Nigerian man sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in South Africa for conning women out of over N26m in online dating scam

The Bellville Commercial Crimes Court Cape Town, has sentenced a Nigerian fraudster Chinonso Pascal Eze, who ran an online dating scam in which he duped unsuspecting women out of over R1 035 030 (N26m)

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Eric Ntabazalila said in a statement that Eze, 36, was on Thursday, April 29, sentenced to 20 years imprisonment after being convicted on 23 counts of fraud and nine counts of money laundering.

Eze entered into a plea and sentencing agreement with the State on Thursday and confessed to being part of a syndicate which operated an online dating scam.

He told the court the ultimate goal was to secure large sums of money from “unsuspecting victims”.

The court heard that Eze and members of the syndicate reached out to victims through dating sites. He groomed women, gaining their trust, and then requested money from them in “emergencies”.

Ntabazalila said the syndicate created fake dating profiles using the names Marcos Ivan, Michael Brandy Smart and Craig Thompson.

The profiles portrayed wealthy men who were in a position to repay the victims, and this was a deliberate action to create a false sense of security in the victims.

In the first incident, Eze pretended to be Ivan and communicated with the victim via a dating site and even sent her photos of “himself”.

Eze, gaining the trust of his victim, managed to swindle a total of R314 950 between November 2017 and January 2018.

In the second incident, Eze pretended to be Smart, where he used the same modus operandi and managed to swindle a total of R186 080 that was deposited into accounts held by four people.

The third victim spent the most money. Using the same modus operandi, Eze managed to convince his victim to deposit R534 000 into bank accounts held by various people. In total, Eze swindled his victims out of R1 035 030.

Evidence before the court revealed that the money was transferred and withdrawn from bank accounts held by Yolanda Mange, R. Mapheelle, Hako XB, LC Sihepo, Global Shipping, LF Coe, O. Dlikilili and P. Mendrew, forming the basis for money laundering.

Senior State advocate Lucinda Mcani told the court that the offences committed by Eze contained elements of premeditation and argued that the offences were grave.

Eze was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for the 23 counts of fraud, four years of which are suspended for a period of five years on condition that he is not found guilty of fraud during this time.

He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for money laundering of which five years were suspended for five years on condition that he is not found guilty of money laundering during this time.

The court ordered his sentences to run concurrently, thus Eze will effectively serve six years in prison.

The court also declared Eze unfit to possession of firearm.

Suspected herdsmen kill five in fresh attack on Benue communities (photos)

Suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked four villages in Gwer-West local government area of Benue State and killed five persons.

It was gathered that three others including a pregnant woman were reportedly injured in the attack that happened in the early hours of Friday, April 30.

The armed herdsmen were said to have escaped with gunshot wounds after troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) trailed them to the Benue Nasarawa border and engaged them in a gun duel.

According to reports, the herdsmen first invaded Ahume Village along Makurdi/Naka Road but were dislodged by the troops who then stationed at the village to ward off a possible attack by the invaders.

One of the natives who identified himself as Fidelis told Tribune that while the troops were patrolling Ahume community, the herdsmen went further to Tse-Nyarei Village and started shooting in all direction killing five people and injuring others including a pregnant woman.

The native said that the five dead bodies have so far been recovered by security agencies, while three others including a pregnant woman were rescued alive with severe gunshot injuries even as many were said to still be missing.

Fidelis said that the dead bodies have been evacuated while the wounded were also taken to the hospital for treatment.

"There was a distress call that herdsmen attacked Ahume village along Makurdi-Naka road. As troops stationed in Kula village were alerted, the bandits ran to another village Tse Nyarei where they killed three people.," he said.

"Many others were injured. The soldiers followed and met the bandits at the river bank on the border between Benue and Nasarawa States where they exchanged fire with them. They however crossed the river and escaped into Nasarawa State.”

Daily Devotional for Saturday 1st May

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SATURDAY 1ST MAY.

ENTHRONED TO REIGN

For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17).

In Ephesians 2:6-7, the Bible says we’ve been raised up together, and made to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus; so that in the ages to come, God might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. The underlined portion actually means “ages following”; the ages following the sitting of Christ.

After the resurrection of Christ, He ascended to Heaven, sat on the throne, and a new age began. Now, we’re seated with Him. God enthroned us with Christ in the heavenly realms. So, the Scripture is telling us that He wants to demonstrate the exceeding riches of His grace to the Church in the successive ages following the enthronement; that’s now! It’s not in the future; it’s not during the Millennium or after the Millennium; it’s now!

Another important word to note in Ephesians 2:6-7 is “through,” in the phrase, “through Christ.” It’s translated from “en” (Greek), and it means “in.” We operate in the earth in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 3:21 says, “Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” It’s all happening here with us—the Church—not in heaven.

This is why we can’t fail. We’ve got to do everything He’s called us to do in this time. If we don’t recognize this reality, we won’t be able to take advantage of it, and suddenly, we’ll be in the Millennium. At the Millennium, we’ll reign with Christ, but now, we reign through Him. This is the time of the Church. If you don’t reign in Christ now, when are you going to fulfill it?

Use the authority He’s given you to dominate your world. This is your time. You’ve been enthroned to reign. You were born to exercise dominion over Satan and the circumstances of life! Whatever comes against you in life, take charge and reign over it through your faith declarations in the power of the Spirit. Praise God!

CONFESSION

Through the ministry of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, I’m trained in the way and life of righteousness, and equipped for greatness. I’ve received grace to reign over circumstances and walk in dominion over and above Satan and the elements of this world. I’m in charge, for I’m enthroned with Christ in the place of power and dominion. Hallelujah!

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN#

I affirm that God’s divine power is at work in me. Christ is my life, my sufficiency, wisdom, and righteousness. He’s made my life beautiful, fruitful, productive, and sound! I am a custodian of divine verities; money is a slave of my ideas.

I fill my mind daily with the Word of God, and as I do, my eyes are opened to see opportunities all around me. I am not ordinary; the Father has made me prosperous and effective; a blessing to this world, and a dispenser and distributor of His righteousness, love, kindness, and goodness.

All the wealth in this world belongs to me, for I am an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ. The silver and the gold are mine, including the cattle upon a thousand hills; thus, I refuse to be limited by anything in this world.

I am a free-flowing conduit of God’s wealth and blessings to others, and I am plugged to an unending supply. I rule and reign in this life,
independent of the financial systems of this world.

I am fulfilling God’s purpose and plan for my life, walking in paths that He’s arranged for me. He’s made all things I require for life and godliness available to me, and I celebrate the grace of prosperity and abundance that I enjoy as the seed of Abraham. Hallelujah!

The works of my hands are blessed and I am set on the path of permanent success and prosperity. I do not know when the heat comes, for I am fashioned to flourish like the cedar in Lebanon. Glory to God. Hallelujah!

God bless you

This is not 1967 – Fani-Kayode blasts Miyetti Allah for threatening Igbos

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has slammed the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, for threatening to launch attacks in the Southeast over the alleged killing of its members residing in the region.

DAILY POST had reported that the group, through its National Secretary, Engr. Saleh Alhassan, in a statement on Thursday, vowed that Nnamdi Kanu and the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB “will pay dearly for the mindless massacre” of not less than 50 herdsmen recently.

Reacting, the human rights lawyer, described the threat as disgusting, stressing that the fight would be different from the 1967 civil war, saying the Igbos are not alone in this.

Fani-Kayode stated this in a recent tweet on his verified Twitter handle Friday morning.

According to him, “Disgusted that Miyetti Allah threatened the lives of Igbos. This is not the way forward and does not augur well for peace, unity and national reconciliation.

“N.B. This is not 1967 and this time around the Igbos are not on their own.
“If you want peace reign in the killer herdsmen”.

Bala Mohammed: NNPC Zero Remittance To FAAC, Recipe For Crisis
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 04-30-2021, 10:14 AM - No Replies

Quote:Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, yesterday warned that Nigeria will be in chaos and financial hardship if the NNPC does not rethink its decision to make zero remittance to the Federation Account in April because of the need to defray the cost of petrol subsidy.

The NNPC had in a letter to the Accountant-General of the Federation warned that it would be unable to make any remittance to the central account of the federation for distribution in May because it needed to defray around N111 billion cost of February’s subsidy on petrol.

Reacting to the NNPC’s zero allocation notice, Mohammed said: “You have just heard that the NNPC said that they will not be able to give money to FAAC. I don’t know the amount of chaos that would cause because most of the states are depending on the Federation Account.”

He attributed the downturn in the economy to what he described as the cluelessness of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.

According to him, it is “because of the cluelessness and lack of capacity to manage the economy that we have found ourselves in this. There is even a blame game between the members of the party within the APC.”

Mohammed told reporters after the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja that the PDP, if given a chance in 2023, would not be arrogant with power.

“So, I think we are not going to be arrogant. We know the mistake we committed before and we have taken steps to correct them. We are presenting to Nigerians the better framework, better platform for them to really actualise their aspirations,” he said.

The Bauchi state governor said that the task before the PDP is to ensure unity within its rank ahead of the 2023 general election.

FG, States Urged to Prioritise Spending, Remove Petrol Subsidy

Meanwhile, analysts yesterday called on the federal, state and local governments to prioritise their spending and be more creative in generating internal revenue as a way of coping with the hard times heralded by dwindling revenue from the Federation Account.

The analysts, in separate interviews with THISDAY, also urged sub-national governments to defer expenditures that could be delayed till the revenue situation improves as well as to develop measures that would help boost internally generated revenue (IGR) in the states.

They spoke against the backdrop of a letter, dated April 26, 2021, by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, that it will not be able to remit any funds to the Federation Account in April for distribution in May, in a bid to recover about N120 billion spent on petrol subsidy.

The analysts called on states to look inwards and come up with ingenious plans to boost their revenues by encouraging more investments as well as creating an enabling environment for businesses.

They stated that the announcement by NNPC about not remitting revenue to the Federation Account was particularly “very worrisome.”

The Managing Director, Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, in his reaction, explained how petrol subsidy affects government’s revenue.

He said: “The truth is that what this points to is the fact that subsidy is a cost to the NNPC and a cost to the government and the bottom line is that when subsidies increase, the revenue available to run government’s activities is reducing. So, there is an inverse relationship between subsidy, the level of subsidy and the level of revenue available to the government.”

Managing Director/Chief Executive, Dignity Finance and Investment Limited, Dr. Chijioke Ekechukwu, said it was high time the government recognised the need to change fiscal allocation policy and allow the states to be self-sufficient and self-sustaining.

He said the development was an indication that the federal government needed to allow the pump price of petroleum products to be determined by demand and supply and “not by any meeting with the labour union.”

“But it is also a time for these governments to look inwards and harness other sources of revenue to cushion the effect,” added.

Similarly, President, Capital Market Academics of Nigeria, Prof. Uche Uwaleke, stated that austere times equally calls for cutting costs and reducing wastes in government spending.

He said the development should be of concern to Nigerians, especially civil servants at the state level as salaries would either be delayed or not paid, adding that a shortfall in projected revenue will also affect states’ capacity to pay contractors handling various projects.

Uwaleke said the situation would “adversely affect the distributable revenue for the months that NNPC is unable to remit money to the Federation Account due largely to rising under recovery costs or fuel subsidy.”

“This is because the NNPC is a major contributor to that pool. The others are the FIRS, Customs and to a little extent, Ministry of Solid minerals,” he added.

According to him, given the situation, state governments should reprioritise their spending and make salary payment a priority.

On his part, Managing Director/Chief Executive, SD&[Image: grin.png] Capital Management Limited, Mr. Idakolo Gbolade, said the non-remittance by NNPC would constrain the federal government to meet repayments of due obligations, including salaries, counterpart funding and debt repayments.

He said the states would also not be able to pay salaries and service local debts, adding that there will be increased insecurity of jobs and life, should the trend persist.

According to him, the states should look inwards and evolve ingenious plans to boost their revenue by encouraging more investments as well as create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

He added that the states should also energise the local economy by encouraging businesses, especially SMEs with incentives to increase their capacity.

In his contribution, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics, Pan-Atlantic University, Dr. Olalekan Aworinde, said printing of money as disclosed recently by the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, should not be considered.

“This issue of subsidy, I have always said is a fraud because there are a lot of people that would not bring in petrol products but are being paid subsidy claims. Oil as a matter of fact cannot solve our problem; there is the need for the government to diversify. There is a need to improve the state of infrastructure as well as the Ease of Doing Business in order to attract the much-needed foreign investors.

“The way out is for governments at all levels to be proactive. Nigeria is broke and a lot of people that are supposed to be paying taxes are not paying taxes. “We need to bring in a lot of people into the tax net and all of these require a lot of cooperation. There are only a few people that are paying taxes, while a lot of people are not.

“There are so many people that are working and earning incomes, but are evading taxes. Apart from that, there are lots of issues with our tax policies in this country and there are lots of loopholes in our tax policies,” Aworinde added.

The Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Muda Yusuf, said the unfolding scenario was troubling and described it as the consequences of the perpetuation of an unsustainable subsidy regime.

Yusuf said if the NNPC became incapacitated because of the burden of funding subsidy, the implications for states and local government would be dire.

He said: “The social and economic systems of many states and local governments would be at risk of complete collapse. The NNPC is a major source of funds into the Federation Account. Many states are about 70 to 80 per cent dependent on revenue allocations from the Federation Account.

“Infrastructure spending will suffer serious setbacks across all levels of government, payment of salaries will be at risk, fiscal deficit may escalate and debt sustainability issues will be aggravated.

“It is thus imperative to come up with a creative and innovative exit strategy from the subsidy regime. It is also important to address the fiscal federalism question to reduce the current high dependence of sub-nationals on the centre.”

Also, the Managing Director of BIC Consultancy Services Limited, Dr. Boniface Chizea, said the zero remittance from NNPC to the Federation Account in May would affect the three tiers of government to the extent that they are allowed to feel the shortfall.

Chizea said the only way the impact could be minimised was to borrow from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to make up the shortfall.

He said the fact that the NNPC contributed N 96.86 billion, N64.16 billion and N41.184 billion to the Federation Account in January, February and March respectively was sufficient alert for remedial steps to have been envisaged.

“A back of the envelope calculations gives the average contribution from the NNPC over the three months at about N60 billion. So, if this shortfall cannot be made up, we can assume that the states collectively would experience a shortfall of N60 billion in their allocation which could approximate to N1.5 billion allocation to beneficiary entities,” Chizea said.

He added that public servants would have a course to worry because state governments’ inability to pay salaries would worsen the hardship in the land and might precipitate macroeconomic instability.

Chizea said complete removal of subsidy was the only solution to forestall future recurrence.

“We have been on this matter for a very long time now. But the political will has been lacking to push this through. One of the first requirements for subsidy removal is that the major oil marketers will take over this responsibility for supplying petrol. There is a glimmer of hope for an end to the payment of subsidy from consideration of the fact that Dangote has 650,000 barrels a day refinery,” he said.

In his contribution, Managing Director of Cash Express Limited and a licensed Bureau De Change Operator, Mr. Josaphat Madueke, said the situation would affect the economy depending on the percentage of the NNPC’s contribution to the Federation Account and the amount of savings the government could fall back on.

Madueke said: “It means that the month of May may be tough for the foreign exchange market if it affects the ability of the CBN to fund the market. But, it is a bad omen, whichever way one looks at it.”

Bitumen reserves in the country have grown to about 42 billion barrels out of which 43 industrial chemicals, including heavy crude petroleum, can be obtained, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, said on Tuesday.

He added that despite the level of reserves, the country spends so much on the import of bitumen for road construction when the country has one of the largest deposits of bitumen natural sand in the world.

The minister said the Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) has already carried out research and development towards achieving fully paved roads using local bitumen.

He spoke in Abuja at the  NBRRI first virtual international conference with the theme: “Circular economy in the built environment for enhanced performance of the Nigerian construction industry.”

He said: “Nigeria has one of the largest deposits of bitumen natural sands in the world and it covers four states of Edo, Ondo, Ogun and Lagos. Nigeria spends so much on the importation of bitumen for our roads. With reduction in foreign exchange earnings for the nation, due to the drop in price of crude oil in the international market, there is the need to find alternative sources of bitumen as well as to encourage the use of concrete in road construction. Nigeria has one of the largest deposits of bitumen natural sands in the world.

“Nigeria’s bitumen deposit covers four states of Edo, Ondo, Ogun and Lagos. It is estimated that bitumen reserves cannot be less than 42 billion barrels, out of which 43 industrial chemicals, including heavy crude petroleum, can be obtained.

“I am happy that NBRRI has already carried out research and development efforts towards achieving fully paved roads using locally sourced bitumen. Its research efforts covered materials sourcing, laboratory characterisation and field trials of these materials. Though the trials are ongoing, the interim results are promising as bitumen samples collected locally are suitable for road construction based on comparison with international standards.

“It is also important, that NBRRI had done research on the use cement which is  produced from limestone and gypsum that are available in large quantities in the country for road construction.

NBRRI carried out research work on concrete roads, particularly in developing its Mix Design Manual which was carried out in collaboration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and other relevant stakeholders in the construction sector. The Mix Design Manual provides a step by step procedure for carrying out mixed designs for the various grades of concrete. Also, NBRRI has continuously carried out quality control testing of cement brands in Nigeria.”

NBRRI board chairman Hon. William Wandi said the construction industry has been identified as one of the fastest growing around the world and to maintain its impressive performance, it is imperative that the industry is repositioned so it continues to compete with its contemporaries globally.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has issued Dangote Cement Plc, tax credit certificates valued at ₦22.321billion.

The tax credit certificates are for construction of Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota road in Lagos and Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road straddling Kogi and Kwata states.

While Julius Berger is handling the construction of the two federal roads, Dangote Cement Plc is providing the funding.

To compensate Dangote Cement, the Federal Government has issued the company the certificates to cover for the tax that Dangote Cement would have paid.

Executive Chairman of the FIRS, Muhammad Nami, represented by Coordinating Director, Tax Operations Group, Mr. Femi Oluwaniyi, gave the clarification in Abuja on Wednesday when he presented the two tax credit certificates to Dangote Cement.

The tax credit certificates for the Apapa – Oworoshoki – Ojota expressway is valued at ₦21.6 billion while the tax credit certificate for the Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba expressway is valued at ₦721 million.

This is the second tax credit certificate the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) issued to Dangote for the Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road construction.

₦9.5billion tax credit certificate was in 2019 awarded to Dangote Cement Plc for the Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road.

Oluwaniyi said: “Government came to that reasoning that if we could encourage local investors to do the needful and of course under an agreement with some due monitoring and approvals then some of the monies they would have accrued back to government as taxes they would have paid.

“It will be in the interest of the government that other investors, business entrepreneurs, companies take advantage of this key initiative such that Nigeria can develop faster than government would have done alone”.

Insecurity: Fear in Bauchi over influx of people from neighbouring states, possible attack

on
 April 30, 2021

Despite being the gateway to the North-East region which has witnessed insurgency for over a decade now, leading to the death of over 200,000 people and about two million citizens displaced, particularly in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states, Bauchi State as of today enjoys relative peace, though the state also battles with its own form of insecurity, which, however, does not lead to extreme fear as experienced in other states.

Apart from a few pockets of Boko Haram attacks in the past, Bauchi has remained peaceful despite sharing its borders with Kaduna and Kano in the North West where banditry has taken deep roots, as well as Plateau State, where Fulani herders and farmers clash almost on a daily basis.

Multiple security sources confirmed to DAILY POST that despite its relative peace, some disgruntled elements still give security agencies some cause for concern in the state, saying, however, that for now, efforts are being geared towards tackling this with a view to sustaining the peace in the state.

One of the sources confided in DAILY POST that security operatives are working round the clock with a view to ensuring that bandits do not infiltrate the state in their numbers, especially with the heat being turned on them in North-West. According to the source, there are some pockets of bandits’ activities, including cattle rustling, being witnessed in some places, including in Burra forest, Gwaram, Toro and Alkaleri areas of the state, but they are being tackled head long by security agencies.

Recently, the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Sylvester Alabi, while briefing the press on efforts being made to combat crimes and criminality in the state, informed that the state police command arrested some cattle rustlers, armed robbers, kidnappers and bandits terrorizing parts of the state and recovered some items, including arms and ammunitions from the criminal elements.

According to CP Alabi, a kidnap suspect who ran from Safana, Katsina State was arrested in Narbodo in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State where he ran to, after committing kidnapping, adding that a notorious cattle rustler in Safana LGA of Katsina State was also arrested in Guggu forest where he was taking refuge.

He informed that joint task force operatives collaborating with a vigilante group, Danga Security personnel while on patrol along Riga forest base 1 at Duguri Gwana area of Alkaleri Local Government Area (LGA), ran into an assembly of some dangerously armed bandits and kidnappers, notoriously known for terrorizing the Duguri area.

“This encounter resulted in a heavy gun battle between our men and the criminals which led to the killing of two of the unknown armed bandits, while others escaped with bullet wounds,” the police boss had said, adding that an AK-47 rifle with breach No.357843, a locally made single barrel gun, sixteen (16) live ammunition of 7.62mm calibre, two cutlasses and a knife, large number of bows and arrows were parts of the exhibits recovered from the scene.

An operative of the Department of State Services (DSS), who pleaded to remain anonymous as he is not authorized to speak to the press, informed DAILY POST that despite the fact that Bauchi State is not experiencing any activities of Boko Haram, as being witnessed in other parts of the North-East, security personnel were not resting on their oars in order to secure lives and property of the people of the state.

According to him, “we are working round the clock to tame kidnapping, banditry and cattle rustling here before they become a big monster in the state. Fortunately for us – security agencies, the state government has been supporting us in no small measure to aid our jobs.”

Speaking on the security situation in the state, a retired Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officer, Air Commodore Ahmed Tijjani Baba Gamawa (rtd), in an interview with DAILY POST expressed happiness that Bauchi State is peaceful despite being in the North-East, submitting that, “in Bauchi, we are very lucky; lucky in the sense that in the whole of North-East region, it is only Bauchi that is peaceful. If you see what is happening in Maiduguri, what is happening in Yobe, what is happening in Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa, you will see that those of us in Bauchi are very lucky.”

He attributed what he termed the proactive action of the state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, being responsible for the peace being enjoyed in the state. “He (Govenor Mohammed) is always in contact with security agencies, giving them all the help they need. If you remember, about three days ago, the governor gave about 50 vehicles to security agencies to enhance the security situation in the State. Bauchi is a free zone when it comes to security issue,” he said.

The retired NAF personnel informed that despite some bandits’ activities in some part of the state, the synergy among security agencies in the state had immensely helped in tackling the menace, adding that security agencies were on top of the situation in the state.

“They are always working day and night. Because of their commitment, dedication and loyalty, the governor is very impressed. He has to give them vehicles with gadgets and everything so that it would assist them for the work they are doing. As a result of that, there is that kind of cooperation between them and they have very good information gathering, which is very important to fight insurgency and banditry. So in Bauchi, we are very lucky. We work as a team, as a family. As a result of that, Bauchi State has a very good security network.”

A civil servant working with the Federal Government in the state, who simply identified himself as Abubakar, while commending efforts being made by the government in ensuring Bauchi State remains peaceful, called for more efforts and vigilance, particularly on the part of residents of the state, noting that, “while the state government is making efforts to sustain peace in the state, the people also have a role to play. We have to supply useful information to security agencies for them to take prompt and timely actions to prevent security breach.”

”As a result of its peaceful nature, there have been the influx of people from the North-West and neighbouring North-East states into Bauchi State.

This is with its attendant negative impact on the State with Governor Mohammed recently lamenting that the influx of people from neighbouring states into the state from states has overstretched the state’s infrastructures. He, however, said despite this, his administration could not afford to compromise the security of lives and property of the people of the state.

“Our population has risen from the official record of 6.5 million to about 10 million in Bauchi, thereby, overstretching our services and infrastructures.

“We have the highest number of out-of-school children, therefore, there is unemployment, youth restiveness and of course, there are infrastructure and service gaps in health, in education and even in our transportation and the rest. There is high expectation from the polity, thereby overstretching our security agencies,” he said.

Residents of Kanamma in Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State are currently taking refuge in the bush as they fled their homes following an ongoing attack by Boko Haram militants.

This is coming barely 24 hours after reports claimed that the Boko Haram spiritual leader, Abubakar Shekau had appointed a new War Commander.
Kanamma is about 200klm from Damturu, the Yobe State capital in northeast Nigeria. It is also the birthplace of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

According to residents, prior to the attack, the community saw some Boko Haram fighters but could not report due to fear.

ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Yobe Police Command Damaturu confirmed the attack to DAILY POST.

He said, there was a Boko Haram insurgents attack on Kanamma, but unfortunately, they lost contact with Police in Kanamma due to the absence of mobile network in the area.

“We will update you when we reach out to them,” he said.

Insecurity: Why US May Not Heed Buhari’s Call For Assistance — Falana
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 04-30-2021, 07:46 AM - No Replies

Quote:Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, says the regime of the President. Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) may be giving false impression that the Joe Biden administration will send United States troops to defend Nigerians.

The lawyer said rather than give the false impression, the Federal Government of Nigeria should embark on mass recruitment of military and police personnel, equip and motivate them to defend every part of the country.

Falana stated this on Thursday in a paper he presented at a public lecture to mark the 80th birthday of an academic, Prof Omotoye Olorode, in Abuja.

The paper was titled, ‘Labour And The Quest For Nigeria’s Development: Reflections And Prognosis On The Way Forward’.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that Buhari on Tuesday sought foreign help to put a stop to the ceaseless bloodshed and kidnappings nationwide.

The former military head asked the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, for the support of the Biden administration to tackle the security menace in Nigeria.

Buhari, who warned of a likely spill over of insecurity to neighbouring West African states, also called on the US to consider relocating US Africa Command from Stuttgart, Germany, to Africa, nearer the Theatre of Operation.

Speaking Thursday on the request for help by the Buhari government, Falana said the government should strengthen the security forces and not wait for US support which may likely not come.

The senior advocate said, “Regrettably, Nigeria is currently witnessing the virtual collapse of the security architecture of the neocolonial State due to the diversion of the huge fund earmarked for procurement of arms and ammunition for the armed forces and the police by successive regimes.

“To prevent terrorists and bandits from sacking the government, President Buhari has appealed to President Joe Biden to come to the aid the ruling class in waging war against terror and banditry.

And without consulting either the African Union or the ECOWAS the federal government has asked President Biden to relocate the US African Command (AFRICOM) in Germany to Africa.

“Since 2009, the cry for help in prosecuting the counter insurgency operations had fallen on the deaf ears of the leaders of the West. As if that was not enough, the United States and her allies prevented Nigeria from acquiring vital security equipment to prosecute the war on terror due to the abysmal poor human rights record of the armed forces and the police.

“Even though the Buhari administration was allowed to pay the sum of $329 million for 12 super Tucanofighter jets in November 2018 to aid the counter insurgency operations in the North East Zone the jets have not been delivered.

“Instead of giving Nigerians the false impression that the United States is going to send troops to defend them the federal government should be compelled to embark on mass recruitment of military and police personnel, equip and motivate them to defend every part of the country.

In addition, all state and local governments should proceed to set up defence committees constituted by young men and women in every community to collaborate with the Police in securing the lives and properties of all citizens.”

Nigeria’s Debt Stock To Hit ₦34 Trillion With New Loans
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 04-30-2021, 07:44 AM - No Replies

Quote:The total debt stock for Nigeria could rise from N33 trillion to N34tr soon as the National Assembly approves another N1.1tr external loan request for the federal government.

The House of Representatives yesterday approved the external loan of $1.5 billion (about N571.5bn) and €995 million (about N528.4bn) for the federal government while the Senate had approved the request last week.

The Debt Management Office (DMO) had in March 2021 placed Nigeria’s Public debt at N32.915tr as of December 31, 2020. This included the debt stock of the federal and state governments as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“Total Public Debt to Gross Domestic Product as at December 31, 2020 was 21.61 percent, which is within Nigeria’s new limit of 40 percent.”

According to the recommendations made in a report submitted to the House by the House Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management presented to the House during plenary on Thursday, the loans are to be sourced from the World Bank and Export-Import Bank of Brazil which will be used for various purposes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic effects.

Presenting the report, Ahmed Safana Dayyabu stated that, the loans are to be used in financing priority projects of the federal government.

“The Committee notes that while Nigeria’s Total Public Debt Stock is on the increase, it is still relatively low Vis-a-Vis the country’s GDP and the increased borrowing requirements is needed to sustain the economic recovery,” he added.

Commenting, a former President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tony Ejinkeonye, called on the federal government to judiciously utilise the fresh external loans approved on Thursday by the House of Representatives.

Ejinkeonye, who is currently the Business Development Director Africa, esilkroad Network, told Daily Trust that already the nation’s debt burden is high.

He called for alternative means of generating revenues instead of the constant borrowing.

“We have to develop our industries. We need to develop critical infrastructure that will bring revenues to the country,” he advised, including expanding tax net.

Nigeria Reduced Gas Flaring By 70% Over The Past 15 Years - World Bank
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 04-30-2021, 07:43 AM - No Replies

Quote:Nigeria alongside Russia, Iraq, Iran, United States, Algeria and Venezuela are the top gas flaring countries in the world, according to a report by the World Bank.

2020 was an unprecedented year for the oil and gas industry and a historic time for the world. The COVID-19 pandemic dampened oil demand, prices and production, while oil-dependent countries experienced negative impacts on their revenues and national budgets.

The World Bank’s 2020 Global Gas Flaring Tracker, a leading global and independent indicator of gas flaring, found that from 2019 to 2020, oil production declined by 8 percent, while gas flaring dropped by 5 percent. Nonetheless, the world still flared enough gas to power sub-Saharan Africa.

7 countries account for two-thirds of global gas flaring

The United States accounted for 70% of the global decline, with gas flaring falling by 32% from 2019 to 2020, due to an 8% drop in oil production, combined with new infrastructure to use gas that would otherwise be flared.

Seven countries continue to light up the global map, year after year: Russia, Iraq, Iran, the United States, Algeria, Venezuela and Nigeria have been the largest flaring countries for nine years running since the first satellite was launched in 2012.

While these seven countries have together produced some 40 percent of the world’s oil each year, they have also accounted for roughly two-thirds (65 percent) of global gas flaring. This trend is indicative of ongoing, though differing, challenges facing these countries.

For example, the United States has thousands of individual flare sites, difficult to connect to a market, while a few high flaring oil fields in East Siberia in the Russian Federation are extremely remote, lacking the infrastructure to capture and transport the associated gas.

Demetrios Papathanasiou, global director for the energy and extractives global practice at the World Bank, commented:

We do see some marked improvements in a variety of regions and contexts. The United States performed particularly well in 2020, with gas flaring falling by 32 percent from 2019 to 2020, partly due to an 8 percent drop in oil production, but also through the construction of infrastructure to use gas that would otherwise be flared.

The United States’ reduction accounted for 70 percent or 5.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of the global decline.

Meanwhile, Nigeria and the greater Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (KMAO) region of Russia have both achieved significant progress over the past 15 years, with Nigeria reducing its gas flaring by 70 percent to just 7 bcm in 2020, and KMAO reducing its gas flaring volumes by nearly 80 percent, to just over 4 bcm.

More Trouble For Nigeria As Fuel Subsidy Wipes Off Oil Revenue
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 04-30-2021, 07:42 AM - No Replies

-The announcement by the NNPC will have telling consequences for the nation's economy.

Quote:More trouble for Nigeria as fuel subsidy wipes off oil revenueThe announcement by the NNPC will have telling consequences for the nation's economy.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said that it will remit nothing into the federation account in the month of May due to costs incurred from subsidy payments on petrol.

The NNPC made this known in a letter written to the Accountant-General of the Federation, where it explained that it recorded a value shortfall of N111bn in February 2021.

The shortfall, the NNPC said, will affect its contributions to federal allocations to states for April and May.

The announcement will have telling consequences for the nation’s economy. Nigeria relies on oil receipts for most of its monthly expenses including workers’ salaries.

The national oil company said the decision becomes necessary in order to bridge the gap between the landing cost and ex-costal price of petrol, ensure the continuous supply of petroleum products to the nation, and guarantee energy security.

The letter, seen by PREMIUM TIMES, was dated April 26 and signed by NNPC Chief Financial Officer, Umar Isa. Those copied in the letter include the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning; the Director General, Nigeria Governors Forum; the Director Home Finance; and the Chairman, Commissioners of Finance Forum.

“The Accountant General of the Federation is kindly invited to note that the average landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for the month of March 2021 was N184 per litre as against the subsisting ex-coastal price of N128 per litre, which has remained constant notwithstanding the changes in the macroeconomics variables affecting petroleum products pricing,” the NNPC said.

“As the discussions between Government and the Labour are yet to be concluded, NNPC recorded a value short fall of N111,966,456,903.74 in February 2021 as a result of the difference highlighted above. Accordingly, a projection of remittance to the Federation for the next three months is presented in the attached schedule.

“Accordingly, the AGF is invited to note that the sum of N111,966,456,903.74 will be deducted from April 2021 Oil and Gas Proceeds due to the Federation in May 2021, which will translate to zero remittance to the Federation Account from NNPC in the month of May 2021.”

NNPC remittances form a major part of revenues shared at the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meetings in Abuja.

Controversial FAAC

In recent years, allocations to states have always dwindled amid slump in oil revenue and disruption in the global oil market, with FAAC meetings always ending in a stalemate.

Since the coronavirus disrupted global economy and reduced oil revenues, the sharing of revenues among state and federal governments at FAAC has always been steeped in controversies.

Earlier in the month,Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, alleged that the government had to print an extra N60bn in March due to shortfall in FAAC allocation to states. The CBN and the Finance Ministry, however, dismissed the claim.

The new development would likely shape proceedings and deliberations at the next FAAC meeting, as state governments scramble to settle overheads and fix infrastructure.

Subsidy

The payment of subsidy has been a controversial subject in the management of Nigeria’s oil resources in the last decade. While many Nigerians have called for its removal in order to enable the government invest the fund into other developmental projects, others have condemned such calls, citing it as perhaps one of the few “benefits” the masses enjoy from the government.

Some pressure groups, such as the organised labour, have advised the government to fix the refineries before removing fuel subsidy.

In March, a PREMIUM TIMES analysis showed that the nation may be expending a whopping N102.5 billion monthly to reduce the retail cost of petrol monthly. The NNPC in a subsequent press statement confirmed the projection.

A study supported by the British government estimated that Nigeria spent N10 trillion on subsidies from 2006 to 2018, more than the budgets for health, education or defence.

Millions of Nigerians use petrol to power their vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles. In the midst of poor electricity supply, others power their generators with petrol.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES,

FRIDAY 30TH APRIL 2021

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

TOPIC: KEEP YOUR BODY IN HEALTH WITH YOUR WORDS

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you (Romans 8:11).

When you’re born again, you have a new life. That life affects your whole spirit, soul and body. Our theme verse says if the Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, that same Spirit shall vitalize (make alive) your mortal body. This already happened, because the Spirit lives in you now.
Many aren’t experiencing this reality of the Word of God in their lives because they’re not acting on the Word. Even if you were born again fifty years ago, if you don’t understand this truth, you’ll be subject to the elements of this world; dominated by headaches, fever, diabetes and all manner of sickness and disease.

Don’t go through what spiritual slaves go through; come to a place in your life where you say, “Enough is enough; I refuse to be sick.” Learn to exercise authority over your body. If you can’t exercise authority over your body, how are you going to exercise it over cities and nations? Your body is the first place to practise authority.

If you feel the symptoms of sickness in your body, say, “No! A thousand times no! I’ve got the Spirit of God in me! I’ve got the life of God in me! I’ve got the strength of God in me, from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet! I’m healthy and sound! My body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, and no sickness, disease or infirmity can thrive therein! Hallelujah!”

Use your mouth. Speak words of healing and health over your body. As you speak, don’t let Satan deceive you that nothing is happening. Everything you say will happen! You can mend your heart; you can mend your lungs; you can mend your kidneys! Talk to your skin, your bones, your blood, and keep them in health. Glory to God!

CONFESSION

My body is the temple of the Holy Ghost; I refuse to allow anything dominate me. I keep my body in subjection to the Word of God! Anything that’s not consistent with the Word of God for my life isn’t permitted in my body! I walk in divine health continually. Glory to God!

FURTHER STUDY

Proverbs 4:20-22 NIV
My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. 21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body.

1 Corinthians 3:16
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

3 John 1:2
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

A Japanese woman was arrested on Wednesday, April 28, for allegedly killing her millionaire husband.

Saki Sudo, 25, was charged for the alleged poisoning of 77-year-old Kosuke Nozaki in 2018, three months into their marriage, according to the Japan Times.

Sudo allegedly injected the real estate titan with a poison, according to the article. She reportedly had dinner with Nozaki before his death, and police said she researched the deadly posion found in his system on the internet.

Nozaki had became notorious for publishing the 2016 book, "Don Juan of Kishu: The Man Who Gave ¥3 Billion to 4,000 Beautiful Women".

His suspicious death had attracted attention for years.

Sudo stood to inherit a portion of his assets, the Japan Times said.

In a 2018 book, Nozaki wrote that he met a woman, believed to be Sudo, when she helped him after he fell down at a Tokyo airport, according to the report.

Sudo reportedly told her family that she was moving from Sapporo to work at her friend’s real estate business, but did not reveal she was married.

Three months into their marriage, Nozaki was found dead.

Saki Sudo, was arrested Wednesday, April 28, for allegedly poisoning Kosuke Nozaki three years ago.

We will never develop or progress with the level of corruption in this country - Ganduje

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has decried the level of corruption in the country which according to him, won't lead to development or progress.

In his speect at the inauguration of an eight-man Anti-Corruption Strategy Steering Committee on Thursday April 29, Ganduje who was represented at the event by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the Secretary to the State Government, said the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) is doing its job without interference because it has been strengthened.

The Kano state Governor also said that the state government had accorded all necessary support to PCACC in the fight against graft.

He said;

Quote:“Believe me, we don’t need to say that corruption in this country is killing all of us. The truth of the matter is that we will never develop or progress with this level of corruption in this country.

“I want to say that this committee is one of the most important committees we will inaugurate. My reason is that this organisation has a dual role and responsibility.

“Its first role is of course public complaints. That means, people with some complaints could lodge it at the commission, get it sorted out and resolved amicably. This is not what you can call a crime.

“On the other hand, anti-corruption is of course a fight against crime, which means, the double role should not be misconstrued or lost, that is the fight against a crime.

“So, I urge the committee to bring out the strategies whereby the people of Kano State would have the benefit of hope to complain when the need arises, and get amicable settlement.

“Whether it is against the government or government officials, the complaints could be looked into and sorted out."

I am angered, troubled by terror attacks in Nigeria – Bola Tinubu

National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Thursday April 29, said he is angered and troubled by terror attacks in different parts of the country.

Tinubu, in series of tweets, lamented that the attacks had caused many to disparage the military and security forces. He pointed out that as Nigerians, we must never surrender to the fearful temptation to blame one another

His tweets read

Quote:''Like all decent Nigerians, I am angered and troubled by the terror and cruelty being visited upon the people of Borno, Yobe, Benue, Niger, Imo and other parts of the nation.

These attacks have caused many to disparage our military and security forces. This we must not do. Valiant men and women serve in our security forces, risking their lives to protect us.

We stand with them. Government also must continue to encourage the security forces to do their utmost to subdue this threat. The lives of innocent Nigerians and the future progress of the nation may lie in the balance.

As a people, we must never surrender to the fearful temptation to blame one another. Regardless of region or religion, we must unite against a common foe. Discord will only invite defeat.

The enemy’s attacks seem to focus on our schools, religious institutions and security forces. They seek to extinguish the light of knowledge and hope by shrouding us in the darkness of fear and brutal ordeal.

We must not tremble. They will be vanquished. In the end, tolerance, justice and compassion shall win the day.''

We Will Avenge Death Of Every Herdsman Killed In South-East By IPOB - Miyetti Allah T

Quote:We’ll Avenge Death Of Every Herdsman Killed In South-East By Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB, Miyetti Allah Threatens.

One of the umbrella bodies of herdsmen in Nigeria, the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has urged security agencies to deal with “terrorists killing” Fulani herders in the South-East.

Spokesman for the group, Saleh Alhassan, disclosed this while reacting to the killing of one of the commanders of Indigenous People of Biafra gunned down by security operatives last Saturday.

Police operatives and their counterparts from the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services had killed an IPOB leader, one Commander Ikonso and six other militia members in Imo state.

The IPOB men, who were members of the secessionist group’s security arm, the Eastern Security Network, were killed during an early morning raid on their hideout at Awomama village, Oru East Local Government Area of the state last week.

IPOB has since threatened “madness”, saying the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, will “pay dearly” for the killing of its commander.

But speaking on Thursday to Punch, the Miyetti Allah spokesman lauded the security agencies, adding that they should “intensify efforts” in dealing with all terrorist elements in the country.

He said, “The security agencies should intensify efforts in dealing with all those terrorists killing Fulani herders, burning police stations, prisons and destroying institutions in the South-East.”

Alhassan said at least 50 herders have been killed in the South-East in the last one month, adding that his group would avenge the death of those members.

He said, “So far, more than 50 herders have been killed in the South-East in the last one month, we have the record and the Igbo terrorists led by Nnamdi Kanu will pay for everybody they killed.

“It is unfortunate that they have forgotten history, how we saved a lot of Igbos in the North during the Civil War but now they are killing our people. They are making a grievous mistake. We will take necessary steps, both legal and cultural steps, to avenge the killings of our members.

Insecurity: Nigeria seriously needs divine intervention – Gov Badaru

The Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has said the country is in dire need of God’s intervention.

The Governor made the call while addressing the council of ulama during a courtesy call on him at the state Government House in Dutse, the state capital.

He made the statement while reacting to the rising insecurity across the country.

DAILY POST reported that the Boko Haram insurgents have captured many towns in Yobe, Borno and Niger states.

According to the Governor, “Nigeria now needs divine intervention more than ever as the security situation worsens in all parts of the country in recent times.

“Ramadan period is a time when Allah Subhanahu wata’ala accepts prayers and as we battle with many challenges in the country, we must turn to God and pray hard for peace to reign in the nation.”

He urged the council of ulama and citizens to pray for the end of insecurity in the country.

APC leaders agree Buhari has failed – Timi Frank

on
 April 29, 2021

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari and his government for the insecurity in Nigeria.

He said APC leaders such as Governors “were also lamenting the seizure of communities by insurgents while senators of the party were crying out that the country is on fire and that Buhari has failed”.

Frank urged the United States, the United Kingdom, United Nations, and European Union to assist Nigeria overcome its challenges.

In a statement on Thursday, Frank lamented that insecurity had reached an alarming proportion which required immediate assistance from friendly developed countries.

He said it was now clear that the raging inferno devouring the country is a function of Buhari and APC’s insensitivity, ineptness, corruption and gross inability to keep Nigeria safe.
Frank further blamed insecurity on the leadership of the security agencies, saying they “stink of corruption, incompetence, negligence and cluelessness.”

He said the current upsurge in killings and annexation of Nigerian territories by Boko Haram has put a lie to the propaganda of Buhari’s administration that the country is winning the war on terror.

Frank noted that Nigerians no longer hear of only Boko Haram terrorists’ killings in the North-East but other regions.

He condemned murder cases in the South and West “being perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen whom the government has refused to proscribe and tag a terrorist organization”.

Frank condemned the Buhari administration for referring to murderous herdsmen as ‘bandits’.
“Look at the massacre in Benue State? What crime did the murdered IDP camp residents commit other than that they are innocent Nigerians?

“What about the abducted students of Greenfield University in Kaduna State who are being serially murdered by their abductors?

“What about the killing spree in Mainok, Damaturu-Maiduguri highway? There are ongoing killings and kidnapping in Osun, Abia, Anambra, Imo States and every part of the country. Where is safe?

“We were recently confronted with a sad reality that Boko Haram terrorists have seized and hoisted flags in over 42 communities in Niger State, which is just a stone throw from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

“This shows that the territorial integrity of this country, under Buhari, has gone to the mud. Otherwise, how can terrorists seize and hoist flags in any part of a country where there is a government?”, Frank asked.

On Wednesday, the House inaugurated a special ad-hoc committee, chaired by the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila. The committee will organise a security summit between May 24 and 28.

Mr Bagos said if the summit fails to yield the needed changes, the lawmakers will call for the resignation of the president or impeach him.

“After this last resort with this summit, if nothing is done by the executive, after some months, we will call for the resignation of the president. We have the power to impeach the president.

“…. So this is like the last resort, we are taking it seriously. We know the discussion we had to make. We know how members were being talked to.”

He added that “We can assure Nigerians that this summit, the National Assembly will hit the gavel and tell the president if he cannot protect lives of Nigerians, he should let someone else do it”

On Tuesday, the House had an executive session during which 12 resolutions were reached including organising the summit.

It is unclear if Mr Bagos’ statement has the broad support of the lawmakers. The ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), controls both chambers of the National Assembly.

The president has called the bluff of the House in previous attempts to hold him accountable for general insecurity in the country, including an invitation by the House in the aftermath of the Zabarmari killings in 2020. He had said he would attend the summon by the lawmakers but later refused to.

As the security situation in the country worsens, PREMIUM TIMES reported that in the second week of April, over 239 people were killed and 44 kidnapped. Furthermore, states like Niger and Yobe have seen an increase in terrorists taking over territories.

Boycott The Platform' Trends To Protest El-Rufai's Inclusion

The Platform is a popular discussion series that is hosted by the Covenant Christian Center. It is usually held during public holidays such as Independence Day and May Day. The next event is scheduled to hold on May 1st, 2021, but it has been hit by protests online as some people object to the inclusion of the governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai in a panel to discuss devolution of powers in Nigeria.

The protesters allege that Governor El-Rufai is a bigot and ethnic jingoist and they are calling on people to boycott the event.

In August 2020 the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) withdrew an invitation that it had extended to Governor El-Rufai to speak at it's annual conference after people called for a boycott of the conference.

Woman’s Arm Amputated After Her Husband Butchered Her Over 'Infidelity' (Graphic)

Woman’s arm amputated after her husband allegedly butchered her arm and leg because he suspected her of infidelity (Graphic photos)

A woman has narrated how her husband, who she claims she has caught cheating many times on their matrimonial bed, butchered her because he suspected her of cheating.

Roselyne Victory O’Neill now has one arm after her left arm was amputated following attempts by her husband to stab her on her chest.

Narrating her story on Facebook, She alleged that she caught her husband cheating multiple times during courtship but she forgave him.

They married on November 24, 2018, after both checking their HIV status and submitting negative reports.

However, she claims that into the marriage, she discovered he has tested HIV positive since 2017 yet concealed the information from her.

She said she confronted him about it and he told her he owes her no explanation.

Subsequently, she took herself and their baby boy for HIV test, forgave her husband, and remained in the marriage.

Roselyne, who has a food stand in Cultural Centre Field, Calabar, said her life changed on Dec 27, 2020. She woke early that Sunday and went about her business to fend for herself, as she claims her husband spends his money on women and she’s left to cater for her needs on her own.

Since it was the festive season and most of her workers travelled for the Christmas break, she had a lot of work on her hands.

While selling food to people who returned for the Christmas holiday, she said a customer came in and she recognized him as an old friend from school. They hugged, chatted briefly, then she went about serving her other customers.

Because it was a busy day for business, she sold food till 11pm. She explained that she was too tired and sleepy by the time she was done so she called the driver who usually takes her back home but he wasn’t picking.

Her old classmate, who was still on the field with other revelers, tried to help her order a cab online but she said the cost was too expensive, so she just arranged chairs and decided to sleep at her stand that night.

She explained that this is not unusual during festive seasons and there were others also staying over at the field.

She slept off immediately and woke the next morning to shouts from her husband calling her a “prostitute” and other names.

She said that before she could defend herself, he brought out something she thought was a belt and aimed it at her chest. She blocked with her arm and that’s when she discovered it was not a belt but a knife.

He struck her arm three times before people in the field attempted to stop him.

Angered that he could not stab her on her chest, she said he then started stabbing her leg.

She lost consciousness and was then rushed to the hospital where she underwent 3 surgeries.

Her arm became infected due to the knife used to inflict the injury and had to be amputated.

She revealed that even while she was in the hospital, she discovered her husband was busy seeing other women and wouldn’t provide the full money needed for her treatment.

She says she’s done with the marriage and now calls him her “ex-husband”.

The case is in court.

Gunmen assassinate Lagos socialite, Rasaq Jikoji

Unknown gunmen have killed 60-year-old Lagos socialite and businessman, Chief Adeola Razaq Jikoji.

Jikoji was shot dead in front of his house at Jikoli Court, Unity estate, Badore, Ajah area of Lagos on Sunday, April 26.

It was gathered that the assailants stormed the area in a tricycle around 3pm while the deceased was driving into the estate in the company of one of his relatives.

Vanguard reported that the incident occurred a few days after he alerted policemen at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, that some persons were after his life.

The late businessman was nominated as the traditional ruler of Badore, by the Jikoji family, after the demise of the former Baale, Saliu Muraina Jikoji, in June 2020.  His name, according to his family, was forwarded to the Lagos State Government accompanied by a certificate of nomination by the family.

However, trouble erupted after another candidate said to have been nominated by some group of persons who claimed to be Kingmakers, was allegedly granted a certificate by the Eti-Osa Local Government, as the Baale of Badore, without authorization from the State government.

Lawyer to the deceased, Olarewaju Aiyedun, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the matter was before Justice Alakija of the Lagos High Court sitting in TBS, where they obtained the order to maintain the Status Quo Ante Bellum, which infuriated his opponents.

“I received the lugubrious news of the brutal and brutish assassination of my client, Chief Rasak Adeola Jikoji, the Baale-elect of Badoore Town, Ajah, with a scathing rude shock that I have not recovered from in the last 72 hours. He was shot at a very close range and they took a heavy stone to hit his head, just to ensure he was dead, to satisfy their paymasters. This callous, criminal, satanic and vile act will not go unpunished," Aiyedun stated,"

"I have absolute trust and unflagging confidence in the professional competence and impervious integrity of the Police to unmask the murderers and bring the marauding and cannibalistic agents of untimely death to the book”, he added.

His widow, Mrs Tofunmi Jikoji, said said he had many enemies and recently got a favourable ruling in a chieftaincy title tussle

"I was in the kitchen when I was called. I ran out and saw the lifeless body of my husband who left the house 15 minutes earlier, with a promise to be back soon," she narrated.

"On that Sunday, some people who wanted to buy a piece of land came to visit him. He took them to the site but the person did not like the land. About 15 to 20 minutes later, as he was returning home, some residents said they sighted some strange faces around the community. I don’t know why the security guards did not challenge them.

“As he approached the house, he was attacked. The vehicle fell into a ditch. We were told that the people who did the job came in a Keke Marwa. I heard the gunshots. One of the assailants asked him ‘so you want to be the baale’, before he was shot. Not done, they used a rock to scatter his head to be sure he was dead.

“I don’t know who to particularly point to. But he had several enemies. He was actively involved in a chieftaincy title tussle and he got a favourable ruling recently. Even if he offended anyone, he should not be murdered”, she stated in tears.

Family sources said that the incident had been reported at the Lagbansa division. The deceased’s relative who was with him in the car at the time of the incident was said to have gone into hiding, for fear of being attacked.

The relative was said to have insisted the matter be taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yaba, before he would appear and state how his brother was murdered.

Teenagers record sick moment they kick pensioner, 74, into river

A gang of teenage thugs recorded the shocking moment they kicked a pensioner into a river before fleeing the scene.

The 74-year-old man was targeted by teenagers as he stood by the River Mersey in Warrington, Cheshire, on Sunday, April 25.

In the sickening video, a teenager sneaks up behind the elderly man and kicks him into the water.

Officers said two or three youths were involved and they ran away laughing.

The elderly man banged his head and sustained a cut to his face before having to walk home alone in "freezing cold".

Two women pulled him out of the water and police officers have since launched an investigation, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Sergeant Mark Spaven, of Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: "This was a shocking and upsetting incident which has understandably left the gentleman shaken.

"He returned home freezing cold and had sustained a cut to his face due to banging his head as he fell into the water.

"We are determined to find those responsible and I am urging anyone who has any information or believes they know who did this to come forward.

"I also want to appeal to the two women who thankfully came to his rescue to please get in touch with us as you could have information which could help our investigation."

Merseyside Police later confirmed a 15-year-old boy had been arrested in relation to the incident.

One of the students at the school was heard saying: 'Oh my God' and cringes as her teacher canoodles with his wife.

Mr. Parras was forced to apologise after the blunder.

He said: 'Some images were recorded while my wife came in to greet me that have gone viral on the web.

'Of course it was a mistake of mine, as I didn't realise the camera was still switched on at the end of class.

'At no moment did I do this deliberately. It was accidental.

'I want to apologise for causing offence.'

Headteacher Patricia Duran Cespedes has launched an investigation into the incident.

She said: 'This was a serious matter in which the teacher in charge of the class performed an inappropriate act which was recorded by some students.

'And was later viralized on social media.'

One viewer - called Lapaty - joked: 'It looks like his wife isn't enjoying the breast sucking very much. Poor bloke, now all the world knows his wife is barely interested.'

Pipe Dorado added: 'I feel sad looking at his wife's face. There's no feeling at all in her body. Or does the prof need a lesson in breast sucking?'

Body of one of four missing Kenyan friends found in mortuary ten days after they mysteriously disappeared

One of the four close friends who went missing in Kenya has been found dead ten days after they mysteriously disappeared.

Jack Anyango,37, Elijah Obuong, 35, Benjamin Amache Imbai, 30, and Brian Oduor,36, vanished into thing air after sharing a lunch of nyama choma (roasted meat) and drinks at a local pub in Kitengela on April 19,2021.

Their car, a white Toyota Mark X, was found andandoned at a parking lot about 500 metres from the the club the following day.

The body of Elijah Obuong was found in a morgue in Murang’a County on Thursday, April 29. It was identified by the deceased’s younger brother Michael Amollo at around 10:40am, who said the body had no visible injuries.

                                                         Elijah Obuong
Authorities in the county told the family and members of the press that the body was spotted by sand harvesters near Mukungai River along the Murang’a-Iyego-Kangema road on April 20.

On the day they went missing, the men were spotted arriving at the joint where they enjoyed their meal and drinks. They soon left the club at around 3PM and headed to the parking lot where a Toyota Mark X was parked. That was the last time they were seen and their phones have not been going through.

A search for the three remaining friends by authorities and distressed family members is ongoing.

The Nation Kenya reported that the four men lived in the fast lane and had a history of run-ins with the law.

The Nation also established that the quartet lived large and spent their fortunes on fast cars, women and alcohol.

Benjamin preferred "the finer things in life" and was always out with his friends partying, his younger brother said.

"My brother had a soft spot for the finer things in life. He has a child from a previous relationship but he had a fiancée. He was in the car hire business and could be a victim of circumstances," said Mr Elvis Imbai.

Elvis had accompanied their father to Benjamin's apartment at Everest Estate in Athi River. They had earlier visited the Athi River Directorate of Criminal Investigations offices for an update on investigations.

"My brother owned several SUVs, which he hired out regularly. The business could sustain his lifestyle; he was not a criminal. It's true he has been to several police stations, but that had to do with his business. He lost three vehicles mysteriously between 2016 and 2017 to clients," said Mr Imbai.

Police records, however, place Benjamin at the centre of a crime committed on January 11 last year when a gang of seven broke into a car and stole Sh900, 000 at a yard on Ngong Road.

Benjamin was reportedly among the gang that had trailed the victim from KCB Buruburu branch to the yard, where he had intended to buy a vehicle. The victim had left the cash in the car to negotiate with the dealers. He also had another case at Mavoko Law Courts and his last appearance was December 10 last year.

Elijah also lived like a king as he always drove SUVs and told his friends that his lifestyle was supported by a relative working abroad.

"It's wrong for people to insinuate that my son was a criminal. Most of our relatives work abroad and they have always supported him. A day before he disappeared, he sent me Sh30,000 for the weekend," said Ms Caroline Obuong, his mother, at her home in Kitengela's Milimani Estate.

If the Catholic church does not defrock this man, he will rubbish their name - Reno Omokri attacks Fr Mbaka

Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has slammed clergyman, Fr Mbaka after he called for the resignation or impeachment of President Buhari.

Mbaka who was one of the staunch supporters of President Buhari during the 2015 elections, recently attacked the President over the wanton killing and destruction of properties across the country. Mbaka said in civilized environments, President Buhari would have resigned for failing in his constitutional duty to provide security for Nigerians. He said the National Assembly members to impeach the President if he fails to resign. Read here.

Reacting to Mbaka's recent comments Reno in a post shared on his IG page, described the clergyman as the ''Author of Confusion''. According to him, Fr Mbaka would rubbish the name of the Catholic church if he is not defrocked.

Quote:''Reverend Father Mbaka is an author of confusion. Today, he is calling on General @MuhammaduBuhari to “resign or be impeached”.

In 2015, this same man told Nigerians that God told him Buhari was Nigeria’s saviour.

If the @Catholicchurch does not defrock this man, he will rubbish their name.

Read Scripture. God is very clear. “God is not the author of confusion.”-1 Corinthians 14:33. A man of God should not speak from both sides of the mouth. How could God have told Mbaka that Buhari is the saviour in 2015, and now God is telling him another thing in 2021?

This is the same man who falsely accused then President Jonathan of attempting to assassinate him!''

There is palpable tension in Imo State as the military have laid serious siege at all nooks and crannies of the state capital, Owerri, scaring residents with firearms.

DAILY POST learnt that two military helicopters have kept hovering around the city since three days, mounting surveillance to ensure that they were not taken unawares by the ‘unknown gunmen’.

The development may have come as a result of the recent attack on governor Hope Uzodinma’s house in Omuma.

Recall that the state in a couple of days has witnessed unprecedented attacks from unknown gunmen which led to several loss of lives and property.

The situation seemed to have heightened since after the killing of the Eastern Security Network Commander in the Southeast region, Ikonso on Saturday.

The hoodlums, on Sunday night encountered the state Commissioner for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship, Iyke Ume, shooting him twice on the shoulder and three other drivers around Orji divisional headquarters.

It was also reported on DAILY POST that a first year student of Imo State University, identified as Nwaneri was shot dead alongside one other while she drove across the Government House roundabout, Owerri.

The worst hit was the killing of five police officers at Okigwe-South Police Area Command Headquarters in Orieagu, Ehime-mbano LGA of Imo state.

Motorists and commuters alike operating in the state capital, now live in fear of the unknown.

Some have relocated to their villages for fear of being hit by stray bullets.
The bandits had a field day on Wednesday evening patrolling the city of Owerri, shooting sporadically in the air as pedestrians and residents took to their heels for safety.

Further reports said that one trader was shot dead in Ogwa in Mbaitoli council area of the state while a handful were injured.

The Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has accused Nigerian leaders of working against the progress of the nation via their actions and inactions.

In a tweet on Thursday morning, the renowned gospel preacher revealed that his ministry is engaging in a spiritual battle against the numerous challenges bedevilling the entire nation currently.

According to him, when the prayers are answered, the alleged enemies of Nigeria would be plunged into mourning.

DAILY POST reports that religious leaders, particularly gospel preachers have broken silence on the deteriorating security situation in the country.

Recall that the Senior Pastor of Dunamis Church International Gospel Centre, Dr Pastor Paul Enenche, on Wednesday slammed the Nigerian leaders, stating that they lack leadership qualities.

Pastor Enenche referred to the leaders as space occupiers, alleging that the Chief Security Officers are supervising mass killings across the country.
Similarly, Apostle Suleman, in his tweet said: “The enemies of Nigeria are within its leadership.

“We are praying intensely and spiritually mapping the emancipation of our country from the hand of anyone of those who don’t wish it well.

“When God is through with them, they would need to consult Google on how to stop crying”.

‘Gov Hope Uzodinma is dead, God bless Nnamdi Kanu’ – Fr Mbaka

on
 April 29, 2021

Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, Catholic Priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, has accused the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma of organizing the killing of Imo State residents.

Mbaka said although he does not support terrorism, he stands against killing and labeling innocent youths of the country as ‘terrorists’.
He opined that the recent jail break in Imo State could be God’s way of releasing his people from prison.

Mbaka also wondered why the killing of a top commander of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, Ikonso Don was being celebrated.

The Cleric further warned the leaders to kill poverty, unemployment and insecurity, because God is angry with them, adding that those advising Uzodinma have killed him while he is still alive.

”I can never support terrorism, neither will I allow you to brand our children terrorists when they are not. If some people broke the prison in Owerri, if you caught them, arrest, interrogate them, it may be possible that no human being broke into that prison, it may be jailbreak from God.

”It happened in Acts of Apostle chapters 5. There was no jailbreak and nobody was arrested. God can set the prisoners free.

”For people to go around and kill our young men without trying them is evil. I’m just warning our Governors. Nigerians are dying like rats and nobody cares; God is angry with leaders, from Buhari to the last. You have failed God.

”Hope Uzodinma who came here and put his hand on this altar and swore he will protect the lives of Imolites is now organizing the killing of Imolites and he wants me to keep quiet?

”I was keeping quiet until the blood of my brother was shed. Never! Whoever will support that will suffer. How Is it difficult for the military, police and DSS to arrest one person? What if the person you killed is innocent of what he is accused of?

“You killed Ikonso and you are parading his body as if you have done anything. Go and kill poverty, unemployment, insecurity, you know how to kill, wicked people. God’s anger is on. No prophet will be spared if you keep quiet about what is happening in the country. If the leaders do not stop what is going on, it will stop them.”

He urged Nigerians to stop misquoting him because he is just a messenger of God and maintained that Buhari does not call him and he does not call Buhari.

”They said I was the one that prayed for Hope Uzodinma. Hope Uzodinma was like a vision that came to me, how am I involved in it? The message from God just passed through me, I don’t know his political story. Till today someone (Uzodinma) who became Governor has not come to give thanks to God here. I know If he is receiving advice from this sanctuary he will not be messing up. Those advising Uzodinma has killed him while he is still alive.”

Mbaka also prayed that God will bless IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
According to him, it is not wrong for someone to have courage and say that his people are being maltreated.

”I want you to know that up till today, I don’t know who is Nnamdi Kanu, I have never seen him face to face but wherever he is may God bless him. It is not a bad thing if someone has risen up to shout that his brothers are suffering, May the lord bless his courage.

”What is happening in this country is heartbreaking, tears shedding, nerve-racking and mind-blowing. Can our security agent and leaders account for us, how many people have died under one week or month? Students being kidnapped from the university and there is a leadership. It is either they are involved in it or they should stop or what is happening will stop them.

Buhari, Hope and those who want to fight me, remember there was a time God told me to support you people now God has told me to withdraw and prophesy against you,” he added.

A University in Amsterdam is in trouble for rejecting degrees from Nigeria, whiles accepting degrees from Ghana and South Africa

Quote:The Academic State Union of Universities of Nigeria has said Nigerian graduates have what it takes to compete favourably with their peers from any part of the world.

This was in reaction to recent information on the website of The School of Business in Amsterdam University, Netherlands, which said, “An African bachelor’s degree is generally the equivalent of 2 years of academic education in the Netherlands.”

“For eligibility, applicants with an African bachelor’s degree (except for South-Africa and Ghana) will need a bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in the field of Economics and Business, in order to be eligible for one of our M.Sc programmes.”

The President of Academic State Union of Universities of Nigeria, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi indicated that "While we acknowledge that there are great scholars in Ghanaian and South African universities, a close study of leading scholars in universities in the two countries will reveal a heavy presence of Nigerian academics.”

Buderi Isiya: Kaduna’s Most Wanted Bandit Holding Afaka Students To Ransom
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 04-29-2021, 12:33 PM - No Replies

Quote:Buderi Isiya, the most wanted bandits terrorizing Kaduna State, is still at large despite rigorous manhunt by security forces.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that Buderi, who is in his late 20s, has a large contingent of fighters in his command as well as heavy firepower.

Buderi also has close operational ties with Zamfara bandits’ leader, Dogo Gide, who controls the southern part of the Zamfara forest. Dogo Gide was the one who shot the famous bandit leader, Buharin Daji, in March 2018.

Security sources in Abuja told this newspaper that Buderi is currently holding 29 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, who were abducted on March 11.

“If you look at the video he released, you will hear him ordering the victims to speak so that ransom would be paid on time,” said a source who preferred anonymity.

Operating along Igabi-Giwa axis and forests in Chikun, Buderi is one of the most ruthless bandits in the state.

Leading over 100 well-armed fighters astride motorcycles, Buderi carried out many daring attacks in Kaduna communities.

“Buderi killed many security agents and civilians. Last year his gang killed four policemen. He buys arms and ammunition to maintain his primacy. He is very ruthless and deadly.

“He has thousands of cattle scattered in different locations of the state. He also controls a number of camps, which they call ‘daba’,” said the source.

According to the source, he is responsible for over 50 percent of kidnappings and cattle rustling taking place in Kaduna.

Auwal Daudawa, Mastermind Of Kankara Abduction Returns To Forest After 3 Months
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Less Than 3-months of repentance, Mastermind Of Kankara Abduction Makes U-Turn, Returns To Forest

Auwal Daudawa, the little known bandit leader in Zamfara State, who shot to prominence after masterminding abduction of over 300 students in neighbouring Katsina State has gone back to the trenches, less than three months after his celebrated repentance.

A security source and two other sources close to the bandit confirmed to Daily Trust yesterday that Daudawa has relocated to one of the forests, near the border with Katsina.

The middle-aged bandit coordinated the mass abduction of the students of Government Secondary School Kankara, on December 12, 2020, the first of such abduction by any criminal group outside Boko Haram in the North-East.

About two months later, Daudawa was paraded before the governor in Gusau, where he proclaimed his decision to be a changed man.
Daudawa and five of his lieutenants surrendered 20 AK 47 rifles, ammunition and a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher, during the ceremony.

Sources familiar with Daudawa’s latest decision told our reporter that he packed out his family and his lieutenants back to Jaja forest in Zurmi Local Government on Monday.

“He called one of his contacts in Gusau to inform him that he had arrived at the forest and decided to pick up arms again. He did not inform anybody before he left,”
 one of the sources said.

Daudawa was said to have been frustrated by the lack of proper engagement after he had laid down his arms.

He was and members of his gang who repented were housed in a government chalet for weeks before a house was secured for him in Damba, in the outskirts of Gusau, to move in with his family.

“His upkeep was being shouldered by the government. I don’t know what it was he needed. Perhaps his tall expectations were not met,”
one security source in Gusau disclosed.

His action, analysts say, is a major setback for the controversial peace deal and amnesty for bandits being championed by the Zamfara State Governor, Hon. Bello Matawalle.

A prominent bandit in the state, Shehu Rekeb, told Daily Trust that more repentant gunmen will move back to the forest to avoid being targeted. He accused government of insincerity in its dealing with the Fulani armed men.

A senior security official told Daily Trust last night that the collapse of the pact was only predictable as it was not premised on a sustainable framework.

“Honestly, there is a problem with that arrangement because you cannot claim to have a peace accord when there is no paperwork where the parties sign on specified conditions,” he said.

He also lamented that lack of rehabilitation and counselling for the repentant bandits which, he said, cannot be substituted with financial handouts.

The governor had on assumption of office two years ago re-introduced the amnesty window, urging armed Fulani youths who have been terrorising rural communities in the state to lay down their arms.

The police have had its critics, the most prominent being the governor of neighbouring Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, who insist that bandits are not trustworthy and could not be placated into permanently abandoning their criminal activities.

In opting for amnesty, Matawalle was toeing the path followed by his predecessor Abdulaziz Yari who in 2018 announced a N1 million prize on each AK47 rifle turned in by the bandits. The pact was however short-lived.

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari last year vowed not to dialogue with the bandits again after some repentant bandits re-joined hostilities.

When contacted, Zamfara State Police Spokesperson, SP Shehu Mohammed asked our reporter to call him on Thursday (today) to enable him make findings on the issue.

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, referred our reporter to the commissioner for security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Dauran, for comments. Dauran was however unreachable despite repeated attempts.

US Vice President, Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have made history after they shared the stage during President Joe Biden's first joint session to Congress.

On Wednesday, April 28, President Joe Biden delivered his first joint address to Congress, with both Harris and Pelosi sitting behind him throughout his speech.

[Image: 639ba9cd835542f8a12adb7693dc95a8?quality=uhq&resize=720]

It was the first time two women have led a joint session of Congress in the United States' nearly 245-year history. In her role as second in command, Harris presides over the Senate, while Pelosi oversees the House of Representatives.

"Madam Speaker, Madam Vice President," Biden said at the start of his speech. "No president has ever said those words from this podium. No president has ever said those words. And it's about time."

Harris, who is also the first Black person and first South Asian person to hold the role, is sitting on the President's right as he delivers remarks. And Pelosi, who became the first woman in her role in 2007, is on the President's left.

"For the first time in American history, behind the President when he speaks, will be two women: a woman vice president, and woman speaker of the House. Presidents have been addressing Congress since George Washington did it," Klain said during a conversation with Georgetown University's Institute of Politics and Public Service, adding, "It wasn't until 14 years ago that the first time one of those seats was filled by a woman. So it took a long time to get to that milestone. Fourteen years later, for the first time, there'll be two women behind the President."

Attack on disabilities care clinic in Germany leaves four patients dead and a fifth person seriously injured

Four patients at a German care centre for the disabled have been killed and a fifth person seriously injured in the eastern city of Potsdam.

A 51-year-old woman, believed to be a member of staff at the Oberlin Clinic in Potsdam, near Berlin, has been arrested 'under strong suspicion' of carrying out the attack on Wednesday night, April 28.

Officers who responded to the attack at the clinic around 9pm, said the victims were subjected to "intense, extreme violent attack", and were found in different rooms of the care home, but did not give any details around the circumstances of the killings.

The woman has been arrested on suspicion of 'intentional homicide', officers added, but said the motivation for the attack is not yet known.

Prosecutors said forensic teams are now searching the site for evidence, but that no further details will be released until the families of the victims have been informed.

The attack is thought to have taken place on the top floor of a dormitory building known as Thusnelda-von-Saldern-Haus, reports local newspaper Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten.

The site called the attack 'probably the most serious homicide in Potsdam for decades',

According to the Oberlin Clinic's website, more than 400 staff work at the site including 80 employed at the Saldern-Haus, though most would not have been there at the time of the attack.

The Clinic specialises in helping those with disabilities, offering live-in care on a campus that includes housing, schools, and workshops.

Quote:Seven days after police arrested popular actor, Olanrewaju James aka Baba Ijesha for allegedly defiling a minor seven years ago, his colleague, Damilola Adekoya aka Princess, has opened up on what led to the arrest.

In an emotional-laden video on Instagram, Princess narrated how Baba Ijesha, whom he allowed into her home for help, turned around to defile one of the children she housed as a guardian.

Princess, in the 16- minute video, couldn’t help fight back the tears as she narrated how Baba Ijesha defiled the young lady and how he was eventually caught on camera through a hatched plan.

The genesis
“I’ve heard and read what had been written and said in the past few days. I don’t even wish anybody should go through what I am going through.

“Some years ago, I had challenges with my marriage and I lost my baby so some parents in my area, out of compassion, allowed their children to love me so that I don’t feel lonely. They were six children – three boys and three girls.

“Now, Baba Ijesha had challenges and he asked me for help, so I tried my best. I registered him in a lesson, sat him for GCE and we even tried to get him into UNILAG.

The defilement
“So, he came that day and said he needed more help, so I allowed the children the three boys who wanted to go and play, and the youngest girl that followed them. My aunt was also around and Baba Ijesha was also around.

“So, when my aunt was leaving, I had to go downstairs to see her off and lock the gate and I didn’t know what happened in the spate of three to four minutes.

“The following week, the school called me to come and see my child. They said the girl sat on the brother’s leg and she started walking somehow. The also called the attention of the biological parents, who were staunch-born again Christians. They said the problem is probably spiritual, so they started praying.

The second defilement
“Meanwhile, I didn’t know he had warned her not to tell anybody and to make sure she didn’t tell anybody, he came back the next day to be sure if she had told anyone or not.

“He came in and said he bought some fruits and the girl should follow him to the car to get the fruits. When she got to the car, he used his key to defile her again after the first time.

“After then he didn’t come to my house again, but every time he needed assistance, he would call me to render help, so when people started saying he has been defiling her for seven years, I felt sad and bad.

“Fine, he defiled her, assaulted her and we just found but he never came to our house again, he was dodging me, so when he needed my assistance again, he called and I told him I wasn’t feeling fine because of my wedding which ended and it was wrong for me to be the one coming to him when he was the one that needed my assistance. He apologised and said he called because he was shooting and I said it’s okay and decided to go see him. I noticed he was avoiding me but I didn’t know why.”

The psychological effect on the victim
“Then the child started failing in school. I would pay for a private lesson and all. I even discussed with my family and the girl’s biological parents but they all said we should keep praying and I should keep the kids with me because I was also seeking a child of my own. I expressed to them that something is wrong with the child but everyone told me to have faith and fast and we all kept fasting.

“This continued but after two years, nothing changed but they all said I was nagging too much on the girl. All the children are grown now and they are all in boarding houses, so a friend of mine advised me to adopt a baby I can call my own.

“So in January 2020, I decided to adopt a baby but I was still worried about the girl’s condition and I wanted to get to the root of the problem. The children were home during 2020 because coronavirus kept us all at home and I wasn’t able to adopt a child.”

The plan to nab Baba Ijesha
“So, last month, I decided to adopt a baby because the children will be returning to school. I never imagined this was happening right under my nose because, for several years, I have been helping abused children and women with domestic violence.

“My friend and I called the girl one day after she saw a film that had myself and Baba Ijesha in it and just couldn’t be herself again. For several years after she had been molested and defiled, she never saw Baba Ijesha again and after much pleas, she told us what happened and I was so shocked.

“Immediately, I reached out to Baba Ijesha via Instagram DM because I tried calling him and his number wasn’t connecting. I told him I wanted to shoot a film and needed him for a role and he agreed to come and over.

“My mum and I had planned to sit him down and ask him the truth about the matter but my sister and friend had advised me to ensure I get evidence because he might deny it and people will support him.”

The expose
“On the day he was coming, I called in the CCTV company and they installed the CCTV. We asked everyone to go out and stay in the neighbour’s house and the girl became jittery and afraid because since the incident she hasn’t seen him again. Baba Ijesha later got in while those that came to install the CCTV were leaving and when he queried about them, I told him they were DSTV representatives and that I was going with them but will come back much later., so I dropped my phone and went out.

“Shortly after we stepped out, we started monitoring Baba Ijesha’s moves on a mobile phone. We noticed that he checked all the rooms to be sure he was all alone with the girl. He even checked for cameras, then he started.

“I can’t begin to relate the things he did because we were monitoring him on the phone but when she stood up to go into the kitchen and we knew there were no cameras there, we came in and called the police immediately. They picked him up and I asked him why and what led him to do what he did. He started talking gibberish.

“It’s sad to know that some people were asking for the video evidence and I wonder why and what for? The police have begun their investigation and Baba Ijesha confessed four times. Why would I want to set him up? Someone I was helping for years, what will I gain?

SSS Arrests Usman Bugaje For Criticising Buhari’s Handling Of Insecurity
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:The State Security Service has held Usman Bugaje for criticising the Buhari administration’s handling of insecurity across the country.

Mr Bugaje, a politician and scholar, was held by state agents after appearing on AIT, Peoples Gazette learnt. He has been at the secret police’s custody since 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, sources said.

Mr Bugaje added his voice to growing concerns amongst Nigerians about insecurity. The politician had previously condemned Mr Buhari’s failure to tackle the economy, as well as his sectional appointments.

It was not immediately clear whether the SSS would release Mr Bugaje today. A spokesman for the service did not immediately return a request seeking comments from The Gazette.

Mr Bugaje’s arrest came barely a few weeks after the SSS invited then detained Obadiah Mailafia, a former CBN chief who similarly criticised insecurity and accused politicians of being behind the expanding crisis.

Peoples Gazette

Dr. Bugaje, a former House of Reps member and founding Secretary-General of the now-defunct ACN, has been highly critical of the Buhari-led administration's handling of the Insecurity pervading the country presently.

He was arrested by the DSS during the Goodluck Jonathan administration in 2012, after his critical stance, via an interview, on their handling of the subsidy removal.

Publicity Secretary of the ACN at the time, Lai Mohammed had condemned the arrest:

Quote:”There is nothing that Dr. Bugaje said in that interview that has not been said many times over by other Nigerians since the government decided to over-reach itself by inflicting avoidable pain on the people in the name of fuel subsidy removal.

”Perhaps Dr. Bugaje’s only sin is that he is a member of the ACN. But our party is not responsible for the unenviable situation in which this rudderless government has found itself. In fact, had the government listened to our wise counsel, it would have avoided the troubles it had now brought on itself,” Lai Mohammed said.

Boko Haram Releases Photos Of Newly Acquired Armoured Tanks, Operation Vehicles, Others Captured From Nigerian Army

Quote:Militants belonging to the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, have displayed different models of armoured tanks and operational hilux vehicles the group captured from Nigerian soldiers.

According to ISWAP in a statement sighted by SaharaReporters, the vehicles were captured on Sunday when the group attacked a Nigerian Army location at 156 Battalion in Mainok area, Borno state.

SaharaReporters had reported how the gunmen attacked the military camp.

The terrorists who came in no fewer than 15 gun trucks also burnt down the military base.

The insurgents on the statement displayed photographs of two brand new Isotrex Legion MRAP captured from the convoy delivering them to the Nigerian Army Base at ‪Mai‬nok.

Also displayed were T-55 tank, Ukrainian BTR-4EN, motorcycles and different hilux operational vehicles.

Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province, have killed thousands and displaced millions in Northeastern Nigeria.

In the past months, soldiers have been targeted by the insurgents, who waylay them.

Hundreds of soldiers and officers have been reportedly killed since January 2021.

At least 33 soldiers were recently killed when two explosive-laden vehicles rammed into a military convoy in Wulgo.

The suicide bombers were identified as Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Bana Jundullah. The group also claimed four military vehicles were destroyed.

In February, about 20 soldiers were also killed in Malari, Borno State by the insurgents.

SaharaReporters gathered that the soldiers were on patrol to clear some Boko Haram elements in the area following credible intelligence when they were ambushed by the group.

Petrol Market Price Hits N241, Pushes Subsidy To N76 Per Litre
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 04-29-2021, 11:41 AM - No Replies

Quote:The real market price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol has hit N241 per litre. This is creating a deficit of N76 per litre on every litre of the product sold at N165 subsidised price presently in place across the country. Oil marketers, who declared this yesterday, maintained that the foot dragging on subsidy removal was digging Nigeria into “terrible economic misfortune.” National Operations Controller of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria,Mr. Mike Osatuyi, who said this in an interview with New Telegraph, maintained that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was not a non-government organisation (NGO).

“It is a corporation set up to make profit and as the reality is dawning on everyone now, it can no longer pay subsidy and pay into FAAC at the same time,” he said in a telephone interview with this newspaper. “N241 is the spot pump price of petrol as at today (yesterday). That is the real price the product is supposed to sell at filling stations across the country based on the crude oil price and other international marker fundamentals. “Last month, the price was at N238 per litre. But all marketers were asked to sell the product at between N162 and N165 per litre. With these, Nigeria, through the NNPC records, has a deficit of at least N76 on every litre sold at filling station. “In all these, you will agree with me that the money has to come from somewhere. The NNPC is not a non-governmental organisation (NGO) or a nonfor- profit organisation. The subsidy is a serious burden for NNPC.

It is a serious burden for Nigeria. It is digging the country into deeper economic misfortunes.” “I have said it times without number that the subsidy regime has to end. That is the position of IPMAN. “The government usually invites marketers for meetings to discuss and we have been doing this as a group with the interest of Nigeria at heart. We have always been clamouring for removal of subsidy.” Asked whether the government is willing to yield to the call of IPMAN on subsidy removal, Osatuyi maintained that the meeting with government had been resourceful.

“The government is already lining up heavy investments for gas to serve as alternative to petrol. The government is feeling the heat of subsidy and it has been doing everything within its means to address the issue of subsidy,” he said. A financial policy analyst, Mrs. Monsurat Hassan- Hamzat, corroborated Osatuyi’s view. She told New Telegraph that the implication of NNPC not contributing to FAAC was that there will be little or nothing to share by the government at the three tiers of government by May. “What this means is that we have traded development for fuel subsidy.

We have replaced what we are supposed to use to fund the states to subsidise petrol. “And, now that the NNPC might not be able to contribute to the vault, we will all understand the implication of foot-dragging on removal of subsidy,” she said. Acknowledging that government all over the world engaged in subsidising some essential products or commodities, Hassan-Hamzat noted that petrol was now on the list of elitist products, which, based on reality on ground in the country, does not require subsidy any longer.
