The World Is Watching A Repeat Of Rwanda – Middle Belt Group
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 04:10 PM - No Replies

Quote:May head to ICC, ECOWAS Court

ABUJA—WORRIED by the high rate at which ethnic nationalities are being cleansed by suspected herdsmen in the Middle Belt region, a socio-economic group, the Middle Belt Forum, MDF, said it is considering the option of taking the pogrom to the International Court of Justice, ICC, The Hague, to avert a repeat of the Rwandan genocide in Nigeria.

The forum, which expressed grave concerns over the ongoing killings of natives by herdsmen in the region, especially in Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Plateau and Kogi states, regretted that the world is watching while the situation is gradually snowballing into another Rwanda.

Speaking in Abuja, the President of Middle Belt forum, Dr. Bala Takaya, said the next line of action if the killings continue unabated might be to go to ICC, ECOWAS Court, or to other areas of redress.

According to him, “That is part of our dealings and I don’t think I have to go into detail as to what we are doing about that right now. But we are concerned that this thing is in public, worldwide, just like it happened in Rwanda, the world was watching and killings were going on until the whole thing came to a point where hundreds of thousands of lives were lost before the world woke up to realise that they could have done something to stop the killings in Rwanda. And similarly, this is happening in Nigeria.

“It started gradually in Rwanda. And it is starting gradually here in Nigeria. Probably, even at a higher speed in Nigeria. But the world is watching.

Newspapers are reporting, you have embassies in Nigeria, of the metropolitan countries, I believe they are filing reports to their principals in their countries and the world is doing nothing.

“Must we be wiped out like mosquitoes before they wake up and realise that our people have gone? That is the point that we are making. As to go to ICC, ECOWAS Court, or other areas of redress, leave that one for us; maybe it is next thing we will address.”

The Forum, however, blamed the ongoing pogrom and wanton destruction of lives and property of Middle Belt aborigines by Fulani herdsmen on lopsided appointments of security chiefs, and urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately restructure the security architecture to reflect the Federal character as stipulated in the Nigerian constitution.

Dr. Takaya said the killer Fulani herdsmen are now a law onto themselves, adding, “They kill, maim and rape at will. They even brag that in this (Middle Belt) region they (the killer Fulani) have immunity that is superior even to those of our governors and their deputies.”

He continued: “As such, in the Middle Belt region, lives of human beings are now cheaper than those of cows. Hundreds of lives are being lost in Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Southern Kaduna, Plateau and recently, Kogi State. There is virtually no part of the Middle Belt of Nigeria that is peaceful, making even feeding a major problem. On another side, we do not consider it amusing that the killer Fulani militias demonstrate their power or influence over this government by always choosing to strike as soon as the President rounds off a tour of the despoiled states with even greater viciousness.

“President Buhari should proscribe and declare Fulani herdsmen militia a terrorist organisation immediately.
He should remember that even the Global Terrorist index Fulani herdsmen as the fourth most dangerous group in the world.’’

2 truck drivers and a motorboy who reportedly refused to give out bribe to SARS officers in Ogun State, were reportedly shot by the security operatives.

An Instagram user @tushcompere, who shared a video of victims of the shooting who he confirmed were badly injured and taken to the hospital, wrote;

Quote:Happening now!!!Sars official in Ota shot 2 trailer drivers and 1 motorboy at Honda bustop after Obasanjo farms. 2 of them are badly injured and have been rushed to the hospital. while the last one got wounded on the right hand.
Right now. My car is Infront of the protest so am joining the protest to prevent damage of my property by trailer boys who brought 10trailers to block both sides of the road. Heavy road block and protest like never before.
What happened[Image: huh.png]
A trailer parked to give fuel to another trailer who was low on fuel, SARS officials in a yellow bus crossed them and demanded for settlement. One thing led to another and they open fire on the drivers. I was in my car at first then I left and ran away but I came back to join the protest to prevent them from spoiling my car. I am not a Lazy Nigerian ooooo.

#BBnaija: Cee-c Explains Why She Brought Trouble Into The House
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 03:08 PM - No Replies

Quote:The top 5 Big Brother Naija housemates, Miracle, Cee-C, Nina, Tobi and Alex are already out for a media tour, and they’ve been addressing some incidents which occurred while they were still in the house.

Cee-C who was interpreted to be a bitter person following her attitude on the show, said she brought ‘Double Wahala’ to the show because she saw the theme as ‘trouble’.
Cee-C who sat for an interview with Africa Magic TV, said; ”Wahala, I think, is trouble, the housemates see Cee-c as troublesome, so, I think I brought the double wahala to the house.”

She however noted that she will never lose herself for anyone.
”No matter the situation or circumstance I will never lose my self.
”There were times when I thought changing myself will make people like me but I did not lose myself because I know what I wanted”.

On the other hand, it seems Cee-C is getting all she never won on the show now she is out of the Big Brother House, as we just gathered that she just got another endorsement from a shapewear and lingerie store, alongside Nina.
@slimgirlshapewear wrote on Instagram; Over the years we (@Slimgirlshapewear and our American Store @bodyfabshop) have had endorsements with Khloé Kardashian, Blac Chyna, Amber Rose, Toya Wright, Reginae, Tiny and many more. We have NEVER had a Nigerian Brand Ambassador.Today, we announce that we are offering Cynthia Nwadiora and Chinonso Nina an opportunity to be our very first Nigerian Brand Ambassadors for our Product lines including, affordable shapewear, swimwear and clothes. We want to congratulate these ladies.Thank you. This came after Cee-C’s sister confirmed that she wasn’t assaulted at the Lagos Airport, rather it was her fans who were trying to get photos from her that caused the confusion. Here’s what was was written on Cee-C’s Instagram page; Hey Guys.Cee-C is safe and she’s good as well. Thank You For Your Concerns. She Can’t Wait To Talk To Everyone. She’s really Overwhelmed by the Love

Fathers Joseph Gor And Felix Tyolah Killed By Fulani Headsmen In Benue (Photos)
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 02:32 PM - No Replies

@APROKOGIRL

Official: Media Director of Catholic Diocese of Makurdi , Fr Moses Iorapuu Confirmed Two Priests dead in AYAR, Fulani Attack.

Fathers Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha have been confirmed dead in the deadly attack by herdsmen early today on Mbalom village of St. Ignatius Quasi Parish Ukpor-Mbalom.

In their classic style they burn down homes, destroy food items and kill. The police seem to know nothing of the attacks which have been going on in other villages within Benue State since the Anti Open Grazing Law came into effect last year.

Many people are asking why the International community has remained silent over the massacre of Benue citizens? The answer is simple: It has been the goal of the jihadists to conquer Benue and Tiv people who resisted their advance into the middle belt since 1804; the people who rejected Islam and fought for the unification of Nigeria in the civil war of 1967 - 1970.

The people of the East therefore have little sympathy for Benue people and the Muslim North is enjoying a sweet revenge overshadowed by an insensitive regime. There were over 170.000 internally displaced persons before the Naka invasion and surely with the current situation in Mbalom Benue will be flooded with thousands more.

What cannot be said at this point is the consequences of the death of missionaries in the silent killings that have been siloed by the government for over a year.

The diocese has been active in providing relief materials including education and skills acquisition lessons. To go for the priests means total destruction of everything we stand for and believe in!

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA- CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Senator Dino Melaye, APC, Kogi West has been arrested by operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS.

Vanguard gathered that Senator Melaye was this morning, taken to the SARS detention facility located just opposite the old Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN junction along the Area 1 expressway.

The SARS detention facility is reputed for imprisoning hardened criminals arrested for theft, murder, cultism and other criminal acts.

It was gathered that the Nigeria Police Force forcefully carried out the arrest of Melaye without arrest warrant or court order.

In a telephone conversation this morning, Senator Mekaye however sounded rattled, as background conversation suggested a struggle between himself and some of the operatives after which his mobile lines were switched off.

Recall that initial attempts were made by the police to arrest Senator Melaye after immigration officials disembarked him from a flight to Morocco on Monday morning.

Following his release after three hours detention at the immigration office at the airport, the lawmaker’s house was besieged by over 80 armed police men from noon yesterday until the early hours of Tuesday.

Details later…

APC Convention: Chairmen In Four South-south States
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 11:24 AM - No Replies

Quote:Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all but two of the six states in the south-south have denied endorsing Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo state, for the chairmanship position of the party.

At a press conference on Monday, they said John Oyegun, chairman of the ruling party, reserved the right to seek reelection.

The state chairmen are Davies Ikanya, Rivers; Joseph Fafi, Bayelsa; Etim John, Cross River; Amadu Attai, Akwa ibom.

They had stormed out of the south-south zonal caucus meeting held at the Edo state government house on Monday in protest of what they said were plans by Godwin Obaseki, governor of the state, and Hilliard Eta, zonal vice-chairman of the APC, to adopt Oshiomhole as the consensus chairmanship candidate of the region.

“We were here for a meeting only to be ambushed by the national vice chairman of the party to adopt a preconceived candidate,” Ikanya said.

“Yesterday (Sunday), we held a meeting which he attended, only for him to come and manipulate, sort out every suggestion and he is trying to say he has come out with a resolution. First, I want us to know that the zonal executive committee does not have the power to elect, nominate or to adopt candidates for national offices.

“It is the national convention that can do that. Secondly, there are very senior members in the zone that were shut out of this meeting purposely. Number one, the national chairman of the party who is from this zone and the national vice chairman of the party ought to sought the permission of the national chairman of the party even to convene this meeting because the constitution states that the national vice chairman shall assist the national chairman.

“So, in this zone where we have a sitting chairman and he is not invited to a meeting, you have six ministers, you have former governors, you have very senior citizens of this zone and they were shut out of the meeting only for the national vice chairman to ambush everybody, ignore every motion that was moved, even when somebody moved a motion that he should disqualify himself having shown bias from the beginning in this meeting, he still sat there and he is saying to the public that there was a resolution.

“We want you to know that out of the states of the zone, four states are saying that this was an ambush, it was not acceptable, there was no resolution. We have said that every person is free to run in the election.

We stand by the resolution of the national executive committee (NEC) that there is waiver. The national chairman can recontest if he wants to recontest, any other person from the zone can recontest if they want to recontest. What has happened in this meeting is a farce, is not binding on anybody, it is null and void.

Four states are saying no, whereas just two states – Edo and some parts of Delta are the people that are saying that they have a resolution. This is not how democracy should be practiced. Arising from this meeting today, the majority view is that there is no consensus on any candidate.”

On his part, Fafi said: “I want to also align myself with my colleagues from other states that they are not aware of what happened here. It is undemocratic, unexpected and a complete fraud and we dissociate ourselves from what has happened here and we believe that the election should be open to any interested candidate from the South South and the people will decide who to vote for and not the decision of Edo state.”

John and Attai also spoke in a similar manner.

The national executive committee (NEC) of the party had extended the tenure of the national working committee (NWC) led by Oyegun by a year but some leaders of the party kicked against it and even headed to the court.

President Muhammadu Buhari who was also in support of the tenure extension later opposed it, insisting on another convention.
The convention is slated for next month.

US Damning Human Rights Report On Nigeria, Released 10 Days Before Buhari Visits
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 11:16 AM - No Replies

The United States government on Friday released a damning human rights report on Nigeria, saying grave violations continued to increase in 2017 while officials who perpetrated them were almost never prosecuted by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Why it matters: President Buhari is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on April 30, and both men would likely discuss further U.S. military assistance to Nigeria against the backdrop of serious human rights violations by security forces who use the same weapons to kill civilians.

The U.S. annual report on global human rights violations, released in Washington D.C. on Friday afternoon, said the administration of President Buhari “took steps to investigate alleged abuses, but fewer steps to prosecute officials who committed violations, whether in the security forces or elsewhere in the government”.
“Impunity remained widespread at all levels of government. The government did not adequately investigate or prosecute most of the major outstanding allegations of human rights violations by the security forces or the majority of cases of police or military extortion or other abuse of power,” the report said.

It said the most significant human rights issues included extrajudicial and arbitrary killings; disappearances and arbitrary detentions; torture, particularly in detention facilities, including sexual exploitation and abuse; use of children by some security elements, looting, and destruction of property.

There were also civilian detentions in military facilities, often based on flimsy evidence; denial of fair public trial; executive influence on the judiciary; infringement on citizens’ privacy rights; restrictions on freedoms of speech, press, assembly, and movement

This was in addition to official corruption; lack of accountability in cases involving violence against women and children, including female genital mutilation/cutting and sexual exploitation of children; trafficking in persons; early and forced marriages; criminalization of status and same-sex sexual conduct based on sexual orientation and gender identity; and forced and bonded labor.

The report recognized that Boko Haram terror group also committed a myriad of human rights violations, killing and torturing and imprisoning women and children and bombing entire villages.

“The groups conducted numerous attacks on government and civilian targets that resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries, widespread destruction, the internal displacement of approximately 1.8 million persons, and external displacement of an estimated 205,000 Nigerian refugees to neighboring countries, principally Cameroon, Chad, and Niger,” the report said.

Boko Haram’s numerous attacks often targeted civilians. The group, which recruited and forcefully conscripted child soldiers, carried out scores of suicide bombings–many by young women and girls forced into doing so–and other attacks on population centers in the Northeast and in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger.

“Abductions by Boko Haram continued. The group subjected many abducted women and girls to sexual and gender-based violence, including forced marriages and rape. The government investigated attacks by Boko Haram and ISIS-WA and took some steps to prosecute their members, although the majority of suspected insurgent group supporters were held in military custody without charge,

“In its response to Boko Haram and ISIS-WA attacks, and at times in response to crime and insecurity in general, security service personnel perpetrated extrajudicial killings and engaged in torture, sexual exploitation and abuse, arbitrary detention, mistreatment of detainees, use of children by some security elements, looting, and destruction of property. The country also suffered from ethnic, regional, and religious violence,” the report added.

Offa Robbery: Bank Sacks Employees Over CCTV Footage Leakage
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 10:26 AM - No Replies

Quote:The management of one of the commercial banks attacked by robbers in Offa, Kwara State, has reportedly sacked five of its workers for releasing Closed Circuit Television footage of the robbery to the public.

A reliable source in the bank said the management viewed the release of the footage without official approval as “gross indiscipline,” which was capable of affecting the security and image of the bank.

PUNCH Metro had reported that on Thursday, April 5, armed robbers invaded five banks in Offa, Kwara State, killing scores of residents, including policemen, bank workers and passersby.

The assailants were said to have carted away millions of naira as they robbed the banks for about one hour without any challenge from security agents.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ado Lawan, who put the casualty figure at 17, said nine policemen died during the attack.

The Operations Commander, Vigilance Group of Nigeria, Offa, Kwara State chapter, Wasiu Adepoju, however, said vigilantes in the state counted 50 dead bodies.

A video clip of the incident had gone viral shortly afterwards, revealing how the robbers enterendent learnt that the management of the bank was surprised at how the video got into public space and sacked five of its workers last Friday.

The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, said the Nigeria Police Force would also deal with anyone linked to the robbery.

Okesanmi spoke in response to reports that the Divisional Crime Officer and the Divisional Police Officer of the Offa Police Station allegedly failed to take necessary actions before the robbers attacked.

It was also said that the robbers only collected the phones of the DPO and the DCO and allowed them to escape.

Okasanmi said both civilians and uniformed men linked to the incident would not go scot-free.

While saying that investigation was ongoing, he noted that the police were determined to get to the root of “persistent robberies” in Offa.

“Whether civilian or police, whoever is found culpable would be dealt with accordingly,” he added.

In another development, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, and the Elerin of Erin Ile, Oba Abdulganiyu Ajibola, have said two neighbouring communities in Kwara State had decided to cohabit peacefully after some years of conflict.

They spoke during a peace summit in Ilorin organised by the Ladorb Peace Initiative.

The people of Offa, in the Offa Local Government Area, and Erin Ile, in the Oyun LGA of the state, had been embroiled in community clashes which had led to the loss of many lives and destruction of property.

Ajibola commended the efforts of the conveners, saying his people were ready for peace.

He advised stakeholders to allow peace to reign, adding that peace and unity would boost development and prosperity.

Gbadamosi, who was represented by a high chief, Chief Yunusa Oyeyemi, said Offa people believed in peace.

He appealed to residents of the areas to speak the truth and imbibe the spirit of forgiveness for a lasting solution.

The chairman of the organising committee, Ladorb Peace Initiative, Umar Balogun, said the conflicts had discouraged investments and slow development in the areas.

Fani-kayode Backs CAN On Buhari, Hails Oyedepo
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 10:19 AM - No Replies

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has hailed Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church and the Christian Association of Nigeria on their recent comments over the state of the nation.

He quoted Rev. Sampson O. Ayokunle, CAN President, as likening the leadership style of Buhari to a blind man leading men that could see.

Fani-Kayode wrote, “How can a semi-illiterate lead a nation of almost 200 million people? It is like a blind man leading men that can see!

“Rev. Sampson O. Ayokunle, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Port Harcourt, 23rd April 2018.”

He also supported the Sunday’s outburst by Oyedepo where he pointedly told Buhari that God was angry with him,

The ex-minister wrote, “Can I tell you my anger against this Government? No feeling for human lives. You know what God said? I am angry with the wicked everyday. You see where “change” has brought us today since 2015? If you bring the scoresheet out, it is 0%. You better wake up so you don’t suffer the Nigerian kind of change. Defending killers! God’s judgement will hit! If you are happy with what God is angry with, you are ungodly. Those who have made others childless, wifeless, husbandless, so shall they become! Bishop David Oyedepo, Winners Chapel, Canaan Land, Ota, 22nd April 2018.”

Buhari Misled To Approve $469m For Fighter Jets Without NASS Backing - The Cable
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 10:10 AM - No Replies

Quote:President Muhammadu Buhari was misled to approve $469 million for the procurement of 12 Super Tucano aircraft from the US without the backing of the national assembly, a source told TheCable.

The money was said to have been withdrawn from the excess crude account (ECA).

In August, the US government sold the aircraft to Nigeria to enable it combat the Boko Haram insurgency in the north-east.

An embargo had been placed on Nigeria owing to allegations of gross human right abuses against the military.

In a letter to the leadership of the national assembly dated April 13, 2018, the president explained that the United States had given Nigeria a deadline for payment, hence the reason he approved the money without consulting the legislators.

Buhari also sought the inclusion of the procurement of the aircraft into the 2018 budget which the national assembly is still working on.

The source said the lawmakers, particularly those in house of representatives, are not happy with the development, adding that the president cut short his UK trip in order to address the issue.

In the statement issued to announce Buhari’s trip, the date of his return was not disclosed.

“The approval for $469 million for Tucano aircraft is an impeachable offence. What us happening right now is that some people in the executive set Buhari up,” the source said.

“They made him send a letter to the national assembly and the letter is saying that money has already been disbursed without seeking approval which is an impeachable offence.

“This is part of the reason why the president came back into the country. He is thinking of calling the leadership of the national assembly for a meeting.

“These people gave the president wrong information. Right the house of representatives have a copy of the letter that the money had already been disbursed but then it has not been appropriated. A lot of members of the house are not happy.”

Efforts to get a reaction from Garba Shehu, spokesman of the president, were not successful as calls to his phone did not go through and a text message was not replied.

Mansur Dan-Ali, minister of defence, had said Buhari gave the approval for the money to be released but Ita Enang, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters, later contradicted Dan Ali.

The presidential aide said Buhari had not approved the release of the money from the excess crude account as claimed by the minister, adding that the approval given to the federal government by the national economic council was undergoing the “normal legislative process” before the national assembly.

AS SDP LEADERS REFUSE TO SACRIFICE FALAE

•SOUTHERN, N/CENTRAL LEADERS TO MEET IN ABUJA

Quote:By Kunle Oderemi

A series of high-level meetings, beginning from tomorrow, is taking place across the country, as politicians and other stakeholders fine-tune talks on forming a formidable opposition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is notwithstanding some obstacles said to be threatening the coalition under works because of the conditions being put forward by some kingmakers to become part of the overall game plan.

One of such demands is the wish of such power brokers to determine who should lead the opposition as national chairman.
Such condition was said to have rankled the ranks of some party faithful, especially in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who were said to have become extra-cautious as they stepped up moves to broaden the base of the party across the country.

Chieftains of the party have so far led powerful delegations to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-military President, General Ibarahim Babangida, ostensibly to seek their support, having passed a vote of no confidence in the President Muhammadu Buhari, weeks before he announced his reelection bid.

The schism in the camps of the pro-coalition forces came as the leaders of ethnic nationalities from the three zones in the South-West; South-South, South-East and the North-Central zone were busy at the weekend trying to finalise arrangements for a joint meeting in Abuja on the ongoing efforts to present a common front on fundamental issues ahead the elections.

According to sources, “the meeting coming up on Wednesday in Abuja is part of ongoing efforts by all the zones to further strengthen our collaboration and cooperation before the elections.”

Two major stakeholders informed Sunday Tribune that the leaders would work out strategies to make the demand for restructuring and devolution of powers the cornerstone of the elections.

Leaders of the representatives of the pan-Yoruba organisisation, Afenifere, Middle Belt Forum, Ohanaeze Ndigbo; South-South Forum, Ijaw National council among other mass-based bodies are among personalities expected at the meeting, one of the leaders said.

The parley will be preceded by a crucial meeting of leaders of Afenifere from the South-West, as well as Kwara, Kogi and other parts of the country, to be held in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Tuesday.

Similarly, the national leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) are to meet in Abuja on Thursday, to receive reports on its ongoing consultations and discussions with influential politicians towards strengthening the SDP.

But there was schism over the purported romance of the party with former President Obasanjo for a working relationship.

His insistence on leadership change in the SDP was said not to have gone down well with main gladiators in the party.

Obasanjo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Falae, who was the joint standard-bearer of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the All Peoples Party (APP), slugged it out during the 1999 presidential election.
The former was declared the winner of the poll.

However, the SDP leaders were reportedly not favourably disposed to Obasanjo’s demand for a new leadership. Another party leader told Sunday Tribune that the SDP was neither disposed to any form of alliance nor a merger to form a new party because of the proximity of the series of elections that will culminate in the general election in 2019.

Coupled with that reason is what the party source noted was the fact such alliance had never worked in the history of the country.

“The condition he gave was that we should drop Falae as chairman. But, we insisted that he is the man we want as national chairman. It was a mere courtesy visit.

On the presidential race, the leaders said the SDP did not have any particular politician in mind so far, stressing that the leaders were being cautious in their interactions with Obasanjo so that they did not play into his hands, though “a lot of his political associates and members of his coalition have, on their own, opened discussion with the SDP.”

Diasporans Remit $22 Billion In 2017
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 10:03 AM - No Replies

Nigerians living outside the country remitted $22 billion in 2107, according to the data published by the World Bank on Monday. The amount is 16.4 percent higher than the amount sent home in 2016.

The total amount sent home reached a new record-high in 2017, however, the costs of transferring funds also surged, the report noted. The better than expected rebound in remittances, used in supporting economic activities in poor nations, was bolstered by growth in the United States, Europe, and Russia.

Also, the total remittances to low and middle-income nations rose from $429 billion in 2016 to $466 billion in 2017, an increase of 8.5 percent. While remittance inflows improved in all regions, the largest inflows were from India with $69bn, followed by China ($64bn), the Philippines ($33bn), Mexico ($31bn), Nigeria ($22bn), and Egypt ($20bn) in 2017.

The global average cost of sending $200 was put at 7.1 percent in the first quarter of 2018, and sub-Saharan Africa remains the most expensive at an average cost of 9.4 percent.

“While remittances are growing, countries, institutions, and development agencies must continue to chip away at high costs of remitting so that families receive more of the money,” said Dilip Ratha, lead author of the report.

By region, Europe and Central Asia saw the largest jump in 2017, rising by 21 percent, while Sub-Saharan Africa climbed by 11 percent in the same year.

UBA Shareholders Hail Performance, Higher Dividend Payout
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment

Shareholders of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc on Monday hailed the board and management of the bank for the impressive performance recorded in 2017 and were highly pleased with the remarkable contributions of its African subsidiaries that accounted for over 45 percent of the group’s income.

The shareholders gave the commendation at the 56th annual general meeting in Lagos. UBA posted profit after tax (PAT) of N78.6 billion for the 2017 financial year and recommended a total dividend of 85 kobo per share, which ratified at the AGM. Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman, Progressive Shareholders Association of Nigeria, Mr. Boniface Okezie: “I want to especially commend the management of UBA especially the Chairman, Tony Elumelu and Group Managing

Director/CEO, Kennedy Uzoka, who have been managing activities of this great institution for the past two years. We, the shareholders are impressed with results that you have recorded so far and the achievements that the bank has recorded under your leadership, especially the sterling contributions of our subsidiaries in Africa. We are especially impressed with what the bank has been doing in Africa. It has gone a long way to show that good things can come from Africa. UBA has showcased a high level of ingenuity in the banking space, and we are glad for how this is translating into gains for our business.”

Another shareholder, Mr. Timothy Adesiyan, commended the bank for being the first bank in Africa to embrace Artificial Intelligence technology into the banking space, through the introduction of UBA’s Leo. Also, speaking at the meeting, Nonah Awoh, who commended the bank for the performance, equally tasked the management to do more to ensure that all the African subsidiaries contribute at least 50 per cent to the bottom-line.

In his address to shareholders, Elumelu, said the bank recorded strong growth in both top and bottom lines in 2017.
He said: “Overall, our bank grew profit before tax by 16.1 per cent to N105.3 billion. More importantly, the bank remains financially strong, our balance sheet is well protected and our commitment to exceeding regulatory requirements remains. We recently opened for operations in Mali, because that economy is a viable one and would contribute to our bottom-line. Mali will benefit from UBA’s presence there while UBA will also benefit from Mali.”

On his part, Uzoka said: “UBA has built a great brand that is recognised all over the world, and because of this, we have decided to be outside-focused rather than inside-focused. Being outside focused means we are concentrating on putting our customers first in all we do by making sure that we do things from the customers’ standpoint.”

  Saraki, Tambuwal Give PDP Conditions
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 04-24-2018, 09:58 AM - No Replies

Quote:Posted By: Yusuf Alli

Will the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) grant the request of Senate President Bukola Saraki and some of its former members for a name change before rejoining the party?

The party is wooing Saraki, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, his predecessor, Senator Aliyu Wammako, former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and former Governor Danjuma Goje (Gombe) to return to its fold in order to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) next year.

They all left PDP in 2014 to form APC, which wrested power from PDP in the 2015 elections.

Although sources said yesterday that the request of the APC chieftains tagged as “game changers” had been “tactically rejected” by the National Executive Committee (NEC), PDP spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan claimed that no decision has been taken on the issue.

Another APC chieftain and former Zamfara State Governor Sani Ahmed Yerima, who was never in PDP, is being wooed by the opposition party.
About three APC governors from the Northwest are also on PDP’s radar.

But none of them, it was learnt, has made any commitment to return to PDP. They were said to be weighing the options.

The name change request is said to be a drawback for the talks.

There are fears that changing PDP’s name may truncate the tenure of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Prince Uche Secondus.

Some forces in the party also felt that the APC stalwarts should not be dictating to a party they “left in the lurch to lose the 2015 presidential election.”

A top member of (NEC), who spoke in confidence, said: “We have really opened up talks with Saraki and others. It is like we are begging them to return to their roots as part of a larger reconciliation policy in PDP.

”We want Tambuwal, Kwankwaso, Wammako, Goje and others in PDP because we see them as “game changers. We are also targeting ex-Governor Sani Ahmed Yerima of Zamfara State who has always been in the opposition until the APC coalition emerged.

“We have had series of shuttles to them by some of our leaders having discovered that they had been patching in APC. They have been stifled and abandoned in the coalition called APC. We want them to return to their natural habitat.

“The PDP has also initiated talks with three APC governors in the Northwest, which is the political base of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “None of these leaders has given the PDP any commitment because they are the weighing options. Some of them have given sufficient signal that they might quit APC.

“If you look at some states, the associates of these key leaders have started deriding APC. Some of them have even defected from APC to PDP. So, we are positive.”

Another member of NEC said: “As part of the ongoing negotiations, some of those defecting to PDP specifically demanded for a change of name of the party.

“We were wary of the request for change of name in order not to cause crisis in PDP. If we accede to their request, the Uche Secondus-led NWC will technically cease to exist.

“The danger is that these new members might want the NWC restructured in a manner that will give them a stake in the leadership of the party.

“We believe we have conceded enough by granting a waiver to all PDP returnees and new members. We have promised them equity and justice too in all our dealings.

“Another concession is granting these bigwigs the control of PDP machinery in their states in order to determine who to field for the 2019 polls. We, however, added a caveat that they should accommodate those who have been steering the affairs of PDP in the affected states before their return.”

The source however added: “We won’t promise any of these leaders automatic presidential ticket. We are firm on this.”

Ologbondiyan said the party was reaching out to top politicians and leaders but declined to name them.

He said there were demands at the talks including the name change.

Ologbondiyan said the party had not taken any decision on the request.

He said: “Our party is open to discussion with anybody and politicians of various ilk. We are talking to community leaders, religious leaders and youth groups across the nation. A lot of Nigerians are tired of this government and we are reaching out to them.

“We are discussing with everyone on the need for us to lead the coalition for the sack of this incompetent administration in Nigeria and the dysfunctional APC.

“In the course of these discussions, various suggestions have been made; some requests and demands naturally came up. We are not tied to any decision yet.

“But as we speak, the PDP remains open to conversation. No decision yet in respect of changing name. PDP is a structured party and we have various caucuses that any decision will pass through.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES with PASTOR CHRIS
TUESDAY, 24TH APRIL, 2018. http://bit.ly/
rorsponsorship
"UNDERSTANDING IS IMPORTANT".
"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding" (Proverbs 4:7).
Just as wisdom is important, understanding is also very important. That’s why the Bible says, “...therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” A beautiful thing about the Spirit of wisdom is that He doesn’t come alone. In Proverbs 8:14, Wisdom says, “Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.” Wisdom imparts understanding. Sometimes, people have questions for which they require answers, but the Spirit of wisdom gives you insight into mysteries and secrets; He floods the eyes of your understanding with light.
The Lord Jesus emphasized the importance of understanding when He spoke a parable to the people about the sower who went forth to sow his seeds. As he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side. He then explained that the seeds that fell by the way side represent those who, when they hear the Word, don’t understand it. The message actually got into their hearts, but Jesus said, because they didn’t understand it, Satan came immediately to steal it from their hearts (Matthew 13:19).
People do many things today in the Church without proper understanding. For instance, when some sing worship songs, not many care to understand the language or the message they’re worshipping with. Some supposed worship songs are actually not worship songs, yet many sing them and, in their minds, they’re worshipping the Lord. For instance, when you sing: “We’re heirs of the Father,” that’s an affirmation; it blesses you, but it’s not a worship song.
Worship songs are about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. A song like, “I Surrender All,” isn’t a worship song, neither is it for the new creation; it’s meant for sinners being converted to Christ. You already “surrendered all” when you proclaimed Jesus as the Lord of your life. You don’t need to surrender again.
Do you see why understanding is so important? Without it, one’s ministry, success, and prosperity will be very limited. What you need is to grow in wisdom—divine wisdom—and this comes to you through the ministry of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Yield yourself completely to the Holy Spirit. Study and meditate on the Word every day, and you’ll find that always, you’re filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.
CONFESSION
The Word of God dwells in me richly, causing me to know and walk in God’s divine plan. I’m filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Blessed be God!
FURTHER STUDY:
Isaiah 11:2 "And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;"
Ephesians 1:17-18 "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,"
Luke 8:10 "And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand."

I affirm that I have received the Spirit without measure; the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. I have quickness of understanding, and I do not judge after the sight of my eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of my ears: but with righteousness, I judge and reprove with equity. The Wisdom of God is at work in me to produce excellent results in everything I set my heart to do! Life is not a mystery to me, because as I meditate on the Word, the Holy Spirit unveils spiritual realities to me, enlightening the eyes of my understanding to know and apprehend my inheritance in Christ! I live in a different street; therefore, none shall be hurt or destroy in my world: for my world is full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. I am as mount Zion, which cannot be removed but abides forever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about me today and forever. Glory to God! – SEE VIDEOS –

Nollywood actress, Susan Peters has slammed former BBNaija housemate, Cee-C, for not winning anything. She said her bad character got her disgraced to the point that those whom she thought she was better than in the house went home with lots of prizes while she failed to win anything despite coming second in the competition.

Susan Peters wrote:

Quote:”Food for thought, if you disagree just jejely don’t be toxic cos I will block you. Alex won something( 550k close challenge, dano milk challenge) including her mother’s kitchen refurbished despite being called an animal and not her level.
Nina won Head of House and also a trip to Russia for the world cup and one Pepsi event in Dubai despite being called a dustbin with water in her brain.

Tobi won 1m, won Heritage Bank package, Headof house and 2nd runner up even though he was insulted infinity

Ifunnada didn’t make it to the finals but won 2.5m, a vintage Pepsi branded fridge and a year supply of Pepsi and aquafina water
Leo didn’t make it to the finals but won 2.5m, a vintage Pepsi branded fridge and a year supply of Pepsi and aquafina water

This life NEVER look down on anyone because people’s grace differ.
Ceec won nothing even the head of house didn’t last. She won nothing. Getting to the finals as the last woman standing without anything is nothing! She was disgrace. Well she won Adesua’s earrings so that’s something
People she said are not her level went home making their parents proud.

Cee-C was disgraced, her bad character made her win nothing - Susan Peters

If you like take your bad character anywhere thinking the universe will clap for you. No one is perfect but every adult is responsible for their actions.
I said it before andI repeat it again, Virginity will never get you an award as much as good character will give. Being a virgin is self discipline but having a good character will take you places.

South-South APC Endorses Adams Oshiomhole For Position Of National Chairman

Posted by: Edoman - 04-23-2018, 09:13 PM - No Replies

Hours after the Edo State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) unanimously endorsed the candidacy of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as chairmanship candidate for the position of the National Chairman of the party, the South-South Zonal Executive Committee has equally thrown their weight behind Oshiomhole for the position.

National Vice Chairman, APC South-South Zone, Ntufam Eta, disclosed this to journalists in Benin after a meeting of executive members of the party in the zone, held in Benin City.

Eta said the majority of South-South Zonal executive committee members present at the meeting decided on the Edo position, which is the adoption of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to carry the flag of the Party.

“The Edo State chapter, led by its Chairman, informed us that the decision was unanimously accepted by the Edo APC Caucus. During the deliberation, the delegation from Rivers State kicked against Oshiomhole’s candidacy but the voice vote of the zonal executive committee, defeated their position while that of Adams Oshiomhole prevailed and stands as the position of the zonal executive committee of the Party.

“We have done our part. It’s now left for the membership of the National convention to do theirs and we pray that they follow our lead. This is our honest prayer.”

Speaking on the absence of the National Chairman of the Party, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, at the meeting, Eta said: “we were told that the National Chairman was duly invited for the meeting like every other person.”

Earlier, Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, welcomed the APC members from across the six states in the South-South Zone of the party to the meeting and wished them happy deliberation

Very well deserved ,
Considering the amount of calumnious jobs he has done for the dullard. Dude endlessly slandered GEJ, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and Olisa Metuh.

I'm sure it's also Obaseki's little way of saying thank you for helping him keep Ize-Iyamu at bay.

This appointment is also very well timed; before that oyibo woman ditches him.
By the way, why isn't she pregnant yet?

Withdrawal Of $1bn ECA: PDP Charges NASS To Sanction President Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 04-23-2018, 09:06 PM - No Replies

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday charged the National Assembly to commence constitutional processes against President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly withdrawing and spending $I billion from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) without the constitutionally required legislative appropriation.

PDP in a statement in Abuja through its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan said President Buhari was aware that his unilateral spending of $496 million (N151.374 billion) from the ECA, without recourse to the legislative approval of the National Assembly, was a gross violation of the laws and constitution of Nigerian.

The opposition party further said, “By this action, President Buhari has technically suspended the 1999 Constitution (as amended), plundered the inherent powers of the National Assembly as the principal institution of democratic rule, while re-enacting a sole administratorship in governance as if our nation is operating a military regime.

“More disturbing is the revelation that President Buhari paid the $496 million for the purchase of military aircraft from the United States, ignoring allegations of overprice and issues concerning due process, just to achieve a political expediency of currying President Donald Trump’s support for his 2019 re-election bid.

“The PDP states that President Buhari’s action amounts to a gross misconduct and betrayal of public trust because in the bid to push a personal agenda, he deliberately side-stepped statutory legislative scrutiny and acted in clear breach of section 80 (3) (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“While section 80 (3) states that “no moneys shall withdrawn from any public fund of the federation, other than the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the federation unless the issues of those moneys has been authorized by an act of the National Assembly”, section 80 (4) provides that “no moneys shall be withdrawn from the Consolidated Revenue Fund or any other public fund of the federation except in the manner prescribed by the National Assembly.”

It also added, “The resort to falsehood, deception and secrecy in the withdrawal from the ECA and the reported $469 million payment for the military aircraft raises very serious issues regarding the integrity of the Buhari Presidency”.

Ologbondiyan said, “It is shocking that President Buhari, whose administration prides on claims of transparency and zero tolerance for corruption, elected on a platform that lay claims to the height of progressivism, who boasts of the highest standards of integrity, can mundanely resort to a violent abuse of our constitution just to suit a desperate passion of seeking re-election”

A heart broken lady named Felicia who lives in Owerri has taken to Facebook  to cry out after police allegedly killed her brother. The policeman was also killed by mob.Below is what she wrote....

'My brother who has no trace of crime all his life became a victim of incessant killings by   Nigerian police yesterday. A country where an average, easy going and law abiding citizen is not safe. Even though the angry mob killed the police man instantly, yes the blood filled face beside the lifeless body of my dear brother is the police man responsible for his untimely death. we are not satisfied at all. Our brothers life worth more than this.
Why must police who is suppose to be our friend be killing us on daily basis.
Mr Kingsley Aguguo rest in perfect peace .

Bishop Obinim’s Sticker: My Husband Can Now Last Longer In Bed – Woman Claims
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 04-23-2018, 05:20 PM - No Replies

Quote:A Ghanaian lady based in the US has given an ‘unbelievable’ testimony about the controversial Ghanaian Bishop Obinim's stickers.
The lady who is identified as Nana Ama Morton on Facebook revealed how the sticker saved her 13-year-old marriage from collapsing.
In a video that is making waves on social media, the Fante lady said prior to the use of the “Obinim sticker,” her husband was unable to satisfy her in bed because he does not go beyond 1 minute 30 seconds during sex.
“Funny Face’s was better than my husband. He can last for 2mins but my husband does on 1min: 30secs. Eeiii Jesus Ewurade! Immediately I had the stickers, I called him honey babe, he said; yes hun and I told him honey let’s try this miracle on,” she said.
She added, “I put the sticker on his manhood and one on my private part too. That very moment my husband’s joystick erected! Bishop Obinim’s sticker is performing miracles. My husband now goes for second round.”
Ghanaians started the ‘Obinim sticker’ challenge after followers of the controversial ‘miracle performer’, Bishop Daniel Obinim revealed that the stickers were performing miracles.
Members of the International Godsway Church (IGWC) testify that the Obinim stickers possess supernatural powers that solve almost every impossible problem they face.
These testimonies prompted the challenge which makes mockery of the claims of ‘Angel’ Obinim by claiming the inherent powers of the stickers could solve every spiritual and ridiculous situation they face.
Former President John Dramani Mahama also recommended the Obinim sticker to President Nana Akufo-Addo to enable the latter cure his ‘super-incompetence’ and be able to perform.
The former UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin has also joined in the ‘Obinim Sticker’ craze.
The former diplomat who claims he is at the Emirates Stadium to watch a game between Arsenal and West Ham United says even though he is uncertain about the outcome of the match, he hopes for a favourable outcome as he is in an Obinim sticker underpant.

Not long after the news that they will be married was announced, the pair released their official engagement portraits, which were taken in the Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace.
The bride-to-be wore a floral dress by Erdem and Jimmy Choo shoes. She also showed off her gorgeous sparkler.

The ring is a blush-colored padparadscha sapphire with several diamonds around the center stone. As you can see in this photo, the princess’ ring on the left is very similar to the ring her father gave her mother when they go engaged.
The ring also reminds us of the one that belonged to Princess Diana’s and is now worn by the Duchess of Cambridge. That ring is of course another beautiful sapphire surrounded by diamonds.

We also know where the couple will be saying their vows. The Princess and Brooksbank will wed at St. George’s Chapel, which is the same place where Prince Harry and Markle will be married.
“The wedding will take place in the Autumn of 2018 at George’s Chapel in Windsor, with further details to be announced in due course,” a statement from the Palace read.

This year is shaping up to be a big one for the royals as they will be planning two weddings and awaiting the arrival of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s third child due in April. Another granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth, Zara Tindall, is expecting a baby in 2018 as well.

'Atiku once said northerners are lazy’ — Muslim group defends Buhari
[Image: Atiku-653x365.jpg]

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has described the controversial comment made by President Muhammadu Buhari regarding some Nigerian youth as “apt, precise and succinct”.
Speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on Wednesday, the president said some Nigerian youth have not been to school but are waiting on oil money.
The statement generated the hashtag #LazyNigerianYouth on social media, and sparked a lot of controversy.
However, in a statement on Monday, Ishaq Akintola, director of the group, said Buhari is not the first Nigerian leader to describe people as lazy.
He listed former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; Seriake Dickson, governor of Bayelsa state; and ex-military President Ibrahim Babangida as some of those who have allegedly cast aspersions on Nigerians.
“The problem with Nigerians is that they always run away from reality. Not known for verbosity, our president has hit the nail on the head,” the statement read.
“The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) contends that the president’s description of the Nigerian situation regarding its youths was apt, precise and succinct. Many of our youths are lazy but we don’t want to admit it. Instead of commending this truthful leader, we started calling him names.
“Nigerians need to contextualise the president’s comment. We have seen many youths functioning as political thugs as the 2019 general elections approach. What of the ‘agberos’ or touts who have now spilled out of motor parks unto the streets and bus stops? What responsible work are they doing? Are they not youths?
“We have forgotten that Buhari is not the only leader who described Nigerians and the youth in particular in this manner. Governor Dickson in a media chat on 17th may, 2016 was alleged to have said, ‘Bayelsans are so lazy, they want everything free, they don’t want to work’.
“The 25th September 2017 edition of a northern-based newspaper also reportedly quoted Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as saying, “Northerners are lazy” while General Babangida (rtd) allegedly opined during a BBC Hausa service interview of 16th April, 2010, The Nigerian youth is useless, cannot lead.
“Senator Shehu Sani added flavour to this in December 2017 when he reportedly said ‘Northerners are lazy and unproductive’.”

Mohamed Salah Wins PFA Player Of The Year Award

[b]Egypt international and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is voted as the PFA Player of the Year for 2017-18, with Leroy Sane picking up the young player award.

Mohamed Salah has scoped the award ahead of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, David De Gea and Harry Kane.

The Egyptian who moved to Liverpool from Roma has scored 41 goals in all competitions for the Reds this campaign. He is the leading scorer with 31 goals in the English Premier League.

The forward has three Premier League games remaining and could match Andy Cole's record of 34 goals in a 42-game season set in 1993-94.

"It's a big honour. I've worked hard and I'm very happy to win it,'' Salah said at the ceremony on Sunday evening.

Salah is the seventh Premier League player to win the award and the first to win it since Suarez in 2013-14. Rush also won it, as did Steven Gerrard, John Barnes, Kenny Dalglish and Terry McDermott.

Barack Obama Sends Note To Malia’s British Boyfriend
[Image: malia-obama_boyfirend_rory-farquharson_c...02x404.jpg]Meeting your new partner’s parents is always a minefield but when your girlfriend’s dad is Barack Obama the whole thing gets a lot more complicated as Malia Obama’s boyfriend Rory Farquharson is discovering.
Obviously you want to make a good impression with your partner’s parents, but how do you impress Barack Obama when his net worth is $20m and he has been voted the most admired man in the world – ten years in a row.
Oh yeah, and he used to be the president of America – a job that meant he spent most of the day killing people with drones (at least that is how I imagine it, can’t be much more to it than that really?).
Well that is the position that British 20-year-old Rory Farquharson finds himself in after starting dating Obama’s daughter Malia.
The former first daughter was first spotted kissing fellow Harvard student Rory at a Harvard-Yale tailgate, just before a football game began.
[Image: Malia-Rory-A.jpg]To be fair, Rory has had his taste of elected leadership too, he was head boy at prestigious British private school Rugby. According to the Mail Online, Rory played golf for the school and – unsurprisingly – also played rugby.
In 2015, he appeared as an extra in a video for the Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony – a video so posh it featured Prince Harry – no sure if that’ll be enough to impress the former leader of the free world though.
The pair met while studying at Harvard University – although nobody actually seems to know what they were studying.
[Image: GettyImages-908058912.jpg]And now Charlotte Griffiths at theDaily Mail has heard from her ‘high-society informants’ that Barack and Michelle Obama have written a letter to the boy dating their eldest daughter.
However, instead of the furious protective parents whose daughters I always seemed to date as a youth, the Obamas are characteristically chill.
Reportedly the letter was an apology for the attention their famous name might bring him for dating their daughter.
Which is pretty cute of them to be honest. The more I learn about the Obamas the more they sound like ridiculously solid people. Obviously, not everyone agrees with their politics, but that is kind of how politics works.
Fair play to Rory and Malia, they are both young and as if starting a relationship wasn’t hard enough they are getting harassed by paparazzi all the time.
[Image: barack-obama-angry_getty-702x468.jpg]So it is good to know that the Obamas have their back and are supporting the couple’s fledgling romance.
My dad once told me, ‘if the parents hate you, then the girl will date you just to annoy them.’ As fatherly advice goes it falls right into the ‘truthful sounding but extremely unhelpful category.’
What did he expect me to do, go around deliberately annoying girls’ parents until their daughters threw themselves at me?
[Image: GettyImages-143543351-702x468.jpg]Hopefully, for Rory’s sake, his dad Mr Farquharson didn’t share the same advice because I can’t imagine deliberately annoying the Obamas would go down very well.
Barack and Michelle got married in 1992 when they were both in their early 30s so it is unlikely that they’ll be encouraging 20-year-old Rory and 19-year-old Malia to settle down sharpish.
Probably for the best as there is already enough pressure on the pair. Best of luck to them both.

Previous Thread: http://www.nairaland.com/4459382/kofi-adjorlolo-son-sleeping-ama

Quote:Popular Instagram and Snapchat slay queen, Ama Richest has debunked rumours that she is sleeping with Kofi Adjorlolo and his son at the same time.
Ama Richest took to her Instagram page to debunk this rumours and tell people who have been sharing such stories about her, her piece of mind.
According to her, it is a taboo for a woman to sleep with a father and son and more importantly, it is against her belief and virtue as a changed person.
YEN.com.gh reported earlier that veteran Ghanaian actor, Kofi Adjorlolo and his son were having an affair with the same woman who was identified as Ama Richest.
Ama Richest, an escort who charges her clients no less than $100 for her services, has been spotted a number of times with Adjorlolo and his son on separate occasions.
Some of the unconfirmed reports suggested that the veteran actor, Kofi Adjorlolo, has also been caught in compromising situations severally with Ama Richest.
But Ama Richest would not take the allegations lightly as she has put up a post on her Instagram page that would end everything.
“Don’t get me wrong I have been bad before but for someone to come up and write fake stories about me sleeping with someone and his dad is jus outrageous, I wouldn’t do that in a million years, just because am friend with someone and his dad doesn’t mean am warming their beds.
Is not only a taboo to do that but it’s against everything I stand for’ I am a change person and am trying to better my life people should also try and do that and stop making up stories that’s ain’t true, thanks,” she wrote on Instagram.

YOU CAN DESTROY YOURSELF BY USING A LAPTOP ON YOUR LAPS

GUYS ONLY: YOU CAN DESTROY YOURSELF BY USING A LAPTOP ON YOUR LAPS

For most young people, living in the 21st century would literally not be complete without electronic gadgets. With the growing popularity of computers, younger people are getting drawn to it, and it is no surprise that researchers have embarked on a study to determine the potential damage, that frequent use of laptops may cause on a man’s sexual health and fertility.
Recent findings by experts from the State University of New York have shown that men who frequently use laptops could be damaging their fertility.
A laptop computer, or simply laptop or notebook, is a small mobile computer that usually runs on a single main battery or from an external AC/DC adapter which can charge the battery while also supplying power to the computer itself.
This very useful office and entertainment tool is now being examined so that men can be forewarned about the potential hazards of long-term use.
According to researchers, when a man places the computer on his lap, it increases the temperature of the scrotum which is known to have a negative effect on sperm production, and may cause scrotal hyperthermia.
The scrotum is located outside the body so as to keep the testes at a temperature slightly lower than that of the rest of the human body. Increase in temperature of scrotum can damage sperm production and development. Scrotal hyperthermia has been identified as a risk factor for male infertility.
Dr. Yefim Sheynkin, a lead researcher from the State University of New York at Stony Brook noted that laptops can reach internal operating temperatures of over 70C, a temperature that is harmful to live sperm.
They are frequently positioned close to the scrotum, and as well as being capable of producing direct local heat, they require the user to sit with his thighs close together to balance the machine, which traps the scrotum between the thighs, he said.
There were 29 healthy males aged between 21 and 35 who volunteered to be a part of the experiment. Temperature changes to the scrotum caused by laptop use and the different seating positions over one hour time periods were recorded and evaluated.
The following results were observed: In order to balance a laptop, a man has to sit with his thighs together. With this posture alone, temperature in the scrotum rose by 2.1C. When the men used a laptop in this position, the average temperatures increased by 2.6C on the left side of the scrotum and 2.8C on its right side.
Furthermore, the body needs to maintain a proper testicular temperature for normal sperm production and development.
Their studies have not determined the exact frequency and time of heat exposure that is capable of producing reversible or irreversible changes in spermatogenesis. But previous studies made suggest that 1C above the baseline is the possible minimal thermal gradient.
Based on these findings, therefore, repetitive use of a laptop on your laps close to to your scrotum might cause permanent damage and infertility.
Health is everything. Protect your body like it’s all you’ve got!

Offa robbery: Policemen took N400,000 bribe from robbers before operation – Report
By The Eagle Online on April 23, 2018
Policemen attached to the Divisional Police Station in Offa, Kwara State have been accused of collecting N400,000 bribe from the robbers who hit five banks in the town, killing nine policemen and eight civilians in the process, Vanguard newspaper is reporting.
According to the report, the owner of Xontec Hotel on Igosun Road, Offa, where the suspects stayed before hitting the banks, Kadir Surajudeen, had reported to the police that there were suspicious people lodging there before the operation.
Surajudeen was said to have told the Divisional Police Officer of the discovery of some incriminating materials as the robbers checked into the hotel.
The DPO and the Divisional Crime Officer were said to have sent some officers to the hotel.
Vanguard said it learnt that instead of arresting the suspects, the policemen negotiated with them and were offered N400,000.
On their return to the station, they reportedly told the DPO and DCO that those Surajudeen reported were Yahoo boys and not robbers.
Vanguard quoted a source as having told it: “It was not surprising that the robbers visited the police station the following day and killed about nine policemen in retaliation for collecting N400,000 from them.”
Surajudeen, who has since been arraigned for harbouring the armed robbers alongside some of his state has challenged the DPO and DCO in Offa to deny if he did not informe them about the development.
In a related development, Vanguard said the robbers were arrested through the tracking of mobile phones the robbers collected from their victims.
Vanguard said it gathered that after the robbery operation, the suspects took away the handsets of the victims, which they later gave out to their girlfriends.
Officials of the robbed banks were also said to have given the Police all handsets found within their premises after the robbery.
Vanguard said the interrogation of the girlfriends with whom the phones were found led to the arrest of the suspects in Ibadan, Oyo State; Lagos State; and Abeokuta, Ogun State.
It said further checks revealed that the suspects had been in and out of jail several times and that they regrouped for that operation.  https://theeagleonline.com.ng/amp/offa-r...ion-report

A Nigerian has been burnt to death in Rustenburg, South Africa, after his vehicle was set ablaze by yet-to-be identified people. He has not been identified Either. However, the country’s North West police did not believe the incident was related to violent protests in the area this week, according to media reports on Sunday.

Two vehicles were set alight in two separate incidents by a group of unidentified people, multiple reports said. No one had been arrested and police were investigating, the South African Broadcasting Corporation reported police spokesperson Ofentse Mokgadi as having said.

“We can confirm that in two separate incidents, two vehicles were burnt by unknown suspects. In one of the incidents, a man sustained serious burn wound injuries after being set alight. He later died in hospital.

“At this stage a motive is unknown and police are still investigating,” the broadcaster added. Calm returned to the area after days of protests calling for the removal of North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo.

The killing of the Nigerian came less than 10 days after another Nigerian ThankGod Okoro, 30, from Ogbaku in the Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State was murdered. Records show that no fewer than 117 Nigerians have been killed in South Africa since February, 2016.

Guinea Insurance records N501.1m underwriting profit

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has approved the 2017 audited financial statements of one of the oldest underwriting firms in Nigeria, Guinea Insurance Plc.
This was disclosed in a statement released by the company in Lagos.
The approval was granted after a confirmation that Guinea Insurance had substantially complied with the Commission’s regulatory requirements as stated in its letter dated 11th April 2018 and captioned: Approval for Publication of Year 2017 Audited Financial Statements.
In what could better be described as a continuous streak of good performance, the company recorded a marked shift of positive results as at the year ended December 31, 2017
Gross Premium Written grew by 7 percent from N906.7 million in 2016 to N967.1
in 2017. Net Premium Income also grew by 15 percent from N649.5 million in 2016 to N747.1 in 2017. Underwriting Profit grew from N453.4 million recorded in 2016 to N501.1 million in 2017 representing a growth rate of 11 percent. Claims Paid by Guinea Insurance on various classes of insurance decreased by 47% from N304.9 million in 2016 to N161.5 million in 2017, due to operational efficiency in terms of people, processes, technology and communications, the underwriter had said.
In spite of economic headwinds, the underwriter’s Investment Income recorded a marginal decline of 3 percent from N215.5 in 2016 to N208.3 in 2017. Howbeit, a remarkable performance was delivered as the underwriter posted a Profit Before Tax increase of 35% from N176.3 million in 2016 to N237.8 million in 2017; better still, it recorded a whopping Profit After Tax increase of 518% from N40.6 million in 2016 to N251.0 million in 2017.
The underwriter’s zest to be over and done with the challenge of solvency margin, was further consolidated during the year under review as its Solvency Margin grew by 13% from N3.0 billion in 2016 to N3.4 billion in 2017, while increase in Shareholders’ Fund as recorded in its books stood at 16% from N2.9 billion in 2016 to N3.4 billion in 2017.
As evident in Guinea Insurance 2017 Year-end Audited Financial Statements; its Management has been true to its pledge of returning the company on the path of profitability and has further reaffirmed its commitment to continuously deliver values that will positively affect the lives of its stakeholders and leverage best practices.

source : http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2018/04/i-for...-days.html

The foreign exchange market last week saw an inflow of $1.9 billion through the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window and the interventions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The CBN had in its two interventions held last week pumped in $606.18 million as $1.29 billion flowed into the market through the I&E window. According to Eyes Of Lagos reports, The highest inflow last week at the I&E window was on Tuesday when $361.38 million flowed in but it dropped to $137.62 million by Thursday. Value of the naira at the I&E window opened the week flat at N360 to the dollar, the same at the close of the previous week and by Thursday, it had depreciated to N360.25 before closing the week at N360.2 to the dollar. The CBN spot rate opened the week at N305.60 and remained unchanged throughout the week. The CBN during the week had pumped in more foreign exchange into the economy selling $396.18 million into the Retail Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS) segment of the market in its move to guarantee liquidity in the forex market. This brought the total of foreign exchange sold by the apex bank last week to $606.18 million. Earlier in the week it had sold $210 million to meet demand at the wholesale, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the invisibles segment of the market. According to figures obtained from the CBN, the released sum is meant to meet obligations in the agricultural, airlines, petroleum products and raw materials and machinery sectors. Confirming the figures, the bank’s acting director, corporate communications department, Isaac Okorafor said that interventions by the CBN in both the retail and wholesale sectors of the forex market were targeted primarily at ensuring liquidity in the market as well as encouraging production and trade, particularly now that the focus was on the promotion of local content. Okorafor further explained that with the country’s reserves nearing $50 billion, CBN was even more determined to sustain the gains recorded through the various policy options the bank took in the course of stemming the depletion of the external reserves and steering Nigeria out of recession. Beyond ensuring liquidity in the inter-bank sector of the market, he said CBN was committed to supporting efforts aimed growing the economy and further diversifying it away from oil. Despite rates closing at N362/$1 on Friday, Okorafor, insisted that the market would remain stable and that CBN would ensure it maintains the country’s external reserves in order to safeguard the international value of the naira.

The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) is a joint German-US space science project.

The SOFIA, a 747SP-21 was originally built to carry passengers on ultra-long haul routes. Now it's used to carry the world's only flying infrared astronomy laboratory and flying a 2.5-metre infrared telescope.

NASA purchased the 747SP-21 on February 5, 1997. It took 13 years to remodel the plane, install new equipment, put in retractable fuselage doors and to test it.

It embarked on its first full science research flight on November 30, 2010 .

The airborne observatory performs astronomical observations in the infrared and submillimetre wavelengths, meaning,it observes light in the infrared spectrum that's not visible to the Unclad eye.

NASA says the data provided by SOFIA cannot be obtained by any other astronomical facility on the ground or in space.

It is also called a Vampire Jet because, it only performs observation missions at night.

The telescope doesn't gather valuable data in daylight .Also exposing the telescope to direct sunlight would destroy its optics and create a fire hazard.

The scientific objective is to understand the development of galaxies and the formation and evolution of stars and planetary systems from interstellar clouds of gas and dust.

The program costs $85 million per year in US funding and $20 million from DLR. Each of the 100 missions works out to nearly $1 million.

At an average of 10 hours per flight mission and 1,000 flight hours per year, each hour in flight costs in the vicinity of $100,000 i.e. about N35.9m/hr and about N359m/10hrs .
