Twitter users react after Kelechi Iheanacho is ''hit'' by goalkeeper in Man City's win over Leicester (photos/video)
Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho was wiped out by Manchester City goalkeeper, Ederson, five minutes before half-time in Leicester’s 1-0 defeat on Saturday, after he collided with the Brazilian as they both competed for the ball.
Iheanacho while trying to head home James Maddison’s pass, got hit in the face by goalkeeper Ederson, who was trying to reach the ball first. Leicester appealed for a penalty, but only a corner was given, and while Iheanacho continued after treatment, he was substituted at the break on the advice of the club medical staff.
No penalty or red card was given and now some football fans on Twitter have come out to blast referee Paul Tierney and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for not sending off Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, after the ''reckless challenge,'' with one user comparing Ederson's punch to that of heavyweight boxers Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.

Champions League: Pique chooses better player between Messi, Maradona
February 25, 2020
Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique, has said Lionel Messi is a better player than Diego Maradona, because of his consistency.
The two footballers have often been compared to one another, having both played for Barcelona and Argentina.
However, Pique feels Messi’s performances at the top level, sets him apart from Maradona.
“Maradona was a unique player in the history of football, he went through Barca and Napoli, he will be remembered forever.
“But if you ask me to choose between Leo or Diego, I would say Messi because of his consistency and the magic he produces on a daily basis,” Pique told a press conference on Monday.
Barca travel to Napoli in the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday.

Wilder reveals why he lost to Fury, activates rematch clause
February 25, 2020
Dethroned WBC champion, Deontay Wilder, has incredibly claimed the costume he wore for his ring walk, played a big part in his defeat to Tyson Fury on Sunday morning.
The American also confirmed he will be triggering his rematch clause.
Wilder wore a black and red armoured body suit with a matching mask and crown before the fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
He has now claimed his defeat was because of the 45-pound costume weakening his legs.
He told Yahoo: “He didn’t hurt me at all, but the simple fact is that my uniform was way too heavy for me.
“I didn’t have no legs from the beginning of the fight. In the third round, my legs were just shot all the way through.”
Wilder also confirmed that he will exercise his right for a third fight, which will happen in the summer.
“The rematch is definitely going to happen. We’re going to get it on. I want to get right back to it,” he told The Athletic.

Samson Siasia hopeful of raising N36.4m CAS fee to appeal FIFA lifetime ban before March 19
Embattled Nigerian coach, Samson Siasia, has revealed he is hopeful of raising the N36.4m (100,000 Swiss Francs) appeal fee demanded by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) before the March 19 deadline set by the court to hear his case.
To the shock of Nigerians, Samson Siasia, one of Nigeria's most decorated coaches, was fined $50,000 and banned for life from all football activities by football's governing body, FIFA, last year over allegations of complicity in match fixing..
Siasia, ever since the ban, has denied being involved in match fixing and swiftly headed for the Court of Arbitration for Sports, CAS, in Lausanne, Switzerland, confident he could prove his innocence and get the FIFA ban reversed, but he'll have to pay 100, 000 Swiss Francs (about N36.4m) appeal fee before his appeal could be entertained by the apex court of Sports.
Siasia was given until October 10, 2019 to make the payment or forget his appeal, but used his legal team to persuade CAS to give him a 5 month grace period to raise the appeal fee.
Asked about the allegations of his involvement in a match fixing, Siasia said;
“That’s not correct. Nigerians know me too well. How can I get involved in match fixing, knowingly or not? ,” he said to CompleteSportsNigeria.
“What happened was that I was discussing with an agent over a job offer in an undisclosed Australian club. The job did not eventually come through anyway.
“But I was made to understand later that the man had previously been associated with match fixing.
“Mine was just an honest discussion for job offer which never came through in the end.”
Speaking about how he intends to raise the fund, the Bayelsa born tactician said;
“At the moment, not much has really come in. But I’m confident that before this month (February) ends, individuals and corporate bodies who want to render financial assistance would be able to respond positively,”
“There are promises here and there. And, of course, you know the situation in the country at the moment. But I still remain optimistic, given their words of promises that at most, by this February ending, I should be able to get enough financial assistance to sort things out”.
“My lawyers made a strong appeal to CAS and now the case has been moved to March 19, 2020”,
“They are very strict this time around, but I’m confident we will meet the financial demands before then.”

February 27, 2020

[url=https://thenationonlineng.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Maria-Sharapova.jpg]
Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova is “saying goodbye” to tennis at the age of 32.
In an article written for Vogue and Vanity Fair, Sharapova said her body “had become a distraction” after a struggle with shoulder injuries.
The Russian won her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon in 2004 aged 17 and completed the career slam – all four major titles – by winning the French Open in 2012.
In 2016, she served a 15-month ban after testing positive for meldonium. After returning from her ban in 2017, Sharapova struggled to recapture her best form and suffered from a number of injuries.
She has dropped to 373 in the world, her lowest ranking since August 2002, and has lost in the first round of her past three Grand Slam tournaments.

Lyon vs Juventus: Ramsey makes demands from Sarri’s men after Champions League defeat
February 27, 2020
Juventus midfielder, Aaron Ramsey, has called on his teammates to focus on themselves and work hard following their 1-0 defeat to Lyon in the Champions League round of 16 first leg encounter on Wednesday night.
He also wants Juventus to improve on their performances going forward.
Lyon defeated Maurizio Sarri’s men in France, thanks to a lone goal from Lucas Tousart to give the French Ligue 1 side a narrow win over the Serie A champions.
Speaking after the match, Ramsey was quoted by Juventus’ official website as saying: “We knew it was going to be difficult against Lyon, but we did not play the game we wanted.
“We have much work to do, but I am confident because we are a united group.
“This is only the first half, and now we work hard. Let’s focus on ourselves and do better than we did today: starting on Sunday with Inter.
“For the return leg, we want to secure a result in front of the fans.”
Juventus will host Lyon in the second leg in Turin next month.

Champions League: Bonucci, Szczesny apportion blame for Juventus’ 1-0 defeat to Lyon
February 27, 2020
Juventus captain, Leonardo Bonucci has blamed the team for their 1-0 loss to Lyon in the Champions League round of 16 first leg in France on Wednesday.
A lone strike from Lucas Tousart gave the home side a narrow win over the Italian champions heading into the second leg in Turin.
Bonucci admitted that they made some mistakes in the first half that led to the defeat, but vowed that Juventus must progress to the quarter finals.
“We made a mistake in the first half… We were always second, played long and we were distant between the departments and not very aggressive. And in certain games you pay for it,” he was quoted by the club’s official website.
“They were good at hurting us when we were down to ten men, but we had to wake up first. Now we think about winning on Sunday, and then in the return leg: we must absolutely progress through.”
Similarly, Juventus goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny blamed the loss to first half mistakes committed by his teammates.
He also believes the Italian champions would turn things around in Turin.
“We made a mistake in the first half, playing with little order,” he said.
“We were better in the second half, but now we have to overturn everything in the return leg, starting from the good things done in the second half of this match.”
Lyon scored the goal when Juve defender De Ligt was out receiving treatment for a head injury and Szczesny added, “The goal? Being a man down made the difference, but the action had to be stopped earlier.”

Champions League: Guardiola reveals why Man City beat Real Madrid 2-1, speaks on Zidane’s next move
February 27, 2020
Pep Guardiola has expressed delight over Manchester City’s 2-1 Champions League first-leg victory over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
However, Guardiola warned that Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane will be scrutinising his [Guardiola] tactics ahead of the second leg, adding that the LaLiga giants have a history for comebacks.
The Spaniard delivered a surprise last night, with both his choice of players for the game and tactics.
He decided to have Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero on the bench and switched Gabriel Jesus to the left flank while Kevin De Bruyne played as a false nine.
His tactics paid off with Jesus and De Bruyne scoring for City to make Isco’s opener insignificant.
“I’m happy for the victory of course but for the performance as well,” Guardiola told reporters after the game.
“We tried to play against this team in quite good personality. They started really well and for the first 10-15 minutes we could not take the ball.
“We were not able to make the sequences of 10-15 passes in a row. After 15 minutes, we played really good.
“When we were playing better we concede a goal which we should not concede at this level but sometimes we do these kind of things.
“When Madrid were playing better we scored a goal and after that found our rhythm and we scored a second one.”
Guardiola said though he is happy with the win, the game is not over because “If there’s one team in the world that can overcome everything, it is this club for its experience, its history.”
He, however, assured that hopefully, Man City will perform better in the second leg and progress to the quarterfinals.
He added, “I’m pretty sure Zidane and his people are going to look at what we have done and the second game will be different, we’ll have to be cautious and be alert to what he’s trying to do, adapt quick and try to go there to win the game.”

Champions League: Casemiro, Vinicius Jr. reveals who to blame for Real Madrid 2-1 defeat to Man City
February 27, 2020
Real Madrid’s Brazilian pair, Casemiro and Vinicius Jr have blamed themselves and their teammates for their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16 first leg at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
A fine header from Gabriel Jesus and a spot kick well taken by Kevin De Bruyne cancelled out Isco’s strike for the home side.
Pep Guardiola’s side now go into the second leg at home with a huge away goal advantage.
Vinicius said Real Madrid players lacked focus in the final 15-minute of the game that cost them dearly.
He, however, expressed optimism that the former champions will beat City in England and book a quarterfinal berth.
Casemiro also said the game is not over, adding that his side is used to such situations where they have to fight to go through.
Casemiro added, “The tie is not over, because if there is a team that can stage a comeback, it’s this Real Madrid side. We played 75 spectacular minutes, but in the last 15 things went wrong.”
“They got the better of us, but everything is not lost.”
He also noted that they did not have the intensity or the control in the game in the last 15 minutes.
“We sat back, against a top rival if you let them have a couple of shots, they’ll get a goal. There are no excuses for that,” the midfielder told the press
“We’ll pull off the comeback,” Vinicius told the press after the game.
“We’ve got to keep cool, we’re going to win there and pull off the comeback.
“We lacked focus in that final 15-minute period and that’s why they got two goals.”
