Clash of legends: Barcelona to take on Nigeria in charity match
Nigeria’s National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) is set to host a match between Nigerian football legends and Barcelona legends in a charity match, reported Africa News on Friday.
The match, organized to honour the work of Nigerian First Lady Aisha Buhari, will feature stars like Jay Jay Okocha, Nwanko Kanu and Netherland’s Edgar Davids, who played for Barcelona in 2004. Many more names are to be confirmed.
A poster depicting Ronaldinho wearing Barcelona’s kit has been circulating, however, his presence has not been confirmed yet.
The tie is scheduled for Saturday March 10 at the newly renovated Abuja national stadium.
Clash of Legends
The match, dubbed “Clash of Legends” is being organized to support the charity work of Mrs. Buhari’s foundation Future Assured Programme.
NCWD’s Director General, Mrs. Mary Ekpere-Eta, at a press conference, said NCWD and UNICEF will host a two-day programme in support for the work Nigeria’s First Lady is doing for the Nigerian children.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who has recently returned to his best form under Pep Guardiola, admitted that he once came very close to signing with Barcelona. The former Borussia Dortmund man also had words of praise for both his present and past coaches.
"I was very close to signing for Barcelona, but at the end, it didn't happen," Gundogan explained to Sport Arena Plus. "But now I am where I want to be and I am very happy."
Gundogan, who made the switch to the English Premier League after several years at Dortmund, had nothing but positive words for old boss Jurgen Klopp.
"Klopp loved me, but I decided to go with Guardiola because his philosophy was very similar to my game. Klopp is like a father to me. Guardiola, a genius, and a teacher, he's the best coach in the world."
When asked to choose between Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo the midfielder hesitated but finally opted for the Argentine star.
"It is difficult to make a choice, but I can say that Messi is more talented."

Neymar starts World Cup countdown after undergoing successful surgery
Neymar has undergone successful surgery on his broken foot, with the Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil star now starting his recovery process.
The 26-year-old suffered a fractured metatarsal during a domestic outing for PSG against Marseille last weekend.
After initial confusion as to whether he would be forced under the knife, the decision was taken to send him for an operation.
That procedure was carried out at the Materdei Hospital in Belo Horizonte on Saturday, with Brazilian news outlet UOL Esporte reporting that Neymar spent a little over two hours in theatre.
A statement released by PSG read: “The operation led by Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar went perfectly well. It consisted of the insertion of a screw placed at the level of the lesion of the fifth right metatarsal.
“Rehabilitation will begin immediately under the supervision of the physiotherapist of the club. A report will be made in six weeks to specify the possible date of resumption of training.”
