- Christmas Day
TOPIC: JESUS - THE BORN KING
Read Matthew 2:1-11
1. Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2. Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6. And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7. Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
MEMORISE: These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful (Revelation 17:14)
EXPOSITION
There are kings, but Jesus is different. While men and people of their kingdoms made other kings, no matter how reputable and affluent they are, Jesus was born as a King, prophesied years before His birth as King of kings (Rev. 17:14).
Therefore, if you do obeisance to, and revere earthly kings in the manner common to our society, you must obey and acknowledge our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ much more, He was from the beginning; Ancient of Days, greater and older than the king makers/chiefs themselves.
He was the only Man born without sexual intercourse (Matt. 1:18-20). His star started shining from birth. This is not common. He was worshipped as a baby (Matt. 2:11) and even great men who were regarded as His fathers, worshipped Him - Abraham, David, etc.
He is the youngest, oldest, and most powerful King, ever.
The most spectacular, however, is that, every other king dies. Jesus lives forever and His name has been exalted above other names everywhere (Phil. 2:9-11). He would save His people from sin: that He accomplished. Many who are made kings end up becoming threats to their subjects. Can you remember how King Ahab treated his subject, Naboth, because he wanted the latter's property?
Jesus needs your heart, and He is ready to give you all that He has. Only Jesus succeeded in saving His people for that is why He came on the throne of His father, David. He is the hope for the hopeless, health to the sick, life to the dead, etc. Oh! Do not miss these inexhaustible and indescribable blessings accessible only through Him. Accept His Lordship today by surrendering your totality to Him, and you are sure to have His favour eternally.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, as from today, I refuse to bow in worship to any creature of Yours.
2. Father, I surrender my will to You, treat me as Your bonafide child.
3. Lord, help everyone, everywhere celebrating Christmas this Yuletide to come to terms with Your Lordship and positively respond.
