Quote:Chartered Flight Of Naira Marley Was Approved For High Court Judge - Hadi Sirika
BREAKING: Chartered Flight Of Naira Marley Approved For High Court Judge
By Femi Osinusi On Jun 15, 2020
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Monday, said that the chartered flight which conveyed musician, Naira Marley from Lagos to Abuja, was actually approved for a Lagos high court judge, Justice Adefowope Okojie.
The minister, who stated this during the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, said the aviation authorities approved the flight on June 14 having considered the judge to be on essential duties.
According to him, he was then surprised that the flight which was to take off on June 14 and convey the judge took off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, for the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, on July 13 at 6.00 p.m.
According to him, “we wrote a letter approving the chartered flight for Justice Adefowope Okojie and we approved the flight for June 14. We were therefore surprised that the flight took off on June 13 and also surprised at the passengers.”
The minister said as of now, investigation is ongoing to know the pilot of the plane and those aviation officials who were around when the flight took off in Lagos and landed in Abuja.

Quote:FCT Will Decide Naira Marley’s Penalty – PTF
The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has expressed displeasure over Saturday eventheld in Abuja despite the ban on large gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The PUNCH reports that hip-hop artiste, Azeez Fashola, alias Naira Marley, held a concert at the Jabi Lake Mall on Saturday in contravention of the PTF directive geared towards curbing the spread of the virus.
The event, which had a lot of people in attendance, has come under intense criticisms lately.
PTF National Coordinator, Sani Aliyu, noted during a briefing on Monday that the PTF supports any sanctionagainst the musician.
Aliyu, however, stated that the Federal Capital Territory Administration will take the decision on whether to penalise the artiste or not.
He said, “With regards to the fate of Naira Marley, I believe the FCT authorities have already taken action – with regards to the chief organisers.
“But the decision on whether or not he will face penalties etc is actually a decision of the FCT authorities. The PTF will always support any measures taken against people who continue to violate the guidelines we have put in place, particularly if they are putting public health at risk.”
Also, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said the Centre has no plan to trace the attendees of the event.
Ihekweazu said, “On the plan whether we are going to track the people that came for the Naira Marley concert, no; we are a lot more important work to do than to do that but if we have a positive from that community, we have a problem. We do have a problem if we have someone that went to that gathering and turn positive. We hope that doesn’t happen.”

Linking me with Naira Marley flight is ridiculous - Fashola tells Executive Jets Services boss
Former Lagos Governor and current Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has reacted to a letter written by the Chairman of Executive Jets Services, Sam Iwuajoku, apologizing to the Federal Government after his company was banned by the Ministry of Aviation for conveying singer, Naira Marley, to Abuja from Lagos for a concert in violation of COVID-19 guidelines.
According to Fashola he has not travelled out of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, since March 22 so it is ridiculous for him to be linked with the flight that carried the singer.
On Monday, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika had announced the suspension of Executive Jets services during a Presidential Task Force briefing in Abuja, leading the chairman of the company to apologize saying he gave the approval for the flight thinking the passenger was the minister Fashola, as the flight manifesto contained the name Babatunde Fashola, not knowing that is was Naira Marley's brother who also goes by the name Babatunde Fashola.
Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, Fashola’s Special Adviser on Communications, Hakeem Bello, said,
“The attention of the Office of the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola SAN, has been drawn to a letter signed by the Chairman/CEO of Executive Jets Services Limited, Dr Sam Iwuajoku concerning a flight it operated to Abuja last weekend.
“For purposes of clarity and in order to set the records straight, the Hon. Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, has not travelled out of Abuja since March 22, 2020, when he returned there after an inspection tour of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway construction work and a visit to Lagos, before the lockdown.
“The decision of the Hon. Minister not to travel was taken in strict compliance with the Federal Government’s ban on inter-state travels as part of efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is therefore ridiculous for Dr Iwuajoku to attempt to link the Hon. Minister with any non-compliant flight.”

FCT minister to prosecute Naira Marley and others over concert
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Muhammad Bello on Tuesday June 16, announced that Naira Marley will be prosecuted alongside those who featured and entertained fun-seekers at the Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja.
In a press statement released by the Minister's Chief Press Secretary Anthony Ogunleye, Bello stated that the FCT Administration views the actions of the organisers and attendees at the concert as reckless, wicked, insensitive and utter disrespect and disregard both for the law and the wellbeing and welfare of fellow citizens.
He urged residents of the FCT to observe health guidelines outlined by authorities as he pointed out that several guidelines instituted by the FCT administration to curb the spread of Coronavirus, was violated at the drive-in concert.
Bello said;
Quote:"The FCT Administration which has a responsibility to protect the lives of the citizenry is determined to prosecute all those involved in orchestrating these infractions to the full extent of the law”.
