- New Year's Eve
TOPIC: WHERE, AFTER GOOD NIGHT?
Read Philippians 3:17-21
17. Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
MEMORISE: For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20)
EXPOSITION
The homeland of believers in Christ Jesus is not this world, but eternity with Christ in heaven (Phil. 3:20). It is duty bound on the citizens of a country to work for the progress and success of the activities of such country. It is equally expected of Christians who know their citizenship is in heaven to seek and do the biddings of our King. We have the obligations to promote the interest of Christ's Kingdom, our home after our sojourn here on earth.
Nehemiah was a comfortable slave in the palace of Susa. Yet, his heart went out for the ruined Jerusalem. He sought for the necessary information regarding how he could help his homeland. He knew that no matter how long he would stay in that foreign land, he would one day be back home, because God had promised them.
When last did you ask after your heaven homeland (Heb. 13:9a). Apparently, things here may look well, but are you going to forget our home - the place of everlasting bliss with our Saviour?
Brethren, the laws, decrees and practices of foreign land, may not be fair to us. Yet, like Daniel, we must strictly follow the principles of heaven. The young Hebrews stood their ground, because their love for their home (cf. Psa. 137:5). We too have a home. The most important thing is preparing to return to our homeland; all other things are secondary and less important (cf. Matt. 16:26).
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me to reign with You anytime You return.
2. This world is not my own; I am just passing through. Lord, help me to always remember and live by this, to make Your Heaven.
3. Lord, restore the right and passionate, regular teaching about the rapture and Your Second Advent in churches everywhere, as against the godless prosperity gospel ravaging unsuspecting and careless churches, today.
EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: Zech. 14:14 - 14:21; Mal. 1:1 - 4:7; Rev. 21:27 - 22:21
