RESTORATION TODAY
TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 2020.
TOPIC: *THE HIRELING*
"I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep." John 10:11-12.
*MESSAGE*
Everything in our society today basically goes with a price tag appended to them based on their values. People value and respect it when they are paid to perform one task or the other. They don't necessarily have to be passionate about what they have been asked or assigned to do, they will get serious and committed just to get paid as the case may be, but they can't put in a selfless sacrifice let alone risk their lives in the line of duty because they are hired to serve.
The same could be said of the kind of people Jesus described in our text today as hirelings---half-hearted servants of God. They are not committed to the point of risking their life's and that of their families. They do whatever they do in the church with an expectation to get paid, be recognized or rewarded for their services in the vineyard of God.
Is that you? Whether you are a chorister, member, deacon, deaconess, elder, evangelist, pastor or any other person in the congregation, we all have a role to play as a good shepard and not as hirelings. In our different capacities, let us prevent our flocks from the wild beasts out there (fake prophets, strange doctrine, etc). May God help us.
*ACTION POINT*
? Develop passion towards the responsibility you have been given in the house of God; do it as unto the Lord.
*SCRIPTURES*
Ezekiel 34:2-4; John 21:15-17; Psalm 80:1; John 10:11-13; Jeremiah 3:15.
*PRAYER POINTS*
1. Please Lord take away from me the spirit of a hireling in the name of Jesus;
2. Father, give me a burning desire and passion to serve you according to thy perfect will;
3. Open my eyes Lord to know the area of my responsibility in your Kingdom in the name of Jesus.
*THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR*
Genesis 35; Psalm 7-8; Matthew 19.16-20.16.
