Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho has had a successful operation on his knee following a nasty injury he suffered during international duty.

The 21-year-old who plays for Omonia, on loan from Deportivo de La Coruña in Spain damaged knee ligaments while playing in a friendly match for Nigeria against Brazil in Singapore last month.

Following the success of the operation on his kneel, Uzoho shared a photo of himself in the hospital and wrote: 'And it was a success, I’m grateful to Every Prayer and Good wishes Said, Even the hidden Prayers said on My Behalf... I’m deeply grateful.. Now let the Healing Begin IN CHRIST ALONE.'

Gernot Rohr promises to win the 2021 AFCON title with Nigeria

Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has stated that his goal with the Nigerian national football team is to win the upcoming African Nations Cup in 2021.

Rohr, who guided the Super Eagles to victory against  Benin on Wednesday is out of contract in June 2020 but says his plan is to lead Nigeria to the summit of the African tournament rather than just qualify for it.

Nigeria face Lesotho in it's second match of AFCON 2021 qualifying this weekend and hope to make it a second win during this international football window.

The Franco-German coach who once played for Bayern Munich led Nigeria to a second-round exit in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and a third-place finish in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

Speaking on his future plans, Rohr said;

“It will be exciting for me to win the 2021 AFCON title with Nigeria. That’s my desire, and I will be the most excited.”

“So winning against Benin is just the beginning. I can’t be excited until we win the title in 2021.”

Reminiscing on the Super Eagles win over Benin, Rohr said to reporters; “The Super Eagles had a lot of scoring opportunities, but they failed to convert all of them.”

“In the second half, we played a very good match, ‘one-touch two-touch’, and we have good wingers. We had a lot of opportunities, and with the changes we made, we did very well. It is good for us.”

'£20,000 for being late to training': See full list of fines for breaking club rules imposed by Chelsea coach Frank Lampard

Chelsea football club, after suffering damaging loses at the beginning of the season to Manchester United and Liverpool have been on a roller coaster ride, winning their last 6 games in the English Premier league, which has left the club sitting third in the EPL standings.

Fans from the outside watching Chelsea play might feel the good results are due to Lampard's tactics and training, which might be true, but new details emerging from Chelsea's Cobhams training headquarters indicate that head coach Frank Lampard has set new rules with mind blowing fines attached to them, which has helped keep his players very disciplined.

A list of the heavy fines for breaching club rules and regulations has emerged. and it contains12 fine-worthy infringements such as £500 for every minute that you are late for a team meeting, and a hefty £20,000 for being late to training..
In addition, it is stated that all fines must be paid within two weeks of being issued, after which they will be doubled.

See the full list of rules and fines below, and tell us if you think it's excessive or it's the right move by Frank Lampard.

Messi scores as Argentina beat Brazil

 November 15, 2019

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi on Friday evening scored 13 minutes into his return for the Albiceleste against Brazil in an international friendly encounter in Saudia Arabia.

Messi, who has not featured for Argentina since he was sent off in the third-place game against Chile at the 2019 Copa America in July, saw his penalty kick from 12 yards saved by Liverpool goalkeeper, Becker Alisson.
The 32-year-old, however, reacted quickest to tuck away the rebound and give his team a 1-0 lead.

Brazil had a penalty of their own before Messi’s opener when German Pezzella fouls Man City’s Gabriel Jesus inside the box after nine minutes.

Jesus stepped up to take it but missed his spot kick as the ball rolled harmlessly wide of goal.

The match eventually ended 1-0 after full-time in favour of Argentina.

EPL: Four key players to miss Man Ci’sty clash against Chelsea

 November 16, 2019

[Image: manchester-city-team-players-wolves-2017.jpg]

Manchester City will be without four key players: Bernado Silva, Leroy Sane, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Aymeric Laporte when they face a high flying Chelsea side after the international break.
Manchester City’s first game following the November international break is a big one against Frank Lampard’s side.

The reigning Premier League champions Manchester City face the Blues at the Eithad Stadium and Chelsea can move four points clear of Pep Guardiola’s side with victory in the day’s late kick-off.

City boss, Pep Guardiola has somewhat of a selection dilemma on his hands ahead of the game.
Silva is to serve a one-game suspension in relation to social media message about teammate Benjamin Mendy.

Silva was charged by the Football Association last month after he compared Mendy to the character on a packet of Conguitos – a sweet brand available in Spain and Portugal.

He has also been fined £50,000 for the tweet and will only sit out the clash against Lampard’s side.

A statement via the FA’s official website reads, “Bernardo Silva has been suspended for one first team competitive fixture, fined £50,000 and must complete face-to-face education after admitting a breach of FA Rule E3.

“The Manchester City midfielder’s social media activity on 22 September 2019 breached FA Rule E3(1), as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, and constituted an “Aggravated Breach”, which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included reference, whether expressed or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin.”

Sane suffered a serious knee injury in the Community Shield win over Liverpool back in August and is not expected to play again this year.
The same goes for defender Laporte while Zinchenko could return later in the year.

AFCON Qualifiers: Vincent Enyeama Joins Super Eagles In Training

He has not played for the country since 2015, but Enyeama paid the Super Eagles a surprise visit at their training ground on Thursday.

The Super Eagles are gearing up for the AFCON 2021 qualifier clash against Lesotho after beating Benin in their opening Group L encounter on Wednesday.

The team was put through a light training on Thursday at the Le Meriden Hotel in Akwa Ibom. However, it was not a normal training day as former Super Eagles captain was seen with the goalkeepers in camp.

The former Lille goalkeeper last played for the National team in 2015 but was in high spirits with other goalkeepers on Thursday.

It is yet to be known if Enyeama was just in town to pay the team a visit or he is training with the team to keep fit after being released by Lille.

Nevertheless, it’s good to see the 37-year-old back in the National team set up once again. Soccernet.ng will provide updates as things unfold in Super Eagles camp.

Chelsea’s Hudson-Odoi in shocking move to Real Madrid

 November 17, 2019

Chelsea forward, Callum Hudson-Odoi could leave Stamford Bridge to join Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid next summer.
DAILY POST had reported that Hudson-Odoi refused to sign a new five-year deal with the club last December and almost left for Bayern Munich last January this year.

The player also said that he will sign his new contract with the club on the condition that the Blues will give him assurances of playing time.
However, El Desmarque is now reporting that Real Madrid have joined the race to sign Hudson-Odoi at the end of this season in a bid to bolster their attack line.

The newspaper reports that the Los Blancos president, Florentino Perez is closely monitoring the 19-year-old, as well as several other youngsters, Everton’s Moise Kean, Villarreal’s Samuel Chukweze and RB Salzburg’s Erling Braut Haaland.

Ballon D’Or: Casillas snubs Messi, Ronaldo, reveals player who should win award

 November 17, 2019

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, has said neither his former team mate, Cristiano Ronaldo or Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, deserve to win this year’s Ballon D’Or prize.
Casillas, instead has chosen Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk, as the best man for the award.

Messi recently picked up the FIFA Best award, while Van Dijk took the UEFA Player of the Year gong.
They are both considered to be the frontrunners for the Ballon d’Or, but Casillas told talkSPORT: “For me, the winner is obvious: Virgil van Dijk.
“I believe that because of the massive impact he’s had on Liverpool Football Club.

“Obviously, you’re dealing with the best players in the world and when you look at Lionel Messi’s goalscoring record, if he did win it over Van Dijk, you would have to understand why.
“But his form didn’t help Barcelona win the Champions League. Usually (nine out of the last 12 years) the winner of the Ballon d’Or comes from the winner of the Champions League. The criteria is there and I don’t see why that should change.
“In terms of a defender winning it, there are some people who would say it’s easier to destroy than create and I understand that philosophy. But when you look at the impact on others and the way he gets others to perform around him, that’s a wonderful quality.”

Lesotho vs Nigeria: 3 things we learnt as Super Eagles win in Maseru
[Image: aa2c2e28f470cea3c2fa8d321ca746e8?s=46&d=mm&r=g]

 November 17, 2019

Nigeria are on course to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, following a 4-2 win over Lesotho on Sunday.
The Super Eagles had defeated Benin Republic four days ago in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.

What are the 3 things we learnt from this victory in Maseru?
1. Group L should be an easy ride: The early signs say Nigeria should actually win all the home and away games. However, before we get excited, there are four fixtures left, with the double header against Sierra Leone. But you can put your money on Nigeria being at AFCON 2021.
2. Osimhen, man on fire: Victor Osimhen brought his form in Europe to Maseru. The Lille striker put in a virtuoso performance today, contributing to the first two goals, before netting a brace himself. Easily the man of the match, Gernot Rohr would be delighted that he has not waited for an age, to get Odion Ighalo’s replacement.

3. Much better performance: Overall, it was a much improved performance from the Eagles. Against Benin, they were good in parts. But Rohr’s men were a different prospect entirely, after conceding the early goal, as they steamrolled their hosts into submission

Thierry Henry officially unveiled as new coach of Montreal Impact (Photos)

Thierry Henry has officially been unveiled as the new coach of MLS side Montreal Impact after he penned a two-year contract with the American football club.

This is the second opportunity for 42-year-old Arsenal legend who was dismissed in January by Monaco after a disastrous run for the club.

Out of the 20 games for Monaco, Henry managed to win just four games, with his side losing 11 and sitting in the 19th spot in Ligue 1.

Henry held his first press conference  today (Nov.18) and said he confident he can recover from his sacking at Monaco.

At his press conference, the Frenchman said: ‘You have to start somewhere. That’s how you acquire experience. For me, it came with Belgium and Monaco, where I learned a lot about myself.
'It’s about fighting. This isn’t just my story but the story of everyone in life. Everyone falls. It's about how you get up.'

‘It didn’t work out in Monaco (as a coach). I can give you a lot of excuses but at the end of the day it didn’t work out and I am here as a coach of Montreal.
'I learned a lot there. The only mistake you can make is not learning from what happened. You have to confront it.'

When questioned about the likelihood of bringing success to the club,, he added: ‘The face of a team is often a reflection of the coach, but I want the community, the players to feel what's going on in this city. Finance is not a problem. In this league, winning teams do not always have money.'

Ballon D’ Or 2019: Mikel names player that can win award

 November 18, 2019

Former Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi has named Liverpool ace, Sadio Mane as the player that can win this year’s Ballon D’ Or.
DAILY POST had reported that Mane is among the 30-man shortlist for this year’s Europe top individual prize alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo and others.

“Mane can win the Golden Ball [Ballon D’ Or], but I think Messi is still on a very different level,” the former Super Eagles captain told beIN SPORTS.
Mikel also revealed why he joined Trabzonspor after his contract expired with Middlesbrough last summer.
He added: “I chose this place to have a share in Trabzonspor’s successes.

“Trabzonspor’s love for football and the team is indescribable. Onazi and Nwakaeme gave me up-to-date information after I got here.
“The aggression in the Super League is very different from the Premier League. This is a league you have to keep up with.”
Mikel won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, English Premier League twice and three FA Cups during his 11 years at Chelsea before he joined Tianjin TEDA in 2017.

Former Chelsea captain, John Terry, blocked the West London club from signing Manchester City star, Sergio Aguero.
According to The Athletic, Terry advised Chelsea against signing Aguero when the Blues were working on a deal to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge two years before he joined Man City in 2011 from Atletico Madrid.
The newspaper reports that the ex-defender was not a huge fan of the Argentina international having played against him twice in the UEFA Champions League.
Terry also suggested that Chelsea’s hierarchy should sign striker, David Villa from Valencia at the time ahead of Aguero.
Aguero has been impressive for Man City since his move to Etihad from Atletico.
He has scored 173 goals for Pep Guardiola’s side and helped them to win four Premier League titles.

EPL: Kovacic speaks on how Lampard deals with Chelsea players

 November 19, 2019

Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic, has said Frank Lampard is the “perfect teacher” for the young players at the club.
Lampard replaced Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge in the summer and has already made a big impact.

The Blues are currently third in the Premier League, following a shaky start to the campaign.
Kovacic has hailed Lampard as a “great guy”, who enjoys laughing and joking with the Chelsea squad and insists his team-mates are enjoying playing under the legendary midfielder.
“It’s been nice, nice of course. Now I see why he was such a great player.

“His mentality is really strong. That’s what he wants to bring to us: to have a strong mentality, a winning mentality. He always won a lot of trophies.
“He has a great connection with every player. He is a great guy, he likes to joke, he likes to laugh. He’s the perfect teacher for us.
“We need to learn from him, and for now we are enjoying it, he is as well enjoying it, so it’s a nice connection.

“Now the moment is good, when the tough moments come it will be a test for us and for him, but we need to keep training as we are doing.
“We are working really hard. Four months he has been here, and every training was hard, and that’s important being at such a great club like Chelsea,” Kovacic told the official website.

PSG owners close to buying English club

The investment company that owns Paris Saint-Germain, Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), are getting closer to a takeover of English second division club Leeds United, ESPN reports.
It is understood that discussions between both camps, have been going on for a while now.

Two other potential buyers are in talks with Leeds, but QSI have an advantage, because of a relationship with owner Andrea Radrizzani.
Radrizzani and the PSG and QSI president, Nasser al-Khelaifi, have been very close friends for years.
Some of the reasons behind the delay over the takeover, include uncertainty over Brexit, the current difficult situation at beIN Sport and for Qatar diplomatically in general.

Radrizzani paid €45m for full control of Leeds in May 2017.

Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr: Evander Holyfield predicts winner of rematch

[Image: 5E52B5EB-4109-482B-924C-5E2120091F13.jpeg]

Former heavyweight champion, Evander Holyfield, has backed Mexican-American fighter, Andy Ruiz Jr to beat British fighter, Anthony Joshua in their heavyweight rematch.
Ruiz stunned the boxing world when he knocked Joshua down four times before stopping him in the seventh round of their heavyweight world title fight in June.

The 30-year-old will put his three belts back on the line in the rematch when the rivals clash in the desert of Saudi Arabia on December 7.
Speaking to World Boxing News, Holyfield said: “Andy Ruiz Jr. really can fight. He has fast hands and can really hit hard. But nobody seem to know it.
“Everyone is thinking it’s a fluke (that he beat Anthony Joshua the first time), but the guy showed he can get up from being knocked down. He got took down and got back up to win.”

Holyfield added: “You look at Ruiz and he doesn’t look like he can fight at all. Nothing tells you he can fight, but he can fight.
“I knew that he could fight because I sparred with him. At the time, I was 46 and he was 19. I couldn’t believe a 19-year-old could be that good and so aggressive, he would chase me down.
“I’m like, ‘I’m the heavyweight champion of the world, who’s he trying to chase down?’ It was just amazing the confidence that he had and the persistence to cut the ring down even in sparring.

“So, I know that persistently, he will fight that same fight that he fought last time. If he’s (Joshua) not ready to have someone in his face in the whole fight, then it could end up the same way again.”
