Police recover decomposed bodies of 3 kidnapped Uniport students killed and buried in shallow grave, arrest three suspects (photos)

The decompossed bodies of three Uniport students abducted and killed by kidnap gang, have been recovered from a shallow grave in Etoo, Eleme Local Government area of Rivers state.

 

The Anti-Cultism Unit of Rivers State police command also arrested members of a kidnap gang who abducted and killed the students.

 

It was gathered that the undergraduates, Joy Adoki, Nelson Nwafor and Fortune Obimba were kidnapped on April 7, 2020.

 



 

One of the suspects, Friday Akpan, who spoke to newsmen, said they abducted the victims on the order of one Bright, who told them that the victims betrayed him after money was paid into the account of one of them.

 

The arrested suspect confessed that they killed and buried the three undergraduates after raping the female among them, Joy Adoki.

 



 

Briefing newsmen, the spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), disclosed that the Anti-Cultism Unit led by its commander, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Collins Shadar, swung into action after a case of kidnap of the three undergraduates was reported to the unit.

 

Omoni stated that following discreet investigation by the unit led by CSP Shadar, the suspects were arrested and one of them led the police to the place where the undergraduates were killed and buried.

 

The PPRO stated that an AK 47 rifle, pistol, three magazines, 72 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

 



 

The decomposed bodies of the victims were exhumed by the police while investigation is ongoing.

A Twitter user, King Tunde @iamwytunes has shared more photos of the young lady identified as Joy Adoki, a UNIPORT student who was murdered alongside other two guys.

This young lady, Adoki Joy, 400l student of Mgr dept UNIPORT was declared missing last month was found dead.

The suspect, Friday AKpan confessed to the killing.

He confessed to the police that he raped and killed her alongside two others. He then buried them in a shallow grave.

Three 400 level students of the University of Port harcourt were killed and kidnapped by a group of cultists in Rivers, Port Harcourt.
 
The late undergraduates, Joy Adoki, Nelson Nwafor and Fortune Obimba, were declared missing by the police on April 19 after Adoki’s brother, Umor, filed a compliant at Eleme Police Division.
 
It was gathered that the victims were kidnapped on April 7, on the order of one Bright, who told the kidnappers that the victims betrayed him after money was paid into the account of one of them.
 
According to reports, days after they disappeared, the kidnappers contacted their families and demanded ransom which the families paid. However, despite the payment, the kidnappers failed to release the students as promised, but instead killed and buried them .
 
After investigation, the Anti-Cultism Unit of Rivers State police command arrested Bright alias Nelly, who also led investigators to Friday Akpan and Emmanuel both resident in Eteo, Eleme.
 
Friday Akpan confessed that he and his group members killed and buried the three undergraduates after raping the female among them, Joy Adoki.
 

 
He also took policemen to a shallow grave in Etoo, Eleme Local Government area of Rivers state, where the decomposed bodies of the victims were recovered.

Buhari Mourns The 3 UNIPORT Students, Directs More Intense Police Action


President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the families of three University of Port Harcourt students reportedly murdered by their kidnappers and their bodies buried in a shallow grave in April.

The President also extended condolences to the university authorities and the Rivers State Government over the unfortunate incident.

Describing the tragic occurrence as “sad and heinous,” President Buhari regretted that the “evil perpetrators have cut short the prospectively bright journey of these youths.”

He prayed that God will comfort all those who mourn these young students, and grant their souls eternal rest.

President Buhari, while noting that the Nigerian Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit has apprehended one of the suspected perpetrators, further directs the Police Authorities to intensify search for the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.

According to the President, “This administration will continue to equip the law enforcement and security agencies to bring to an end the evil activities of kidnappers in the country.”

I killed them because of N4m - Leader of kidnapping gang that killed three UNIPORT, RSU students tells police (photos)






The Rivers state police command has paraded five suspected killers of three University students in the state.
 
Recall that on May 1, LIB shared the story of how the Anti-cultism unit of Rivers State police command, arrested members of a kidnapping gang who abducted and killed three students - Nelson Nwafor and Fortune Obemba, both students of the Rivers State University, RSU;  and Joy Adoki, a student of Management Science in the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT.
 

 
The undergraduates were kidnapped on April 7 2020. After an extensive investigation, the suspects were arrested and one of them led security operatives to the shallow grave where the three students were buried.
 

 
Briefing journalists at the police headquaters in Port Harcourt, Commissioner of police, Joseph Gobum Mukan said the three victims were kidnapped at Choba.
 
Mukan said one AK-47, three magazines and 72 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the kidnappers.
 

 
Leader of the gang, Bright Iheachi, who led police to the arrest of other gang members, said he ordered the killing because one of the victims ran away with his N4 million. He said the initial target was Nelson Nwafor who he claims betrayed him and fled to Ghana with his N4 million share of an undisclosed deal they struck last year.
 
He said he organized for Nelson to be kidnapped. However, on the day of the abduction, Nelson was with Fortune and Joy who were then abducted along with him. 

“I was the person that ordered my colleagues to kill the three of them, but it was Nelson that I had wanted them to kill, but I later changed my mind and decided that the three of them be killed” he said.

 
Mr Bright Obemba, the distraught father of late Fortune, said the boy was his only son. He said no amount of money given to him would bring back his son.
 
President Buhari has since condemned the attack and has ordered that justice must be served.
