THURSDAY, 29TH AUGUST

YOU’RE A ROLE MODEL

Brethren, together follow my example and observe those who live after the pattern we have set for you (Philippians 3:17 AMPC).

Daniel 12:3 says, “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament….” The word translated “Shine” here in the Hebrew is “zâhar” and it means, among other things, to inspire. So, you’re called to inspire others; to give leadership. You’re a role model.

That’s what Jesus meant when He said, “Ye are the light of the world...” (Matthew 5:14), and as earlier inferred, light gives leadership. This lets you know your calling as a Christian. But the question is, how are you inspiring others?

It’s something spiritual. It’s not about how many want to dress like you or wear your kind of hairdo. If that’s all that’s inspiring about you, it’s not good enough, because those are fleshly things. Let people be motivated by the move of the Holy Spirit in your life. Let those around you be inspired by the love of God and the wisdom of God that flow out of you.

For example, it was declared concerning Daniel that “…an excellent spirit was in him…” (Daniel 6:3). He had excellent wisdom. It should be the same about you. Let the light of God and His wisdom be seen in you, so much so that when you speak, great drops of wisdom effuse from you to bless people.

The Apostle Paul made the profound and audacious statement we read in our opening verse. Can you say the same thing to those around you? Notice he didn’t say, “Pattern your life after God,” even though that’s implied; rather, he said, “Follow my example.”

Have the same consciousness, because you’re the God-man, the Christ-man in your world today. You’re a light in a dark world; so, shine ever so brightly. Inspire your world. You’ve been empowered for it. Train and inspire others in the way of the Lord; be an example and a mentor to others. Let men see your good works and glorify the Lord.

CONFESSION

I’m the light of the world, sent forth to illuminate my world. This is my calling in life, and I know it. I’m a role model; everywhere I go, I shine like the brightness of the heavens, inspiring men and women to righteousness. Glory to God!

Blessed Lord, I thank You for all that You’ve prepared for me in the coming Month. My spiritual antenna is raised to hear and receive Your instructions, guidance, and wisdom that will propel me in the path of greatness that You’ve ordained for me. Thank You for the anointing of the Holy Spirit that is at work in me, guiding me in the path of truth.

I am established in righteousness, steadfast and unmovable in the Lord, filled with the knowledge of God, in all wisdom and discernment. I know all things by the Holy Spirit that is at work in me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THEME: REPACKAGED SEXUAL IMMORALITY.

MEMORISE:

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: Colossians 3:5

27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

MESSAGE

Today’s Bible reading reveals a unique characteristic of the New Covenant taught by the Lord Jesus Christ. Under the old covenant of the Mosaic Law, a person could not be accused of sexual immorality, such as fornication or adultery, unless he or she was caught in the act by at least two or three weaknesses. This was the strong basis on which the scribes and Pharisees called for the execution of the woman caught in the sin adultery in John 8:2-11. John 8:4-5 says:

“They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?”

Those who follow the Lord’s teaching with an open heart will understand His answer to this question posed by the scribes and Pharisees. Indeed, Jesus came not to condemn but to redeem those under the yoke of sin. Nevertheless, His standard says that one can be guilty of sexual immorality even without sleeping with someone other than his or her spouse. In fact, according to Jesus, one need not be caught in the act of immorality before being declared guilty of it. By the lord’s standard, what is referred to in common parlance as “mere looking” is enough to be adjudged to have committed sexual immorality! This is food for thought for us in the Body of Christ today. When we promote the lust of the eyes by allowing immoral dressing in the church, we are actually exposing members of the Body of Christ to sexual immorality, even when they don’t engage in the act physically. A member of the choir dressed seductively to lead praise and worship will definitely leave the congregation worse off than before they came to church. This is not a question of legalism but following divine principles established by the Lord Himself.

The sin of sexual immorality and perversion is prevalent in the world we live in today because of the ease of access to the virtual world of the internet, where pornography is common place. Nowadays, people can have a voice or video chat with a member of the opposite sex a world away, committing all manner of immorality with them. In the world today, we even have the perversion called sex dolls of various makes and models meant to further promote a terrible kind of self-delusion. In a nutshell, Satan and his agents have devised various ways of luring people into sexual immorality without having any contact with a real human being. As children of God living in this perilous times, we must not become victims of these evil. As instructed by our Lord in Matthew 5:29, we must be ready to give it all it takes to mortify our bodies to sexual immorality. You need to “pluck out your eye”, represented by internet websites, TV programmes and social and social gatherings that make you susceptible to sexual immorality internally. May God honor your sincere efforts by giving you strength of character in your inner man in Jesus’ Name.

ACTION POINT:

Pluck out the eye of sexual immorality by cutting off links to things and people who make you vulnerable to it.

The limit of your faith determines the limit of your change. If you need your life to change more than it is, your faith must move higher.
SCRIPTURE: By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. Hebrews 11:29

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The limit of your faith determines the limit of your change.
A study through the Book of Hebrews Chapter Eleven confirms that faith is the supernatural force with which supernatural changes are effected. If a person desires a change in any realm of life, the force that is needed to effect that change is faith.

The woman with the issue of blood needed a change in her body, so she pressed through the crowd by faith saying that if she could touch the hem of Jesus� garment, she would be made whole. And by that force of faith, a change was inevitable (Mark 5:28-29).

Beloved, take note of the following key facts:
a. The limit of your faith determines the limit of your change. If you need your life to change more than it is, your faith must move higher.
b. The limit of your faith is the limit of your progress. If you want to see progress in the area of power with God, finance, or marriage, you need more revelation and understanding that will fuel your faith in that direction.
I see great and positive changes coming your way today as you shift in faith, in Jesus� Name.
Remember this: The limit of your faith determines the limit of your change.

Une étude du Livre des Hébreux, au chapitre onze, confirme que la foi est la force surnaturelle avec laquelle les changements surnaturels sont effectués. Quand une personne souhaite un changement dans n'importe quel domaine de sa vie, la force nécessaire pour effectuer ce changement c�est la foi. La femme à la perte du sang avait besoin d�un changement dans son corps, alors elle pressa la foule en affirmant que si elle pouvait toucher le bord du vêtement de Jésus, elle serait guérie. Et par cette force de la foi, son changement fut inévitable (Marc 5: 28-29).

Bien-aimés, prenez note des faits clés suivants:
a. La limite de votre foi détermine la limite de votre changement.
Si vous avez besoin que votre vie change au-delà de ce qu�elle est, votre foi doit s�élever plus haut.
b. La limite de votre foi est la limite de votre progrès.
Si vous voulez voir des progrès dans le domaine de la puissance avec Dieu, des finances ou du mariage, vous avez besoin de plus de révélations et de compréhension qui alimenteront votre foi dans cette direction.
Je vois de grands et positifs changements sur votre chemin aujourd�hui, alors que vous élevez votre foi, au Nom de Jésus.

PENSAMIENTO PARA EL DÍA: El límite de su fe determina el límite de su cambio.

Un estudio a través del Libro de los Hebreos Capítulo Once confirma que la fe es la fuerza sobrenatural con la cual se efectúan los cambios sobrenaturales. Si una persona desea un cambio en cualquier ámbito de la vida, la fuerza que se necesita para efectuar ese cambio es la fe.

La mujer con el flujo de sangre necesitaba un cambio en su cuerpo, por lo que presionó a la multitud por fe diciendo que si podía tocar el borde de la vestidura de Jesús, se curaría. Y por esa fuerza de fe, un cambio fue inevitable (Marcos 5:28-29).

Amado, tome nota de los siguientes hechos claves:
a. El límite de su fe determina el límite de su cambio. Si usted necesita que su vida cambie más de lo que es, su fe debe aumentar.

b. El límite de su fe es el límite de su progreso. Si usted desea ver el progreso en el área del poder con Dios, las finanzas o el matrimonio, necesita más revelación y comprensión que alimente su fe en esa dirección.

Veo grandes y positivos cambios que se le presentan a usted hoy a medida que su fe aumenta, en el Nombre de Jesús.

That Tiger Woods, 43, won a fifth Green Jacket at Augusta National on Sunday 14th April 2019, his first major win in 11 years and a first since having four operations on his back is no longer news! 

*The news was what he passed through to get the win!* Oh! 3,954 days! That is how long Tiger Woods waited to win his 15th major. In the time between the 2008 US Open and Sunday’s triumph at the Masters, Woods had made a public admission of infidelity/adultery and the breakdown of his marriage led to him to take a break from golf. *Yes! He stepped off golf!* The former world number one returned, but then had injuries and back surgeries (medical battles)! He slipped down the rankings, and millions thought his career was over. Did you get that? *He got to a point where millions thought his career was over!* His off-course problems also continued when he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in 2017.

Yes! He went into alcohol for succour, many men would! But now at the age of 43, he was won at Augusta for the first time since 2005. He not only won the coveted Golf cup and Green jacket, *_but the US president gave him one of the highest awards given to citizens! Wow! From SHAME to FAME: from STORY to GLORY!_* See what former US President Barrack Obama also screamed out in a tweet: “Congratulations, Tiger! To come back and win the Master after all the highs and lows in a testament to excellence, grit, and determination.”
And that tweet summaries today’s devotional: *Life Is Full Of High And Lows! Life Is Full Of Victories And Some Defeats! Life Is Full Of Pain And Much Gain! Yes! Life Is Full Of Great Testimonies And Excellent Triumphs!* I also know that life is full of COME DOWNS (falling), COMEBACKS (rising), WONDERFUL SETUPS AND MANY SETBACKS, but after any SETBACK or LOW, with determination and faith in God, you can BOUNCE BACK TO WIN AGAIN AND AGAIN! Ah, my Father just showed me that *477 people using today’s devotional are bouncing back mightily again!* Yes! Beautiful RAINBOWS show up after UGLY STORMS! Proverbs 24:16 (KJV) says: “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again…” Determine to rise and soar again! CREATIVITY: GOD'S NATURE

READ: Exodus 35:30-36:1

MEMORISE:

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10)

EXPOSITION

Creativity is the ability one has to make innovations, or think of new ideas. It takes place when something is made out of nothing, or when something extra-ordinary is made out of the ordinary. Creativity is the nature of God. 

In Genesis 1, "God made", is repeatedly mentioned (vv. 7,11,25,31), buttressing God's creative power. Interestingly, out of all that God created, He made man in his own image and likeness (v. 27; 5:1), so that we too can carry His creative power.

After God had finished the work of creation on the sixth day, He handed over further creative acts to the man He created. We are to use our creative powers to make further discoveries out of the treasures God has already deposited in, and around us. God has endowed us with the intrinsic ability to create and design beauty from nothing (Exo. 35:30-36:1). You have to work on your ability to think big and deep, because if you cannot think, you cannot create new ideas and things. Martin Luther once said, "The Christian shoemaker does his duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes, because God is interested in good craftsmanship."

God did not create you to be problem to other people. You are created to be a problem-solver, and all what you need is to discover the treasures that have been deposited in you. You are more than ordinary (cf. Psa. 139:14). You cannot be in Christ and remain a good-for-nothing person.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Help me, O Lord, to harness the creative power You have put in me; let new ideas begin to flow within me, for my life to have impact in my generation.
2. Lord, help our undergraduate students to discover their creative prowess, so that the society would not be bereft of innovations that would keep it smoothly running.
3. Pray against the attempt of some elements to use technological powers, including nuclear power, to cause disaster on people, anywhere.
