Breaking: Court finds Orji Uzor Kalu guilty of N7.65bn fraud
Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Lagos has found former Abia State Governor cum Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, and two others guilty of N7.65bn fraud.
Kalu’s co-defendants are his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited and Udeh Udeogu, who was Director of Finance and Accounts at the Abia State Government House during Kalu’s tenure as governor.
In an amended 39 counts charged filed before the court, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, accused the former governor and his co-defendants of conspiring and diverting N7.65bn from the coffers of the state when he held sway as Governor of the state between 1999 and 2007.
EFCC in the court papers, alleged that Kalu, used his company, Slok Nigeria Limited's account to keep a total of N7,197,871,208.7 withdrawn from the treasury of the Abia State Government and was converted into several bank drafts before they were paid into the said company’s account.
EFCC's counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), told the court that the former governor violated Section 17© of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004, and was liable to be punished under Section 16 of the same Act.
Apart from the N7.1bn, the ex-governor and the other defendants were also accused of receiving a total of N460m allegedly stolen from the Abia State Government treasury between July and December 2002.
The prosecutor said they breached Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap 77, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990.
The judgement in the case is still ongoing.

Orji Uzor Kalu Mocked By Radio Biafra London Group Members
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu
LET WHAT BEFELL ORJI UZOR KALU SERVE AS A LESSON TO OTHERS
......and as I warned them many years ago, serve the Zoo come back in shame.
I warned him when he came to see me in Kuje Prison that those illiterate unity begging Alimajiris from the desert don't love him but he wouldn't listen.
I warned him that Fulani caliphate will not rest until they conquer, subdue and enslave the entire East and West because of their sense of inferiority complex, but he wouldn't listen.
I warned him of the pathological hatred these Alimajiris have towards Biafrans (Igbos especially) because our industry and ingenuity expose their mediocrity, but he wasn't having it. He was a committed One Nigeria apologist.
I reminded him of what happened to Ken Saro Wiwa who like him believed so much in One Nigeria and ended up being killed by the same Alimajiri he served so dilligently against Biafra, but he wouldn't listen.
Today they are picking them off one after the other because they know IPOB won't fight for any Efulefu. If he had known what was to become of him, he would have done exactly what I told him during our meeting, join the nearest IPOB family and support the Biafra restoration project. Isn't it ironic the only thing that will save Orji Uzor Kalu now is the coming of Biafra. Will Dave Umahi, Okezie Ikpeazu, Willie Obiano, Rochas Okorocha learn from this?

Quote:Orji Kalu: Judgement Unfair, We'll Meet To Take A Position - Abia APC
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to Thursday’s ‘ill-advised conviction‘ of former Governor of Abia and Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, by a Lagos State High Court.
Chairman of the APC in Abia, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, said in an interview with journalists that he was disappointed and angry with the “arranged court judgment”, Igbere TV reports.
Nwankpa, who was a member of the Abia State House of Assembly when Sen. Kalu was governor, said that the judgment was not fair.
“The party will meet to take a position on the judgment but as an individual, I am very saddened by the judgment.
“I am not convinced that judgment was given,” he said, adding that the court’s verdict sustained his doubts about the integrity and objectivity of the nation’s judiciary.
Chief Nwankpa said that he never had the confidence that Sen. Kalu would get judgment, “considering the utterances of the judge.”
“I’m highly convinced that something went wrong. The judgment is not fair,” he insisted.
On his part, Maduka Okoro, the South-East Media Aide to Kalu, told newsmen that Sen. Kalu would appeal the judgment “to allow other judges and a higher court take another look at the case.”
Okoro said that Kalu was not bothered by the judgment but considered it as one of the travails that every leader must experience “before becoming what God wants him to be.”
He expressed optimism that the judgment would be reversed by a higher court, adding that Sen. Kalu would be acquitted at last.
He said that as governor, Sen. Orji Kalu administered Abia transparently and never defrauded the state.
Kalu was Abia governor from 1999 to 2007 and won election to the Senate in the 2019 election under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
