Buhari Has Failed Nigeria – Northern Elders Forum
#1
Quote:The Professor Ango Abdullahi- led Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has risen from its meeting in Zaria on Sunday with a verdict that President Muhammadu Buhari has failed Nigeria.

It said Buhari has failed to tackle insecurity and improve the economy.

The forum lamented that the Buhari -led government appeared helpless in finding solutions to insecurity as well as poverty in the country.

Addressing Journalists shortly after the meeting convened by the chairman of the forum, Professor Ango Abdullahi, the forum’s Director, Advocacy and Engagements of NEF, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmad, said poverty, particularly in the North and massive social security have worsened under Buhari’s administration.

In attendance at the meeting were: Abdullahi, former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alamin Daggash (retd); Secretary of the Coalition of Northern Groups, Abdullahi Usman and Ambassador Yahaya Kwande; Deputy National Chairman of NEF, Alhaji Bello Kirfi (Wazirin Bauchi), DIG Labaran Wurno, Alhaji Yakubu Shehu and former MD, defunct Bank of the North, Hajiya Amina Yahaya, among others.

Baba-Ahmed stated categorically that NEF had before the 2019 elections warned Nigerians that Buhari lacked the will, competence and commitment to lead the country into a secure and prosperous future.

While noting that the relationship between insecurity and poverty is fundamental, the Northern Elders said, the current administration does not appear to have any idea on what will provide relief or solution.

Speaking on the 2023 Presidential election, the Forum said the north will only support candidate who can find solutions to problems bedevilling the region.

According to Dr. Baba-Ahmed: “Northern Elders Forum has refrained from comments on major developments relating to management of national security and governance because it is convinced that these are times which require the highest levels of responsibility and circumspection in the manner elders and leaders in the nation contribute to the search for solutions to the multiple problems which face the nation.

“It has become necessary and appropriate, however, to make public, the position of the Forum on important matters that affect the manner Nigerians live, and the future we must address.

“The Forum regrets that by any standard of judgement, the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed the nation in the vital area of improving its security. Poverty, particularly in the North, and massive social security have worsened under this administration. The relationship between insecurity and poverty is fundamental, but the administration does not appear to have any idea on what will provide relief or solution.

“It gives the Forum no pleasure to say that it had warned Nigerians that President Buhari lacked the will, the competence and commitment to lead it into a secure and prosperous future before the 2019 elections.

“It is shocking that in spite of unprecedented consensus among Nigerians that the administration requires a new resolve, approach and leadership in the fight against the nation’s multiple security challenges, President Buhari appears either totally isolated or in deep denial over the result of his failures to secure Nigerians.

“With this type of mind set, it is difficult to see how President Buhari can accept the challenge to radically improve his handling of our security situation. Nonetheless, we believe that Nigerians must continue to raise our voices and organize through all legitimate means to demand that the administration addresses major failings in his perception of our situation and his response to our demands for our rights to security.

Presidency fires back at Northern Elders Forum over verdict on Buhari, says it is a "quasi-organization with no credible membership"

[Image: 5e4100407e8e2.jpg]

The Presidency has fired back at the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) after it alleged that ”poverty, particularly in the North and massive social security have worsened under Buhari’s administration.”

Addressing newsmen at the end of a meeting convened by its chairman and former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Prof. Ango Abdullahi, the group said it is difficult to see how ''Buhari can accept the challenge to radically improve his handling of our security situation and also improve the lives of Nigerians.''

The statement read in parts;

Quote:“It has become necessary and appropriate, however, to make public, the position of the forum on important matters that affect the manner Nigerians live, and the future we must address.

“The forum regrets that by any standard of judgement, the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed the nation in the vital area of improving its security.

“The relationship between insecurity and poverty is fundamental, but the administration does not appear to have any idea on what will provide relief or solution.

"It is difficult to see how Buhari can accept the challenge to radically improve his handling of our security situation.
"There should be a thorough overhaul of the leadership of our security and public safety agencies, and the injection of higher levels of competence, integrity and accountability in the manner our troops and the police and security agencies deal with security challenges”

On 2023 election, the group stated;

Quote:"The north knows its interests, and will stand together to elect only persons who meet the standards and interests of the people of the North.
“No politician should assume that they are entitled to our support unless they show a clear understanding and a commitment to deal with our problems and meet our aspirations."

President Buhari's spokesperson, Femi Adesina who reacted to the Forum's verdict on the Buhari-led administration stated that the NEF is just Ango Abdullahi. According to him, the group cannot boast of credible membership and its leader is akin to a General without troops.

Femi Adesina said;

Quote:”Prof. Ango Abdullahi on Sunday signed a long-winding statement on many issues relating to the North, and purportedly to the country.
”The former vice chancellor signed the statement under the banner of Northern Elders Forum (NEF). Hearing that title, you would think the body was a conglomeration of true elders.

”But the truth is that NEF is just Ango Abdullahi, and Ango Abdullahi is NEF. It is a quasi-organisation that boasts of no credible membership, and its leader is akin to a General without troops.

”Before the 2019 presidential election, the one-man army called NEF had shown its antipathy against President Muhammadu Buhari, and its preference for another candidate. They all got beaten together.

”NEF is merely waving a flag that is at half-mast. Buhari steadily and steadfastly focuses on the task of retooling Nigeria, and discerning Nigerians know the true state of the nation.

”They don’t need a paper tiger to tell them anything."

Quote:Northern Youths Tell Buhari - Resign Now, You’re Worse Than Jonathan

The Coalition of Concerned Northern Youths, CCNY, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to honourably resign as Nigeria’s President, adding that he has failed woefully.

The Coalition, in a statement signed by its National Convener, Muhammed Ishaq and made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday, cited the President’s lack of the will power to tackle the security challenges facing the country.

This call by the youths Coalition followed a similar call by the Ango Abdullahi-led Northern Elders Forum, NEF, which had at the weekend declared the administration of President Buhari a total failure.

The group said it had warned Nigerians that Buhari has nothing to offer to them, adding that the President has failed to tackle insecurity and improve the economy.

NEF said Buhari-led government appeared helpless in finding solutions to the numerous challenges the country is faced with

The Northern youths added, “The above named coalition wishes to make its position clear regarding the insecurity problem that has been ravaging Nigeria particularly the Northern part for long.

“We, as a coalition that represents millions of youths from various nooks and crannies of Northern Nigeria, are pained by the insecurity problem that threatens to consume our region, the North.

“It is a glaring fact that security situation of Nigeria is seriously deteriorating and our agony as victims is aggravating. This lingering insecurity problem is one of the major reasons that made us to clamour for change and voted Goodluck Jonathan out in 2015.

“But instead of getting panacea for the problem, we just got respite and now the problem has been resurfacing with escalating dimension under the watch of someone that vowed to be our saviour.”

The group noted that is almost five years now and the country under the watch of Buhari is either worse than the Jonathan administration or it is no different from the previous government despte the fact that in his first term, “Buhari pledged that his government would bring an end to the national suffering inflicted by insecurity.”

“Our stance as youths and backbone four nation is that we grow tired of excuses while our lives are being taken on hourly basis.

“We cannot continue watching while our region is being turned to ashes and cemetery.

“We cannot keep mute while our futureis being punctured and fractured due to the carelessness and negligence of those that are entrusted with our protection.

“Our investigation revealed that about 80% of the victims of this insecurity are Nigerian youths particularly Northerners considering the fact that the kidnapped and the kidnappers are mostly youths, the killed and the killers are mostly youths, the soldiers on warfront and the terrorists are mostly youths also.

“It is on reliable and available records that not less than 245 persons were killed in violent attacks across Nigeriain January 2020 only.

“The Expat Insider Survey of 2019 by Inter Nations has revealed that Nigeria is the third most dangerous country in the world due to widespread insecurity and corruption.

“The aforementioned facts have irrefutably shown that Muhammadu Buhari as President of Nigeria has woefully failed to secure the lives of Nigerians due to probably lack of will, commitment or competence.

“If we did not forget, when Nigeria was boiling under Jonathan with Boko Haram massacring thousands and over runing-military barracks, almost all Nigerians believed Jonthan was not fit to rescue Nigeria and was voted out.

“Now that the same insecurity problem is replaying itself under President Muhammadu Buhari,we are left with no option than to repectfully but vehemently call on President Muhammadu Buhari to honourably resign to give room for someone who has what it takes to address the security problem that constantly turns our nation to another version of Somalia.

“The above call is made in the best interest of the nation having considered the fact that insecurity problem is caused and maintained by nothing but the failure of leadership.”
