Transfer: PSG director admits Mbappe might leave amid Real Madrid interest

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director, Leonardo has said he cannot promise fans that Kylian Mbappe will remain at the club.
Real Madrid are believed to be seriously courting the 20-year-old, after dropping interest in his team-mate, Neymar.

Mbappe himself claimed earlier this summer that a ‘new project’ may appeal to him.
Leonardo believes the Frenchman is happy in Paris but refused to give guarantees that he will still be at the Parc des Princes when the transfer window closes.
“There’s no doubt he’s a priority for us or not. Mbappe is here and he is very important to the club, there’s no question about it.

“When training resumed on Monday, he arrived with a great attitude – a big smile on his face.
“As always. He’s very charismatic, the fans love him. It’s important to have a player like him in the team – one who’s young and always happy and smiling,” he told Le Parisien.
Leonardo added: “I never make promises for two reasons. Firstly because I am not the person who is responsible for everything that happens at this club and, secondly, I don’t want to throw promises up into the air without being sure that they can be kept.

“I’m only interested in reality, and what we know for sure today.”
Despite his young age, Mbappe has already scored 60 goals for PSG in two seasons.

Transfer: Diego Costa set to make shock Premier League return

[Image: skysports-diego-costa-atletico-madrid_4644146.jpg]

Wolverhampton Wanderers are set for a sensational move for Atletico Madrid striker, Diego Costa, SportsBible reports.
The 30-year-old remains subject to intense transfer speculation, with the player heavily linked with a return to the Premier League

Everton have expressed an interest in signing Costa, who has previously featured for Chelsea.
But it appears Wolves are also in the mix to sign him from Atletico.
Costa’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has already confirmed that his client has had offers to return to England.

“Diego has had numerous offers to return back to England but only one has stood out,” Mendes said.

Nigeria vs South Africa: Babangida tells Super Eagles how to beat Bafana Bafana

[Image: Super-Eagles-South-Africa-Nov2018-1280x720.jpg]

Former Nigeria international, Tijani Babangida, has advised Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles on what to do to beat South Africa national team ahead of both sides’ 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, quarter-final fixture on Wednesday at the Cairo International Stadium.
Babangida urged Rohr’s men to play positive football and to make use of the speed of forwards, Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon against the Bafana Bafana in order to progress to the competition’s last four.

The ex-winger, who scored two goals in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over South Africa at the 2000 AFCON semi-final encounter, told Goal: “We should play positive football, just like the way we played against them in South Africa. By doing so, the defence won’t be vulnerable when we are going on the attack.
“We must use our wingers because that is where our power lies, and positive football is from the wing play. We also have [Ahmed] Musa and [Moses] Simon for speed.”
Babangida added: “Our defenders need to be very attentive and need to quickly decide on the ball. The midfielders also have a lot to do to help the defence

Senegal beat Benin 1-0 in Cairo to become the first side to book their place in the semi-finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Sadio Mane and Idrissa Gueye linked up to break Benin's resolve as Africa Cup of Nations favourites Senegal earned a 1-0 win in Wednesday's quarter-final.

Senegal escaped with a slender victory against Uganda in the last 16 and they were again made to work hard to keep their quest for a first AFCON title alive by Benin.

Following a quiet opening hour in Cairo that saw Mane largely shackled, Aliou Cisse's side stepped things up and found a winner 21 minutes from time through Everton midfielder Gueye.

Gueye exchanged passes with Mane and converted into the far corner to book a semi-final date with either Madagascar or Tunisia and end the dream rum of Benin, who were reduced to 10 men late on when Olivier Verdon was dismissed.

RE: SPORTS UPDATE - Edoman - 07-10-2019

Divock Origi has committed his future to Liverpool Football Club by signing a new long-term contract at Melwood today.

The 24-year-old, who signed from Lille in 2014, penned the fresh deal with the Reds to extend his already memorable career on Merseyside.

The striker’s place in Anfield folklore was cemented when he scored the second goal in last month’s Champions League final victory over Tottenham Hotspur to secure the club’s sixth European Cup.

Since agreeing a switch to Liverpool in 2014, before spending a further year on loan with Lille, Origi has scored 28 goals in 98 appearances for the club.

The Belgium international thrived following the arrival of Jürgen Klopp as manager during the 2015-16 campaign as the Reds reached two major cup finals.

He later joined Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on a season-long loan in August 2017 before returning to Anfield ahead of what would prove to be a landmark season.

After his first appearance in 2018-19 came in early November, Origi went on to deliver invaluable contributions to Liverpool’s Champions League success and 97-point Premier League campaign.

“[I want] to keep progressing and trying to maximise the potential and talent I have each and every day,” the striker added. “At the end of my career I want to sit back and be proud that I used all of my gifts and talents.

“I think the next years are going to be very special – prime years, maybe – and I’m going to try to use them to the fullest.”

Super Eagles eliminate South Africa to cruise to AFCON 2019 semi-finals

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are through to the semi-finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2-1 at the Cairo International Stadium.

William Ekong’s 90th-minute winner dealt the cruelest blow to Stuart Baxter’s side, who had fought back to level in an even contest at Cairo’s International Stadium.

Bafana couldn’t muster the intensity that saw them put the wind up host nation Egypt from the get-go the previous weekend.

Samuel Chukwueze and William Troost-Ekong's goals was enough to seal Nigeria’s place in the last four of the tournament.

Chelsea vs Bohemians: What Lampard said after failing to win first game in charge

New Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has said he is pleased with the performances of young players, after a 1-1 with Bohemians in Dublin in his first match in charge.
Michy Batshuayi handed Chelsea an early lead when he slammed the ball, before Eric Molloy equalised in the final minute of time.

With a number of Chelsea’s first-team players yet to return for pre-season, Lampard named two separate XIs for the first and second halves with the likes of Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Kurt Zouma all given a runout.
Among their better performers on the night, were teenagers Ethan Ampadu, Conor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour and 17-year-old Ian Maatsen.
“Fitness was our issue, obviously. We’ve been working them hard and worked them hard this morning, I wanted to stretch them and put them under pressure a bit as that’s what pre-season is all about. The quicker we get to the level we want the better for us.

“It was good competition for us, we would have wanted the win obviously as you always do but it’s not about that at this point, it’s about individuals getting fit and pushing themselves to the limit and I thought some of the performances, particularly from the young lads were really good.
“I’ve been really happy [with their application]. I’ve got a way that I work, that we work as staff and we’ve brought that in, it’s hard and taxing on the players.
“We wanted to get straight into them and we have to to get that level of fitness into our game and I’m pleased with how they’ve taken that on,” Lampard said after the match.

Chelsea’s next pre-season friendly, will be against St Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park on Saturday.

Nigeria vs South Africa: Jay Jay Okocha singles out two players

Nigeria legend, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, has reacted to Super Eagles’ 2-1 victory over South Africa at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation quarter-final encounter on Wednesday night.
Okocha also singled out Arsenal star, Alex Iwobi and Villereal winger, Samuel Chukwueze for their outstanding performances against the Bafana Bafana at the Cairo International Stadium.

Samuel Chukwueze gave Gernot Rohr’s men a 1-0 lead at the break after an assist from Alex Iwobi.
However, South Africa levelled in the second half, thanks to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision.
With the match looking to head into extra time, William Troost-Ekong forced the ball over the line in the final minute of play.

“I think we had two different half. In the first half we dominated the game and we took the game to the South Africans,” Okocha told SuperSport in his post-match analysis.
“In the second half, we started defending so soon and then we allowed the South Africans to start getting the balls.”
Okocha added: “Iwobi eliminating his man there and Chukwueze in the right place at the right time did fantastic.

“I knew we needed a second goal because at some point the South Africa would create a chance and I think the goalkeeper kept them in the game and that was what happened. The VAR goal they scored gave them the confidence to come back to the game.”
Nigeria will now play the winner between Ivory Coast and Algeria in the semi-final in few days’ time.

Super Eagles vice captain Ahmed Musa and Williams Troost-Ekong have said both Algeria and Cote D’Ivoire are blessed with quality players.

The Super Eagles semi final opponent will emerge after tonight’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final match between Riyad Mahrez led Algeria  side and Ivory Coast with Wilfried Zaha.
Mahrez found the net as Algeria secured progression to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over Guinea.
The Manchester City winger, who completed the full 90 minutes and earned the Man of the Match award, struck a wonderful effort just before the hour mark in Cairo, doubling the lead after Youcef Belaïli had broken the deadlock in the first half.

Wilfried Zaha scored the winner as the Ivory Coast beat Mali 1-0 to reach the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

The Crystal Palace forward, who has been linked with a summer move to Arsenal, raced on to Sylvain Gbohouo’s deep free-kick and got to the ball before Mali goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.
“We kept fighting and believing even when the South Africans scored to level against Nigeria,” Ahmed Musa said in a post-match interview on Wednesday in Cairo.
“We would rather not pitch but wait for a winner to emerge be ready to face the winner in the semi-final. But, I must say both sides are strong and good side with great players beyond the continent,” he added.
In the same vein Troost Ekong who was the match winner against the Bafana Bafana on Wednesday reckoned that  both Ivory Coast and Algeria sides are teams to beat.
“ I know we would be ready to play who ever emerged as the winner. I have no preference both sides are strong, tough and compact,” he said.
As it is before the match it appears the Eagles are stock between the devil and the deep blue sea Nations Cup Pundits have described Algeria as “Dreadful” and the best to avoid to lift AFCON trophy just as they have same analysis for the strong Ivory Coast side that have remained resolute with eyes on the AFCON trophy.
Troost-Ekong scored a dramatic late winner to send Nigeria into the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final at the expense of South Africa. Samuel Chukwueze hit the opener as he controlled Alex Iwobi’s cross, before scoring at the second attempt.

Bongani Zungu equalised with a header initially ruled out for offside before VAR replays showed a free-kick hit a Nigerian player on the way to him. But Udinese’s Troost-Ekong bundled home from close range late on to win it.
His finish was into an empty net after goalkeeper Ronwen Williams totally missed Moses Simon’s corner. Nigeria face Ivory Coast or Algeria in Sunday’s second semi-final (20:00 BST).

Striker Wilfried Bony and midfielder Serey Die missed penalties in the shootout as Algeria sealed a 4-3 victory over Cote d’Ivoire following an entertaining 1-1 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final draw on Thursday.
Algeria will now meet Nigeria in the semi-finals at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday as they seek to end their long wait for continental success that stretches back to 1990.

Sofiane Feghouli put Algeria ahead in the first half, but they failed to increase that advantage when Baghdad Bounedjah missed a penalty early in the second period.
Cote d’Ivoire striker, Jonathan Kodjia equalised just past the hour mark, after which both sides created chances and had efforts cleared off the line, but were unable to be separated in 120 minutes. (Reuters/NAN)
