Daily Devotional for Sunday 28th April
#1
RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 28TH APRIL.

HE LEADS US THROUGH THE WORD

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God (Romans 8:14).

T he Holy Spirit leads us through the Word. Any counsel you receive that’s contrary to what the Word says, isn’t from the Holy Spirit. Some people pray about something, then an idea comes to them, and they say, “Well, God is leading me to do such-and-such.” If you were to ask them, “Why do you believe it’s God that’s leading you in that direction?” they’d say, “It’s because I prayed about it.”

The fact that you prayed isn’t enough! What did the Lord say to you after you prayed? Did He tell you expressly to go ahead and do whatever it is you think He’s leading you to do? Is the idea you got consistent with the Word? Is it consistent with His perfect will for you? His Word is His will expressed. Yielding to the Spirit means yielding to the lordship, supremacy and guidance of His Word.

This is why knowing the Word for yourself is absolutely indispensable. It’s important to have accurate knowledge of the Word. The more submissive you are to the lordship of the Word, the easier you’ll recognise the Spirit’s guidance. His desire is to lead you from glory to glory.
Our theme verse says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” To fulfil God’s destiny for your life, you must learn to follow the Spirit in the Word, by the Word, and through the Word. Don’t be in a hurry when seeking His guidance; be patient until you hear His voice—His words— in your spirit. Then you’re ready to go! His Word gives you light, and direction, and holds the solution to every problem.

Irrespective of the troubles, adversities, and challenges, trust the Word. Put your faith in the Word. Become so inundated with the Word until the Word alone is all you think, talk and live out. The Word enjoins us, “...Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).

PRAYER

Dear Father, your Word gives me strength and ministers courage to my spirit. My faith is strong and active, and it prevails over circumstances as the Spirit guides me in the path of life. His truth and wisdom are the forces of my life, propelling me from glory to glory as I walk in the Spirit, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

1 John 1:7; But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Isaiah 30:21; And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
Psalm 119:105; Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

#TALKINGSESSION

28TH APRIL.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear heavenly Father, I thank You for the privilege of prayer; a place of heartfelt communion, to stir up myself and take a hold of Your Word for my life. Thank You for giving me the ability to effect changes through prevailing prayers. I am in charge; therefore, I refuse to bear any

infirmity, sickness or disease in my body because Jesus has taken away all my infirmities and carried my sorrows; He was pierced for my transgressions, cursed for my iniquities and the punishment that brought me peace was laid upon Him, and by His wounds I was healed. Today, I live in the Father’s perfect will for me. Hallelujah!

God bless you

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SUNDAY 28TH APRIL 2019

THEME: WHEN IT’S NECESSARY TO FORGIVE.

MEMORISE:

Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Matthew 18:21

READ: Mark 11:24-26

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

MESSAGE

Forgiveness is a term used to indicate pardon for a fault or mistake committed by someone. It means to end the feeling of animosity towards a person for an offence committed and signifies the liberation of that person from guilt and its consequences, including punishment. It usually comes as an act of unmerited favor, compassion or love, with the aim of restoring a broken relationship. Forgiveness is synonymous with pardon, and it is also used in reference to the cancellation of debts. In God’s eyes, to forgive is more about the restoration of a broken relationship that just a change of one’s mind or emotions towards a person who committed an offense. Indeed, forgiveness can be costly and painful. Nevertheless, God demands that we forgive because He Himself first forgave us, and He continues to do so today.

God forgives our sins out of love and because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross of Calvary (Acts 13:38-39, 1 John 1:6-9). Having received His forgiveness through faith in the atoning Blood of Jesus, our sins are no longer held against us as children of God (Romans 3:25). The forgiveness we receive is a part of the justification that come through grace. In pardoning sin, God effectively removes the guilt of sin, absolves the sinner of the condemnation of the law, and liberates the pardoned from eternal damnation. By this act of grace, the sinner is forever freed from the guilt and penalty of sin. This is God’s special prerogative, offered freely to all men through the gospel of Jesus. We access this free gift by confessing our sins unto God, genuinely repenting of them and becoming born again.

As God has shown us unmerited love, mercy and grace, in wiping all our sins away with the Blood of Jesus, he commands us to do the same to our fellow men. We are to love our neighbors and keep no record of sin against them. As a matter of fact, God expects forgiveness to form part of our lifestyle, keeping in mind that receiving forgiveness from God is dependent on us forgiving our neighbors (Luke 6:37). Ephesians 4:32 says:

“ And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”

Forgiveness leads to peace, reconciliation, healing, unity, progress, joy, prosperity and answered prayers. Whenever these things are lacking and we find ourselves stricken by our conscience, forgiveness is needed. Let the love of God radiate through you to others, so that you can also become a beneficiary of the Lord’s abundant blessings.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please make me a person of peace and help me to forgive easily, in Jesus’ Name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Genesis 36-37 Jeremiah 26:12-24

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 5: LET OTHERS SEE JESUS IN YOU.

1.While passing thro' this world of sin,
and others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within;
Let others see Jesus in you.

Refrain:
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you.
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true;
Let others see Jesus in you.

2. Your life's a book before their eyes,
They're reading it thro' and thro'
Say, does it point them to the skis,
Do others see Jesus in you?

Refrain

3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
Be faithful, be brave and true,
and lead the lost to life and Christ.
Let others see Jesus in you.

Refrain

*THE LIVING WATER*

*DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE*

*Sunday, April 28, 2019*

*TOPIC: MAKING A GOOD NAME*
*Read: Ecclesiastes 7:1-10*

*MEMORISE: _A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold_ (Proverbs 22:1).*

*EXPOSITION*

The context of a man is not enough to form a good name. It takes the good context and good character to make a good name. Many people carefully select names that have good contexts but are very careless about good character and good works that constitute a very vital part of attaining good name. A man’s good work produces good report about, and good name for him.

A good name is the consolidation of good context and good character or attitude of anybody. Judas Iscariot is a name good context, but the character of the bearer negated the name to the extent that hardly would anybody want to be addressed by that name today. The name Judas in Hebrew means _The Praised One,_ and Iscariot means _A Man from Kerioth._ However, the name has become synonymous today with being a traitor, because ‘apostle’ Judas-Iscariot betrayed Jesus.
What is your name? How are your character and works? What are those reports about your person and character, both divine and human, that are actually not giving you the kind of name God would be pleased with or that you would want to be mentioned in the public?

To be adjudged one with a godly name and character by both heaven and humans, the name compatible with the good context of your name, you must have been born again. Only Christ can give you victory over temptations that can soil your garment *(Rom. 6:1ff).* Then, make it a regular habit to be learning at the feet of Christ, both personally and corporately (with fellow Christians). And receive the grace by His Spirit to be living the life of Christ *(cf. 2 Cor. 5:17).*

*PRAYER POINTS*

*1.* Separate me, Lord, from the things that can hinder me from attaining good name, in Jesus’ name.
*2.* Pray that God should make our church and national leaders to be more conscious of making good names and leaving godly legacies behind, than amassing unnecessary wealth.
*3.* O Lord, restore the lost good name and glory of our nation.
*EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 1 Samuel 13:3 – 14:43; Luke 18:31 – 19:9*
GOOD MORNING AND HAPPY LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH, BE BLESSED AS YOU WORSHIP THE LORD, TODAY.
JESUS CHRIST IS COMING BACK VERY SOON, BE READY
