Why Arsenal Will Not Sack Arsene Wenger
User Avatar Forum: Sports World

By Kurtis Adigba

Football, is first and foremost, a business, no longer an entertainment stuff. Investors in football, like business people in other sectors, are driven primarily by profits, not necessarily pride. Profit is first, pride is second.

We have 3 or more classes of owners of football clubs:

1. The profit driven owners;
2. The profit and passion driven owners; and,
3. The passion driven owners.

The passion driven owners are daily thinning out because as we all know, football is a capital intensive venture. The high costs of buying players and their astronomical wages, makes it difficult to own and run a football team in the premiership, as a thing of passion.
The fans, are primarily concerned about pride, passion, and bragging rights, but the owners, are driven by profits and the bottom line. One could argue that profits will be enhanced by pride and trophies but profitability, does not depend sorely on pride and trophies.

Many Arsenal fans are calling for the sack of Wenger, and it is fair to say that they are entitled to their views. But the owners of the club, will not sack Wenger, or release him to go merely on fans dissatisfaction. They will be considering Wenger’s contributions to the profits and bottom lines of the company, his impact on the brand, his payout or severance package, available options, and the quality of his successor. They are very few managers available today that are better than Wenger. The wage demands of the new manager, and his buyout cost, if currently engaged, are major considerations for the owners and the Board.

If you are thinking that Arsene Wenger will be sacked because of your needs to be happy and brag about your team, have a re-think. It takes more than passion and pride, to run a team.

Wenger, is much more pained than anyone about what is happening. Last night, he was a total wreck emotionally. He is going through a rough patch no doubt, but he deserves to be respected and not booed. He has done so much for Arsenal!

A $31.5million victims' fund that started as a GoFund Me effort announced plans Friday to pay $275,000 to the families of each of the 58 people killed in the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.

The Las Vegas Victims Fund said the maximum $275,000 also will be paid to 10 other people who were paralyzed or suffered permanent brain damage in the October 1 shooting on the Las Vegas Strip.

The full $31.5million will be distributed among the injured and families of the dead, the group said.

The nonprofit posted a chart projecting payments on a scale to a total of 532 people, including more than $10million divided among 147 people who were hospitalized.

The fund includes millions of dollars in corporate donations and tens of thousands of individual donations that ranged in size from $1 to $400,000.

On the night of October 1, 2017, a gunman opened fire on a crowd of concert goers at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, leaving 58 people dead and 851 injured.

Between 10:05 and 10:15 p.m, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock fired more than 1,100 rounds from his suite on the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay hotel.

About an hour after he fired his last shot into the crowd, he was found dead in his room from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

His motive remains unknown.

The aftermath of the October 1 shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival is seen.

A victim's fund is preparing to make disbursements to those injured and the families of the dead.

2019: Asari Dokubo Supports Atiku Abubakar, Dismisses Fayose, Tambuwal
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 03-03-2018, 09:17 PM - No Replies

Ex-militant leader in the Niger Delta, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, has advised the Peoples Democratic Party on the choice of presidential candidate ahead of the 2019 election.

Asari, who spoke with Sun believes that only former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has the credentials to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, come 2019.

Speaking on other candidates indicating interest under the umbrella of the PDP, Asari, said mentioning names such as Tambuwal, Sule Lamido, and others shows that the main opposition party is not ready for the election.

His words, “Yes, the PDP is not ready for a fight. If the PDP is ready for a fight, there won’t be talks of Tambuwal candidature, someone who is a governor in APC. He destroyed PDP and ran to APC. They are talking of Tambuwal, who knows him in Bayelsa?

“PDP governors are lobbying a character like that to join the PDP and contest for the presidential ticket. They are talking of Makarfi, a man who could not win Senate election; a man who during the 2015 presidential election allegedly voted for Buhari and showed his ballot paper to the people before putting it in the box.

“Such a man is the one some PDP people are lobbying to get on the presidential ticket.

“Sule Lamido is not different from Buhari. He is one of these arrogant Fulani people who feel they own this country and the rest of us are just like appendages.

“Yes, I was in the SDP with Atiku Abubakar. He is the most liberal of all the people coming from the North. He has his own baggage. Let us look at other people. What are people like David Mark doing that they can’t contest?

“Is it that they are not courageous enough to come and fight? So everybody in the North would abdicate to the Fulani. Other Northerners are even afraid to take their liberty even when we have told them that we have taken our liberty and they should take theirs.”

On Fayose, he added, “Yes, he has signified his intention but it is not going to fly. Who is going to run Fayose’s election for him? Whose money is going to be used?

“The South West does not vote heavily. The percentage of voters is low. Ekiti state where Fayose is governor has one of the lowest voting population.

“The other voters in South West are in the hands of the APC. For me, David Mark would have been the very best for PDP to galvanise the swing nationalities; those people outside Hausa, Fulani and Yoruba and bring them together to join with the Igbo and some other liberal Yoruba people.

“But if David Mark is not there, among the Fulani if the PDP insists on having a Fulani to become its presidential candidate, Atiku is their best bet.

“We also have Ibrahim Shekarau, a very honest and cerebral man. But does he have resources because election demands resources. At the end of the day, a lot of people do not know Shekarau in the South.

“Atiku already has platforms across Nigeria and whatever it is he can fight more. Aside that, he has also talked about restructuring and as an Ijaw man, we want to engage him, what he means by restructuring. If PDP is looking for somebody with a war chest to fight and that would attract a lot of people from the APC, it is Atiku.”

2019: Plot Thickens To Stop Buhari With Saraki, Tambuwal

Why Northern establishment will root for Tambuwal
•Pressure on Saraki to help stop Buhari

By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor

President Muhammadu Buhari may have strengthened his hand in getting the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, with last Tuesday’s sweeping extension of the tenure of the National Working Committee, NWC.

Buhari & Saraki
Buhari & Saraki
However, more trouble lies for him in the general contest from a coalition of displeased party members and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that could make last Tuesday’s endorsement of the NWC a pyrrhic victory. That is if the President resolves to seek a second term despite health and age concerns.

Buhari, who was inaugurated as President at the age of 72, making him the oldest person to have occupied the Nigerian presidency would extend that record if he goes on to win a second term at 76.

Health and age issues

His health and age issues nonetheless, critics within his party are not giving up on stopping him, if not on account of alleged underperformance, then to stave off what some party insiders claim as potential vengeance in a second term.

The opposition, Saturday Vanguard gathered is now centering around Senate President Bukola Saraki, who became an early target of the Buhari presidency upon claims of his alleged ‘unbridled presidential aspiration.’

Saraki, who was an influential factor in rallying the Middle Belt and the business community towards the Buhari candidacy ahead of the 2015 elections has twice been charged by officials of the Buhari administration on two alleged crimes; forgery of the 2015 Standing Rules of the Senate and wrongful declaration of assets.

The charge of forgery was withdrawn by administration officials upon lack of evidence while the government and Saraki have appealed and cross-appealed disfavourable judgments on the assets declaration charges.

Tambuwal, Markarfi , Lamido, Atiku

With Saraki apparently being pushed to his wits’ end, Saturday Vanguard learnt that he is being prevailed upon to forgo his reported presidential aspiration to help forge a strong alliance that could stop Buhari’s second term.

Those canvassing the idea expect Saraki to return to the PDP and help push the candidacy of any of the four major aspirants being canvassed to fly the ticket of the opposition party.

The four include Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Alhaji Sule Lamido and Atiku Abubakar.

Saraki has become increasingly distant from the APC despite reconciliatory moves made by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu towards him and his allies. A source disclosed that immediately Tinubu was given the assignment to lead the reconciliation one of the first persons he met in Abuja was Senator Saraki.

“Asiwaju told him that he has been given the job and that he needed Saraki’s cooperation for the job,” a source privy to the encounter between the two men which occurred about two weeks ago said.

Absent at APC meetings

The encounter between Saraki and Tinubu was particularly sensitive given claims that the APC national leader was one of those who marshaled opposition to stop Saraki from occupying the office of Senate President.

That meeting between both men, Saturday Vanguard learnt, did not produce any breakthrough but that did not stop Tinubu in his task. Evidence of the lack of substance from the meeting was Saraki’s absence at two national meetings of the party earlier this week; the national caucus on Monday and the NEC meeting the following day despite being in Abuja.

Saraki remarkably was in court last Tuesday when the NEC of the party took place in Abuja.

One associate of Saraki ’s associates dismissed insinuations about his absence at the two meetings.

“How could they have expected him at the meeting of the national caucus when he would have been preparing himself for the court case that was to come up the following day, and that was the same day that the NEC was holding.”

Saraki’s Spokesman, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu was, however, quick to disabuse any claims of mischief in the absence of the Senate President at the two meetings.

In a statement issued late on Thursday, Mr. Olaniyonu said the Senate President returned from an official Senate engagement in Benin late on Monday and was unable to attend the caucus meeting. He also traced his absence at the NEC meeting to the CCT trial.

It is possible to defeat Buhari

“On Tuesday when the NEC meeting was holding at the APC secretariat, the Senate President was at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) where he was fighting to clear his name as the defendant in an ongoing case. Dr. Saraki did not fix the date of the adoption of briefs by prosecution and defence lawyers. The Tribunal did, and by law, Saraki must be physically present at the Tribunal as the defendant.

“It stands to reason that he cannot be in two places at once, and so he was unavoidably absent at the NEC meeting.

“Dr. Saraki is not one to sneak into a room via the window. He would rather enter through the front door so that his entry is well noted and acknowledged. Nigerians know that when he joined the APC, he did not sneak in. Therefore, no one should attach any mischievous or inaccurate interpretation to his absence at the two meetings held at times when his whereabouts were a matter of public record.”

Despite Buhari’s continued popularity in some portions of the North, his critics within the party believe that it is possible to defeat him and hence the shopping around for strong politicians to turn the tide against the President. Besides Saraki, others that are being courted include the influential senior senator from Zamfara, Senator Sani Yerima and the immediate past governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko.

Remarkably, the two senators like the overwhelming majority of APC senators are supportive of Saraki.

Those courting Wamakko are counting on him to back Tambuwal for the presidency, a decision they believe would help to stave a substantial proportion of the Northern votes away from Buhari.

One million votes from Sokoto

The argument in support of Tambuwal according to the projections is that it would deny Buhari the estimated one million votes from Sokoto. Even more, is the fact that a Tambuwal candidacy could rally the Northern feudal establishment which, in any case, had been largely circumspect about Buhari, around a more youthful person. Another projection by the North is that a Tambuwal candidacy defeating Buhari would project the presidency to be in Northern hands up to 2027, instead of 2023 which the second term for Buhari could offer.

However, the same projection of handing power to the South and particularly to the Southwest is at the centre of the troubleshooting efforts of a Southwest leader of the party. The Southwest leader who is himself interested in the presidency according to sources believes that the best route for him is for Buhari to do a second term and relinquish power to the south.

The permutations driving a Tambuwal presidential aspiration are, however, tempered by local domestic politics in the governor’s home state in which external forces have recently tried to break the cordiality between the governor and his political leader and predecessor, Senator Wamakko.

Tambuwal’s presidential aspiration

Though both men continue to display signs of cordiality, Saturday Vanguard learnt that there are apprehensions from those around Wamakko that Tambuwal could fall out of line. That fear is real given the claims that Governor Tambuwal has not been too mindful getting close to some of his predecessor’s estranged allies, including a former minister from the state and a former governor.

A source close to the two men told Saturday Vanguard that Tambuwal was not Wamakko’s original plan for a successor as the former commissioner for finance and later local governments, Alhaji Farouk Yabo was the preferred choice.

Sources in Sokoto revealed that Wamakko might not mind a Tambuwal presidential bid as conspiracy theorists say that it would, win or lose, help Wamakko plant Yabo as governor and thus ensure that his legacy in Sokoto State survives in the longer term.

PDP NATIONAL YOUTH LEAGUE REACT TO THE ALLEGED DEFECTION OF JERRY GANA, ADENIRAN AND OTHERS

We the entire members of Peoples Democratic Party National Youth League (PDPNYL) received the news of alleged defection of some leaders of our great party including, Prof Jerry Gana, Prof Tunde Adeniran and Alhaji Shehu Gabam to Social Democratic Party (SDP) with great shock and sadness.

It is our candid opinion that the least expected of people that have had so much gains from the party is to join hands with the indefatigable leadership of our great party led by Prince Uche Secondus and his team of National Working Committee to rebuild the party for greatness, reposition it and Regain every lost ground.

While we mourn the exit of the aforementioned leaders from the party, it is our candid belief that the PDP National Youth League will not be broken.

The PDPNYL shall continue to reach out to and galvanize young Nigerians into our great party to ensure maximum support of the youths ahead of 2019 election.

The PDPNYL shall always liaise with the office of the National Youth Leader, National Publicity Secretary, National Women Leader, National Secretary, National Chairman and every other relevant organs at all levels to achieve this aim.

Though we believe that the PDP is the only party that can resoundingly defeat the ruling All Progressive Congress in 2019 and beyond, we wish the aforementioned leaders well in their new found party.

SIGNED
Zainab Al-Amin
National Publicity Secretary,
Peoples Democratic Party National Youth League

Earlier today,I shared the story of Fulani people killed by Mambilla militias in Taraba.Usman has thrown more light on the incident.Accorsing to him, many cattle were also injured in the attack.Below is what he wrote....

'Below are some of the gory pictures of macheted cattles in the recently renewed mambilla crisis that occurred from 1 march   2018 in some villages under Kakara ward, which resulted to lost of many lives and properties.
Kakara is the ward Headquarter of the proposed Mambilla hydro electric power Dam. Kakara is also the home town of the present President of the Nigeria Trade Union Congress (TUC) Bobboi Bala Kaigama is also among the top Governotorial aspirants under the platform of the All Progressive Congress come 2019i in Taraba state .

The Secretary of the federal character commission Barr Muhammed Bello  equally held from Kakara.

The only Tea growers and manufacturing company in Nigeria is situated at Kakara (the mambilla beverages production company)

Kakara has never participated in the previous violence on mambilla plateau.why this time?'

Buhari Writes UK To Probe Saraki And Ekweremadu - Sahara Reporters

Quote:Buhari Writes UK's Serious Fraud Office Asking Them To Probe How Saraki, Ekweremadu Acquired £15million, And £4m London Homes

The United Kingdom's Serious Fraud Office (SFO), SaharaReporters has learned, is on the verge on launching an investigation under the Unexplained Wealth Order into how the Messrs after receiving a letter from the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, President and Deputy President of the Senate respectively, acquired pricey landed properties in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Saraki, at various times governor of Kwara State and Special Assistant to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is the owner of two London properties valued at about £15million. Sources at the SFO told SaharaReporters that his properties to be investigated are located at No. 7 and 8 Whittaker Street, Belgravia, London.

Mr.Ekweremadu, a former Secretary to the Government and Chief of Staff to the governor of Enugu state. The Senator acquired two properties worth £4m in London via fronts.

The properties are Flat 4 Varsity Court, Homer Street, WIH, 4NW London and 52 Ayleston Avenue NW6 7AB, London. SFO sources said there is a serious curiosity in the agency that Mr. Ike Ekweremadu acquired Flat 4, Varsity Court, Homer Street, WIH 4NW, London, under the guise of Ikeoha Foundation, which is registered with Nigeria's Corporate Affairs Commission as a charity. The property is worth £830, 000.

The Deputy Senate President acquired the second property using a shell company, Property Circle Ltd Incorporated, which was incorporated in the British Virgin Islands. The property is worth £2.9million.

SaharaReporters gathered from SFO operatives that another property in the Varsity Court, purportedly owned by C & V Management Company Ltd and 44 Homer Street purportedly owned by SJW Estates Ltd, incorporated in Jersey, will also be investigated. The value of the property is £18.5million.

In addition to Messrs. Saraki and Ekweremadu, Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan, a senator, is also to be investigated by the SFO. Mr. Akpan, a former Akwa Ibom State Finance Commissioner, disclosed in his assets declaration form dated August 8, 2015, that he owns has a number of landed properties in London. SFO sources said the Mr. Akpan claimed to have acquired the properties through Barclays Bank of London-financed mortgage totaling £1million.

"The SFO will investigate the circumstances under which Senator Bassey Albert Akpan acquired all these landed properties in the United Kingdom. The circumstances are suspicious, taking into account that for the past 10 years, he has always been a public officer and his legitimate earnings are far below the worth of the assets he has acquired in the United Kingdom," said an SFO source.

The SFO source said they have received encouraging cooperation from the Buhari regime explaining that the aforementioned politicians couldn't have afforded the properties through lawful means, the regime in a letter to the SFO detailed their salaries and emoluments as well as revealing that they did not declare the assets as required by law.

Nigeria reaches record high with 72 dead from Lassa fever
By Bukola Adebayo, CNN

Touching, eating or sniffing foods and other household items that have been contaminated by multimammate rat feces or urine is a primary way Lassa fever is transmitted to humans.

Story highlights

 • At least 72 people have died and 2,845 people at risk are being monitored
 • "Many people will seek treatment in health facilities that are not appropriately prepared," official says

Lagos, Nigeria (CNN)Nigeria is facing its worst Lassa fever outbreak on record, with 72 people confirmed to be dead from the virus and 317 infected, according to the World Health Organization.
A further 764 are suspected to be infected, and 2,845 contacts have been identified.

On average, Lassa fever is deadly in 1% of all individuals infected, with higher rates of 15% morbidity among people hospitalized for the illness. As of Sunday, the case fatality ratio was 22%, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
Although it's endemic to the country, Lassa fever numbers have never reached this proportion before, according to the WHO.
Nigeria's Centre for Disease Control said Wednesday that it was facing an "unprecedented outbreak" that has spread to 18 states since it began in January.
The disease can cause fever and hemorrhaging of various parts of the body -- including the eyes and nose -- and can be spread through contact with an infected rat.

Person-to-person transmission is low but has been seen in Nigerian hospital settings this year. Fourteen health workers were infected, of whom four died within eight weeks.
The WHO said Wednesday that health facilities were overstretched in the southern states of Edo, Ondo and Ebonyi, and it is working with national reference hospitals and the Alliance for International Medical Action to rapidly expand and better equip treatment centers.

More than 40 dead in Lassa fever outbreak in Nigeria

It also hopes to reduce further infections to hospital staff.
"The ability to rapidly detect cases of infection in the community and refer them early for treatment improves patients' chances of survival and is critical to this response," said Dr. Wondimagegnehu Alemu, the WHO representative to Nigeria.
State health authorities are mobilizing doctors and nurses to work in treatment centers. Four UK researchers have also been deployed to Nigeria to help control the unusually large outbreak.
"Given the large number of states affected, many people will seek treatment in health facilities that are not appropriately prepared to care for Lassa fever," Alemu said.
"The risk of infection to health care workers is likely to increase."
Lassa fever is endemic in most of West Africa, especially Nigeria, where it was discovered in 1969.
Edo, Ondo and Ebonyi states account for 85% of cases, said Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, director of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, in a statement.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, touching, eating or sniffing foods and other household items that have been contaminated by multimammate rat feces or urine can aid transmission.

Lassa fever death rates in Nigeria higher than expected
Nigerians, especially in those three states, should "continue focusing on prevention by ensuring they prevent access to their foodstuff by rodents," Ihekweazu said.
There is risk of the virus spreading to other West African countries due to increased migration, said Dr. Oyewale Tomori, professor of virology at Redeemer's University in Nigeria and the former regional virologist for the WHO's Africa Region.
"There is always cause for alarm in West Africa, where the rodent host of can be found in virtually all countries of West Africa," he said.
Benin, Liberia and Sierra Leone have all reported cases of Lassa fever over the past month, according to the WHO, but risk of further international transmission is low for now.https://edition.cnn.com/2018/03/01/health/nigeria-lassa-fever-outbreak-record-high/index.html

RIHANNA TO HASSAN JAMEEL: LET'S MAKE A BABY!
User Avatar Forum: Music
Posted by: Gimbiya - 03-03-2018, 04:29 PM - No Replies

While there have been some unkind pregnancy rumors about Rihanna in recent months, this beautiful and talented singer and actress might bring some truth to them in the future.
You know how she's landed herself a super handsome boyfriend, Hassan Jameel?
She's reportedly considering the idea of making him her baby daddy.

HollywoodLife reports that
Rihanna is considering having a child with boyfriend Hassan Jameel.

"Rihanna is madly in love with Hassan and she’s starting to plan for a future with him."
The guy's first and last names together literally mean "handsome handsome" and he lives up to that, so this isn't much of a surprise.
"This is the first guy since Chris (Brown) that’s made her feel this way, like she wants to settle down."
Hopefully, this relationship will be less disastrous and upsetting.

Their source continues.

This time, they're talking about how and when Rihanna and Hassan currently see each other.
"She and Hassan mostly meet up in Europe, it’s a good midway point for them."
That makes sense.
"But now she’s talking about making it her full-time base so she can have even more time with him"
We in the US would miss Rihanna, but what makes her happy is what really matters.
Apparently, her recent birthday is making her think about settling down.
"They are very serious and now that Rihanna has hit the big 3-0 she’s thinking about stuff like marriage and family a lot more."
We can see that.

Apparently, like countless fellow Millennials, Rihanna is noticing that she isn't reaching certain milestones at the ages that she'd imagined.

"She always thought she would have kids by this age so that’s on her mind now too."
Sometimes, these thoughts gnaw at you. And then there are all sorts of social pressures.
"She and Hassan aren’t rushing into anything, but that is where her head is going. It really seems like she’s met her Prince Charming."
He's a Saudi businessman and heir to one of the world's biggest companies.
Those are some princely qualities, for sure.
It doesn't hurt that he's reportedly warned Chris Brown to stay away from Rihanna. That makes him sound like a knight in shining armor.

Apparently, Rihanna is understandably head-over-heels.

"This guy has completely swept her off her feet."
That's so heartwarming to hear!
And he's a definite improvement over a certain scumbag she used to love.
"For a long time she worried that she’d never love anyone as much as Chris, but Hassan is showing her it’s possible. Chris will always be her first true love but Hassan has made his own mark."
Hopefully, Chris Brown will one day be but a distant memory.
(For the whole world, but especially for Rihanna)
"It’s two different kind of loves but equally strong."
This new love, of course, doesn't seem to be toxic or dangerous.

Rihanna just turned 30 in February.

While there's no "right time" to have a baby, and while absolutely no one is obligated to reproduce ... many look at her and say that this might be a very good time.
But if Rihanna wants to put off having a child for another few years, or a decade, or literally forever, that is totally her choice to make.
Rihanna is an amazing talent, and no amount of love for her gives any fan -- or anyone else -- the right to make that kind of choice for her.

AMANDLA STENBERG WALKED AWAY FROM BLACK PANTHER FOR A VERY THOUGHTFUL REASON

Amandla Stenberg Walked Away from Black Panther for a Very Thoughtful Reason
The actor auditioned for the role of Shuri, but dropped out after realizing “there are spaces that I should not take up.”

It seems unfathomable that any actor would walk away from a potential role in Black Panther. The Marvel superhero movie isn’t just a massive blockbuster—it’s the cultural event of the year thus far. But it seems there is one actor who would pass up on this once-in-a-lifetime gig: in a recent CBC interviewAmandla Stenberg revealed that they auditioned for the role of Shuri—which ultimately went to breakout star Letitia Wright—but bowed out of the running for a very thoughtful reason.
“One of the most challenging things for me to do was to walk away from Black Panther,” Stenberg, who uses “they/them” pronouns, revealed. “I got really, really close and they were like, ‘Do you want to continue fighting for this?’ And I was like, this isn’t right.”
In the film, Shuri is T’Challa’s genius little sister, the teen whiz who keeps Wakanda so technologically advanced. Like the rest of the principal cast, Letitia Wright is a dark-skinned black actor. Stenberg, who is bi-racial, said they wouldn’t have been a natural fit for the film.
“These are all dark-skinned actors playing Africans, and I feel like it would have just been off to see me as a bi-racial American with a Nigerian accent just pretending that I’m the same color as everyone else in the movie,” Stenberg said. “That was really challenging, to make that decision, but I have no regrets. I recognize 100 percent that there are spaces that I should not take up and when I do take up a space it’s because I’ve thought really, really critically about it and I’ve consulted people I really trust and it feels right.”
Stenberg isn’t the first star to walk away from a superhero movie for ethical reasons. Actor Ed Skrein, who is white, dropped out of the Hellboy reboot last year when he realized the character he was playing was actually Japanese-American in the original comic books. “Representing this character in a culturally accurate way holds significance for people,” he said in a much-circulated tweet explaining his decision. The role was later filled by actor Daniel Dae Kim, who is Korean-American. Kim later posted a photo of the two of them chumming it up at a restaurant, presumably bonding over movies and their perfectly chiseled cheekbones.

Even without Black Panther, Stenberg’s profile has been on the rise over the last few years, thanks to their outspokenness about activism and busy slate. Their next project is The Hate U Give, the adaptation of Angie Thomas’s bestseller about a teen girl coping with police brutality.

The meaning behind the crowns and robes worshipers wore during an AR-15 blessing

The meaning behind the crowns and robes worshipers wore during an AR-15 blessing ceremony
At a blessing ceremony held Wednesday night for members of the Unification Church at the World Peace and Unification Sanctuary in Newfoundland, Penn., members wore very specific garb while holding AR-15s, the kind of firearm used by the perpetrator of the school shooting in Parkland, Fla., on Feb. 14.
The white robes, pink overlays, and gold crowns worn by participants in the service weren’t without meaning, Regis Hanna, the media coordinator for Sanctuary Church, tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

The men and women were in fact wearing white “blessing gowns” with bright sashes to signify their role as royal attendants to Pastor Sean Moon, who himself was dressed in a crown and royal robes as the Second King of Cheon Il Guk, the Unification Church’s name for the kingdom of heaven on earth. The design for these blessing gowns was “received in a revelation by a member in Korea in the early days of our movement,” Hanna says.
As he explains, “the Kingdom of Heaven starts from families, so our focus is on building strong, God-centered families.” Therefore, members of the church, who believe that God-centered families are royal families, wear “crowns as co-heirs with Christ, who is the King of Kings.”
And it’s because members see themselves as royal that they also carry AR-15s, Hanna says. “God-centered families are sovereign and prepared to defend themselves and their communities. That is where the need for the Rod of Iron, or the AR-15, comes in. To love God and love our neighbor is what Christ commanded us to do,” Hanna notes.

Rev. Sean Moon’s brother, Justin Moon, is the owner of Kahr Arms, a gun manufacturer. This weekend, Sanctuary Church and Kahr Arms co-sponsored a “President Trump Thank You Dinner” to benefit the Gun Owners Foundation. An AR-15 was raffled off at the event.
Rev. Sean Moon and Justin Moon are the two sons of the late Rev. Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church and a messiah claimant. The Unification Church has come under scrutiny from the hate-crime watchdog group the Southern Poverty Law Center for its anti-LGBT views.

MELANIA TRUMP ENTERED US WITH 'EINSTEIN' VISA DESIGNATED FOR PEOPLE WITH.............

Melania Trump entered US with 'Einstein' visa designated for people with 'extraordinary ability'

Melania Trump entered the United States in 2001 after receiving a green card visa designated for people with "extraordinary ability," according to a new Washington Post report.
The wife to President Trump was one of only five people from Slovenia who entered the United States in March of 2001 under the EB-1 program, which has been described as the "Einstein visa." This detail surrounding the first lady's immigration journey comes after Melania's own parents recently faced criticism for potentially relying on an immigration process referred to by some as "chain migration" that their son in law wants to end.
In the late '90s and earlier 2000's, a then Melania Knauss could be seen gracing runway shows in Europe, billboard cigarette ads and the pages of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition. The EB-1 program, which was written into U.S. immigration policy via the Immigration Act of 1990, was built to let in researchers, business executives and others who demonstrated "sustained national and international acclaim."
According to the Post, over one million green cards were granted in 2001 alone, and only 3,376 were issued to immigration with "extraordinary ability."

"Mrs. Trump was more than amply qualified and solidly eligible," Michael Wildes, an attorney for Melania Trump and her family said to the Post. "There is no reason to adjudicate her petition publicly when her privacy is so important to her."
After ordering the end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy -- which will effectively cease to exist as policy on March 5 -- President Trump has tweeted many times about immigration as he and Capitol Hill lawmakers attempt to find middle ground on issues surrounding national security, border wall protection and the status of an estimated 3.6 million "DREAMers" who brought to the U.S. undocumented as children.

Baby With 4 Hands And 3 Legs Born In Zaria, Kaduna (Photos)

A 24-year-old mother of 3 has given birth to a set of twins in Zaria, with one of them having four hands and three legs. According to DailyTrust, Malama Hawwa’u Jamilu delivered the twins on Sunday, 25th February, 2018. .

Strangely, Hawwa’u was not perturbed about the physique of her baby. She told Daily Trust that she regarded it as part of the might of Allah. “Both of them are female. Of course, one would have loved to deliver the babies without any deformity. But since Allah in His infinite mercy had decided to create the twins like this, what can I do? This is why you see me relaxed, and I love them both.

The only peculiar behaviour exhibited by the deformed twin, is a big appetite. Apart from that. She is normal like any other baby. Have you forgotten that I carried her in my womb for nine months? I love my daughter and I know that she is human, despite her physical challenge," Hawwa’u said, adding that she has given birth three times before now, making the twins her fourth delivery during her six years of marriage. .

Similarly, Hawwa’u said she doesn’t attend ante-natal sessions, saying that she delivered her other children at home, same as the twins. A doctor at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Dr. Umar Abdul’aziz, said the extra leg and hands can be removed and the little girl can have a normal life.

A few days after Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and Minister of State for Healh, Osagie Ehanire came under fire for receiving Yusuf Buhari after his medical trip, video of his arrival at Aso Rock has emerged.

Many had decried the presence of the duo at the State House and wondered if the two office holders had no important engagements.

In the video, Yusuf was seen closely followed by a man who appears to be guiding his left arm.

As he entered a room, he walked straight to his father, President Buhari.

Both greeted and spoke for some seconds.

Others seen in the footage were Yusuf’s mother and First Lady, Aisha Buhari, one of his sisters and Governor Bello.

Yusuf and his friend, Bashir Gwandu, were severely injured along Gwarimpa road in Abuja on December 26, 2017.

He was initially admitted at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja where he received immediate treatment.

The development caused Aisha to be place on bed rest as she suffered high blood pressure.

Pray for Him': Rick Ross Reportedly Found Unresponsive After Emergency Crews Rush to
User Avatar Forum: Music
Posted by: Gimbiya - 03-03-2018, 01:59 PM - No Replies

Rick Ross reportedly had a health scare at his home in the Miami area early Thursday morning.

According to a Davie Police Department report obtained by PEOPLE and first published by The Blast, someone at the Miami mansion belonging to Ross, né William Roberts, called 911 at 3:34 a.m. for emergency medical support — saying a person matching Ross’ description was “unresponsive,” “breathing heavy” and “slobbing out the mouth.”
When the male patient came to, he was “combative” with medical crews, which prompted officers to be called to the scene.
Ross’ former girlfriend and mother of his child, William Roberts III, tells PEOPLE, “Pray for him.”
A rep for Ross, 42, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

TMZ reported that the patient was transported to the hospital via ambulance and received respiratory treatment. A family member “strongly denied” the report of the hospitalization to the website, however TMZ has since updated to claim Ross is on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine (ECMO) and may have suffered a heart attack.
Ross has had a history of seizures, suffering two within six hours of each other in 2011 (his private jet was required to make an emergency landing each time).
In the wake of the health scares, the musician reevaluated his lifestyle of weighing 350 lbs., sleeping for just three hours a night, and pounding back 24-oz. steaks at 4 a.m. As he told Men’s Health in its September 2016 issue, he changed his diet and incorporated exercise into his days — losing 75 lbs.
“I’m happy,” Ross said. “I’m still losing weight, and now I’m starting to build hard muscle in places.”

KYLIE JENNER WANTS THIS YOUTUBER TO STOP TALKING ABOUT HER PRODUCTS
User Avatar Forum: TV
Posted by: Gimbiya - 03-03-2018, 01:42 PM - No Replies

Beauty guru Jeffree Star, whom we last spotted doing his makeup from behind the driver’s seat of a Tesla, has apparently crossed Kylie Jenner for the last time.
Jeffree Star claims Kylie Cosmetics has axed him from the brand’s PR list. Is this fair?
Star, who has given both positive and negative reviews of Kylie Cosmetics in the past, is reveling in the drama on Twitter. “Who’s ready for some piping hot tea today?” he tweeted. He followed up with the beauty world equivalent of a mic drop. “I can confirm I’ve been removed from the Kylie Cosmetics PR list.”
[Image: QclTr74I_normal.jpg]Jeffree Star

@JeffreeStar
I can confirm I’ve been removed from the Kylie Cosmetics PR list. [Image: 1f92e.png][Image: 1f922.png]
4,695 people are talking about this

Star clarified that he believes the removal is due to negative reviews of Jenner’s products. “I love when I speak the truth about a product, and then I get removed… Hahaha these companies really be scared of the truth getting out to a huge audience,” he wrote.
The loss of PR packages also means that, if Star wants to review Kylie products in the future, he’ll have to shill out for the makeup himself. He wants fans to know that he’d rather give honest reviews than receive products for free. “Just for the record, I could care less about getting free products… I buy anything I have ever wanted to review that you guys have told me about. I invest a lot into my channel and this is just pure comedy to me,” Star wrote.

[Image: QclTr74I_normal.jpg]Jeffree Star

@JeffreeStar
I’m in a unique position, reviewing products for a living, as well as having a successful cosmetics company. I owned a brand before I started my channel. Don’t let anyone get it twisted. I will continue to give my 100% honest opinion‘s, no matter what brands try to do.

1,066 people are talking about this
Star also made clear that he maintains a line between his role as a blogger and as a beauty founder. “I owned a brand before I started my channel,” he wrote. “I will continue to give my 100% honest opinions, no matter what brands try to do.”
The move may have been the last straw for Kylie Cosmetics, which has dealt with Star’s shade and his fans’ rage more than once. When Jenner launched a $360 brush set, Star went after her on Twitter.  “Are the new @kyliecosmetics makeup brushes made out of animal hair? Is that why they’re so expensive?? BITCH I’M STILL DUMBFOUNDED!!!!” he wrote. The comments drew attention and led to lower sales for the brush set, Star claims.
The brushes may have been Star’s most publicized Kylie kritique, but he’s railed on the brand more than once in the past. In April 2017, Star may or may not have purposefully preempted a Kylie Cosmetics beauty launch by revealing new shades before she did. Just as Jenner announced the latest lip kits, Star posted a photo with swatches of the shades. For a brand that prides itself on surprises and last-minute drops, the swatch reveal needs to come from Jenner herself. Whether or not Star did it on purpose, Jenner’s team definitely noticed that he didn’t fall in line. In the past, he’s also given negative reviews to her highlighters, liquid lipstick formula, and lip glosses.
It may not be the most subtle solution, but the Kylie Cosmetics team is doing what we’ve always been taught to do to a bully: Cut them off. Will that stop Star from buying and critiquing Jenner’s next big launch? For the love of tea, we hope not.

BEAUTY BLOGGER DROPPED FROM L’ORÉAL SHOOT BECAUSE OF HER PIMPLES (PHOTOS)

BEAUTY BLOGGER DROPPED FROM L’ORÉAL SHOOT BECAUSE OF HER PIMPLES (PHOTOS)
[Image: beauty%2Bblogger%2Bdropped%2Bbecause%2Bo...2Bacne.jpg]
Oh dear! A beauty blogger who has won legions of fans for her honest posts about her struggles with acne was left 'humiliated' after being dropped by L’Oréal because
of her skin issues.
Kadeeja Khan, 21, from Birmingham was approached to be involved with a trip to Paris for the launch of a new vegan hair dye range, but then received an email saying: 'L’Oréal can't be working
with people with skin issues.'
[Image: beauty%2Bblogger%2Bdropped%2Bby%2Bl%2527oreal.jpg]
After I’d already got my hopes up I was completely let down and insulted by their reason for not wanting to work with me,' Kadeeja told The Sun
'It just shows that L’Oreal only want to work with people with perfect skin, but that isn’t real.
'I know internet trolls will say horrible things to me, but to have that confirmed by an international brand has made me feel like there isn’t any space for people like me online.'
[Image: beauty%2Bblogger%2Bdropped%2Bby%2BL%2527Oreal..jpg]
A spokesperson for L’Oréal apologised and said that a modelling agency had accidentally cast multiple bloggers with skin issues for the hair colour launch, and once the mistake was realised, it was 'poorly and insensitively communicated' to people. Kadeeja shared an email from the brand with her 128,000 followers expressing how hurt she felt by the wording.

'To think we're supposed to live in an advanced society that not only ACCEPTS of ALL walks of life but actually embraces people of all backgrounds, religions, ethnicities and disabilities,' she said. 'Shame on you L'Oréal.

In a later post, she explained that the blunder had put her 'in a dark place'.

'I’ve come on this platform to show everyone who I am and what I’m about,' she said.
'I’m trying my best to shine the light on the things that matter. Show everyone that "yes you don’t have to be perfect! Love yourself regardless".
'I’m already use to trolls trying & bring me down.
'But coming from a global international brand? Really hurt.
'It honestly made me feel like their really isn’t any room in the industry for people like me.
'It made me feel that “your worth it” ONLY if your perfect.'
However, she said that it had made her even more determined to carry on posting her honest selfies.
'That has given me fuel,' she said. 'Fuel to continue to show you that you're beautiful no matter what ANYONE says.
[Image: beauty%2Bblogger%2Bdropped%2Bfrom%2Bshoo...pimple.jpg]
That even if it’s someone so huge & big. It still means NOTHING. Never stop loving yourself for who you are & NEVER change.'

L’Oréal's statement
We deeply apologise for any upset caused, and have made direct contact with the individuals involved to clarify this unfortunate misunderstanding.“
The photoshoot was designed to support a new hair colour launch and feature hairdressers and lifestyle bloggers. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding resulted in the agency casting bloggers with skin concerns for this shoot.
This resulted in the wrong profile being cast, which was then poorly and insensitively communicated to the individuals concerned.
We do not have regulations in place that restrict us from working with people with skin conditions. At L’Oréal we work with women and men with all skin types and celebrate beauty in all its diversity.

YOU WALK AROUND HERE LIKE IT'S STILL YOUR HOUSE': KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN SETS 'BOUNDARIES' WITH SCOTT DISICK
[Image: kourtney%2Bkardashian%2Bsets%2Bboundarie...disick.jpg]
Reality star and mum of 3, Kourtney Kardashian asked her former partner Scott Disick to respect her 'boundaries' amid her new romance with
Younes Bendjima.
The 38-year-old reality star has son Mason, eight, daughter Penelope, five, and son Reign, three, with her former beau - whom she split with in 2015 after nine years of on/off dating.
The reality TV starlet said that whilst 34-year-old Scott still visits her home in order to see his brood, new boundaries must be put in place now that she’s moved on with hunky model Younes.

The eldest Kardashian sibling spoke to Scott - who is now romancing 19-year-old Sofia Richie - during a preview clip for Sunday’s season finale of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Kourtney said: 'I just felt like we should discuss some of the boundaries in the house. I feel like sometimes because this was your house, sometimes I feel like you walk in like it still is.'

Kourtney - who has been dating 24-year-old Younes since 2016 - cited one particular incident when Scott wandered into her bedroom to look for sunglasses, and said the room should now be a private space.

'Okay, there’s obviously some boundaries that we both need to respect and I don’t want you to be uncomfortable. I get it. All things that are understandable in this co-parenting life.'

And the 34-year-old star even had a boundary of his own to suggest.

He said: 'I was also thinking I have a boundary. I don’t really wanna hug anymore. I think we should just shake hands when we see each other. Is that cool?'

Parents of big Brother Naija housemate Bambam whose strategic partner is Teddy A, were earlier reported to have been angered by her viral blurry 'play'video on the show and so ordered that she returns home with immediate effect. But her management team has however debunked the report.
According to an official statement released by her management team on Instagram, her parents have never requested that she gets of the Big Brother Naija show. They claimed it was just a rumour spread by haters who simply wanted to use the medium to get famous and trend.
In a post on her official Instagram page, her management said,
‘there’s been false news circulating on social media about BamBam’s parents requesting for her to leave the big brother house to return home, this news is very false as the supposed person is not family, friend or even supporter of BamBam, I repeat it is COMPLETELY FALSE and as such should be disregarded’
The statement continued, ‘we do not know the said user from anywhere and as such have serious affiliations with her. It’s the work of unscrupulous elements and it is what it is. SEE WHAT PREGNANT GHANAIAN WOMEN ARE DOING TO BLEACH UNBORN BABIES’ SKIN
[Image: pregnant%2Bwomen%2Bin%2Bghana%2Bbleachin...babies.jpg]
This is insane! What is wrong with having melanin free of charge and getting free protection from sun burn. According to viral reports, pregnant women in Ghana, are allegedly taking
pills to bleach their unborn babies from dark to light… This is due to the general fact that most Ghanaian babies are born dark.
The pills work by creating chemical reactions that reduce the secretion of hormones that darken the skin of the child, making them light-skinned while they are still in the womb.
One of the drugs in question, Glutathione is one of the most talked-about supplements in the healthcare industry. However, mothers have begun manipulating its side effects to alter the complexion of their unborn babies.
Medical experts however says the drug use is illegal, as it can cause birth defects, including damage to the baby’s limb and internal organs.
Ghana‘s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says using these pills for this purpose is dangerous, adding it wants “the general public to know that no product has been approved by the FDA in the form of a tablet to lighten the skin of the unborn child”.
“The use of these drugs has gone to an alarming stage; it is ignorance that is making people do so,” the FDA’s head of cosmetics and household chemicals, Emmanuel Nkrumah, said at a media-sensitisation workshop on unapproved bleaching pills and products.
“[The only things] that you take orally should be food, toothpaste and mouthwash, and not bleaching pills,” Nkrumah said.
The practice is growing in Ghana, according to the FDA, with pills often smuggled into the country inside luggage at airports in large quantities.
Although comprehensive data has not yet been gathered, the body says market surveillance and stakeholder activity have helped to reveal the trend among women crosses socio-economic divides.
Security agencies and police are working together to arrest and prosecute companies and individuals in possession of the illegal tablets.
In Nigeria, skin bleaching creams are the fad. The practice is so common that there are grades, depending on the financial capacity of the interested party.
In Ghana, the case is similar. A number of the country’s celebrities, quite like Nigeria, have been accused of bleaching their skin over time.

Tenure Extension: APC To Hold Fresh NEC Meeting
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 03-03-2018, 11:51 AM - No Replies

Quote:The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed another National Executive Council (NEC) meeting for this month to fix the controversies arising from the one-year tenure extension granted the John Oyegun-led National Working Committee (NWC).

Mr Bolaji Abdullahi, national spokesperson of the party and a beneficiary of the extension, confirmed the coming meeting to Saturday Tribune.

The date for the meeting is for President Muhammadu Buhari to fix. As of press time, he had not communicated a definite date to the party leadership.

A party source said the exact date would be dependent on the president’s convenience.

The controversial extension granted Oyegun and his NWC team at Tuesday’s NEC meeting, is generating ripples among party stakeholders who wanted a new national leadership, particularly the South-West wing of the party.

Lagos, Osun and Oyo governors, allies of the national leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu were not present at the last NEC meeting.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki was also absent.

He claimed a tight schedule for his absence.

Abdullahi, also confirmed that the coming NEC meeting would be used to fill the lacuna in the extension granted the embattled NWC.

The amendment is expected to read what the NWC members would enjoy from May when their tenure officially ends, and that it is not an extension but acting appointments.

Whoever doesn’t fancy staying longer than May, among them, would be at personal liberty to leave, a party source told Saturday Tribune.

A couple of NWC members had complained of poor funding of the party.

The report of the Nasir el-Rufai panel on restructuring is also on the card for consideration during the meeting.

Governors elected on the platform of the party had joined colleagues in opposition, to agree to state police.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, a statutory NEC member of the party, had also spoken on the state police push.

His public stance is taken to be President Buhari’s private endorsement.

The National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly are in the process of rounding off on the proposed amendment to the 1999 constitution (as amended) to reflect constitutional restructuring of the polity.

Amendments made to the party’s constitution which Oyegun NWC had approved, will also be considered at the coming NEC meeting, Abdullahi confirmed.

Nearly all members of the party’s NEC had received electronic copies of the revised constitution for study, ahead of the meeting, Saturday Tribune was told.

Highlights of the revised constitution include; compulsory membership due’s payment with attendant sanctions for defaulters, whittling of governors influence in picking candidates for local government elections, granting of waiver to new members to seek elective positions, strengthening of the office of the chairman of the party, general party discipline, internal democracy, among others.

The party’s spokesperson also confirmed the fixing of dates for governorship primary elections in Ekiti and Osun States.

While the party’s candidate will emerge for Ekiti governorship election on May 5, Osun will have a go at it on July 7.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fixed July 14 for Ekiti governorship election and September 22 for the Osun poll.

With the rocky relations between Tinubu and Oyegun, the peace and reconciliation agenda of the party, may have run into a hitch, with Oyegun staying beyond May 2018, a party source has disclosed.

Tinubu signed on leadership change at the top echelon of the party and had publicly engaged the national chairman in war-of-words.

Saturday Tribune gathered that while the party leadership has encouraged those on its trouble-shooting expedition to troubled state chapters, to make their reports available to Tinubu’s peace committee, the move is believed to be pacifist, because the party national leadership, according to senior sources, would end up implementing the peace recommendations.

Despite being a presidential assignment, Saturday Tribune’s checks showed that Buhari would still require the party leadership in Abuja to relate with the state chapters, to implement the peace deal.

A source close to Tinubu disclosed that “the whole thing (peace assignment) now appears like a mockery.

MAN WHO WAS FORCED INTO AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE AT 24 NARRATES WHATS HAPPENING IN THE MARRIAGE
[Image: man%2Bforced%2Binto%2Bmarriage%2Bat%2B24...rriage.jpg]
A Nigerian man has revealed how his family members forced him into an early marriage arranged by them. He stated that they felt like since he was 24 years and had a good job already, then he should get married.

According to him, his family believes that when a male child has a job and he’s earning money no matter how little, then he’s ready for marriage. He further that it was an arranged marriage and he wasn’t given the opportunity to get to know the lady that was arranged for him.

However, he finds it difficult to love the lady after the marriage even as he tries so much to love her, but the feeling wouldn’t just come. He summoned courage and spoke to his wife about how he felt and she said she felt the same way too.

The lady then eventually opened up that she was also in love with someone else and didn’t like the fact that her marriage to him was arranged even without her consent

Read his full story below as shared by THOA;

“I got married when I was 24 years. My family believes that when a male child has a job and he’s earning money no matter how little, then he’s ready for marriage. It was an arranged marriage, I wasn’t given the opportunity to get to know her. My parents said ‘She’s from a good family and that’s the most important thing’. We got married and I tried to love her but found it very difficult. She wasn’t my type of woman. I spoke to my parents about it but they wouldn’t hear of it, they said ‘Give it more time Yusuf’ and I did, yet the love didn’t come.

I got the courage and spoke to the woman I got married to about how I felt and she said she felt the same way. She said she had someone she loved and wasn’t happy being married to me. We spoke about it and we finally decided to go our separate ways. There wasn’t much our families could do to keep us together, so they let us separate. She’s now married to the love of her life and she has 2 kids. I saw her last week and she looked very happy. I am yet to find someone though, but I know I will soon.”

Nigerian troops suffered a massive setback in the war against terrorism as Boko Haram terrorists sprung a surprise attack on Rann killing at least a dozen people and injuring several others.

A security source told Saharareporters that the terror group stormed military base of the 3rd Battalion in Rann headquarters of Kala-Balge on Thursday at about 6 pm and engaged in a gun duel that lasted for 5 hours. The terror group also abducted three aid workers (2 from ICRC clinic team and 1 from UNICEF) in addition to killing a UNICEF doctor, and two workers from the International Organization for Migration

On the military side, the terror group abducted at least three soldiers, killed three Mobile Policemen attached to an internally displaced person camp and made away with a military truck and an Armored personnel carrier belonging to the Nigerian army.

Rann is a small town in Borno State, Northeastern Nigeria, and a home to a camp for internally displaced people. In January 2017, a Nigerian military jet mistakenly bombed a refugee camp, killing more than 100 people.

Many civilians including personnel of International Committee of the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) were wounded in the attack.

Saraki’s Camp Kicks As ‘rebel’ Group Unveils Members
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 03-03-2018, 11:46 AM - No Replies

The unveiling of members of the new group that emerged in the Senate has upset the camp of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Daily Trust gathered.

Daily Trust had last week exclusively reported the emergence of the group as a result of the crisis that trailed the passage of the reordered election sequence.

It was gathered the roll call of the group was unveiled at a meeting late Thursday night held at the residence of a former governor who is a senator.

An impeccable source in the group said the group has been christened, “Pro Buhari Senators”. He said the agenda of the group was to champion Buhari’s cause and rebel against any legislation or act targeted at him.

The membership of the group has been leaked to the Saraki camp, but was requested not to be made public, hence the apprehension.

The source said they had 11 senators in the Southwest, 4 in South south, 2 in Southeast, 3 in North central, 11 in Northwest and 9 in Northeast. In all, he said they have 40 senators. However, one of the names mentioned in the list told our correspondent that he had never attended any meeting of the group.

He said he was wary of participating because of the attitude of the president towards the legislature.

But a senator in Saraki’s camp punctured the claim of the group, saying the rebels are in minority. He advised the rebel group to turn a new leaf by supporting the leadership of the Senate to strengthen the legislative arm of government.

2019: Fresh Crisis Hits PDP As Party Elders Dump Party For SDP
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 03-03-2018, 11:42 AM - No Replies

Three former ministers are leading an exodus of top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after efforts to heal the wounds of the last national convention of the party hit the rocks.

Ex-Information Minister Jerry Gana,ex-Education Minister Tunde Adeniran and ex-Niger Delta Minister Godsday Orubebe are moving to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) which is merging with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Peoples Salvation Party (PSP) to form a formidable party ahead of next year’s elections.

More chieftains of the PDP are expected to join them, The Nation gathered yesterday.
The Olusegun Obasanjo-inspired Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) is in talks with the SDP to work together.

The likes of Gana, Adeniran and Orubebe, all founding members of the PDP, are still displeased with what they see as the hijack of the party by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and others during the party’s last national convention.

Adeniran was defeated in a bitter chairmanship election by Wike’s candidate, Uche Secondus.
A high powered committee headed by Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State to reconcile the aggrieved members could not help the situation.
The aggrieved party chieftains launched into a marathon meeting/negotiation with the leadership of SDP on Thursday night in Abuja for a merger.

The meeting ended early yesterday with the the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the coalescing group at Ladi Kwali Hall in Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.
Joining Gana from the PDP are a former Military Administrator of Katsina State, Sen. Joseph Akaagerger; a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe; Chief Mike Oghiadhome, who was a former Chief of Staff to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan; ex-Governor Saminu Turaki of Jigawa State; and ex-Minister of Defence, Dr. Olu Agunloye and a former Deputy Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Dare Emiola.

Also teaming up with SDP are a former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Junaid Mohammed; Sen. Bassey Ewa Hensaw; a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olamide Oni; Supo Shonibare (South-West Zonal chairman of SDP), Hon. Dipo Olaitan (a former leader of the Alliance for Democracy in the House of Representatives); a former Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Kehinde Ayoola; Amb. Yemi Farounbi; leaders of the Middle Belt Forum; Mr. John Dara; the leaders of the National Intervention Forum led by Dr. Tafawa Balewa; Amb Bejide; Shehu Gabam who gave the vote of thanks.

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae is a stalwart of the SDP.
Although ex-Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and a former Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Ibrahim Mantu were part of the preliminary talks, it was unclear why they were not at the signing of the MoU.
A highly placed source in the group said:”As a matter of fact, Mantu propped up the name of a party which should be included in the merger but it was rejected. He attended the initial meeting but by the time the MoU was signed, he was not there.

“We are hopeful that he will be at our subsequent meetings. Some of our leaders are suspecting that Mantu may chicken out because he has been begging Adeniran and Gana not to leave PDP.
The MoU entered into by the leaders was obtained yesterday by The Nation.

Jointly signed by Falae (for SDP) and Prof. Gana (for Movement for a New Political Order), the MoU reads in part: “Whereas on the 12th Day of February 2018, a joint resolution was adopted at Sheraton Hotel Abuja, for working together to ensure the emergence of a new and credible political order to deepen democracy, good governance and genuine development, with peace, security and social justice. The said meeting also unanimously resolved to build:

a)a restructured, balanced equitable and truly functional Nigerian Federation:
b)a humane, free, seIf-reliant and democratic society;
1. c) a dynamic, productive, transformed and sustainable economy;
2. d) a just, fair, egalitarian and peaceful nation
3. e) a land of bright and full of opportunities for all Nigerians; and
4. f) a national culture of raising good leaders through effective mentoring;
“Whereas, it was also agreed that the proposed movement shall be directed, driven and defined by such core values as: 1. Justice, fairness, equity and progress; 2. Democracy, good leadership, good governance and sustainable development; 3. Transparency, integrity, truth and honour; 4. Accountability and zero tolerance for corruption; 5. Respect for human dignity, human rights and sanctity of human life;; and 6. Peace, security, harmony, cooperative solidarity, within the rule of law; and 7. International cooperation for a common humanity within a secure and peaceful order.

“Whereas, the movement further resolved to be inspired and motivated by the ideals of social democracy, with great emphasis on: the triumph of social justice; the nobility of human dignity; the harmony of fairness and equality; the power of working together in solidarity; the excellence of good governance, driven by good leadership; the wisdom of reforms and transformation far beyond mere growth; the horror of poverty, demanding eradication; the dignity of prosperity; the imperative of democracy and the security of peace with justice

“Whereas with due reference to these objectives, core values, and ideals, a Strategy Committee was mandated to search for a suitable, popular, meaningful and widespread platform, with a name that already resonates with the people and to make appropriate recommendations; and
“Whereas, the Strategic Committee, comprising representatives from all the six geopolitical zones of the Federation, have met and submitted their report, unanimously recommending the adoption of Social Democratic Party(SDP) vehicle by the movement for a new political order:

“Therefore, we hereby resolutely agree to: (a) Fuse together into one political form; (b) adopt the Social Democratic Party(SDP) as the political vehicle for the fused political formation; © Convene a non-elective convention for Saturday, 14th April, 2018; (d) authorize the National Working Committee to serve as the Interim Management Committee until the said convention; Set up a National Steering Committee of 12 members to guide the Interim Management Committee during the transition period; Raise a Constitution Review Committee to consider all necessary amendments to the party constitution.”
Speaking with our correspondent last night, Dr. Junaid Mohammed said: “Those involved in SDP are the Peoples Redemption Party(PRP), Peoples Salvation Party(PSP), the Social Democratic Party(SDP) and some elements of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). It was like a merger but we do not want to call it so because the All Progressives Congress(APC) has destroyed the concept of merger.

“I am an optimist, I believe SDP will make a great impact. The main reason I want to be associated with it is because it is ideologically driven. Even it was not ideologically driven before, it has to be ideologically driven.

Asked if some governors and National Assembly members have subscribed to SDP, Mohammed added: “It is not compulsory to have governors or members of the National Assembly in a party to succeed. There are about 65 to 67 parties thereabout in the country. In terms of electoral performance, most of the parties are not on ground. The two parties which have led the country are not doing well. They have impacted negatively on the economy and our political life. A three-party or a four or five -party system will be better.”
A top source in the SDP said: “The SDP has been approached by the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) which has been founded by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo. We are hopeful that our ongoing talks will be fruitful.

“We share common ideals with the CNM on how to move the nation forward.

MICROSOFT SUPPORTS GHANA SCHOOL TEACHER SEEN TEACHING COMPUTER ON CHALKBOARD
[Image: microsoft%2Bsupports%2BGhana%2Bteacher%2...kboard.jpg]
After photos of a teacher in Ghana teaching his students about the computer with drawing on the board, went viral. A lady tagged Microsoft and requested that they assist the school with a computer.
Microsoft replied in the affirmative and also promised to

support the teacher with further training to equip him with more advanced skills.
The teacher who became an online sensation after photos of him drawing a computer on a blackboard, claimed there was no computer in the school and they had to improvise to tutor the students who were so much willing to learn.
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teacher, Richard Appiah Akoto decided to be innovative in the face of lacking teaching and learning materials. So Akoto had an ingeniously simple idea: he drew computer features and software on his blackboard, using multicolored chalk.
Pictures of Richard Appiah Akoto drawing a Microsoft word interface on a board for his pupils were shared on Twitter.
Social media exploded in admiration and wonder at his effort to explain how the computers works. Some people went as far as saying the guy should be nominated for a Nobel Prize award.

[Image: Microsoft-supports-Ghana-teacher-seen-te...29x410.png]
Among the hundreds of people who shared the post and helped popularize it was Rebecca Enonchong, an entrepreneur who urged Microsoft Africa on Twitter to provide Akoto with some proper devices so he can leave the chalkboard behind.

On Tuesday, Microsoft Africa replied, promising Akoto a
computer and access to educational material.

“Teaching of ICT in Ghana’s school is very funny,” he says on the caption accompanying the post

CHEATING HUSBAND SLAPPED BY BOTH WIFE AND MISTRESS DURING CONFRONTATION (VIDEO)
[Image: cheating%2Bhusband%2Bbeaten%2Bby%2Bboth%...stress.jpg]
Both cheeks suffer as wife and mistress land slaps on cheating husband! A spurned wife got her own back in dramatic fashion when she confronted her cheating husband and his alleged mistress in
public.

A shocking clip , believed to have been filmed earlier this week, was shot on the streets of Shaanxi Province in north-western China.

It shows the man being slapped by his mistress when she realises he has been lying about being single.

The wife allegedly first grabbed hold of the young mistress's hair as the man protected his lover and tried to free her.

The woman said: "Call the police! This is my husband."

[Image: wife%2Band%2Bmistress%2Bslap%2Bcheating%2Bhusband.jpg]
The husband then roared: "Let go!" "Call the police!" the wife repeated, to which a bystander said: "Let go of her first."

During the scuffle, the wife appeared to realise the alleged 'homewrecker' was clueless about the affair too and let her go.

After being freed, the younger woman slapped her boyfriend, saying: "Why have you been lying to me all this time?"

Video shows the wife cling onto her husband's shirt as he appears to strike her.

"Hit me," she tells her spouse," adding: "I've been with you for 20 years. I'm not going anywhere. The man is then yelled at by both his spouse and his lover, as the spurned wife turns her attention fully on the unfaithful husband.

"I've been married to him for 20 years!" she repeats, adding: "I'm not going anywhere."

The husband draws gasps from the crowd when he punches his wife in the face after she refuses to let go of him and calls him "heartless."

Towards the end of the video, the heartbroken wife, who says she is in her 40s, reveals to the crowd of onlookers: "He wanted me to give him a son." "I had twin girls, but he wanted a son," she added.

She holds him by the back of his shirt collar as the trio cross the street and the video ends.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (FREE MARCH PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*THE LIFE OF CHRIST IN YOU .*

Saturday, March 3rd .
Pastor Chris

_*And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life (1 John 5:11-12).*_

There’re those who don’t think there’s any difference between Christianity and the religions of the world, and they’re so wrong. Christianity is beyond religion; it’s the pulsating life of Christ in a human person. It’s the outworking of divinity in humanity. It’s the revelation of Christ in you.

The real essence of Christianity is the fact that Christ Jesus literally lives in your spirit by the Holy Spirit; the presence of God literally dwells in you. This was man’s craving from the very beginning; man craved a relationship with the divine and that’s the reason for all the religions of the world: man seeking a relationship with this supernatural being he believes is out there even though he’s never met him.

But that’s why Jesus came: to make fellowship and relationship with God a possibility, and He achieved it. Through that fellowship, we were given eternal life; the life and nature of God was imparted to the spirit of the man who received Christ. Now, He (Jesus) told us to preach the Gospel and tell the whole world that eternal life is available in His Name.

He said in John 10:10 (NIV), _*“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”*_ The Christ-life in its fullness is what you received when you received Jesus as Lord of your life. The Bible says in Colossians 3:4 that Christ is our life; He’s the life of the one who’s born again. What a Gospel!

This is what He wants us to preach and teach around the world: Christ in you, the hope of glory! Now, a relationship with Almighty God is possible; righteousness is possible and available. All it takes is to believe: _*“…whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life”*_ (John 3:15).

*PRAYER*

*I’m born of God, and Christ lives in me by the Holy Spirit. The life of God and His righteousness have been imparted to my spirit; I have God’s nature of righteousness and His life flows through my being. I’m a witness for Christ, producing fruits of righteousness, and revealing His glory to my world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *John 3:14-15* And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. *||*

*||* *Colossians 3:3* For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. *||*

*||* *Colossians 1:27* To whom God would make known what [is] the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: *||*

Proscription Order: IPOB Heads To Appeal Court
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 03-02-2018, 10:03 PM - No Replies

Quote:THE interdicted Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), yesterday filed an application at the Court of Appeal seeking to upturn its proscription and declaration as a terrorist organisation.

The group was legally proscribed last year by Justice Adamu Kafarati of the Federal High Court, in an ex-parte application filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

On January 18, Justice Kafarati rejected a motion by IPOB, seeking among others, the reversal of the order.

But on Thursday (1/3/2018) the outlawed organisation urged the Court of Appeal to set aside the entire decision by the Federal High Court, including the order proscribing it and declaring it a terrorist group.

The application was filed by their lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor.

In the appeal which has five grounds, the group argued that the mandatory statutory condition requiring the President’s approval, under Section 2 (1) © of the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act, 2013, was not met.

It also argued that the memo purportedly giving an approval to the AGF’s request for the proscription of IPOB was signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari, instead of President Muhammadu Buhari himself as stipulated by law.

“The trial judge erred in law, when he ruled that the mandatory statutory condition requiring president’s approval, under Section 2 (1) © of the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act, 2013, was satisfied, on the authority of the Memo of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation to the President dated September 15, 2017, thereby occasioning a miscarriage of justice.

“A cursory look at the Memo of the Attorney General of the Federation dated 15th day of September 2017, addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, being relied upon or referred to by the learned trial judge, as constituting the mandatory President’s approval granted before an application Exparte for the proscription of the appellant’s activities and its designation as terrorist organisation, was made to the court, shows that it is a mere memo from the Attorney General of the Federation to the President requesting for the said President’s approval, prescribed under Section 2 (1)© of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act, 2013, and not the mandatory President’s approval envisaged under the Act.

“The purported President’s approval dated the September 18, 2017 addressed to the Hon. Attorney General of the Federation & Minister of Justice, captioned “Approval of the President, Commander-In-chief of the Armed Forces for the declaration/proscription of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a Terrorist Organization pursuant to section 2(I) (A) (B) & © of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013”, was signed by ABBA KYARI, designated as Chief of Staff to the President, and was not signed by the President as required under Section 2 (1)© of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act, 2013.

“Under Section 40 of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act, 2013, which deals with the interpretation of words or phrases, the word “President” as used in the Act, refers and only means the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and acts specified under the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act to be done by the President must be done by the President himself, the Act does not provide for this specialised power to be delegated to any officer, staff or personnel of the President to act, on behalf of the President.

“The important condition that the President will have to give his approval was neither satisfied by the Attorney General’s memo of September 15, 2017 nor corrected by the purported approval signed by the Chief of Staff to the President.

“There was no valid approval given by the President in the Memo, in satisfaction of the mandatory requirement under section 2 (1)© of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013,” it said.

The appellant argued in the second ground of appeal that “the learned trial judge erred in law, when upon his formulation of issues arising for determination in the ruling delivered on the January 18, 2018, and in consideration therefore, arrived on findings of facts that were grossly faulted by non-evaluation of affidavit evidence placed before the court, and recondite issues of law set out for the trial court’s determination, by the appellant; thereby occasioning a miscarriage of justice.”

Former President General Ibrahim Babangida, on Thursday evening, held a closed door meeting with Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) at the former’s hilltop mansion in Minna, the Niger State capital.

According to a very reliable source closed to the hilltop mansion, the meeting which took place at the inner parlour at the upper terrace of the building lasted for about three hours.

It was gathered that Gen. Danjuma arrived at the Minna airport at exactly 11:45a.m and was driven straight to the Babangida mansion and was ushered into the private parlour.

The duo, it was gathered went into the meeting at about 1:00p.m after they had lunch when they asked every other guests that accompanied the visitor to excused them.

The meeting ended 4:05p.m. and Gen. Danjuma made way straight to his host private Mercedes Benz E class that brought him from the airport and zoomed off.

Journalists were caught unawares with the visit, but our source in the home of the retired army general said the meeting might not be unconnected with the current security and political situations in the country.

“I am very sure that they must have discussed the general situation in the country, both security and the political situation”

“Nobody was in the parlour with them. It was only two of them. The meeting started after they had lunch together and it lasted for about three hours.

“Gen. Danjuma left the house here exactly 4:05 and he was taken straight to the airport. That is all I can tell you about the visits. He was actually here and they met,” the source added.

The meeting is coming barely three weeks after Babangida released his controversial letter to President Mohammadu Buhari, advising him not to contest the 2019 general election.

Ibrahim Little Shot By Gunmen In Kaduna (Photo)

A prominent Kano politician, Alhaji Ibrahim Little, was shot and wounded by unknown gunmen suspected to be along Airport Road in Kaduna state. It was gathered that the gunmen opened fire at Little and his driver while they were about entering the car after coming out from the farm.

According to reports, the gunmen shot the politician on the arm and he fell to the ground. Probably thinking that he died, they ran back into the bush. But after some time he was able to struggle and come out and drove to Kaduna with the driver.

Ibrahim El-Amin, popularly known as Ibrahim Little, an ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and ex-chieftain of All Progressive Congress, APC, in Kano State dumped the party and defected to the opposition PDP last year.

Mr. Little was the Kano chairman of the defunct All Peoples Party, APP, in 2003.

Mr. Little said although he holds President Muhammadu Buhari in high esteem and sees him as someone who believes in a better Nigeria, the president’s aides have hijacked his government.

The politician also said he decamped to the PDP because he believed the North-west had not benefitted so much from the Buhari administration unlike the South-west.

"You Will Benefit From Restructuring" - Atiku Tells North
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 03-02-2018, 09:58 PM - No Replies

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, yesterday, urged Northern opponents of the proposal not to kill themselves over the South’s vanishing oil, while dismissing insinuations that restructuring of the country would benefit the South to the disadvantage of the North.

Abubakar spoke at a book launch in Lagos where former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd), affirmed that Nigerians must come together, irrespective of political or ethnicities, to frontally confront the issues that challenge the unity of the country.

They spoke at the launch of a book, “In the belly of vultures,” written by veteran journalist and erstwhile Managing Director of Daily Times of Nigeria, Tola Adeniyi.

The book launch was witnessed by some of the country’s leading personalities, among whom were some former governors, including Aremo Segun Osoba (Ogun), Dr. Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Gbenga Daniel (Ogun), Otunba Niyi Adebayo (Ekiti), among several other dignitaries which also included Vanguardpublisher, Mr Sam Amuka, and formerConcord Newspapers Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Doyin Abiola.

Atiku, who was represented by Prof. Maxwell Gidado, said: “Restructuring is not a sectional thing or sectional demand. And it will not benefit only some sections of the country and hurt others. It will benefit the whole country.

“Those who fear that it is designed to hurt them to the benefit of others or to benefit only them at the expense of others are grossly mistaken.

“A country, including its economy, is like an organism. Thus, what affects one part affects the other parts and the country as a whole. The existing structure impedes our progress as a nation irrespective of what specific sections think.

“Similarly, restructuring, if properly done, will benefit the whole nation, whatever the short term inconveniences a section or sections may feel.”

Talking about the current geopolitical struggle over oil resources, Atiku said: “Our current structure, which is based on oil rents, is vulnerable because oil has probably reached its peak as the chief energy source for the world economy.

‘’You probably know that the world’s major automobile manufacturers and oil consumers have announced dates between 2025 and 2040 to end the manufacture and sale of fossil fuel-only vehicles.

“This is important for all of us and especially for those in the oil-producing region, where some people sometimes talk about restructuring as though it is designed to punish the North. The good news for the North is that a restructured Nigeria is in the North’s long-term economic interest.

“We should not be fighting for a bigger share of what is a disappearing resource. It amounts to a fight for a bigger share of the past, and not the future. So both the oil-bearing sections and non-oil bearing sections of this country need to pay more attention to agriculture, fisheries, renewable energy, biotechnology, information technology, Nano-technology, artificial intelligence and so on.”

On the other hand, General Babangida in his remarks, urged Nigerians to unite to proffer solutions to the country’s challenges, adding that a united Nigeria would give everyone the opportunity to discuss challenges and possible solutions to the country’s problems.

Represented by ex-Minister of communications, Major General Tjudeen (retd), the General said: “All Nigerians must not lose the ability to discuss national issues calmly and respectfully regardless of party affiliations and other differences.

“We must come together as a unified entity to solve our collective problems. Therefore, we must not allow hate speeches and fake news destroy the fabrics of our national cohesion.”

On his part, Mr Amuka said restructuring was a key component of the solutions needed to address the challenges facing Nigeria.

He said: “Though I have been part of numerous meetings where it was suggested that without restructuring, Nigeria could not go on, pragmatically, how best can we effect it?

“And some of the solutions proffered by Tola Adeniyi in his book are for us to embark on a National Government. Fine as it was suggested but how do we achieve it, considering the circumstances facing the country?”

Dr. Abiola, widow of the deceased business mogul, Bashorun Moshood Abiola, on her part, said she had paid the price by walking her talk.

“Some of us paid the price for walking the talk. And for now, I am happy in the comfort of my grand-children. We are the vultures, and the sole advice I have for all is to pay adequate attention to your children and grand-children. That is where hope lies.’’

While explaining reasons for publishing the book, Adeniyi said journalistic materials, articles, and stories were historical materials written in a hurry which could be lost.

“But once we have it in a book form, everyone, including unborn generations, can always make reference to it. In over 50 years of writing, I already wrote over 20,000 articles.

I’m Not Bothered About Second Term In Office — El-rufai
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 03-02-2018, 09:56 PM - No Replies

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, yesterday, said he was not bothered about second term in office, stressing that posterity will judge him on his ongoing efforts to transform the state.

Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, El-Rufai also described the emergence and attainment of power of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2015 as a “miracle.”He said the emergence of the APC and its clinching on to power in less than four years of its formation was a miracle and that the party would repeat the same feat in any election.

The governor spoke while delivering the maiden public lecture of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, entitled,”Governing Justly: Perspectives From Near & Far With Lessons From Nigeria.” The governor said at 58, he was not looking for any job, saying cancelling what he has doing in Kaduna today will be politically costly for any administration that comes after his to do because of their nature.

He added that he is not bothered about agitation for second term in office, hence he is taking well grounded decisions that would stand the test of time.

El-Rufai also boasted that there was no threat to the success of the party ahead of the 2019 general elections in the state and beyond because, according to him, the party has no formidable opposition that could stop it.

The governor said many people that voted for the APC in 2015 voted for the party “because they were tired of the PDP. Many people voted not really for APC but against PDP,” he said.

The governor labelled those agitating within the party as “rascals, trouble-makers and noise makers,” who only wanted the party to continue in the PDP ways of sharing money.

He said: “The APC has no opposition, the opposition we have is no opposition because the opposition is within the APC, there are many unhappy people, we also have many rascals, trouble makers and noise makers.

“They are simply disgruntled because they are used to the PDP ways of doing things: every month give me money, Paris Club is here, where is my money? They will remain in opposition until you have a way to alienate them.”

The governor blamed the elite for the challenges confronting Nigerians because of what he described as craze for “elite’s entitlements and selfish interests.” “The Nigerian elite is corrupt, selfish, self centred and largely divided. Like I said, there is need for consensus of the Nigerian elite,” the governor said.

On the recent religious crisis that broke out in the state, the governor said 15 persons have lost their lives to the crisis while 45 were injured.

He traced the genesis of the crisis to the case of a Christian girl who was dating a Muslim guy and wanted to convert to Islam because he wanted to marry him, a development which he said sparked of the crisis.

No Evidence Of Underage Voting In Kano – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fact-finding team on alleged underage voting in the last Kano council poll said it has not received any evidence of underage voting.

The Chairman of the committee, Abubakar Nahuce, told journalists on Friday that from his team’s interaction with civil society organisations and media, no evidence of underage voting has emerged.

INEC set up the committee following public outcry that greeted videos and photos of underage voting believed to have been shot during the Kano election.

“From all what we have seen and discussed with you media men, none of you has seen any underage voter in the line or voting,” Mr. Nahuce said on Friday.
The team has so far met with the chairman of the Kano Sate Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), the media and other relevant bodies.

Quote:
“WHY I NAMED MY 7 AIRCRAFTS AFTER MY WIFE & KIDS” – AIR PEACE AIRLINES CHAIRMAN, ALLEN ONYEMA

Written by City People

Many people don’t know Allen Ifechukwu Onyema. He is the Chairman of Air Peace Airline. He is a lawyer, businessman and a Conflict resolution expert. One thing that gets this stylish entrepreneur angry all the time is when some people mischievously suggest that Air Peace airline is owned by former first lady, Patience Jonathan and that he (Onyeama) is only fronting for her, simple because the name of the airline is called PEACE and Patience Jonathan is often referred to as Mama Peace.

When City People first met him early this year he complained bitterly about it and he is still complaining. Recently, he complained about the misception to Aviators Africa, a specialised Aviation magazine.

Below are excerpts of his interview on how he set up Air Peace.

Tell us about your growing up?

I am Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, a proud native of Mbosi town in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, South East region of Nigeria. Proud Nigerian of Igbo descent. Born to fantastic parents who instilled a lot of discipline in us through the way they live and lived their lives respectively. My mother died at the age of 44 in 1991. I grew up in the old Bendel State, principally, Benin and Warri. I am the first out of nine children. I attended several primary schools. I also attended several secondary schools including St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Azia, Urhobo College Effurun and the prestigious Government College Ughelli. I am also blessed to have been privileged to attend Nigeria’s Premier

University, the Great University of Ibadan (UI) where I studied Law. I attended the Nigerian Law School between 1987/88 and was called to the bar in 1989. My parents and my uncle wanted me to work for Shell after Law school. My uncle, Capt. J.O.W. Onyema, a master marina, was the Head, Crude Oil Export Terminal, Forcados then. That meant that I was going to remain in Warri and, that, I never liked. I wanted to be free. I felt that working in Warri would still keep me under parental care and control but I wanted to be on my own. My mother was angry that I was considering a life of the unknown rather than working for Shell. But I was bent on going away. So I rebelled against my parents’ and my uncle’s decision.

I left for Lagos in 1990 in search of jobs. No money on me. I was squatting in Oshodi. I couldn’t afford taxis or buses; I was going to Lagos Island by rail. Going back to Oshodi, I would trek from Marina to Iddo to join the overcrowded trains. I wanted to practice my profession as a lawyer.

For two months, I was searching for a law firm to join to no avail. I became frustrated but came alive when the late Chief Vincent Amobi Nwizugbo gave me the opportunity to come to his chambers on Martins Street, Lagos Island to learn. He had 5 other lawyers working for him. I was very happy. At least, every morning, there would be a place I could go to, though I was not on salary. However, it was not long before he placed me on a monthly salary of N500 This he did because I surprised him by winning a high court case for the chambers; a case they had on their own regarded as a bad case for the law firm. It was my first case as a lawyer. And I was up against a SAN with three other lawyers in tow. He trusted my abilities so much that he made me head of chambers under two years. By this time, I had become big in real estate so I had to resign so as to avoid conflict of interest in my dealings. Though he didn’t want me to go, I had my way at last. I left and floated not only my own law firm but several other successful businesses. This was how it all began for me.

And Marriage?

I got married in 1993. I married a beautiful Kogi State girl from the Igala tribe. I met her in Abuja at a time I never thought of marriage. I married at the age of 27! It actually started with my late mum. One morning in 1991, just few days to my immediate younger sister’s wedding, she told me that she and my dad would want to know the girl I would like to marry when the time comes. By this time, I had met my wife in Abuja but I didn’t know her names. I thought she was Hausa because of her attire and I told myself to go after “this Hausa girl”. She agreed to come for my younger sister’s wedding on my invitation. This was the first and last time she would be seeing my mum for she died a month after the wedding of kidney failure. Her death spurred me to early marriage. I fulfilled her wish. We have four children, a girl and three boys.

What informed your going into Commercial Aviation?

I have said it on several fora and occasions that I made this decision together with my wife just to create jobs for the people. If it was about profit, I would have kept the money in the banks and be getting double digit interests on my investments. By 2008, I was receiving about 18% interest on my deposits. I was building estates from interest alone. It was during my advent 0 floating Air Peace that I scattered all my deposits for the first time since 2004! I was told, in 2007, by a friend that one commercial Boeing 737 could give jobs to over 150 persons! So I told my wife that we should do it. I made a pact with God Almighty in 2003 that I would get involved in touching lives through massive job creation and that I have done by setting up Air Peace. God has been very faithful. To me and my family. Air Peace is for the welfare of mankind and not really for us. But do not think that we want to lose our investments, far from it I am happy when I see the faces of these young ones in Air Peace who, today, could boast of a means livelihood for themselves and their families. Our staff would tell you that I treat them like equals. I have no airs over my shoulders. I encourage every wealthy person in this country to invest in the country so as to create jobs for our people instead oftaking the money abroad.

Could you please tell us about the ownership structure of Air Peace and how it was financed?

I really do not want to talk about this again but if I don’t, it would give room for more senseless talks. I named my airline Air Peace because my other companies are also Peace this and Peace that. My life is all about peace building. I made substantial amount of my God given wealth through my peace building businesses. Little did I know that I was creating problems for myself as some mischief makers started linking it with the former First Lady, Mrs. Jonathan, who goes by the nickname MAMA PEACE! I have heard that Air Peace is owned by the former First Lady of Nigeria, with me as a front! This is highly irritating. I HAVE NEVER MET PATIENCE JONATHAN OR HER HUSBAND IN MY LIFE! Besides seeing them on TV or newspapers. How could they then own my Airline? Someone wrote in the blogs that Jonathan gave me $1 billion dollars to float Air Peace. I don’t know if the aircraft in all the airlines in Nigeria put together are up to $700m talk less of $1 billion. Yet Air Peace with just 7 airplanes is then claimed to cost this much. The names of other friends like Timi Alaibe and Kingsley Kuku have also been mentioned. Some also say it is owned by Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, just because I bank with Fidelity Bank where he was once a chairman many years ago! This is just bizarre. Some have mentioned the former minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah. I have never met this woman. If all these powerful people had a hand in Air Peace, how then did it take me almost two years to get my Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from the government? I was almost frustrated out. It took Engr. Benjamin Adeyileka, the then Acting DG of NCAA to save Air Peace. He saw potentials in the emerging airline and swore that no one could stop Air Peace from coming into being. God used this man to give Nigerians the airline of the moment. If all these touted owners of Air Peace were owners, how then did our request for this license get to the point of my almost closing down the airline? People are just wicked. Some airline owners were also pointed at this libelous and slanderous campaign. One actually masterminded the publication in a blog that Stella Oduah owns the airline. As I said earlier, I brought my finances into it while getting support from the banks too. When I had gone halfway with the acquisition of my aircraft, I discovered that it was more than I thought. So I borrowed money from the banks. Fidelity Bank is there for anyone who cares to see. I pay the bank daily from sales. It is automatic. I have integrity and every bank that knows my pedigree like Fidelity would readily do business with me. I equally borrowed from Zenith but not as much as I did with Fidelity. This is how I set up my airline. For the record, I own Air Peace 100 percent.

What names do you put on all your Planes?

I named all my 7 aircrafts after my family because I love family. The executive jet has Michael on it. That’s my dad. One Domier 328 jet has Helen on it. That’s my late mum. The other Domier 328 has Ojochide on it. That’s my wife. The first four B737 have on them names of my 4 children namely; Nnenna– after my first child and daughter, Chinonso– after my first son, Obinna – after my second son and Ugochukwu – after my last son.

Recently, we acquired 2 more Boeing 737 aircraft. One has already arrived. I recently sold my two Domier 328 Jets which had my mum’s and wife’s names on them to British Airways, so I named the two new acquisitions after my wife and my mum with their full names; HELEN EKWUSI ONYEMA and ALICE OJOCHIDE ONYEMA. I am the only one without an aircraft. There are many pointers to the fact of ownership. Why should you be fronting for someone and be naming your planes after members of your family? Who would allow you do that to his investment. If this is not enough, please let the whole world go to the Corporate Affairs Commission in Abuja to search for the real legal owners of the airline. At the time of incorporating the company years ago, the original shareholders were I and my wife because the children then we’re not up to the legally required age of 18 for them to become directors and shareholders. They are being incorporated as shareholders and directors as they attain the required age.

What makes Air Peace different from the rest?

Already, we have acquired two more Boeing planes. We increased our fleet from 7 to 9 planes in less than six months. We are also going to acquire more with the help of our banks. My integrity goes before me in all of these. We are not only increasing our capacity through acquisition of more planes but also in the areas of adequate human resources. We have about 400 staff in our employ for now. Our route expansion is on course. We shal1 resume Port Harcourt operations soon. Calabar, Uyo, Kano and Yola will soon join. We have the equipment for this expansion. It is just a matter of time. We wil1 soon also start regional flight to and from African countries. The actual dates shall soon be announced to our teeming customers.

On the launch date of this airline on October 24 last year, I promised the world that we shal1 change the status quo as it regards scheduled commercial flight operations in the country. We promised to bring about positive changes in the industry. We preached peace amongst the operators. There has been this devilish animosity and rivalry amongst the airlines in igeria. We don’t want to be part of that. This is where we are different. We wish all well. Secondly, our on-time departure is second to none in Nigeria. We can compete with the best airlines in the world on timely departures. When we fail to do this, we also have the humility to explain to the customers. In extreme cases, we serve them refreshments. Why other airlines may be rostering all duty free, the particular aircraft for which we were being persecuted for was still in Texas, United States But should that have happened at all?

Nigerian Hip Hop artiste, Banji Oladapo, popularly known as Dbanj on Wednesday took a

Quote:Nigerian Hip Hop artiste, Banji Oladapo, popularly known as Dbanj on Wednesday took a swipe at music record label owners in Nigeria.

Also known as the Kokomaster, Dbanj who was one of the panelist discussing the topic, ‘Changing The Game: Artistes As Leaders’ at the 2018 Social Media Week Lagos, said music record label owners in Nigeria know nothing about the music business.

He said further that one of the challenges confronting the growth of Nigerian Music Industry is that Nigerian artistes lack capacity building.

“Most of the new generation record labels are founded by Yahoo boys. You must understand first, why are you coming into music.

“Nigerian artistes need a lot of capacity building. It is only in Nigeria that the owner of a record label doesn’t know anything about music.”

The Oliver Twist crooner also explained how he ventured into music, attributing it to the fear of poverty.

Despite hitting some people in the music industry hard, Dbanj encouraged young and upcoming artistes about building their brand.

According to him, being a brand is not a day’s job it is a daily and deliberate effort that involves evolving.

“Just like any product, you must always evolve. The fear of being poor made me think outside the box. This is one of the factors that drove me into music,” he said.

Dbanj speaking during the SMW

Also known as Eja Nla (Big Fish) by his fans, Dbanj is ready to swim in the digital space where he believes the future lies.

He called on business owners and investors to promote Nigerian music through collaborations and partnership.

Dbanj rose to prominence on the imprint of Mo’Hits record label which started in 2004, founded by Don Jazzy.

The label would grow to have a crew comprising of, in addition to Don Jazzy and D’Banj, Wande Coal, Dr. Sid, K-Switch, Ikechukwu and D’Prince.

It, however, collapsed to the annoyance of fans when Dbanj and Don Jazzy painfully split in 2012 over internal disagreements.

Dbanj later started his own record label, DB records.

Atiku Abubakar: "We Must Kill The Snake Swallowing Our Money Before It Kills Us

Former Vice President of Nigeria and potential 2019 Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar gave a speech at the 2017 Silverbird Man Of The Year Awards where he reacted to the recent news of the mysterious ‘snake’ swallowing our money.

Atiku Said; “We have to kill the snake of corruption that swallows our commonwealth meant to lift our people out of poverty. Whether the snake is in a JAMB office or any other government office, we must kill it befoe it kills us”.

A post shared by CHIEF DR DELE MOMODU (@delemomoduovation) on Feb 26, 2018 at 5:46pm PST

Meanwhile, Atiku has called out the federal government over outsourcing of projects meant to benefit Nigerians.

Atiku cited airing of the ongoing Big Brother Naija in South Africa and unveiling of Super Eagles World Cup jersey in London as some of instances in which the government had outsourced Nigeria.

The former Vice President, while speaking at Silverbird Man of the year, also condemned treatment of Nigerian elites in hospitals abroad.

He said “Our elite are treated in Europe. #BBNaija is being broadcast from South Africa and @Nike is unveiling our FIFA World Cup Jersey in London. Is this the extent to which we have outsourced Nigeria?

“The solution is to enact laws to prevent leaders from diverting public funds from the public health sector to the treatment of the elite in the best hospitals abroad.

“If you can afford it from your own private resources, then pay for it. But do not make the tax payer pay for it.

“We must accept that the difference between Nigerians is not North and South, Christian and Muslim or PDP and APC.

“The difference is between good and bad people and we must demonstrate that the good are much more than the bad, “Atiku said

Man Who Stole $56,000 From Bishop Oyedepo's Book Store Arraigned By EFCC
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 03-02-2018, 03:48 PM - No Replies

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos Zonal office yesterday, arraigned one Chimezie Chuta before Justice Mojisola Dada of the State High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.

The former employee in the publishing unit of Dominion Book Stores, an online book store belonging to The Living Faith Church Worldwide, was charged on one-count bordering on stealing to the tune of $56,000.

He allegedly hacked into the company’s mail and diverted payments for some goods bought by online customers, to his personal account.

The defendant, who was said to have been an active member of the Living Faith Church Worldwide for six years, sometime in 2013, proposed to the church to build an online digital media store that would showcase all of Bishop David Oyedepo’s books and audio messages online, to enable members of the church in the Diaspora to buy them and also receive digital copies.

Investigation revealed that the project was approved by the Church absolutely free of charge on contract basis. It was further revealed that the defendant handed over all the relevant materials to the ICT department of the church.

However, the defendant was alleged to have later gone behind to hack into the computer server of the church to perpetrate the fraudulent act. When the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

Justice Dada adjourned the case to March 7, 2018 for hearing of bail application and commencement of the trial.

Messi Should Be Banned Until Fifa Proves He Is Human" – Iran Coach Cries Out
Carlos Queiroz, the head coach of the Iran National Team, has approached the experts of FIFA to forbid the barcelona forward from football, since he is too great at it.

Portuguese Queiroz demands the Argentine performer ought to be suspended by Fifa until the point when he can demonstrate he isn't an extraterestrial!

The former Real Madrid coach recalls great how Messi broke Iranian hearts with a shocking stoppage time winner for Argentina during the group stages of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Furthermore, in front of the 2018 World Cup where Iran have been drawn alongside heavyweights Spain and Portugal, Queiroz told Fifa.com:

“I’ve always said that Messi is an extraordinary player. He’s out of this world. If he were human, he wouldn’t have had that magical moment in that match.

“I don’t usually like losing, but I didn’t come away from that defeat with a negative feeling.

“It’s when something magical like that happens that you know that football is alive and kicking. And that’s why it’s one of the best sports in the world to watch.

“And it’s even more of a special moment when it comes from a player who shouldn’t be allowed to play by FIFA until it’s proven that he’s actually human!” [Image: wink.png]

How Ghana Will be Affected by Africa’s Technological Revolution
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Gimbiya - 03-02-2018, 11:15 AM - Replies (1)

As the world continues to evolve, so too does the way we view the importance of technology. Even as recently as a decade ago, tech was something of a luxury rather than a core element of society. Things change quickly, with most people in the Western World now intrinsically linked with their smart devices and gaming units.
In places like Ghana, things are a little different. Owing largely to a lack of resources in comparison with nations in the west, most African countries are currently a couple of steps back in the technological revolution. As Internet World Stats report, just 34.7% of people in Ghana currently have access to the world wide web. Worryingly, this actually represents one of the higher percentages in Africa.
Things are changing, though. As technology becomes more accessible to all corners of the world, Ghana has been able to adapt and evolve.
Today, let’s look at how this will affect the future of the country heading forwards.

1:Better levels of education
With students in some corners of Ghana unable to attend school because of excessive distance or the need to care for sickly loved ones, improved tech can serve to bring educational enlightenment straight into their homes.
Skype is an obvious platform to mention – with the video-tech able to stream video messaging straight into someone’s home. This can be used to provide intimate one-on-one lessons to children in remote regions who don’t have the means to reach bodies of education on their own.

2:Improved cultivation in the fields
While farming is something which has been tried and tested in Ghana for generations, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room to perfect a pre-existing system. The iCow App for example, is a handy way of monitoring when your livestock needs milking, remembering dates of scheduled immunisation and learning more about how to care for your bovines.
This sort of advancement is surprisingly effective for farmers, who’re finding their job has become much simpler across the past few years as a result of these changes. Happier cows means more milk production, which can only serve to benefit the country as a whole.

3:Changed communication channels
People are growing closer together, yet paradoxically further apartment at the same time. While it used to be the norm for people to reach out via the telephone (which itself replaced face-to-face conversations), people are now beginning to favour using mobiles as a means of chatting.
Ding suggest as many as 61% of loved ones now stay in contact via means other than the telephone, with 56% of people saying WhatsApp has become their favoured form of social media. Expect this trend to continue in Ghana as time goes on.

4:Improved healthcare
Naturally, greater levels of technological advancement walk hand-in-hand with progression from a medical perspective. The more resources available to Ghanaian doctors, the higher the chances of providing a form of care which is able to treat and care for the varying types of conditions out there.
These are just some of the ways in which Ghana is going to be affected by the technological revolution sweeping the African continent. As the world continues to change, what further developments might we expect down the line? Only time will answer that question.

Man, 63, arrested for selling grandchild
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Gimbiya - 03-02-2018, 11:02 AM - No Replies

A 63-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly selling his nine-year-old grandchild for GH¢100,000 at Osu in Accra.
The man, Medaho Agbodzi, claimed he did not have money to take care of the little girl, as he was responsible for 10 more children, including his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, said the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the CID gathered intelligence that a man was offering his nine-year-old granddaughter for sale on February 22, 2018.
Immediately, she said officers from the unit mounted surveillance on Agbodzi, while he was contacted by a man who had expressed interest in the sale of the girl.
The two men negotiated the price and settled on GH¢100,000 and they agreed to meet at a location at Osu to seal the deal.
Unknown to Agbodzi, the buyer had informed the police about the transaction and they laid ambush for him.
The police arrested Agbodzi as he handed over the girl to the buyer and took possession of the money.

No money
Mrs Addo-Danquah said further information gathered by the police indicated that the victim lived with her maternal grand-aunt in the Volta Region.
The grand-aunt is said to have demanded GH¢50 from Agbodzi to enable her to buy the victim’s school uniform and other material needs.
When Agbodzi could not provide the money, the grand-aunt became angry and handed over the girl to him.
Agbodzi told the police that the girl’s father absconded when he impregnated his (Agbodzi’s) daughter.
The victim has since been sent to a shelter, while the police continue to investigate the case.
