Morning Devotional For Friday 22nd February

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

FRIDAY, 22ND FEBRUARY.

ENDLESS PROSPERITY.

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed (Genesis 12:2-3).

From the Bible, we see that even at old age, Abraham was very rich, because God blessed Him in all things. He was rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold (Genesis 13:2). The word translated, “cattle” is actually “livestock”; he had herds of cattle, sheep, goats, etc.

Then in Genesis 24:1, we yet read something beautiful about Abraham; it says, “And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.” Abraham’s life progressed from glory to glory; no downtimes. This is God’s plan for your life; upward and forward only. He doesn’t want a situation where, somewhere along the course of your life, you’ll be regarded as one who used to be rich; He’s ordained your prosperity to be for eternity.

You’re God’s just and righteous one, and the Bible says, “…the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day” (Proverbs 4:18). That’s the story and progression of the life of the one in Christ.

Thus, just because you’re retired doesn’t mean you should go broke; the Bible says, “So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham” (Galatians 3:9). You’re blessed with faithful Abraham, and of the increase of your wealth and prosperity, there shall be no end! Blessed be God!

CONFESSION

I’m an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ; the world belongs to me. I’m the seed of Abraham; therefore, I’m blessed with faithful Abraham; I’m blessed with the dew of heaven, with the fatness of the earth, and with plenty of corn and wine. My prosperity is endless.

FURTHER STUDY:

Genesis 26:12-14 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. 13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

#TALKINGSESSION

22ND FEBRUARY.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear heavenly Father, I ascribe all glory, honour, and majesty to Your great and wonderful Name! Thank you for making me a peculiar treasure, separated unto You to bring You glory! I release myself to You and declare that by the power of Your Spirit, Your purpose for my life is fulfilled, to the glory and praise of Your Name.

I walk in dominion today because Your Spirit has mantled my heart and imparted divine courage to my spirit. Nothing in this world can stop or intimidate me from fulfilling my ministry of reconciliation committed to me by God. I manifest the glory of the Kingdom everywhere I go today, in Jesus Name.

God bless you

President Muhammadu Buhari, Friday morning urged Nigerians to take part in the general elections.

He said in his national broadcast that Nigeria stands as a democracy and that no worldly hand can deter the country from this wise and fitting path.
The address reads: “While democracy is the most beneficial way to select a nation’s leaders, it is far from the easiest thing to achieve and maintain.

“It requires a combination of patience, tolerance, compassion, diligence, wisdom and hope. These traits exist in us the Nigerian people. Because of who we are, democracy has the chance to flourish in this land.
“Thus, I commend all of you for your patience and peaceful conduct so far during this electoral season and especially during this intervening week following the postponement of the February 16 elections.
“Many were worried and thought the worst might happen. You proved them wrong by showing that you are a great people with an abiding love for peace, democracy and the unity of our country.

“According to the daily INEC public briefings given this week, the Electoral Commission says it is ready and fully prepared to conduct the election in a free, fair and transparent manner.
“I believe INEC realises the profound and weighty duty that rests upon it.
“We must cast aside doubt and have faith that INEC will rise to the occasion. We must believe and encourage INEC to fulfill and honour this responsibility it owes to our country.

“As your President, I hereby ask all Nigerians with voting cards to participate in defining the future of our nation by exercising your democratic rights tomorrow. I urge you to go out and vote.
“I say this because elections are the cornerstone of representative governance. And voting constitutes the highest and best expression of the sovereign will of the people to choose the government that best represents them.
“It is only upon the freely expressed will of the people that government truly dedicated to the welfare, rights and interests of the people can be founded.

“Do not allow anyone to discourage you from the exercise of your rights as citizens and voters tomorrow.
“To vote means that you believe in Nigeria and the excellent things the future holds for this nation and its people.
“No matter our political leanings, we all believe in Nigeria, in the noble principles for which it stands and in the values we strive for our beloved nation to uphold.

“All who are able, must vote so that we may better perfect this democracy and continue to build the greater nation we seek.
“Do not be afraid of rumours of violence and unrest. Our security agencies have worked diligently to ensure that adequate security measures are in place.
“You will be able to vote in an atmosphere of openness and peace, devoid of fear from threat or intimidation.

“International and domestic monitors and observers are assured of their safety and freedom of movement needed to perform their important functions.
“As we thank domestic monitors and observers for their contributions to our democracy, we also thank the international groups for the friendship and concern they have demonstrated to our nation.
“We appreciate their efforts in encouraging us to further entrench and strengthen our democracy.
“Tomorrow is an encounter with history in which you, the people, shall affirm your collective belief in our national greatness and in our future.
“I ask that you embrace and hold on to the importance of the moment soon to be upon us.
“Honour your civic duty as voters by going to the polls tomorrow to vote for the government of your choice, for the government that will lead Nigeria toward its finest destiny.
“As citizens there is no greater duty than this and no greater honour. Tomorrow, I know you will once again make Nigeria proud of its people.
“May God bless our democracy and forever bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Dont Be Afraid Of Violence, Go Out And Vote, Buhari Tells Nigerians
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:President Muhammadu Buhari has advised Nigerians not to be afraid of violence as they perform the civic responsibility tomorrow.

Nigerians will elect their leaders in the rescheduled general election beginning on Saturday.

Mr Buhari is running for a second term in office on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

His major challenger, Atiku Abubakar, is of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The president had earlier in the week ordered security agencies to shoot-at-sight anyone found snatching ballot box.

The statement has been condemned by critics of the administration who opined that the president was installing fear on the minds of the people.

Urging the people not to be afraid, the president said security measures has been taken to ensure a free, fair and credible elections.

“Do not be afraid of rumours of violence and unrest,” Buhari told Nigerians in his National Broadcast Friday morning monitored by POLITICS TIMES.

“Our security agencies have worked diligently to ensure that adequate security measures are in place.

“As your President, I hereby ask all Nigerians with voting cards to participate in defining the future of our nation by exercising your democratic rights tomorrow. I urge you to go out and vote,” the president said.

Meanwhile, his party has said the Nigerian leader will congratulate whoever emerges winner if he is defeated at the poll.

FIRS Gets N23bn Unpaid Taxes From Corporate Firms After Accounts Suspension
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 02-22-2019, 09:11 AM - No Replies

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has generated over N23billion in unpaid taxes from the recently suspended substitution exercise on corporate bank accounts, marked by the imposition of restriction on the accounts of tax-defaulting organisations.

The Chairman of FIRS, Mr Babatunde Fowler revealed this in Lagos yesterday at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) Interactive Forum on Tax Matters. He said the focus of exercise was 3,000 frims deducting Value Added Tax (VAT) and Withholding Tax (WHT) on behalf of the Federal Government without remitting such.

He said the companies had no tax identification and therefore could not remit the deducted taxes to government, making them treat such deductions as part of their cash flow.
Fowler stated that the suspension of the exercise for 30 days, announced last weekend, was occasioned by the deluge of corporate taxpayers visiting FIRS offices to regularise their tax affairs and make payments, a situation that stretched the service administratively, as it could not lift the lien on their accounts as quickly as it wished. Thus, the FIRS directed banks to lift restrictions on such accounts to allow affected tax companies regularise their tax status within 30 days and begin to make arrangements for the liquidation of their tax liabilities.

According to the FIRS chief, the Service’s decision to restrict bank accounts of businesses, corporate organisations and partnerships with an annual banking turnover in excess of N1billion, but without tax identification, was announced at a stakeholders’ meeting last September.

Fowler said: “Our position was that if you charge VAT, which is not your money; or deduct Withholding Tax from vendors and you have no tax identification, you cannot even pay tax to the FIRS because you can’t pay without tax identification. So these operators were defrauding the society and the nation by charging consumers VAT, by deducting Withholding Tax and not remitting on behalf of other taxpayers. We had over 3,000 of such and we said if they do not come forward, we’d follow the law and do what they call substitution.

Service made some administrative errors, which made banks place restrictions on accounts of a few companies with tax identification. This, he explained, arose from wrong information from the banks. But restrictions on such, he added, were lifted within 24 hours in addition to tendering of formal apology to those impacted.

Election Postponement: Nigerians Still Counting Losses
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-22-2019, 09:10 AM - No Replies

http://nextedition.com.ng/2019/02/22/election-postponement-nigerians-still-counting-losses/

In the early hours of Saturday, February 16, 2019, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections, which had been scheduled to hold on the said date.

The announcement was made just hours before the polls were to have opened even though they had assured Nigerians and the International community that they were fully prepared for the elections.

The postponement or shift as the Chairman of the electoral body, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu called it, caused a lot of anger among many Nigerians including political parties and politicians who bitterly condemned INEC’s decision.
Indeed, different categories of people were affected in different ways even as the rescheduled elections are almost upon us.

The Voters:

A lot of people had looked forward with zeal and determination to vote and to use their voices through their voters’ card on February 16. Nigerians within and outside the shores of the land counted down to the day and made preparations towards it.

Many went through a lot of trouble to register and collect their Permanent Voter’s card, in order to be able to vote.

A lot of voters travelled long distances from outside Nigeria just to be present at their polling units in order for them to participate in the voting process. Some voters abandoned their businesses and travelled all the way to their polling units to sleep overnight so as to cast their votes the next morning.

Well, as we all know, things didn’t go as planned and this left many voters frustrated, their zeal and enthusiasm dampened and their frustration is well understood.

For those who travelled outside their bases, they were left with limited options and none too pleasant and all expensive. For instance; one option was to return to their bases and travel back for the elections, which of course, will mean incurring extra costs or to extend their stay at their polling locations, which still means extra cost.

But the most expensive option would be returning to base and not being able to make the journey back to polling location, thereby missing the opportunity to vote.

After all the efforts and hope to be part of deciding the country’s future, what a devastating blow that was, no thanks to INEC.

Scheduled Events:

In Nigeria, people literally have an event every Saturday. However, due to the scheduled election, so many people had shifted their events including weddings, burials and other important events to the next Saturday which now happens to be the new date for the elections.

What this therefore means for such people, is another postponement of their events and most probably some financial loses.

The social media has been replete with complaints from many Nigerians who had been so affected, but is anybody listening to their pain?

Students:

Nigerian pupils and students starting from the primary school level to the university level are all affected by the election postponement. Some primary and secondary schools declared holidays due to the elections and will be forced to declare another holiday to accommodate the new development.

The university students just recently resumed school after three months of ASUU strike. They haven’t resumed lectures yet due to the elections and now will have to extend one more week before they resume.

Some universities are yet to commence academic activities despite the strike being called off with the expectation the lectures would resume after the presidential elections.

Media Houses:

A lot of Nigerian and foreign media houses sent out their reporters to different areas across the country to cover the voting process.

The postponement meant extra costs to either bring them back to base or keep them out of station till the elections of February 23 are done with. Either way, it is a lot of cost.

Local and Foreign Observers:

This includes Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and foreign observers who deployed hundreds of personnel across the country to observe and monitor the elections.

The listed organisations spent lots of money to prepare to cover the voting process. Getting their personnel to be at the polling units this weekend means more money spent. Yet, they have to do monitor and observe.

The Business People:

There are people who closed their businesses due to the “no movement” law on election days. How much money did they lose? A whole lot and they will still lose again this weekend.

There are also people who had made lots of snacks to sell at the polling units. Well, that was definitely a waste for them. Would they ever recover their money?

It is everybody’s fervent prayer and hope that the elections will hold tomorrow, February 23. The only thing that can begin to make up for the frustrations and losses is if the powers that be allow the process to be free, and fair. The will of the people must count.

It is also important that all eligible voters go out and vote. This is equally another way to cushion the losses.

I Didn’t Order Disruption Of Fg’s Tradermoni –Gov Amosun
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-22-2019, 06:56 AM - No Replies

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, said he never ordered anybody to disrupt the Federal Government’s social security scheme, also known as Tradermoni, in the state.

Amosun, who said he got information, on Tuesday, that some politicians and suspected hoodlums had stormed the popular Lafenwa Market, in Abeokuta, the state capital, and demanded the traders’ permanent voter cards (PVCs) in return for money, said the programme was not Tradermoni, but a ploy to induce the electorate ahead of tomorrow’s election.

Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs were reported to have stormed the venue of the federal government’s Tradermoni scheme at the market, on Tuesday, and disrupted the empowerment programme.

But the governor, speaking with newsmen, yesterday, insisted that the programme was not federal government’s empowerment programme.

He said ‘TraderMoni’ is a structured programme that does not request beneficiaries’ PVC numbers and details.

He argued that as a governor, he cannot sit idly and allow disservice to be done to the lofty idea of President Muhammadu Buhari, allegeing that some politicians were behind the “fake Tradermoni programme” to con voters few days to election.

“Yesterday, you read in the papers that Ogun state governor, Amosun disrupted Tradermoni. Tradermoni is not just done by putting pen to paper.

“Some hoodlums just went there, let me use that English, they called us from the market that some people came o, to say they should bring their PVCs, bring their names, bring their numbers.

“Of course, I know the vice president handles Tradermoni; that’s not how it is done. It is a structured programme.

“Not two days to elections, some people would just carry one paper, give them exercise book, bring your PVC, write your name.

“How can I sit down as a governor and allow that to happen? They called that some people came and asked them to bring their PVCs.

“And I said don’t worry, come and see me. When they came, they told us what was happening, that some people phoned them to bring their PVCs, that they should be writing their names and phone numbers.

“That is not Tradermoni; that would be a disservice to the lofty ideals of why Tradermoni was put together.

Ahead of Saturday's Presidential Election, a pro-democracy group, Democracy Coalition has advised Nigerians to reject the hardship, poverty, pains and ethnic jingoism which President Muhammadu Buhari represents in the coming election.

The group which described Alhaji Atiku as credible alternative to President Buhari urged Nigerians to vote for Atiku for better Nigeria which everyone yearned for.

The group however urged INEC to remain neutral and avoid the temptation of being used to thwart the votes of Nigerians for Atiku as only Atiku can get Nigeria working again.

Signed

Landlord Denies Raping 14-year -old, Says N1,000 Was Christmas Gift
Friday, February 22, 2019  NEW

A Lagos-based landlord, James Onuoha, who was accused of raping his tenant’s 14-year-old niece, has denied the allegation, but said that the N1,000 he gave her was a Christmas gift.

Onuoha is standing trial before a Lagos State High Court in Igbosere on four counts bordering on defilement.

The prosecutor, Jide Martins, had told the court that Onuoha wilfully had an unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent.

He said the offences contravened sections 134 (2), 135 (1), 137 and 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

Martins had called several witnesses, including the victim, to prove his case.

At Thursday’s proceedings, Onuoha, while being led in evidence by his counsel, Victor Olowonla, explained to the court how he visited his house at No. 25 Samuel Amoore Street, Idowu Estate, Oke-Ira Nla, Ajah, Lagos, on January 4, 2016, to inspect the premises and meet his tenant, Kenneth, who he said owed him two years’ rent.

He stated, “I called Kenneth on several occasions but he did not answer his calls; I decided to visit him at home but when I got there, Kenneth was not there.

“I knocked on the door to Kenneth’s apartment, a young girl came out and said Kenneth was not around. I asked the girl her age, she said she was 16 years old and she granted me access to the apartment so that I could carry out an inspection.

“In the past, Kenneth used to hide from me, so I thought he was hiding. I got into the apartment for inspection; I did not touch her (the girl); it was during the Christmas period and that was why I gave her N1,000 as a gift.

“Two days after my visit to the house, I got a telephone call from my office that my tenant (Kenneth) had reported that I raped a girl.

“I was also called by the police from the Lamgbasa Police Station and the case was transferred to the Zone 2 Police Command.”

Onuoha, during cross-examination by the state counsel, admitted that he did not inform the tenant before visiting the house.

He added that he never knew that the victim just came to Lagos to stay with her uncle at the time of the incident.

The presiding judge, Justice Adedayo Akintoye, adjourned the case till March 28, for the continuation of hearing.

The prosecutor had earlier told the court that Onuoha allegedly committed the offences on January 4, 2016, around 11.30am at No. 25 Samuel Amoore Street, Idowu Estate, Oke-Ira Nla, Ajah, Lagos.

Bandits Sack 10 Katsina Communities, Displace 2,000 Residents
Friday, February 22, 2019  NEW

Barely 48 hours to the Saturday’s rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections, bandits have sacked 10 communities, forcing over 2,000 residents to relocate from their ancestral homes in Batsari Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.

The affected communities are Tudun Garin-Yara, Kwandatso, Garin Labo, Shigi, Sabon-Garin Dunburan, Garin Dodo, Inwala, Madattai, Sabon-Garin Shigi and Kasai.

Our correspondent who visited Batsari Modern Primary School where the victims, mostly women and children, were relocated, gathered that the crisis started last Sunday in Kasai community but later spread to other nine villages between Monday and Wednesday, rendering thousands of residents homeless.

The attack, which claimed seven lives, including an army captain, also led to the abduction of many women and children who were declared missing after the invasion.

One of the victims, Inatu Labo who could not control her tears while speaking to THISDAY at the camp, said: “We were asleep when the well-armed bandits numbering about hundreds attacked us. They killed some of our villagers and went away with our animals.”

Conducting THISDAY round the 12 classrooms occupied by the displaced persons, the Council Director of Education and Social Services, Kabir Abba Umar, said government had provided some palliatives in form of food items and sleeping materials to the displaced people.

“We have activated the temporary camps with profiling of the affected persons, and health personnel have been deployed to the camp. The local government has provided water tank, mats, blankets and buckets.

“As of yesterday, we registered more than 2,000 Internally Displayed Persons (IDPs) in this temporary camp and more are trooping in today. The displaced persons trek from their ancestral homes, which are about 10 to 15 kilometres away from Batsari.

“The local government area has also directed that provision of other requirements for camp operation should be giving to the displaced persons immediately”, he explained.

The last invasion by the bandits was coming barely one week after Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s visit to Kasai, a community where the attack was prominent, and called for harmonious co-existence among the residents.

Meanwhile, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Jibril Ibrahim Zarewa, has also confirmed that the issue of insecurity in some parts of the state has escalated as a result of “spill-over” of the crisis in neighbouring Kaduna and Zamfara States.

“In all, we have concerns in nine LGAs namely, Jibia, Batsari, Kurfi, Safana, Kankara, Faskari, Dandume, Danmusa, and Sabuwa. The predominant problems are kidnapping, cattle rustling and robbery.

“The wards and number of polling units affected have been identified. Elections require peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. A concrete approach has therefore, become necessary in order to ensure peaceful and hitch-free election, and we believe that the security agencies are on top of the situation”, Zarewa said.

Briefing journalists yesterday ahead of the Saturday’s polls, the state Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, said the command has made adequate security provision to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens in the nine frontline LGAs of the state.

“There will be total restriction of movement of persons and vehicles from 6.00 a.m – 6 a.m on Saturday, February 16, 2019. No movement will be allowed until the elections are over,” he added.

The state police chief, said the police and other security personnel will be conducting robust patrols to ensure compliance of the orders.

He said: “This is to checkmate the menace of those who may use that day to move around with dangerous weapons or carry thugs from one place to another. We have arranged adequately to handle this kind of situation with decisive professional skills.

“As a matter of fact, we have been having series of activities by night Marauders and cattle rustlers around that Batsari axis. In fact, I directed that armoured personnel vehicles should be redeployed to Batsari and Safana so that the activities of these hoodlums who are frightening people in the areas would be checkmated.

He added that the command was not aware of the setting up of any IDPs camp in the state but confirmed that there have being series of activities by “night marauders” and cattle rustlers around that Batsari axis.

International Operations: NDLEA charges Air Peace crew to assist them in curtailing drug trafficking

NATIONAL Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has charged Air Peace crew to consider their role in exposing drug couriers as a part of efforts to ensure that they save the lives of these peddlers and help change the battered image caused by the numerous arrests that have been made in the past.

Speaking during an eight-day training for Air Peace cabin crew members, which opened at the weekend in Lagos, the agency warned that those involved in drug peddling risked killing themselves or being executed if caught in some countries of the world with harsh anti-drug laws.

The training is part of the sensitisation programme for the carrier’s crew in preparation for the airline’s international flight operations billed to launch soon.

Air Peace plans to fly to Dubai, Sharjah, London, Houston, Johannesburg, Guangzhou-China, Mumbai, among other international destinations. The carrier recently operated demonstration flights to Port Harcourt, Kano, Freetown, Dakar, Johannesburg and Sharjah as part of the requirements for induction of the Boeing 777 aircraft it plans to deploy for its long-haul services.

Air Peace Cabin Services Manager, Florence Opia, Corporate Communications Manager, Mr. Chris Iwarah and Chief Security Officer, Mr. Monsuru Akinbola had recently paid a visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of the NDLEA to share ideas on proactive options to prevent drug couriers from attempting to peddle drugs using the airline’s international flights.

Speaking at the training, NDLEA’s three-man team comprising Principal Staff Officer (Administration and Logistics), Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, Mr. Abbas Abdullahi, Target and Intelligence Analyst, Mr. Akan Francis Inam and Staff Officer (Evidence Collection/Exhibit Keeping), Mr. Okwunjor Edache said drug couriers were daily devising new means of beating the system.

The team, however, said the anti-drug agency was always a step ahead of the drug peddlers, who were frequently being exposed by NDLEA operatives.
They urged Air Peace crew to be calm and cautious in observing passengers, saying drug couriers always left a trail.

The NDLEA operatives warned the airline’s crew not to trust anyone and desist from making assumptions, saying drug peddlers could put up deceptive appearance to escape being exposed.

The NDLEA team urged Air Peace crew to assist the agency in checking drug peddling to protect Nigeria’s image and save its citizens from being executed in some countries with tough anti-drug laws

Diamond-Access Bank: A new dawn for investors, shareholders

A sound and competent banking sector is essential for a stable macroeconomic environment, therefore, the importance of commercial banks in a country cannot be overemphasized. This is because they occupy key positions in a country’s financial system and are essential agents that would lead to the growth of any economy.

They also provide the bulk of money supply as well as the primary means of facilitating the flow of credit and so it is submitted that the economic well-being of a nation is a function of advancement and development of her banking industry.

As a result, the banking sector in Africa especially Nigeria has improved significantly due to impact of globalization in terms of technology, regulations and structure.

In achieving enhancement of capacity to support growth in the real sector, there is ample evidence that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) relied heavily on bank capital reforms in tackling problems of under-performance in the sector.

Implementation of these reforms has often led to strategies which include merger and acquisitions –the two common strategies adopted in the implementation of consolidation programmes.
According to Investopedia, Mergers and Acquisitions have been shown to promote synergy in business operations as the performance of the emerging organization is often better than the sum of individual performances prior to the consolidation.

Hence, the fusion of two or more banks into a unified entity is expected to promote operational performance through improved competition, exploitation of economies of scale, facilitation of adoption of advanced technologies and higher level of operational efficiency.

Ultimately, the goal is to strengthen the intermediation role of banks and to ensure that they are able to perform their traditional role of enhancing economic growth as well as increasing customer base alongside palatable product offerings. This clearly influences the ongoing corporate marriage between Access Bank Plc and Diamond Bank Plc.
The deal which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2019, is set to birth over 29 million customers which is basically the largest customer base of any bank in the continent which might constitute about 600 branches, about 33,000 Point of Sale (POS) terminals as well as 13 million mobile customers.

Also, the two banks is set to have the largest alternative network channels even as both financial institutions can now use their combined total of 3,100 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
Following the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and announcement of headline terms, which valued Diamond Bank at approximately N72.5 billion (about $200 million), will see Diamond Bank shareholders receive N3.13 per share in cash and shares.

This means that Diamond Bank shareholders would receive a consideration of N3.13 per share, comprising N1 per share in cash and the allotment of two New Access Bank ordinary shares for every seven Diamond Bank ordinary shares held as at the Implementation Date.

Group Managing Director, Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, noted that the combination of the two businesses will create the largest retail bank in Africa by customer base and a very significant player in the Nigerian market while adding that this represents a huge step towards the delivery of the bank’s goal to bring the power of banking to millions of people across Nigeria and an exciting transaction for Access Bank and Diamond Bank’s customers, staff and shareholders.

Corroborating him, Chief Executive Officer, Diamond Bank Plc, Uzoma Dozie, said that the merger is positive for all of Diamond Bank stakeholders, including customers, employees and shareholders adding that customers will benefit significantly through the unrivalled combination of the best of Diamond Bank’s retail and digital leadership with the size of Access Bank’s balance sheet, corporate names and geographical reach.

“Customers are at the heart of our decision to create one of Nigeria’s leading banks. The combination of Access Bank and Diamond Bank will result in real benefits. The products and services that Diamond Bank’s clients enjoy, including its commitment to digital innovation, will continue unchanged and will be backed by Access Bank’s own commitment to customers, financial inclusion and sustainability, and the bank’s corporate expertise and strong balance sheet.”, Dozie said.

With the deal in place, the investing community remains skeptical as they await the outcome of the merger even as customers of both banks are worried about longevity of product offerings afforded to them.

For instance, Former President, Noble Shareholders Association, Sir Timothy Adesiyan, said, “Instead of CBN throwing all our shares into the lagoon, at least we are going to have in exchange, Access bank shares and we appreciate it rather than having nothing”

National Chairman, Progressive Shareholders Association of Nigeria (PSAN), Boniface Okezie, called for calm amongst the investing community.

Okezie said, “If Diamond bank is operating 200 branches, considering the merger, Access bank will be a mega bank. I do not think there is any reason to panic as Access Bank is not new to the terrain, they know what they are doing and they must have done their homework to find out whether after the whole merger thing is done, they will still remain solid.
Also speaking, Head, Retail Banking, Diamond Bank Plc, Robert Giles while assuring Nigerians that the merger between Diamond and Access bank will bring the best of strong core print in treasury platform as well as the best of retail banking, noted that uique products such as Diamond Xtra, Xclusive Plus, High Interest Deposit Account (HIDA), Diamond Business Advantage (DBA) and Diamond Beta will remain even after the merger is completed.

Osinbajo’s Convoy Attacked In Ilorin, Kwara
User Avatar Forum: News

Quote:Political thugs suspected to have sympathies for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday allegedly attacked the convoy of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The attack is said to have culminated in life-threatening gunshots, which left at least two supporters of the APC injured.

Many others allegedly got seriously injured while running for their lives.

But a police source revealed the incident, which happened around Isale-Koko, Ilorin suburb, occurred when the Vice President’s convoy had left the area.

When contacted, spokesperson of the state police command Ajayi Okasanmi could not confirm the incident.

Reacting on the development APC governorship candidate in the state Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq condemned “the brazen attack today in Ilorin on the convoy of the Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo by armed PDP thugs.”

In a statement by his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye, Abdulrazaq said: “The vice president was at Isale Aluko suburb of Ilorin on a door-to-door campaign when some dare-devil gunmen opened fire at his convoy which included thousands of APC members and supporters.

“In what is a reminiscence of the Offa robbery, this attack is the height of recklessness on the part of these street urchins who have long been empowered and armed by the discredited dynasty to terrorise our community and anyone who has contrary views to their amala politics.

“Coming just a day after two of our supporters were killed in Ojoku in the convoy of our senatorial candidate Architect Lola Ashiru, this is becoming too much and the madness must stop.

“Going into an election with these thugs clearly on the loose is an existential threat not just to all of us challenging the misrule in our state but to the entire people of the state and their properties.

“We call for immediate arrest and prosecution of these thugs. We also demand investigations to reveal those who gave the orders for these deadly attacks.

“We call for all measures to be taken to ensure safety of lives and properties and sanctity of the ballot box in Kwara and beyond.

“No one’s political interest should be at the expense of human lives and their properties.

“We insist that a political contest is a contest of ideas and no one must be allowed to cow or kill others in the process.”

Kill A Python, Go To Jail, Zoo Manager Warn Nigerians

The Manager of Imo State Zoological Garden, Dr Francis Abioye, has cautioned Nigerians against killing protected animals including reptiles like python, saying doing so would attract jail term.

Abioye gave the warning on Thursday when he mobilised members of the zoo task force to arrest a resident of Nekede autonomous community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo, accused of killing a python.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspect, Mike Uzoma, allegedly killed the python and sold it on Wednesday.

The area where the python was killed is less than a kilometer away from the zoo.

However by the time the task force members got the community to effect the arrest, the suspect had fled.

The manager who addressed members of the community cautioned them against such act, explaining that all animals around the conservation area are protected by law.

Abioye warned that anybody who kills a python or any animal protected by the law will be arrested and prosecuted.

“I have come to educate all of you against the habit of killing animals that are protected by the law.

“Anybody caught killing such animal must be jailed because we cannot continue to watch people destroy our nature out of ignorance”, he said.

Abioye said rather than kill such animals, the residents should contact the zoo curator to capture them.

Some of the residents, who spoke, commended the manager for coming to educate them on why some special animals must be protected.

One of them, Mrs Angela Amaefula said she was ignorant of the law prohibiting the killing of some animals like python, and urged the zoo manager to make such enlightenment programme a regular event.

According to her, doing so would enable members of the public to become fully aware of the need to be friendly with such animals. (NAN)

Police confirm the killing of six farmers In Zamfara State

The Zamfara State police command has confirmed the attack on Danjibga community in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state where six farmers were said to have been killed by suspected bandits.

Danjibga is located 35 kilometers south of the state capital, Gusau, and has witnessed repeated attacks by bandits in recent times. The spokesperson of the command, Muhammad Shehu, said he could not confirm media reports of the recovery of 59 corpses of suspected bandits said to have been killed during in a gun battle with operatives of the Operation Sharen Daji.

He said, “The Divisional Police Officer attached to Tsafe Local Government has confirmed to the command that six farmers were found dead shortly after the attack.  “But on the other 59 suspected bandits, I can’t confirm to you that we recovered their bodies because it is a joint operation.” AFP had reported that at least 59 “bandits” were killed by a civilian task force when they attacked a village in the state.

“We killed 59 of the bandits and we lost seven men in the fight, which lasted for almost four hours,” Bube Shehu, a resident of Danjibga village, had told AFP. Local reports said the death toll could be even higher after a local government official said 15 other bandits were killed in the nearby village of Danmarke.

Shehu’s account was backed by a military officer in the state but there was no immediate corroboration from police.  The villagers were said to have been frustrated at the lack of protection from security forces and had been forced to take matters into their own hands.

According to multiple reports, the convoy of a former governor of Kano State and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has been attacked in Kofa village in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.

It was gathered that an unspecified number of party supporters from both camps died, while several others sustained various degrees of injury.

Mr Kwankwaso had planned his final rally alongside the PDP governorship candidate, Abba Yusuf, to be held at Kiru and Bebeji on Thursday but the long motorcade of the party leader was denied passage through Kofa village.

It was scooped that the clash occurred when thugs allegedly loyal to a member representing Kiru/Bebeji Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin, barricaded the road, resulting in bloody clash.

Kajuru Killings: Police Disown Casualty Figures Announced By El-rufai
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 02-21-2019, 11:00 PM - No Replies

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdurrahman, has disowned both figures announced by Governor Nasir El-Rufai as casualties in Gidan Maro an Iri axis of Kajuru Local Government of Kaduna State.

Mr Abdurrahman said the police are still investigating and won’t quote or confirm any figure until their probe is concluded.

At first announcement on February 15, Mr El-Rufai said 66 people were killed by “criminal elements” in various dispersed hamlets in Kajuru Local Government. The army also confirmed the 66 deaths.

In another announcement after an extensive meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and service chiefs on February 19, the governor said the death toll had risen to 130.

Mr El-Rufai’s first and second claims were followed by criticisms by some people who raised doubts about the figures.

One of such criticisms came from the senator representing the district. “What I found out about the killing is that it happened between Sunday and Monday. The figures for the death are within the range of 10 to 15. The state government exaggerated the figures and also timed the announcement of it in view of the fact that that place is remote and beyond the reach of many journalists,” Shehu Sani said.

PREMIUM TIMES journalist visited the scene of the killings on Wednesday and on Thursday sought clarifications from the commissioner.

Mr Abdurrahman neither confirmed nor denied the governor’s figures but said the police had no hand in arriving at them.

“Right now, if the governor tells you even 200, he is just quoting figures. It may be more than that or less than that. For example, the areas you have visited where we were told that 36 bodies were buried, It was not under the purview of the security at the beginning of the investigation until when the Fulani victims themselves came out crying after we have secured all the places with our military counterpart. They now approach the military that come and escort us to come and bury our relations. That was when it was uncovered.”

The police chief said his men were still investigating the issue and would not identify with any figure until this is concluded.

“As I told the governor himself, I said figures in a crisis of this magnitude should be left until all investigations have been finished. All those areas we are getting information are covered. You cannot come up with a figure. You will come and say a figure and later you have to come and say it again. And this is what is happening As far as police is concerned we are investigating and investigation is still at embryonic stage. By the time we reach all areas…as I’m talking to you now, my men are still in the bush, plus SEMA and other CSOs.

“That’s why professionally, we don’t come out with figures until when we are sure and concluded our investigation. So, you see that there is no reason to say this one said this figure or that one said this figure,” he said.

Mr Abdurrahman said the troubled communities are now in a post-crisis period warning that ‘nobody should stampede investigation.’

‘Ogun Will Kill Anyone Forcing Me To Help Baba Suwe’ – Actress Liz Anjorin

Nollywood top actress, Liz Anjorin, has slammed those reportedly ‘forcing’ her to help ailing actor and producer, Babatunde Omidina, better known as Baba Suwe.

According to her, “Ogun will kill” them if they want to make it compulsory for her to help anyone in the movie industry.

DAILY POST reports that many Nollywood celebrities have been mobilising funds for Baba Suwe’s medical treatment for an undisclosed illness in the United States of America.

Consequently, a fan called Liz’s attention to it as well on Instagram.

She reacted in a manner that portrays anger, saying no celebrity came to her aide when her mother was down with stroke for years before she finally passed on.

The actress wrote: “You came to my page to be insulting and cursing me because of INDUSTRY issue?

“My mother deserve my kindness but the hate in the INDUSTRY and others sent her to early grave. They did not allow her to eat the fruit of her labour.

“My mother battled stroke for good four years; I was in the court with a thief that stole my car all alone at this same time. What did my colleagues do to help me?

“They helped to spread bad rumours. If you come to my page to drop any hate speech, I pray this same thing happen to you and you will never come out of it.

“How many of them (colleagues) featured me in their movie or adopted me? Despite my generosity.

“When my beloved mother died none of the artiste came except Lepa Shandy and Madam Asewo Toremecca. The headline written by a journalist “COLLEAGUES SHUN LIZ ANJORIN MOTHER’S BURIAL” still linger in my brain.

“Remember I can laugh with you but I will never betray my mother to mingle with some of you.
How many of my event do they attend to support me as a family? Not just family. Ask them all how humble and generous is Liz Anjorin?

“Do you all remember 2017? ‘Owo Nairabet” premiere is a good example when Saidi Balogun and others ganged against me.

“If you come to my page to tell me who to assist Ogun will kill you and you die just like my mother.”

Pro-Buhari Hackers Target and Shut down Atiku on-line platforms – TAAP Alleges

Pro-Buhari Hackers Target and Shut down Atiku on-line platforms – TAAP Alleges
Thursday, February 21, 2019 politics

Pro - Buhari hackers have succeeded in shutting down on-line Atiku Abubakar support groups, Web sites and social media infrastructure, report alleges.

These findings were supported by the interim report of an internal audit carried out by The Atiku Advancement Project, an umbrella social media movement, comprising over 10,000 pro-PDP, pro-Atiku youth groups in the South-south geo-political zone.

In the audit report, cyber security audit firm FireEye wrote that malware used in the attack appears to be specifically designed to flood servers with vast amounts of spam, and bogus registration queries, the aim of the attacks was to overwhelm server capacity, ultimately forcing a system crash under the avalanche of useless data.

A statement released to journalists in Abuja today by Barrister Soalabo W. West is the National Coordinator of The Atiku Advancement Project (TAAP) alleged that concerted efforts were sponsored by pro-Buhari hackers to falsely and dubiously flag and report sites identified as belonging to perceived political opponents, to hosting authorities, to cause damage or at the very least a disruption in service provision, adding that hackers first took control of some social media accounts affiliated to The Atiku Advancement Project in November 2018 prompting the Management Team to initiate an internal investigation.

According to him, “alerts were subsequently issued by several other pro-Atiku, pro- PDP groups warning of cyber attacks on critical infrastructure sites. This paints a very dark picture as most system administrators don’t even get to know about unauthorized access until operations are disrupted.”

With the cyberspace now being ground zero for the political wars of the future and if history is a prologue, more hackers will now start looking into the possibilities of compromising the social media infrastructure of perceived opponents. “This is a watershed moment,” said Helen Udekwu, Jr, the overseas co-chair and head of threat intelligence at The Atiku Advancement Project, She added that, “Others will eventually catch up and try to copy this kind of attack.” she opined.

The audit committee chaired by the Executive Director of TAAP Atiku Campaign, Mr. Mark A. Upaa, resolved to leave no stone unturned in the exposure of the miscreants responsible for the dastardly cyber attacks, vowing that at the conclusion of the investigation all details of the cyber attacks will be made available.

“We are awaiting the response from FaceBook as well as some of our other service providers”, “this will give us a clearer picture as well as enable us mount a vigorous defense against such vicious attacks next time.”

Helen Udekwu, also added, these move of the hackers on the APC media team can be likened to a ‘drowning man clutching at straw’
“The online Buharists have read the writing on the wall and they are panicking. The APC has been measured on the scale of equity and found wanting, they will surely be voted out on Saturday, during free and fair, non-violent elections.” Helen asserted,

Cousins reveal they're in love and having sex and some of the comments from followers are shocking

A couple have shocked Twitter users after they revealed they are in a relationship even though they are first cousins and they want to put an end to the stigma surrounding incest.

The couple tweeted several photos of themselves, including one of them kissing and another where they were smoking blunt, and they revealed they've been in love since they were kids but had to hide their relationship because their mothers are blood sisters.

Sharing a photo taken with her cousin, @Lilmarche tweeted:

Quote:I remember growing up, we had to hide our love from our family. Sleepovers was too lit ? now we grown and we don’t gotta hide. Blood can’t make us any closer but I’m so glad I fell in love with my cousin ????‍???

In another tweet, she wrote:

A third tweet reads:

Quote:I shouldn't be limited to who I love because we're related.

She adds:

The lady added that she and her cousin are sexually active. When followers expressed concern that their kids will be inbred and will likely have genetic maladies, she said she doesn't care because she is on birth control.
What's shocking in all of these is that a number of Twitter users declared support for their love and confessed they are also having sexual relationships with their cousins.

A great number of Twitter users called the couple out for their actions. But the young lady was unbothered and replied to every critic with strong words of her own.

Nigeria Must Kill NNPC - El-rufai
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 02-21-2019, 01:22 PM - No Replies

Quote:The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el Rufai, has said Nigeria must do away with its “corrupt” oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, or stand the risk of itself being destroyed.

“If you don’t kill the NNPC, it will kill Nigeria,” Mr. el-Rufai said Monday at the 7th Wole Soyinka Centre Media Lecture Series in Abuja, where he was a guest speaker.

Mr. El-Rufai said the NNPC has become so entrenched in corruption that the only way out for Nigeria is not to attempt to salvage the corporation, but to destroy it and create a new oil company. He said he hoped President Muhammadu Buhari will implement that proposal.

The governor said as a former director general of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, he was confident a messy organisation could be disbanded and turned into a useful one.

He said NNPC has become so corrupt and arrogant that it runs a parallel government and unilaterally decides what it remits to a nation of 170 million people, while its hundreds of employees feed fat on Nigeria’s resources.

In the last three years, Mr. el-Rufai said the NNPC retained 42 per cent of Nigeria’s money, and remitted only 58 per cent.“About N971bn was budgeted for subsidy payments in 2014 alone (more than twice that was eventually paid). You all recall how trillions of naira were paid out as oil subsidy in 2011, when only N254bn was appropriated. No one has been successfully prosecuted for this scam. Huge deficits in gas supply have ensured that the country’s thermal plants cannot produce power at optimal levels,” he said.

“The long and short of the situation of our oil industry is best exemplified by the parallel government called the NNPC. In 2012, it sold N2.77tn of ‘domestic’ crude oil but paid only N1.66tn to the Federation Account. In 2013, it earned N2.66tn but paid N1.56tn to FAAC; in 2014, (it earned) N2.64tn, but remitted N1.44tn; while between January and May 2015, it earned N733.36bn and remitted only N473.2bn.

“That means that the NNPC only remitted about 58 per cent of the monies earned between 2012 and the first half of 2015. A company with the audacity to retain 42 per cent of a country’s money has become a veritable parallel republic!”

He said the examples he gave were only with respect to domestic crude oil sale. “Similar leakages exist in the NPDC, NAPIMS procurement and subsidiary budgets,” he said.

“The NNPC feels entitled to consume more resources than the 36 states, the FCT & Federal Government combined. How could a country so dependent on oil revenues have been so lax about the proper gover-
nance, efficiency and security of its oil industry?” he lamented.

He identified the need to remove the undue premium on public ownership and control of every major oil asset, while checking the impact of corruption and distortion of oil subsidy on the country’s economy, and restructuring of the NNPC in the national interest.

To realise the potentials of the oil industry, he said the government must not only define exactly what the country wants the oil industry to be and to achieve, but also the structure that would best deliver it.

“An efficient and productive oil sector, able to create jobs, spur industrialization and earn more revenues requires that we tackle the monster that the NNPC has become,” he said. “We should replace the NNPC with brand new organizations that are fit for purpose – a commercialized and corporatized national oil company and new industry regulators.

He said the new national oil company should be capitalized once and for all, and then freed to fend for itself like other national oil companies, by seeking its financing independently from the financial markets and paying due taxes and royalties.

“An efficient and productive oil sector, able to create jobs, spur industrialisation and earn more revenues, requires that we tackle the monster that the NNPC has become.

This country can no longer afford to maintain an NNPC that arrogantly, unlawfully & unconstitutionally spends an unhealthy proportion of national oil earnings on itself,” he said.

“We should replace the NNPC with brand new organisations that are fit for purpose, among others, a commercialised & corporatised national oil company, and new industry regulators. This new national oil company should be capitalised once and for all, and then freed to fend for itself like other national oil companies do, seeking its financing independently from the financial markets and paying due taxes and royalties.

He said no one qualified more to appreciate the rot in the NNPC, and to deal with the menace, than President Buhari who was the pioneer head of the NNPC in 1977.“No one can appreciate the gap between the vision of the NNPC’s founding fathers, the beautiful baby of 1977 and the 38 year-old monster it has become better than President Buhari.

The NNPC of today must make Chief Sunday Awoniyi of blessed memory squirm in his grave. Something fundamentally decisive must be done to tame this monster,” Mr. el-Rufai said.

Mr. el-Rufai lamented the irony of about 70 million, or 40% of Nigeria’s total population, currently living below the poverty line, despite the country’s earning of at least $1trillion from oil in the last 50 years.

“For our vast masses, oil is no fortune,” Mr. El Rufai said. “It is more of a mirage, but a more insidious kind, because the fortune is visible in the lifestyles of a few thousands of the privileged elite, but is stubbornly inaccessible to tens of millions of ordinary people.

“Our rich enjoy the lifestyles of the richest in the world, while our poor are truly the wretched of the earth. This inequality is most unfortunate.”

To avoid sinking deeper into poverty, Mr. El-Rufai said the country must resolve to spend wiser, and do more with less by changing its big appetite to consume rather than save; import, rather than produce domestically, or neglect to prioritize capital investments.

The major responsibility of a democratic government, he said, was to ensure that people were moved away from pain of extreme poverty, by managing the country’s resources in a way that would sustain building the people, through diligent revenue collection and cost-effective and resulted –oriented application.

JUST IN: Drama As Kano-bound Sensitive Election Materials Arrive Oyo

By ANDREW ESSIEN - 6 hours ago
[Image: sensitive-election-materials-.jpg?fit=592%2C400&ssl=1]

Form EC8B of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) meant for Kano State, surprisingly found its way to Oyo State capital, thus creating a mild drama on Wednesday at the Central Bank of Nigeria branch in Dugbe, Ibadan.

The election material, which is one of the sensitive election materials, is the result sheet for a particular ward within a state.
PUNCH reports that it observed that at the CBN premises around 5.30pm, while sorting of the materials was ongoing, a group of INEC officials, including ad hoc ones, suddenly raised an alarm.

“Eh! For Kano… Noted,” they exclaimed, as a woman raised up the form.
One of them subsequently took the form to a superior INEC official, who documented it in a register.

When asked how the discovery would be handled, a senior official of the Commission supervising the sorting said “We will give it to the CBN to return it to Kano State as soon as possible,” the official, who did not disclose his name, said.
Asked if there were other discoveries of such, he said, “For now, that is the only one we have found.”

The official added that the sensitive materials would be dispatched to different local government areas of the state as soon as the sorting ends.
Efforts to get the comment of the INEC Head of Publicity in the state, Mr. Olayiwola Arowolo, on the development proved abortive as calls made to his line were not answered.

, which held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was to interact with the diplomatic corps, to clarify issues surrounding the postponement of the elections and the country’s readiness ahead of the general elections on Saturday, February 23.

In the run-up to the elections, the President Muhammadu Buhari government had on several occasions, raised concerns about what it described as interference from foreign bodies.
“At the end of the day, we are a sovereign nation and the line shouldn’t be crossed from exhorting us and wanting us to succeed and wanting this to be a really democratic process to dictating to us and really getting into the nitty-gritty of how we run the country which is exclusively the responsibility of this government,” Onyeama said.

Akpabio To Niger Deltans: Don't Vote For Those Planning To Sell NNPC
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 02-21-2019, 10:51 AM - No Replies

The National Coordinator, Presidential Support Committee, Senator Godswill Akpabio has insisted that considering the achievements of the President Muhammadu Buhari -led administration in office, Nigeria has no other better alternative than to give him another term.

Akpabio, who spoke with Journalists in Abuja, urged the South South people to reconsider their stand in planning to vote for the party that wants to sell the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC), and its other assets.

Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential Candidate, has vowed to sell the NNPC, if voted into power, to break what he called ‘mafia’ in the corporation.

But Senator Akpabio said it will not be in the interest of the Niger Delta people for NNPC to be sold.

“Yes I believe Nigerians can compare the difference between apple and orange. The reality is that this president has done very well considering the fact that he was able to take Nigeria out of recession.

“He met ongoing projects on ground, such as the airports and the railways. He completed and put them to use. Nigerians are clamoring for change, better health care, better educational facilities and all those things cannot happen when you spend almost 80 percent of resources on recurring expenses like pension, salary arrears.

“So we must commend the President and of course, if you take a look at what is happening on the Lagos-Ibadan railway, you will be very impressed. Take a look at the Abuja-Kano railway, some people now travel with rail to the North.

“The power sector has improved from 2,500MW to 7000MW. So many things are visible and the enabling environment is there in terms of law and order. The fight against corruption has really been intensified and the good thing is that it has now become a deterrent to any public official that yes…, if you go out of your way to move your pocket forward instead of your country or state, you will be held accountable.

“We in the Niger Delta are very apprehensive. I don’t think that there is any person in the South South who will go and vote for PDP. Even some of them are trying to purchase votes because when you look at the major policy document of the PDP today, they are talking about selling the NNPC.

“What does the NNPC have? Is it the building? What NNPC controls is the oil of the Niger Delta, oil wells, oil fields and all those things come together with the land. I don’t see anybody from the South South or any Niger Deltan, who will agree that the same way we sold out Nigeria Airways and we became a laughing stock in the comity of states in Africa is the same way NNPC should be sold.

“Look at Kenya Airways, Ethopia Airline, Ghana Airline, South African Airways and Nigeria has no single plane now called its own. We sold out our Aluminium Smelter Company in Ikot Abasi, that provided thousands of jobs and today that place is totally bare with over 690MW of electricity.

“We sold out Oku Iboku Paper Mill in Akwa Ibom and our people are there jobless. That massive structure is a waste.

All those things combined are things that frighten us when somebody talks about the sale of NNPC. The sale of NNPC on its own simply means that the Niger Deltans are going to be divested of not just their properties, not just the water that they fish in, but the fact that they will become tenants in their lands for the next 50 to 100 years. And people will come from outside, maybe friends of the government, and possess their land.

“The election also is between integrity and others. The President has shown that he can give what belongs to Niger Delta to Niger Delta. He is even refunding monies that were used during my tenure to repair Federal roads and what we use to call Paris Club refund.

“We tried everything under the PDP. We never had that money and I was a Governor and the FG was owing my state over 145 Billion on federal roads and the building of prisons and other things I had to intervene. I dualized federal roads, built airport and today, federal government is refunding those monies to the state.

“If you see a government that has shown sincerity, it simply means that we are now talking about a question of integrity and a question of postulation. We are postulating that if you bring in a government that will sell your father’s land, that will sell your oil wells and sell the waters that you use in fishing, then I can conclude that there is no alternative to President Buhari.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 21ST FEBRUARY.

BE PREPARED FOR HIS COMING.

But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer (1 Peter 4:7).

Some people say the world isn’t going to end anytime soon. They say, “This talk of Jesus coming soon has been on for ages; it’s never going to happen!” Well, anyone who talks like that is ignorant.

I tell you, Jesus Christ is coming again! 1 Corinthians 16:22 (AMPC) says, “If anyone does not love the Lord [does not have a friendly affection for Him and is not kindly disposed toward Him], he shall be accursed! Our Lord will come! (Maranatha!).”

The events and happenings all around the world today are clear indications that the Lord’s return is approaching, sooner than many can imagine. We’re in the last days. In Luke 21:25-26, Jesus said that in the last days, there’ll be perplexity of nations, men’s hearts failing them for fear: “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear....”

There’re very few events that need to take place before the King finally shows up. Many aren’t prepared for His return, but don’t be among such people. Someone might ask, “Isn’t He going to take every Christian with Him?” Yes, He’s going to take Christians who are expecting Him; not those who have forgotten about Him and have become so carnal and live as though Jesus isn’t coming. Hebrews 9:28 says, “…and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”

When the Apostle Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 5:6 admonished us not to sleep, he wasn’t talking about physical sleep. He was talking about spiritual sleep; when you’re so deep into worldly things that you become unaware of, and oblivious to spiritual realities around you. Jesus told us to watch and pray, “…for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 24:44).

We must be awake and alert in the spirit; let your life be guided by His love, by His Word and by your expectation of His coming. Let your desire to win more people to Christ flourish, because we’ve got to win them; otherwise, they’ll perish without God. This is the drive; this is what keeps us working to make sure we leave no stone unturned in our quest and pursuit for the souls of men.

CONFESSION

I’m fully convinced that the Gospel is God’s saving power to everyone who believes, and therefore, I’m resolute in my commitment to win more people to Christ, snatching many out of the kingdom of darkness into the glorious liberty of the sons of God. Hallelujah!

FURTHER STUDY:

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Romans 13:11-14 And that, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].

Mark 13:32-33 But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. 33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

#TALKINGSESSION

21ST FEBRUARY.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Father, thank You for the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. His presence is the greatest blessing I could ever have, for He is my advantage and the secret to the glorious and successful life. I yield myself totally to You dear Holy Spirit, to fulfill Your ministry in my life and manifest Your glory
through me. I am energized for victory and

positioned for the transcendent life by the Spirit of God who lives in me! By Him I labour, striving according to the working of His power that works within me mightily. I am excelling in every area of my life because the competence and excellence by which I function are by the Spirit. Hallelujah!

God bless you

Mrs Jennifer Douglas-Abubakar, wife of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, has tasked zonal coordinators to ensure electorates in different zones and wards are of peaceful conduct and law abiding in the forthcoming presidential elections, slated for Saturday February 23rd, 2019.

She made the call on Wednesday in Abuja while hosting Zonal coordinators of PDP, following the postponment of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

She bekoned on parents not to allow their children or wards to be used as electoral thugs. She averred that the shoot at sight order on ballot box snatchers from President Buhari is a deliberate bait to spill the blood of innocent Nigerians at the slightest provocation, thus the need for all to be vigilant and stick to the rules.

Mrs Abubakar tasks the coordinators to ensure that the electorates don't just vote but protect their votes and ensure it counts, stressing that they must not condone any act of rigging.

She asked them to be steadfast and not to deter or be discouraged in the fight to get Nigeria working again, adding that their vote is their voice and power, and it should be used to kick out the current administration.

"A precondition for free, fair and credible elections is for people to cast their votes without threats, intimidation or violence. Go out en masse on February 23rd and 9th March and cast your vote. Be law abiding, be respectful to all, vote your conscience, defend your vote above all stay safe.

"Please stay safe in the lead up to, and during the upcoming elections. Be respectful, cautious and do not engage with disruptive people", she admonished.

Saturday, February 23, 2019 has been fixed for the presidential and the National Assembly elections while March 9, 2019 has been fixed for the governorship, State House of Assembly and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

Pastor Arrested For Raping Minors At School For Orphans

A Nigerian Pastor identified as Rev. Isaac Newton-Wusu, has been arrested and arraigned before an Ogun State High Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, for allegedly raping minors at the Stephen Centre International School in Abeokuta, a school established some decades ago to serve as a shelter and educational facility for children, who were either orphaned or had lost either of their parents to violence in Kaduna, Jos and insurgency in different parts of the North-East.

The septuagenarian cleric who is said to be the Director of Home School, was accused of assaulting and raping some pupils of the school between the ages of 12 and 16 years. He reportedly raped one of the victims on four different occasions sometime in 2010 at his office in Abeokuta.

However counsel to the Pastor arrested for raping minors, Samuel Nwaji prayed the court to admit the defendant to bail on liberal terms. State counsel, Solomon Mareh, who insisted that the cleric was not who the defence counsel described him to be, said he had a penchant for tampering with witnesses.

Punch reported that the defendant was granted bail in the sum of N5m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of three years’ tax payment. The defendant was ordered to be remanded in the Kirikiri Prison in Lagos pending when the bail conditions would be perfected, as the case was adjourned the case till April 4 for hearing of the preliminary objection to the suit.

Imo 2019: Okorocha thumb-printing ballot papers –Izunaso
Thursday, February 21, 2019  politics

Osita Izunaso Senatorial Campaign Organisation has accused Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, of engaging the services of young Hausa men for the thumb-printing of ballot papers ahead of the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly of polls on Saturday.

Senator Osita Izunaso is the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Imo West senatorial District.

The legal adviser to the APGA senatorial candidate, Prince Orji Nwafor- Orizu, who made the allegation, yesterday, at a press conference, in Owerri, said his client, being a law abiding citizen, has decided to alert the general public on the alleged ongoing thumb-printing of ballot papers, at the Spibat Residence of Governor Okorocha, who is also the senatorial candidate of the APC in the election.

Nwafor-Orizu also disclosed that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Imo State, the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have all been notified of the incident.

“We have evidence from one of the security guards, who is an Hausa man, who has been away since last Saturday, and later called to tell his boss, who is a member of our campaign team that they were at Spibat, where they have been paid to thumb-print ballot papers and that is still ongoing as we speak. We have already written to the security agencies and to Imo REC on this matter.”

However, Governor Okorocha has dismissed the allegation as frivolous and said Izunaso is not only a frustrated man, but one of the most unpopular and colourless politicians in the state.

The governor’s media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, in a statement, said: “Rochas Okorocha won elections in 2011 and 2015, respectively, through the ballot papers. Osita Izunaso is one of the most unpopular and colourless politicians in the State. And he is not an attractive politician to any voter in the State. Governor Okorocha has campaigned in the 12 local governments of Orlu zone. Ditto, in all the zones and the state in general for President Muhammadu Buhari and other candidates of APC, but Izunaso has never campaigned anywhere.”

Cement firm builds N11b power plant
Thursday, February 21, 2019  NEW

Ashaka Cement Company, has unveiled plans to inaugurate its N11 billion 16-megawatt power plant.

The firm, a subsidiary of Lafarge Africa, said the power plant project started in 2017 would improve and solve the country’s energy problem.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Rabiu Abdullah Umar, unveiled during the 2018 award ceremony for its distributors.

He said the power plant, would not only release additional megawatts to the national grid, but also create employment opportunities, boost operational efficiency and tackle the high energy cost of the largest industry in Nigeria’s northeast.

“Last year, we started our power plant, which is an N11billion project, and we will inaugurate the project soon, signalling the end to the use of generators for our operations.

“So, we are helping to remove ourselves from the demand for energy, and providing our own solution, which means a minimum of 16 megawatts of electricity, will now become available to the public grid for the people in the region to enjoy from.

The power plant is our biggest plan aimed at reducing our costs,” he added.

The power plant, infrastructure, and cement capacity are all testament to this commitment to the development of Nigeria.

We are celebrating a good year and look forward to even better collaboration in 2019.”

Also speaking, the Country Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Africa, Michel Puchercos, expressed appreciation to all the distributors for their remarkable performance in keeping the Lafarge range of products among the top brands in the market.

“For your commitment to results through the years and in 2018 in particular, Lafarge Africa says a big thank you, and we look forward to a more fruitful year in 2019.

“This year, we are set to change the way we do business with our customers by empowering our customers to become partners.’

Army, SARS plotting to rig polls in Rivers, PDP alleges
Thursday, February 21, 2019  NEW

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has accused the Nigerian Army and the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of plotting to rig forthcoming elections in the state.

The party made the allegation, yesterday, at a press conference organised by its stakeholders in eight local government areas in the state, at the party’s headquarters, along Aba Road, Port Harcourt.

The eight local government areas represented at the event include Akuku Toru, Andoni, Asari Toru, Bonny, Degema, Ogu Bolo, Okrika and Opobo/Nkoro.

In a statement signed by former deputy governor of Rivers State, Tele Ikuruon, the stakeholders specifically accused the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Jamil Sarham and the Commander State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), ACP Akin Fakorede of plotting to rig the polls in the riverine communities of the state.

The statement read in part: “We are peace loving political leaders of oil and gas producing riverine Ijaw communities of Rivers State, here represented by serving and former deputy governors, ministers, Speakers of State House of Assembly, national and state assembly members, commissioners, local government council chairmen and councilors, etc.

“The purpose of this press conference is to draw the attention of Nigerians and the international community of the evolving plan by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Jamil Sarham, and the Commander State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) ACP. Akin Victor Fakorede, to destabilize, rig and abort the peaceful conduct of the 2019 elections in the riverine communities of Rivers State.”

The PDP stakeholders said as security officers Sarham and Fakorede are expected to be neutral, honest and fair in the discharge of their duties to the nation, but alleged that “both men have profoundly signed on to the evolving plan to destabilise, rig and scuttle the peaceful conduct of the elections.

“Reports reaching us indicate that with absolute defeat staring them in its face, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has recruited and armed some bandits to enable it actualise its devilish plan to rig and/or prevent the elections from holding in all the riverine Local Government Areas of Akuku Toru, Andoni, Asari Toru, Bonny, Degema, Ogu/Bolo Okrika and Opobo/Nkoro.

“These bandits have been detailed to storm our communities in speedboats and attack, overrun, disrupt the voting process and destroy voting materials to such extent that would justify the total cancellation of the elections.”

The further alleged that in order to shore up support and enable the plot to succeed, the APC has connived with the duo of Major Sarham and ACP Fakorede to provide cover for the bandits who will allegedly be clad in police and military uniforms.

The PDP stakeholders also alleged that the bandits have been detailed to assemble a detachment of loyal operatives to work hand in gloves with the APC, to actualise the overall objectives of violently orchestrating low voter turn out in the entire riverine local government areas, where the PDP enjoys massive support.

“To strengthen the afore-mentioned operations, Major General Jamil Sarham has allegedly also directed the deployment of gunboats to patrol, block the waterways and prevent indigenes and residents from getting to their homes from Friday (tomorrow).

“Confirmed reports also show that Major Sarham and ACP Fakorede have penciled for arrest and detention the party chairmen of all the eight local government councils and other principal PDP leaders in our communities until after the presidential election.

“ACP Fakorede is not new in such ignoble roles in Rivers State elections.

“He did it in 2016, against the PDP during the national and state House of Assembly re-run elections, and was, accordingly, indicted by INEC.”

The group noted that Fakorede, who was posted along with others for election duties to Borno State, has been “surreptitiously” returned to Rivers State.

“As facts have shown, Major General Sarham and Mr. Fakorede are openly sympathetic to the APC, and pathologically biased against the PDP.

“We are constrained, therefore, to call on the international community, especially the United States, Britain and the European Union to bring to bear, maximum pressure on INEC and the Federal Government, to allow peaceful, free, fair and credible elections in our communities.

“We further request the international community to monitor the general elections in the eight riverine local government areas of the state.

“We strongly re-state that we have no confidence in the integrity and neutrality of Major General Sarham and ACP Fakorede as senior security officers and, consequently, request them to recuse themselves from election duties in Rivers State before they create avoidable crisis of limitless dimensions in our communities,” the PDP stakeholders said.

Also, the women chapter of Rivers PDP has raised the alarm over alleged influx of security agencies, particularly the military, in several communities, ahead Saturday and March 9 elections in the state.

Their reaction came barely 24 hours after the party’s campaign council accused the APC and the military of plots to cause crisis in the state during the forthcoming elections.

Coordinator of the women and State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Barr (Mrs.) Ukel Oyaghiri, who addressed the media, yesterday, said evidence abound that the rights of Rivers people would be infringed upon by security agencies during the elections.

Mrs. Oyaghiri said the women were worried about the hate speeches two chieftains of the APC in the state made, adding that neither the presidency nor security agencies have called them to order.

Bitcoin On Course To Match Longest Winning Streak Of 2018
Thursday, February 21, 2019  BUSINESS

Bitcoin was set on Wednesday to match its longest winning streak of last year, with traders ascribing a potential sixth straight day of gains to heavy buying of smaller coins and perceptions that cryptocurrencies are gaining ground in mainstream finance.

Bitcoin, the original and biggest cryptocurrency, has gained over 10 percent since Wednesday.

The No.2 coin by market capitalisation Ethereum has gained 21 percent in the same period, with No.3 coin Ripple’s XRP gaining 9.5 percent.

Six consecutive days of gains is a rarity for bitcoin that it last saw in July – a bright patch during 2018 when bitcoin’s value crashed by three-quarters.

Prices have not recovered since, with bitcoin trading at between $3,000-$4,000 this year.

Army Chief Accuses Atiku, Others of Inciting Military

Wednesday, February 20, 2019  NEW

Ahead of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly election, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, Wednesday accused the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, some other presidential candidates of inciting the military to disobedience.

Buratai, who demanded that a statement credited to the former Vice President be withdrawn, said it was unfortunate that some presidential hopefuls aspiring to “rule the country again” were inciting the military.

The PDP flag bearer and former Vice President had, in his speech at the NEC meeting of the party, urged the military not to carry out unlawful orders, following President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that ballot box snatchers risk losing their lives.

Speaking at a meeting with principal staff officers, and military commanders at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, Buratai said the military remained apolitical, stating that such incitement would not be tolerated.

“It is unfortunate to hear persons who are aspiring to rule this country again inciting the army to disobedience. We have consistently stated our position in the political dispensation to remain neutral and apolitical.

“However, direct and public incitement of the Nigerian Military against democracy and constituted civil authority will not be tolerated. I request such persons to withdraw this inciting statement.

“Let me re-emphasise loud and clear, that the Nigerian Army is a professional army. The foundation of military professionalism is discipline and without discipline an army cannot stand.

“One of our core values is loyalty to constituted authority. Loyalty must be hundred per cent. I shall leave you in no doubt as to our resolve to bequeath a professionally responsive army to Nigeria and Nigerians”, he said.

He warned that officers who are not given to loyalty should resign before the election.

“Should any officer or soldier have doubts as to his loyalty to the Nigerian State as presently constituted, such a person has up to 22 February 2019 to resign. There is no room for indiscipline or disobedience to lawful orders in the Nigerian Army today”, he said.

He said those seeking to undermine democracy should be regarded as enemies of democracy.

“I wish to first remind all of you that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable. Hence those who seek to undermine our democracy by interfering in our electoral process must be seen as enemies of Nigeria and dealt with appropriately.

“Our role is aptly captured in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and we must defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity as well as act in aid of civil authority when called upon to do so.

“Therefore, commanders must work with all stakeholders, interest groups and agencies to avert any act by any individual, groups or entities that seek to undermine our democratic process”, he said.

Buratai noted that the political thuggery, ballot box snatching and illegal possession of electoral materials were acts designed to mar elections.

He warned commanders not to hobnob with politicians, restrict movements within their areas of responsibility, conduct extensive patrols while suspicious persons and vehicles are to be searched, arrested and impounded.

“I want to remind all here present that the act of electoral thuggery, snatching of ballot boxes, illegal possession of elections materials and similar crimes are intended to mar an election and create deliberate avenues for post-election violence and mayhem.

“Such actions can also become more damaging when they are widespread, leading to destruction of lives and properties. Incidences of this nature in previous elections are often planned and orchestrated by politicians and the NA has hitherto been very cautious in its approach.

“However, this time around the NA will adopt a proactive posture that ensures that similar incidences do not even arise. Accordingly, in addition to my earlier directives to you in the last Operations Conference, I wish to lay emphasis on the following actions that all commanders are to abide by”.

“Commanders must deal decisively with any electoral crime or action that would be inimical to National Security. Commanders are to ensure that they and their personnel do not hobnob with politicians at any level.

“In this regard, there will be no military escort for any politician and all NA personnel are to stay clear of retired military officers especially those who are now politicians until after the elections.

“Commanders are to conduct extensive patrols within their Area of Responsiblity (AORs). They must ensure that all flash points within the area are dominated.

“Commanders must in conjunction with the Nigerian Police enforce the restriction on movement within their AORs. All vehicles must be searched and suspicious persons or vehicles arrested/impounded and later hand over to the NPF”, he said.

The army chief further directed that “commanders must ensure they key into the NA Elections Security Monitoring Situation Room to send and receive near real-time information on events, as they occur in their Area of Responsibility (AOR).

“I have laid emphasis on these few points to remind everyone that these are delicate times and the NA must support Nigeria’s march towards enduring democracy”.

Nigeria elections: El-Rufai to be prosecuted for threatening to kill foreigner – Falana
Wednesday, February 20, 2019  NEW

                            [Image: Femi-Falana-and-el-Rufai-.jpg?w=465&ssl=1]
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana SAN, has hinted on the possible prosecution of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over his “body bag” threat against foreigners who interfere with Nigeria’s elections.

Falana stated that El-Rufai would be prosecuted at the expiration of his tenure as governor.

Speaking at the secretariat of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, during a memorial event in honour of Beko Ransome-Kuti, on Tuesday, the activist lawyer also urged the international communities to impose a visa ban on El-rufai.

The activist lawyer also disclosed that the governor’s remark was a prove that the general elections would be a do-or-die affair.

He said: “Last week, Mr. Nasiru El Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State threatened that foreign election observers and monitors who interfere in the 2019 general elections would return to their countries in body bags because nobody will come to Nigeria and tell us how to run out country.

“The threat to attack and kill foreign election observers in Nigeria constitutes an infraction of the Electoral Act, 2010 and the Penal Code but because Governor El Rufai currently enjoys immunity his trial and prosecution for the offence will have to await the end of his tenure.

“The western countries that have threatened to place travel restrictions on members of the ruling class who incite violence or interfere in the electoral process should not hesitate to make an example of the governor without any further delay.

“The Special Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court who has also warned against any form of electoral violence in the country is urged to hold Governor El Rufai responsible if foreign observers and monitors are killed during the 2019 general election.

“Notwithstanding the recklessness of the threat to attack foreign election observers, Governor El Rufai’s has confirmed that the 2019 general election is going to be a do or die affair (apologies to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo) for the leading factions of the ruling class.

“Since leading politicians have recruited and armed thugs the general elections will be characterised by violence in many parts of the country. Even if some of the thugs are arrested and are arraigned in the courts, the various attorneys-general would file nolle prosequi to terminate the criminal cases as the managers of the neocolonial state cannot afford to prosecute their armed agents.

“Therefore, since the children of the sponsors of violence are in expensive schools at home and abroad we urge the masses of our people not to allow their own children to be used as cannon fodders during the battle for the control of political power and economic resources of the country by the ruling class.

“It is indubitably clear that both APC and PDP are resolutely committed to the status quo which permits the manipulation of election results.

“Hence, both parties have rejected the reform of the electoral system. But it is high time democratic forces mounted sufficient pressure on the political class to implement the recommendations of the electoral reform panels.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned Aminat Musa, Chief Executive Officer, Rabahaska International Company Limited, and Adekoyejo Gbadebo, Director, El-Gafok Investment Nigeria Limited for defrauding 15 home-seekers in a N34 million property scam.

Musa and Gbadebo were brought before Justice M.A. Nasir of a Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Jabi, on February 19, 2019 and are facing a 17-count charge bordering on advance fee fraud and forgery.

A statement from the agency says they are alleged to have at various times in 2017 collected various sums of money from their victims, amounting to N34,175,350 in the guise that they were building an estate to be known as Munauwara Estate/Rabahaska International Co, and had allocated houses to them.

They also allegedly forged certain documents captioned, Ministry for Federal Capital Territory, El-Gafok Investment Nigeria Limited, Plot No ED2045, Sabon Lugbe East Extension Layout dated 20/5/2002.
One of the counts reads in part: “That you, Aminat Musa (CEO, Rabahaska international Company Limited and Prince Adekoyejo Gbadebo (Director, El-Gafok), sometime in 2017, in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud obtained the aggregate sum of N8,500,000 only from Abubakar Sadiq Barka under the false pretence that you were capable of building an estate to be known as Munauwara Estate/Rabahaska Intl Co wherefrom building was allocated to him, which you knew to be false”.
Another count reads: “That you, Aminat Ibrahim Musa (CEO, Rabahaska International Company Limited) and Prince Adekoyejo Gbadebo (Director, El-Gafok) sometimes in 2017 in Abuja within the Jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intend to defraud obtained the aggregate sum of N2,365,600 only from Musa Giwa Yusuf under the pretence that you were capable of building an estate to be known as Munauwara estate/ Rabahaska international company wherefrom building was allocated to him which you knew to be false”.
They pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.
Counsel for the first and second defendants, Maman Mayaki and Ify Ofou, thereafter, moved the bail application for their clients, which was dated February 11, 2019.
Responding, counsel for the EFCC, Ayo Fadahunsi, opposed the bail application for Aminat, and urged the Court to “resolve all the issues raised in the prosecution’s counter-affidavit”.
“My lord, the first defendant jumped the administrative bail earlier granted to her by the Commission,” he said, further urging the court to “dismiss the application for bail and grant accelerated hearing of the case”.
Fadahunsi, however, did not oppose the bail application for Gbadebo.
After listening to all the arguments, Justice Nasir granted them bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be a civil servant of not less than Grade Level 10, while the other must be a resident of Abuja.
They are to be remanded in prison, pending the perfection of their bail conditions.

The case has been adjourned to April 1, 2019 for “commencement of trial”.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, today secured the conviction of Osikoya Gbolahan and Rabiu Daniel for offences bordering on impersonation and fraudulently sharing pornographic and indecent pictures.

A statement from the agency says they were arraigned before Justice Watilat Ibrahim of a Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State on December 10, 2018 and both faced a separate one-count charge.

The charge against Osikoya reads: “That you, Osikoya Gbolahon (aka Mary; aka Lisa Burkholder) sometimes in 2018, at Awa-Ijebu within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court knowingly sent pornographic and indecent pictures with your e-mail through a computer system and network to one Michael Lukianoff and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 24 (1) (a) and punishable under Section 24 (1) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc) Act, 2015.”
The charge against Rabiu reads: “That you, Rabiu Daniel (aka Agent Howard Hall) on 23rd June, 2018 at Awa-Ijebu within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court fraudulently impersonated Agent Howard Hall, working for the Government/Facebook Compensation bonus and poverty Eradication in order to gain undue advantage for yourself, thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22 (3) (a) and punishable under Section 22 (4) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc) Act, 2015.”
They however, pleaded “guilty” to the charge, after opting for a plea bargain.
In view of the plea, counsel for the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Suleman, prayed the court to convict them accordingly.
Justice Ibrahim, thereafter, convicted them and sentenced them to four months in prison, starting from the date of their arrest.
Osikoya was also ordered to forfeit his Honda Accord car, two phones and laptop computer to the Federal Government.
In addition to forfeiting his two iPhones and laptop computer, Rabiu was ordered to refund $500 to his victim.

2019 Election: US Congressman advises Buhari to live up to GEJ's legacy of peaceful transition

As reactions continue to trail the postponement of the 2019 general elections, a US congressman has written a letter to president Buhari asking him to emulate the peaceful transition process of the Jonathan administration.
Chris Smith, a ranking Republican in the House sub-committee on Africa laid the blame for the postponement squarely on president Buhari's shoulders. He said this in a letter to President Buhari titled, ‘On the Postponement of Elections in Nigeria,’
The letter reads:

Quote:“Responsibility for the delay of Nigeria’s presidential election lays squarely with President Muhammadu Buhari and those close to him. Actions in advance of the election — including removal of Supreme Court Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen and arson attacks on Independent National Electoral Commission offices in opposition strongholds — are undermining confidence that this election and subsequent gubernatorial elections will be free and fair. At a minimum, the presidential election must meet the 2015 standard, which saw a peaceful transfer of power and a statement by the then-sitting president that all bloodshed must be avoided.”

"In addition to being sub-Saharan Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria is its biggest economy, and what happens in Nigeria has ramifications beyond its borders,” Smith said.

“Given the magnitude of global problems Secretary Pompeo must contend with, he should consider appointing a Special Envoy for Nigeria vested with full authority. “The State Department must use all tools at its disposal, including visa denial and sanctioning authority, to hold accountable those who undermine democracy and foment sectarian and ethnic violence,” Smith added

Akwa Ibom flags off state-owned airline– no commercial activities yet

February 20
20:412019

Akwa Ibom has launched its own airline, Ibom Air, although it will not start commercial operations soon.

Present at the launch in Uyo, the state capital, on Wednesday was Bukola Saraki, the senate president.
The Niger Delta state, which already has an international airport, says it will resume operations with three aeroplanes; two of which have been delivered and were displayed at the ceremony.
It also claimed to have recruited 300 direct staff.

Planespotter.net lists just one plane for the new airline, a 7.7-year-old Bombardier CRJ-900, which it says is due to be delivered on January 23.
It can be recalled that the federal government also took up the initiative of owning an airline, Nigerian Air, that was meant to be “private sector-led”.

While unveiling its name and logo at the Farnborough International Airshow in London, Hadi Sirika, minister of state for aviationhad disclosed that the airline would have flights on 81 domestic, regional and international routes, with operations scheduled to begin in December 2018.

Amid expectations of its launch, the federal government announced that it had suspended the project, citing investors apathy.

It explained that investors who were supposed to partner with the government on the project were no longer forthcoming.

However, Sirika said the project was only suspended temporarily and not due to investor apathy.

They both showed up on each other's live video this evening as Cee-C prepares for the launch of her new business, Cegar.

Recall that their issues started in the house when Tobi moved from Cee-C to Alex, and it continued when they came out and Leo moved to Cee-C.

Seems they are now cool!!!!

Rescheduled Elections Could Encounter Setback In 13 States Due To INEC Staff Shortage

Our checks show that 205 staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), all playing crucial roles, have been interdicted by the commission for the past 22 months. The affected officials are either Electoral Officers (EOs) or Heads of Department (HoDs) saddled with logistics and operational duties at all levels. One source expressed certainty that INEC Electoral Officers and other critical field officials from 13 states, all numbering 205, will not be participating in the exercise.

Quote:The rescheduled 2019 elections may suffer yet another setback as no fewer than 13 states are battling with a shortfall of critical field staff, SaharaReporters can report.

Adamawa, Anambra, Cross Rivers, Delta, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Lagos, Niger, Ogun, Osun and Taraba are some of the states already on the red alert, according to investigations.

Sources within the commission have raised the alarm about another possible flop, saying, "Saturday's rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections may still suffer another setback, due to the huge gap of experience created by the interdiction.”

One source expressed certainty that INEC Electoral Officers and other critical field officials from 13 states, all numbering 205, will not be participating in the exercise.

Worse still, the commission has not competently replaced the loss of manpower, thereby exposing the process to a plethora of problems as witnessed last week.

It was gathered that Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from the affected 13 states have made several appeals about shortfall of staff, but to no avail.

For instance, Kashim Gaidam, REC of Adamawa State, was said to have cried out the loudest about "manpower shortfall". SaharaReporters gathered that majority of those currently handling both professional and technical roles were drawn from menial staff, like security and cleaners.

In Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa, the current Electoral Officer was recruited as a guard by the commission. The situation is virtually the same in a good number of other places. Jada is both hometown and local government origin of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

As to how and why the 205 were interdicted, SaharaReporters further learnt that about 1,000 INEC staff across the country were implicated in the alleged Diezani Alison-Madueke $90 billion loot.

One of the interdicted staff told SaharaReporters: "For us, the hullabaloo about INEC staff accepting gratification from the alleged Diezani loot was the Chairman's invented way of conducting the elections with incompetent hands.

"The allegation is that we accepted gratification from proceeds of Diezani's loot through West Africa Network on Observer (WANO), an accredited election monitoring organisation.

"Yes, WANO partnered INEC in 2015 and they were domiciled right within INEC office, where they gave all of us cash grants for logistics support. This was done in the open, there was nothing hidden about it.

"Later, we were summoned to Abuja and asked to refund the money, that it was from the Diezani loot, and we did. Afterwards, we received letters of interdiction from INEC headquarters that we had been found guilty of an offence we were neither investigated nor queried about.”

It is curious, however, that the interdiction has now lasted for 22 months. What is more disturbing is that the commission is faced with acute manpower needs at this critical time. Also, some staff of the commission, who are currently standing trial, in connection to various scandals have not been interdicted.

This, SaharaReporters can report based on facts available, seeing the Admin Secretary in Bauchi and Anambra have both been indicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Diezani saga but have not been interdicted.

Another interdicted staff member said: "Also curious is how the staff remained suspended despite confirmation by EFCC, that the 205 staff were not liable to prosecution regarding the matter at hand.”

When contacted to react on the matter, Gaidam admitted to having made spirited efforts for the reinstatement of the interdicted staff from his Adamawa office. However, he refuted claims that the interdiction could jeopardise the polls. "If Gaidam falls down right now elections will go on hitch-free," he maintained.

Asked for how long the staff would remain suspended, Gaidam said: "The issue is before the National Chairman, please direct the question to him.”

He also alluded to the fact that justice needed to be done on the matter, saying: “Without justice any system of government will collapse."

Man Defiles 6-Year-Old Girl In Nnewi, Anambra State

A 6-year-old girl identified as Angel, from Akwa Ibom State, but resident in Obiofia-Nnewichi, Nnewi, with her parents, was allegedly defiled by a 40-year-old man identified simply as Chukwudi, aka Alaukpor from Ukpor, Nnewi South LGA.

MAN DEFILES 6-YEAR- OLD GIRL IN NNEWI, ANAMBRA STATE

The incident took place Obiofia-Nnewichi, Nnewi in Anambra State penultimate week.

The mother of the victim, who introduced herself as Mrs. Peterson, a petty trader in Nnewi, told Anaedooline that she was in her shop with the little Angel the fateful day when she sent the little girl to get a lantern from their house for evening business.

According to her, it took the little girl a very long time to return to the shop. She said that she noticed the strange way her daughter was walking, but overlooked it.

She continued: “After the night’s business, we went home. It was my husband that noticed that some fluid was coming out from her vagina. He called my attention to that, I cleaned it and slept. In the morning, my husband called his sister, who was a nurse and explained the situation. She advised that we should consult a medical doctor for advice. When we met a doctor, he conducted a test and told us that the fluid was sperm.

“We had to call the little girl and asked her questions. She told us that Chukwudi, our neighbor, called her inside his room and had sex with her the night she was sent to get a lantern.

“We confronted Chukwudi but he denied. We reported the incident to community vigilante group in Umuogbo-Obiofia, Nnewichi, Nnewi for necessary actions”.

Mrs. Peterson further said that since the incident was reported, the family is yet to see any action taken by the vigilante.

She said that the culprit, Chukwudi, a widower and father of two, has run away from the yard since the incident took place, and has refused to return to Nnewi since then.

PDP Accuses APC, Presidency Of Fresh Plot To Rig In Kano, Lagos, 14 Other States
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-20-2019, 10:14 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigerian Presidency of arm-twisting security agencies and plotting to replace Electoral Officers (EOs) in “some critical states” with APC agents to allegedly rig this Saturday’s presidential election.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan, told newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, that the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu had allegedly succumbed to pressure to replace Electoral Officers in PDP strongholds in order to rig the election in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The states, according to Ologbondiyan, are Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, Bauchi, Akwa-Ibom, Zamfara, Benue, Sokoto, Lagos, Plateau, Taraba, Borno, Adamawa, Kogi, Delta and Ebonyi.

“At a meeting held in Buhari Presidency/APC situation room in the Presidential Villa last night (Tuesday) where Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, the Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mustapha Boss, among others, were in attendance, Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) were directed to issue out result sheets to APC agents to falsify and declare results in favour of the APC.

“Also, our party has full details of how the Department of State Services (DSS) has been interfering with operations of critical departments of INEC, including the ICT department, to do APC bidding.

“The PDP also has details of the meeting last night (Tuesday) by President Buhari, some APC northern governor and Service Chiefs last night, whereupon pressure was mounted on the Service Chiefs in connection with the APC rigging plans.

“However, the PDP, in clear terms, assures INEC, compromised security agents and President Buhari that their evil plans will definitely come to naught.

“Nigerians are now, more than ever before, determined in rallying with our party, to confront, resist and stop President Buhari and the APC on their trail to rig the February 23 election.

“These APC EOs have been briefed to ensure the diversion of sensitive electoral materials from designated polling centres, delay the accreditation process, so as to frustrate voters’ enthusiasm, compromise the collation process to allocate and announce fictitious results for President Buhari and muddle up the process to pave way for result cancellation where it becomes impossible to rig for President Buhari.

“It is now clearer that the Election Day killing order issued by President Buhari is designed to clamp-down and even kill patriotic Nigerians who will want to confront and stop the APC from executing their rigging plots on the day of election,” the PDP said.

..... While Lagos own was taken to kwara

Quote:by Adekunle Jimoh, Ilorin

Kwara state Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mallam Garba Madami, on Wednesday said the results sheets for last Saturday’s rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections were mistakenly taken to the Federal capital Authority (FCT), Abuja’s INEC office.

He added the ones for Lagos were inadvertently brought to Kwara while that of Lagos were taken to Nasarawa state.

Madami added: “The result sheets for kwara was found in our FCT office in Abuja and they are going to be sent today .I will be here (CBN) till they bring it

“Also the results sheet of Lagos was found here. I have sent it back, that of Lagos was also found in Nasarawa .You can see the reason the election was postponed,” the REC said.

Madami said this in Ilorin, the state capital while addressing party agents at the commencement of distribution of sensitive elections materials from the Ilorin office of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to local government areas.

Nigeria will consider reducing oil output for higher prices - President Buhari tells Saudi  Arabia

President Buhari has pledged the cooperation of Nigeria to the effort to reduce oil output in order to attract higher prices in the global market.

Speaking at an audience with Ahmad Qattan, Minister of State for African Affairs and Special Envoy of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and King of Saudi Arabia, at the State House, Abuja, President Buhari said as a responsible member of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, Nigeria was willing to go along with the Saudi initiative in limiting output so that prices would go up.

The President said output cuts had always been difficult for Nigeria considering the country’s peculiar circumstances of large population, huge expanse of land and state of under-development, adding, “I wish we can produce more.”

He, however, said: “I have listened carefully to the message. I will speak with the Minister of State Petroleum. I will call for the latest production figures. I know that it is in our interest to listen. We will cooperate.”

President Buhari explained that higher oil prices will make both nations stronger and their citizens more prosperous. He commended King Salman for his leadership in global oil matters, assuring that Nigeria will continue to accord respect to the Kingdom in that regard.

The Special Envoy said he had brought special greetings from King Salman and the Crown Prince, and expressed their best wishes for Nigeria as the country goes into general elections. Qattan said the important reason for which King Salman sent him was to make a request to President Buhari to ensure Nigeria’s compliance with quotas assigned in January by exiting previous exemption from output cuts.

He said his country had reduced its own output by 1.4 million barrels per day to ensure that prices went up, stressing however, that Saudi Arabia alone cannot bring stability to the oil market and shore up prices. The Special Envoy called for greater adherence to production cuts by Nigeria and hoped that he would take a positive message back home.

Kano: Mosques, Markets Targeted For Bomb Attack, Foreign Observers Allege
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-20-2019, 09:03 PM - No Replies

A team of foreign observers under the aegis of the Pan African Women Project International Observers have raised the alarm over classified information of a planned bomb attack on selected targets in Kano.

The observers said they received emails from a source they did not make public, that a mosque and popular market were being targeted for the attack ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Publicity Secretary of the group, Ms. Mphoeue Keitseng, who hails from Botswana, said this at a joint press conference with their local partners in Kano, late on Tuesday.

The group also noted that from their interactions with stakeholders across Nigeria, they observed that the late release of funds to the Independent National Electoral Commission played a substantial role in events which led to the postponement if the elections.

Keitseng said, “Following our consultations with various stakeholders with regard to the recent postponement of Nigeria’s 2019 elections, the following are our observations:

“We have observed that the Nigerian government did not release funds to INEC on time, which resulted in supplies not being made for the production of materials for the elections. For instance, many observer groups up till now are yet to receive their accreditation tags, jackets and caps.

"Secondly, the state (Kano) as you see today is generally quiet, but there is classified information that reached us this evening.

“Please, note a planned bomb explosion in some sensitive locations in Kano by political thugs. These include: a general mosque and a popular market.

“We use this medium to speak to the Nigerian government to beef up security in all public areas such as mosques, churches and markets.

"Lastly, from the press briefing held in Abuja, which we attended, many sensitive materials as at this moment, have arrived INEC offices. However, we look forward to a successful 2019 elections.”

In response to a question as to how they came to the conclusion that funds were not released to INEC on time, she said, “The suppliers told us that they were only given deposits for the materials last month — January.”

Asked if the group has shared the security information with relevant Nigerian security agencies, the Head of the Mission, a Nigerian, Dr. Uben Udensi, said, “We just came into Kano, we intend to do so.

The group also urged the Nigerian government and all other stakeholders to take steps to ensure that Saturday’s polls are free, fair and credible.
