EPL: Premier League to resume May after coronavirus break

The Premier League are working on a plan to resume fixtures which will be played behind closed doors, from the first weekend in May, according to the Daily Mail.



Officials are looking at Sunday, July 12 as the scheduled finish date.

The proposals will be discussed extensively on a conference call by the 20 clubs on Friday.



However, it would need to be endorsed by the Government, public health bodies and the PFA.
The Premier League is trying to fight financial losses and potential legal threats caused by the coronavirus shutdown.

There are obligations with broadcasters, who have a watertight £3billion-a-year deal which expires on July 31, with next season’s deal kicking in the following day.



Fixtures are currently suspended until April 30 at the earliest.

The possibilities of Wilfred Ndidi quitting Leicester City for a big money move to either real Madrid or Barcelona  in the nearest future  may be a ruse after all  according to a reliable confidant  of the ‘industrious Nigerian’ midfielder.

Ndidi who has established himself as a very important player in the Coach Brendan Rodgers squad since joining the team in 2016 has been linked with a possible move to Barcelona in recent times but a confidant of the star told NationSport on anonymity that insisted that ‘Ndidi is going nowhere’.

The source, however, ruled out the possibility of Ndidi moving to Spain, saying with air of finality: “Nothing is happening and anybody can talk (about Ndidi leaving Leicester City);  just ignore them,” he stressed.

He however insisted that the former Nath Boys of Lagos star is committed to Leicester and ready to continue lifting the club where he has blossomed in the last three seasons.

The Super Eagles star was once seen as an underrated cog in the Leicester City machine, but his continued rising form has finally seen him appreciated by the masses.

 

The Nigerian teamed up with the former EPL champion from Belgium in 2016 with the near-impossible task of being Ngolo Kante’s successor.

But Ndidi has not only matched Kante’s influence on the Leicester team, but he may have even superseded it.

Even when he was out injured early this year, his vacuum was felt in the team which cost the team several loses as the holding midfielder does a lot of the dogged work in midfield, that can often go unnoticed. The Nigerian has made some clever decisions during gameplay that shape Leicester City’s formation.

According to Adrian Clarke on premierleague.com statistics, Ndidi has passed to full backs Ricardo Pereira (136) and Ben Chilwell (132) more than other players. This allows the players with pace to drive the ball up the pitch, with Ndidi therefore able to sit and maintain a deep position in front of the back four.

The 23-year-old also appears in the top six of all Premier League midfielders for interceptions, ball recoveries, tackles, tackles won, duels won and aerials won.

He may not be the most glamorous, but this however confirmed why European giants such as Barcelona are being linked with the midfielder.

This season, Ndidi has been side-lined by injury but has made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals for Leicester, while his contract with the Foxes runs out at the end of the 2023-2024 seasons.

Coronavirus: De Bruyne calls for Premier League to be canceled

Manchester City playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne, has called for the Premier League season to be canceled.



DAILY POST recalls that the Premier League had been suspended due to the spread of Coronavirus across the world.

Manchester City are 25 points behind league leaders, Liverpool on the Premier League table.



But, De Bruyne believes players’ safety should come first, as COVID-19 continues to affect sporting events.
“I have no idea if we will still play,” the Belgium international said as quoted by Football London.
“In England, they want to wait as long as possible with a decision.



“But, as a footballer, that is not evident. You’re idle for six weeks, and normally you need preparation of three to four weeks.

“If we restart immediately, everyone will be injured after a few games. That cannot be the intention.
“There’s a lot of money involved, and I think waiting so long to make a decision can cause problems for next season.



“It’s not that we have a very long summer break and can just postpone everything.”

Ndidi addresses comparison between himself, Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante

Leicester City star, Wilfred Ndidi, has addressed comparisons between him and Chelsea midfielder, N’Golo Kante.



Ndidi believes Kante, who played a key role in Leicester City’s Premier League title win in 2016, is a machine.
Fans have often compared Ndidi to Kante because both players play defensive midfield roles for their respective clubs.



But the Nigerian international has now addressed that talk on an Instagram Live, according to Leicester Mercury.

“I have always seen myself as Ndidi, and I want to be seen as Ndidi,” the 23-year-old said.

“Kante is a great player, and if you see the way he plays, you’ll know he’s a machine.



“The advice I got right from time while I was playing that position is just be yourself.

“Every player has his own quality, and it’s not everybody that can be like Ronaldo or Messi, everybody has his own way.

“I just want to be myself, play my game, and fight for three points.”

Coronavirus: Berbatov disagrees with Rio Ferdinand over cancellation of Premier League season

Former Manchester United striker, Dimitar Berbatov has disagreed with former teammate Rio Ferdinand after the ex-England defender called for the cancellation of the 2019/2020 Premier League season due to the Coronavirus pandemic.



DAILY POST recalls that Ferdinand had claimed last week that Liverpool should miss out on winning the Premier League, as the world continues to battle with the COVID-19 outbreak.
Ferdinand, said: “I think the Premier League should be voided.



“I know there are going to be many Liverpool fans who will say; ‘oh, Rio, just because you used to play for Man United, but this is about life and death situations, about society in the broader grand scheme of things.
“I just do not see a way that can be done where health is not compromised.”

Reacting to the development, Berbatov believes Liverpool fully deserves to win the Premier League title after a superb start to the campaign, adding that it would be ‘unfair’ if the season is voided.

Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger, has reacted to the viral video where two French doctors, Jean-Paul Mira and Camille Locht opined that the new COVID-19 drug be tested in Africa.



Mira and Locht, who spoke in a live TV interview, which now has the highest trend on Twitter with the hashtag ‘Africans are not lab rats’ insisted that Africa is the best place to conduct such a test as they recalled how an experimental treatment for AIDS was carried out in Africa.

Rudiger, who found the comments to be repulsive, took to his official Twitter account on Saturday to share the video, which has gone viral, saying: “It took me some time to find some words for these guys.



“Angry face Two French doctors suggest on TV to carry on an experiment for the COVID-19 vaccine in Africa.

Manchester City and England defender, Kyle Walker, has been exposed for hosting a sex party with two escorts while on Coronavirus lockdown.
 
The footballer, 29, and a friend reportedly paid £2,200 to the two escort, Louise McNamara, 21, and a 24-year-old Brazilian call girl to visit his Cheshire home on  Tuesday.
 

 
After the escorts left on Wednesday, Walker took to social media to tell his fans to stay at home and observe the measures put in place to halt the spread of Coronavirus in the UK. 
 
In his message to his fans, he said: '“Stay indoors, keep washing your hands, keep following the protocols and just protect the NHS.
 
“It’s been tough, but first and foremost, we have to think about other people’s health and protecting the elderly and family members that can spread it.”
 
One of the women, Louise, has now exposed the footballer following their sex party together,.
 
She told The Sun: “I work with an agency in Manchester. I got a message from my boss saying a high-profile client was looking for somebody classy.
 

 
“I got a cab from Manchester to the address and a driver picked me up outside and took me to the gates of his apartment.
 
“Then his friend came out and met me. There was another girl in the car too.”
 
Walker tried to keep his identity secret but after the girls went for a cigarette on the balcony, the other told Louise “Kai” was a “soccer player”.
 
Louise said: “I didn’t know who he was at the time. But I took a few photos of him.”
 

 
The single mother-of-one and criminology student added: “Kyle really should know better.
 
“On the one hand he’s inviting strangers round to his house for sex, and the next day he’s lecturing everyone on the need to stay safe. He’s a hypocrite and putting people at risk.”
 
According to her, she left Kylie's home with the other woman at around 2am on Wednesday.
 
Kyle Walker who has 48 caps for England, has apologised for the incident. 
 
He said: 'I want to take this opportunity to issue a public apology for the choices I made last week. I understand that my position as a professional footballer brings the responsibility of being a role model.
 
'As such, I want to apologise to my family, friends, football club, supporters and the public for letting them down.' 
 
Manchester City have confirmed that the will be opening disciplinary proceedings into the defender's behaviour 'in the coming days'.
 

 
A spokesman for the club said: 'Manchester City FC are aware of a story in a tabloid newspaper regarding the private life of Kyle Walker in relation to a breach of the UK lockdown and social distancing rules.

Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola's mother has died after contracting Coronavirus. 
 
His mother, Dolors Sala Carrio, 82,  was diagnosed with the disease after showing symptoms in Barcelona, with the Premier League club announcing her tragic death on Monday afternoon.

The club tweeted: “The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting Corona Virus.
 
She was 82-years-old. Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends.”
 

 
Last month, the Spaniard donated €1m to Barcelona’s Angel Soler Daniel Foundation and Medical College towards the purchase of equipment to fight Coronavirus in Spain.

Footballer Thomas Muller signs new contract with Bayern Munich until 2023







Germany and Bayern Munich football star, Thomas Müller has agreed to a contract extension with Bayern Münich, the German club have announced.
 
Müller has spent his entire career at Bayern, making 521 appearances with 195 goals and 186 assists to his name but his contract was due to run out in 2021.
 
He has now signed a new deal, which will keep him at the club until 2023 ending talks of possible transfers to other clubs.

"Both sides signed with a really good feeling. I'm sure that once we're playing again, we'll continue to be very successful. That spurs me on. For me, the number one priority was to extend at FC Bayern - and the club felt the same way," Müller said in a statement after signing his new contract.

"I've been with FC Bayern for a good two-thirds of my life now, so you can't say that the club and I are just along for the ride - we fight for each other. This club is not just any old employer for me. It's my passion. I'm happy that I'll be here for two extra years, and I’ll give everything on and off the pitch," he added.
 
Bayern München CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said:

COVID-19: Sex party ends Kyle Walker’s career in England


England coach, Gareth Southgate, has reportedly ended Manchester City star, Kyle Walker’s international career with The Three Lions after the defender broke COVID-19 (Coronavirus) lockdown rules by ‘hosting sex party’ in his apartment last week.


Walker and a friend had invited two women to his apartment in Cheshire last Tuesday evening, but earlier that day, the right-back had urged his 1.5 million followers on Twitter to observe the COVID-19 lockdown rules.

“Please, everyone stay home, look after one another through this difficult time and check in on loved ones but don’t visit them,” he tweeted.

He has since apologized for his actions over the weekend.

“I want to take this opportunity to issue a public apology for the choices I made last week,” Walker said in a statement.

“I understand that my position as a professional footballer brings the responsibility of being a role model.

“As such, I want to apologise to my family, friends, football club, supporters, and the public for letting them down.

According to Daily Star, Southgate has vowed never to pick Walker again, effectively ending the player’s international career at the age of 29.

Coronavirus: Solskjaer reveals what Man Utd will do in transfer market

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said the club could “exploit” the transfer market in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.



The Red Devils are in a good position financially and last week confirmed they won’t be furloughing any of their staff due to the pandemic.

United have been linked with possible summer moves for the likes of Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.



Both players were expected to command huge fees, but Solskjaer has hinted they may now be able to sign players for smaller sums, because of the financial strain COVID-19 could have on other clubs.

Ronaldinho finally released from Paraguay prison

Brazil legend, Ronaldinho, has been released from a Paraguayan prison and placed under house arrest, according to SportingLife.



The 40-year-old was put in jail, for allegedly trying to enter the South American country with a fake passport.

The Reds only needed just two wins from their final nine games to clinch the English top-flight league title.



But Mane, who had scored 14 Premier League goals so far this season said he would understand if Liverpool does not win the title, adding that it is part of life and hopefully, they will win it next year.

“I want to win the games, and I want to get the Premier League trophy. It is what I would love.

EPL: Premier League to announce season ‘is over’

Udinese Director, Pierpaolo Marino has claimed that the Premier League will soon release a statement announcing that the season “is over.”



Marino’s Udinese is also controlled by Watford owners, the Pozzo family.

He said the EPL will cancel the rest of the season’s games amid the coronavirus pandemic.



Marino told Sportitalia, “The Belgian Federation has already sanctioned the end of their league, despite the threats of sanctions from UEFA.

“In England, the Premier League is about to release a similar statement, because the situation there is becoming very, very serious. I frankly just hope we can enjoy football again after the coronavirus.

“It doesn’t matter how long it takes, we need to get out of this danger zone. I am worried about the next seasons, not the old one.”

Dilemma as Pedro receives £2.7million-a-year offer

Chelsea forward, Pedro Rodriguez, has reportedly been offered a one-year contract by Italian Serie A side, AS Roma, Mirror UK reports.



The deal will see Pedro, whose current contract at Chelsea will expire this summer, earn around £2.7million-a-year.

The Spaniard has spent five years at Chelsea after he joined the West London club from Barcelona in 2015.



The 32-year-old has won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and Europa League during his time with the Blues.
He has failed to establish himself as a regular starter under Chelsea manager Frank Lampard’s squad.

Pedro had featured just nine times in the Premier League so far this season, scoring once and providing one assist before the English top-flight league was suspended indefinitely due to the spread of coronavirus across the globe.



It, however, remains to be seen if Pedro will be tempted by Roma’s bid to switch to Italy.

Meanwhile, Pedro recently admitted that he is going to end his contract with Chelsea amid the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) across the world.
“I am terminating my contract, but right now, it is not the most important thing, nor have I stopped to think about it,” Pedro said.
