Patricia Amadin: #EndSARS Protesters Hail Policewoman In Lagos (pics)
Some #EndSARS protesters have begun to shower accolades on Patricia Amadin, a divisional police officer (DPO) of Anthony police station in Lagos state, for her “encouragement and support” during the campaign.
This is coming hours after a man, believed to be a mobile police officer, joined the #EndSARS protest in Lagos while venting his anger at the police unit.
TheCable had earlier reported how Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), announced the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on Sunday after the nationwide outrage.
But shortly after the Adamu’s pronouncement, photos and video clips of the police officer calmly addressing #EndSARS protesters in the commercial city started to gain momentum.
In one of the short videos, Amadin could be heard telling the protesters that she would “escort” them alongside her team as they continued their peaceful agitation for an end to police brutality.
In another footage, she could be seen assuring the #EndSARS protesters that her team would not impinge on their freedom of expression as enshrined in the constitution.
Several Nigerians have since taken to the micro-blogging platform to hail the police officer’s “heroics” while others also recounted their previous encounters with her.
“Hello Twitter family ! Please let’s give this woman 1k Rt she is the DPO of Anthony police station, she is truly a mother . She gave the protesters morale and security at today’s protest #EndSARS #Nigeria #EndPoliceBrutality,” a Twitter user wrote.
One of the users, who lauded the police officer, recounted how she came to his rescue when her colleagues arrested him for moving around with a power bike after the state government had banned movement of motorcycles.
“During the bike ban, trigger happy policemen held me at Maryland and insisted that the ban covers power bikes. She was the one that let me go. beautiful soul, we gisted for a bit. She’s doing her second masters as we speak, Better woman!!!!,” the user wrote.
Below are what Nigerians had to say about her:
@Franklyn___:
Quote:The only sane police officer I've seen so far.
she is the DPO of Anthony police station, she is truly a mother . She gave the protesters morale and security at today’s protest #EndSARS #Nigeria
#EndSarsNow
@chu_chu_ezekwem:
Quote:Heard this was DPO of Anthony. She coordinated protesters
@CertifiedHope:
Quote:On the contrary, there are humane officers among them who know what is right. Yesterday, we read about the DPO of Anthony police station not only giving clearance but also went ahead to give police protection to the protesters.

IK Ogbonna's Colombian ex-wife, Sonia narrates scary experience with SARS officers in Lagos as she joins the call to end SARS
Ik Ogbonna's ex-wife Sonia La Reina has joined the call to end SARS and she narrated her unpleasant experience with SARS officers in Lagos.
The Colombian compared SARS to area boys as she revealed that some area boys came to her help when she had a minor car accident but SARS officers, who are meant to save lives, put her through trauma when they chased after the car she was in.
She said she brought her son back to Nigeria because she wants him to embrace his culture, and for his sake, she wants Nigeria to be better and safer.
She wrote:
Quote:The other day, late in the evening , in Lagos,I had a lil car accident, and “infamous” area boys came out ( immediately lol) but guess what? They were super nice, they actually helped me out & made sure I was fine ! Just a few days later, SARS guys blocked a whole damn street standing on the road with guns , like the worst case scenario armed robbers , and luckily for me, my driver is super skilled and he found a way to reverse fast and miraculously dodge them. Next thing, this guys too got in their vehicle and started chasing us (?!) but thank God we escaped.
I don’t want to know what would happen if they caught us. It was like a movie scene or something, I got super scared, and to think that “keeping us all safe” is in their “job description” literally made me feel even worst .
I brought my son back to his beautiful country, my second home , because I want him to grow up as a fully grounded Nigerian, a Lagosian , embrace his authentic, rich and unique culture & heritage, and contribute, with love and care, in making his own land better tomorrow when he grows up, but now it’s our turn to stand for what’s right and make it bearable & possible for all our brilliant children, the leaders of tomorrow, to continue building this amazing nation in the best possible way , in freedom , UNITY and safety! #EndSarsNow#EndPoliceBrutality

EndSARS Protesters block major roads, streets in Calabar
…protest at Police Command Headquarters
About 1000 protesters including celebrities took over major streets in Calabar, Cross River State capital to protest against all forms of Police brutality, unprofessional conduct by some units in the police force.
Although the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu on Sunday disclosed that the unit(FSARS)has been dissolved but a lot of Nigerians are still in doubt that thier disbanding was a charade and the move untrustworthy.
Vanguard gathered that the protest which started at about 10:00 am saw many residents of Calabar take to the street causing gridlock along most popular and commercial roads including Mary Slessor by Watt Market, Marian Road, IBB Way, Murtala Mohammed Highway, and others.
They further took the protest to the governor’s office, the Headquarters of the state police Command where they were addressed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Samuel Musa.
DCP Musa said that all was now under control following the directive of the IGP while pleading with the protesters to proceed peacefully and avoid breaching public peace as it will also be an infringement on the rights of other citizens.
The protesters were carrying placards and chanting, “Stop Police Brutality, “Increase police salaries to end extortion”, “You messed with the wrong generation, “Reform the police immediately”, “We are humans not lab rats, “End SARS not disband SARS” amongst others
The protest was joined by popular Calabar celebrities; artistes, comedians, actors, and activists who also expressed dissatisfaction over the unprofessional conduct of some police officers
However, President Muhammadu Buhari has addressed the Nation stressing his administration is committed to extensive police reforms.
“The disbanding of SARS is only the first step in our commitment to extensive police reforms in order to ensure that the primary duty of the police and other law enforcement agencies remains the protection of lives and livelihood of our people,” he said

Falz: Who Is Wike To Tell The Citizens Not To Protest
Nigerian musician and lawyer Folarin falana aka Falz the bhad guy challenges Wike.
Governor of rivers state has already ordered protesters to stop any protest they planned for today

Quote:The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has banned #EndSARS protests in the state.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Rivers State commissioner for information, Paulinus Nsirim, the governor said that since the police has scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), there was “no need for any form of protest against a unit of the police force that no longer exists.”
Mr Wike said law enforcement agencies have been directed to enforce the ban and “bring violators to book.”
“Parents and guardians are therefore advised to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order,” the statement said.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday announced the “dissolution” of SARS, a police unit notorious for its brutality against innocent citizens.
The dissolution followed a nationwide protest and call for the scrapping of SARS.
Despite the police announcement, protesters have continued to march through the streets in various parts of the country.
The protests have generally been peaceful, except in some places where the police deployed force and fired live bullets and teargas to disperse protesters.

Quote:EndSARS Protesters Shut Down Iwo Road, Causing Gridlock
Protesters against police brutality, extra-judicial killing, and extortion have blocked Iwo road in Ibadan on Tuesday morning, causing gridlock.
The PUNCH gathered that the protesters arrived at the road a few minutes to 09 am.
According to a commuter, many travellers are stranded and held in traffic.
One of the protesters, identified simply as Akande, said, “It is our right to protest. We apologise to those affected by the gridlock, but we expect that they should be part of us. They are also exploited by policemen while travelling.”
Nigerians on Tuesday continued their protests to pressure the Federal Government to follow through on disbanding the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
The Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammed, had on Sunday announced the dissolution of the FSARS in after widespread protest.
The protesters blocked highways in Lagos on Monday, demanding that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), addresses them.
Buhari on Monday insisted that “disbanding of SARS is only the first step in our commitment to extensive police reforms”.
“The purpose of law enforcement and the purpose of policing is for the safety of lives and livelihood of Nigerians,” he said.
But protesters vowed to keep up the pressure, saying previous pledges to disband the unit and punish officers responsible for abuses were not honoured.
