Sex-for-mark scandal: OAU lecturer’s church members speak

The male voice in the leaked sex-for-mark audio which has got Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife reeling in public attention since Monday is that of Richard Akindele of the school’s Faculty of Administration, the lecturer’s church members have said.

A spokesperson of the school had told PREMIUM TIMES the institution was investigating the matter.

However, several members and a reverend of the Anglican Diocese of Ife, Osun State told PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday they had listened to the audio and could confirm it was Mr Akindele who was heard demanding sex to pass a female student in the recording.

Mr Akindele, a Professor of Management and Accounting, is also a minister in the church.

Before the church members spoke, several students and staff of Mr Akindele’s department had told PREMIUM TIMES that the male voice was that of the embattled teacher.

It was also gathered that the lady who nailed him is a final year student, who failed a course taught by Mr Akindele. Repeated efforts to get the lecturer’s reaction have not been successful since Monday. He was not available the different times our correspondent went to his office. He is yet to publicly speak on the scandal.


Our correspondent went to his church on Tuesday to speak to members on the controversy surrounding the professor.

One of the members, who asked not to be named, said: “There is no need for any computer to test the voice. The voice in the leaked audio is exactly that of Reverend Richard Akindele. However, the man is too gentle for such act. The lady purposely set him up.”

Court Denies Professor Richard Akindele Bail Over OAU Sex For Marks Scandal


Embattled OAU lecturer, Professor Richard Akindele, who was charged with demanding sex to pass his student, Monica Osagie, was denied bail by a Federal High Court in Osogbo on Tuesday.

ICPC Senior Legal Officer, Mr Kehinde Adetoye had earlier asked the court to deny the defendant bail on grounds that he will not appear for his trial when released. Vanguard reported that the move was backed by the defendant's failure to show up at the ICPC office in Abuja after a written agreement to honour any invitation extended to him,  particularly on his return from abroad on a medical trip.

Ruling on the case, Justice Maureen Onyetenu who ordered Akindele to be remanded in Ilesa Prison until Dec. 17, ordered the prosecution counsel from the ICPC to produce video evidence of the lecturer and his student having fun.

The OAU lecturer was first arraigned before Justice Maureen Onyetenu on Nov. 19 by the ICPC, on four counts of alteration of age and demanding sex to pass his student .

'I Am Guilty' - OAU S*x-for-marks Lecturer Admits, Changes Plea


A former Obafemi Awolowo University lecturer who was accused of demanding for s*x to pass a student, has pleaded guilty. 

According to Punch Metro, Prof. Richard Iyiola Akindele, a former lecturer in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife dragged to court for demanding s*x to pass one of his students, Monica Osagie, on Monday changed his plea from ‘not guilty’ to ‘guilty.’

The prosecutor, Mr. Shogunle Adenekan said all parties in the matter have reach plea bargain and pleaded for a suspended sentence for the accused.

The matter was stood down for one hour.
