Footballer whose family claimed he had been ‘killed in car crash’ is discovered alive as his ex-wife is probed for fraud after six-figure insurance pay-out
A footballer whose family said he died in a car crash in 2016 is said to be alive in Germany, with his ex-wife now being probed for fraud after a six-figure insurance pay-out.
Hiannick Kamba, a former Schalke defender was said to have died in his native Congo before a "six-figure sum" was reportedly paid to his wife as part of an insurance settlement.
According to German outlet Bild, Kamba, who is now said to be 33, is back in the Ruhr area of Germany and working back at his old job as a chemist for a power supplier. Other German outlets describe Kamba as "obviously not dead".
The talented right-back played alongside Bayern Munich and Germany icon Manuel Neuer for Schalke's youth team before his departure in July 2007.
He also played for a variety of lower league German sides and was playing for eighth tier outfit VFB Huls when news of his death emerged during a January 2016 trip to his homeland in Congo.
It was reported that Kamba, who was 29 at the time, left his friends for a trip to the "interior" of the African country without his papers, phone or money and died in a car crash.
When news of the death reached Germany, Kamba's ex-wife reportedly produced a Congolese death certificate and a funeral announcement in order to secure the pay-out.
After reportedly traveled back to Germany in March 2018, he was seen alive near his home old home in Gelsenkirchen.
Essen city attorney general, Annette Milk has announced a public prosecution against the unnamed ex-wife, 39, who only learned of the life insurance policy after the alleged death.
Milk said: "The accused is accused of fraud. But she denies the charge. The process is still ongoing."
Kamba was said to have reported to the German embassy in the Congolese capital Kinshasa in 2018 to address the "fake news" of his death and inform authorities of the "actual situation."
The former footballer, who has no charges against him will be called as a witness in the trial.
In 1986, Kamba fled the Congo with his parents as a youngster and after his family were deported back to the war-torn nation in 2005, he was granted full asylum and residency rights to stay in Germany after the interference of his club.

Lionel Messi among Barcelona players set to undergo tests for Coronavirus today
Superstar footballer, Lionel Messi and other Barcelona stars are set to undergo tests for Coronavirus on Wednesday morning as they prepare to return to training ahead of Spain's LaLiga restart in June.
This comes after the country's ministry of health gave clubs permission to return to their training grounds after lockdown rules were relaxed.
After getting tested, players who do not have coronavirus or symptom of the disease will train individually.
Barcelona have already announced that they are planning to welcome their players back to the Joan Gamper sports city on Wednesday ahead of LaLiga return in June behind closed doors.
'The football first team will be back at the Ciutat Esportiva on Wednesday for the relevant medical tests ahead of starting training individually in the coming days,' a club statement read.
'LaLiga has given the go-ahead for the tests to be carried out after the club facilities are inspected on Tuesday. On Wednesday the medicals will be carried out to guarantee the players' health.'
'This crisis has had a profound impact on all of us,' said Javier Tebas, the president of LaLiga.
'The return of football is a sign that society is progressing towards the new normal. It will also bring back an element of life that people in Spain and around the world know and love.
'People's health is paramount, so we have a comprehensive protocol to safeguard the health of everyone involved as we work to restart La Liga.
'Circumstances are unprecedented, but we hope to start playing again in June and finish our 2019-20 season this summer.'
Spain's president Pedro Sanchez has also welcomed football's return despite 25,000 deaths and over 250, 000 cases from Coronavirus.
'We hope that football will soon be back, La Liga and the [Royal Spanish Football] Federation will decide that, but they already have our permission to begin individual training in team sports,' Sanchez explained on Saturday.

Footballer, Farid El Melali arrested for allegedly masturbating in public after signing a new contract with his club in France
Algerian and Angers winger, Farid El Melali was arrested after he was allegedly caught masturbating in public in France.
The Algeria international had only just signed a contract extension until 2023 with Ligue 1 club Angers earlier on Monday before he was allegedly seen later in the evening masturbating while peering into a female neighbour's flat.
The footballer's lawyer Sandra Chirac-Kollarik said: "He wasn't targeting anyone, and wasn't aggressive towards anyone."
The winger admitted an "inappropriate attitude" when police arrested him questioning. He has since been charged with indecent exposure.
El Melali is said to have claimed that he thought he was alone in the courtyard of the building in question.
He was released but will be "tried soon in the context of a pre-conviction appearance, the equivalent of a guilty plea," add Le Parisien.
The prosecutor alleges there is an allegation against El Melali for a similar offence in April, although the witness was reportedly unable to identify him.
The Algerian footballer is expected to be fined by his club.
Angers have acknowledged the situation but said they will "wait for the decision" before commenting further.

Angela Merkel Authorizes The Bundesliga To Resume This Month
The German Bundesliga season can resume this month, Chancellor Angela Merkel has confirmed.
It will become the first major league in Europe to return to competition, with a date for resumption to be confirmed by the German Football League (DFL) on Thursday.
All matches will be played behind closed doors.
With nine games remaining, Bayern Munich are top of the table, four points above Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern chairman Karl Heinz Rummenigge said: "I would like to thank the politicians for giving today's decision [and for] the opportunity to finish the Bundesliga season.
"We are now looking forward to resuming play, ideally from mid-May. This ensures that the sporting decisions are made on the pitch.
"I appeal to everyone involved to follow the requirements, which are the basis for resuming games, in an exemplary and extremely disciplined manner."
Christian Seifert, chief executive of the DFL, added: "Today's decision is good news for the Bundesliga and the Bundesliga 2.
"It is associated with a great responsibility for the clubs and their employees to implement the medical and organisational requirements in a disciplined manner.
"Games without spectators are not an ideal solution for anyone. In a crisis threatening the very existence of some clubs, however, it is the only way to keep the leagues in their current form."
The announcement comes a day after clubs in the top two German divisions returned 10 positive results from 1,724 coronavirus tests.
The DFL had warned that many top-division teams would be in an "existence-threatening" financial position if play did not resume by June.
Players returned to training last month, with the DFL initially saying the league would be ready to return on 9 May.
Germany has banned large events with crowds until 24 October, so games will be behind closed doors, but the DFL has developed a health and safety plan that would see only about 300 people or near the pitch during matches, to minimise the risk of infection.
According to official figures, just under 7,000 people have died in Germany from coronavirus, a much lower figure than in other western European countries including the UK, Italy, France and Spain.
It was also announced on Wednesday that the Turkish Super Lig will resume on 12 June with the aim being to complete the season by the end of July.
The country's football federation chairman Nihat Ozdemir said Turkey intended to host the Champions League final in Istanbul in August as planned.
The Croatian top-flight is also poised to resume - without spectators - with cup ties to take place on 30 May, followed by league action on 6 June, pending government approval.
Spain's La Liga has announced plans for a June return and president Javier Tebas said the league was "pleased" with the Bundesliga's decision.
"This is good news for European football and for the return to the new normal after this crisis," he added.

NFL star, Earl Thomas held at gunpoint by his wife after she caught him cheating
Nina Thomas, the wife of NFL star Earl Thomas was arrested after she held a loaded gun to his head when she allegedly caught him cheating with another woman.
Court documents obtained by TMZ Sports detailed a violent altercation on April 13 involving the Baltimore Ravens player, Nina Thomas and several other people.
The Austin Police Dept. responded to a home in the Austin, Texas area at 3:41 a.m. after getting a call about a disturbance.
When cops arrived, they say "we observed that a black female wearing an orange sweater with a knife in her hand, later identified as Nina Thomas, was chasing a shirtless black male, later identified as Earl Thomas, with a pistol in his hand around a vehicle."
Cops drew their weapons and ordered both Nina and Earl to the ground and they complied without incident. That's when the investigation began.
According to court documents, Nina claims Earl, 30, left their home earlier in the day after an argument over the NFL player's drinking habit. She claims Earl's brother, Seth Thomas, picked him up.
A short time later, she decided to check on his whereabouts by logging into his Snapchat account and that's when she says she found video of Earl with another woman.
Nina says she used Earl's Snapchat account to track his location to a nearby Airbnb rental home and says she called up two other women to help her confront Earl at the house. Nina also claims she grabbed Earl's pistol, a 9mm Berreta, in the process with the intention to "scare him."
When the women arrived at the house, they "discovered Earl and Seth naked in bed with other women."
That's when Nina admits she pulled out the gun and put it to Earl's head stating "that she took out the magazine thinking that the gun could not fire."
Cops say Nina was "unaware that the gun had a round in the chamber."
Cops say one of the women in the house shot cell phone video of the incident which they say shows Nina pointing the gun at Earl's head "from less than a foot away and it can clearly be seen that Nina's finger was on the trigger and the safety is disengaged."
Fortunately for Earl, cops say the Ravens defensive back was able to wrestle the gun away from her.
Cops say the cell phone video also shows Nina striking Earl in the nose before it ends.
Cops also spoke with Earl, who corroborated the story, adding that Nina repeatedly hit him while he attempted to take the firearm away.
In an interview with Earl's alleged mistress at the scene, she claimed Nina also threatened her and the other woman in the house, pointing the gun at them and yelling "I got something for all you hoes!"
The woman claims one of Nina's other friends was carrying a knife and swinging it aggressively during the altercation as well.
After speaking with everyone, cops arrested Nina and both women who went with her to confront her husband. Nina was booked for burglary of a residence with intent to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and family violence. She was later bonded out.
Earl was not arrested.
Court records show Nina was also hit with an emergency protective order requiring her to stay 200 yards away from Earl and his alleged mistress.
Earl is one of the best defensive players in the NFL. He's a 7-time Pro Bowl defensive back who won Super Bowl XLVIII as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
When contacted by TMZ Sports, Nina's attorney, Jonathan Goins, said, "I am here to declare that my client unequivocally and categorically denies these allegations and we look forward to our day in court where we can clear her good name."
Earl Thomas released a statement on social media regarding the incident.
His statement reads: "Instead of talking about us, just keep us in y'all prayers. Stuff like this happens. We try to live the best lives we possibly can. Sometimes it doesn't go as planned."
Earl and Nina got married in an extravagant wedding back in April 2016. Russell Wilson and Ciara even attended the ceremony.

Manchester United suspend talks with Shanghai Shenhua over extending Odion Ighalo's loan
Manchester United have suspended talks with Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua over extending Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo's deal with the club due to uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
According to Daily Mail UK, United want to retain the striker after he scored four goals in eight games, but the issue has been complicated by the global football shutdown as Ighalo's loan is due to expire on May 31.
Shanghai Shenhua is ready to offer the 30-year-old a new contract worth £400,000 a week, and want the striker back as the Chinese Super League is set to resume soon. The Premier League, however, have yet to set a date ahead of a key vote among clubs on Monday.
According to the report, United want to know when the season will resume before committing to a new deal for Ighalo who have been paying £130,000 a week during two months of football inactivity due to the pandemic
According to Daily Mail, ''Another factor is the return to fitness of Marcus Rashford and, to a lesser extent, Paul Pogba in that time. It was Rashford's lay-off due to a back fracture that led to United signing Ighalo in the first place.''
Ighalo is the first Nigerian to play for the Manchester United first team.

Spanish defender, Fali refuses to return to training as he vows to quit football until a vaccine for Coronavirus is found
Rafael 'Fali' Jiménez Jarque, who plays as a defender for Cádiz CF, has become the first Spanish player to refuse to return to training and will give up his wages amid the Coronavirus crisis.
The 26-year-old, who made 23 league appearances before league games were canceled also vowed to quit football until a Coronavirus vaccine is found.
While football in Spain is set to restart in June with training sessions to kick off this weekend, Fali said he will not be involved.
'I do not plan to play football and I will not ask for wages because I am a player of principles,' Fali told radio station Cadena Cope.
'I will not charge the club because I do not deserve it. The most important thing is my health and that of my daughters.
'I will not names any names, but there are other players who are afraid to play too, they have told me.
'I have a little money saved, if I need to find another job I will do so – but I do not want to expose myself or my family.
'Footballers look like superheroes but we are just people and right now I am going to wait. Maybe in 10 or 15 days, I will return to training.'
Last month, Fali, also spoke out about the risk of returning amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
He said: 'We are crazy if we have any intention of playing football because we would be exposing ourselves to a high level of risk.
'I will not train or play again if there is any risk. If I have to quit football, I will.
'I want LaLiga and health authorities to at least sign a contract with the players giving us 100 percent assurances that it (playing and training) is safe.'
Cadiz president Manuel Vizcaino understood his opposition but said he would try to convince Fali to play.
He said: 'He is wrong, but he does not lie to anyone. He is afraid and we have to work to remove his fear. I think I am going to get Fali back.'

Real Madrid give Arsenal deadline for Aubameyang’s transfer
May 10, 2020
Real Madrid have given Arsenal a June 15 deadline over the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the UK Mirror reports.
The LaLiga giants are among the clubs eyeing a move for Aubameyang, who has just one year left on his current contract in north London.
The Gabon striker is not expected to sign a new deal at the Emirates, which leaves the Gunners with a decision to make between cashing in now or allowing his contract to run down.
Real Madrid will, however, not wait beyond the middle of next month to know whether or not the 30-year-old will join them.
Los Blancos also want to explore a potential swap deal including Dani Ceballos, who is currently on a one-year loan at the Emirates.

Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final match against Barcelona was fixed – Guus Hiddink alleges
May 10, 2020
A former Chelsea manager, Guus Hiddink, has claimed that the Blues’ 2009 UEFA Champions League semi-final defeat to Barcelona might have been fixed.
Hiddink said that the officiating of the encounter by referee Tom Henning Ovrebo was the worst he has ever seen.
Chelsea was denied a spot in the Champions League final after Ovrebo made a series of blunders.
Ovrebo, who now works as a psychologist in Oslo, turned down four Chelsea’s penalty claims, and the West London club was cruelly eliminated from the Champions League by Andres Iniesta’s 94th-minute goal for Barcelona which put them through on the away goal’s rule.
After the match, Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba, verbally attacked Ovrebo, and later received a five-match ban.
“The referee performance surprised me because, in the past, he would have perfect performances,” Hiddink told Ziggo Sport.
“Is it the worst refereeing I have ever seen? I think so.
“This is the only time I thought a match could have been fixed.”
Meanwhile, Ovrebo has since admitted to making genuine mistakes during the encounter.
“It was not my best day,” Ovrebo told Marca in 2018.
“But those mistakes can be committed by a referee, and sometimes a player or a coach.
“Some days, you aren’t at the level you should be.
“But no, I cannot be proud of that performance.
“There were several errors, and everyone will have their opinion of those plays.”

Manchester United not happy with De Gea
May 9, 2020
Manchester United are not happy with the performance of their first-choice goalkeeper, David de Gea.
This claim was made by respected football expert and journalist, Duncan Castles.
According to Castles, Man United believe they made a huge mistake by signing a lucrative long-term contract last year with De Gea and would be glad to offload the 29-year-old Spain international should an offer come along for him.
“Manchester United are not happy with the performance of De Gea post-signing that record contract,” Castles told Transfer Window Podcast.
“They basically put themselves in the position where they had to pay him far, far more money than any other club was prepared to pay him. So they have saddled themselves.
“It is a hugely expensive contract for a player whose performances have declined since he signed that contract.
“My understanding is that there is a thought within the camp that were someone to offer De Gea a contract and the opportunity to move elsewhere the strategic thing to do would be to take that wage off their wage bill and sell him.”
“It is going to be very difficult to find a buyer for De Gea because of the coronavirus situation.”

EPL: Willian offered three-year deal to leave Chelsea for Arsenal
May 9, 2020
Chelsea winger, Willian, is believed to be mulling over a three-year deal from Arsenal, Daily Cannon reports.
Willian is set to become a free agent this summer, when his current deal runs out at Stamford Bridge.
With the 2019/2020 campaign still to be concluded, players who are out of contract at the end of June pose a headache to both clubs and the Premier League.
However, Arsenal are already looking at free transfers and swap deals this summer, as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad.
Earlier this month, Willian admitted he had no qualms about joining another Premier League club.
“It really is a hard decision. I identified myself a lot at Chelsea, I have a lot of love for everyone at the club, and the fans.
“However, it is like I said before, if I leave Chelsea with no trouble and leaving the doors open, it would be fine to move to a rival club,” he said.
