Transfer: Manchester United to pay £50million for Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United are ready to increase their offer for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka to £50million, the UK Mirror reports.
United have had a £40m bid for Wan-Bissaka rejected by Palace, but are ready to up their bid for the England Under-21 international.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the 21-year-old, as the man to fill the right-back void at United long-term.
Antonio Valencia’s summer exit, Ashley Young’s age and Diogo Dalot’s relative inexperience, have led Solskjaer to pursue Wan-Bissaka as their first-choice right-back.
Although Palace value Wan-Bissaka at £60m, United believe they have a chance of landing him for £50m.

Transfer: Coutinho makes honest revelation about last season at Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho has admitted he did not have a good season with Barcelona, but has promised to improve.
The Brazilian playmaker made a €120million move from Liverpool to Barcelona in January 2018 and initially enjoyed success at Camp Nou.

But after eight goals and five assists in 18 league games in his half-season debut, Coutinho struggled in his first full campaign.
He managed just five goals and two assists in LaLiga, while adding another three goals and three assists in the Champions League.
Coutinho’s poor form has seen him linked with a summer exit, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, although the player is looking to stay and improve.

“I have not had a good season.
“My performances have been a lot worse than I expected they would.
“The only way to improve and gain confidence is through hard work, and I have been working hard,” he told reporters at Brazil’s national camp.

Aina Set To Join Torino On Permanent Deal

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sell Nigeria defender Ola Aina to Italian club Torino this summer.
The 22-year-old, who is a product of the Blues’ youth system, spent last season on loan with the Serie A club and looks to set to return there permanently.
Speaking to Sky Italy, Torino president Urbano Cairo confirmed that the club have exercised their option to buy Aina with the defender’s current deal set to expire at the end of June.

“We exercised our option to buy Ola Aina, as well as [Christian] Ansaldi and [Koffi] Djidji,” he said. “Now Torino own all their players.”
Aina plays predominately as a right-back, but is capable of playing as a wing-back or wide midfielder.
He previously spent the 2017/18 campaign on loan at Championship outfit Hull City, where he made 44 league appearances.
At Torino, Aina was equally as important and he played 30 of the Turin-based outfit’s 38 Serie A matches last year.
The defender has made six appearances for the Chelsea first team, three of which came in the cup competitions and three in the Premier League.

Aina is also a Nigeria international and has earned eight caps for the national side, the last of which came in October.
Given Chelsea’s impending transfer embargo, in which the club are restricted from signing players for the next two windows, added importance has been given to the club’s numerous returning loan players, several of whom could force their way into the first-team picture at Stamford Bridge in 2019/20.

Chelsea currently only have Cesar Azpilicueta and David Zappacosta as the club’s recognised right-backs, and Reece James could therefore be expected to compete with the duo for a starting berth.

Among the numerous loan signings expected to play a part next year for the Blues are: Tammy Abraham, who helped fire Aston Villa back to the Premier League, French defender Kurt Zouma, who was at Everton and Mason Mount, who spent the previous campaign under the tutelage of former Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

While the London club look unlikely to welcome any new signings to the Bridge this summer, they can look forward to the arrival of Christian Pulisic. The American was signed by Chelsea in January but immediately loaned to former club Dortmund.

2019 AFCON: Fitness Will Be Key For Success — Mikel

Super Eagles Captain John Obi Mikel believes fitness will be crucial for any team which has a victory at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in mind.
After the demanding campaign across Europe in the just-concluded 2018-19 season, 24 teams are ready to battle for glory later in the month, with the high temperatures predicted in Egypt.
Aware of the new competition format, Mikel – who has played in four AFCON tournaments – recalled how Nigeria won their third continental title in their last outing in South Africa 2013 and why fitness is key.
”I think obviously, fitness is going to play a big part in this tournament. It always does when it comes to African football. Fitness always plays 80 percent part on who wins the tournament.

”If you look back at 2013 when we won it, we were one of the fittest teams, we were well drilled, we put in the hard work during the camp, we knew exactly what we were doing. We were really fit.
”That’s what we are doing now, training twice a day. If you want to win this trophy you have to do things like that.”

Mikel is back in Gernot Rohr’s selection, after a long absence, since the country’s exit at the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The ex-Chelsea star is excited with the hunger shown by the ‘young’ Super Eagles as the country aims for a fourth continental crown in Egypt.
”I am happy that every player in this team want to do it, we want to achieve the same thing, we want to be in the final and win the tournament but we also need to know we are not the outright favourites, we have to remain cool, calm, just do what we have to do, not look at other teams. If we do that, we’ll keep winning games,” he added.
“Experience also plays a big part, sometimes youthfulness also plays a big part.

”We have got a very good mixture in this team that’s going to help us. We have a very young team, they are all fit.”
Nigeria will play Zimbabwe in an international friendly on Saturday in Asaba and later take on Senegal for their final build-up game in Egypt.

The West Africans are up against Burundi, Madagascar and Guinea in Group B of the biennial tournament.

I'm still struggling with depression' - Former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue admits

Former Ivory Coast and Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue has admitted that his struggles with mental health still continues.

The 36-year-old opened up on French television about his battle with depression and admitted he had even considered suicide. In an emotional interview he revealed his problems started when he was suspended by FIFA from all football-related activity for one year.

The ban which was given as a result of failing to pay money owed to a former agent, led to the termination of his short-term contract at then Premier League side Sunderland in March 2016. Without a professional club and shattered financially after a bitter and acrimonious divorce case, he admits he had suicidal thoughts.

"Sometimes I would lock myself in my room for three or four days. Just thinking and asking what's left. Even today, I still take antidepressants to help me because it is still a long road for me. But here I am hoping others would learn from this" Eboue told RMC Sport's Le Vestiaire (The Locker Room) in France.
Quote:"Being away from a competitive football pitch for a year was heartbreaking. I had to train by myself, and I was really ashamed because people looked at me differently. Some would say 'look it's Eboue, a Uefa Champions League finalist with Arsenal in 2006', to them it was surprising or shocking.
"Personally, I prefer to train in the morning, but there were people who were training at that time. They'd come to take a picture and post it all over [social media]. So I left to train at night."
As things got worse he began to lie to his family.  "I couldn't train during the day and too embarrassed to stay at home. My children always asked me when I was going to return to the field, so whenever I stepped out in the morning, I pretended to go to work.
"Unbeknown to my children I was staying outside and returning home when they were already in bed. I didn't want them to ask me why they didn't see me play on television."
After a time away from the media spotlight, to focus on his recovery, Eboue has recently been more willing to be seen in public.  As well his appearance on French TV he played for an Arsenal's Legends side against a Real Madrid Legends team last year.

Eboue, who is now retired from football, scored three goals in 79 appearances for Ivory Coast including at two World Cups (2006 and 2010) and five Africa Cup of Nations. At club level he spent eight seasons at Arsenal after arriving from Belgian side Beveren in 2004, before moving to Turkey in 2011, where he won three Turkish Super Lig titles and five domestic trophies with Galatasaray.

Lionel Messi has beaten Cristiano Ronaldo to be crowned the world's best paid athlete.
The Barcelona star took home £99.8million from salary and endorsements over the past 12 months, £14m more than Juventus talisman Ronaldo.

The world's most expensive ever footballer, Neymar, completes the top three as footballers dominate the podium spots of Forbes' list of the 100 highest paid athletes.

Messi leapfrogged Floyd Mayweather, who held the crown last year after his lucrative bout with Conor McGregor ensured he would lead the way for the fourth time in seven years.
'The global impact of soccer is clearly reflected in earnings in 2019, with the top three athletes on the list being Messi, Ronaldo, and Neymar,' said Kurt Badenhausen, senior editor, Forbes Media.
'But basketball players continue to dominate the top 100 overall with 35 athletes on the list earning a total of $1.29 billion (£1.01bn), with 72 per cent of that income coming from salaries rather than endorsement deals.'

Basketball dominates the overall top 100 with 35 athletes making the cut, which has reached its highest entry requirement ever at $25m (£19.6m).

The UK has the most athletes in the list of any country other than the United States, with five in total. Lewis Hamilton placed 13th - tied with Anthony Joshua, Rory McIlroy 32nd, Justin Rose 47th and Gareth Bale 79th.

Hamilton and Joshua both took home £43.2m ($55m), while McIlroy landed £30.7m ($39m).
Serena Williams made a welcome return to the overall top 100, placing 63rd after no women featured on the list last year.

The full list of the top 100 athletes can be found here.

Chelses have opened talks with former midfielder, Frank Lampard, over the possibility of succeeding Maurizio Sarri, Goal reports.

Although Sarri finished third in the Premier League and won the Europa League, he is set to return to Italy and sign for Juventus.

Max Allegri, whom Sarri will replace in Turin, was the early favourite to inherit the Stamford Bridge hot-seat.
The 51-year-old, however, is likely to undertake a sabbatical forcing Chelsea to pursue alternative options.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez, Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, Watford’s Javi Gracia have also been linked with the Stamford Bridge job, but Lampard is believed to be in front of the queue.

Chelsea are said to hold reservations over Lampard’s suitability, given his lack of managerial experience, with just one season at Derby under his belt.
The 40-year-old narrowly missed out on promotion, losing in the play-off final to Aston Villa.

Real Madrid have made a final decision on who to sign between Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, and Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen.
DAILY POST had reported that Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, wants the Los Blancos to sign Pogba this summer but the club’s president, Florentino Perez, prefers Eriksen instead of the 2018 France World Cup winner.

However, Marca is now reporting that the Spanish La Liga giants have now decided to sign Pogba instead of Eriksen.
The report also claimed that Man United will demand a fee of £133.5million for the 26-year-old former Juventus star.
Zidane believes he can bring the best out of Pogba, who has labelled Real Madrid as ‘a dream for every player’.

“If when his experience at United is over and he [Pogba] wants to come why would he not come to Madrid?” Zidane had said in May.

Monaco midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, has attacked Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, describing the Italian as stubborn and superstitious.
Fabregas said the former Napoli boss does not listen to advice from anybody.

Euro Soccer quoted the Spaniard as saying that Sarri who took over at Stamford Bridge last season, only believes in his own ideas.

Fabregas left Chelsea for Monaco last season after being snubbed by Sarri who preferred his Real Madrid import, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho, in the midfield.
Fabregas, while speaking about Sarri, said, “He’s very superstitious and stubborn in this way.

“He has an idea of how he wants to play and the football that he really wants to play.

Head coach of Ghana’s national team, James Kwesi Appiah, has left out FC Porto striker, Abdul Majeed Waris, from his final 23-man squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old, who spent last season on loan with French outfit Nantes, is one of five players cut from 28 players, currently in camp in the United Arab Emirates.
USA-based midfielder Ebenezer Ofori, who played at the 2017 Afcon, Ghana U-23 captain Yaw Yeboah and the local-based duo of Mohammed Alhassan (Hearts of Oak) and Abdul Safiu Fatawu (Asante Kotoko), are the others who didn’t make the cut.
Appiah’s men will take on South Africa in a second test game on Saturday, after a shock 1-0 defeat to Namibia on Sunday.

Ghana have been drawn against Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau in Group F.

Squad List:
Goalkeepers: Richard Ofori (Maritzburg United, South Africa), Lawrence Ati-Zigi (Sochaux, France), Felix Annan (Asante Kotoko, Ghana)

10-years after Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United, 5 players have worn the No 7 shirt but have only scored 15 league goals

In 2009, superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United for Real Madrid after scoring 84 goals from 196 appearances in the Red Devils' famous No 7 shirt during his six-year stay at Old Trafford.

He followed the successful footsteps of Manchester United legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, David Beckham and Eric Cantona. But since he departed for Real Madrid, those following have only managed to score just 15 goals among them.

They are Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia, Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and current occupant Alexis Sanchez.

Ronaldo's immediate replacement, former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle forward Owen, scored five goals from 31 appearances.

He was then followed by Valencia, who was signed from Wigan as a right-winger replacement for Ronaldo in 2009 but switched from the No 25 shirt to No 7 for the 2012-13 season. He could only score one from  30 appearances.

Winger, Angel Di Maria scored just twice despite playing 27 times for Manchester United following a £59.7million switch from Real Madrid.

Di Maria was followed by another flop, Memphis Depay, who scored twice from 29 appearances during the 2015-16 season before leaving for Lyon.
Incumbent No 7 Alexis Sanchez, who earns a whopping £500,000 per week at Old Trafford, has so far been able to score just  3 goals from 32 appearances.

It's safe to write that no player has been able to replicate the success of the famous No 7 shirt since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club 10-years ago.
