EPL: England star names Nigerian midfielder as best in Premier League

Leicester City midfielder, James Maddison, has spoken highly of his Leicester City Nigerian teammate in the midfield.

23-year-old Maddison is the oldest of Leicester City’s regular midfield starters, the England playmaker joined by 22-year-olds Wilfred Ndidi and Youri Tielemans in a trio envied by much of the Premier League.

While Maddison and Tielemans show excellent performance in the attacking third, Ndidi mops up behind.
Maddison hailed Ndidi as the best in the Premier League at what he does and the stats back that up.

The Nigerian is leading the league for tackles, having finished top of the ball recoveries chart in each of the previous two seasons.

“I think he [Ndidi] is the best in the Premier League at tackling and winning the ball back, bar none,” Maddison told Football Daily.

Super Eagles and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was named the Absa Premiership’s Player of the Months of September and October yesterday.

Chiefs’ Ernst Middendorp won the Coach of the Month award.

The awards were announced in a press conference at the offices of the Premier Soccer League in Parktown.
A delighted Akpeyi, who has kept four clean sheets in five matches, admitted after scooping the award that the honours came as a surprise to him.

“This comes as a big surprise to me but it also shows the importance of putting effort in whatever you do,” Akpeyi said.

“I give credit to the technical team that has been patient with me. I am settling in, I am taking each game as it comes. Khune is a good keeper, I am just grateful for the opportunity from the coach.

“It is healthy competition in that department. I am just happy to be improving all the time,” Akpeyi added.

League leaders Chiefs lost their only league game of the season 1-0 against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium at the beginning of September.

They then won four games in a row until the end of November – beating AmaZulu 2-0 at King Zwelithini Stadium‚ Baroka FC 1-0 at FNB‚ Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-0 at FNB and Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 at Loftus Versfeld.

Frank Lampard has revealed that Chelsea will be without Tammy Abraham for a derby date with West Ham as the England striker is still in some considerable pain.

The Blues saw their in-form striker forced from the field during a Champions League clash with Valencia.

A blow to the hip left Abraham in agony and facing up to a spell on the sidelines.

He was quick to play down the severity of the knock after sitting out the second-half of a 2-2 draw at Mestalla, but will not be ready for Premier League duty on Saturday.

Lampard told reporters when asked for a fitness update on the 22-year-old: “We will know by the end of the weekend, he won’t be available for tomorrow. There’s lot of pain.

“We will see by Monday. It is a squad game, the lads have been training well and when opportunities come they are ready.”

We can no longer stay silent': All 20 Italian Serie A clubs come together to write an open letter against racism

In a bid to stamp out racism from Italian football, all 20 Italian Serie A League teams have come out to write an open letter to fans, stating racism is a deep rooted problem that must be stamped out of Italian football if the sport is to grow .

Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku, Brescia's Mario Balotelli, Napoli's Koulibali and former Juventus player Moise Kean are among the elite group of black football players that have suffered racist chants and abuses in the past.

Even Massimo Cellino, the owner of Brescia FC, where Balotelli plays for, racially abused his own player when he made a statement suggesting Balotelli's performance is as a result of his skin colour.

'He's black, what can I say, he's working on clearing himself but he's having a lot of difficulty,' Cellino said.

This incident and much more has led the management of the 20 Serie A clubs to take action by writing the open letter.

The letter, whose creation was driven by AC Milan, is addressed to 'all those who love Italian football,' and says 'we have to publicly recognise that we have a serious problem with racism.'

The letter reads;
'An open letter to all those who love Italian football
We have to publicly recognise that we have a serious problem with racism.

It’s a problem that we have not done enough to combat over the years.
Images of players being racially abused in Italian football have been viewed and discussed all around the world this season and that shames us all.
No individual should ever be subjected to racist abuse – inside or outside of football – and we can no longer stay silent on this issue or wait for it to magically disappear.
Driven by the clubs, positive conversations have been held in recent weeks with Lega Serie A, FIGC and international experts on how to tackle and eradicate this issue from the game.
We, the undersigned clubs, are united by our desire for serious change and Lega Serie A has stated its intention to lead the way by delivering a comprehensive and robust Serie A anti-racism policy, stricter new laws and regulations and a plan for educating those within the game about the scourge of racism.
We don’t have any more time to waste.
We must now act with speed, with purpose and with unity and we call on you, the fans, to support us in this vitally important endeavour.
Yours sincerely,
Atalanta, Bologna, Brescia, Cagliari, Fiorentina, Genoa, Hellas Verona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Lazio, Lecce, AC Milan, Napoli, Parma, AS Roma, Sampdoria, Sassuolo, SPAL, Torino, Udinese

 November 30, 2019

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho, has said he cannot wait to play Arsenal, following the club’s decision to sack Unai Emery.
Mourinho was confirmed as Spurs new boss last week, taking over from Mauricio Pochettino.

The Portuguese is now relishing the chance to compete in the North London derby, when Tottenham host Arsenal in April.
“I look forward to playing against Arsenal. I want to play against Arsenal. I know what it means for our fans.
“But with Mauricio or Emery or Freddie Ljungberg or whoever else, that’s no problem.

“I know the big ones and I know that’s a big one. Not just because Arsenal is a big club that fights for the same objectives as we do. But also I know the meaning. And I like it,” Mourinho told a press conference on Friday

Man Utd vs Aston Villa: Solskjaer speaks on setting goals target for Rashford, Martial

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has insisted he will not set any goal targets for his forwards.
Solskjaer, a supreme finisher for the Reds during his playing days, explained that it added pressure to the players.
The Norwegian sanctioned Romelu Lukaku’s move to Inter Milan and will be looking to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for goals this season
However, he told reporters ahead of Sunday’s home fixture against Aston Villa: “I won’t be setting goal targets for Marcus, Anthony or any of my players because it’s counter-productive.

“The only thing I demand from my forwards is that they do all the things we work on in training to give themselves the best chance of scoring.

“That means getting into good positions, keeping yourself moving and concentrating on finding the best shot or header possible.
“That philosophy stood me in good stead when I was a player.

“Some of the other lads I played with set themselves targets at the start of each season — and it worked for them.
“But I always wondered why strikers would give themselves one thing extra to worry about.

“I never set myself targets in terms of goals because, no matter how many times I hit the back of the net, I always wondered where my next goal was going to come from.

“I always felt that setting players certain targets put them under a level of extra pressure they don’t need.
“If you score a goal, that’s great. Then you focus on scoring the next one.”

Quique Sanchez Flores becomes the 3rd manager to depart the Premier League as Watford fires him

Quique Sanchez Flores has been sacked as Watford manager, just 85 days after he was re-appointed for a second spell by the Premier League club.

The Spaniard, who replaced countryman Javi Gracia won just one of his 10 Premier League matches for the club.

The decision to sack came after Watford suffered their eighth league defeat in a 2-1 loss against Southampton on Saturday, which saw them remain bottom of the table on eight points.

In a statement posted to the club's website this afternoon, Watford chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury said: 'Quique is a man of great integrity and it was clear how much he wanted to have a positive impact, but ultimately results have dictated our decision'

'The appointment of a new Head Coach is imminent, and with nearly two-thirds of the season remaining, we will provide all the support necessary to make the coming months successful.'

Quique Sanchez Flores is now the third manager to depart the Premier League in the last month after Unai Emery and Mauricio Pochettino were sacked by Arsenal and Tottenham.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored a 94th minute winner as Leicester defeated Everton 2-1 at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, MySportDab reports.

Iheanacho got on the end of a delightful Pereira throughball and dispatches it with venom at the far corner.

After a lengthy VAR review in which the initial decision on the pitch was offside, the review overturns it and deems that Mina’s knee kept the striker onside! 2-1 Leicester! Incredible scenes!

Today's match was Iheanacho's first appearance in the Premier League so far this season.

Caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg says Arsenal can still '100 % make top four' after Arsenal suffer disappointing 2-2 draw with Norwich

On Sunday, Arsenal suffered another disheartening draw away at Norwich which would have even been a loss for Arsenal if VAR(video assistant referee) hadn't stepped in to re-award another penalty to Arsenal after the first one was caught by the keeper.

Two goals from Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rescued a point for Arsenal at Carrow Road after Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell edged Norwich ahead twice and the result followed the dismissal of Unai Emery on Friday, with interim manager Ljungberg taking charge.

Despite this being Arsenal's worst start to a league campaign since 1975, Ljungberg still believes Arsenal can make the top four.

Ljungberg said to reporters after the game: ‘100 per cent [Arsenal can still make the top four]. Teams drop points here and there, they drop points, we drop points, Spurs, it’s a bit of a crazy league and of course I hope and think that Arsenal can get back to the top four.’
‘I hope the club - I’ve been there for a long time - know what I can do and what I can’t do. I’m looking forward day by day and being very honoured that they’ve trusted me to do this, trying to help the players as much as I can and that’s how I see it.’

Arsenal have a long list of potential candidates to become permanent managers of the club including Brendan Rodgers, Mikel Arteta, Patrick Vieira, Max Allegri, Nuno Espirito Santo, Mauricio Pochettino and Carlo Ancelotti .

The Epl Table after today's matches: Manchester United draw 2-2 with resilient Aston Villa; Iheanacho secures dramatic victory for Leicester

With 24 games to go in the English premier league season, here is what the table looks like after Sunday's round of matches.

Kelechi Iheanacho the saviour for Leicester City as they come from 0-1 to beat Everton 2-1 .

Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho was the unlikely hero for Leicester City as he came from the bench to score a 94th minute winner for Leicester city as they  beat Everton 2-1 at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

Leicester City started the match with basically the team they have played all epl matches with this season, with Johnny Evans anchoring the defence, Nigeria's Wilfred Ndidi manning the midfield while Jamie Vardy stood upfront for Leicester City.

Everton, desperate to improve results and keep the job of it's manager Marco Silva safe, stared with a 3-4-3 formation with Richarlison as the striker and Nigeria's Alex Iwobi manning the wings.
Richarlison scored an early header in the first half for Everton, and Everton's defensive line made it hard for Leicester to break through.

But Iheanacho who has lacked playing time in the premier league thing season, was brought up from the bench in the second half to set up Jamie Vardy to equalize.

Then with seconds to end the match, Iheanacho scored a last-gap winner that was initially ruled out for offside before VAR overturned the decision.

The defeat leaves Everton just above the relation zone while Leicester city are now just 8 points below premier league leaders, Liverpool.

Solksjaer on the brink of sack after disappointing Manchester United share the spoils in 2-2 draw with resilient Aston Villa

Victor Lindelof and T.Heaton's own goal, were not enough for Manchester United, as they laboured to a 2-2 draw with one of the premier League's most resilient teams, Aston Villa.

Aston Villa opened the scoring through Jack Grealish in the 11th minute despite Man U's preferred defensive partnership Maguire and Lindelof anchoring the defense.
An own goal from an Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton after a header from Marcus Rashford, equalized the game for Man U to make it 1-1..

Not too long after, Victor Lindelof made it 2-1 for Manchester United in the second half and two minutes later, Tyrone Mings’s put in a volley, to make it 2-2.

This result was no less than Villa deserved on an afternoon when United looked lethargic, redundant and ponderous on the ball.

United have won just four of 14 Premier League games this term and have taken just 10 points from the last 27 on offer and, mid-week Solksjaer will face the man he replaced at Man utd, Jose Mourinho before a trip to champions, Manchester City in the Manchester derby to follow three days later.

EPL: Former Chelsea star reveals Solskjaer’s replacement at Man United

 December 2, 2019

[Image: ole-gunnar-solskjaer-cropped_a8jd73az6yf...1gu73b.jpg]

Former Chelsea star, Craig Burley, has advised Manchester United to sack their manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and replace him with former Tottenham Hotspur coach, Mauricio Pochettino.
Burley said this after Man United played a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

The result against Aston Villa means Solskjaer’s men are now in ninth position on the Premier League table with 18 points after 14 games.

“The longer Man United sit on their hands and say ‘no, we’re going to do it this way, we’re quite happy, we’ve got transfer windows coming up, the managers out there that are free – Pochettino, Allegri, they’re going to waltz into other big jobs,” Burley told ESPN.
“I think United should go out and get something on paper, an agreement, with Pochettino.

“There are lots of deficiencies at Manchester United.
“You’ve got the chief executive, the ownership, the football department, the playing staff, and the manager.
“It’s a good job he had that new manager bounce when he first came in.

“He’s got that new manager bounce, otherwise that [win percentage] would be closer to 10 per-cent.”

EPL: Brendan Rodgers confirms escape clause amid Arsenal speculation

 December 2, 2019

Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, has admitted there is a clause in his contract, that could allow him to join Arsenal.
Rodgers has been linked with the role at the Emirates, after Unai Emery was fired on Friday.

The former Liverpool manager has transformed Leicester into title contenders this season and victory against Everton on Sunday, extended their winning run in the Premier League to six games.
They are currently in second place behind Liverpool.
It has been speculated that there’s a £14million exit clause in Rodgers’ contract, should any club want to poach the ex-Celtic boss. And Rodgers confirmed such a clause is in place.

“There probably is in most manager’s contracts,” Rodgers told reporters at Goodison Park.
“It’s all hypothetical, all these types of situations.

“I think for me in this moment we’ve had a brilliant win today, we came back really, really well. My focus is very much with Leicester.

“I made a change eight or nine months ago, I came into here and I’ve been so happy since I’ve come into here and I’ve been so happy to come into here to work with the players, we still have a lot of work to do.
“So like I said, most manager’s contracts will have something in that but my only concentration is Leicester.
“I’ve been very fortunate in my career to work with some brilliant clubs and some great institutions. This was an ambition to come to here and to help the club arrive in the top six.

“For us, everything has been great since we worked together. We know there will be some bumps along the way. For me, my ambition at this very moment in time is to help this club.
“I’m very happy in doing that, there’s great, great potential here at Leicester City in order to push on in the next few years.”
