Man City coach, Pep Guardiola slams FIFA and UEFA, says they're "killing players"

Manchester City Manager, Pep Guardiola has blamed FIFA and UEFA for 'killing his players' due to an overly congested fixture list hence he'll have to keep rotating players.
Guardiola made six changes to his starting XI as City moved closer to the Premier League title by beating Leicester City 2-0 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
The Spaniard has vowed to keep changing his line up ahead of a Champions League quarter-final meeting with Borussia Dortmund this week, insisting his players cannot be expected to play three games in a week without proper rest.
"They are human beings, they are not machines," Guardiola told reporters. "I know the players, some of them are upset all the time because they want to play every day but this is not possible.
"To compete in all competitions in this year without spectators, in the shortest competition ever, (if) you don't rotate you don't compete in all competitions and you will not be in the position we are in now.
"Of course they could play, they have an incredible mentality but they need rest. UEFA and FIFA killed the players because it's too much. We haven't had one midweek off since we started, not even one.
"There is no player who can sustain (this), not just physically but mentally to be ready every day to compete against opponents to win the game. It's impossible.
"I rotate I'm a genius, 'well done Pep' but when we lose and I rotate people say 'why rotate? You have to play the players like normal'. But it's unsustainable.
"The next game we are going to play fresh legs and against Leeds [United], more than ever, fresh legs."
City also have an FA Cup semi-final showdown against Chelsea and a Carabao Cup final clash with Tottenham later this month.

Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane wants to join Italian giants, Juventus from Real Madrid.
The Frenchman is said to be seriously considering leaving Real Madrid at the end of this season, according to Todofichajes.
Zidane has been dropping hints about leaving Santiago Bernabeu and has not committed himself with a new deal.
The former midfielder is one manager being considered for the Juventus bench.
Juventus have so far kept faith with Andrea Pirlo but he has seen his side struggle for form and they could fire him.
Juventus crashed out of the Champions League to FC Porto and are struggling in the league, dropping points in two consecutive games that they should have won against Benevento and Torino.
Andrea Pirlo’s side face Napoli in their next match and they are a tough side to face for any team.
The report says that if Juve fails to win against Napoli on Wednesday the club’s board may have to let Pirlo go.
And the report added that Juventus may be Zidane’s next destination.

Tottenham Hotspur may have to pay less than the reported £30million in pay-off, if they decide to sack Jose Mourinho as manager this summer, Daily Mail reports.
Rumours had claimed Mourinho would be due a huge compensation if the club decided to sack him ahead of his contract expiring in 2023.
The former Manchester United and Chelsea boss is said to be earning around £15million a year with Spurs and with no break clause, chairman Daniel Levy would have to stump up the remainder of his expected salary should he choose to let the manager go.
However, Mourinho’s payout is dependent on Tottenham’s league position and if the club qualifies for Europe.
Failure to reach the Champions League or Europa league would see his entitlement reduced in the event he was to lose his job.

Stoke City manager blames Mikel Obi, others for 2-1 defeat to Millwall

Stoke manager, Michael O’Neill, has blamed John Mikel Obi and his other team-mates for a poor second half, which resulted in a 2-1 defeat to Millwall on Monday night.
Mikel Obi played the entire 90 minutes of the Championship clash, but was unable to stop his team losing at home.
However, O’Neill insists the game should have been won.
Stoke most likely settle for a place in the second tier next season, after their three-game unbeaten streak was ended by Gary Rowett’s team, as they are now 11 points off the top six.
“I’m very disappointed with the result, very disappointed with the second-half performance really. We showed two sides of our character today, first half we were excellent, really good play.
“But we conceded a poor goal after three clean sheets and conceded another poor goal in the second half.
“It was a defensive error that cost us, I didn’t think we’d lose the game to be honest,” O’Neill said.

De Gea takes final decision on leaving Man Utd after clashing with Solskjaer over Henderson

Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea, is reportedly preparing to leave Old Trafford after clashing with manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, over teammate Dean Henderson.
De Gea has been Man United’s first-choice goalkeeper for nearly a decade, but the return of Henderson after his loan spell at Sheffield United last season has provided Solskjaer with a serious dilemma.
Henderson started for Man United in their 2-1 win over Brighton on Sunday, but it is believed problems between De Gea and Solskjaer go much further back.
The England international is currently ahead of De Gea in Solskjaer’s pecking order of keepers.
According to MailSport, De Gea, who is still considered one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, is now ready to quit Man United.
The 30-year-old, who currently earns £375,000-a-week, has a contract with the Red Devils until 2023.
The Spain international has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and his former club Atletico Madrid in the past.
De Gea will likely attract an offer in the region of £40million.

Barcelona are now only one point behind LaLiga leaders, Atletico Madrid.
This is following their 1-0 victory over Real Valladolid on Monday, thanks to Ousmane Dembele’s late winner.
The Catalans struggled to create many chances in the first half, but were denied before the interval, when Valladolid keeper Jordi Masip steered a well-hit Pedri shot off the post.
The game changed complexion, when Valladolid’s Oscar Plano was shown a straight red with 10 minutes left.
With a few minutes left, Dembele volleyed past Plano.
Barcelona now have 65 points from 29 games, one behind Atleti with nine games left to play in the season.
Real Madrid, who are in third place in La Liga on 63 points, host Barcelona in another edition of the Clasico on April 10 in a crunch match for both team’s title hopes.

Big blow for Real Madrid as Raphael Varane tests positive for coronavirus hours before Champions League quarter-final clash with Liverpool

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane will miss Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Liverpool after testing positive for coronavirus.
The 27-year-old French international was set to start the quarter-final first leg in Spain but will now be unavailable for Zinedine Zidane’s side after he returned a positive Coronavirus test on the morning of the match.
The Spanish giants will be without both first-choice central defenders for the game tonight with Sergio Ramos already sidelined due to a calf injury he picked up on international duty with Spain.
Real said in a statement on their official website: “Real Madrid C. F. informs that our player Raphael Varane tested positive in the COVID-19 test he underwent this morning.”
Brazilian defender Eder Militao will now be required to start alongside Nacho Fernandez and Ferland Mendy, with coach Zinedine Zidane likely to use a 3-5-2 formation.

UCL: Zidane speaks on becoming Juventus manager after Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Liverpool

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane has responded to the speculations linking him to a return to Juventus as manager.
The Frenchman refused to rule himself out of a return to the Italian champions.
There have been speculations that the former Juventus midfielder could return to the club as replacement for Andrea Pirlo.
Zidane played for five seasons for Juve before moving to Real Madrid to become the most expensive player in the world with a £47.5million move to the Bernabeu in 2001.
Zidane’s position as Real Madrid manager is already under scrutiny heading into the summer with constant pressure at the Bernabeu – particularly as rivals Atletico Madrid are currently top of La Liga.
This has led to rumours that the World Cup winner could return to Turin in a bid to revive the Old Lady.
“Italy is always in my heart and Juventus has always been important to me,” Zidane told reporters.
“Coming back? I don’t know (laughs). I’m here at Real Madrid now. Let’s see.”
Zidane will lead Real Madrid to England next Wednesday where they will be expected to meet Liverpool at Anfield looking to confirm their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Goals from Vinicius Junior(2) and Marco Asensio (1) helped the Spanish giants to a 3-1 win over the Premier League champions on Tuesday.

Midfielder Mateo Kovacic has reacted to Portugal defender, Pepe’s claims that Chelsea celebrated drawing Porto in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The Chelsea midfielder insisted that ‘it will not be easy’ for the Blues to defeat the Portuguese champions and reach this year’s semi-finals.
Pepe anchored Porto’s defence when they sent Juventus out of the competition in the round of 16 and Chelsea with Kovacic in the midfield overcame Atletico Madrid to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Rumours circulated last month that the Chelsea squad went into dancing on discovering that they were going to meet Porto in the quarter-finals.
And ahead of their meeting on Wednesday veteran defender Pepe, insisted that Thomas Tuchel’s men celebrated the draw but warned the Blues that it would not be as easy as they think.
“It was public that Chelsea players celebrated the draw. But they also know that it will be a difficult game,” the ex-Real Madrid centre-back told TNT Sports.
“They know that we are a humble, hard-working, supportive team. In the spirit of our fans and what the coach demands of us as players, the work must always be there.”
However, Kovacic said it was not true that Chelsea are undermining the strengths of their opponents, describing Pepe’s claims as strange.
Kovacic, who was Pepe’s teammates at Real Madrid, insisted Chelsea’s squad have the utmost respect for Porto
Asked whether there was any truth to the claims, Kovacic told reporters, “No.
It’s strange to hear that from Pepe because I played with him for three years so I don’t know what he actually means with that or if he said it.
“But of course not. I didn’t celebrate because when I played before at Real Madrid, I know that in these kinds of stages there are no lucky opponents or bad opponents.
“This is a tough draw, Porto is an amazing team which we saw against Juventus and they knocked them out so it’s a big opponent out.
“They showed great character and a great team spirit and we need to show that as well tomorrow. We need to try our best to go through but it will not be easy.”

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has identified areas his team must improve after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie on Tuesday night at Etihad.
Guardiola, who congratulated his players after securing a vital win over Bundesliga giants, said Man City must improve more on their pressing and build-up in order to qualify for the semi-final.
Kelvin de Bruyne opened the scoring for Man City in the first half, but Marco Reus equalized for Dortmund in the second half, but Phil Foden’s late winner gave the Premier League leaders a first-leg advantage ahead of the return leg next week in Germany.
“I want to congratulate the players,” Guardiola told the club website after the game.
“How they stuck together. The quality of the opponent, not because we were not able to do it, how much we fought and stuck together to the end.”
Guardiola added, “Now we fly there at 2-1- always they score, but we will adjust a few things we could not do today.
“In a calm way, the best way possible, the game we played and see what we can do better.
“We will go there to win the game. I ask the players to win the game. We did it, and now we go to Dortmund not to defend.
“We will adjust our pressing, adjust our build-up and play 90 minutes to try and reach the semi-final.”
Man City’s next game is against Leeds United in the Premier League this weekend.

Michael Owen, a former Real Madrid and Liverpool striker, has predicted Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash between FC Porto and Chelsea at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Sevilla, Spain.
Owen also predicted Bayern Munich’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain at the Allianz Arena Stadium in Germany.
Providing his predictions, Owen told BetVictor, “Thomas Tuchel suffered his first defeat as Chelsea boss against West Brom at the weekend. To lose in that manner was so unlike Chelsea, as they have been rock solid at the back since Tuchel’s arrival.
“Porto have been one of the revelations of this season’s Champions League. They took the scalp of Juventus in the last round, and if the Blues are not careful, they could easily take advantage of any sloppiness.
“That said, I have seen enough of Chelsea to think they have enough to win here. If they turn up and play the way they did against Atletico Madrid in the last round, that should be enough to get a result on the night. FC Porto 0, Chelsea 1.”
Commenting on the Munich vs PSG game, Owen said, “There will be no Robert Lewandowski for Bayern Munich ahead of the visit of PSG. It goes without saying that’s a big blow, however, Bayern are the form side heading into the match.
“Losing 1-0 at home to Lille at the weekend, the pressure looks to be mounting already on Mauricio Pochettino.
“It could not be more different for the hosts. They sit well clear at the top of the Bundesliga, and although I can see PSG scoring on the night, I think the competition holders will have too much, even without Lewandowski. Munich 3, Paris Saint Germain 1.”
The kick-off time for Porto vs Chelsea and Bayern vs PSG is 8 pm.

"You shouldn't be [doing that] anyway," said BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves. "The officials had a job to do and a difficult first half. They got a lot of things wrong. You can be a fan but you can't do that in front of other players - it doesn't look right."
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola - who wants to sign Haaland - seemed less fussed.
"Maybe he's a fan of Haaland," said Guardiola. "Maybe it was for his son or daughter.
"I've never seen it before, but the referee and the linesman were correct, they did a good job. That's all."
Referee Ovidiu Hategan and his team were involved in two controversial incidents in the first half, most notably the decision to disallow a Jude Bellingham goal.
The English teenager thought he had equalised for Dortmund as he beat Ederson to a through ball and tapped into an empty net, but the official blew for a foul on the goalkeeper and booked Bellingham.
Replays indicated it was not a foul but since play had stopped after the whistle was blown, it was not overturned by the video assistant referee.
Bellingham said: "I definitely think I won the ball fairly. It's a bit frustrating in a time when they've got so many cameras watching the game that they don't wait for me to put the ball in the net and then check it."
Officials also awarded City a soft penalty, mistakenly deciding Emre Can had caught Rodri - but that was overturned by the VAR.
Phil Foden's late winner gave City a 2-1 win. Kevin de Bruyne had put the runaway Premier League leaders ahead but Haaland set up Marco Reus for an equaliser.

Manchester City playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne signs new four-year contract worth more than £16million per season

Manchester City playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne has signed a new four-year contract to keep him at the Premier League club until 2025.
The Belgium international, who scored the opener during Tuesday's 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund, has been in talks with the club over a new contract for some time.
De Bruyne, 29, has now put pen to paper on a deal worth more than his previous £300,000 a week to become one of the Premier League's biggest earners.
'I could not be happier,' he said. 'Since joining City in 2015, I have felt at home. I love the fans; my family are settled here in Manchester and my own game has developed really well.
'This football club is geared for success. It offers me everything I need to maximise my performance, so signing this contract was a straightforward decision. I am playing the best football of my career and I honestly feel there is more to come.'
'Pep and I see football in the same way,' the Belgian added. 'Having that relationship with a manager is so important to me because our objectives are totally aligned, and we want the same things.
'My focus now is on ensuring we have a successful end to the current campaign. Our results and performances so far have been excellent, but we need to make sure we end the season with the silverware we deserve.'

Vinicius Junior scored twice as Real Madrid beat Liverpool for a fourth successive time in the Champions League to take a 3-1 aggregate lead in their quarter-final tie.
Shorn of first-choice defenders Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, Madrid took the game to Liverpool from the off in the first meeting between the sides since the 2018 final, exposing the Reds' own defensive frailties.
Vinicius opened the scoring from Toni Kroos' exceptional pass and Trent Alexander-Arnold's error nine minutes later led to Marco Asensio making it 2-0.
Mohamed Salah snatched a potentially crucial away goal for Liverpool, but Vinicus' second ensured a first-leg lead for the 13-time European champions.
Alexander-Arnold's issues started with a sloppy pass in the 24th minute, Ozan Kabak sparing his team-mate's blushes by blocking Karim Benzema's route to goal
Liverpool's luck soon ran out. Having spotted a gap between Alexander-Arnold and Nathaniel Phillips, Kroos dropped an inch-perfect pass onto the chest of Vinicius, who took it brilliantly in his stride before drilling home.
Sadio Mane was left furious not to have been awarded a free-kick for a barge from Lucas Vazquez, and Liverpool's anger was compounded from the subsequent Madrid attack as Alexander-Arnold headed directly into the path of Asensio, who coolly nudged it over Alisson to finish into an empty net.
With Asensio spurning another gift-wrapped opportunity, Jurgen Klopp turned to Thiago Alcantara to replace Naby Keita before half-time, and Liverpool restored parity six minutes after the restart, Salah on hand to tuck in after latching onto a deflected shot.
After Diogo Jota headed wide, Ferland Mendy made a perfectly timed challenge to deny Sadio Mane, and Alexander-Arnold was needed to make a similarly vital intervention at the other end to cut out Asensio's pass to Vinicius.
Vinicius would not be denied his second, however, and his low shot was soon helped into the corner by Alisson to restore Madrid's two-goal cushion ahead of next week's second leg.
What does it mean? Reds have hope but depleted Madrid show their class
Even with Ramos and Varane missing, Liverpool failed to register a single attempt on goal in the opening 45 minutes of a Champions League tie for the first time since 2014 (also against Madrid).
This was Zinedine Zidane's 50th game as a coach in the Champions League and his 31st win.
But Salah's 121st Liverpool goal has provided the Reds – no strangers to famous European comebacks – with a lifeline heading back to Anfield.
Vinicius comes to the fore
Exploiting the space behind Liverpool's high line, Vinicius was at his very best in a fantastic individual display.
With his opener, he became – aged 20 years and 268 days – the second-youngest scorer for Madrid in a Champions League knockout match, after Raul (18y 253d) in 1996 against Juventus.
And only Kylian Mbappe, just 18 against Borussia Dortmund in April 2017, has scored a Champions League brace in the quarter-finals or later at a younger age.
Defensive lapses leave Liverpool reeling
Alexander-Arnold – the centre of much media furore following his omission from England's latest squad – was superb at Arsenal on Saturday, leading Liverpool in crosses (seven), interceptions (three) and key passes (four).
But concerns over the 22-year-old's defensive abilities were again shown to have some grounding on Wednesday. Enough is enough – Willian demands action over online abuse

Willian has urged players to make public the abuse they receive online after revealing the personal impact of such comments on social media.
The Arsenal player shared abusive messages sent to him on Instagram earlier this year, while other high-profile footballers have followed suit in the hope of exposing the issue.
Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford described it as "humanity and social media at its worst" in January in response to messages he received, while Liverpool condemned the "abhorrent racial abuse" aimed at Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita after a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday.
Willian wants more footballers to share their experiences, as well as calling on the authorities to take stronger action.
"The advice is to share, to put it on their social media, to speak, to never stay quiet, never have fear to come and to speak about that," the Brazil international told the media on Wednesday.
"These people have to pay for that. I don't know why they do that, we want to know that, we have to speak, we have to share on our social media and that's it."
On the best way to combat the problem, Willian said: "I think we have to find a way to change the profile of social media, I think people want to have Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, they need to put their ID, then when these things happen, we can catch them.
"The authorities can catch them. That's the action that we want."
Willian understands social media offers a platform for criticism over performances on the pitch, but made clear there is a line that should not be crossed – particularly when it comes to family members.
"It really affects me, what they say about my family. If they want to criticise me, it's no problem, I will always accept that," the former Chelsea player said.
"But when they come to attack you, attack your family with bad words that I cannot say here, that hurts.
That's really affecting me and it's a big problem.
He added: "I feel that, straight away I want to delete my social media account. I have seen some people, they are deleting their social media because of that. Straight away I want to do that.
"Then when you think, when you take a few minutes, you relax a little bit more, the first reaction is to delete."
Willian admitted there have been times he has been worried about going onto social media, considering what he may discover on his personal accounts.
"We are human, you know? I want to understand what these people, who they are, who they think they are to come to speak to us like that," he said.
"We are professional, we do the best to help the team, we want to win, we always want to win, we never want to lose.
"We have our bad days, sometimes we are not feeling good, we have problems like everybody has, we have families, sometimes you don't have it, you are not in a good day, you have a bad game and they come with these kind of words that hurt you.
That's why we want to stop it. Enough is enough."
Last month, Arsenal launched a #StopOnlineAbuse action aimed at tackling the issue of discrimination on social media.
Asked why he felt the time had come to speak out again about the issue, Willian replied: "Well, because we see it day by day, week by week.
"I was in that situation one month ago, and it was very difficult for me because I have a lot of things on my phone and I saw a lot of horrible words against my family for example.
"After that, I said to myself, 'Enough is enough, I have to try something', to take action against racism and online abuse.
"I am proud because the club is doing that, they are helping us a lot and I will never stop my fight against racism."
