Super Eagles Midfielder Ndidi To Join Manchester United

Ndidi’s consistent performances have seen him linked with a number of high profile moves this summer, with the likes of Man-U, Arsenal, and Liverpool all reportedly interested in his services.

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi says he is ‘flattered’ by the transfer speculation linking him with a summer move to top English Premiership club Manchester United.

Ndidi’s consistent performances have seen him linked with a number of high profile moves this summer, with the likes of Man-U, Arsenal, and Liverpool all reportedly interested in his services.

The 22-year-old’s has been linked with a move away from Leicester in the coming weeks following a sensational season at the King Power Stadium.

The Nigerian star was an ever-present for Leicester in the Premier League during the previous campaign with his combative midfield performances drawing plenty of praise from supporters and pundits alike.

“I am flattered when hearing such a thing,” Ndidi told Goal.com.

“I am focusing on AFCON with Nigeria now, and then pre-season with Leicester City. We have a great manager with the ambition to compete with big clubs in the Premier League.”

Real Madrid Unveils Rodrygo Goes

After the signings of Eder Militao from FC Porto, Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt, Eden Hazard from Chelsea and Ferland Mendy from Olympique Lyonnais, Real Madrid unveiled yet another player as they set to take Europe by storm.

Los Blancos unveiled yet another Brazilian youth international, Rodrygo Goes on Tuesday following the arrival – and subsequent first-team nailing performances – of Vinicius Junior last summer.

Madrid paid Santos, the home of Pelé and Neymar among other Brazil greats, 45 million euros for the 18-year-old, who will hope to have a similar impact on the club as his compatriot when he is handed his chance by Zinedine Zidane.

Rodrygo joined Santos at 11-years-old, making his debut at 16, with Real Madrid almost immediately being alerted to his talent by his agent Arcuri.

Donnerby praises gallant Falcons as analysts condemn harsh VAR rules

[Image: D9URt7bXUAETuj9.jpg]Super Falcons. Photo/Twitter/Rasheedat08

The gallant falcons played their best game of the on-going FIFA Women World Cup in France, but at the end, the Super Falcons, reduced to 10 players in the second half, succumbed to the hosts via a debatable penalty kick on Monday.
France’s reputation suggested they would take Nigeria to the cleaners in their last group game, but the hosts met in the Super Falcons a team hungry for passage to the second round of the competition.

With the exit of South Africa, who lost their last group game to Germany earlier in the day, the onus was on Nigeria to maintain Africa’s presence in the competition. That would become clear after all the group games, as the Super Falcons now fall among the third placed teams that could move to the second round as best losers.

However, that fate could have been avoided but for a referee, who saw things differently from Nigeria’s perspective.

The match was heading to a goalless draw until the 79th minute when Honduran referee Melissa Borjas’ decided that Nigeria’s Ngozi Ebere fouled Viviane Asseyi in the box. Ebere was sent off, but the drama did not end there as Borjas ordered a replay of the kick after Wendle Renard had lost her first attempt.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, a youth international, who was drafted in as first choice stopper after the first game, showed she has the heart for the big occasion with her positioning, reflexes and interception in the game dominated by France.

This was an unconvincing display by Corinne Diacre’s side against a team ranked 38th in the world, with France guilty of wasteful finishing before late drama in Brittany.

Speaking at the end of the game, Super Falcons’ Coach, Thomas Dennerby described his girls as heroines following their gallant display.

He said: “I have nothing but pride over the performance of these girls. Even with 10 players, they still held their own against one of the best teams in the world.
“We now have to wait to see what happens in the other groups. It is no longer in our hands.”

Also speaking after the game, French coach, Corinne Diacre admitted that they got more than they bargained for from Nigeria. She also spoke on the controversial VAR rule that gave her side victory.

EPL: Sir Alex Ferguson advises Manchester United on new appointment

Former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has urged the club to appoint Steve Walsh in a consultancy role.
Ferguson said this will help the club with structural changes, according to Sky Sports.

Sir Alex recommended Walsh for a consultancy role at the Old Trafford as the club looks to overhaul their talent spotting and talent development strategy.
According to Sky Sports, the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward still favours bringing in a former United player for the role.
54-year-old Walsh, was head of recruitment at Leicester when they upset the odds to win the 2015/16 Premier League title.

Walsh was credited for the signings of N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez the Forces, both of whom were later sold for substantial profits.
He most recently spent two years as director of football at Everton.

Transfer: Nigerian forward leaves Liverpool

[Image: Liverpool-squad-ahead-of-Barca-May2019.jpg]

Liverpool winger, Sheyi Ojo, has joined Rangers on a season-long loan.
Ojo spent last season on loan at Stade Reims in France, before signing a new five-year deal with the European champions.

The 21-year-old arrived at the Ibrox club’s training centre on Monday and Steven Gerrard’s fifth summer signing after Steven Davis, Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Greg Stewart.
“The last 18 months to two years I’ve not had that consistent opportunity.
“When I heard Rangers were involved I spoke to my representatives, the gaffer and Steven Gerrard. I believed this was the right destination for me.

“With Rangers this season it is to play how I’ve always played, freely and just enjoy my football,” the Nigerian-born forward told Rangers TV.
Ojo’s move is subject to international clearance.

Transfer: West Ham demand Man United top striker as part of deal for Diop

[Image: issa-diop-whufc-defender-1540797769.jpg]

West Ham have told Manchester United to make French forward Anthony Martial part of the deal to sign Issa Diop, according to The Independent.
Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s side are in the market for a new central defender and Diop is on their shortlist after his outstanding debut season at West Ham.

The Hammers have earlier turn down United’s £40 million bid for Diop, while reports have claimed that the 22-year-old is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
According to The Independent, West Ham have shown no indication that they are willing to sell Diop but have told United during talks that a deal could be possible if Martial is included
United, however, are not willing to let Martial leave Old Trafford, which means they could be forced to spend at least £60m on Diop.

The French centre-back was signed by West Ham in a £22m deal from Toulouse last summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have already been frustrated in their search for a new centre-back as Leicester City are demanding £80m for Harry Maguire.
Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is also on United’s shortlist but the Serie A club want well in excess of £100m for the Senegal international.

Transfer: Barcelona give Liverpool green light to sign £90 million rated forward

Barcelona have given Liverpool the green light to sign £90 million French star, Dembele, according to Teamtalk.
The Catalans hope to recoup the £90 million they paid for the player in 2017.
Following Antoine Griezmann’s decision to leave Atletico Madrid for Barcelona, Dembele’s future at the Camp Nou now lies in the balance.
The newspaper reports that Liverpool have been alerted to the 22-year-old’s availability.
Liverpool will only make signings if they can realistically get hold of top targets such as Dembele and manager Jurgen Klopp is understood to be a huge fan of the Frenchman.
He scored 14 goals and assisted a further nine last season.

Sevilla offers Nigerian striker two-year contract extension after impressive performance

[Image: CBCF1E21-97B7-4108-BE1A-A1542604F43B.jpeg]

Sevilla have offered Nigerian-American female striker, Toni Payne, a two-year contract extension following an impressive first season in Spain.
Toni Payne agreed on Tuesday to sign a contract extension, tying her to Sevilla until 2021.

The Nigerian-American forward had agreed to a one-year deal with the Spanish outfit in June 2018.
The former Concacaf Women’s U-17 winner with the USA joined Sevilla after ending her two-year sojourn with Netherlands Eredivisie women’s champions Ajax in July 2018.
On her debut season in Spain, Payne impressed scoring 10 goals and provided three assists in 30 appearances, including three goals in Spanish Queen’s Cup same term.

Having excelled in her maiden outing for Cristian Toro’s side, the 24-year-old was handed a new two-year contract at Campo Huerto de la Mariana.
“Toni Payne will play three seasons wearing the Sevilla FC jersey,” the club announced in a statement on its website on Tuesday.
“The 24-year-old attacker from Birmingham will extend her stay in Spanish football, which was premiered in the last academic year 2018/2019 by the Seville team.

“Her tip of speed and effectiveness are two qualities highly valued by the technicians.
“In summary, Payne has signed some very interesting numbers in her first year in the capital of Andalusia.
“Over 30 matches, broken down by 27 in the Iberdrola League and three in the Copa de la Reina, contributed seven points.

“These figures are rounded up with two assists. The 2019/2020 project continues to take shape with the continuity of Toni Payne.”
Having ensured their top-flight survival last season, Sevilla will aim to go all the way in the 2019/20120 season, having retained the services of Payne, who is keen to represent Nigerian Super Falcons.

Transfer: De Ligt rejects Barcelona, makes decision on next club

Ajax captain, Matthijs de Ligt, has rejected the chance to join Barcelona this summer, according to Cadena Ser’s El Larguero.
The 19-year-old defender has been courted by many of Europe’s top clubs, after a fine season for his club and Holland.

Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester United are all trying to sign the teenager this summer. But it now appears he will sign for Paris Saint-Germain in a stunning move.
De Ligt has rejected Barca, in spite of president Josep Maria Bartomeu travelling to Amsterdam in bid to convince the player, as he had successfully done with Ajax team-mate Frenkie de Jong.
Mino Raiola who represents the player, was always likely to prove a stumbling block in a move to the Camp Nou and has now engineered a big-money deal with the Ligue 1 champions.

Transfer: Man Utd to pay Pogba £3.78m loyalty bonus

Manchester United will pay Paul Pogba a £3.78million loyalty bonus, despite the player admitting it might be time to leave Old Trafford in search of a “new challenge”, SportsMail reports.
Pogba’s bumper pay-out is due on July 1, just two weeks after he gave the interview about his future, while on a promotional visit to Tokyo.

The France midfielder’s loyalty payment has increased from the £3.46m he received last year, under the terms of his five-year contract at United.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola, who banked £41m from the player’s then world record £89m return to Old Trafford in 2016, has been in talks over a move to Real Madrid and his old club Juventus this summer.
Spain is thought to be Pogba’s preferred destination and Madrid believe it would take a bid in the region of £150m to bring United to the table.

United maintain that the 26-year-old is not for sale and expect him to be playing for them next season.
Pogba is under contract until 2021 and the club have the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Transfer: Unai Emery told to sell three Arsenal players

Former Arsenal star, Charlie Nicholas, has urged Unai Emery to sell three players, before bolstering his defensive options this summer.
The Gunners suffered a dismal run of form towards the end of the 2018/2019 campaign, to fall out of the top-four in the Premier League.

Having also lost to London rivals Chelsea in the Europa League final, Arsenal will again be absent from the Champions League next season.
Nicholas has identified Mesut Ozil, Lucas Torreira and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, as players who should be sold if the right offer is on the table.
“We’re being slow again in the market. The manager has identified plenty of options. Defensively is the key area.

“I just hope we don’t delay these deals. Arsenal need to get into the market. We can’t afford someone like Aaron Wan-Bissaka but we need a whole new defence really.
“We need three defenders to come in which will cost £60-£70m.
“Who can they get out of the door? If you can get the right offer for Mesut Ozil you’d sell. Mkhitaryan can go and you want to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

“Torreira seems to be interested in going back to Italy. If you can get the right money: take it,” he told Sky Sports.

World Cup: Super FWorld Cup: Super Falcons’ chances of qualifying reduce as Brazil take second slot
[Image: super-falcons7.jpg]
Nigeria will now be watching the rest of the 2019 Women’s World Cup nervously.
The Super Falcons saw their chances of making the Round of 16 reduce, as Brazil took the second slot after Tuesday matches.
The South Americans beat Italy 1-0, thanks to Marta’s late penalty, to claim third spot in Group C.

Three of the teams in the group including Australia finished with six points, while Jamaica had zero.
There are now two slots left for the best third-placed teams.

For the African champions to qualify now, Scotland need to beat Argentina on Wednesday. Or at least hold the South Americans to a draw.
New Zealand must also hold Cameroon or if either side wins on Thursday, it must not be by more than three goals.
Thailand, who have conceded 18 times already, should not lose by more than three goals to Chile.

Transfer: Nigerian prolific striker rejects Manchester United’s offer

Prolific Nigerian striker, Ademipo Odubeko, rejected new contract offer from Manchester United and will bid farewell to the club at the end of this month, according to Allnigeriasoccer.com.
He would have been a first-year scholar at Old Trafford next season but has rejected a contract offer from the club.

The 16-year-old followed in the footsteps of another Nigerian, Tosin Kehinde, who opted to leave Old Trafford last summer because there were no guarantees he would break into the first team.
Odubeko relocated to England with his parents in August 2015 on the invitation of Manchester City, where he spent five months before he was snapped up by Manchester United.
Two players of Nigerian descent, Ayodeji Sotona and Dillon Hoogewerf, have, however, agreed scholarship contracts with Manchester United.

Platini reveals questions investigators asked following release from custody

Former UEFA president, Michel Platini, was released from custody in the early hours of Wednesday, after being grilled as part of a corruption investigation, into the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.
Platini told reporters afterwards, that he was expecting to be questioned as a witness as he was 18 months ago and was “hurt” when he was taken into custody instead.

“It hurts. It hurts for everything I can think of, everything I’ve done. It hurts, it hurts.
But after all, they did their job and then we tried to answer all the questions,” he said.
Platini revealed investigators quizzed him about an array of tournaments, including the 2016 European Championship, the World Cups in Russia in 2018 and in Qatar in 2022.

The Frenchman influenced where these tournaments would be played, as the president of UEFA and as a vice-president at FIFA.
The investigators also asked about French club Paris Saint-Germain, which was bought by Qatar in 2011.
William Bourdon, Platini’s lawyer, said his client was innocent of all charges and that he had been questioned on “technical grounds”.

“It was long, but given the number of questions, it could not be different.
“I feel totally foreign to any of these matters. This is an old affair, you know it, we explained it. I have always expressed myself with full transparency in all the newspapers. That’s it, it goes on, they investigate, they search,” Platini added.
The 63-year-old was taken into custody on Tuesday morning and held at premises of the Anti-Corruption Office of the Judicial Police (OCLCIFF).

Jose Mourinho reveals future plans six months after Man Utd sacking

[Image: Jose-Mourinho-1.jpg?resize=770%2C451&ssl=1]

Immediate-past Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has revealed that his next managerial stint would more likely be with a national team rather than a club.
Since leaving the Old Trafford side in December 2018, the 56-year-old has had a stint as a pundit with BeIN Sports.
However, he revealed in an interview with Eleven Sports that he would most likely return to management soon.

Mourinho said that his next adventure might not be as manager of Portugal, his home country.
He said, “I want to compete in new competitions.
“I think about the World Cup and the European Championships.

“For a long time I have had the desire to try out such an adventure. Right now, I see myself more at a national team than with a new club.
“Is Portugal the right team for me? Not necessarily.”
Mourinho is regarded as one of the most accomplished managers in modern club football, having won two UEFA Champions League titles and league titles in different countries.

For the first time since its inception, there will be 24 teams at the AFCON finals including the Super Eagles.
The West Africans are set to return to the continental stage since 2013 and they have been placed in Group B against debutants Burundi and Madagascar, and Guinea.

Ahead of their opening fixture against Burundi on June 22, Iwobi disclosed that the tournament will not be an easy ride for any team in Egypt.

“Everyone is saying on papers that we should go through and qualify [from Group B] but we know it is not going to be easy,” Iwobi told the NFF media .

“Every team is there to try and do their best, to try and win. It is going to be almost like a war, it is going to be a serious battle and fight, every game will be competitive.

“I’m sure Madagascar and Burundi, even though it is their first, they will come to prove to everyone why they had the chance to get to the AFCON.

“We know it will not be easy because it’s been a while we played at the Africa Cup of Nations but we are going with confidence and our heads held up high.

“And not only that, we are still young and the future is very bright with young talents in the team. There is a lot of hope and a bright future ahead of us.”

Nigeria is one of the most successful countries in the competition having won the tournament in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
On the Super Eagles’ target at their 18th AFCON appearance, Iwobi said: “We haven’t really discussed that as a team. We haven’t really pinpointed what we want to achieve but we all have this dream and this idea that we want to win the competition so that’s what we are going to do because we are confident and we are going to keep working hard and hopefully, we can do not just ourselves proud but our nation as well.”

Barely two weeks after winning the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), Enyimba of Aba were yesterday knocked out of the Aiteo Cup by an amateur club.

Also out of the Aiteo Cup are defending champions, Enugu Rangers, who were beaten 2-0 by Lobi Stars yesterday.

Playing at the University of Benin Sports Centre, Enyimba were beaten 2-3 by non-league Smart City FC of Lagos.

The Lagos State FA Cup champions shocked the eighth time league kings in the 17th minute when Bashiru Kareem put them ahead, but they equalised through a Tunde Adejoku own goal.

However, to show they meant business, Smart City went ahead again three minutes later through John Gini.
The first half ended 2-1 in favour of Smart City.
Sensing that the game was getting out of his grips, Enyimba Coach, Usman Abd’Allah brought in some of his top players in the second half, but that did not scare the Lagos giant killers.
Although Abdulrahman Bashir, a second half substitute, got Enyimba back on level terms in the 64th minute, it took Smart City just 10 minutes to regain their lead through Abduljabar Umar.

They held on to record the biggest upset of the day.
In Minna, Michael Stephen scored a brace, one in each half, to give Lobi Stars a sweet revenge over Rangers, who defeated them at the NPFL play-off last week.

In other games, Rivers United defeated Akwa United 3-0 with goals from the boots of Kehinde Adedipe, Bright Onyedikachi and Ossy Martins, just as EFCC defeated Sunshine Stars 1-0.

Warri Wolves beat Ambassadors 1-0, Gateway lost 0-2 to Abia Warriors, while AKLOSENDI upset Nasarawa United 1-0.

Chelsea have offered Nigerian-born star, Tariq Uwakwe to French giant, Lyon, according to allnigeriasoccer.
Lyon have been offered the chance to sign the England youth player this summer.

The versatile forward had hinted that he wanted to move onto new pastures, preferably a foreign club.
However, Lyon are unlikely to sign the player with the assumption that he would not be ready for first team football straightaway.
The 19-year-old has been offered a contract extension to remain at Stamford Bridge beyond June 30, 2019 but is unwilling to sign.

Uwakwe, who is considered one of the promising players at Chelsea, trained with the first team ahead of the Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur last February.
