Transfer: Chelsea midfielder set to join Premier League rivals
December 31
Aston Villa are keen on signing Danny Drinkwater on loan from Chelsea when his Burnley deal expires, according to Sky Sports.
Drinkwater has struggled to make an impact during two years at Stamford Bridge and was loaned out to Burnley.
However, he only made his debut against Manchester City in December, after getting injured outside a nightclub in September.
Drinkwater has not featured since and his loan deal is set to expire January 6.
Aston Villa have identified the midfielder as potential cover for John McGinn, who has been ruled out for several months with a fractured ankle.
Villa assistant manager, John Terry, is banking on his good relationship with former teammate and current Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, to persuade the Blues to lend them Drinkwater until the end of the season.

EPL: Referee Craig Pawson dropped after failing to send Jorginho off against Arsenal
December 31, 2019
Craig Pawson will not take charge of any Premier League game in Matchweek 21.
According to the schedule of match officials published on Monday, Pawson will be at the Emirates Stadium as a fourth official.
Pawson will be returning to Arsenal’s home ground for the second time in three days, after failing to send Jorginho off as the Gunners lost 2-1 to Chelsea.
Jorginho who had already been booked, clearly pulled back Matteo Guendouzi as the midfielder broke away, but Alexandre Lacazette instead received a yellow card.
Arsenal will play Manchester United on New Year Day, hoping to climb out of the bottom half of the table.
New boss, Mikel Arteta, is also looking for his first win.

EPL: Guardiola names best Premier League team of decade, gives reason
January 1, 2020
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has named his side as the best Premier League team of the last decade.
According to Guardiola, in terms of points, goals, titles and everything, Man City are the best club in the English top-flight league.
“I think this club, in the last decade, was the best team,” Guardiola was quoted by Goal as saying on Tuesday ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Everton on Wednesday evening.
“In terms of points, in terms of goals, titles and everything. So I congratulate Manchester City for that.
“So when we analyse every single day here, what happens day by day, we analyse that, but we have a perspective of what’s happened in 10 seasons.
“Especially when the people from Abu Dhabi took over the club and bought good players, interesting managers and bigger staff. I think we did it incredibly well.
“Because fighting with huge elephants here in England, the big clubs with the biggest history, with us in the last decade, we were a part of them, that is amazing.
“Hopefully, in the next decade this club can be here for more time.”
Guardiola’s side won four Premier League titles in the last ten years.

EPL: Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Brighton clash
January 1, 2020
Chelsea will be without defenders, Marcos Alonso and Reece James, when they take on Brighton in today’s Premier League fixture at the Falmer Stadium due to injuries.
Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, confirmed this during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
Lampard’s men head to the game following a 2-1 victory over Arsenal in their last Premier League encounter.
Lampard was quoted by Football London as saying that: “Hopefully a week or ten days James will be back.
“He’s had a bit of a niggle around his ankle injury which he had surgery on in pre-season so that was a bit of a worry. The doctors are saying it will be a week or so.”
Lampard added: “Alonso is similar, it is a back – top of the glute – kind of muscle injury. They are both in a similar boat, not terrible injuries but missing at a pretty crucial time.”
The kick-off time for the match is 1:30pm

EPL: Arteta singles out player he wants to build Arsenal team around
January 1, 2020
Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta, has admitted he is looking to build his side around Mesut Ozil.
Arteta said he was not surprised by Ozil’s energetic display against Chelsea, having been impressed by the German’s “willing” performances in training.
The Spaniard has now said he wants to structure his team, to bring out the best from Ozil.
“That’s what I’m hoping, that he can sustain that level every three or four days,” Arteta told reporters ahead of a New Year’s Day meeting with Manchester United.
“He’s putting in everything he has to try to do that.
“His numbers, physically, have improved so much, and he’s willing. That’s what I can tell you from every day what I see in training.
“I’m not surprised. I know the ability, I know the player we have there. The structure has to help him for him to take everything that he has inside.
“On his own, he cannot do it. He needs the collective structure, organisation and his team-mates. There are only one or two players in the world who can do something on their own.
“He needs help and he needs the team to play in a certain way to facilitate his strengths more and more every time in the game. That’s what we are trying to do.”

EPL: Wenger speaks on Liverpool going unbeaten, winning title this season
Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has disclosed that Liverpool are on course to go unbeaten and win the Premier League title this season.
Liverpool wrapped up their 17th win of the campaign with a 4-0 win over second-placed Leicester City on Boxing Day.
The Reds have only dropped points against Manchester United so far this season.
But Wenger now believes that Jurgen Klopp’s men are on the right track to repeat Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ feat of 2003/2004 this term.
Asked whether Liverpool can pull off an ‘Invincibles’ season, Wenger told beIN SPORTS: “They were close last year and they are still on course to do it.
“But I think what Liverpool is expecting at the moment is just to win the Premier League and that is the first target for such a football city.
“To stay for 30 years without winning the Premier League… nobody would have predicted that.
“That is their main target and I think they are on a good run and on a good course to achieving that this season because their main opponent is quite far away already.”
Liverpool will face Sheffield United on Thursday night in their next Premier League fixture at Anfield.

Diego Alonso beats Patrick Vieira to become new coach of David Beckham's new franchise club, Inter Miami
Two months before David Beckham's new franchise football club Inter Miami makes it debut in America's Major League Soccer (MLS), the club has appointed Diego Alonso as it's new coach, after he beat off stiff competition from Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira and River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo to clinch the job.
Beckham who owns major stakes in the club and is projected as the face of the club, was impressed by Diego's CV and intelligence and chose to offer him the role.
"In Diego we found a manager that fits our culture and has a strong desire to build a winning club for our fans," said Inter Miami CF Sporting Director Paul McDonough.
"He brings a lot of experience and championship-winning mentality as we begin our drive to be among the best clubs in the Americas. We have big aspirations for our club and believe Diego has the right drive, passion and leadership to accomplish our goals."
Starting from March, Inter Miami will play home games at the 18,000-capacity Fort Lauderdale Stadium before moving to its permanent home, the 25,000-capacity Miami Freedom Park, in 2022.

Transfer: Boateng set to join Arsenal for £12.75m
January 3, 2020
Bayern Munich defender, Jerome Boateng is set to join Arsenal in this January’s transfer window.
According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have opened talks with the Bundesliga champions in a bid to sign the Germany international this month.
The newspaper reports that Bayern are demanding £12.75million fee for the centre-back.
Boateng has made just 15 appearances for Bayern this season.
The 31-year-old’s position at the club is currently under threat from Benjamin Pavard and David Alaba.
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta recently admitted after his side’s Premier League 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Wednesday that the Gunners are keen to bolster their defensive options this January following defender, Calum Chambers’ long-term injury.
Arteta said: “My obligation is to give my opinion on the things we can improve.
“Obviously we have a bad injury with Calum a few days ago that will change our plans at the back.
“The reality is we will not be able to do much. I’m more concerned about getting players back from injury and try to improve the players I have here, get everybody on board and understanding what we’re trying to do.
“And if something extra comes up and we think it is the right opportunity to improve what we have, then let’s do it.”
Arsenal are currently in the 10th position on the Premier League table with 21 points from 27 games.
