Mother of one dies after undergoing bum lift operation at a 'backstreet clinic' in Brazil

A British mother of one has died after undergoing bum augmentation surgery at a backstreet clinic in Brazil.

Ronilza Johnson, 46, who reportedly is a resident in the UK, passed away in hospital in the Brazilian municipality of Anapolis on the night of 1st May. She was hospitalised on 31st March after suffering complications following a botched buttock augmentation at a clandestine clinic in the same municipality a week before.

The surgeon who carried out the procedure has been named as Lucas Santana, and police have said he's liable for bodily injury, unauthorised practice of medicine and fraudulent misrepresentation.

According to investigators, the biomedical scientist introduced himself to Ronilza as a doctor and told her that he would carry out the operation with the assistance of a medical student.

Santana reportedly injected Ronilza's buttocks with polymethyl methacrylate, better known as PMMA. The Brazilian Society of Dermatology does not recommend its use for this procedure.

The chemical compound reportedly caused serious infections in Ronilza's body, resulting in rotting and left in open wound.

After falling ill and being taken to hospital around a week after the procedure, she reported the suspects to the police via telephone.

Ronilza paid BRL 9,000 (GBP 1,194) for the buttock augmentation and nose bioplasty, which the police say were all carried out illegally.

They have named the other suspect as Thierry Cardoso, who is a medical student in Bolivia.

Police officers searched the clandestine clinic and homes of both suspects on 30th April. From Cardoso's home, in the municipality of Leopoldo de Bulhoes, officers seized "countless" medicines, some of foreign origin, and blank prescriptions.

Products were also seized from the unlicensed clinic, which the health authorities have closed down.

Ronilza Johnson leaves behind a daughter, named as Amberly Johnson by local media outlets G1 and Metropoles. Her daughter's age is unknown.

The investigation is ongoing.

Boko Haram fighters invade four Bauchi LGAs

The Bauchi State Government has said Boko Haram fighters have invaded four local government areas of the state that share a border with Geidam, Yobe State which was recently attacked and taken over by the insurgents.

The Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Sabiu Baba, disclosed this at a press conference after an emergency security council meeting held at the Government House, Bauchi on Monday and presided over by governor Bala Mohammed. According to Saidu, the four local governments are Zaki, Dambam, Darazo, and Gamawa. He said the sect members have launched an attack on a communication mast belonging to the Mobile TeleCommunication Network and carted away some of the properties.

Quote:“There was an emergency security council meeting of Bauchi State this afternoon and the meeting was to look into the attack by Boko Haram in Geidam (Yobe State) and the take over of that town and the implications for Bauchi State.

Bauchi state is sharing border with Yobe State in four local government areas of Zaki, Dambam, Darazo, and Gamawa. The implications of what has happened in Geidam is that there is a lot of influx of people moving into Bauchi State from Yobe.

Of course, that will put a lot of strain on our facilities and resources, and considering the kind of movement out of Boko Haram activities, the security implications there are also very high.
The meeting today was to discuss the implications of that, identify the security threats and how to contain them from the Bauchi side.”

Security is the collective duty of all and we do not expect the security agencies alone to tackle this problem, so all hands must be on deck including traditional and religious leaders and all groups.

It will be expected that we will continue to profile whoever is coming into the state. I can tell you that some people coming into the state, come in with weapons and it is the profiling that will help us stem that kind of problem.”

Kenyan woman loses her three children, nanny in house fire

A Kenyan police officer, Mary Wandia Migwi, has lost her three children and nanny in a house fire believed to have been caused by a candle.

The incident happened in Patawa, Nakuru Town East at about 9pm on Saturday night, May 1, while the officer was away on duty.

Nakuru County Deputy Police Commander, Phanton Analo, who confirmed this said police officers were informed about the fire incident at Nairobi road estate about 4 kilometres west of the station.

Officers rushed to the scene and alerted men of the Nakuru County Fire Department, who arrived and put off the fire.

On checking the completely burnt down house, four bodies were found burnt beyond recognition.

The victims were identified as Mary Wairimu, 18, (maid) Leah Njoki, 10, Teresia Wanjiru, 7, and Mildred Agal, 2.

The bodies have been deposited at Nakuru county government morgue pending autopsy.

It was gathered that the house which was rented out to a police officer three days ago, did not have power.

"The nanny had tried unsuccessfully to purchase electricity tokens earlier, and we believe they were using a candle, which could have started the fire,” a neighbor, Johh Mwangi, told Citizen Digital.

The fire started about 9 p.m. on Saturday, according to Teresia Nyokabi, a resident of Pakawa in Nakuru, where the accident occurred.

Neighbors who broke down the door said they were alerted by smoke billowing from the building, but they had no idea there were people inside.

"We started seeing smoke but couldn’t figure out where it was coming from; by the time we realized the house was on fire, it was too late. At the time, we didn’t know there were people in the house.” Mwangi said.

Bandits threaten to kill 17 Greenfield University students if N100m ransom isn’t paid

Bandits have threatened to kill the remaining students abducted from Greenfield University, Kaduna State.

Recall that on April 18, the armed bandits stormed the school in the early hours of the day and abducted twenty-two students and a member of staff. Five of them have been killed by the bandits.

In an interview with the Hausa Service of Voice of America (VOA), a leader of the bandit group who identified himself as Sani Idris Jalingo, threatened that if the Kaduna State Government or their families fail to pay a ransom of N100 million as well as provide them with 10 brand Honda motorcycles by Tuesday, the remaining students would be killed.

According to Jalingo, 17 students are in their custody, comprising 15 females and two male students.

Quote:''“We heard the utterances of the Kaduna State Governor that he will not pay ransom to bandits to purchase additional arms.
He also said he told his family that he will not pay ransom if any of them is kidnapped. So, we want to show that the Nigerian Government has failed that is why we killed the students.”

Asked if he sees himself as a terrorist, Jalingo laughed and said
Quote: “I’m not but a food seeker.”

Emphasizing on his threat, Jalingo said

Quote: “If they fail to bring N100 million and 10 brand new Honda motorcycles known as Boko Haram by Tuesday, I can assure you they will use trucks to evacuate the bodies of the remaining students.”

He warned security agencies not to waste their time planting trackers on the motorcycles, saying his members do not go to cities and therefore arresting them will be difficult.

According to the state Commander of the Agency, Haruna Kwetishe, “Abel uses the inner pages of his textbooks to conceal the drugs within the campus to sell.” While stating that Abel was arrested on Friday 30th April, 2021, he said two other traffickers; Yahaya Joshua and Yahaya Audu, were arrested the previous day along Mokwa-Jebba road with 32kilogrammes of cannabis sativa.

Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) in his reaction, commended the Plateau, Enugu and Niger Commands of the Agency for disrupting the activities of drug cartels in their respective states.

He charged them to remain relentless in pursuit of the Agency’s mandate to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs.

Two kidnappers killed, others arrested in Kogi

Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in a joint operation with members of the local vigilante group have apprehended a gang of kidnappers terrorising commuters along Idah-Ajegu road in Kogi State.

It was gathered that the patrol security team ran into the kidnappers while they were terrorising commuters on the road on Saturday, May 1.

The security operatives overpowered the kidnappers, killing two. They also arrested two others and freed two victims.

Chief Press Secretary to Kogi State Governor, Muhammed Onogwu, who confirmed this in a press statement, said Yahaya Bello had instructed the local government chairmen, security agencies, vigilantes, hunters and members of the public to work harmoniously to root out criminals from the state.

Governor Bello warned that the state was not a place for illicit activities and that those who engaged in crimes will surely be dealt with.

"We will go after you through the valley, in the caves, on land and water. We will make Kogi a hell for you and we will root you out of our state using any means possible. Few cannot be allowed to inflict pains on the majority of our people,” Yahaya Bello stated.

Journalist who exposed Governor Ganduje's alleged "bribe video" flees to UK

Jaafar Jaafar, the journalist who exposed Governor Abdullahi Ganduje's alleged "bribe video" has fled to the United Kingdom over alleged threat to his life.

Jaafar told Premium Times that he relocated with his family to the UK and will not be returning to the country ‘until the coast is clear.’

He said;

Quote:“I’ll be here until this regime can guarantee my safety and protect freedom of the press."

The publication reported that the publisher of Daily Nigerian fled to the UK barely a month after Governor Abdullahi Ganduje revealed that those behind a video of him allegedly collecting bribe which he described as "fake", would be brought to shame.

Speaking in BBC Hausa programme, ‘Afada Acika’, the Kano state Governor had claimed that the video was cloned.

He said;

Quote:“The video is fake and we are preparing to prove that. But I cannot preempt what we are doing with regard to that. I am assuring you this video is fake and all those that are behind it would be put to shame."

Mr Jaafar was subsequently invited for questioning by the Nigerian Police Force after being accused of defamation. In the letter signed by A.A Elleman, the head of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring unit, Mr Ja’afar was accused of defaming the Inspector General of Police (IGP), though it did not state whether it is the present acting IGP Usman Alkali or his predecessor, Mohammed Adamu.

Speaking from his hideout then, Jaafar who maintained that “there was never a time he mentioned either the former or present IGP in any of his stories", accused the police of trying to arrest him upon arriving its office.

He added;

Quote:“Police are trying to file criminal charges against me for publishing Ganduje videos.
“That I defamed the character of IGP is a bait to arrest, detain and file criminal charges against me.
“I wrote nothing against the former and the current IGP."

Quote:In its continued onslaught against criminality in the Southeast, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Ebonyi State Police Command have intercepted 753 live ammunition of General-Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) concealed in a sac being transported in a commercial vehicle from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State to Umuahia in Abia State, ABN TV reports.

In a statement signed by CP Frank Mba, Police Public Relations Officer, the intelligence-driven covert operation also led to the interception and recovery of the deadly ammunition.

The statement partly reads, "Similarly, following investigations into the foiled bank robbery on the Onueke branch of a commercial bank in Ebonyi State which occurred on Tuesday, 27th April, 2021; Police operatives led by the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, on 29th April, 2021, stormed the criminal hideout of suspects indicted in the investigations located at Oriuzo village in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The suspects on sighting the Police squad, opened fire on them. The Police team engaged them gallantly and professionally. At the end, three (3) members of the gang including two (2) male and one (1) female met their waterloo following bullet injuries sustained during the exchange of gunfire. Other suspects fled in different directions.

"Two (2) Ak47 riffles, five (5) pump action guns, six (6) pistols, fifty (50) Ak47 ammunition, one hundred and twenty-six (126) cartridges, Jack knives, cutlasses, and a 40-page notebook containing inventories of ammunition purchased by the gang were recovered. A Honda Pilot Jeep with Reg No. ABJ 163 NV used for the foiled bank robbery was also recovered by the Police Team.

"Unrelenting in their quest to apprehend the remaining suspects, the Police team traced the suspects to a shrine where the robbers usually go for mystical powers before embarking on their robbery operations. Two (2) of the suspects were eventually arrested from the supposedly safe haven - the shrine, which led to the arrest of additional three (3) members of the gang. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and their spiritual godfather - the chief priest of the shrine.

"The Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, while commending the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Aliyu Garba, psc (+) and officers of the command, for excellently harnessing intelligence to nip the crimes in the bud, assured citizens of the renewed commitment of the Force to improving public safety and combating all forms of violent crimes across the land."

Unknown Gunmen Kill 12 Cows In Akwa Ibom As Herdsmen Flee

Quote:Some unidentified Gunmen have attacked Fulani Herdsmen violating the ban on open grazing in Essien Udim Local Government Akwa Ibom state, IgbereTV reports.

The Gunmen on motorbikes defiled the curfew put in place by the state government to carry out the attack, early Sunday Morning, which resulted in the death of atleast 12 cows, while the Fulani herders took to their heels.

The chairman of Essien Udim Local Government, Mr Anthony Luke, while reacting to the development, described the incident as unfortunate, "giving the fact the Local Government has in the recent times become an epicentre of cults war with security agencies including the Police, Customs and Army as well as government institutions as objects of attack."

A military operation against the hoodlums including land and aerial bombardments were launched against the hoodlums last month in their base in Ikot Akpan in Essien Udim council, and Luke believes the remnants who fled the operation have regrouped to continue the mayhem.

The Gunmen also reportedly attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in the LGA, setting the facility ablaze.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES,

MONDAY 3RD MAY 2021.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

TOPIC: TELL THE GLORIOUS NEWS

And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay (Matthew 28:5-6).

If you truly believe in what Jesus Christ did for you, if you believe that His work of salvation was important, and that you actually received that salvation, you can’t keep it to yourself. He said in Mark 16:15, “...Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Those are our marching orders.

You have to tell others about Jesus. You can win at least one soul before the end of this week; plan for it. Pray specially about it. There’re still many who don’t know what Jesus came to do; they’re not aware that He came as their substitute. They’re not aware He already saved them from the punishment, as well as the life and nature of sin. The world needs to hear this truth.

But the question, according to Romans 10:14 is, “How can they hear without a preacher?” That’s why each one of us must be personal about the Great Commission. Preach the Gospel with greater fervency, especially as we prepare ourselves and others for the coming of the Lord.

Don’t relent in your efforts; seek out the lost; those hopeless and confused in your world and let them know there’s salvation in Christ Jesus. Let them know eternal life, fellowship with God, a life of peace, righteousness, eternal victory and prosperity are now both possible and available in Christ Jesus. Tell others this glorious news.

PRAYER

Dear Father, your love compels me to intercede and preach the Gospel to the lost, bringing them out of darkness into your marvellous light. I celebrate the glorious works of salvation, and the inextricable oneness and sweet fellowship the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ has brought me into, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
Romans 10:13-15
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

DAILY SCRIPTURE READING

1-YEAR BIBLE READING PLAN: John 1:1-18 & 2 Samuel 15-17

2-YEAR BIBLE READING PLAN: Mark 7:14-23 & Numbers 6

#TALKINGSESSION

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for granting me insight into Your workings in our day, and for making me relevant and effective in establishing Your perfect will in the earth. Necessity is laid upon me to preach the Gospel; it’s all that I live for!

Thank You for Your grace and power at work in me as I reach out to the unsaved with the Gospel, delivering them from darkness into light, and from the power of darkness unto God.

I am in charge; therefore, I refuse to accommodate unwholesome, unhealthy, and noxious thoughts or let the news of fear, poverty, economic meltdown, diseases, or death run my life or determine the circumstances of my existence.

My mind is guarded by the Word and completely yielded to the right ideas, thoughts, materials, and messages. I am built up, edified, and strengthened in and by the Word. Thank You for Your grace in my life, and the ability to show care, and be diligent in all my duties and responsibilities.

I am full of wisdom, and continually receive thoughts and ideas from the Spirit that put me over, and give me the advantage always. I am made for life, and set up for honour. I live above the economy and the systems of this world, because the greater One lives in me!

I am not subject to the elements of the world, and my life is a testimony of Your greatness. Divine might is at work in me, and my victory in Christ is fully assured, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. Hallelujah!

God bless you[Image: 20210130_1115072.png]

Fayose Bemoans FG’s Silence On ₦13 Billion Ikoyi Loot, Magu’s Prosecution
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2021, 05:44 PM - No Replies

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Quote:Lagos- Former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has bemoaned the silence of the federal government on the N13 billion recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from an Ikoyi apartment in Lagos in April 2017.

The money $43m, N23.2m and £27,800 were blown open after a whistleblower informed the EFCC about its location in Osborne road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Ambassador Ayodele Oke, a former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and his wife, Folashade were indicted and arraigned by the EFCC.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent in Lagos, Fayose who accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of insincerity in their dealings with Nigerians said till now, the Muhammadu Buhari government has not told Nigerians what has happened to the money.

He also wondered why the presidency has been silent on the outcome of the investigation Ibrahim Magu, former Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He said “This is why the APC must not return in 2023. You cannot come to equity without clean hands. You can’t give a resemblance that you are ‘Mr Clean’ when you are really not. By all these their actions, it shows that they are not sincere with Nigerians. Information has clearly told us that all the assets they claimed to seize have been sold by the EFCC”.

“Majority of the people who are supposed to be prosecuted are not tried. Till now, there is no information about the money discovered in Ikoyi apartment”.

“Magu was investigated and they told us many stories about him. Till now, there is no information on outcome of his investigation. They lied against the former CJN, Walter Onnoghen. If you say people commit crime and you paint terrible pictures of them, at the end of the day, you know that you are doing them for political reasons”.

“If I had played games with them, maybe I will not be prosecuted after leaving office. That is not the nation we want. This anti-corruption war, are they winning it? This war against insecurity, are they winning it?”

“This economic war, are they winning it? Unemployment, are they winning it? The answer is no! Nigerians are disappointed. Do you see a president who has refused to sign the Electoral Bill before the last election and up till now, almost two years after the election, he has refused to sign it”.

“Sincerely, it is strange, unwarranted and unfortunate. Everybody knows Magu’s hands was unclean and he was only representing certain interests in EFCC. But when he moved against their interests, all they needed to do was to pull out Magu by force. The APC government is a chop-by-chop government. After Magu has chop enough, they said Magu go and sit down. If he doesn’t want to go, then they pull him out by force”.

“If the same Magu that DSS wrote damning reports about him is not being prosecuted, what did they write about me that I have been facing prosecution for how many months?”

“Do you hear about Gbenga Daniel’s case anymore? Do you hear about Alao-Akala’s case anymore? You won’t hear about these cases anymore since they are now in APC. In the North, do you hear the cases of most of the people they charge to court again? No, because the moment you decamp to APC, you will become a saint”.

“They are the ones that will teach you how to steal and they are the ones that will tell you how to keep it. If you are caught, they are the ones that will provide protection for you. That is what APC is all about”.

Gunmen Kill Kogi Commissioner, Abduct LG Chairman
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2021, 04:32 PM - No Replies

Quote:Gunmen have killed the Pension Board Commissioner in Kogi State, police authorities confirmed to Channels Television on Sunday.

It was gathered that the commissioner, Honourable Adebayo Solomon was killed on Saturday, while the Chairman of Yagba East Local Government, Pius Kolawole and some others were kidnapped.

The slain commissioner was said to be travelling from Ilorin to Kabba when his vehicle was said to have been shot at Eruku village a few kilometres to Egbe the border town between Kwara and Kogi state by some gunmen.

His remains had been deposited at ECWA Hospital, Egbe, while the whereabouts of Kolawole remained unknown.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ayuba Ede, said an intensive investigation is in progress to unravel the perpetrators of the heinous act.

The abduction of the council chairman may not be unconnected with his concerted efforts to rid his local government area of hoodlums suspected to be herdsmen terrorising the council.

Kogi State has been experiencing cases of kidnapping and robberies, with many blaming the criminal activities on the deplorable section of the roads.

In recent times, several armed robbery attacks and kidnapping cases have been reported across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Just last week Sunday, police operatives attached to Ajaokuta Division rescued two kidnapped victims who spent four days in the kidnappers’ den.

Few days ago, the Senator representing Edo Central in the National Assembly, Clifford Ordia, was twice attacked on Okene-Lokoja and Lokoja-Abaji roads by bandits in Kogi State on his way to Abuja.

Ordia, who is the Senate Committee Chairman on Local and Foreign Debts, narrated his ordeal to reporters on April 28 in Abuja.

He said he was travelling along the Okenne-Lokoja and Lokoja-Abaji roads on Monday when the daredevil bandits opened fire on his convoy while returning to Abuja from his hometown in Edo State.

The lawmaker noted that during the exchange of fire between the criminals and the security operatives attached to him, three policemen sustained gun wounds.

He explained that one of the wounded policemen was in a critical condition but responding to treatment in one of the hospitals in Abuja.

You can’t back Pantami, expect me to hate Mbaka – Nnamdi Kanu

on
 May 2, 2021

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has slammed the presidency for backing the Minister of Communication, Isa Pantami despite calls for his resignation over reported link with terrorist groups, such as the al-Qaeda but attack Rev. Fr. Mbaka for criticising President Mujammadu Buhari.

The Minister had in one of his sermons in the 2000s said he considered al-Qaeda founder, Osama Bin Laden, a better Muslim than himself.

TrackNews Online reports that the minister’s comment had triggered many concerned Nigerians to demand his resignation over suspicion that he may be shielding the Boko Haram terrorists.

In another development, the presidency on Friday attacked the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka for calling on the president to resign over failure to address the worsening security situation in the country.

Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu in a statement, alleged that the clergy’s criticism was because the President failed to award contract to him.

He alleged that Mbaka once visited the president at the State House demanding for contract as a reward for his support in the 2015 and 2019 general election.

Reacting, the IPOB leader said the President backed the Pantami but was inciting hatred against Mbaka.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Kanu said: “You refused to remove PANTAMI a Terrorist, but you want me to condemn Rev Father MBAKA: We must protect our own”.

Similarly, in his recent tweet on Twitter, Kanu said there was no need for Mbaka to address the allegation levelled against him.

“What has contract to do with Rev Fr. Mbaka calling for the impeachment of the mask-wearing #Fulani terrorist in Aso Rock?

“Anybody asking Mbaka to address the issue of contract is a sophisticated moron, an educated illiterate. Quit gossiping, focus on the issue of impeachment,” he said.

National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, says he has started praying for the removal of President Buhari who according to him has failed woefully in the discharge of his duty.

According to Bishop Oke, Nigeria during the civil war did not witness as many killings as it witnesses now. He said this while speaking at his church’s vigil at the auditorium of the Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Garden of Victory, Ibadan on Friday night, April 30.

In his words

Quote:“In the 1960s when Nigeria fought civil war, Eastern part of the nation was the theatre of war. Sadly today, everywhere in Nigeria is theater of war with much killings and bloodshed going on in the country every day
Quote:
Some wicked people kidnapped some students and demanded N800m for their release; they killed them. The government could not lift a finger and you are telling me that the President has not failed? Buhari has failed!”

For the first time, I have found myself praying that God should remove Buhari. They kidnapped students without the government doing anything and you are telling me that the government has not failed?

Are you saying we can not move against an incompetent government whose security apparatus has collapsed?”
I am not afraid of anybody. I am not! I am the prophet of the Most High, He watches over me. No bullet of the enemy can kill me; I can’t die in the hands of a man.”

Leading his congregation in prayers, Bishop Oke said
Quote:“We invoke the judgment of God on these people. Oh arrow of the Lord,we release against them. Sword of the Lord, cut them off.

Give us peace by all means even if it means removing an incompetent and a failed President.

Actress and model, Venita Akpofure, has said that walking out of her marriage was one of the toughest decisions she has ever had to take.

In a fresh interview with Punch, Venita said walking out of their union has been one of her toughest decisions to take

Quote:“One of the toughest decisions I have made was leaving my marriage. It became known to the public about seven months after I had moved out of my matrimonial home.

I am grateful that I had a great support system that really helped me through that period. Being a single mother is not easy, especially if ones work a lot. I had to multi-task to make sure I’m there for my kids.

I don’t consider being in the limelight as a fulfilment. Fulfilment, for me, comes from within, which is when I am meeting personal goals and providing for my kids.”she said

₦98 Billion Oil Pollution Fund Stirs Controversy In Niger Delta Communities
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2021, 11:50 AM - No Replies

Quote:The relative peace being enjoyed in the oil-rich Niger Delta may be under threat as some oil producing communities in the region are not happy with the delay in the payment of the alleged N98billion oil pollution compensation fund being promised by the federal government.

Speaking with a cross-section of some community heads in the region they confided in The Nation that the monies were approved during the twilight of the then President Goodluck Jonathan administration and was expected to be paid by President Muhammadu Buhari after due diligence was conducted.

But that was not to be as the government white paper on the payment was still gathering dust on the shelves, the community heads lamented.

Confirming this development, Chief Prof. Jasper Jumbo, Chairman/CEO, Niger Delta Projects Consortium Limited, while fielding question from our correspondent on the sidelines of the “Stakeholders Forum on The Environment” facilitated by the Institute of Directors Nigeria (IoD) Port Harcourt chapter, recently, recalled that he was part of those who drafted the recommendations made by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)which suggested some form of compensation to be paid by oil companies to communities affected by oil spillage.

Specifically, Prof. Jumbo said the agreed levies and compensation the federal government was meant to pay the affected communities in the oil-rich Niger Delta was over N98billion, but which it is yet to pay almost seven years later.

Such delay, the elderstatesman noted, was not in the best interest of the people of the region as it negates the principle of equity and fairness and in fact could precipitate crisis in the region if not handled with tact and diplomacy.

“With the general insecurity in the country the delay in the disbursement of the oil spill compensation fund is a trigger any day,” he warned, adding that it was better to prevent a breakdown of law and order by ensuring that due compensations are paid to the affected communities.

It may be recalled that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, in August 2017 set in motion a $1 billion clean-up and restoration programme of the Ogoniland region in the Niger Delta, announcing that financial and legislative frameworks had been put in place to begin implementing recommendations made by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Besides, it recommended the creation of an Environmental Restoration Fund (ERF) for Ogoniland with a capital of $1bn, to be co-funded by the federal government, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Shell.

A year later, the Nigerian government established the Hydrocarbon Pollution Restoration Project (HYPREP), an agency under the ministry of the environment with the mandate to implement the environmental clean-up programme in Ogoniland.

In 2016, the government then launched a $1bn clean-up and restoration programme of the Ogoniland, with $200m to be released every year.

The cleanup exercise later took off in 2019, eight years after UNEP’s recommendation.

Checks by our correspondent revealed that so far, $360m has been released to HYPREP out of which less than $30m has been spent, making cleanup slow.

Meanwhile, the federal government says it is prepared to regain lost time occasioned by a slip in achieving some timelines in the implementation of the UNEP Report.

Nigeria Has Become A Giant Killing Field – PDP

Quote:The National Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decried the current security situation in the country, saying Nigeria has become a giant killing field.

In a communique read by the national chairman of the party after a meeting of the caucus at the Akwa Ibom Governors’ Lodge in Abuja, the party said Nigeria was fast descending into anarchy, with the security of lives and property “practically non-existent.”

“Terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, rape, arson, mindless murder of citizens and even security agents are ravaging the land. Criminals have taken complete control of most aspects of our lives unchecked. The government seems powerless to act. Nigeria has become one giant killing field.

“The meeting also noted the unrestricted expansion of Boko Haram into newer and inner territories close to the seat of government in Abuja and expressed alarm at the capitulation of the security agencies and President Muhamadu Buhari’s APC government. In the view of the meeting, President Buhari has failed the people at a time of grave national crises,’’ part of the communiqué reads.

A little boy, Muhammad Kabir, who was kidnapped from his parents’ home in Kaduna state, has been found dead, seven days after he was taken and N5 million ransom was paid for his release.

DailyTrust reports that Kabir was taken from the Badarawa suburb of Kaduna North local government area and is believed to have been killed by his kidnappers, one of whom is said to be his neighbour. His body was found in drainage in Kano after a weeklong search and returned to Kaduna today May 1 for burial.

Sources in the community also said immediately the boy was declared missing, a search for him was done for days before a call came in from the kidnappers demanding N50m, and then later reduced the amount to N35m before finally agreeing to N5m.

Abdulrahman Kabir Magayaki, a brother to the victim, said late Kabir was taken away from their house to Zaria then to Kano State where his body was retrieved after the ransom was paid.

Quote:“One of the suspects that took the boy away was our neighbour while the ex-military personnel was also a resident in the community. They took him to Zaria from there to Kano where his body was retrieved inside drainage after they collected 5 million naira ransom,” he said.
Abdulrahman said the victim’s body was brought back to Kaduna and buried according to Islamic rites on Saturday May 1. Another resident, on condition of anonymity, said the victim must have been killed after he recognised the faces of his abductors since they all live in the same area.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kaduna state police command, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said three suspects have been arrested in connection to the crime, including the neighbour.

‘They have paralysed judiciary, only go to Abuja’ – Agbakoba blasts Nigerian governors

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Olisa Agbakoba, on Saturday, slammed Nigerian governors, insisting they have paralysed the judiciary.

Agbakoba said the State governors do not respect the Nigerian constitution and have not shown that they are responsible for it.
He noted that governors seem to have retreated and do no more ‘than go to Abuja and collect.’

According to him, despite court judgement, the governors are yet to obey court orders in respect of financial autonomy, adding that they are looking for more power.

He said this during The Platform, a programme organised and hosted by the Senior Pastor of Covenant Nation, Poju Oyemade.

According to Agbakoba, “The state governors have paralysed the judiciary and they are looking for more power. They have not shown that they are constitutionally responsible because they are not obeying the constitution.
“The governors seem to have retreated and do no more than go to Abuja and collect. We want to see more action on the part of our governors.

“I am happy that Kayode Fayemi, my good friend, will be on because he is the Chairman of the Governors Forum, yet they are not obeying the constitution.”

Meanwhile, Agbakoba had last month written to Nigerian governors on the judiciary workers’ strike.

Fear, panic in Abuja over security threat

Palpable fear has gripped residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja over the recent alarm raised by the Niger State Governor, Sani Bello that the Boko Haram insurgents have hoisted their flag in communities close to the nation’s capital.

The Governor had stated that the terrorists have taken over 50 communities in Niger State including Kaure which is just a few kilometres away from the FCT.
According to the governor, Boko Haram insurgents have converted the communities to their homes as done in Sambisa Forest of Borno State.

“I am confirming that there are Boko Haram elements here in Niger State, here in Kaure. I am confirming that they have hoisted their flags here.

“Their wives have been seized from them and forcefully attached to Boko Haram members.
“I just heard that they have placed their flags at Kaure, meaning they have taken over the territory.”
”This is what I have been engaging the federal government on, unfortunately, it has now got to this level. If care is not taken, even Abuja is not safe.

“We have been saying this for long. All our efforts have been in vain. I hope the time has come for a more coordinated military activity to take place”.

Barely 24 hours after the governor raised the alarm, the senate deliberated on how to forestall the possible plans by the insurgents to extend its territory to Abuja.

The Senator representing the Niger East Senatorial District, Musa Sani moved a motion through a point of order, tagged: “Activities of bandits and Boko Haram terrorists in Niger State.”

Sani revealed in the motion that some Local Government Areas in the state, including Shiroro and Munya have fallen under the control of Boko Haram with about 5,000 villagers already displaced in the last three days.
According to him, “They have kidnapped many, their wives seized from them and forcefully attached to Boko Haram members.

“Three military camps in Allawi, Bassa and Zagzaga in the two local government areas have been sacked and some security personnel killed by insurgents in the last one month of renewed attacks.”

Similarly, Matthew Urhoghide, the senator representing Edo South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate has revealed that some villages and communities in Abuja were already under the siege of terrorists.
He urged members of the House to step up actions that can avert the imminent security crisis in the FCT, insisting that if proactive steps are not taken, Abuja would be next and lawmakers may be the target.

“If nothing is done in the next few days, Abuja will be the target. Already, villages within Abuja are under siege. We need to do something. Why can’t we invite powerful countries to help us? These bandits don’t know the Villa; we are the target, lawmakers. Let’s invite the United States of America, the United Kingdom and other countries to help us,” he said.

On his part, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Sabi Aliyu Abdullahi, said the Senate had predicted that the Boko Haram insurgents would extend their territory to Niger State which has become a reality.
According to him, if the current prediction regarding the FCT is not taken seriously, the terrorists may soon find their ways into the city.
“In the past, we said it here that Niger State will be the next target of Boko Haram. What we predicted is coming to pass. Today, they’ve occupied Niger. Abuja is next if Niger State is not rescued by our security forces,” he stated.

The House, therefore, resolved to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari to find a lasting solution to the country’s worsening security challenges.
Similarly, the Department of State Services, DSS in a letter to the Central Bank of Nigeria dated April 28, 2021, alerted of planned attacks by some criminal elements.

DSS urged staff of the CBN to be security conscious, stating that intelligence had revealed planned by kidnappers to adopt some residents of Abuja for ransom and recruitment into terrorism.

The letter reads: “We write to inform all staff to take not of elevated security alert condition around the country and of the need to take special care in their day-to-day activities.

“Security intelligence has informed of plans by undesirable elements to infiltrate every part of the country particularly, state capitals and the FCT with the intent to perpetrate crimes of abduction and kidnapping for ransom or as a recruit for terrorism.

“It is strongly suspected that these activities are likely to be carried out in the evening or night. It is in the light of the foregoing that all staff are advised to take note as follow:
“Exhibit extra caution while at home, en route work or other locations. Be more observant of activities suggestive of abnormal happenings as to avoid falling victim.

“Limit all social engagements to those that are absolutely necessary.

“Retire home immediately after office hours and take special care to ensure that homes are properly secured by ways of reinforcing doors and locks.
“Avoid public drinking places and restaurants after hours.

“Maintain very low profile and remain as inconspicuous as possible”.
Most residents who spoke with DAILY POST correspondent in the territory called on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly address the issues by using available strategies to ensure Abuja is safe.

John Oduya, a resident of Nyanya, said it would be disastrous for a nation’s capital to be captured by terrorists, noting that the insurgents won’t hesitate if given the chance.

“That is how they will be talking about it until it becomes a reality. It will be disastrous for a nation’s capital to be captured by insurgents.

“This is not time to talk as usual. Boko Haram leaders are far ahead of our government in terms of strategies.

“Hoisting flags in Kaure which is just two hours drive from here is an indication that they are on their way here,” he said.

Also, a spare part trader in Zuba, Mr Ikechukwu, lamented the current security situation in the country and wondered how normalcy can be restored.

“Since I was born I have not heard of this kind of security situation in the history of Nigeria. Sometime, I wonder how we got here and how we can get out of this mess.

“Looking at the large population in the FCT, particularly in markets like this one, if the Boko Haram insurgents find their way here, we are finished,” he said.
A security personnel attached to the FCT Police Command who preferred not to be mentioned in print said he may consider tendering his resignation if any part of the territory is captured by the Boko Haram.
“I know that if they are coming, we are their first target since they consider us as a hindrance. I love my life.

“But I am very sure that such a thing will not happen. Our politicians are here in the FCT. They will do everything possible to stop such an attack because they are not safe too.

When contacted for comment, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mariam Yusuf, was unable to take calls and could not respond to text messages forwarded to her.
However, President Buhari on Friday, assured Nigerians that the nation will overcome the current security challenges.

Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd), the National Security Adviser made this known while briefing the State House correspondents shortly after a meeting with the President.
President Buhari hosted security chiefs at the State House to deliberate the active threats to the lives and property of the citizens nationwide.

According to Monguno, the president said, “While the insurgents, bandits and criminals are still at it, he does not doubt that the security agencies and all of us as a nation will certainly overcome the current security problems”.

The parley was, however, adjourned until Tuesday morning to receive further briefings from the Security Chiefs.

Ugbei Uzezi Raped: ECOWAS Court Orders FG To Pay $200,000 To Ex Air-Force Woman

Quote:ECOWAS Court orders FG to pay $200,000 to ex-Air Force woman ‘raped, illegally dismissed’

The regional court says there is no "amount of money enough to compensate a teenager gruesomely raped by her superiors on her way to womanhood".

The ECOWAS Court of Justice on Friday in Abuja ordered the Nigerian government to pay $200,000 in damages to an ex-air force woman who was illegally dismissed by the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) after being allegedly raped by a superior officer.

The money is about N96 million at unofficial exchange rate and about N76 million at a parallel market’s rate.

Ugbei Uzezi, in her suit presented before the court in 2019, said she joined the Nigeria Air Force in 2010, and was “brutally raped” by his superior officer, B. S Vibelko, a flight lieutenant, in 2011.

The 29-year-old Ms Uzezi, was only 19 as of 2011 when she was reportedly raped.

She was dismissed in 2015 at the peak of the victimisation, intimidation and harrassment that she faced after she reported the case to the Air Force authorities, her court documents stated.
A panel of the court, in its judgment, delivered in the suit instituted by Ms Uzezi ordered NAF to investigate and prosecute the superior officer, Mr Vibelko, over the alleged rape.

Judgment
Sahara Reporters quoted Dupe Atoki, the ECOWAS Court judge who delivered the lead judgment of the panel, as describing the applicant’s experience as “undeserving of a human being”.

The judge added that “the brutal rape of the applicant is beastly, undeserving of a human being, and the failure of the Nigerian Air Force to investigate and punish its perpetrator is a show of impunity by the Air Force and the Nigerian authorities.

“The Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian authorities are hereby ordered to arrest, investigate and prosecute the perpetrator,” adding “what amount of money is enough to compensate a teenager gruesomely raped by her superiors on her way to womanhood?”

The court ordered that her dismissal be converted to retirement with attendant benefits.

The court also ordered the Nigerian government to pay her $200,000 as compensation and a report of compliance be submitted by the Nigerian authorities within three months of being served notice of judgement.

Suit
Ms Uzezi had in her suit filed through her counsel, Marshal Abubakar of Femi Falana’s law firm, stated that she was enlisted into the Nigerian Air Force on August 15, 2010 with Service No NAF10/25157F.

She said during her over five years of active and meritorious service, she worked at various military formations including the Nigerian Air Force Base, Kaduna, the Base Services Wing, Abuja and lastly the Air Service Wing, Ikeja, Lagos on military assignments.

She recalled that on May 17, 2011 she was “sexually assaulted, brutally raped and de-flowered” by her superior officer, Mr Vibelko.

According to her, the development resulted in her being admitted at the accident and emergency ward in 345 Aeromedical Hospital Kaduna.

She said her health suffered greatly, and that she contracted “severe sexually transmitted infections as a result of the rape”.

She said her male superiors, rather than investigate and mete out appropriate sanctions, “subjected her to unprecedented intimidation, victimisation and threat to her life”.

This inhuman treatments, according to her, “included being regularly locked up in the guardroom for no reason, being placed on constant punishment duties, being constantly accused and put through various degrees of punishment and imprisonment with hard labour and often dragged through the ground and beaten to coma while nude resulting in bruises all over her body”.

The applicant claimed that she also received death threats from several officers of the Nigerian Air Force, for daring to report an officer who raped her.

She also stated that regimental entry was made into her file stating that she should never be promoted with her colleagues, adding that this continued until her unlawful dismissal.

She noted that she was orally dismissed from the Nigerian Air Force and unlawfully evicted from her official residence Flat 445 Nigerian Air Force, Ikeja, Lagos, without adherence to the statutory provisions in the Armed Forces Act.

Prayers
She had among other prayers sought a declaration by the court, that her purported dismissal from the Air Force by the respondent without arraignment, prosecution and sentence by a duly constituted Court Martial was “irregular, illegal, unlawful, null and void, and that the act of the respondent herein constitute a violation of the Applicant’s Fundamental Rights to fair hearing as stated in the provisions of SECTION 36 (1), (5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic.”

She sought an order “compelling the respondent, its agents, organs, servants, privies to pay her $20,000,000 as aggravated and punitive damages that will serve as a deterrent to the respondent, and another $500,000 as the solicitors fees and other incidental cost.”

She also asked for “an order of the court directing the respondent, its agents, organs, servants, and privies or by whatsoever name called to convert the purported dismissal of the Applicant to retirement at the rank her contemporaries in the Nigeria Air Force occupy as at the time of enforcement of the Judgement.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY 2ND MAY.

KEEP GROWING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen (2 Peter 3:18).

In 1 Peter 2:2, Peter writes to Jewish Christian pilgrims in certain cities, and he says to them, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.” The word “babes” there is “brephos” (Greek) and it refers to infants, children. Peter was writing to infant churches and young Christians; they had recently given their hearts to Christ.

But then there’s another group of Christians described in 1 Corinthians 3. The Apostle Paul called them “babes in Christ.” He said, “And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:1).

The word “babes” in this case is the Greek “nēpios.” It means one who can’t talk right. He may be twenty years old, but he’s not able to communicate correctly. He’s unskilled, untrained, not mentally coordinated, in spite of his age.

So, when it’s applied spiritually, it’s dealing with somebody who is a spiritual babe, one that’s not cultured, even though he’s been a Christian for many years. Such people can neither grasp spiritual communication nor communicate spiritual truths. Paul berated them, saying, “I have fed you with milk, and not with meat...” (1 Corinthians 3:2). “Milk” refers to the elementary principles of the Word of God, the elementary doctrines of Christ.

One who’s a spiritual babe will pray and cry to God to bless him. If he were spiritually mature, he’d have known that God already blessed us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3). He hasn’t grown to understand the mystery of Christ, that the day he was born into Christ, he became an heir of all the blessings of God in Christ Jesus.

Grow in the things of God. Press on for more knowledge, for more understanding. Keep learning the Word, with an unquenchable desire to know the Lord more and have His glory revealed in your life.

CONFESSION

Our God is great, and greatly to be praised. There’s no end to the awesomeness of His Majesty. As I keep learning His Word, His glory is revealed in my life; I’m constantly transfigured and renewed more and more in knowledge into His image. Blessed be God!

I affirm that I am a child of the day, and not of the night! I’ve been ushered into a place of rest, where everything is working for my good.

I am an epitome of beauty; everything about my life is infused with divinity and speaks of God’s glory. Eternal life, love, health, peace, joy, righteousness, prosperity; are all mine! I am well equipped and placed by the Lord. I am in Christ;

I am seated together with Him in the place of power; far above all principalities, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world but also in that which is to come.

I live in the Name of Jesus; I live in dominion over sin, sickness and infirmities, and every opposing force, accusation or hindrance. Hallelujah! I am in God’s place for me; therefore, I am enjoying life to full! Daily, I walk in the light of my prosperity, being the seed of Abraham.

Pantami: Sultan Of Sokoto Lied Against Jerry Gana On Boko Haram- Peoples Gazette
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Pantami: Documents show Sultan of Sokoto lied against Jerry Gana on Boko Haram leader Yusuf’s bail

“Since the perpetrators are bent on deliberately destroying the character of Prof Gana, he has briefed his lawyers to commence legal proceedings against all the individuals, organisations, and

The Sultan of Sokoto Sa’ad Abubakar’s claim that Jerry Gana, a former Nigerian minister and prominent Christian leader from the Middle Belt, had ties with Boko Haram and facilitated the bail of its late leader, Mohammed Yusuf was false, documents reveal.

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by Mr Abubakar, earlier released a statement absolving Nigeria’s communications minister, Isa Pantami, of alleged ties with terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and Boko Haram and terrorist like Osama Bin Laden.

Mr Abubakar’s group alleged that Mr Gana bailed the late Boko Haram leader on three different occasions, demanding that the former minister be interrogated for backing a terrorist group rather than Nigerians criticising Mr Pantami’s extremist views.

“It is pertinent here to ask the CAN National President that between Honourable Minister Pantami who engaged the leader of Boko Haram in debates against his wrong and misguided ideologies and that Christian Minister who bailed Muhammad Yusuf three times who is it the country should rightly accuse of being a friend, supporter or member of the extremist group -Boko Haram?” NSCIA said in its statement.

Mr Gana was accused of bailing the Boko Haram leader out following his arrest in 2008, reports at the time said.

But police spokesperson at the time, Emma Ojukwu, said it was the court that granted Mr Yusuf bail and not the police or the influence of an individual.

However, the former minister refuted the claims in a statement released on Thursday by his media aide Adakole Ijogi, describing it as “mischievous, misleading, and malicious.”

Asserting that Mr Gana did not bail the late leader of the terrorist group out nor had any links with him, the statement said, “Evidence available in the public domain, clearly shows that the late Mohammed Yusuf was granted bail in an open court that sat in Abuja in 2008/2009, where one Ahmed Ibrahim Suleiman, then an Officer in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, stood surety for Mohammed Yusuf as contained in the attached bail document.”

Mr Gana’s statement added, “The said document reveals the identification, state of origin, residential address in Abuja, status in the federal civil service, and even his letters of appointment and promotion. Therefore, Prof Jerry Gana was never part of the process and obviously could not have bailed Mohammed Yusuf.”

The document obtained by Peoples Gazette showed that Mr Suleman, who worked in the Accountant General of the Federation’s office as of 2009, paid N350,000 in the bail application for the charge against Mr Yusuf.

According to the document signed on January 15, 2009, Mr Suleman described the late Boko Haram leader as his teacher.

“It is important to note that this same falsehood was first published in 2009 about the time Prof Gana was deeply involved with other statesmen and women in the effort to facilitate a smooth transition that led to the emergence of Dr Goodluck Jonathan as President in 2010.

“It reappeared in 2014 when Prof Gana was engaged in the process of 2015 presidential election; published again in 2019 when Prof Gana was participating in the presidential election, and now in 2021, at the news of his recent return to PDP. With this trend, the intentions of the perpetrators and their sponsors are no longer hidden,” Mr Gana’s aide explained.

The former minister, while expressing his disappointment with NSCIA, disclosed that legal proceedings had commenced.

“We are surprised that a highly placed organisation like the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) would allow itself to be associated with such unverified and totally untrue insinuations,” the statement said, adding that “since the perpetrators are bent on deliberately destroying the character of Prof Gana, he has briefed his lawyers to commence legal proceedings against all the individuals, organisations, and media platforms involved in circulating this despicable falsehood.”

Quote:Despite the threat by the police that no rally should hold in Ogun State on Saturday, Yoruba nation agitators are currently on the streets of Abeokuta, the state capital.

DAILY POST reports that the agitators, dressed in various local outfits, marched through Ake palace to access other parts of the state capital.

A leader of the group, while addressing the people, said “we had spoken with the police. Nobody can stop us from walking freely on our fatherland.

“That’s Alake’s palace, we are going there. They all know we are fighting their cause. They know we want to save them from the Fulanis.

“Yorubas can plan a seven-day battle for seven years. What we are doing now is preparation. Just continue repeating that what we want is Yoruba nation.

“Do not fight anybody. We are not criminals. We are not here to attack anybody. We did not come here with any weapons. What we want is Yoruba nation.”

Man strangled girlfriend and their two daughters as he 'didn't want them to live without mum'

A man who strangled his girlfriend and their two young daughters says he did not want them to "live in a world where they did not have their mother", according to prosecutors.

The body of mum Amarah Banks was found in a garage in Milwaukee, Tennessee, the US, along with her daughters Camaria Banks, 4, and Zaniya Banks, 5, just one day after authorities issued an "Amber Alert" for the two girls.

Their remains were found on February 16, 2020, a day after Arzel Ivery, her boyfriend and dad of the two girls, was taken into custody in Nashville, Tennessee.

Arzel Ivery has pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree intentional homicide, and he had reportedly told detectives where to find the bodies of his girlfriend and two young girls.

Amarah Banks was last seen being dropped off at her apartment around 1am on February 8 after attending the funeral of her one-year-old son.

Her family became concerned and contacted police after she didn't show up to work the following week, and on 15 February, authorities issued an Amber Alert for daughters, Camaria and Zaniya.

Prosecutors claim Ivery admitted to killing the three, and that he said he had attended his baby son's funeral on February 7 and went to work afterwards.

He returned home in the early hours of February 8 and said that Banks was upset with him because he had gone to work.

The mum had "yelled at him that he did not care about the death of their son", according to the prosecutor's complaint.

Ivery then said that the two argued before he grabbed Banks and pushed her head into the wall before he "strangled Banks with both hands".

The complaint claims that Ivery said "he did not want the children to live in a world where they did not have their mother" and also strangled them.

Arzel then tried to burn the bodies and left them in the garage.

Police say they went after Ivery after his father had called and reported Ivery telling him that he "had killed the mother of his children and his children in Milwaukee and burned the bodies".

Cops say Ivery had previously told them he did not know where his girlfriend and his children were.

After investigators secured a search warrant they searched the apartment, where a cadaver dog detected an odor of decomposing remains in the children's room, and the "presence of human blood" in a closet.

After Ivery was taken into custody, the report said he admitted that he "told his father he had killed Banks and the two children" saying " he planned on starting a new life in Memphis".

Ivery is set to be sentenced on July 16.

Michael Olatunde Fadayomi, who has been hailed as a "pillar of the community", was a football coach and a devoted single dad who was popular in the community.

He was knifed after a fight started on the top floor of a busy bus in North West London on Thursday, April 29.

Witnesses said Mr Fadayomi's teenage son - understood to be heading to football training - "had some problems on the bus with someone".

When his father intervened, the confrontation escalated and spilled out onto the pavement.

The son - who has not been named - desperately tried to intervene as his father was repeatedly stabbed before an ambulance arrived.

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 5pm, but despite the best efforts of paramedics, Mr Fadayomi died.

"It's the first time I have seen something like that.

"They were trying to save him. There were four or five people trying to save him.

"It's sad, it's really sad. I saw him (Mr Fadayomi's son) and he said 'he was my dad' and I gave him a hug. It was horrible.

"He was on his scooter. He was just running around he just didn't know what to do.

"I asked him and he said it was his dad."

Dental nurse Tracey Dolling, 43, who rushed across the road to help the victim, told The Sun: "I did CPR. It's very, very sad, awful, absolutely devastating.

Umahi Seeks Reconciliation, Negotiations With Bandits In Ebonyi
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-01-2021, 06:14 PM - No Replies

Quote:Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi has declared his intention to negotiate with bandits to ascertain their grievances and the way forward.

Umahi made the declaration on Friday in Abakaliki at the presentation of 40 Toyota Sienna vehicles and 20 Hilux vans to security agencies for enhanced operations in the state.

The governor directed local government chairmen and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to identify the bandits and present them for debriefing.

“I won't talk to the bandits and empower them as we cannot continue to kill ourselves and destroy public infrastructure.

“The bandits are our children and I am pained when they or the security agencies are killed.

“I want to ascertain their grievances against the Ebonyi or federal government, collate the facts for discussions to commence,” he said.

He expressed disappointment over the announcement of guidelines for the 2023 elections, noting that the nation was at a crossroads for such engagement.

“Let us forget about the 2023 elections with the leaders taking responsibility for the situation and discussing a way forward.

“No one takes money to the grave and when we hear a gunshot, we will run and abandon the money we amassed.

“This is not a period to discuss political parties but ensure that the resources of this nation which can truly transform it is judiciously utilised,” he said.

Umahi debunked the insinuation that members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) or Eastern Security Network (ESN) were after him, insisting that he has discharged his duties to the people.

Dr Kenneth Ugbala, Secretary to the State Government said that the presentation was the first batch of the 100 sienna vehicles and 40 utility vehicles to be procured for security agencies.

“The governor has fully paid for the 40 sienna vehicles and 20 Hilux vans being presented as the recipients are charged to judiciously utilise the vehicles.

“I want to thank the governor for this feat despite the prevailing economic challenges as he had earlier distributed 70 utility vehicles to security agencies in 2019,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the heads of various security agencies, top government officials, youth groups among other stakeholders, witnessed the presentation ceremony.

Timipre Sylva: Why FG Can’t Continue Fuel Subsidy
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 05-01-2021, 06:12 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Federal Government has insisted that Nigerians should brace up for an increment in the pump price of petrol, in the light of the current economic situation in the country.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, addressed journalists on the sidelines of a graduation and awards ceremony organised by the Offshore Technology Institute, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where 14 master’s degree graduands of its 2019/2020 Batch Seven were recognised on Friday.

Sylvia said the Federal Government would soon scrap the current subsidy regime for Premium Motor Spirit, which, according to him, was “benefiting certain businessmen in the country.”

The minister said, “It is very unfortunate that if (there is) an increment in fuel pump price, (it) would have an impact on the marketplace and we are not happy about that. The President especially does not want to do it, but the economic realities are staring us in the face.

“Can we continue to support the subsidy, which is not necessarily benefiting the ordinary person, but is benefiting certain individuals who are businessmen in the country? I don’t want to identify the people that are benefiting.

“Subsidy is not directly benefitting Nigerians; the biggest contact with Nigerians is kerosene consumption used by local persons for cooking; as for diesel, it is used to transport food items and so on. But these have been deregulated for a long time now.”

According to him, PMS, which he said is not the preferred fuel of the common man, continues to defy deregulation. He added that, because PMS proponents are the most vocal, they continue to kick against deregulation “but we are going to get there.”

Sylvia added, “Right now, we are still in discussion with stakeholders, so we have decided to go on with subsidy for some time, until we are able to conclude our discussions with the stakeholders and announce the policy direction.”

Earlier, acting Director, Offshore Technology Institute, University of Port Harcourt, Dr Robinson Briggs, described the graduands as a unique and special group of students who were faced with a great challenge as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Iginla, who is the shepherd in charge of the world-class 80,000 seater auditorium known as the City of Wonders In Nigeria, released a prophetic video this morning where he wept for Nigeria. Iginla warned that what is coming ahead is scary and that he saw a dark cloud pregnant with an evil baby. Here is the full message as released by him:

Oh Nigeria, our land of Glory, I weep for You because you are already injured and bleeding. Who can stop this bleeding and flow of blood? I can't tell you what I see. May History not repeat itself. Nark all I have said in parables. My spirit boils. For the past six months, God has been revealing to me some things that are hard for me to say. We need to pray for Nigeria. What is coming ahead in the next three months is not good, that's May, June, and July. I can't talk more than this. We need to pray for Nigeria. You see the military, police, DSS and all security operatives have a lot of works to do because of what is coming ahead. We really need to pray for Nigeria. I appeal to those in authority to be cautious and sensitive because the cloud is dark and it is pregnant. And the baby that is about to come from this pregnancy is an evil baby. I will repeat myself, the cloud is dark and very pregnant with an evil child.

Ortom Deserves Commendation Not Condemnation - Benue Govt Replies Garba Shehu
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-01-2021, 09:21 AM - Replies (1)

Quote:We read the statement signed by Senior Special Assistant to the President on media and publicity, mallam Garba Shehu in which he said President Muhammadu Buhari had expressed “his disappointment and sadness to hear Samuel Ortom, the Governor of Benue State make a litany of accusations against his person and his government following the recent unfortunate incidents in the state”. Shehu was referring to Governor Ortom’s clarion call on the President to act decisively and in an unbiased manner to end the spate of killings by Fulani herdsmen in Benue and other parts of the country.

We are convinced that Mr President was not aware that his aide Shehu made such a statement on his behalf. It is clear that the media aide didn’t speak for the President in the said statement. President Buhari wouldn’t have given approval for such a reckless and insensitive press release.

What is wrong with Governor Ortom’s call on the President to address the nation, convene a national security summit and declare a state of emergency on security, following the spate of killings taking place in Benue and the remaining states of the federation?

Governor Ortom is not the only one who is worried by the worsening security situation in the country and has called on the President to rise to his responsibilities by declaring a state of emergency on security and convening a summit to address the numerous security challenges bedeviling the nation. Many other Nigerians of good conscience have at different times made similar calls. What the Governor therefore deserves is commendation and not condemnation.

If Garba Shehu claims that the President is disappointed in the Benue State Governor for speaking against the sustained attacks on his people, we wonder how he feels about the killings in North East, North West, South East, South West and other parts of the North Central. Are those killings occurring as a result of the comments of Governors of the affected states?

It is shocking that Shehu would make a statement regarding an attack evidently carried out by Fulani herdsmen and there won’t be a single sentence of reproach directed at the violent Fulani herders. Such a deliberate omission smacks of complicity and tacit support for the killer herders.

Shehu is aware that Governor Ortom has on several occasions raised alarm against activities of the rampaging herdsmen whose sole aim is to take over the ancestral lands of Benue people and other Nigerians. The Governor has written letters to the Federal Government and made other spirited efforts to have the government at the centre take preventive measures against further attacks on Benue communities. The Federal Government has repeatedly ignored such patriotic calls, insisting rather that cattle routes of the 1950s be re-opened to grant easy passage to the pastoralists and their animals.

The posture of the Federal Government has made many Nigerians to conclude that it is complicit and its inaction has emboldened the armed herdsmen to cause greater havoc across the country.

The President is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The job of a Governor is to support security agencies to perform their duties, and this, Governor Ortom has done efficiently to the admiration of many Nigerians.

When President Buhari gave a shoot on sight order to security agencies against persons bearing AK47, Governor Ortom was one of the first to support the presidential directive. Minister of Defence came out a few weeks later to counter the President’s order and we expected a reaction from the Presidency but till this minute, no such reaction has been heard.

What Garba Shehu ought to know is that Governor Ortom has no personal grudge against the President. The Governor is only being patriotic by calling for justice, equity, fairness and above all the rule of law. He expects the President to be the leader of every Nigerian and treat all as his people.

Terver Akase
Chief Press Secretary

Attacks On Prisons: FG Issues Shoot-At-Sight Order, Declares Prisons ‘Red Zones’

Quote:Declares Prisons ‘Red Zones’
.Use maximum force to quell attacks -Aregbesola
.Fleeing inmates rearrested for murder

The Federal Government has expressed great outrage at the recent wave of attacks on Custodial Centres of the Nigeria Correctional Service NCoS, ordering personnel of the Service’s armed squad to shoot at sight any internal and external aggressor.

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola gave the order at an emergency meeting with NCoS Squadron Commanders, Field Commanders and Heads of Armed Squads.

This was as he said some of the inmates who escaped from the custodial centres have been rearrested for murder.

He also cautioned the personnel against trafficking which he said is one way through which criminals invade the facilities having known that they could smuggle contraband into the facilities.

While he declared the centres as “red zones” which must remain inviolable at all costs, Aregbesola directed the officers to deploy maximum force rather than minimum force against aggressors.

He said; “Our Custodial Centres must be red zones. It is a quarantine centre for those who by law should not live among free men. When a person is declared unfit to relate with other humans, it is the duty of the authorities to guarantee it.

“We are with you absolutely to make our Custodial Centres inviolable. Attacks on centres is no longer a happenstance. There is a pattern now and we can no longer give any excuse to allow these attacks to succeed. I was at the Owerri centre when we were told about the circumstances surrounding that attack and the question someone asked was, where are the casualties?

“If this meeting must make any meaning at all, you will be held absolutely responsible going forward for any attack on our custodial facilities. I asked representatives of the advanced nations about how it works and they told me a custodial centre is a fortress and a sacred facility that nobody should even have the temerity to attack, not to talk of succeeding at attacking.

“So the current security challenges are just being used as a cover. A pattern is fast emerging and we must take it as such.

“Well, we must commend you for your professionalism, diligence and sacrifice in the performance of your duties. We appreciate you but the line must be drawn where you say enough is enough, where nobody can cross, to dare or to attempt to break our will.

“I am aware of your yeoman’s job in foiling attacks, particularly jailbreaks. I must commend you for your brilliance in Ikoyi, Bauchi, Ubiaja and Kano recently.

“The custodial facilities are a symbol of the authority of the Nigerian State. They are sacred and inviolable institutions. You will notice that they are usually built around military fortresses, to show how important they are. This is to deter would-be attackers from inside or outside.

“More importantly, you are armed and positioned to directly guard them and defend their integrity. Your mission is to defend the facilities at all costs. Let me repeat again, defend them at all costs.

“You are empowered by the highest authority in the land to use every means necessary to defend the custodial centres against internal and external aggression.

“The weapons you carry and the instrument you have are to be lawfully deployed for maximum effect, in protecting the facilities. Anyone or group of persons that decide(s) to attack them should not live to regret it.

“You must not fail because failure means you have contributed to the insecurity in the land by allowing criminals to invade society. This begins with vigilance. You must be on the watch for any instrument or material that could aid criminals in perpetuating jailbreaks. Again, earlier this month, vigilant officers stopped one of their colleagues from smuggling a mobile phone to an inmate in Bauchi. It will be difficult, if not impossible, for inmates to break from inside without receiving assistance from officers, no matter how little.

“Never again must a successful attack happen on any of our custodial facilities, not even in our farms. Whoever attempts it must simply regret it. By the time you make it almost a life and death matter when you attempt a custodial facility, that will be the end of such attack.

Rearrested for murder

“Some of the escaped inmates from Edo have been rearrested for murder, another crime. There was a particular case that immediately he escaped from the centre in Edo, he went straight and killed all those he said facilitated his initial arrest. Luckily he has now been arrested and faces a double jeopardy, one for escape from lawful custody and two, for murder”, Aregbesola added.

Earlier, Acting Controller General of the NCoS, John Mrabure charged the personnel to scale up efforts at securing the facilities.

According to him, the management would continue to punish those who shirk in their responsibilities and also reward those who perform exceptionally.

Quote:Gov. Umahi Directs Immediate Deployment Of Security To Ebonyi International Airport Site

Governor David Nweze Umahi has warned criminal elements masquerading in the State to keep off the shores of the Ebonyi or risk being tracked down to face the full weight of the law, IgbereTV reports.

Governor Umahi gave the warning while inspecting the progress of work with security chiefs at the Ebonyi International Airport, Abakaliki.

Governor Umahi who was speaking on the heels of the recent criminal threat on the workers of the site by unknown gunmen recently directed Security Agencies to fully mobilize to the site to forestall the recurrence of such attacks.

While explaining that the visit was to encourage the workers after the unfortunate attack, Governor Umahi assured that such an incident would not repeat itself at the site.

He said;

“Let me say that what happened here a few days ago when some criminals after going to their village where they have land squabbles, came here and started chasing workers will never happen again.

"My directive is that if they see anyone with a weapon, they should demobilize the person. These criminals are not ESN or IPOB, they are just pure criminals that are going about robbing people and inflicting fears on people and that is why I have directed Security Chiefs to mobilize to this place and block all the entrances leading to this airport.

“I have also directed the leaders of Ezza North and South to warn their people because of it happens again, we will demobilize from the site.

“I want to commend the service chiefs for their commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of our people and we will give them all the supGov. Umahi Directs Immediate Deployment Of Security To Ebonyi International Airport Siteports they need.”

Mbaka vs Presidency: Nigerians question prophecies

on
 May 1, 2021

Nigerians have continued to react to a call for the National Assembly to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari if he fails to resign from office over the current state of insecurity in the country.

The call was made by the controversial Catholic priest, Rev Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, a hitherto staunch supporter of President Buhari and his All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mbaka, while calling for the President’s impeachment on Wednesday during a worship service, said it was sad that Buhari could maintain what he called a graveyard silence in the midst of killings and deaths in the country. He insisted that President Buhari might have lost touch with realities.

He also argued that no civilised leader could have remained in power with the level of violence and deaths being witnessed in the country.
“How can people be dying, the chief security officer of the country will be sitting down without making any comment.
“Gunmen attacking people everywhere. Buhari should have resigned honorably following his failure as a leader. Let me tell you if it is in a civilized country, by now, President Buhari will resign with what is happening. So it is amazing that he has chosen to sit tight while people are dying anyhow”, the priest said.

Citing the precarious conditions under which citizens are operating currently with poverty and insecurity, Mbaka added: “Nigerians are crying because there’s no security in the country. The National Assembly should impeach the president if he doesn’t want to resign.”

Pre-empting the expected backlash from his call, the priest warned members of the National Assembly against failure to impeach the President and attacking him, saying “…something worse than what they can never imagine will happen to the members.”

As envisaged by Mbaka himself, reactions have trailed his call for the impeachment of the President, with some, especially supporters of the ruling party calling for his head while others mocked him for his ‘failed’ prophecy for saying President was the ‘messiah’ Nigerians were waiting for. Others, however, praised him for his courage to speak up despite his well known support for Buhari.

The ruling party, APC, its reaction showed that the honeymoon that existed between them was truly over, as it advised the clergy to allow politicians handle political messages.

Threatening to report Mbaka to the Pope, the APC described his call for the President’s impeachment as ungodly, claiming that the priest was only looking for personal benefits.
In a statement by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena on Friday, the party said the priest was supposed to use “all known spiritual means of averting crisis rather than threaten a democratically elected government for his benefit while pretending to be speaking for the people.”

The party also charged the priest to emulate other clergymen like Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and Pastor WF Kumuyi of the Deeper Life Bible Church, who have turned on to prayers for the country.
“It is unfortunate for a man of God who is supposed to deploy all known spiritual means of averting crisis but rather threatening a democratically elected government for his benefits while pretending to be speaking for the people.

“One would wonder who Father Mbaka is emulating because the Lord Jesus Christ did not threaten to bring down the government during his own time, in fact, Jesus Christ obeyed and honoured constituted authority. That’s why he paid his tax.

“We are calling on Father Mbaka to concentrate on his spiritual calling and stop speaking like politicians who it is obvious he (Mbaka) has been dining and wining with. If Mbaka has found another political ally, it is better to leave a political message for politicians.

“Calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to either resign or be impeached because of the current challenges is ungodly. Father Mbaka should not, however, take his luck too far because there is a lot to tell the Vatican and the Pope about his person and his sources of inspiration.

“Emulate the likes of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG and Pastor WF Kumuyi of the Deeper Life Bible Ministry and many other true men of God who will rather fast and pray to avert a disaster in the country instead of threatening the government of the day”, the APC said.

Though it is understandable that the APC would naturally be angry over the call for the impeachment of the President, especially for a political ally, who might have ‘new political allies’, it is, however, yet unknown the ‘a lot to tell the Vatican and the Pope about his person and his sources of inspiration’.
As allies since 2015 until lately, the APC obviously may be privy to certain information about the person and sources of inspiration of the Catholic priest the Vatican and Nigerians are not aware of. Whatever that may be, there is sure to be some interesting back and forth in the days ahead, as Mbaka is not a man known to take a hit and shy away from an appropriate response.

While Nigerians await the soon to become blockbuster soap opera, they have started reacting, offering different opinions and views on the call by Mbaka.

Taking to the microblogging site, Twitter, @Sotonye0127 said it would have been faster for the priest to rewind under his role in bringing President Buhari to office than calling for his impeachment.
He said “Does Fr Mbaka have to call for impeachment when he knows the role he played in foisting this calamity? Rewinding his role will have a faster result than the process of impeachment. Or doesn’t he trust his faith anymore”, while @Gen2Dom believes Mbaka was just being unduly slandered as he has the right to change his mind at anytime.

“It was not just Mbaka’s vote or his campaigns that brought Buhari to power. So stop this slandering attitude. He has the right to change his mind given good reasons. Even God who ordained Saul rejected him later when he began misbehaving”, @Gen2Dom wrote.

However, @lamSahaz failed to share the sentiments of @Gen2Dom when he wrote: “I could remember how this man fooled the whole east to vote for Buhari after collecting millions. British killed our dearest culture with Christianity knowing fully well that our culture is far mightier beyond their so called religion” while @louis_ibek believes “The man saw reasons to bless-up the courage of @MaziNnamdiKanu. … the cheap smears you are throwing at him can’t change the fact that he is speaking against injustice in killings in the land. Get the message and forget the popular opinion of u-turn on this bird app.”

@King_CEO, however, called to question the prophecies of Mbaka concerning Buhari, asking “Does it mean God lied to him? Politicians will always use religious leaders like tissues paper because of their greed for money and fame” while @EmeraldSceptre said: “When you tell people that religion has no business with politics, God does not take part in politics, he deals with anyone that interfere with his purpose, politician or not. That’s how all this men will keep speaking from both sides of their mouth.”

Sounding cynical, @Greenaetion said: “Let me tell this so called Mbaka that Buhari is going nowhere and the sky won’t fall. Buhari is prayer answered to his adoration assembly and his entire family”, while @MASTER_P97 called on Mbaka to resign before Buhari for false prophecy and misleading the people.

3rd_Rome, however, questioned the efficacy of Mbaka’s prophesies when he said: “I’m almost shocked this guy still had congregation; why Fr Mbaka no see our present predicament for vision? God told you to support who?; Are you tryna say God was wrong? It’s a shame you were used against your people”, while @fablani9 wrote: “As the money wey dey use buy his sense don finish. He don regain his sense.”

@p_Izue however believes Mbaka’s new posture has to do with the current state of insecurity in the South-East when he wrote: “The fear of unknown gunmen is the beginning of wisdom nothing more. God has never spoken to him rather dollars and naira has been speaking to him”, while @jngwobia1 said: The same @MBuhari the fake Father Mbaka told us God revealed to him is the messiah. I pity those that believe n follow this man. Hopeless Hope uzodinma has used him finish and stopped picking his calls.”

For @Dandippi, it was a good thing that Father Mbaka has found his voice in speaking against what is wrong in the country. He said: “360 u-turn from father Mbaka is in the right direction. Even prophet Samuel did same during the time of King Saul, when he (Saul) disobeyed God. Other well meaning Nigerians should do same to the weak or lifeless president, since he can’t protect the life and properties of his people.”

For @philsike1, Father Mbaka has only made him proud as a Catholic. “Fr Mbaka has won me back. Am proud again to be a Catholic. I can now kneel before him and ask for God’s blessings. May the Holy Spirit forever find him a worthy priest of Jesus Christ, amen”, while @SIRKENOBIA believes Mbaka has not derailed from whatever he said kn the past. He said: “I could remember one of his messages when he said he will also criticize him when he’s not doing well.”

The Presidency, perhaps in a bid to discredit Mbaka’s impeachment call, has revealed that the Catholic priest only came up with the impeachment option after it turned his request for contracts as compensation for his support for the President.
Reacting to Mbaka’s latest position, a media aide to President Buhari, Garba Shehu, said: “An outsider distilling the avalanche of verbiage, will be surprised that after supporting the President two times to win the Presidency, Father Mbaka has made a complete U-Turn, preposterously asking President Buhari to resign or be impeached.

“Here is the point of departure: Father Mbaka asked for a meeting and to the shock of Presidential Aides, he came accompanied by three contractors. The President graciously allowed them in, and to everyone’s surprise, Father Mbaka asked for contracts as compensation for his support.

“Anyone familiar with President Buhari knows that he doesn’t break the laid down rules in dealing with contracts or any other government business for that matter. He requested the appropriate authorities to deal with the matter in accordance with laid down rules.

“Inside the Villa, discretion prevailed, that if those pictures and requests were made public, the followers will turn against the religious leader. None of it was released. Now, this is what is eating Father Mbaka.”

A Nigerian national, Augustine Omini Obono, has been sentenced to three life terms for sexually exploiting a 12-year-old girl in South Africa.

Obono, 44, was sentenced for human trafficking, rape, statutory rape, and the sexual exploitation of a minor girl in the Gauteng High Court in Benoni on Thursday, April 29.

Obono, who has been in custody since 2016 following his arrest, was also slapped with seven years for keeping the victim in a brothel and an additional three years for kidnapping the minor.

According to the police, on 3 September 2016, the minor was at a recreational park in Derdepoort when she met a woman, who asked her to accompany her to a flat in Sunnyside, Pretoria.

The woman told the girl she would meet Obono, who was unknown to the victim at the time. The woman promised the minor that she would be given transport money to go to Mamelodi the following morning.

When they arrived at the flat, the woman handed the minor over to Obono. The minor was subsequently sexually exploited and forced to work as a prostitute.

National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said Obono kept the victim in his flat, against her will, for three months.

Oboni demanded that the child make him money by prostituting herself. When she refused. he assaulted and raped her repeatedly. He allegedly locked her up sometimes without food and supplied her with drugs to get her addicted so he could control her.

"During that period, Obono fed the minor drugs and forced her to have sex with between five to six men a day. In December 2016, the victim managed to flee and went to her uncle's place in Mamelodi," Mahanjana stated.

"When she arrived, she informed her uncle about her ordeal. The uncle reported the matter to the police. The victim pointed out the flat where she was kept against her will. When police arrived at the flat, they found Obono and arrested him," Mahanjana said.

The minor is currently undergoing counselling.

Suspected drug trafficker excretes 97 wraps of cocaine worth N360m at Lagos airport

A suspected drug trafficker, Chibogu Ernest Obiora, intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos, has excreted 97 wraps of cocaine worth N360m.

Director, Media & Advocacy of the agency, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed this in a statement ion Friday, April 30, said Obiora, 47, was arrested during inward clearance of Ethiopian Airline.

"Obiora was subsequently put under observation during which he has so far excreted 97 wraps of substances that tested positive to cocaine with a total weight of 1.55kilogramme and a street value of N360million," the statement reads.

"He was arrested at about 1:16pm on Sunday 25th April, 2021 during the inward clearance of Ethiopian Airline. He had arrived Lagos on board the airline from Entebbe, Uganda via Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia,"

According to the Commander, MMIA Command of the anti-drug law enforcement agency, Ahmadu Garba, Obiora was intercepted in the E-arrival hall of the airport by the operatives of NDLEA on the suspicion that he ingested drug substance.

The suspect was taken for body machine scan and the result was positive for ingestion of substance suspected to be illicit drug. The suspect was promptly moved to the NDLEA excretion/ observation facility.

Barely an hour after he was arrested, Obiora excreted 31 wraps of cocaine weighing 500grammes and another 47 wraps (750grammes) in the evening of same day while 19 warps (300grammes) were excreted the following day, Monday 26th April, bringing the total to 97 wraps, that is, 1.55kg.

Under interrogation, Obiora claimed he was promised $1,500 if he successfully trafficked the drug. He said he opted for the deal because he needed money.

"I did it so that I will be capable of feeding my family. I was living in Madagascar but due to the COVID-19 and the lockdown in the country, I couldnt go back to my place of work. There was a time I started lacking money to feed my family and to pay my childrens school fees and the worst part of it is to pay my rent. So, I decided to take the option to do it.” the suspect claimed.

The suspect said he never knew he could be arrested while stating that he has never met the real owner of the drug.

Buhari's refusal to give Mbaka contracts as compensation for supporting him has been eating him up - Presidency

The Presidency has finally reacted to the Father Ejike Mbaka's call for President Buhari's impeachment or resignation over the widespread insecurity experienced in the country.

Presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu in a statement released on behalf of the presidency on Friday April 30, said an outsider would be surprised that after supporting the President two times to win the Presidency, Father Mbaka made a complete U-Turn asking President Buhari to resign or be impeached.

According to Shehu, Buhari's refusal to give Mbaka contracts as compensation for supporting him has been eating him up.

The statement read;

Quote:An outsider distilling the avalanche of verbiage, will be surprised that after supporting the President two times to win the Presidency, Father Mbaka has made a complete U-Turn, preposterously asking President Buhari to resign or be impeached.

Here is the point of departure: Father Mbaka asked for a meeting and to the shock of Presidential Aides, he came accompanied by three contractors.

The President graciously allowed them in, and to everyone’s surprise, Father Mbaka asked for contracts as compensation for his support.

Anyone familiar with President Buhari knows that he doesn’t break the laid down rules in dealing with contracts or any other government business for that matter. He requested the appropriate authorities to deal with the matter in accordance with laid down rules.

Inside the Villa, discretion prevailed, that if those pictures and requests were made public, the followers will turn against the religious leader. None of it was released. Now, this is what is eating Father Mbaka.
