Jose Mourinho says Man City B team have more chance of winning the Premier League title than Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea.


Jose Mourinho believes that Manchester City’s second team would stand a better chance of winning the Premier League than Manchester United.

Mourinho, who left his role as United manager last season, also ruled out any hope of his former club Chelsea toppling City as champions.

Asked who had the resources to challenge for the title this season, Mourinho told Sky Sports: “Man City, Tottenham, Liverpool and Man City B team.

When I looked at the bench [against West Ham], the players not involved, I think the [City] B team could fight for the title.”

Mourinho, who was working as a pundit for United’s 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea at Old Trafford , added: “We would love United, Chelsea and Arsenal to also be at that level, it would be something incredible.

“But we are speaking about a team that won everything in England, we are speaking about the European champion and the European runner-up.

Then we are talking about United sixth, and playing Europa League and Arsenal fifth and Europa League too.”

Mourinho said that a realistic ambition for United this campaign would be to emulate his achievement with them of winning Europe’s second-tier club competition. “As a start you need to win the Europa League,” he said. “When you go to a competition like that, you have to win. If they finish in the top four [in the league], it is a good season.”

He was optimistic about his former player Frank Lampard’s hopes of succeeding as Chelsea manager, despite defeat in his first competitive game in charge.

“What Frank was as a player – does this give him a capital of trust, especially in a relationship with the fans?” Mourinho said. “Yes, it does. By having Frank in place now, they didn’t buy players, but they bought time. I think he will get the time that other managers may not have.”

On the other title contenders, Mourinho said: “I don’t see also Arsenal to [last] a title race, but I think Tottenham has to join it.”

Fellow Sky pundit Gary Neville agreed regarding his former club United, blaming frequent changes of philosophy for their problems. “I don’t see United winning the title,” he said. “As a United fan all, I want them to do is to create a strategy and stick to it.

“They sacked David Moyes, then LVG [Louis van Gaal] came in, a lot of technical possession players to fit his model. Then they sacked him.

“Jose came in, signed [Eric] Bailly, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic – very physical – gave him a new contract, then cut that path short. Then [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer has come in with British players. Four different strategies. Don’t keep changing all the time. ”

Man Utd vs Chelsea: Mourinho questions Lampard’s decision for not playing Willian in EPL clash
 


Former Premier League manager, Jose Mourinho has questioned the decision of Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard for not playing forward, Willian in the Blues’ Premier League 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.
Goals from Marcus Rashford (2), Anthony Martial (1) James (1) gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side all three points against Chelsea.

Lampard had said before the match that Willian is yet to regain full fitness level having won the 2019 Copa America with Brazil last month.
But Mourinho, a former Man United and Chelsea coach, believes Lampard should have featured the Brazilian international against the Red Devils.
“If William is injured… I understand that Willian is not here, if Willian is not injured and just late for his preparation, I don’t understand why he’s not here,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

“Because to play 20 mins, to play 30 mins you don’t need to be fit.
“You can come from three weeks with an injury and arrive, if you have the right mentality, you are ready.”

Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has criticised the performance of defender, Luke Shaw following the Red Devils’ 4-0 win over Frank Lampard’s side on Sunday at Old Trafford.
Mourinho questioned Shaw’s display against Chelsea by saying that new signing, Harry Maguire had to cover for the left-back during the match.

The Portuguese criticised Shaw for failing to close space in the box during the encounter.
Goals from Marcus Rashford (2), Anthony Martial (1) and Daniel James (1) gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side all three points against the Blues.
“When Maguire has to cover Luke Shaw, and he will need to realise that he will need to do that a lot of times this season, he is not closing down the space in the box,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

Meanwhile, speaking about Shaw in November 2018 before he was sacked by Man United, Mourinho told US Spanish-language TV channel Univision: “They’re lacking maturity. For example, Luke Shaw. When I got here two years ago, the boy didn’t even know how to compete. Great potential, yes, but he doesn’t know how to compete.”
Man United will take on Wolves in their next Premier League fixture on August 19.

Transfer: Mbappe reveals what will happen if Neymar leaves PSG
 


Paris Saint-Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe, has admitted that the team would never be the same again, if Neymar eventually leaves this summer.
Neymar is still linked with a move back to Spain, with Barcelona and Real Madrid keen.

And on Sunday, the Brazilian was left out of PSG’s squad, for their Ligue 1 opener against Nimes.
During the game, supporters of the French giants chanted for Neymar to leave.
Mbappe, who scored his club’s second during Sunday’s 3-0 win, made it clear that life without Neymar would change things at PSG.

When asked if the club could improve on last year’s showing, Mbappe told Canal+ “It depends, we will try.
“But we will not lie; we must also see what will happen with Neymar.
“It’s not the same team without Neymar as it is with him. But we will try to do it for the fans.”

Mourinho blasts Man Utd for selling Lukaku 


Jose Mourinho has said Manchester United could struggle in attack, following the departure of Romelu Lukaku.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Mourinho predicted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will face difficulty against teams who defend deeper.

Solskjaer opted to offload Lukaku to Inter this summer, which means Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez and 17-year-old Mason Greenwood will be competing for the central striker role.
Martial and Rashford both scored, as United beat Chelsea 4-0 in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford on Sunday.
But after the game, Mourinho raised doubts over whether Martial and Rashford will be able to maintain consistency throughout the season against more organised sides.

“I think they can when they are facing teams like Chelsea, I think they were too soft.
“It’s difficult to qualify them, they [Chelsea] were not compact defensively, too much space to play, not enough aggression on the ball, the defensive line, the midfield, the attack, they were not compact.
“I think United will find it much more difficult to play against teams with low compact blocks.

“If the blocks are low blocks it will be really difficult for them without a pure striker.
“With high blocks who can press them higher and be more aggressive, in the Premier League we have very good teams who can do that who are not in the top six, I think it can be difficult.
“In this moment, I think they don’t have a reason to feel anything but positive. A 4-0 result against Chelsea in the debut of the season is an amazing result.
“It’s very important that the dressing room feels like they can play to be champions. It’s very important they have that feeling.
“I think they will not be champions but they can obviously have a good season,” Mourinho said.

EPL: Lampard reveals why he dropped Pulisic for 4-0 defeat to Man Utd 


Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has said he plans to be patient with Christian Pulisic, after the American winger was only named as a substitute, for their season opener at Manchester United.
With the Blues currently serving a transfer ban, Pulisic is the only new signing at Chelsea this summer, after his £58million switch from Borussia Dortmund was agreed in January.

Lampard opted against handing Pulisic a start in his first competitive match in charge of the club on Sunday, choosing instead to field Pedro and Ross Barkley in the wide areas, with England youngster Mason Mount in support of forward Tammy Abraham.
Pulisic was eventually introduced in the 58th minute when he replaced Barkley.
Chelsea were already 1-0 down at that stage, thanks to a first half penalty from Marcus Rashford.

Pulisic had little time to make an impact on the game before United doubled their lead through Anthony Martial on 66 minutes.
Further breakaway goals from Rashford and debutant Daniel James, added more misery to Lampard.
Speaking after the game, Lampard revealed his reasons behind his team selection and his plans for Pulisic going forward.

“Christian Pulisic is 20 years old and he’s come across from Dortmund. He will be a fantastic player for the club. He has got great ability. You saw little moments with his acceleration on the ball.
“But I have also got other options in midfield and in those areas, and I don’t want to stick Christian straight into the fire without trying to help him along the way. It was one of those games where I felt it was better to start with Ross [Barkley] and Mason [Mount], who have been very strong in pre-season, and bring Christian on.
“If the game had carried on at 1-0, or we were back in the game as we should have been, he would have been a great injection. In the end, it was difficult for him because the game went quickly away from us,” Lampard told reporters.

PSG fans turn on Neymar, ask Brazilian to leave club
 

Neymar was the target of abuse during Paris Saint-Germain’s league opener against Nimes on Sunday.
The Brazilian was left out, as the Ligue 1 champions won 3-0.
But it did not stop the club’s supporters from making their opinion heard.
Just two years after moving to the French capital from Barcelona in a world-record transfer, Neymar has been widely linked with an exit.
Barca and Real Madrid are said to be interested.

Chants of “Son of a b*tch” rang out in the stands, while there were also banners calling for the Brazilian to “Get Out” of the club.
PSG boss, Thomas Tuchel, said on French TV show Canal Football Club, “I have no news on his future.
“He is with us. He was very decisive for us. If we lose Neymar, maybe I will not sleep. Because it would be hard to lose him and find another player who can do the same things for us. Maybe no news is good news.
“It’s hard not knowing. Because I want him at home. But we have to find solutions without him too.
“I’m trying to convince him to stay. But on the other hand, it’s a personal choice. It’s between him and the club.”

Tearful Serena retires injured in Rogers Cup final in Toronto

Serena Williams’ first U.S. Open tune-up ended in dramatic fashion as the tearful American was forced to retire with a back injury on Sunday.
She quit while trailing Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu 3-1 in the Rogers Cup final.

Williams, who hopes to chase a record-equalling 24th career Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open, seemed fine on court.
But she suddenly sat crying in her chair before deciding to retire 19 minutes into the match with back spasms.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t do it today. I tried but I just couldn’t do it,” an emotional Williams, who struggled to get the words out, told the crowd.
“It’s been a tough year but we’ll keep going.”
Andreescu consolidated an early break to move 3-1 up at which point Williams went to her chair where she called for the trainer and broke down in tears.

Williams said the spasms began during her three-set semi-final win over Czech Marie Bouzkova on Saturday.
They got so bad that she was unable to sleep and could not really move but she added that she at least wanted to try and play the final.
“I was just trying to figure out how do you play a match where you have no rotation?” said Williams.
“And I don’t want to get this far and not at least try. I think I would have really regretted not at least going out there and seeing maybe if a miracle happened.”
The 37-year-old Williams, whose competitive action this year has been severely limited because of knee issues, declared herself pain-free ahead of the tournament.
She had been hoping to use the event as a springboard for the rest of her hardcourt swing.

But the six-times U.S. Open champion, still without a title since returning from maternity leave in 2018, now faces her latest injury setback.
This is happening with the year’s final Grand Slam just two weeks away.


Williams, who is due to compete in Cincinnati next week, said she has experienced back spasms a lot in her career.
She said if this latest episode plays out like those before, she does not expect it to keep her out of any events.
“They’re incredibly painful, but it goes away after, like, 24, 36, maybe 48 hours, and like clockwork,” said Williams.
“In that first phase, it is incredibly painful, to a point where I usually don’t get out of bed. So, if it’s what typically happens, I will be fine, but I have to wait and see.”
As Williams sat dejected in her chair, Andreescu, who is no stranger to injury setbacks, went over to console her.
The pair embraced and had a heartfelt conversation.
Andreescu had shot to prominence with her Indian Wells triumph in March.
Competing this week for the first time since withdrawing from the French Open with a shoulder injury, she is the first Canadian to win the event in 50 years.
“I feel for Serena so much. I’ve been through so much the last year with injury, so I am so sorry she had to go out this way,” the 19-year-old said during the trophy ceremony.

Onyekuru lands in Monaco for 5-year deal

HENRY Onyekuru has finally arrived in France to sign a five-year contract with AS Monaco subject to passing a routine medical.
Onyekuru whose arrival in France was delayed by a visa hitch will be presented to the media today.

SCORENigeria first reported that Monaco and Onyekuru’s parent club Everton has agreed a 15 million Euros transfer for the Super Eagles’ winger.

This was after Everton’s application for a work permit for the player was not granted by the British Home Office.
‘Prince of Monaco’ Victor Ikpeba was the most successful Nigerian star at the Principality club where he won the French Ligue 1 and was crowned CAF African Player of the Year in 1997.
The likes of Sani Kaita and Lukman Haruna have also featured for Monaco.

Chukwueze scores superb goal

NIGERIA international forward Samuel Chukwueze opened his goal account for Villarreal in a seven-goal thriller which his team won 4-3 against Italian Serie A side Bologna in a pre-season friendly game.
Chukwueze returned to training last week as he was given an extended break due to his involvement with Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where Nigeria won bronze.

The left-footed forward was introduced in the second half and he wasted no time in making his mark with a trademark run drawing a foul which Santi Cazorla curled into the net to put Villarreal 2-1 up.
He increased the lead for his side with a solo effort after picking the ball from the right as he glided past his markers to bury the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper of Bologna to put his team 3-1 up.
More goals were scored in the remaining 27 minutes played after his goal and Villarreal edged what was their final pre-season game 4-3 ahead of their first LaLiga game against Granada at home on the 17th of August.

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has been warned by Paul Merson, that David Luiz’s departure to Arsenal will come back to haunt him.
Luiz left Stamford Bridge to sign a two-year deal with the Gunners on transfer deadline day.

Lampard began his reign in charge of the Blues, with a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
Kurt Zouma, who started in the centre of defence, gave away a penalty in the first half, which Marcus Rashford scored to make it 1-0.
The France defender was generally shaky and Merson, speaking to Sky Sports, insists Luiz was Chelsea’s best ball-playing defender.

“Frank Lampard has got to be careful. Chelsea have let their best ball-playing defender leave to go to their rivals, not just in London but in the top four. None of their defenders can play out from the back.
“I can understand if Chelsea pushed everyone up to the halfway line, the goalkeeper kicks it, and they play in the other half, but if you’re asking them to start playing out from the back, they’re going to get beaten left, right and centre.
“Kurt Zouma just didn’t look ready. He didn’t look ready before this, which is why he went out on loan. It’s a dangerous, dangerous game. The fans liked David Luiz. They need to get results quickly, because the fans won’t be happy watching them play out and lose the ball.

“It looked like Frank looked at the situation and thought: ‘I need it quiet here, I can’t be having problems’, so Chelsea let Luiz go. Sometimes that’s the way it is, and great managers have a high-maintenance player and get them to perform.
“I go to Stamford Bridge a lot, and Chelsea’s defence are asked to play out nearly all the time. Kepa doesn’t kick anything long. Luiz was the best player on the ball by a million miles. Now all of a sudden you’ve got players who can’t play out, and teams will suffocate them.
“First 45 minutes, Chelsea looked good but didn’t have that cutting edge. Tammy Abraham will take time; he’s been playing a lot in the Championship, and that’s where you’ll pick up bad habits. He would have had six chances in most games in the Championship.

“Mason Mount is a tidy player, and he’ll get better as time goes on. But it absolutely blew my mind when N’Golo Kante came on at 3-0 down. What for? If he’s fit enough to play, play him. If he’s not, why bring him on with 20 minutes to play? You may as well say to him: ‘Wait there, you’ll have another week training and get ready for another very, very big game on Sunday against Leicester.’ I was very surprised with that.
“It’s not just getting beat 4-0, it’s the way they were beaten. This is a different job for Frank, he’s now managing one of the biggest clubs in the country. He will learn, and you only learn from experience,” he said.

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, has privately urged Neymar to reject Real Madrid and push for a return to the Camp Nou, according to reports in Spain.
Neymar has made it clear that he wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain, before the end of the transfer window.

And the Ligue 1 champions are now open to allowing the Brazilian forward leave.

Nigeria's Michael Emenalo quits his job as Monaco's sporting director





 
Former Nigeria international defender, Michael Emenalo has left his role as Monaco's sporting director by mutual consent, on a day that the club signed Nigerian forward, Henry Onyekuru from Everton.
 
The 54-year-old joined the French Ligue 1 outfit in November 2017 after quitting a similar role at English side Chelsea. Monaco only avoided relegation from the top flight on the final day last season and the Principality side suffered a 3-0 home loss to Lyon on the opening day of the current season.

“I want to thank AS Monaco for giving me the opportunity to discover the French championship and wish the Club and supporters a great season 2019/2020,” Emenalo said.

He joined Chelsea in 2007 under Avram Grant, for whom he played at Maccabi Tel Aviv and spent a decade in West London. Emenalo worked in both the scouting and coaching departments at Chelsea before being promoted to technical director in 2011.
 
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012, plus three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the League Cup and Europa League.  Emenalo, who played for Notts County in the 1990s and for the San Jose Clash in the first MLS game, represented Nigeria at the 1994 World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo reveals what Zidane did to him at Real Madrid 


Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has said Zinedine Zidane made him feel special at Real Madrid and hailed the Frenchman’s man management.
Ronaldo left Madrid ahead of the 2018/19 season, after winning three consecutive Champions League titles under Zidane.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also won LaLiga title in 2016/2017.
And Ronaldo heaped praise on Zidane, who is now in his second stint in charge of Madrid.

 Transfer: Bayern Munich sign Man Utd target, Ivan Perisic
 


Manchester United target, Ivan Perisic has joined Bayern Munich on a season-long loan from Inter Milan.
Bayern made the announcement in a statement on the club’s official website on Tuesday.

The statement reads, “FC Bayern have signed Croatia international Ivan Perišić. The 30-year-old World Cup runner-up joins Bayern from Inter Milan with immediate effect.
“The two clubs have agreed a one-year loan deal until 30 June 2020, with the option for FC Bayern to sign the player on a permanent deal after that.”
“Everybody knows that Bayern is a really big club. For me, it comes in the best five in the world,” Perisic told the club’s official website.

“When a club like this calls, you cannot say no. That’s the reason I came here and I promise to give my best everyday.”

UEFA Super Cup: Liverpool squad to face Chelsea revealed [Full list] 


Liverpool have confirmed their squad that will tackle Chelsea in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash at Besiktas Park in Turkey.
The UEFA Champions League winners released a list of 23 players to face the UEFA Europa League holders on their official website on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men head to the game after defeating Norwich City 4-1 in the Premier League over the weekend, while Chelsea were defeated 4-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Liverpool vs Chelsea: Lampard predicts UEFA Super Cup final 


Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard has predicted a ‘tough’ clash when his side tackle Liverpool in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup final in Turkey.
He also said that his players need to be absolutely ready to face Jurgen Klopp’s side at the Vodafone Arena.

Lampard’s men head to the game after losing 4-0 to Manchester United in the Premier League over the weekend, while Liverpool defeated Norwich City 4-1.
“We need to be absolutely ready,” Lampard told UEFA’s official website.
“It’s a cup that the club desperately wants to win. I’ve never won it, a lot of players in there have never won it, so we have to give it everything.

“Going up against the team with the quality of Liverpool in a final is as tense as finals can be.

Football fans went crazy after midfielder N'Golo Kante nutmegged Liverpool Star James Milner in the UEFA Super Cup match, MySportDab reports.

Chelsea went 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Olivier Giroud towards the end of the first half.

Kante was brilliant in the build-up to the goal, ghosting past Liverpool's midfield to lay the ball onto Christian Pulisic, who threaded through to Giroud.

Kante’s best moment of the half, however, came at the expense of Milner.

The France international picked the ball up out wide before turning into the path of Milner, who could do nothing but watch as Kante popped the ball through his legs.

And football fans are absolutely loved it.

One said: “That Kante’s nutmeg on Milner was cleeeean!!!!!"
