LaLiga: Zidane admits he might leave Real Madrid, speaks on joining Ronaldo at Juventus

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has refused to guarantee he will be at the club next season.

Zidane however denied he has been contacted by Juventus and a possible reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo was on the cards.
The 47-year-old spent five years with Juve as a player, before moving to Real in 2001.

He has now been linked with the Serie A champions, as they consider replacing Maurizio Sarri.
“No, no … no one has contacted me and I don’t know anything,” Zidane said ahead of Real Madrid’s match at Real Betis in La Liga on Sunday.
“You know what it’s like, people say a lot of things.”

However, the Frenchman was less confident when asked if he’ll be in charge at the Bernabeu next season.
“It’s not like that. Knowing what comes next doesn’t exist.

“I feel supported by the club, yes, that’s clear. The people that work here, we’re all pulling in the same direction. But after all that, I know how this works. I’m coach of Real Madrid today but tomorrow that could change,” Zidane added.

EPL: Ozil reacts to Arsenal’s 1-0 win against West Ham United

Arsenal playmaker, Mesut Ozil has said that the Gunners were not very pretty against West Ham United following their 1-0 Premier League victory on Saturday.

Alexandre Lacazette scored the only goal of the match for Mikel Arteta’s side following an assist from Mesut Ozil.
In a tweet on his official twitter page after the match, the ex-Germany international said the victory against the visitors was a must win.

He wrote: “3 PL victories on the bounce.

“Wasn’t very pretty today, but a must win game, so we’ll take that! Smiling face with sunglasses #YaGunnersYa #M1Ö.”

Lionel Messi overtakes Cristiano Ronaldo as the all-time record goalscorer in Europe's top five leagues with goal number 438







Football icon, Lionel Messi, broke another record during the weekend by scoring the match-winner for Barcelona against Real Sociedad , his 438th LaLiga goal in his 474th league appearance for Barcelona, making him the all time highest goalscorer in Europe's top five leagues.


Messi scored from the penalty spot, and his 438th LaLiga goal puts him one goal ahead of Ronaldo's 437 goals for Manchester United, Real Madrid and now Juventus.


The goal was Messi's 24th of the season in all competitions. Congrats to him!

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has said his side paid for their lack of sharpness in the final third, after they lost 2-0 to Manchester United on Sunday.

Although, City dominated possession, they ultimately fell to their seventh defeat of the season.
Anthony Martial opened scoring in the first half, finishing off Bruno Fernandes’ clever chip.

As Guardiola’s men pressed for a late equalizer, Scott McTominay pounced on Ederson’s poor throw to seal the win.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Guardiola said: “It was a good game, we played good.
“We missed a little bit in the first half when we were arriving in the final third, we needed to be more aggressive.

“We conceded a goal which we should have avoided and after five minutes they have one or two counter-attacks.
“The second half was good and it was a good performance.”

Real Madrid sustained a shock defeat at Real Betis to hand the initiative to Barcelona in the La Liga title race.[/b]

Barca had beaten Real Sociedad 1-0 on Saturday to go two points clear and Zinedine Zidane's side were unable to respond with a victory of their own.

They fell behind to Sidnei's stunning strike into the top corner, but levelled via Karim Benzema's penalty.

Ex-Barcelona forward Cristian Tello was Betis' match winner, stroking in on 82 minutes.

The Betis substitute broke clear and coolly slide the ball past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as the hosts picked up only their eighth victory of the season to move up to 12th, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Rubi's team looked far from a side struggling at the wrong end of the table, causing Real Madrid all sorts of problems as Marc Bartra somehow headed over from six yards out with the whole goal to aim at.

Veteran winger Joaquin went round Courtois and looked to be slipping the ball into an empty net but was denied by Luka Modric's goal-saving interception on the line.

The Belgium international goalkeeper also made a stunning save to tip Nabil Fekir's thunderous, first-time strike over the crossbar.

After taking the lead through Sidnei's superb effort, the goalscorer went from hero to villain by bringing down Marcelo inside the area and allowing Benzema to equalise.

The winner came courtesy of Benzema's loose pass which was picked off by Andres Guardado, who popped the ball off for Tello and he made no mistake.

Real Madrid pushed for the equaliser but Ferland Mendy's curling shot was brilliant tipped onto the crossbar by Joel Robles' flying save and Benzema curled narrowly wide in the 95th minute.

Cristiano Ronaldo was photographed greeted imaginary supporters as Juventus players arrived to take on biggest rivals Inter Milan in front of empty stands in a must win game on Sunday night in Turin.
                          
    
Italy is the European country hardest hit by the coronavirus as there are now more than 7,300 cases in the country and 366 deaths.
 
 

 
At the end, Juventus won the match 2-0 but nobody was at the Allianz Stadium in Turin to witness it, and the players jokingly applauded non-existed fans.

Paris Saint Germain striker Kylian Mbappe was absent on the training ground against their Champions League clash with Borrussia Dortmund.

His absence will be a significant blow to French side chances of overturning their 2-1 defeat against the German side.

The champions League clash between PSG and Dortmund is scheduled to be played behind close doors because of the outbreak of Coronavirus.

According to report, Mbappe’s test result will be available tomorrow, but early signs are that he has not contracted the virus.

Tottenham's 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday night has seen Jose Mourinho fail to win his past six matches in all competitions - his longest ever run without victory.

Across Spurs' last six games, Mourinho has seen his side beaten four times and held to two draws as they struggle in the wake of injuries to key attackers Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

That poor form has ended the club's hopes of any silverware this seaso, with Tottenham knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League in the space of a week.

Spurs also now face a real fight to qualify for the Champions League next season with the club currently eighth in the Premier League - seven points shy of fourth-place Chelsea.

Mourinho has struggled since he replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, with the club's 3-0 loss on Tuesday condemning him to his joint-heaviest Champions League defeat and three consecutive losses in the competition for the first time in his career.

While Spurs have failed to fire freely without Kane and Son up front in recent weeks, the side's biggest issue since Mourinho's arrival has been in defence, with the club conceding the second most goals of any Premier League side behind Aston Villa in all competitions since 'The Special One' took charge.

Tottenham have in fact failed to keep a clean sheet in their past eight games in all competitions with Leipzig highlighting their defensive struggles in Germany.

Marcel Sabitzer opened the scoring after just 10 minutes on Tuesday before adding a second in the 21st minute as Spurs dug themselves a deeper hole after losing the first leg at home 1-0.

Leipzig substitute Emil Forsberg would then wrap up the contest in the 87th minute as he found the back of the net just seconds after being brought on.

Premier League suffers first postponement as Arsenal players quarantined

Arsenal’s game at Manchester City on Wednesday was postponed after players from the London club were put into quarantine, making it the first Premier League football fixture to be called off because of coronavirus.

Arsenal said players and four staff had been isolated at their homes after coming into contact with the owner of Greek club Olympiakos, Vangelis Marinakis, who has since tested positive for COVID-19.

“We are strictly following the government guidelines which recommend that anyone coming into close contact with someone with the virus should self-isolate at home for 14 days from the last time they had contact,” an Arsenal statement said.

“As a result, the players are unavailable for tonight’s (Wednesday’s) match against Manchester City and the Premier League has decided the game should be postponed.”

The first postponement in the Premier League, which has a huge worldwide following, follows widespread disruption to football and other sports across the globe.

Arsenal was knocked out of the Europa League by Olympiakos on February 27. Marinakis, owner of the Greek club and English side Nottingham Forest, announced on Tuesday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

But Arsenal said the players and staff, who met Marinakis after the game at the Emirates Stadium, will return to work on Friday ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brighton.

“The medical advice we have received puts the risk of them developing COVID-19 at extremely low,” it added.

The Premier League called the move a “precautionary measure” and said there were no plans to postpone any other games.

Arsenal’s opponents on Saturday struggling Brighton tweeted that their game was still on.

“Albion’s match against Arsenal this Saturday remains scheduled to go ahead as planned, in line with government advice, and following consultation with the Premier League and medical advisors. #BHAFC,” they tweeted.

Football’s Serie A and all other sports have been put on hold in Italy, while the top two divisions in Spain and France will be played in empty stadiums for at least the next two weeks.

UEFA’s Champions League and Europa League have also been both forced to arrange matches behind closed doors as the epidemic spreads.

Olympiakos host Wolverhampton Wanderers in Athens this week in the Europa League, in one of the last-16 games that will be played in front of an empty stadium.

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo has joined a number of managers, including Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, in voicing disquiet at being asked to play without fans.

“If we have to go we will. But we don’t agree — we’re not happy to go,” he told Sky Sports.

“Behind closed doors doesn’t make sense,” he added. “We’re pretending to live a normal life when things aren’t normal.”

Wednesday’s postponement could also frustrate Premier League leaders Liverpool, as a defeat for Manchester City would have taken Liverpool to the brink of their first top-flight title in 30 years.

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho, came under fire from former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, after his side were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Spurs who lost the first leg of the last-16 clash 1-0, were hammered 3-0 in Germany.
Mourinho has now overseen a six-game winless run in all competitions.

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand explained how the Portugese coach has damaged the confidence of his players.
“You’ve got to build them up and give them confidence. Talking about going to a gun fight without bullets – what does that do to the confidence of the likes of Dele, Lucas Moura?

“That hasn’t been forthcoming from Jose. You see a hint of that in the performance tonight,” Ferdinand said.

Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid: Simeone names ‘killer squad’ for Champions League clash

Atletico Madrid has named a powerful squad to face Liverpool in tonight’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 second-leg tie at Anfield.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, has named a 24-man squad to tackle Jurgen Klopp’s side in a post on the club’s official website on Tuesday.[/size]

Simeone’s men defeated the Premier League leaders 1-0 in the first leg in Spain last month.

The La Liga giants head to the game after playing a 2-2 draw against Sevilla last weekend.

EPL: Wan-Bissaka, Fred tested for drugs after Man Utd vs Man City

Manchester United’s duo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Fred were selected for drug testing, after their 2-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, The Athletic reports.

Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay scored for the Red Devils, as they completed a double over their rivals at Old Trafford.[/size]

After the game, Wan-Bissaka and Fred were randomly picked for drug testing, as per regular practice in England’s topflight.


The two players could not join the rest of the squad in the dressing room, until they each provided a sample.

However, Wan-Bissaka was not able to provide a sample until 7.30pm because of dehydration.

Twitter users roast Liverpool squad after Liverpool's 3-2 loss to Atletico Madrid as defending champions exit UEFA Champions League






Atletico Madrid beat Liverpool  3-2 at Anfield to reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions league competition on Wednesday night to end Liverpool's dream of defending the title they won last year.
 
Atletico headed into the second leg of this last-16 tie with a 1-0 advantage from Madrid in the first leg, but Wijnaldum's first-half header sent the sides in level 1-1 on aggregate with 45 minutes left to play.
 
            
 
Atletico keeper Jan Oblak was in superb form with save after save to deny Liverpool and the game entered extra time. Brazilian striker Firmino scored four minutes into extra time to put the Reds ahead.
 
Marcos Llorente came in as substitute to score for Atletico following an error from goalkeeper Adrian. Llorente then struck on the stroke of half-time in extra-time to ensure Liverpool get dumped out of the competition.
 
Twitter users were quick to praise Atletico while Liverpool received heavy criticism for the manner of their loss.

 Daniele Rugani: Inter Milan Suspends All Competitive Activities 


It is now official that Inter, as well as Juventus, will go into isolation and suspend training after Daniele Rugani tested positive for the Coronavirus.

The Nerazzurri released a statement confirming they have suspended training and any football activity until further notice, as they will begin the necessary procedures.

Because Juve played Inter on Sunday, even though Rugani did not play, it would make the Inter players and staff people who interacted with him.

The Bianconeri defender remained on the bench for the whole match in Turin, which was played behind closed doors.

Inter had been due to play Getafe in the Europa League tomorrow, but the game was called off by UEFA after the Spaniards refused to travel to Milan.

[b]Jurgen Klopp: Atletico Don't Play Proper Football



Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says their Champions League last-16 defeat by Atletico Madrid "doesn't feel right" and criticised the La Liga side's style of play.[/b]

The European champions' hopes of defending their title were ended by a 3-2 loss at Anfield on Wednesday, with Atletico winning 4-2 on aggregate.

The Reds had reached the final in the previous two seasons under the German.

Klopp suggested Diego Simeone's Atletico do not play "proper football".

"I am completely happy with the performance. It's so difficult to play a side like this," Klopp told BT Sport, adding he was "searching for the right words".

"I don't understand with the quality they have the football they play. They could play proper football but they stand deep and have counter-attacks.

"We accept it, of course, but it doesn't feel right tonight. I realise I am a really bad loser, especially when the boys put such an effort in against world-class players on the other side who defend with two rows of four.

"We know in the past two years we had some lucky moments in the Champions League - you have to to reach two finals - but today everything was against us in the decisive moments."

Defeat was Liverpool's fourth loss in six matches in all competitions, but they remain 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Captain Jordan Henderson said Wednesday's result was "disappointing" but added the players would use it to end the season strongly.

"We put everything into that game so we are bitterly disappointed, especially with the goals we conceded," the 29-year-old England midfielder told BT Sport.

"All we can focus on is our performance level, and to have conceded those goals isn't like us. We're disappointed but we'll take it on the chin.

"For the rest of today and tomorrow it won't feel nice, but we have to use it to help us finish the season strong."

[b] Solskjaer: I Would Understand If The Season Is Cut Short Because Of Coronavirus 




Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he will "understand" if the season is cut short because of coronavirus.[/b]

The disease has had an impact on sporting events across the world with United's Europa League last-16 first leg at LASK among those affected.

The Austrian government has limited those who can attend Thursday's game to 500 people.

"It's up to the experts to decide," Solskjaer said.

"I would understand yes, under the circumstances [if the season was to be cut short].

"The main concern must be the health of the general public and the decision that will be made we'll back."

A number of European club competition fixtures will be played behind closed doors this week, while the Europa League fixtures between Sevilla and Roma, and Inter Milan and Getafe, have been postponed.

"Of course, these are difficult circumstances - not just for football, but in the whole society," Solskjaer added.

"For us, we just have to do what we're told and get on with the game if the authorities think that's what we should do. We are going to have to create our own atmosphere within the team, within the game.

"They are used to training with no spectators anyway and we do have some behind-closed-doors friendlies at times.

"I am in no doubt that my players are focused and ready to perform, even if there are no spectators there."

United released a statement on Wednesday saying that once they return to Old Trafford "all home matches are currently scheduled to go ahead as planned".

Solskjaer also added that none of his players had been tested for coronavirus and he was unaware of any plans to play the second leg against LASK behind closed doors in Manchester.
