RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (NOVEMBER PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*FULFIL YOUR MINISTRY IN THE GOSPEL .*

Thursday, November 23rd .
Pastor Chris

_*But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24).*_

The Apostle Paul took personal responsibility for the Gospel. The Gospel to him was a sacred trust. He affirmed this in his epistle to Timothy, when he said, _*“According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust”*_ (1 Timothy 1:11).

In 1 Corinthians 9:16, he said, _*“For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!”*_ Again, in 1 Timothy 1:12, he declared, _*“…I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry.”*_ He knew he had to fulfil his ministry in the Gospel.

God has counted you faithful and committed the Gospel to your trust; therefore, fulfil your ministry in the Gospel. See the spread of the Gospel around the world as your sacred responsibility, and be passionate to do all it takes to fulfil it. Always remember that you’re fully responsible for those in your world, to bring them the message of salvation.

The Apostle Paul encountered several obstacles and challenges in the course of preaching the Gospel, but he remained undaunted. Even when the Holy Ghost expressly testified that he was going to suffer afflictions and be imprisoned as he preached the Gospel (Acts 20:22-23), he remained resolute and focused. His response is what we read in our opening verse. He was determined to finish his course with joy; very inspiring!

Your attitude should be the same. Refuse to be moved by the problems and the difficulties that you might face in preaching the Gospel. Always remember that God counted you faithful and that’s why He’s put you into the ministry. So, like the Apostle Paul, be determined to fulfil your ministry in the Gospel, and finish your course with joy.

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, thank you for setting me on the path of success, glory, victory and divine destiny in the Gospel! I’m steadfast and unmovable, walking preordained pathways, in and mightily helped to fulfil my ministry in the Gospel and finish my course with joy, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Mark 16:15-18* And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. *||*

*||* *1 Corinthians 9:16-17* For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! 17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation [of the gospel] is committed unto me. *||*

DSS, EFCC Showdown: Buhari Has Lost Control Of His Administration - Senator
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-23-2017, 12:03 AM - No Replies

SENATOR representing Ekiti-south senatorial district, Mrs Biodun Olujimi, has said President Muhammadu Buhari should be called to order as there are evidence pointing to fact that no one is piloting the affairs of the nation or that the president has lost control of his administration.

Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West senatorial district, had raised a motion on the showdown between the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and that of the Department of State Services, DSS on Tuesday.

Trouble started when the EFCC stormed the residences of Ayo Oke, sacked director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Ita Ekpenyong, the immediate past director-general of the DSS, in a bid to arrest both men.

But the operatives of the DSS guiding the two top security officials resisted the move, resulting in a heated argument.

The anti-graft agency had invited Oke for questioning in connection with the $43 million found in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Oke’s wife, who has also been summoned, was identified as the owner of the apartment.

Presenting the motion, Mr. Melaye called on the Senate to take an urgent action on the incidents he described as “recipe for national disaster”.

“Mr. President, the media and the social media, print and electronics have been awash with a disaster that took place yesterday. The EFCC went to the residence of the former Director General of the SSS, Ita Ekpeyong, to effect an arrest and the Directorate of State Security stopped the EFCC from arresting him. That created environmental brouhaha. The whole environment and neighbours were stopped from lawfully gaining entrance into their homes because of this confusion.

“Same yesterday, the EFCC wanted to arrest the former DG NIA, Mr. Oke. Also, the officers of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency stopped that arrest. We are not here to say who is at blame. We have been embarrassed before the international community. That two sister agencies will engage in fisticuffs, arrest and stoppage of arrests. Mr. President, this is a recipe for national disaster.”

Commenting on Mr. Melaye’s motion, Mrs. Olujimi said President Buhari had lost his authority as ‘nobody’ was in charge of the current administration.

“Right now, we have a situation whereby nobody is in charge of anything and we cannot honestly blame anyone for what is happening. The truth is that you cannot go to the house of a security agent, a man who had kept the secrets of Nigeria for so long, and just try to arrest him like chicken.

“Mr. President, there has to be someone that we can hold responsible when two brothers are fighting. The person that is supposed to be held responsible has not done anything, is not doing his work.

“This is the first time we’ll see gross irresponsibility in government whereby there is no arbiter. No one to come in between two agencies that belong to only one person. The two agencies report to one person, the presidency and now we find them fighting on the pages of the newspapers, it’s a shame. We are calling on the President, he has to sit up, he should be up and doing. Call these people to order.”

She questioned the president on why a new nominee for the position of Chairman of EFCC has not been sent to the Senate.

“Mr. President, you will remember that we rejected Mr. Magu as Chairman of EFCC and up till today nothing has been said about it. The Senate is divided. Nobody has come out to say we need to resolve the issue.

“After all, there are 170 million Nigerians, all of a sudden, we are saying only one person can do this job. Mr. President, something has to be done, the presidency has to be called to order. Nobody is in charge of this government. Nobody is in charge and somebody needs to be in charge.”

Mrs. Olujinmi’s statement threw the house into a rowdy session as senators on both the ruling and opposition raised their voices to defend their own.

Leader of the Senate, in response cautioned Mrs. Olujimi against making such statements, noting that President Buhari is in “full control of the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.’

“Even when Mr. President was away to attend to his health, the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, was in full control.

“The statement by our colleague is unacceptable. It’s not right, it is wrong,” he said amidst a roar of ‘Yes’ from senators who raised their voices in support.

“My opinion about what happened is that, could it be that EFCC did not get the right kind of document to arrest those people?

“If they did, then the security agencies are wrong. Only the investigation would reveal this.”

The senate resolved to set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the clashes involving the SSS, EFCC, and NIA over the arrest of Messrs. Oke and Ekpeyong and to report its findings in two weeks.

Woman weds in hospital so dying father can walk her down the aisle (Photos)
Vieneese and Douglas Stanton originally planned to have a big wedding in April 2018, but they knew they had to make some changes after getting the heartbreaking news that Vieneese’s father had been given just a few weeks to live.
[Image: 23621400_1743169009038823_29310719477173...10x410.jpg]
My dad has acute leukemia … [doctors] were constantly giving us negative reports about my dad’s health so my fiancé — who’s now my husband — and I really wanted my dad to be a part of [the wedding],” Stanton tells PEOPLE of her father, who was diagnosed with the disease in February.
“My dad was really excited when we got engaged,” Stanton says. “Then to find out he wouldn’t make it to our original wedding day was sad for us, so we wanted to speed the process up a little bit.”

On Nov. 16, Vieneese, 27, and 30-year-old Douglas, of Richmond, California, wed at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, surrounded by friends, family and nurses. Vieneese says the hospital wedding was a total surprise to her father, Preston Rolan, 64.
[Image: 23621401_1743168752372182_11427716638140...00x400.jpg]
My dad didn’t even know we were planning this. I was working alongside the nurses and my bridal party,” she tells PEOPLE, noting that the nurses decorated the hospital, bought a cake and even got Rolan a suit. “I actually was hiding from him in the hospital! He takes walks around the hospital in the morning so they decided to take him for his walk and then I turned the corner on him.”
His reaction was priceless, she says.
[Image: 23621407_1743168595705531_72659525924224...00x353.jpg]
He was completely surprised. He really was about to start crying. He was bragging. He was telling all the nurses, ‘This is my daughter. This is my daughter!’ ” Vieneese tells PEOPLE.
“With the help of his nurses, we were able to actually have the wedding at the hospital so that he could walk me down the aisle. We wanted him to be able to share this experience with us.”

[Image: 23622116_1743168745705516_28010482417717...98x410.jpg]
[Image: 23622311_1743168592372198_31499929279885...00x363.jpg]
Photos of the ceremony showed Vieneese sporting a wide smile as she and her father walked arm-in-arm down the hospital’s halls. The nurses and guests stood on the sidelines, clapping and snapping photos.
It was amazing. It was beautiful. I was smiling the entire time,” she tells PEOPLE, adding that hospital staff provided a lot of food and even a professional photographer. “I was surprised just like my dad was because. I didn’t know it would be that big.”
[Image: 23659473_1743168805705510_31874955226294...00x400.jpg]
Vieneese and Rolan have always been close. Rolan moved in with the couple earlier this year when he became ill. Even after Rolan entered the hospital, Vieneese was sure to include him in every key moment of her life, including news that she’s pregnant.
I’m five months pregnant. It’s a baby girl,” she tells PEOPLE. “When we found out, I took balloons to my dad’s hospital room and kind of did a gender reveal with him. He was so excited.”
[Image: 23658400_1743168909038833_8768452008341411390_n.jpg]
Doctors held off putting Rolan into hospice care so he could attend Vieneese’s wedding. But now that the ceremony is over, Vieneese says she’s preparing to say goodbye to her father.
He’s someone who always gives me wisdom, he is always making sure I make the right choices,” Vieneese says through tears. “I’m definitely going to miss his wisdom over all. He was full of humor, so I will miss laughing with my dad. There’s so much about his personality I will definitely miss.”

Nigerian Police Have Arrested Maryam Sanda For Stabbing Husband To Death
[Image: Untitled-6.png]
The Nigerian Police has confirmed the arrest of Maryam Sanda for allegedly stabbing her husband, Haliru Bello to death.

Bello, 35, son of Haliru Bello, a former chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has been buried according to Islamic rites in Abuja, after prayers at the National Mosque.

Police Public Relations Officer, DPS Anjuguri Manzah, in a chat with newsmen said that the suspect was arrested on Sunday night. He said that she would be charged to court after investigations have been concluded.

According to the police, the investigation was being handled by its homicide department adding that investigation would be concluded soon.

Haliru Bello’s death was not natural, as he was allegedly killed in his Maitama home in Abuja by his wife, Maryam Sanda.

Maryam is the daughter of Maimuna Aliyu, former Aso Saving Bank executive.
According to reports, Maryam allegedly killed her husband on Saturday night, stabbing him several times.

Multiple reports online said she attacked her husband based on allegations of infidelity after seeing a text message on his phone.

Maryam was said to have stabbed Bello, who would have clocked 36 on November 23, thrice in the back. She also reportedly stabbed him several times on his manhood.
After stabbing him, she drove him to the hospital for treatment but he did not survive the attack.

Anjuri Manza, spokesman of FCT police command, confirmed the murder : “We are investigating the matter,”he told the Cable.

According to reports, it was not the first time Maryam would attack Bello violently.
She once bit part of his ear off during an argument. Bello was treated at a hospital before returning home. Some report said he was advised to leave the house but he refused, only to be brutally attacked the second time.

The couple had a daughter together.
Bello’s father was the acting chairman of the PDP board of trustees from 2015-2016, minister of defence from 2011-2012, and minister of communications from 2001-2003.

I'm pretty excited for many reasons, it's the biggest and most important collection of Tupac material ever to come up for auction.
'We have handwritten letters and lyrics, unreleased recordings no one has ever heard, to jewellery, his death certificate and more, we have a tremendous amount of Tupac material.
'We also have Tupac's only nude photograph with copyright too, then many other incredible items.
'We have contracts that Tupac had to sign in prison to personal letters sent to a girlfriend while he was in prison.
'We have one of his gun charms and a photograph of him wearing the charm as a necklace.
'I found this particularly interesting and if I was a collector I would love to own it.
'No one has ever seen anything like this ever before and these are very important items like handwritten lyrics, letters, poetry, bandanas and more.

Mum who hid her four babies in concrete filled buckets 20 years ago arrested
[Image: woman.png]

A Japanese mother who dumped four of her babies in buckets filled with concrete that she kept hidden in her apartment for two decades was arrested in Japan on Tuesday (Nov 21).

Mayumi Saito, 53, told investigators she had given birth to the infants between 1992 and 1997, a police spokesman told AFP.

Saito handed herself in at an Osaka police station on Monday and confessed, saying she did not think her desperate financial predicament made it possible for her to look after the children, local media reported.

Detectives who searched her home found four concrete-filled buckets in a closet.

Scans indicate that each one contains what appears to be the remains of an infant, the Asahi Shimbun reported.

Police are still interviewing the woman, who lives with her son, and trying to determine whether she killed the babies or whether they were stillborn, the report said.

"I did not think I could afford to raise them. I had no one to talk to," she told police, according to national broadcaster NHK.

It is unclear why she turned herself in now, local media said.

Professional Boxer bit his girlfriend's nose & punched at her face after he got jealous during a threesome
[Image: boxer.jpg]
A well built former professional boxer allowed jealousy push him into assaulting his girlfriend after they arrange a threesome with another man. John Hughes went out to buy drinks for the three-way but when he got back the other man, known only as Jimmy, had already started with foreplay. He punched his girlfriend in the face, bit her on the nose then stamped on her head before storming out and sending her a text message calling her a slag. Hughes pleaded guilty to ABH at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, following the attack in Altrincham and was jailed for 20 months. Prosecutor Robert Elias said police were called at around 5am on July 18 and they found her with cuts and bruises to her face. He said the couple wanted to ‘spice up their relationship’ so he suggested that they have a threesome. At first reluctant, she eventually agreed and he encouraged her to have
sex with his friend Jimmy. He said that he would go to buy drinks and that Jimmy would be around at any moment.
Mr Elias said: ‘But after the defendant left the house Jimmy came round and he asked her about her previous sexual encounters. Jimmy then asked her for oral sex but she told him she didn’t want to – she wanted to wait for the defendant to return.’ Jimmy carried out a sex act anyway and Hughes walked through the door. Mr Elias said: ‘The defendant lost his mind and started to threaten her. He was angry and obsessive. ‘He punched her in the fact and asking her what happened and he continued to punch her three to four timesin the face and head. She put her hands up to protect her face and he punched her in the head. He bit her on the nose. He punched her that hard that she fell to the floor. He stamped on her head. She ran outside and asked him to calm himself down.

‘He left the house and texted her the next day calling her a slag. Hypothetically he could have simply asked the friend to leave, but instead he took this out on her. It was a sustained and repeated assault.’ In mitigation for Hughes, defence counsel Michael Brady said: ‘He was a semi-professional boxer during his high school years and a well built man. He is very ashamed of himself. given she is happy to remain in the relationship.’ Judge Bernadette Baxter told Hughes ‘You had lost your mind when you saw what this other man was doing and you blamed your partner for his sexual act.

‘You thought that was her fault and you set about her in a pitiless way punching her repeatedly and used your teeth as a weapon, biting her nose. You were stamping on her head and kicking her. ‘This lady is a vulnerable woman. You were supposed to take care of her and protect her but instead you were corrosive and violent. I don’t think that she understands that she needs to be protected and keep herself away from you.’. The court heard the couple have since reunited.

Hearing for South African wife who caught her husband deleting a text message he sent

Hearing for South African wife who caught her husband deleting a text message he sent his girlfriend before her body was found in bathroom
[Image: husband%2Band%2Bwife.jpg]
Susan Rohde "went ballistic" when she caught her husband, Jason Rohde, trying to delete a message he was sending his girlfriend Jolene Alterskye from their bathroom at Spier wine estate in the hours before her death, the Western Cape High Court heard on Tuesday.
"She started swearing. She started calling Jolene a whole number of deplorable swear words," said Jason's defence lawyer, Advocate Graham van der Spuy.
In her final hours, she had been drinking wine from the bottle in their suite ahead of the formal Sotheby's conference dinner dance, said Van der Spuy.
Read Jason's version of events leading to the discovery of Susan's body in their bathroom. during the cross-examination of State pathologist Dr Akmal Coetzee-Khan.
The State alleges that Jason killed Susan that night and staged the murder to appear as a suicide. Jason has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and defeating or obstructing the ends of justice. Once the formalities of the party were over there was dancing and socialising. According to Jason,   Susan was dancing provocatively with other men.
The couple later joined a group of people, including Alterskye (his girlfriend), sitting around a fire for
drinks, and when the last round was called at 02:30, Susan apparently ordered two double Amarettos.

On their way back to their suite, Jason was invited to someone's room for an after-party, and Susan would not let him go. Back at their suite, she took all her clothes off and put on a gown.
Jason was still in his formal clothes and had gone to the bathroom to send a message to Alterskye when Susan walked in.
He had tried to delete it but Susan was apparently so angered by it that he tried to leave. Susan pulled at Jason's collar to prevent him from leaving and blocked the door to the room.
"He repeatedly on many occasions attempted to move her physically to leave. Every time he tried to leave she grabbed his arms and collar and restrained him," submitted Van der Spuy.
"He then grabbed her wrists and her lower arm several times and unsuccessfully tried to force her out of his way and tried to push past her so he could leave."
Susan kept pushing and pulling at Jason, swore and screamed at him, and used "very strong language".
"It went on for quite some time," said Van der Spuy.
According to Van der Spuy, Jason grabbed Susan by her bathrobe and jerked her by her collar to move her, but this was not effective. New detail
He said Jason also grabbed his wife by the neck with his right hand to force her away.
"He literally pulled and pushed her out of the way. He swung his arms back at her and he can clearly recall connecting with his right arm in her face," continued Van der Spuy.
Jason's plea explanation had not included the detail of grabbing Susan by the neck.
The defence lawyer said Jason then left the room.
"And he started walking up the road where he heard the sounds of blaring music."
A barefoot Susan followed, screaming and swearing at Jason, grabbing at his clothes and pulling at his collar.
He swung his body from side to side to get away and grabbed hold of her and pushed her away physically a few times when she attempted to block him. Injury after fall
He arrived at the room shared by Alterskye and her friend, with Susan following him.
There were people there, but not Alterskye.
"His wife was standing almost right behind him, creating a scene outside the hotel door," said Van der Spuy.
They then went to another colleague's room because he thought Alterskye might be there.
As he went to that room, Susan continued trying to grab at Jason, Judge Gayaat Salie-Hlophe was told.
At one stage she tripped and fell over on her right side on the edge of the pavement and landed in the garden.
Later when they were back in their room, Susan apparently screamed at Jason: "I've cut my f**king toe!"
Another heated verbal exchange took place with no further physical contact between them.
Jason went to sleep because he had to present the closing address at the conference.
"He told her he's had enough, and it's over," said Van der Spuy.
Pathologist's findings questioned
She woke him up the next morning and allegedly said: "Your whore has sent me a message".
Jason responded that he was "through with this" and "wanted out of the marriage".
She got up and went to the bathroom and he went back to sleep.
He does not know how long he slept, but he woke up again to brush his teeth and get ready for his closing address.
He could not get into the bathroom and thought Susan was being spiteful.
"He called out to her when the door was locked. He called her mobile telephone, but [she] didn't answer.
"He started getting worried and called hotel reception."
Later her body was found when the hotel's maintenance personnel opened the bathroom door for him.
Coetzee-Khan found that Susan died by manual strangulation, and not suicide as had initially been thought. The defence is questioning many of his findings on her physical injuries.
The trial continues on Wednesday, November 22.

Trafficking: Edo has built systems to receive Europe, Libya returnees – Obaseki
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-22-2017, 04:34 PM - No Replies

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that the state has built formidable structures and systems to receive and re-integrate victims of human trafficking and illegal migration who are indigenes of the state.
Speaking at the International Conference on Women Empowerment and the Fight Against Trafficking in Persons: Partnership Between Nigeria and Italy, organised by the President of Italian Chamber of Deputies, Ms Laura Boldrini, in Rome, Italy, the governor said the state government needs support to sustain its efforts and ensure that youths do not have reasons to embark on treacherous journeys.
Recall that the state government recently received three batches of over 200 returnees from Libya, who were subsequently enrolled in capacity development programmes and placed on a stipend for three months.
The state government has set up a task-force to oversee the process of rehabilitating and assimilating returnees and has sent a bill to the Edo State House of Assembly, for the enactment of a law to strengthen the fight against human trafficking in the state.
Obaseki said that the state requires huge funds to sustain the rehabilitation of the returnees, noting, “we are spending a lot to reintegrate these young people into the society and we anticipate that the expenses would be more in the nearest future. We solicit for support from the European Union, the Italian government as well as other countries affected by this menace to be able to sustain the structures we have set up in the state.”
“All parties affected by the menace of human trafficking both the countries of origin and the destination countries stand to benefit from the system we have set up in Edo State to engage these youths, which would give them no reason to contemplate migrating illegally. So, we want to strengthen these structures in Edo State to make staying back and working gainfully the preferred choice,” he said.
On indigenes who are victims of human trafficking and are willing to return to the state, the governor said, “We acknowledge the fact that they are victims, and in many instances, they are entangled in human trafficking due to no fault of theirs. We are extending an open hand to them, and assuring them of support when they return.”

Patience Jonathan’s $15.5m: Lawyers disagree over representation
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-22-2017, 04:32 PM - No Replies

There was a mild drama at the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday as two lawyers engaged in an argument over who to represent four firms that pleaded guilty to laundering $15.5million allegedly belonging to Patience Jonathan.
The companies through their representatives pleaded guilty last September 15 and were convicted for laundering the money when they were arraigned in a criminal charge before Justice Babs Kuewumi.
They admitted laundering the money allegedly belonging to wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience.
But the law firm of Mike Ozekhome Chambers filed an application on May 8 on the companies’ behalf seeking to set aside the guilty plea.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC ) has filed a counter affidavit opposing the application.
The former first lady is also praying the court to unfreeze the accounts in a separate suit.
The companies are: Pluto Property and Investment Company Ltd (represented by Friday Davis), Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Ltd (represented by Agbor Baro), Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Ltd (represented by Dioghowori Frederick) and Avalon Global Property Development Ltd (represented by Taiwo Ebenezer).
EFCC arraigned them with a former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to President Jonathan, Waripamo Dudafa, a lawyer, Amajuoyi Briggs and a banker, Adedamola Bolodeoku.
Dudafa, Briggs and Bolodeoku pleaded not guilty to the 17-count charge.
Beside the application filed by Ozekhome Chambers, another motion to set aside the guilty plea was filed by Briggs, who was the companies’ secretary, through his lawyer Ige Asemudara.
Yesterday, Chima Onuigbo, who stood in for Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), said he was served with the prosecution’s counter affidavit on Tuesday.
He sought an adjournment to enable the companies respond.
Another lawyer, Luke Aghanenu, also appeared for the companies.
He claimed he was engaged by the companies’ representatives as their authentic counsel.
According to him, he is the one who ought to speak on the companies’ behalf, not Onuigbo.
But, Onuigbo said Mike Ozekhome Chambers was engaged by Briggs to represent the companies.
He said Ozekhome had been appearing for the companies, saying he was surprised by the new counsel’s appearance.
He described Aghanenu as an “interloper”, saying he should have filed a proper application.
Resolving the issue after a long argument, Justice Kuewumi asked Aghanenu to file a formal notice of appearance as the companies’ representatives.
Asemudara said he was also served with EFCC’s counter affidavit on Tuesday.
Dudafa’s lawyer Gbenga Oyewole (SAN) said he was not served.
“As long as we’re involved in this proceedings we are entitled to be served,” he said.
EFCC’s lawyer Rotimi Oyedepo said since the application was challenging the validity of companies’ plea, it could be heard and judgment delivered at the end of the trial.
This, he said, would be in line with Section 396 (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of 2015.
“I apply that the trial should continue,” he said.
But, Asemudara said his client was challenging the guilty plea and not the charge, so it should be taken first and ruling delivered before further proceedings.
He said Oyedepo’s submission was misconceived, adding the case of the second defendant was “intricately connected” with the fourth to seventh defendants’ (the companies).
He accused the prosecution of delaying the case, saying previous adjournments were at its instance.
Urging the court to hear the application and deliver judgment, he added: “We don’t want our client to fear they were not given fair hearing.”
Ruling, Justice Babs Kuewumi held that the application would be heard and determined before the prosecution witness continues with his evidence.
“Section 396 (2) which says the delivery of the ruling shall be considered at the point of judgment does not apply to this type of application,” he said.
The judge noted that EFCC’s late filing of its counter-affidavit necessitated the adjournment.
Justice Kuewumi adjourned until December 12 for hearing of pending applications.

Enugu State Commissioner for Health, Dr Fintan Ekochin, has advised Nigerians, especially pregnant women to be cautious of their diet to prevent developing diabetes.
Ekochin gave the advice during a seminar to mark the 2017 World Diabetes Day at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) College of Medicine, Park Lane, Enugu on Tuesday.
The seminar has the theme: “The Challenges of Managing Diabetes in Women in a Resource Constrained Setting’’.
He said that being wary of what one eats helped the individual to prevent lots of diseases, especially diabetes.
“Diabetes is a common disease in the society today. However, it can be prevented and managed if proper care is taken on the type of food and diet we eat each day.
“I appeal to women, especially pregnant women, to be cautious over their food intake as well as learning to eat in moderation,’’ he said.
The commissioner lauded the Diabetes Association of Nigeria for organising the seminar to enlighten members of the public as well as health workers.
The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Frank Ezeugwu, urged the general public to participate in the seminar, to enable them understand the danger, prevention and management of the disease.
“I will urge all women, especially the pregnant women, to always go for regular blood glucose (sugar) test for early detection and treatment or for prevention,’’ Ezeugwu said.
The state Chairman of the association, Dr Ejiofor Ugwu, commended the participants adding that the seminar was organised to educate women on how to combat the disease.
“The seminar is all about how to manage diabetics in pregnant women in order to prevent maternal mortality.
“We are also urging women, especially pregnant ones, to develop the attitude of regular test as this will go a long way to prevent the disease,’’ Ugwu said.
Two of the participants: Mr Walter Ukwuigwe and Mrs Ujunwa Udechi, while commending the organisers, described the seminar as highly educative, adding that it would make impact in their lives .

Alex Ekwueme: Ibori blasts Nigerians for mourning late vice-president
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, has said Nigerians are “shedding Crocodile tears” over the death of former Vice President Alex Ekwueme.
Ibori said this in a statement by signed his spokesman, Tony Eluemunor.
The former Governor said the country refused to allow Ekwueme rescue it.
“Though His Excellency, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, GCON, was a great leader, a national father-figure, a stabilizing factor in Nigerian politics, I Chief James Onanefe Ibori can never stop asking “what if!” Ibori said.
“It is ironic that the nation that betrayed this man’s effort to rescue it from political and economic morass will, now that he is dead, begin to shed crocodile tears.
“Even those who betrayed the very effort to make Ekwueme President, may begin to, hypocritically, of course, bewail the fact that Ekwueme or the Igboman or woman, never ruled Nigeria.
“Ekwueme was an extraordinary polyvalent scholar who earned multiple degrees in Architecture, urban planning, sociology, history, philosophy and law from several universities. He was a gifted architect whose professional legacies dot various Nigerian cities.
“In politics, he was both gentlemanly and fatherly, introducing mildness even when the others had embraced roughness and irascibility.
“If only we had allowed Ekwueme to rule Nigeria, what example would he have set? Now, we will never know…and Nigeria is the ultimate loser.
“Ekwueme has lived a full life; he has given a radiant account of himself and we all agree he was outstanding.
“May the Almighty God grant his gentle soul eternal rest and pour His consolation upon his family.”

Being Married May No Longer Make You Healthier; New study reveals
[Image: married-black-african-american.jpg]
For decades, there has been a growing body of evidence linking marriage with better health.
Some studies according to Healthline showed that those who tie the knot live longer, have less chance of becoming depressed, and have fewer strokes and heart attacks.
But a recent study published in Social Science Quarterly suggests marriage might not have all the health benefits we previously thought.
The study found that the link between being married and being healthier has gotten weaker for younger generations, to the point where it may no longer exist once we account for the fact that healthier people are more likely to get married in the first place,” Dmitry Tumin, PhD, author of the study and a sociologist at The Ohio State University told Healthline.

Account For N1.63trn Cash, Assets I Recovered – Maina Dares EFCC
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-22-2017, 03:51 PM - No Replies

The embattled former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, has volunteered to testify as a state witness against the 43 pension thieves he arrested while in office.

Maina said he would appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, only if the anti-graft agency is ready to account for the recovered cash and asset worth N1.63tr.

Maina, speaking through his lawyer, Barr Sani Katu, said he is ready to turn himself in on the condition that the agency would resume the prosecution of the suspects he had apprehended.

He also said Government should know that he is not on the run, but fears for his life, as some elements within the EFCC feel threatened by evidences and documents in his possession that could send them to jail.

Katu in a statement Tuesday night, said. “He (Maina) is never afraid of the EFCC or any anti-graft agency. In fact, he is ready to testify as a state witness against the 43 pension thieves he arrested provided the EFCC is ready to account for why they failed to secure conviction of these suspects since 2011. Government and Nigerians ought to start asking these questions.”

“We have all the facts and documents ready to back up our testimony and would will readily present it to the appropriate independent panel of enquiry as soon as “we are ready to confront the real corrupt elements”.

“Mr President needs to ask for answers to logical questions to get to know what EFCC is actually doing.

“We want to still reiterate our earlier affirmation that under the leadership of Maina as the pension board, 43 persons were arrested and handed over to the EFCC to prosecute while 222 houses were seized from them.

“In the current media trial where all manners of stories have been published, there have been a lot of distortion of facts and sometimes outright blackmail, all in an attempt to paint the PRTT boss black.

“The Pension cabal has penetrated the system so much that their presence can be seen and felt in high places. We request for an enabling environment to put things in their right places vide documentary evidences.

“It is only a wicked man that runs when no one chases him. Whenever the EFCC and other anti-graft agencies are ready to go for actual prosecution the 43 pension thieves arrested some years back, Maina would not only see credibility and help EFCC in prosecuting the suspects, but surely say his own side of the story. Nigerians are wiser than some people may think.”

Fish farming is one of the various business opportunities any business-minded Nigerian could look into.
Please forgive me as I will assume you don`t know anything about fishery before.
Fish Farming in Nigeria; Background Understanding
Fish farming is known as pisciculture in the academic world.
It`s major form of aquaculture, farming of aquatic organisms like fish, crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic plants. (Forgive me please, if you hate all these academic terminologies)
Fish farming involves raising fish commercially in ponds, tanks or enclosures.
There are hundreds of species of fish among which are; sea trout, cyprinids, pangas catfish, freshwater fishes, silver seabream, common carp, catla, greasy grouper, bighead carp, Nile tilapia, grass carp (who knows, maybe there are thousands more?).
But most of them are not suitable for fish farming in Nigeria, either because of their nature or because of the low demand in the fish market or the profitability of their species.
That’s why the most common fish species fish farmers grow for commercial purpose are carp, salmon, tilapia and catfish (while the last two, catfish and tilapia is the most common species in Nigeria fish farming industry)
Fish can be grown in two ways: extensive aquaculture where fish grow under natural water (i.e. river or stream).
Then, intensive aquaculture where fish are fed with external food supply… this is the area we`re focusing on in this tutorial because this is what it means to get involve in fish farming in Nigeria.
(Please Note; After you have read everything in this post, kindly scroll back and Click Here to see how you can go through our Free practical fish farming training in any of our associates’ fish farms near you or let our experienced farmers work with you)

First, because situations and environments are differ.
Some people will be reading this tutorial from Lagos, others from Imo, Ekiti, Abuja, Kano etc. and countries outside Nigeria.
How do you expect the cost of land to build pond (for example) in Lagos to be the same with that of Ekiti?
How do you expect the cost of labour in Imo to be the same with the cost of labour in Kano?
Even some other things (like fish feeds) you might expect to be of the same price are not, even in the same city.
Second reason why it may be foolish to state that you need xxx naira to start fish farming business is because I don`t know when you`re going to be reading this tutorial.
Imagine this situation.
I was online earlier today to read about this very topic and I saw a particular post where the author stated (to the last kobo) how much you will need to start fish farming business in Nigeria.
When I looked at the date of that post, it was written in the year 2013.
Now you can see. If anybody tells you that the price of a block (to construct concrete fish pond in Nigeria) is #100 and he was actually talking about 2013, if you base your estimate on that, you will make a wrong plan.
That`s why I will not tell you that you need xxx naira, instead, I will try and show you what and what you`ll need.
(The only help we can do is to help you to write a current cost analyses, which will match up with the current fish market situation, as at today. You can ask us for the current estimate HERE)
How to Start a Profitable Fish Farming in Nigeria

  • Get a good location for your farm

  • Get a good source of water

  • Choose the appropriate fish pond

  • Decide the right species of fish for you

  • Get healthy fingernails or juveniles

  • Understand fish feeds & feeding

  • Get good and practical fish farming training

  • Start Marketing your fish before they grow-up

  • Be business minded

Let’s get into details;
  1. A Good Location for your fish farm. You need to first decide whether you’re starting your fish business small or going big.If you’re starting small, you may decide to start at your background but if you’re going big, you may need to buy or rent one or few fish ponds outside your home.

  2.  Good source of water for your fish.

How important is water to a fish? Just as oxygen is important to you.
Take a fish out of water and it becomes helpless and dying.
Put it in a bad water and you`re affecting its growth and productivity (though “bad” water varies, depending on the kind of fish we are talking about. Some fish live in rough water while others cannot).
My point here is, you`ll need good source of water for your fish.
How much will the water be?
Here is a question you alone can answer. I know a man few years ago who had his fish farm at the back of his house.
He can easily use the well of his house to satisfy these few fish, how can a man with huge earthen fish pond do this?
The size of your intending fish farm determines the quantity of water needed.
If you`re starting small, you may be comfortable with a nearby well.
If however you`re starting fish farming in Nigeria as a big venture, then, you`ll need a strong well or bore hole and water storage tank.
3 .Pond or plastic thank for housing.
I compared water with oxygen in my above analogy. Here, I’m talking about housing your fish.
Just like you, they need a comfortable place to live.
The more natural and comfortable their pond is, the better for them.
There are two popular fish housing system… backyard plastic tank or pond.
Plastic tank may be good for you if you`re just starting fish farming in Nigeria.
This small scale medium will help you to be familiar with the nature of the fishery business, before you`ll extend your market reach.
Fish pond sizes are also different.
Fish ponds are of various sizes and their cost is vary, depending on your environment and need.
What should you do?
Move out. Visit fish farms around you. Visit fish feeds seller. Visit some experienced break-layers. Ask questions. Ask questions. Ask questions.
The reason why I advise you to go out this way is because, these people will give you the best advice that can be useful to you in that environment, since they are in your vicinity.
If you can’t do this, you can contact us so that we’ll use experienced farmers to help you on this. Click Here to get to our fish farm near you.
After we have provided oxygen and house for our dear fish, what next?
  1. Food. Fish Feeds.

Plants are able to utilize sunlight and simple nutrients to produce new organic material through photosynthesis.
Animal (i.e. fish) cannot do this. That`s why animals need to feed on organic materials such as plants, other animals, or prepared food that contains plants or/and animals.
When feeding our children (sorry, fish. Lol) both quality and quantity has to be taken care of.
Feed them well and with quality fish feed.
There are three means of food for your fish.
  • Natural food. This is found naturally in the pond. This include; detritus, bacteria, plankton, worms, insects, snails, aquatic plants and fish (yes, fish eat fish if they`re hungry).

  • Supplementary feed. This usually include cheap materials locally available such as terrestrial plants, kitchen wastes or agricultural by-products. Supplementary feed may be good, but they are not for serious fish farmer (except if he includes the other types of feeds). Many people who are into fish farming in Nigeria are using supplementary feeds. some to their profit, others to their loss.

  • Complete feed. This is a carefully made fish feed. They`re usually of good ingredient and nutrients, made by the experts who understand the perfect formula for the fish at a different stage.

What You Need To Get Started In Fish Farming
    1. Secure a Land – Any location is good since fish doesn’t cause any environmental disturbance. Look for land where you can get it cheap and buy. Depending on the capacity you wants to operate on, half plot of land is just good enough for average fish farm.
However, you may go for something bigger like full plot or two if you can afford it probably for convenience sake. If you already have a compound with leftover space you thing can accommodate two or three ponds, you may use it.
    2. Construct Ponds – You need to engage the service of expert pond construction engineer or you go to another fish farm to get the specification and construction requirements. The plumbing work must be properly done to ensure proper drainage.
Example of local fish ponds in Nigeria
    3. Dig a Borehole – Adequate water supply is the lifeblood of fish farm and lack of it may result to disaster because water need to be changed on regular interval. Naturally available sources of water such as borehole and river water is the most suitable. Rain water and tap water from chemically treated source is not recommended for fish cultivation.
    4. Overhead Tank – This is the water reservoir from which water is supplied to your ponds. This tank has to be connected to your ponds through plumbing system to make it convenient for water to flow into your ponds when needed.
    5. Juvenile Fish – Get your juvenile from another farm that specializes in supplying it. You need to go for the high yield specie of catfish or tilapia and make sure you are getting it from a healthy farm.
    6. Get Training – Not the kind of training you get from one day seminars; you need to get attached to a fish farm for proper apprenticeship. For you to properly learn this trade, you need at least two months training on this.
Remember that your investment is at stake, trial and error is not good in business except you have unlimited funds to experiment with.
Feasibility Study For Standard Fish Farming
SEE ALSO: Feasibility Study On Poultry Farming For Beginners
This feasibility study prepared for a catfish farm capacity of 10,000 and fingerlings of high breed catfish where to be stocked. The expenses from pond construction to marketing is considered. The farm is to have 10 concrete ponds of flow through system and each pond is to contains 1,000 stocked catfish.
Cost of constructing each pond is as follows.
    Each pond is 3m x 2.5m by 1.4m, each pond consumes 210 blocks and each bag of cement for 30 blocks. Hence 210 x 10 = 2,100 blocks. 2,100/30 = 70 bags of cement needed. 2000 x 70 = 140,000 naira.
    4trips of sand used =7,000×4 = N28,000
    2trips of gravel = 32,000x 2 = N64,00
    Cost of labour = N150,00
Cost of plumbing (inlet and outlet facility) = N100,000.
Cost of bore hole = N150,000.
    Cost of treatment = N50,000.
Cost of high breed fingerlings 30×10,000 = N300,000.
Cost of feeding from day one to maturity stage is 200 bags of foreign feed = N1,000,000.
After the average weight of the fish was 1.7kg. And it was sold at 800 naira each. The output was 800×9800 fishes, due to 200 mortality. 800 x 9800 = N7,840,000.
Input is N3.25’million. The profit is N4.59 million after six months of culture. Following this cost analysis, you can easily invest N3 million and expect good turnover within six months of harvest and sell.
There is no doubt that fish farming is among the list of lucrative businesses in Nigeria. You need to get it right by drawing complete business plan and following it to the later. You need to apply good management skill and follow the acceptable standard. If you do all these, you are sure to make good profit from your fish farming business in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa or where else you choose t set it up.

Nigeria Spends N8.4b To Feed Inmates On Awaiting Trial Yearly

Quote:Fed Govt Spends N8.4b Yearly To Feed 51,614 Pre-trial Inmates
• Experts proffer solutions to prison congestion

The Federal Government spends an average of N8.4 billion yearly to feed awaiting trial inmates and persons in juvenile institutions. The figure excludes 23,217 inmates already convicted and serving various prison terms and 2,251 condemned inmates among whom are 47 females.Daily feeding allowance for each inmate in Nigeria is N450. Multiplied by 30 days, the figure amounts to N13,500 per person. If the population of convicted inmates was added to the figure, it would amount to N3,761,154,000 yearly, totaling N12, 161,154,000 billion for the detainees yearly.

The population of inmates in prisons across the country is put at 75,685. Of this number, 50,760 are awaiting trial, while 854 others, juveniles, are in borstal institutions. This brings the number to 51,614 pre-trial inmates, excluding those in detention facilities of the police, the Department of State Security (DSS), the military and other security agencies, whose feeding costs are not on record.

Ghana and South Africa spend ¢4000 (N320, 000) and R 52.42 (N1,328) to feed an inmate daily, an indication that the population on inmates in Nigeria creates a deep hole in government’s pocket.A retired Controller of Prisons, Dr. Ifediorah Orakwe, disclosed that the actual amount per inmate is N300. He said a breakdown of the N450 allowance would show that N150 was for cooking logistics while N300 was the real cost of feeding an inmate.

Some experts however noted that the amount that meets the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners 2015 (the Nelson Mandela Rules) is N1,500 per inmate daily. If this is adopted, government will spend N27.9 billion to feed pre-trial inmates yearly.

The spokesman of the Nigerian Prison Service, Mr. Francis Enobore, noted that the population of inmates fluctuated as suspects came and went. He expressed worry over the continued detention of persons awaiting trial and the resultant strain on facilities. Some analysts who spoke with The Guardian said urgent moves had to be taken to reduce the number of pre-trial inmates.

Director/founder, Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), Dr. Uju Agomoh, blamed the growing number of awaiting trial inmates on arbitrary arrests and detention by security agencies, calling for an effective coordination among institutions involved in the criminal justice system.

“There must be clear processes, to monitor and track every case. There is need for accountability. There should also be a process of inter-agency coordination. The institutions have to talk to one another,” she said, regretting that a lot of people in detention didn’t have access to legal representation.

Agomoh urged the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and the Legal Aid Council (LAC) to look into cases of inmates who lack proper legal representation, with a view to freeing those who do not deserve to be detained. Director, Access to Justice (A2J), Mr. Joseph Otteh, said: “Decongesting prisons will require effective reform of the criminal justice process, beginning with the point at which many people come in contact with the justice system.

“Arbitrary arrests and whimsical prosecutions will need to be reduced to a minimum. Many poor and vulnerable people are whimsically put through the criminal justice process because some influential people want them to be. And we have seen quite a few cases where these influential people are police or military officers who squabble about girlfriends with their victims.”

Otteh said the courts contribute significantly to the problem. According to him, delays in trials and failure to reform the bail system means many persons awaiting trial are locked up in penitentiary institutions while trials stretch endlessly.

“Some trials for simple offences can run for six, seven or 10 years. If we are able to reform our trial system and ensure that only people who have a legitimate reason to endure a criminal prosecution are processed through that system, we could significantly cut down the population of our prisons,” said Otteh.

The national coordinator of Legal Defence Assistance Project (LEDAP), Mr. Chino Obiagwu, said the problem has persisted because those saddled with managing the criminal justice system are not following the law guiding detention.

“The prosecutors in the Ministry of Justice, prosecutors in the courts, the judges and even the lawyers that defend them, nobody does his job, otherwise, there is no reason a law is made and it is not complied with.

“We are not ready to enforce the laws because people who are involved in pre-trial detention are the poor. That is why they are neglected. If rich people were affected, they would do something about it,” he said.

He noted that if states rather than the Federal Government were involved in funding prisons, they would have a rethink. “The law permits prison authorities to reject awaiting trial suspects because they are not prisoners. Those that are awaiting trial are supposed to have their own remand system. So, it is an aberration. If you free them, there would be enough space for those who are convicted,” Obiagwu added.

  Fish farming: Coping with heat

Fish farming: Coping with heat

An increase in water temperature means a depletion in oxygen levels. How do tunnel-based fish farms cope with extreme heat and ensure that fish receive their required oxygen levels?
The weather over the Christmas period was exceptionally hot across most of Africa. For example in the Eastern Cape, we experienced temperatures well into the 30s, coupled with high humidity, for three weeks. This poses all sorts of difficulties for tunnel-based fish farms. The problem is particularly severe in the Lowveld and provision for cooling is essential here.
Tunnels used in aquaculture typically elevate water temperatures by 6°C to 7°C over ambient. Thus, with no ventilation, water temperatures can rise into the mid-30s or higher.

An unventilated tunnel can experience air temperatures of above 50°C. Such levels, coupled with the 100% humidity, make for very unpleasant working conditions. And if you think you’re suffering, the fish are having a worse time.

Although most tilapia species thrive in water of around 30°C, they do not do well if the oxygen content is low. Water at 32°C holds half the oxygen of water at 22°C. It is usually accepted that an oxygen content of between 4mg/l and 6mg/l is sufficient for tilapia. (Trout need over 6mg/l to survive).

At elevated temperatures, oxygen can decline to as low as 2mg/l to 3mg/l, which severely stresses tilapia.

In green water systems, the photosynthesis of the algae will raise oxygen levels during the day, sometimes to saturation level, but reduce them at night – almost to lethal levels – when the algae take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide.

If the tanks are lightly stocked, that is <10kg/ m3 water, problems are unlikely to occur. However, at high stocking rates of between 25kg/ m3 water and 35kg/ m3 water, typical of many recirculating systems, oxygen depletion is very likely at a high water temperature. It is not usually the high temperature per se that kills the fish, but the lack of oxygen.
Problem signs include fish mouthing the surface near water inlets, especially shortly after feeding. Mass gasping at aeration points is a clear warning signal that urgent action must be taken
Cooling methods

Ventilation:

Every aquaculture tunnel should have the potential to be ventilated. Traditional agricultural tunnels have various methods of ventilation, including end vents, roll-up sides and roof vents. Where possible, a tunnel should be placed end-on to the prevailing wind. This allows for good ventilation and maximum resistance against strong winds. Windows situated at the tunnel ends can be fitted with high-volume fans to force in cooler air.

Flushing:

A bulk water supply in the form of a dam or large reservoir, or water that can be pumped from a borehole in times of emergency, should be available. Flushing the tanks with cooler water not only serves to lower the water temperature, but removes metabolic wastes and allows the oxygen level to rise due to the reduced biological oxygen demand. A higher oxygen level also increases filtration efficiency.

Water systems:
Distinguishing between clear and green water systems is important. In green water systems, oxygen levels are higher when stocking levels are low due to photosynthesis by algae, but these systems are very risky when stocking levels are increased. Clear water recirculating systems are more stable, and also allow for easier monitoring of fish behaviour.

'PDP ELDERS VS PDP REPRESENTATIVE.

Emmanuel Enoidem's supporters attempted to stop the Emmanuel Ekon ans his supporters from attending the PDP flag off yesterday November 20th 2017 and it resulted in a physical combat.

Sir Emem Akpabio, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, Obong Paul Ekpo, Hon. Aniekan Umanah and many others were present but non of them could stop their supporters from fighting the Emmanuel Ekon's supporters but rather, they all smiled.

Today, November 21th 2017, I've been told that the supporters of Emmanuel Ekon retaliated during the ward tour at Emmanuel Ekon's ward and the police officers of Emmanuel Enoidem fired several shots and struck down some supporters of Emmanuel Ekon.

If i may ask:

Dear Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, why would start a war at a place you don't live in?

Why do you secure your self with mobile police officers and left your supporters unsecure?

If you claim that the people of Etim Ekpo rejected Emmanuel Ekon, how come non of the PDP elders did reject the action of the the supporters of Emmanuel Enoidem?

No body has the monopoly violence and what you do to others, othets will do more to you and as your people supporters were booing the Emmanuel Ekon, the supporters of Emmanuel Ekon will boo at Emmanuel Enoidem soon.

How can a PDP SA to the PDP governor be taking off his shirt to fight the PDP supporters of the PDP current house of representative?

Dear Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, your supporters have bitten more than what they can chew and this will definitely affect your ambition and the PDP as a whole.

Dear Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, i esteemed you
higher than what i thought though hoping for you to make some changes.

I hope the opposition parties can step into Etim Ekpo and take the due advantage since the PDP elders fighting to be th god'.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the killing of one of its marshals by suspected armed kidnappers on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

The officers were attacked at Sabo-Wuse Area, on the Niger axis of the highway.

It was gathered that the deceased was traveling in a commercial bus, alongside other passengers when the hoodlums struck at about 6.30am.

Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, who confirmed the official’s death, said two other marshals were abducted by the gunmen.

Kazeem identified the deceased as Marshal Inspector 1, Ardo Njiga, and one of those kidnapped as Senior Road Marshal Assistant, Garba Bello.

“The marshals took permission to be with their families in Kaduna, at the weekend, and were on their way back to Abuja when the attack took place this morning (yesterday).

“Njiga was killed at the scene while Garba and the third marshal were taken to an unknown destination, alongside the other occupants of the bus.

“The matter is now with the security agencies, and it is our hope that our men are rescued and brought back to us alive,” Kazeem said.

Meanwhile, FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, has expressed sadness over the incident and commiserated with families of the victims.

Klopp at a loss after Liverpool 'stop playing'
[Image: klopp-at-a-loss-after-liverpool-stop-pla...013618.jpg]
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was left to explain away his team’s latest defensive collapse after the Reds gave away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 in their Champions League Group E game against Sevilla on Tuesday.

A brace from Roberto Firmino and a Sadio Mané header had seen Liverpool cruising before a second-half fightback saw Guido Pizarro grab an equaliser in the third minute of injury time.

Despite the draw, Liverpool remain top of the group and need just a point from their final game at home to Spartak Moscow next month to make the knockout stages.

“It feels like we lost the game,” Klopp said after the game.

“The description of the game is easy,” Klopp said. “Fantastic first half for us, the second half we made a mistake – we didn’t carry on playing football. It’s normal to try to control the game but a team like us has to control the game with the ball.

“We didn’t play football any more. We became passive, they scored the first, then it was obvious the atmosphere changed immediately.

“That gave them a big boost. Until the second goal we were reactive. After the second goal it was an open game again but we couldn’t score off the counterattacks.

“We opened the door for them, didn’t close it, so they could score in the last minute. That’s the story of the game.”

Klopp refused to accept the collapse suggests that his players could not cope mentally.
"No, it does not. We showed already a fantastic mentality, Dortmund [4-3 in April 2016] being the obvious one, and we showed it in a lot of games.

“Yes it was not perfect tonight but it’s not a general problem. It just happened. In this atmosphere, we need to get more and more experience.

“Could we have done better? 100%. Do I think it’s a mentality problem? 100% not.

“It was misjudgment, we wanted to play like we played the first half and control the game but then we became a little bit passive. It’s football and until the final whistle everything is possible. I knew that before.”

• Group charges Nigerians to stop selling votes
• More people hail Obiano’s victory

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the outcome of last Saturday’s election in Anambra State as a manifestation of the electoral reform, which has begun to bear fruits in the country. The president yesterday also commended the people of Anambra State, the governorship candidates, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers as well as security agencies and other stakeholders, on the peaceful conduct of the November 18 gubernatorial election.
According to the President, “the processes leading to the election and its peaceful conduct and outcome, have shown that our electoral reform is bearing positive fruits.“This is very encouraging and I am determined to give Nigeria free and fair elections, no matter which way the results swing.”
He particularly expressed delight at the conduct of the candidates on the post-election results, describing it as “heart-warming and a renewal of confidence in the sanctity of the ballot which deepens our nation’s democracy.”  Buhari in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, yesterday urged INEC to improve on areas of logistics as the nation braces for coming governorship elections and the main general elections in 2019.

The President while congratulating Governor Willie Obiano on his re-election, urged him to rededicate himself to building on his achievements that endeared him to the electorate and swayed the overwhelming majority of votes in his favour. He assured him that the Federal Government is ready to work with him for the greater harmony, peace and development of not only Anambra State but also the entire country.
He also wished him a successful new term in office. More reactions have continued to trail the outcome as a group, the Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) yesterday charged Nigerians to shun the temptation of selling their votes to politicians and commended INEC, the security agencies and observer groups for the successful conduct of the polls.

A statement by Executive Director of CHRICED, Comrade Ibrahim Zikirullahi, also commended the efforts of security agencies, whose proactive steps to prevent threats to electoral security, made the space safe for voters to exercise their right to democratically elect their governor. It added that going into the 2019 electoral process, the positives from the Anambra governorship election would boost confidence in Nigeria’s ability to deliver free, fair, and credible elections.
The Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzori Kalu, said Obiano won the governorship election clean, free and fair and that the APC is not likely to challenge his victory in court.Kalu congratulated Obiano on his landslide victory and predicted that he will soon join the APC.
Muslims in the state have also congratulated Governor Willie Obiano and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, on their landslide victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
In a statement in Awka, the Secretary- General of the Anambra State Muslim Council, Alhaji Sanni Ejoh, attributed the victory to good governance and grass roots outreach, among others.
Similarly, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) commended the people of the state for conducting themselves peacefully and in an orderly manner despite the number of political parties that fielded candidates during the polls.
In a statement issued by the Secretary General of the Conference, Chief Willy Ezugwu, the umbrella body of all political parties and political associations in the country, CNPP urged INEC to sustain the “level playing field it ensured in Anambra State up to 2019 and beyond.’’
On her part, candidate of the Advanced Congress for Democrats (ACD), Mrs. Oby Okafor, also congratulated Obiano.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has condemned the outcome and the conduct of local government election in Kwara  State.
The APC National Chairman, Engineer Yabaji Sani, who addressed journalists in Abuja, said the stolen mandate of the party’s chairmanship candidate in Edu local government area (LGA), Muhammad Abubakar Muhammad, would be reclaimed through legal means.

Engineer Sani, who also sought justice for those killed during the period, flayed the cases of ballot boxes snatching allegedly perpetrated during the LGA elections.

He supported the call that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INE) should take over the conduct of LGA elections because of the significance of the third tier of government to growth and development.

He said the outcome of the polls won by the All Progressives Congress (APC) placed a moral burden on the Senate President Bukola Saraki, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and the ruling party’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi who hailed from Kwara State.

He said, “Corruption is corruption whether you stole people’s money or it is the peoples’ mandate you stole.

“We urge our people in Kwara to remain calm, while we hope the leadership of the APC will take steps to right the wrong and prove that indeed they are not a bunch of corrupt people fighting corruption.”

The party warned that the cases of electoral malpractices perpetrated in Kwara must not be allowed to happen in the upcoming LGA elections in Akwa-Ibom State.

On the just concluded governorship election in Anambra State, the party commended the INEC, the police and congratulated the APGA and its own candidate of for their gallant outing.

Reds throw away big lead to draw

Liverpool let slip a three-goal lead as Sevilla battled back to earn a dramatic 3-3 draw in their Group E clash at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Tuesday.Sevilla 3 Liverpool 3Firmino opens scoring in second minuteDiving header from Mane makes it 2-0Firmino extends Reds' advantageBen Yedder brace sparks fightbackPizarro rescues draw in added time

Match Summary

Jurgen Klopp's side were three-up at the half-hour mark and went into the half-time break sitting pretty, but Los Rojiblancos staged a fightback of note to clinch a share of the spoils, which saw them move within a point of the Reds at the top of the group.

Full Report

The visitors got off to the best possible start when they scored with their first chance after just two minutes to stun the home crowd.

Georginio Wijnaldum flicked on a corner at the near post and Roberto Firmino was left with a simple tap-in from close range to break the deadlock.

The Andalusians looked to respond as Nolito saw his shot from inside the box tipped onto the right post by Loris Karius on 19 minutes, while Wissam Ben Yedder was inches away from equalising moments later with a strike that fizzed past the left post.

Instead it was the visitors who found the back of the net again on 22 minutes in what was almost a carbon copy of the first goal. Firmino's flick-on from a corner found an unmarked Sadio Mane at the back post and he headed past Sergio Rico from a few yards out.
The Merseyside giants appeared to be running away with the game when they scored a third on the half-hour, with Firmino firing into an open net after Mane's initial shot had been parried into the Brazilian's path by Rico.

Eduardo Berizzo's men had a mountain to climb as they went into the break still three goals down, but they reduced the deficit just six minutes after the restart when Ben Yedder beat Karius with a header from Ever Banega's free-kick.

A mistake from Alberto Moreno on the hour mark opened the door for the hosts as he fouled Ben Yedder inside the box after giving away possession with a poor back-pass. The French striker picked himself up and slotted home the resulting penalty to cut the deficit to one goal.

Karius prevented Sergio Escudero from restoring parity moments later with a volley that he tipped onto the crossbar, but Guido Pizarro sent the home fans into raptures at the death as he turned in a stoppage-time free-kick salvage a point for Sevilla.

NDLEA Arrests Mother With 40kg Of Cannabis

The Edo Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA ) has apprehended a 50-year-old mother of seven, who allegedly hid 40kg of cannabis in a consignment of vegetables.
The state Commander of the agency, Mr Buba Wakawa, confirmed the arrest in Benin on Tuesday.
Wakawa said that the suspect, who lives in Ibadan, was arrested on the Uzebba-Ifon Road on her way to Oyo State with the substance.
He said that the agency recovered four bags of dried weeds which tested positive to cannabis from her consignment of vegetables which included bitter leaves and pumpkin leaves.
According to him, the command has commenced a strategic motorised patrol across the state to intercept cannabis shipment.
“Drug barons usually target end of year.
“This arrest is a product of motorised patrol embarked upon by the state command as a counter strategy to intercept illegal movement of narcotics.
“The target is to promptly cut off supply and prevent drugs from getting to the end users,” Wakawa said.
According to the commander, the suspect claimed that she was a divorce and needed money to register some of her children for West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.
The commander told our correspondent that the suspect would soon be charged to court while her accomplice would be arrested.

Grazing law: Army may deploy soldiers in Benue

If reports of the three major Socio cultural groups in the state, including the Mdzough U Tiv, ldoma National Forum and Omi Ny’lgede of Benue State on the implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition law is anything to go by, the Nigerian Army may have decided to assist in maintaining law and order with an assurance to deploy its personnel to the state to protect the lives and property of the people against any resistance to the law by suspected militant herdsmen.
The groups claimed Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has assured to the deployment of soldiers to assist civil police in keeping the peace in the state.
The promise came following the alarm raised by the leadership of the three major Socio cultural groups in the state, including the Mdzough U Tiv, ldoma National Forum and Omi Ny’lgede over alleged threat by the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore to invade the state with herds of cattle to resist the newly enacted law in the state.
Speaking, on Tuesday, on behalf of the three socio-cultural groups, President General of the Mdzough U Tiv, Chief Edward Ujege said the delegation, through its advocacy had been able to obtain a pledge from the Army chief that troops would be on standby to assist the police in case of an invasion.
Ujege, in a chat with newsmen at the end of the groups’ second leg advocacy visits across the country, said the leaders had also written the leadership of the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Navy and Nigeria Air Force, seeking their support for the successful implementation of the grazing law.
Chief Ujege explained that the ethnic leaders had also petitioned the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Senate President over the matter, to draw their attention to the issue and also solicit their support for the smooth implementation of the law.
Ujege, who noted that the move had started to yield results, explained that the proactive action taken by our socio-cultural organisations has also made the Nasarawa State Government to take precautionary measures to hinder the herdsmen/militia from using the state as launching pad to invade Benue State.
“The responses to our advocacy have been very encouraging with about seven states now contemplating the passage and domestication of similar law in their states, we therefore commend Governor Samuel Ortom for setting a revolution that would change livestock breeding and animal husbandry in Nigeria.”
He therefore appealed to all Benue indigenes to rally round the Governor and give him all the support he requires to make the mission and all his other programmes successful.

Mnangagwa is said to be popular amongst the powerful War Veterans group and the Zimbabwean military chiefs and he’ll over see a democratic election come 2018.

2018 Budgetary spending ‘NOT N8.6trn but around N10trn’
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Jide Akintunde, managing editor and chief executive officer of Financial Nigeria Magazine, says the 2018 budget presented to a joint session of the national assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari, is “worse than nonsense.”
Speaking in an interview with Osasu Igbinedion on the Osasu Show, Akintunde said the budget is grossly unrealistic, adding that it will only increase the debt bucket of the country.
He said with over 50 percent of the 2017 budget unimplemented, the total appropriation of the 2018 budget will be more that the proposed N8.6trn.
“My assessment is that the 2018 budget is worse than nonsense. This budget is exactly what it is given the fact that this government wants to revert to the January-December circle of budget making,” Akintunde said.
“If you then look at the statement by the finance minister, that the 2017 budget will be rolled over into 2018, then I will tell you that the total budget that will be implemented in 2018 is not N8.6trn but somewhere around N10trn.
“50% of the capital vote for 2017 will be carried over into 2018. There are consequences for this. We continue to borrow money to fund these budgets that are grossly unrealistic.
“What you find is that whereas, time passes and these budgets are not implemented but you have the record of what you owe creditors.
“Year in year out, we continue like this and see a rapid build-up of public debt in Nigeria. In the last two years, the public debt increased by N6.3trn.”
Akintunde also said the decision of the government to revert to foreign debt would in the long run amount to problems encountered with domestic debt.
According to him, the delay in the implementation of budgets is politically motivated, adding that a “high degree of absent mindedness goes into the budget making such that it is dead on arrival in terms of meeting its objectives.”
“The key issue with these budgets is not implementation. I don’t think it is implementation. It is actually the fact that there is a high degree of absent mindedness that goes into the budget making such that it is dead on arrival in terms of meeting its objectives.
“The budget is an estimate but it must be near exact estimate. It cannot be some wide figures just being abandoned about.
“Nigeria is now sitting on a time bomb, a public debt time bomb.  In my understanding, an aspect of it has detonated.
“Two years ago, government started an aggressive borrowing in the domestic debt packet. Government single handedly overheated the domestic debt packet. That policy was so short sighted that it did not anticipate that two years on, it will be unsustainable.
“Now they tell us they want to shift focus. They want to re-balance the domestic and foreign debt portfolio in favour of the latter.
“But in one, two, three years down the line, if they follow through with this foreign debt plan, they will also hit the same situation that we have hit with the domestic debt market. They will not be able to borrow money.
“The truth is that we need to bring honesty to a budgeting process. Some the proposals I have written with regards to how to reform the budgetary process will make it very possible for the budget to be passed in 10 days.
“If you automate the budget process, it will eliminate the duplication and replication of budget items.”

IPOB: 'Filing Fresh Documents Every Time Not Allowed' - ECOWAS

Quote:IPOB: 'filing fresh documents every time not allowed,'-ECOWAS court fumes

The ECOWAS court today said filing fresh documents every time by parties in a suit of enforcement of rights filed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu against the Federal government is an attitude not acceptable to the court.

At the resumed hearing today, one of the judges on the three-man panel, Justice Alioune Sall told counsels that they were not in a Nigerian court but an international court which has a different way and "the process of bringing new documents every day is not allowed here."

Counsel to Kanu, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor had told the court that the court had at the last sitting adjourned the case to today for definite hearing.

He said, however, "two days ago, my attention was drawn to a new process filed by the Federal Government challenging the authority of the court to hear the case."

He said the essence of the process filed by the FG was to truncate today's hearing, adding that the application is baseless on the face of it.

"We want the matter to be heard speedily as the court had earlier ordered. But we are sure they (FG) do not have any defence for the substantial suit hence the reason they filed this new process to truncate the day's hearing," he said.

He pleaded with the court to give them a short date to respond to the application. He also asked the court to award a punitive cost of N10 million against the FG.

Responding to Ejiofor's submissions, counsel for the FG, Barrister Maimuna Lami Shiru, an Assistant Director in the Federal Ministry of Justice, said whether the application was baseless or not is left for the court to decide.

She said they filed the application because the court had earlier asked for the issue to be addressed when new facts arise.

She said the application filed on November 14 was to bring to the attention of the court that the group (IPOB) Kanu is leading had been proscribed by the government.

She added that the entire case at the ECOWAS court had been overtaken by events since Kanu had already been granted bail and released from custody, and had subsequently jumped his bail.

Shiru said the court should discountenance the plea of N10million cost against the government since the failure to serve the application on the plaintiff earlier and the inability of the court to conclude the translation of the motion cannot be served on the government.

The three-man panel led by Justice Hameye Foune Mahalmadane who earlier noted that they were yet to receive the translated version of the application, thereafter adjourned the matter to February 7, 2018.

[Image: 2017_11$largeimg22_Nov_2017_013524882.jpg]

The Managing Director of Med-View Airlines, Alhaji Muneer Bankole, has disagreed with Aviation Round Table (ART) which is advocating for a 20 aircraft fleet before an airline can be granted the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC).

Bankole said the number of aircraft to be operated should not be an issue, adding that what matters was the safety of airlines.

He spoke in Abuja at the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) World Aviation Forum (IWAF) which kicked off yesterday.

The ART had in the communiqué issued at the end of its conference said 20 aircraft should be the minimum requirement for issuing AOC to start an airline.

However, Bankole said, “ART cannot talk about AOC or aircraft acquisition; and with due respect to my fathers and brothers at the ART, the idea for the regulator to increase stake on the minimum number of aircraft for operation doesn’t follow.”

Okorocha says 34 governors have endorsed Buhari for 2019

Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state, says all but two governors in the country are in support of a second term for President Muhammadu Buhari.
Okorocha said this while addressing leaders of the ‘Democratic Youths Congress for Buhari 2019′, who visited him at the government house, Owerri on Tuesday.
He urged every Nigerian to support Buhari for a second term, saying there is no “better man for the job than Buhari”.
“President Buhari is the best for the country at the moment and that there could not have been a better option now,” he said.
‘’I am a believer of Buhari and I made it clear years ago that if President Buhari is running for president, I will not run.
“Now God has chosen him to be the president of Nigeria and some of us are witnesses that Buhari was and is still the best for Nigeria at this material time.”
Okorocha also said that Nigeria’s quick exit from economic recession was a testament to Buhari’s tenacity.
While appealing to others to extend the same level of support, he said Buhari’s second term would bring about enhanced unity and peace of Nigeria.
“Supporting Buhari for a second tenure will bring about the new Nigeria we are talking about. This will put Nigeria first and the unity we are looking for will be guaranteed under this administration,” he said.
“Our nation is going through a challenging moment and we will require a man of his calibre to see us through this period.
“People should not use the Anambra election result to judge the support for Buhari as it does not reflect the support.
“Even the government and people of Anambra support President Buhari, what happened was that an internal disagreement among the leaders in APC in Anambra cost us the election.”

Falana denies buying N1 billion Mansion from Embattled Ex-pension boss Maina

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has denied ever meeting the wanted former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, let alone buying any house from him.
Falana said on Tuesday in Lagos, that there was no truth in the claims.
The senior lawyer who has at different times called for the arrest and prosecution of Maina for alleged acts of corruption while reacting to a statement credited to Maina’s lawyer, Sani Katu, said there was no iota of truth in Maina’s claims and challenged
Maina’s lawyer to produce details of the house he supposedly purchased.
“Which house? Where is it located? Is it in Lagos or Abuja,” Falana asked.

Katu, had in a statement issued in Kaduna on Monday accused Falana of attacking Maina as a pre-emptive measure to dissuade Maina from exposing the human rights activist as a beneficiary of the sale of the recovered assets.
Maina’s lawyer who claimed that the Maina Led Pension Reform Task Force Team recovered assets and funds worth N1.6trillion, said one of the assets recovered was a Maitama mansion worth N1billion situated at No 42 Gana Street, Maitama Abuja wh
Falana allegedly purchased.
Katu added that when eyebrows were raised on the transaction, the former chairman the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), then “arranged a fake scenario that one Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, owner of AA Oil, was said to have sold the mansion to Falana at N1billion.”
In his reaction on Tuesday however, Falana maintained that he had never met Maina “Let him give details of the house. I have never met him or had any dealings with him before. He is engaging in the reckless blackmail because I criticized the careless handling of his matter by the federal government,” he said.
Falana stressed that he had only advised the government to act swiftly in prosecuting Maina in order to save the Buhari administration’s anti-corruption policy, whose credibility he alleged had been eroded by the government’s handling of the Maina scandal.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY, 22ND NOVEMBER.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ Distributions Of The Holy Ghost✨

God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will (Hebrews 2:4).

The word translated “gifts” here, doesn’t mean gifts like we have it in 1 Corinthians 12:4, where the word “gifts” is translated from “charisma.” Here, “gifts’ is translated from the Greek word “merismos,” and it means “distributions.” It’s more accurately rendered “distributions of the Holy Ghost,” instead of “gifts of the Holy Ghost,” in the KJV.

What do we mean by distributions of the Holy Ghost? Acts 5:12 says, “And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.” The Word states that many signs and wonders were done by the hands of the apostles. Who are we? We’re God’s outstretched hands. We’re bearers of the divine order. We serve the blessings of the New Testament and one of those blessings is the Holy Ghost; we “distribute” the Holy Ghost. It’s the reason we can lay hands on someone and the person receives the Holy Spirit.

Oftentimes, we say in prayer, “I bless you in the Name of Jesus. I bless you with the Word, and I bless you with the Holy Ghost.” That’s what we’re doing: distributing the blessings of the Spirit. When Jesus blew on His disciples in John 20:22 and said, “… Receive ye the Holy Ghost ,” they received the spirit of understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures. That’s “distribution”; and He’s given us the grace to do likewise. Hallelujah!

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I thank you for the privilege to be not just a beneficiary of the glorious
blessings inherent in the New Testament, but also for the grace and ability to distribute these blessings to others. I pronounce blessings and the favour of God on my friends, family, colleagues, and associates today, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Inside Virgin Atlantic's upper class Dreamliner cabin
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation

As the plane drops violently in the turbulence I grab the side of my pod and my heart leaps.
I’m flying ‘upper class’ with Virgin Atlantic from Johannesburg to London on a Dreamliner. But turning left doesn’t mean that turbulence is turned off. It just means the quality of the drinks being spilled is much higher.
The jolt is so severe that the captain is motivated to apologise to those on board shortly afterwards. ‘Sorry about that ladies and gentlemen,’ he says smoothly. ‘We just caught the edge of a storm back there. I do apologise.’

[*]

There are 31 'espresso leather' seats in the Virgin Atlantic upper class cabin, arranged in a 1-1-1 formation
I relax and sip my stonkingly good Churton pinot noir, from New Zealand – chosen for the upper class wine list by elite London wine merchants Berry Bros & Rudd - and gaze around.
My ‘espresso leather’ seat is one of 31 arranged in a 1-1-1 formation and is supremely comfortably with lots of support. Plus, it has a little footrest that doubles as a seat for a friend, which even has its own seatbelt.

I feel nicely cocooned with leather-trimmed arched dividers on either side preventing those next to me from spying which guilty-pleasure movie I’m watching (OK, fine, it’s Transformers!).
The screen is 11 inches across, which isn’t industry leading, but a definite step-up from an economy screen. It’s manoeuvrable, too – it can be tilted up and down and pushed back and forth with ease.
The seat is highly manoeuvrable as well, with buttons to my right that alter the recline angle.
Back I go while I lap up the Virgin Atlantic service.
The airline has a good reputation in this area and the crew on the trip out to Johannesburg and on this return leg don’t disappoint – they’re friendly, chatty, upbeat and efficient (it takes a matter of seconds to be offered champagne upon boarding).

The food served in upper class is excellent, with choices on Ted's journey including fillet steak in a caramelised garlic sauce with dauphinoise potatoes and mozzarella carpaccio. And the restaurant-standard tablecloth is a nice touch

Illuminating: Upper class seats can be reclined at the touch of a button (left). But passengers must stand up and fold the seat over before using the lie-flat switch (right)

The bar is surely the piece de resistance of the upper class experience. Ted highly recommends gathering here for a few snifters with one's travelling companions
And the fodder and food they bring to my seat is pretty gourmet.
On the way out I tuck into a tender fillet steak in a caramelised garlic sauce with dauphinoise potatoes with a refreshing tomato and mozzarella carpaccio for starters. Tonight I opt for a mushroom risotto and a panna cotta for dessert.
Notable nod-of-approval touches include two very cool salt and pepper pots shaped like little propeller planes with the message ‘pinched from Virgin Atlantic’ on the bottom and a proper linen table cloth.
Dinner over, it’s time for a drink at the bar, surely the piece de resistance of the cabin.
It’s while having a chinwag around this with my travelling companions and a few cheeky snifters that the upper class experience really takes off.
But it isn’t perfection.
I like the feeling of being cocooned in Virgin’s pods – but I’ve experienced business class seats with more storage space – on Finnair’s A330, for instance.
And while the seat folds down at the touch of a button into a very comfy flatbed, it has to be done in two stages. To go from reclining club-style seat to bed you need to stand up, fold the seat over, then hold down a button to flatten it.
A seat that flattens in one movement would be ideal.
And peculiarly, on the return journey, my duvet emerges from its bag feeling cold and damp. Clean, but wet.
A stewardess informs me that one other person has flagged a similar issue.
My guess is that it hasn’t been dried properly by the laundry team.
It doesn’t put too much of a dampener on things, though. I’ve got a (dry) pillow and mattress and once the Virgin Atlantic pyjamas are on (yes, they hand them out mid-flight) I get a solid four or five hours sleep under some blankets fetched by the stewardess.
And I wake up to a tasty full English with a croissant and coffee.
The upper class experience isn’t over yet though.
I head to the stylish ‘revivals lounge’ at Heathrow for a pick-me-up coffee and a banana.

Virgin Atlantic has a good reputation for service - and Ted couldn't fault the staff on both legs of his long-haul journey

[Image: 466B0FDB00000578-5092323-Ted_was_allowed...573584.jpg]

Ted was allowed to sit in the captain's seat at Heathrow before take-off. Here the captain reassured him that 'yes, I do know what all the buttons do'
The lounge offers a lot more though – showers, full breakfasts and even a shirt pressing service, so that anyone going straight to work can arrive looking pin sharp.
It’s impressive, but not as impressive as the Virgin Clubhouse we hang out in before our outward flight from Heathrow. This is so good it poses a threat to boarding the aircraft on time.
It boasts a 14-metre cocktail bar, power showers and a spa that offers everything from haircuts to manicures.
No wonder it's a legend among lounges.
And I arrive there having been chauffeured in a flash Merc to a private check-in area by Virgin’s limo service. There I’m in a queue of zero and a member of staff even takes my bag from the boot of the car to the luggage conveyor belt for me, before I negotiate the private security area.
Here one other solitary traveller has the effrontery to delay me by a handful of seconds.
Virgin Atlantic upper class? The odd damp duvet aside, it’s sheer class.

Rights Groups Demand Arrest, Prosecution Of Kwara Senator Lafiagi For Alleged Murder
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-21-2017, 03:18 PM - No Replies

Eight civil society organizations have called for the arrest and prosecution of Mr. Shaaba Lafiagi, a senator representing Kwara State, for the alleged extra-judicial killing of four of the students protesting against the shoddy representation has provided for his constituents.
The four young men were shot dead by soldiers attached to Mr. Lafiagi on Friday.
The rights groups made their demand in a statement jointly signed by their leaders.
Among the signatories were Messrs. Charles Ofemi of Kwara Youth Stakeholders Forum, Abdulrazak Hamzat of Kwara Must Change, Ibrahim Garba Wala of Citizens Action To Take Back Nigeria and  Idris Ahmed of Citizens United for Peace and Security. Others were Ahmed Buhari of Cabal Must Go, Miriam Yakubu of Be The Change Organization, Olatunji Yusuf of Legacy Must Change and Daniel Seun of Citizens of Impact.
According to the statement the deceased were killed during a peaceful protest against the poor quality of representation Mr. Lafiagi has provided.
The groups noted that the unfortunate incident has been confirmed by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies.
"The reprehensible occurrence, which led to the brutal execution of defenseless, unarmed and peaceful protesters happened as a result of high level irresponsibility, rascality and lack of maturity, which propelled Senator Muhammed Shaa’aba Lafiagi to order soldiers to execute protesting youths, who were merely expressing their disaffection with the senator’s lack of proper representation of the people," the groups said.
While condemning the development, the groups stated that the protesters were well within their rights to express their displeasure in a peaceful manner. They noted that Mr. Lafiagi is one of those that have completely given up on their constitutional duties to look after the welfare of their constituents.
"For many years, the main road that leads into Lafiagi town has been in a very bad state. It was not motorable for quite some time. This includes a dilapidated culvert at Sobo. In order to fix this problem that has clearly affected the economy and mobility of the good people of Lafiagi town, the patriotic youths of the town mobilized financial resources and fixed half of the road.
"When the Senator showed up with his entourage on Friday, the youths stopped his convoy and asked him to own up to his responsibility by fixing the remaining half. Instead of placating the youths by showing maturity and leadership, the bloodthirsty Senator Mohammed Sha'aba Lafiagi called on upon trigger happy soldiers, who opened fire on the peaceful demonstrators," the groups recalled.
They stated that the lawmaker has become a law breaker and must not escape from the wrath of the law, as the killing was a needless waste of human life. In addition, the rights groups reasoned that it is because of the presence of tyrants like Mr. Lafiagi in the federal legislature that no laws will be made for the benefit of the masses.
"In view of this unfortunate situation, we the undersigned Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) aver that the days of impunity and extra-judicial killings are well and truly over in Nigeria and we therefore demand that the Inspector General of Police, as a matter of urgency, order the arrest and prosecution of Senator Lafiagi and his trigger happy soldiers within two weeks, else we will call for civil action against the politicians in National Assembly. This demand should be taken very seriously and acted upon with immediate effect because justice delayed is justice denied," the groups demanded.

Nigerian Airplane Pilots, Engineers To Ground Dana Air Operations Tuesday Over Anti-U
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation
Posted by: Edoman - 11-21-2017, 03:15 PM - No Replies

Barely 72 hours after talks between the management of Dana Air and the leadership of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) collapsed due to disagreement over unionization, the latter has perfected plans to ground the operations of the airline tomorrow, Tuesday.
SaharaReporters gathered that the strike will begin nationwide at 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
A source close to the union informed our correspondent that NAAPE leadership has notified all its members in aviation agencies and other airlines of its plans to picket the airline on Tuesday.
The source said the union is taking the move following the reluctance of Dana Air to allow its engineers and pilots to join the union despite deducting the check-off dues from their monthly salaries.
A document obtained by our correspondent indicated that the check-off dues of the technical personnel in the airline from January to September 2017 had grown to N999,000.
No fewer than 15 pilots and engineers from the airline had filed the NAAPE membership forms and submitted them to the management by the union between March and June 2017.
It would be recalled that during a meeting convened by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) last Friday to discuss the issue of unionization in Dana Air, the two parties failed to find common ground.
Before the weekend meeting, NCAA had mediated previous meetings with the two organizations. In one meeting, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the duo, only for Dana Air to renege on the agreement reached with the union and the industry regulator.
A source close to the meeting told our correspondent that Dana Air was represented by its Group Human Resources Manager, Mr. Anand A.B., and the Secretary of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Mr. Ewos Iroro. Mr. Ocheme Aba, the General Secretary, along with Mr. Charles Erikefe, Mr. Abednego Galadima, Mr. Femi Agbaje, Assistant General Secretary, and Comrade Umoh Ofonime, Deputy General Secretary, represented NAAPE at the meeting.
NCAA, which convened the meeting, was represented by Mr. Meduoye Anthony, Manager Corporate and Planning as the Chairman, Mr. Ayalsa Anthony, General Manager, Human Resources, Mr. Yakmap Julius, Assistant General Manager, Manpower Development and Training, and Mr. Ben Azeh as the Secretary at the meeting.
At the last meeting, it was gathered that Dana Air refused to abide by the earlier agreement, which led NCAA to remove itself from further mediation between the two parties.
In a related development, our correspondent further gathered that apart from Dana Air, the union may also picket operations of Med-View Airline and Air Peace before the end of the year over the same issue.

SENATOR representing
Abia South, Eyinnaya
Abaribe yesterday accused
the Chief of Army, Lt. – Gen.
Tukur Buratai, of frustrating
his role as a surety for the
bail granted the leader of
the proscribed Indigenous
People of Biafra, IPOB,
Nnamdi Kanu, by a Federal
High Court in Abuja.
Abaribe stated this in
a fresh motion he filed
before the court where
he and Kanu’s two other
sureties had been ordered
to explain the IPOB leader’s
whereabouts.
The senator had earlier
filed a motion seeking to be
discharged as Kanu’s surety,
but the trial judge, Justice
Binta Nyako directed during
the previous proceedings of
October 17, that the senator
could not withdraw his
surety-ship until Kanu was
produced before the court.
Kanu, who is being
prosecuted alongside others on charges bordering on
treasonable felony, was
yesterday absent from court
for the second time after the
alleged invasion of his home
in Abia State by soldiers on
September 14, since when he
had been declared missing
by his family.
But Abaribe was
physically present in court
yesterday, stating in his
fresh motion filed through
his lawyer, Chukwuma
Machukwu Ume (SAN), on
November 17 that he should
not be held responsible for
non-availability of Kanu
to attend court for his trial,
but alleged that Kanu’s
unknown whereabouts was
caused by the “whimsical,
capricious, subversive and
extra-judicial self-help”
embarked upon by the Chief
of Army Staff.
The senator maintained
that the Chief of Army Staff
was aware of the pending
charges against Kanu when
he allegedly deployed
soldiers to “forcefully and
violently” invade the IPOB
leader’s home in Afaraukwu
Ibeku, Umuahia, in Abia
State on September 14.
He noted that the conducts
of the COAS on the
deployment of the soldiers
were with “most probable
effect” of preventing him
(Kanu) from attending court
to continue his trial.
He said he opted to
be Kanu’s surety out of
“patriotic consideration of
assisting the judicial process
to defuse the tension already
generated in the polity.”
His lawyer, Ume, argued
in the motion that the Chief
of Army Staff’s “extra –
judicial self – help conduct
obviously frustrated the
proceedings and course of
administration of justice
(in the bail and bail bond
granted and executed in
Charge No. FHC/ABJ/
CR/383 /2015).”
The lawyer maintained
that the “actions have
brought the honourable
court to some ridicule and
its power appear nugatory
as well as placing in a fixed
up position.”
The senator therefore
sought in the fresh motion
prayed for an order
directing the Chief of Army
Staff to explain to the court
why the Attorney-General
of the Federation should
not “be compelled to
initiate contempt charges /
proceedings against him for
his extra-judicial self – help
conducts.”

I am under pressure to set up a new national Airline – Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Politics

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is under tremendous pressure from many patriotic Nigerians desirous of establishing a new national carrier while emphasizing the determination of his administration to speed up the improvement of aviation infrastructure for the benefit of the country’s economic development.
Speaking while receiving the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Muyiwa Aliu, at the State House, Abuja on Monday, he declared his total support and commitment to work with regulatory agencies in the aviation sector to make air travel safer throughout the country.
The President, who received three awards recently won by Nigeria from ICAO, expressed delight with the high ranking accorded Nigeria in safety and security at the airports, following measures put in place to address gaps in airport security.
On the setting up of a national airline, Buhari said “I equally support a national airline for both patriotic and economic reasons. We have enough trained citizens including pilots and engineers.

“But Nigerians need to know how we lost the one we had before,” he said, referring to the defunct Nigeria Airways.
Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who led the ICAO delegation, informed the President that the Nigeria was hosting the meeting of International World Aviation Forum in Abuja starting on Tuesday, the first time such conference will hold anywhere outside Montreal, Canada.
He said over 40 aviation ministers and representatives from 70 countries, the World Bank, African Development Bank, manufacturers of planes and aviation equipment will attend this year’s conference focusing on “Financing Development of Aviation Infrastructure.”
President of ICAO, who is a Nigerian, commended Buhari for fast-tracking policy initiatives that changed the fortunes of air travel in Nigeria, describing the reconstruction of the runway at the Abuja airport as a rare feat.
On behalf of the ICAO, Mr Aliu presented a certificate of recognition of the School of Aviation, Zaria as a regional center of excellence; the certification of both Abuja and Lagos airports which have attained ICAO standards for the first time in history, and another certificate marking the attainment of the International Organization for Standardization ISO 9001, 2015 by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

We Have No Confidence In CONFAB Report- Presidency
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-21-2017, 02:53 PM - No Replies

The presidency on Monday put paid to any hopes of the implementation of the recommendations contained in the report of the 2014 National Conference (Confab Report), clarifying that it has no confidence in the report of the conference which it said was a tool to buy goodwill from certain parts of the country.

This is as it said President Muhammadu Buhari is fit enough to seek re-election for the presidency in 2019, despite the ill health that has plagued him since the beginning of his tenure.

The presidency also disclosed that it is awaiting the outcome of the investigations by the National Assembly on the circumstances of the return and reinstatement of fugitive former Chairman of the Presidential Pension Reforms Task Force, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, into the civil service, before taking a definitive action on the matter.

These details were revealed by presidential spokesmen, Mr. Femi Adesina, Mr. Garba Shehu and Mr. Laolu Akande, when they appeared on THISDAY’s sister network, Arise News Channel, yesterday morning.

Adesina, who is the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, said the All Progressives Congress (APC), which Buhari is a member, already indicated that it has no confidence in the conference, right from the time it was convened.

Adesina said this is response to comments by former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, that he could not implement the report because it was submitted in the twilight of his administration.
Jonathan, speaking in his goodwill message at the Integration Summit Roundatable in Abuja last Sunday, said the report holds the key to reshaping and consolidating the necessary common grounds and shared values, needed to move Nigeria forward.

But Adesina said the ex president could have implemented the recommendations of the report, if he really wanted to.
“Right from the beginning of the confab, the APC had said it didn’t have confidence in it. The good thing is that it (APC) made itself clear on that. Between the time when the conference submitted its report and the time when that government ended, the then president could have implemented it if he wanted.

“I know that it is in the papers today, he was explaining why he didn’t implement it but the government could implement the report if it wanted, if it was not strictly a political tool just to buy goodwill from certain parts of the country,” he said.

Also speaking on whether the president would contest in 2019, Adesina said only the president himself can provide an answer to that.
“The president is the one who answer that question, and a time will come when an answer must come,” he said.

Adesina also tackled the disobedience of several court orders ordering the release from detention of former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), and the Head of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
Maintaining that the administration of Buhari is one that thrives on strict adherence to the rule of the law, Adesina said the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Abubakar Malami, is in a better position to offer perspectives on why the men have not been released.

“This administration respects the rule of law. If there are some cases that constitute issues, the best person to address those issues would be the AGF. He would be able to tell from the perspective of law, why those cases are different. But as far as we can see, from practical examples, verifiable cases, the president respects the rule of law,” he explained.
Adesina also talked insinuations of perceived silence from the president on the herdsmen attack in different parts of the country, stating that Buhari already gave marching orders to the heads of all security agencies to tackle the menace.

He also defended the recent launch and public presentation of the book on Buhari’s achievements: Making Steady, Sustainable Progress for Nigeria’s Peace & Prosperity, a midterm scorecard on the President u Buhari administration.
“There are some who say the president has not done anything, and if they continue to trumpet it, some people may be deceived. That is why we decided to do an encyclopedia of his achievements,” he said.
The book, Adesina added, provides information on the achievements of the government in the three focal areas of security, economy and anti-corruption.

Garba Shehu was however more emphatic on the presidential bid for 2019 without categorically clarifying whether or not the president would contest the presidential election.
“ That is the perfect answer (Adesina’s response) but if you ask that question; is he good enough, is he fit enough? I can tell you the president is very well and good enough to go,” he said.

Shehu, who is the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the President, also indicated that Buhari is waiting on the National Assembly, before he takes a definite action over the scandal and embarrassment caused by the controversial recall of Maina. The matter is currently being investigated by an adhoc committee of the Senate.

“Maina, yes, is a sore point. As we speak, the National Assembly is also investigating the issue. It would not be reasonable if the president is judgmental or rushes into judgement on this matter. Supposing, something comes from the National Assembly asking him to do this or that, that would be awkward, if he had already determined this matter. This government, like all governments, has to work together as one: the judiciary, executive and Legislature and that is what you are seeing,” Shehu said.

He also debunked insinuations that the president is slow to act on corruption allegations involving his associates, explaining that under a constitutional government, the president has no powers to stop anti-graft agencies from carrying out investigations, or to stall such investigations.

“If there is a failure to get it done, please ask the agencies,” the presidential spokesperson said, added.
“No government has taken the fight (anti-corruption) this far, as this government as done. There has never been as many number of convictions, there has never been as much recoveries of funds, there has never been so highly placed people undergoing trial in the history of this country. “

All the President can do is allow EFCC do their job, they make arrests, they charge to court, it is removed from his hands, he cannot tell them what to do,” he added.
Garba also speaking on Boko Haram, said 90 percent of the job has already been done, and the pockets of attacks being reported are regular when terrorism is being tackled. He however expressed optimism that the attacks would stop all together with the pressure being sustained by the military.

The spokesman to the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande, who briefly featured on the show, had earlier said the administration is committed to economic development of the country and ensuring that its poverty alleviation programs touch the lives of Nigerians.

He listed the School Feeding program, N-Power program, Loan scheme and conditional cash transfer as programs that are making impact, with plans being made to expand them.

“The president has maintained a useful interaction with the private sector including a quarterly presidential briefing, economic management team, the industrial competitive council with people like Dangote (Aliko) and Peterside (Atedo). A lot of ideas are coming up on how to do PPP, in the areas of infrastructure, developing a kind of blue print on how to get the private sector to do some of these things,” he said.

Suicide Bomber Kills 30 Worshippers In Adamawa Mosque (Graphic Photos)

Many worshippers were on Tuesday killed when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive at a mosque in Mubi, Adamawa State, during morning prayers.

The suicide attack occurred around 5:20am local time, at Kunu Araha, a suburb in Mubi North.

It was allegedly triggered by a yet to be identified teenage boy who set off the suicide vest he was wearing.

Adamawa police spokesman, Othman Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said more than 30 persons lost their lives in the dawn mosque attack.

“We were made to understand that there was a bomb blast at a mosque in Mubi and over 30 lives were lost. A boy about 17-year-old wearing a suicide vest entered the mosque along with other worshippers.

"Immediately after the prayers, he detonated the bomb. Many of the wounded are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Mubi North where the attacks occurred around Kunu Araha area” he said.

He noted that several other persons wounded in the attacks are receiving medical attention at various medical hospitals in Mubi Town.

Speaking on the attack, the chairman of Mubi North Local Government Area, Musa Bello, said “the suicide bomber struck at the mosque during the morning prayer. Though for now we are still compiling the casualty figure, reports say that over 15 to 20 people were reported killed.”

While details of the blast are still sketchy, Governor Muhammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow has condemned the unfortunate incident.

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Press and Media Affairs, Martins Dickson, Bindow expressed described the incident as “an act of wickedness perpetrated by criminals who are bent on destroying the hard earned peace in Mubi and other parts of the state.”

“We will continue to ensure that our people are protected and given a sense of security which is the most important responsibility of any government.

“We have also engaged all security agencies to ensure that this type of wicked act does not repeat itself in any part of the state.”

The governor also called for calm among residents, assuring that security had been stepped up in Mubi and its environs and that his government would not rest until those behind the wicked act are brought to book.

How Diezani Forced Jonathan To Sack Me – Stella Oduah
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Former Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, has alleged that former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani-Alison Madueke, forced ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to sack her.

She made the claim in an upcoming book, ‘On a Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’, written by the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bolaji Abdullahi, who also served under Jonathan.

According to Oduah, Jonathan called her to explain herself after the news about the $1.6million BMW armoured cars bought for her by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) was reported.

She revealed that Alison-Madueke and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, were present at the meeting.

“I thought she had my back. I did not know at the time that she was actually fuelling it and orchestrating all the media attacks,” she told Abdullahi.

“I knew all along that Diezani could not deal with having another female around who had the kind of access I had to the president. But she went too far.

“She thought I was the one who leaked the issue of private jet that put her into trouble with the House of Representatives (Diezani was accused of spending N10 billion on chartered jets). For her it was payback time.”

“Diezani was paying people to keep the story alive. At the same time, she was whispering in [the president’s] ears that he had to take action,” Oduah said

16-year PDP mistake still better than APC’s 30 months of calamity - Lamido
User Avatar Forum: Politics

The National Volunteers for Lamido (NVL) has declared that if 16 years of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still far better than the All Progressive Congress (APC) 30 months of calamity under President Muhammadu Buhari, reports ITRealms.

NVL, a political support group in a press statement made available to ITRealms in Abuja, noted that whatever the PDP did, it left the scene over two years ago and that exit provided Nigerians the opportunity to gauge the standard of performance.

The National Coordinator of NVL, Umar Danjani Hadeja, insisted that “From the economy, foreign relations where an APC government has decided to make caricature of the country, its leadership and people, security, wage theft, misapplication of resources and the lack of vision at all levels. This is total disaster.”

The group also accused the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, of deliberately choosing to feed the public with falsehood and obvious inaccuracies, deliberate misinformation and even mischief bordering on denial and selective amnesia.

Reacting to Shehu’s attempted response to a recent interview granted by a former Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, wherein he fielded questions on his presidential ambition and the state of his party, the PDP, as well as some snippets on reasoned insights on President Muhammadu Buhari's leadership style, the All Progressives Congress government and the future of Nigeria and the place of her youth.

The group particularly caricatures the Presidential Spokesperson for relishing in quackery whenever he ventures into the laborious attempts at rebuttals or rejoinders, more often with scant regard for the truth.

“Clearly, Garba's attempted response to the said Sule Lamido interview is yet  another classic example of the PR disaster and liability that he now represents for the Buhari administration. Surely, we would care less for this misfortune of an appointee of Mr. President who is fishing and scavenging desperately for ‘stuff’ that would make him look useful in a job he clearly does not know how to do. His brazen and intellectually lazy import-substitution mission for issues never raised in the interview in the effort to tar Alhaji Sule Lamido with a dirty brush is at best mischievous, unprofessional and a  damning verdict on Garba” NVL boss said.

While describing the attempt by Shehu “to tar Alhaji Sule Lamido with a dirty brush” as mischievous, unprofessional and a damning verdict on the presidential spokesman, the group also expressed concern over the feeble and failed attempt to address or “attack” the facts of the matter raised in the interview.

It took a swipe at the presidential spokesman for falsely accusing Lamido of impugning the integrity of the nation's judicial system and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission when, in actual fact “the government is itself destroying” these two institutions.

It said: “Where, for instance, did Garba see any reference to these institutions in the said interview? Did he at all read the interview or in the classic case of playing the 'Boss', lazily rely on some subordinates who supposedly drew his attention to a publication he never sighted? And as if this was not shameful enough, he brazenly proceeded to blindly issue a 'rejoinder' to a publication he apparently knew nothing about. This is a further injury to the image, integrity and ethics of the journalism profession.”

According to the group, Shehu has thrown up the poverty of the government's effort to water down any serious effort to address our national ills, adding: “His usual habit of ignoring facts was manifest in his attempt to defend his party rather than the government's confused approach to implementing the agenda it promised.”

The group said Lamido would not be deterred, distracted or cowed by the shenanigans of the likes of Shehu, stressing that as a statesman and nationalist whose sole driving impetus is improvement in the material condition of the ordinary Nigerian citizen as well as carving a place of high repute for Nigeria in the comity of nations, “Alhaji Sule Lamido is forging ahead with steely determination and singleness of purpose.

“Lamido will continue to speak truth to power and call out the APC government in all its numerous failings. No amount of name-calling, falsehood, character assassination or intimidation will do the trick. Not from Garba Shehu, not from anyone else. The APC government must shape up or ship out, or else expect the Sule Lamidos of this country and they are in the  majority now, to continue to call it out.”

Still comparing the PDP government with the current administration, the group further drew attention to what is called confusion and lies, cross messaging and open confrontation among various officials of government even while brazenly engaged in corrupt practices of various kinds as widely reported in the media.

It said: “This is worse than a calamity for a developing nation like ours. Garba should encourage the government he serves to investigate those cases instead of chasing shadows and silhouettes. If you check the markets, prices have skyrocketed. There is  unemployment, poverty and hunger, which bad effects have shot over the roofs, while some officials, including Garba, are smiling as they hide their loots from this government. These stories have become daily doses of media reportage. Time shall tell.”

Maintaining that the antecedents of everyone given opportunity of service speaks for him or her, the group contended that Lamido comes across as a deliverer of promise, challenging anyone in doubt to visit Jigawa State to understand the difference between the Lamido years and the present reality.

NVL said: “Every visible productive project of stature dotting the entire landscape was initiated and completed by him.

“The essential Alhaji Sule Lamido is a quintessential leader who is and still loved by the people, among whom he lives to date. He speaks his mind, no matter who is involved. In the process, he has encountered and also survived the vicissitudes of politics while serving his fatherland. This has, over the years, shaped his vision with courage of conviction and strength of character. You may confirm by the kind and nature of people around him and his associates.

“Unlike Alhaji Sule Lamido, Garba is inconsequential inconsistent, foul mouthed and practicing quackery as public affairs management. Therefore, our final word and free consultancy for Garba is this: ‘Attend a refresher course on how not to be a Public Affairs assistant. We understand one such course is scheduled for some time in the year 2019, otherwise, you will remain an albatross on President Buhari's neck. Nigerians are watching.’”

LASG Gives Mosques, Churches 90-day Ultimatum Over Noise Pollution

?

Worried by the proliferation of noise  in residential areas, the Lagos State government has handed down 90-day ultimatum to churches and mosques to sound-proof their premises or risk closure.
The section 9 of the law establishing Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) empowered the agency to make regulations on acceptable standards or criteria to control the pollution level of water, air, noise and land in consonance with the federal government guidelines and policies and criteria on the environment.
It however fixed the maximum permissible noise limit for mixed residential areas with some commercial and entertainment to 55 dba from 6-10pm and 45 dba from 10pm-6am.  Commissioner for environment, Dr. Samuel Adejare , who stated this at a parley with church representatives in Lagos warned that state’s zero tolerance to noise pollution was still in force.
He regretted the influx of religious centres in various residential areas in the state adding that the ultimatum was as a result of complaints by residents on the extent of noise in places of worship.
Adejare maintained that any noise above the approved noise levels contravened the provisions of the National Environmental Noise Standard and Controls regulations 2009 as well as the Lagos State Environmental Laws 2017.
He emphasised the need for places of worship to carry out their activities orderly without infringing on the rights of residents.
According to him, “The paramount commandment is to love God and love your neighbour as yourselves.”
The commissioner solicited the support of religious centres in adhering to government rules on noise levels adding that they were mandated to operate in an enclosed and soundproof environment using regulated speakers.
“Various structures ranging from residential plots, uncompleted buildings, open spaces, shops and motor parks are being converted to religious worship centres which is not befitting for a mega city like Lagos,” he concluded.

Here is why women started to lie down flat during childbirth and why it's not the best method
[Image: pregnant-black-woman.jpg]
During labour and childbirth, The scene is mostly the same: woman on a bed, white gown, looking sweaty and screaming blue murder, while pushing and doling out witty put downs to her husband, who stands awkwardly to one side or outside if it's a general (Government) hospital in Nigeria.
It's not a pretty picture and certainly not one that played out during childbirth in days gone by – or more specifically over 300 years ago.
For starters, there never even used to be a bed in childbirthing. The idea of giving birth on a bed wasn't actually introduced until around the 1700's, and according to hypnobirthing expert Katharine Graves, it was only introduced at the request of King Louis XIV.
Writing in her well-known publication The Hypnobirthing Book, Katharine explains that women only began to give birth flat on their backs not because it aided labour, but because King Louis XIV wanted to see his mistress give birth.
However, at the time, women generally laboured at the time squatting on stools, and the midwife would usually be at floor level to meet the baby.
'But kings don't grovel on the floor, so it all had to be frightfully proper and his mistress had to lay in a bed,' Katharine writes.
Women in the king's court copied this, and midwives found they had much more difficulty getting babies out when mothers lay flat, so doctors were called in a lot more often.
Soon word spread and everyone started giving birth laying down, believing that if it was done in the royal household then it must be for the best.
Katharine, who is a leading hypnobirthing teacher and associate member of the Royal college of Midwives, however, claims that squatting is one of the best and most natural positions for childbirth, because 'you have gravity on your side and you have the maximum pelvic capacity [in this position].'
Squatting helps baby to deliver more swiftly and easily than when laying on your back – like the movies.
If you lay on your back, not only do you not have gravity on your side but your body is actually working against you.
During childbirth the baby moves down towards the coccyx, which has a natural curve up. When squatting, this flexes and moves, but if you are lying on your back, the curve gets in your baby's way as it makes its way down the birth canal. Labour is then so much harder and more uncomfortable for the mother.  Makes sense! Imagine lying down flat to push out very strong poop, it won't come as easily as squatting.
When a baby squats to birth a baby, gravity naturally helps and the baby pushes out more easily than when she is lying down flat with her back on the bed.
If anyone has tried the squatting method, share in the comment box.

F resh report as crisis is brewing between the Federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, over alleged non-remittance of Union Check-Off Dues and Cooperative deductions totalling over N5billion.
Meanwhile this indication emerged after the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting held last week in Abuja.
The NEC of the academic union had set up committee to advise it on the request by university administrators for Tax Identification Number (TIN) from Union branches and Non-remittance of check-off dues and cooperative deductions.
Speaking with newsmen on the issue, the Chairman, ASUU University of Ibadan, Dr Deji Omole said over N300 million of check-off dues and Cooperative monies of University of Ibadan academic staff are currently trapped making it difficult for those in need to access welfare support.
He said unions should not be asked to pay tax by Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, as they are not registered as a business entity warning that the union may be poised for another showdown with the federal government if the issue is not addressed quickly.
Omole further disclosed that the NEC of ASUU has resolved to write Ministers of Labour, Employment and Education to the effect that “the requirement of TIN for Union dues and deductions is an anti-labour policy which portends danger for industrial harmony”
“The union should re-invigorate its efforts in insisting that the peculiarities of Universities be incorporated into the new version of GIFMIS. Check off dues and Cooperative contributions are a product of already taxed incomes, hence there is no need whatsoever for TIN”, he said.

EFCC Obtains Warrant to Detain Pius Anyim for 30 days
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-21-2017, 12:48 PM - No Replies

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured a remand warrant to further detain a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius, who was arrested by the EFCC last Thursday.
Anyim is being investigated for allegedly collecting N520m from a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), on the eve of the 2015 presidential election.
He also allegedly awarded contracts worth N13bn to companies he had interests in.
The remand warrant, it was learnt, would enable the anti-graft agency to keep Anyim in custody beyond the stipulated time allowed by law.
The move, according to EFCC, is to enable its operatives to conduct proper investigation into how he got the money, what it was used for and who the beneficiaries were.
A source at the EFCC to the PUNCH, “Yes, we have obtained a remand warrant to hold the former SGF for about 30 days. This will help us to conduct investigations properly and verify his claims.”
Apart from allegedly receiving funds from Dasuki, the former SGF was accused of false assets declaration and using proxies and companies in which he had interest to corner contracts from the ecological funds.
The source said Anyim allegedly awarded contracts to some companies linked to him through which ecological funds were diverted.
The companies include: Foundation Years Limited, Precious Integrated, Precious Petroleum, Mak & Mak, Chap Construction, Eldyke Engineering, Pryke Limited, Chipa Nigeria Limited, Prima A11 Limited, Pima International, Chanto Engineering, Ishiagu Microfinance Bank, Mulak Ventures, Vitro Engineering and Tip Top Nigeria.
The source added, “Anyim was SGF from May 2011 to May 29, 2015. During this period, specifically May 2012 to May 2015, the SGF Ecological Fund Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria received an inflow of N58,146,983,677.85.
“From this fund, three of the companies linked to Anyim, Foundation Years, Obis Associate and Eldyke Engineering, received contracts worth over N13bn. Foundation Years alone received a net payment of N10,308,017,838.85 between 2014 and 2015.
“Curiously, on receiving the fund, Foundation Years and another Anyim company, Br-Kthru made several transfers to 37 entities. Some of the organisations and individuals have no nexus at all with ecological issues. Investigators are probing the reasons behind the wild disbursement.”
A House of Representatives panel had in March asked the EFCC and the Code of Conduct Bureau to investigate Anyim and a former FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, over the Centenary City project

Boko Haram kills six farmers in NE Nigeria

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the killing is the latest in a string of attacks in the violence-wracked North-east, where more than 20,000 people have been killed in nine years of insurgency.
The killing occurred on Sunday, while the farmers worked on their farms in the plantation, a witness, Jiddah Ahmad, told a NAN correspondent in Jere town, near Maiduguri on Monday.
Mr. Ahmad said the insurgents abducted seven farmers as they worked on their farms and slaughtered six of them in a nearby bush.
Mr. Ahmad, who is a younger brother to one of the slain farmers, said that two of the victims were from Lawanti Gongulon Village in Jere.
According to him, the remaining four are from Masu Community in the Mafa Local Government Area of the state.
“My brother was working on the farm together with other farmers. They were accosted by the insurgents when they went to fetch water at a river.
“The insurgents shot my brother before beheading him and beheaded another farmer on the same spot while an old farmer was set free”, Ahmad said.
A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, Usman Muhammad, also told NAN that the insurgents had earlier slaughtered four other farmers at the same plantation.
Mr. Muhammad disclosed that the insurgents came to the farm on motorbikes and attacked the farmers.
He said that the insurgents forced an aged farmer among the abductees to witness the brutal murder of other farmers, telling him to convey the message to families of the victims.
“We are currently seeking clearance from the military authorities to enable us to evacuate the corpses for proper burial”, he said.
The military and police authorities have yet to make statements on the latest killings.
The military authorities have said that they have degraded Boko Haram but the group has continued to launch attacks on soft targets on a regular basis.
Nigeria’s North-east has remained the hotbed of the insurgency which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced many others.

In 2018, a final instalment of US$2.5 million will be disbursed to support these HIV programs, amounting to a total contribution of US$5 million by Chevron.
These funds are in addition to US$6.7 million earlier donated by Chevron to the Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) in Bayelsa State of Nigeria.
"The ART Program will help bridge a critical national health gap and continue Chevron's work in achieving an AIDS-free generation. The program will help reduce new HIV infections and improve the quality of life for people living with HIV and other affected people in the communities of the targeted states.
Additionally, it will provide Nigerians with universal access to high-quality, patient-centered prevention, diagnosis and treatment services for tuberculosis, HIV and drug-resistant tuberculosis by 2020.'
These disbursements are part of a nine-year, US$60 million commitment from Chevron to the Global Fund.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole thanked Chevron for the gesture and noted that the efforts of the company over the years exemplify the private sector support for health intervention programmes in Nigeria.
"We are happy about what Chevron is doing to support government's efforts in the fight of HIV and other diseases in Nigeria. That is what we have been advocating; that the private sector should show concern about public health issues. Government cannot do it alone, and this support is needed to achieve a healthy society" Prof. Adewale remarked.
The Global Fund's Strategy 2017-2022 outlines results targets for the partnership.
Programs supported by the Global Fund will save 14 million lives in the three-year period beginning in 2017, bringing the total lives saved by the Global Fund partnership to 36 million by the end of 2019.

It is very dangerous to love one man alone because men are generally heart breakers. It is better to love two, if one disappoints you, you can easily go to the other one. It is the fault of men, they cannot be relied upon. For me, I don’t love.
For those that are in love, and keeping one man, they should know love is a dangerous game. When asked if it is possible for a woman to love two men at the same time, she answered in the affirmative. “Yes, it is quite possible. My heart has been broken so many times. Love is wicked and it is a very dangerous game. Good luck to those in love. For me, I don’t love.”

The singer however apologized over the video in which she was seen eating a banana in front of a chalkboard with the number #69 scrawled across it, admitting that she did not expect the backlash against it.

She wrote on Facebook;
I apologise to all the people who saw the clip and were upset by it and took it in an inappropriate way.
I didn’t imagine all this would happen and that I would be subjected to such a strong attack from everyone, as a young singer… who has dream from a young age of being a singer.”
However it’s still not known if she will be charged to court.

Malia Obama spotted smoking cigarette and kissing a mystery guy
Former US President Barack Obama’s eldest daughter, Malia Obama who was spotted at her first Harvard-Yale football game last weekend, was captured smoking and also kissing a mystery guy.
However from TMZ’s report, it seems she might be having issues with her mum as she famously disapproved her dad’s smoking.

Malia Obama’s gonna remember her first Harvard-Yale football game — and so is the guy she made out with during the tailgate party!
Barack and Michelle’s oldest was pregaming with friends Saturday outside the Yale Bowl in New Haven, CT, and wound up kissing a mystery guy who seemed to be pulling for Harvard, too … based on his crimson tee.
The makeout sesh is no big deal — just a freshman doing what freshmen do — but the fact Malia lit up a cigarette might not sit well with mom and pop. Remember, Michelle famously disapproved of Barack smoking.
We’ll say this though … Malia made out a lot better than her team. Harvard got crushed 24-3’ TMZ reports.
