bad record so far in President Buhari's administration.

Away from the #LazyNigerianYouths drama, the Vice-president has been quoted saying something noteworthy.

The Vice President, prof. Yemi Osinbajo said in the art of receiving the leadership of the Companion, an aasciation of Muslim Businessmen and Professionals, at his office in Abuja.

He said;
“One thing that is very sure now is that this presidency is not stealing and we have a President who is not stealing and will not steal. There is no corruption in the presidency under the current government. This kind of body language is what is saving this country a lot of money now. Like what is happening in JAMB, Customs, FIRS, NPA, FAAN, NIMASA where we have witnessed improved revenue collection and returns to govt for unspent resources. When we begin to deal with corruption in all facets of government particularly within the public sector, there will be a lot of improvement in our country. The government is also looking at improving ease of doing business to be able to attract more foreign direct investment over a period of time. All MDA’s will be made to submit their expenditure in line with the budget as well and in compliance with the accounting year”.

Harvard University Uses Nigeria As A Case Study Of A Failed African Country
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 04-21-2018, 09:27 PM - Replies (1)

Nigeria has yet again been 'disgraced' internationally, following an assignment Harvard University gave to its students in which Nigeria was used as a case study of a failed African country.

The question Harvard University gave its students reads;

Africa is growing. Seven of the the ten fastest growing economies in the world are in Africa, and the continent's largest economies are becoming less dependent on extractive commodities. The continent's rising middle class has demonstrated a taste for consumer goods and technological innovation, and Africa's population-currently more than a billion people- is booming and overwhelmingly young at a time when populations in other regions are shrinking and aging.

Nigeria, sub-saharan Africa's largest economy, epitomizes both the promise and the problems the continent faces in the 21st century. The contry had failed to thrive for its first thirty years as an independent nation, despite having a developmental head start relative to countries like China and India, as well as hundreds of billions of dollars in oil revenue.. Now, after pathbreaking reforms followed by signs of retrenchment, Nigeria's new President faced both vast opportunity and grave challenges. Would the country flourish or founder in this new era? We will analyze key reforms in Nigeria's economy, significant political developments, and the choices facing the country's fast-growing private sector.

Why did Nigeria fail to thrive between 1960 and 1999, particularly relative to China and India?

How would you characterize former President Obasanjo's legacy?

Are you bullish or bearish on the next fifteen years for Nigeria? What would make you change your mind? What opportunities do you see? What are the challenges (and risks)

Security Challenges Loom Over Buhari’s Re-election Bid
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-21-2018, 09:26 PM - No Replies

Quote:Muhammadu Buhari’s pledge to end Boko Haram’s Islamist insurgency in northeast Nigeria played a large part in his 2015 presidential election victory.

With elections approaching next year and Buhari,75, having declared his intention to seek a second, four-year term, the extent to which he has done that is coming under increasing scrutiny.

But as Africa’s most populous nation gears up for months of hard campaigning before the vote in February 2019, the former military ruler is not just facing questions about Boko Haram.

In recent months there has been a resurgence of clashes between farmers and nomadic herders — and a heavily politicised reaction — which could have an impact on polling.

Ryan Cummings, Africa analyst at the Signal Risk consultancy in South Africa, noted the violence “now accounts for more civilian casualties than the Boko Haram insurgency and may continue to do so in the foreseeable future”.

Elsewhere, criminal violence and kidnappings for ransom in some northern states have increased, while tensions persist from pro-Biafran separatists in the southeast.

– Boko Haram weakened –

In the 12 months before the last election, Boko Haram fighters ran riot across northeast Nigeria, capturing swathes of territory with the military seemingly unable to respond.

Buhari, who headed a military government in the 1980s, was seen as a better bet to end the violence, which has killed at least 20,000 since 2009.

He has achieved that to an extent but persistent attacks have undermined his repeated assertion that the militants have been virtually defeated.

“It is fair to say that President Buhari has failed in delivering on his promise to defeat Boko Haram within his first term,” said Cummings.

The group recently gave a clear indication of the threat it still poses by abducting 112 schoolgirls from Dapchi in Yobe state in almost a carbon copy of the Chibok kidnapping in 2014.

Buhari secured massive support across the mainly Muslim north in 2015. That looks unlikely to change significantly in 2019.

In the north’s biggest city and most populous state, Kano — a key election prize because of its size — people said Buhari had their vote for weakening Boko Haram.

But they warned he needed to take action against security threats elsewhere.

“That is where he is going to face his toughest challenge,” said Abdulhadi Ahmad, a garment trader.

– Herder-farmer violence –

Violence in the decades-old dispute between herders and nomadic farmers in the central states of Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, Plateau and Kogi has flared again in the past two years.

Buhari has been criticised for failing to stop the violence, which according to some estimates has killed more than 2,000 since the start of this year.

It will be a key issue in central states, where the Muslim north meets the mainly Christian south, that typically swing between parties.

In Benue, the head of the state’s tribal leaders, Chief Edward Ujege, said Buhari “does not deserve a single vote… because he has failed to give us security”.

The conflict, which is driven by land and resources, has been seen largely through the prism of Nigeria’s ethnic and religious identity politics.

The president of the ethnic Tiv Youths Organisation, Timothy Hembaor, indicated patronage will play a part: people in Benue will back Benue’s APC governor, even if he moves party, he said.

Buhari “shouldn’t even come here to campaign”, he added.

– No political will –

Amaechi Nwokolo, from the Roman Institute of International Studies in Abuja, said Buhari, whose candidacy still needs to be endorsed by his party, had already “most likely lost the vote in Benue”, an APC state.

“He may not win in many of the states that have gone up in flames and many people are going to use that against him around the country,” added the security analyst.

Ndi Kato, a campaigner for indigenous people in the central states, said the attacks put a way of life under threat and the government’s lack of action had caused outrage.

“We feel we cannot have four more years of this,” she said, adding there was “zero political will” to end the violence, which has made tens of thousands people homeless.

“All things being equal the Middle Belt won’t be voting for this government. However, we don’t know who they will be voting for — and that is another problem.”

Sex For Mark: Monica Osagie To Appear Before OAU Panel Tuesday

Quote:Friday OLOKOR , Jos

The alleged victim of sexual harassment by a lecturer in the Department of Accounting at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile - Ife , Ms. Monica Osagie , has been summoned to appear before the investigative panel probing the incident on Tuesday.

The invitation came barely 24 hours after her lawyer and and Executive Director of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre , Dr . Abiola Akiyode - Afolabi , claimed that the victim had not been invited by any panel .

But it was not clear why the letter dated April 19 2018 was not immediately released to her .

PUNCH can authoritatively report that Osagie was an MBA regular student of the OAU and was said to have gone into hiding since the sex - for- marks scandal broke out.

The letter inviting Osagie dated April 19 2018 from the Office of the Secretary , Post-Graduate College , was obtained by our correspondent on Saturday in Jos.

The letter with Ref . No: ADP 15/ 16/ H/1424 entitled : “ Re : Investigative panel on alleged harassment of a female student : Detailed audio recording : Request for the presentation of Miss Osagie Monica Oselode ” , was signed by the OAU Deputy Registrar and Post- Graduate College Secretary , Mrs. A . O . Fadeyibi .

The letter reads : “I write at the instance of the Provost , Post-Graduate College to invite you to appear before the investigative panel on alleged harassment of a female student detailed in audio recording at its meeting which will come up at 10 :00am on Tuesday April 24 2018.

“ Please be informed that on arrival , you are required to call the Secretary to the panel to facilitate your appearance before the panel . Thank you . ”

Akiyode - Afolabi had raised the alarm that Osagie , “ resorted to self help ” through audio recording after two lecturers approached by her for intervention disappointed her .

According to her , several efforts made by her in reporting her predicament to two senior lecturers in the Faculty of Administration were unsuccessful as they both refused to intervene, adding that she therefore resorted to to self- help in documenting her evidence.

Akiyode - Afolabi , a former Public Officer of the OAU Students Union Government , therefore called on the school authorities “ not to compromise the reputation of this old and respected university and its responsibility for protecting its students in a bid to covering the unethical and disgraceful behavior of individual lecturers.

Members of De Norsemen Kclub of Nigeria popularly known as Norsemen confraternity -literally showed their colours earlier today at a parade in Rivers state.

University Of Ibadan Ranked Among World’s Best
User Avatar Forum: Universities
Posted by: Edoman - 04-21-2018, 07:45 PM - No Replies

The university of Ibadan has secured a spot in the top 978 ranked universities in the world.

In the ranking released by the Times Higher Education, Nigeria’s premier university was ranked 801 alongside several others.

UI was also the only Nigerian university to make the list.

Earlier in 2016, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (AWRU) and the Center for World Universities Ranking (CWUR) released a list of the top 500 and 1000 world universities respectively and no Nigerian university was on the list.

CWUR said that Nigerian universities were not considered for the ranking because of lack of quality research.

AWRU, who did not give a reason for Nigeria’s absence, made it clear that the criteria for ranking were the number of alumni and staff publishing journals in Nature and Science, number of alumni and staff winning Nobel prizes and Field medals.

South Africa and Egypt had the highest number of universities on the list from the continent.

63 universities from the United states made it to the top 200 while 32 from the United Kingdom also made the cut.

The United States had 63 universities among the hundreds of schools considered.

The Bayelsa State Volunteers Services led by its secretary, Jacob Kurobo in it's bid to rid the State of crime has paraded a suspected arm robber to the Nigeria Police in Yenagoa. Mr. Jacob Kurobo, popularly known as Don.J said the criminal was apprehended and handed to the police is in line with Governor Seriake Dickson's yearning for zero tolerance for crime and criminality in the State.

The Secretary averred that he has discovered that the issue of cultism and armed robbery was going viral in the state, therefore both are serious offence before the law, but ceased the opportunity to warn that Bayelsa state was not created for cultism and that the volunteers are prepared to flush out the menace in the state.”

He, however, noted that the Bayelsa Volunteers is irrevocably committed to work with the police and the various security agencies to rid the state of crime and criminality in order to promote peace.

The notorious robber was nabbed in Barrath road , Biogbolo, after raiding the neighborhood around 1am.

Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has continued his attack on President Muhammadu Buhari, over his comments on the youths in Nigeria.

Buhari, speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on Wednesday , said youths prefer to do nothing because they feel Nigeria is an oil-rich nation.

According to the President, a lot of Nigerian youths have not been to school, yet they want everything free.

In a series of tweets posted on his verified Twitter page on Friday, Fayose claimed Buhari got into the Army at 19 and became a Second Lieutenant without O’Level certificate.

“Under President Buhari; a man who got everything as a youth despite his academic limitations, farms are no longer safe for our youths who have taken to farming. They are being murdered by herdsmen and the President is looking the other way. Within 3 years, over 10m jobs lost!

“If Nigeria was without opportunities for the youths like this when President Buhari was a youth,he would have probably ended up as a local farmer, rearing cows in Daura. But he had opportunity of joining the army at 19 & becoming a 2nd Lieutenant at 21 without O’Level certificate,” the Governor wrote.

Arewa Youths React To Buhari's Lazy Nigerian Youths: "We Are Disappointed"
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-21-2018, 02:35 PM - No Replies

Northern youths under the auspices of Arewa Youths Consultative Forum on Friday went hard on President Muhammadu Buhari over his recent remarks in London that a lot of young persons in the country prefer to sit without working, stressing that the criticism is an insult on all Nigerian youths.

The Arewa youths, who spoke through their national president, Yerima Shettima, in an exclusive chat with MC EBISCO said they have heard Buhari’s remarks at the Commonwealth Business Forum in London and are biding their time till 2019 to let the President know whether they are actually jobless and lazy.

Recall that presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina had accused mischievous persons of twisting the comment by his principal, who he quoted as saying, “a lot of them (young Nigerians) have not been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria has been an oil producing country, therefore they should sit and do nothing and get housing, healthcare and education free”.

But reacting, Yerima stated that Adesina’s attempt at clarification does not make any difference, adding that since Buhari’s comment became public knowledge, he has been getting calls from youths across the north, expressing anger over the comment from the Nigerian leader.

He said it was bad enough that the president spoke in an international event where other nationalities were present, stressing that it was regrettable that the President would speak so of younger Nigerians who put their lives on the line to install the Buhari government.

“From the moment that statement was out, there have been a lot of complaints and grumbles from various people from my place, and they kept calling. The complaints were too much that I was compelled to issue a statement.

“Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have said anything because I am not surprised to see that kind of statement because the government does not believe in the Nigerian youths from inception.

“If you look at the arrangement, the appointment, and how the government relates with the youths of this country, you will see that they do not have respect for the Nigerian youths despite the contributions of the youths. Don’t forget that the youths put their lives on the line to fight against the previous government but when it comes to sharing the goodies of government, the youths are nowhere to be found.

“We are completely disappointed in Buhari and we will never make this mistake again,” Yerima said.

Scamming Syndicate Busted In Ondo State, Charms And Fetish Items Recovered
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Another suspected member of the notorious scammers’ Syndicate that one Wasiu from Ore, Ondo state - an HIV victim, said collected about N4M from him on the pretext to give him the cure for the disease - has been nabbed. The scam syndicate allegedly hid the assorted cars bought within the period of this scam in the compound of the arrested suspect identified as Owoseni Taye..

One of his rooms had a mini shrine, according to a report posted by Mercy Dabs communications.

The victim had earlier explained how he fell into their hands. He said he received a mobile phone line recharge pin from an unfamiliar phone number with a short note that reads “sell this recharge card for your transport fare home…” The event next to this was a call from the same line, telling him the SMS was sent to him in error and begging him to send it back to them.

Consequent upon the return of the SMS, he received another call from the line appreciating him for the good gesture. At the peak of their conversation, the old man on phone did as though he saw vision concerning me. “He told me I am living with a deadly disease, but I said know. But when he convinced me the more, I affirmed his word.”

Wasiu, whom a few other members of his family have also contracted the disease, deeply fell into them before discovering himself.

But, a 69-year-Old member of the syndicate, Adedayo Akinjisola from Ondo, has confessed recently that the matter of the victim was brought to them by somebody very close to him (the victim).

When Omo Edema launched investigation into the matter, Taye Owoseni (Taye Falekulo, Taye Yahoo) was the person the group first sent, fronted by a popular radio presenter in Ondo. They claimed innocent to the real evil taking place at the shrine in the bush at Abusoro after Okenla .

He declared specifically that the house (shrine) was built by their father, but claimed not to know who letted it out among the members of their family.

2019: How APC Would Hurt PDP – Makarfi
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-21-2018, 12:40 PM - No Replies

A former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has revealed why the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has not merged with any other political party yet.

He said if the PDP is not careful going through the process of merging with other parties, it may result to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, hurting and sending the main opposition party into extinction.

He said the APC may end up shutting the PDP out of the 2019 elections.

Speaking in an interview with The Sun, Makarfi, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, said “Merger is a technical issue that…except if we simplify it by legislation.

“This government the way they work, if you play into their hands they will extinguish you because before you merge you have to dissolve as a political party and surrender your licenses.

“If you do that and government interferes with INEC and they don’t approve for you, even if you go to court it will take a long time. By that time maybe the elections are over.

“So you have to look at the kind of government you are having. If you are having an open, democratic government that does not interfere you can consider a lot of things.

“But when you are dealing with a set of people that are very vicious the way they approach things you have to be very careful what you adopt to the play towards 2019 otherwise you will fall into a trap and you may not be able to come out of it.”

Kemi Adeosun To World Bank: "We Don’t Need Your Help On Our Debts
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-21-2018, 12:37 PM - No Replies

While speaking with journalists at the ongoing Spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund. The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun has said Nigeria does not need the help of the World Bank in assessing its debts level.

“We don’t need the World Bank if they want to come and help us, great, but we don’t need them,” the minister said while emphasizing that Nigerians and the Debt Management Office (DMO), are all the FG needs in assessing the nation’s debt level.

She also said the Nigerian government had no other option than to borrow to bring the country out of recession.

The Minister said, “There were two options to end recession; one was cut back, lay people off and wait for oil prices to recover or be more aggressive, expand your budget, take on more debts and invest in infrastructure in hope that you will get growth going to develop more revenue.

We’ve expanded our budget, we pumped money into the economy, we made sure recession was not prolonged.

We are now back into growth, we need to accelerate that growth and focus on revenue mobilization which in turn will reduce our debt pressures. If we were still in recession, we’d have far bigger problems.

I think what people haven’t realized is how much work had to be done to make sure that that recession was as short as possible because that would have caused real pain for the people. We shortened it, we had to borrow to do so and we make no apologies for that.”

Plot to remove Saraki, reinstate Omo-Agege

…There will not be change of leadership—Saraki

…It was an attempted coup – Ahman Aliyu Pategi

…We’ll hold Executive responsible for any harm on lawmakers —Ohaneze

…Invasion a threat to democracy – Ekweremadu

…NLC calls for probe

…Embarrassment on our security structure— Ekweremadu

Quote:By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor, Levinus, Emeka Mamah, Victor Ahiuma-Young, Henry Umoru Nwabughiogu, Marie-Therese Nanlong & Gabriel Olawale

INVESTIGATIONS by Saturday Vanguard have revealed that last Wednesday’s invasion of the National Assembly was a scripted plot to force the reinstatement of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and instigate the removal of the Senator Bukola Saraki leadership of the Senate.

It was learned that the conspiracy stirred by 15 senators was directed at provoking a confrontation that would have led to a pandemonium.

Three vocal senators, who the dissenting senators hoped to trigger a fight that would have led to the pandemonium, were, however, absent at the sitting.

Residence of a former governor

Senate sources privy to the development told Saturday Vanguard that the 15 senators, who planned the insurrection at the Abuja residence of a former governor presently serving in the Senate had hoped that Senators Dino Melaye, APC, Kogi West, Enyinnanya Abaribe, PDP, Abia South or Obinna Ogba, PDP, Ebonyi would have engaged the invaders and thus triggered a commotion that would have led to the invasion of the Senate chambers by security services.
That meeting in the night followed an earlier evening meeting at the National Assembly complex, Senate sources said.

However, by happen stance, the three senators, who the group of 15 hoped to trigger the crisis were absent that Wednesday, thereby preventing the envisaged crisis.

“To achieve the dual purpose of removing the Senate leadership, especially with the absence of the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who is on an official trip to Washington, USA, and the reinstatement of Senator Omo-Agege, it was concluded that the mace should be forcefully taken away,” a source revealed.

Calculation of the plotters

The source added that: “The calculation of the plotters was that some hot-blooded Senators like Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Obinna Ogba would not allow the mace to go without making serious trouble. In the process, there would be fisticuffs and pandemonium in the red chambers,” the source close to the Senate leadership added.

“The mace would not only be taken away, but the armed invaders would use the opportunity to deal with some ‘heady’ Senators’, including the presiding officer, Ike Ekweremadu. However, it happened that Senators Dino, Ogba, and Enyinnaya Abaribe were not on in the chamber when the assailants came.”

It was further gathered that the expectation was that following the mayhem a motion for adjournment of the sitting to allow heads to cool would have followed.

The plan was that after the adjournment, the group of 15 senators would return to the Senate chambers with the mace earlier grabbed and hold a sitting during which they would have suspended the Senate leadership and elected another leadership.

The first task after that would have been to lift the suspension on Senator Omo-Agege.

“I am thanking God that Dino was not around because by the time he came he was so angry that the thugs were allowed to go away with the mace. He was saying that they would have killed him with the mace that Wednesday,” the source revealed to Saturday Vanguard.

Despite insinuations of the alleged role of security services in the plot, Saturday Vanguard has not been able to lay a direct connection between any of the security services and the 15 senators involved.

Divisional Police Officer

It was nevertheless gathered that the Divisional Police Officer of the National Assembly was not taken into confidence of the plot to invade the National Assembly.

The DPO, it was learned, was sold the dummy that the Shiites who had been protesting in Abuja were coming to the National Assembly that day. It was when he went to organise reinforcement for the National Assembly that Senator Omo-Agege came in.

Before Omo-Agege came in, a senator from the North-Central and a key leader of the Buhari Parliamentary Support Group to which Omo-Agege belongs had stepped out to make a call.
“We suspected that he went to inform the group that the DPO had left and that they could come,” the source added.

Saturday Vanguard further gathered that it was when the DPO returned from the gate where he went for mobilisation that he discovered what happened and directed that the main gate into the National Assembly be locked. However, the thugs had left the National Assembly premises unchallenged at the time.

Waiting for the men to strike

A senator said: “If there was no compromise, how was it possible for a vehicle to park in front of the foyer, the entrance to the Senate, waiting for the men to strike without being questioned.

“Why was the gate which leads to the Presidential Villa where the President and Commander in Chief of the Federation do come from when entering the National Assembly opened?

“The gate which is always manned by men of the Department of State Services, DSS was manned by the operatives, and it was from there the thugs escaped. We will know the truth later.”

Reacting to the development, the Senate President, Sen Bukola Saraki, cautioned those behind the saga, spoiling for change of leadership.

Saraki, who was represented by Sen Ben Murray-Bruce at TheNiche 4th anniversary lecture, said this in Lagos yesterday:
“What happened was a disgrace and did not make any sense. Looking at it critically, they were working for change in Senate leadership, but they left what they were supposed to do and engaged in the undemocratic act.

“If you want to impeach a President all you need to do is to put it to vote and the majority will have their way instead of stealing the mace.

“Come to think of it, behind us is where President lives. So to escape through the back where the President leaves considering the presence of security agents gives room for many questions that need answers.

“There will be no regime change. They are only wasting time.

Similarly, a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ahmam Aliyu Pategi, said: “Those who invaded the National Assembly complex and stole the mace actually attempted to cow the legislators into abandoning the chambers so that they can take over. It was an attempted coup.’’

A former President of Aka Ikenga, Mr. Goddy Uwazuruike, said: “The desecration of the hallowed chamber of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a forewarning to those who believe in democracy. The antics of the anarchist is to intimidate the various arms of government.
“The arrest of Senator Omo-Agege may be a palliative but definitely not the answer to the question.’’

The Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Peter Azi, said: “As a lawmaker and the leader of parliament, I will not give credence to what happened. It is very pathetic and politically unhealthy. Whatever happened, the mace is the symbol of authority. ‘’

Likewise, Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Plateau State said: “It is a sad and unfortunate commentary on our democracy and a confirmation that everything is wrong with our security architecture.’’

Chairman, Plateau Youths Council, PYC, Dr. Jemchang Fabong, said: “What happened was a threat to democracy, not just that, it was a mockery of the system. All these didn’t start today. We have seen the practice of our democracy going down, no thanks to the people we voted to lead us.’’

Also speaking, a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa described the invasion as an act of treason.

He said:”It has never happened in the history of this country. It was a disruption of the Senate sitting. If someone disrupts their (senators) right to sit, it means disruption of a government proceeding. It is against section 412 of the Penal Code.’’

Deputy National Chairman of Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, Mrs. Marie Okwo, said: “This is the beginning of chaos in the in the country. There is anarchy in the land. There is no leadership in this country; there is so much confusion and calamity.’’

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has condemned the invasion of the Senate by armed thugs, saying the entry of the National Assembly which was one of the “most-secured environment in Nigeria gives course for suspicion.”

Ohanaeze said it was even more worried because the attack was targeted at the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who was the only Igbo man occupying a top position in the country alongside other law makers.

President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, made this known in a statement signed by his Media Aide, Emeka Attamah.

According to Ohanaeze, the Igbo would hold the Executive arm of the Federal Government responsible, if anything ugly happened to Ekweremadu and other Nigerian law makers.

The statement entitled, “Senate Invasion: Ohanaeze Raises the Alarm Over Ekweremadu, Lawmakers’ Safety,” read in part, “The foremost Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has flayed the invasion of the Senate by armed men, saying it had genuine concerns over the life and safety of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and other lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly.

“Ohanaeze said it was still at loss as to how armed men were able to break into the National Assembly situated in the most secured area in the country.

“We join other patriotic Nigerians in condemning this reprehensible gangsterism and attack on the parliament and our democracy.

“However, the breach of security in an otherwise most-secured environment in Nigeria gives course for suspicion. We know for certain that there are several security checks before one can access the National Assembly Complex.

“We are also aware that it takes the motion for the suspension of the Order 17 of the Senate Standing Rule before anybody outside the Senators and chamber staff is allowed access into the Senate Chamber.

“It is also common knowledge that the National Assembly Complex is surrounded by the Presidential Villa, headquarters of the Department of State Services, DSS and the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, among others. So, how on earth did the assailants escape with the mace?

“We watched on live television and the other footages of the incident, how the invaders moved menacingly towards the Deputy Senate President before he was whisked away to safety by his security guards.

“With a hindsight of the attempt on Senator Ekwremadu’s life in November 2015 but which the security agencies refused to investigate or say a word about, we have genuine cause to believe that the attack on the Senate chamber by armed men on a day the Senate was in session and with the Senator Ekwremadu presiding had more sinister motives than met the eye
“The 1999 Constitution (as amended) is very clear that the primary purpose of government is the welfare of citizens and the protection of their lives and property.

“We wish to state unequivocally that with all the legitimate instruments for the protection of lives and property, including those of the lawmakers and the parliament, firmly in the hands of the executive arm of government, Ndigbo and the world know whom to hold responsible should any harm befall the Senator or other lawmakers and parliamentary staff.

“Senator Ekweremadu is just the one eye with which Ndigbo are seeing in this administration that have unabashedly sidetracked the South East. He is the only Igbo man occupying a principal and non-appointive position in the top hierarchy of the Federal Government today and we believe that there should be limits to political rascality.”

Ohanaeze further stressed that although Ekweremadu was attacked in the media by some government functionaries and agencies when he warned a few weeks ago that the nation’s democracy was receding and derailing, the invasion of the National Assembly in broad daylight had further proved him right.

“Unfortunately, the Nigerian political class appears to have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing, Ohanaeze also stated.

Reacting to the invasion, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday said the invasion was a violation of the sanctity of the Senate which constitutes a threat to our democracy, adding that the National Assembly Security apparatus should be probed for laxity or compromise.

According to the statement issued by the leadership of the union: “The invasion of the hallowed chamber of the Senate on Wednesday by hoodlums and miscreants who carted away the mace and other paraphernalia of authority is a violation of the sanctity of the Senate and constitutes a threat to our democracy.

It represents a throw-back to those dark old days we are better off without. It is equally a sad commentary on the quality of representation.

We do also believe that the National Assembly Security apparatus should be called to question for laxity or compromise. Whereas they have often distinguished themselves by keeping at bay constituents and peaceful protesters from the precincts of the National Assembly, these thugs seem to have walked on a laid red carpet.

Could these agencies have been acting alone? What is the degree of their complicity? Whichever way, we condemn this primitive conduct and demand sanctions. Let it never happen again. There are better methods no matter the issues.”

We therefore condemn it in its entirety. We similarly invite all who love Nigeria to rise and condemn this crude and sordid act or conduct.

Also, the deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said the invasion was a total embarrassment on the entire security structure and another lesson on the need to rethink the nation’s security structure.

Ekweremadu stated this yesterday when the leadership of Nigerian Political Science Association, NPSA, led by its President, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie visited him over the incident.

He said: “It is an embarrassment to Nigeria before the international community for someone to drive all the way into the National Assembly Complex, enter the hallowed chamber, and cart away its symbol of authority.

“It shows a breakdown of security and it is a setback to Nigeria’s drive for foreign investment because no one would be ready to invest money in such a system. So, it is a lesson that we cannot keep doing the same thing with our security system and expect a different result.

“It is also an irony that the people involved would organise armed bandits to rob the Senate of its mace since they understand the implication of what they have done. As a parliament, we will ensure that this does not happen again and insist that all the actors behind the drama are brought to book”.

He enjoined the Association to help the nation to rethink its governance and security structures in line with other federal systems.

Why Jonathan Is Responsible For Dividing Nigeria Not Buhari - Keyamo

@POLITICSNGR

Human rights lawyer and newly appointed Strategic Communications DG for the Muhammadu Buhari 2019 presidential campaign, Festus Keyamo has said that President Buhari did not divided Nigeria along ethnic and religious lines.

He disclosed that the division started during President Goodluck Jonathan's time in power, adding that Jonathan used it during the 2015 election campaign period. He told Sun;

"In 2015, you saw that this country was divided by the North/South sentiments and the Christians/ Muslim sentiments. Who made it happen?

In 2015, who used religion to campaign? Certainly not Buhari, he did not go to mosque publicly begging Imams and praying in the Mosque, lying down before Imams to bless him and tell their followers to vote for him. He (Buhari) did not do that, so when you say the country is more divided, is it as a result of him? Certainly no. It was because of the dynamism of the politics that brought him into office; the politics of that time under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

But luckily for us, God is a kind God, because you know what? On 2019, those people who preached evil against the Hausa – Fulani, those who told their people that these people are not good, those who told their people not to vote for Hausa /Fulani people because they have a mentality of born to rule, these are the same people that have zoned their presidential ticket to the North now.

So you know what? They will now go back to the same people that they preached hatred against to undo what they did. They will now see themselves cap in hands, with shame on their faces, they will go back to their people and say, the Hausa/ Fulani are not too bad, let us vote for them. And on that day, their people will question their integrity, but you told us in 2015 that the Hausa/ Fulani are not good people, why did you give your ticket to them now?"
