Fox News analysts complain bitterly about Obama ‘breaking norms’ by criticizing Trump - Edoman - 09-08-2018

FFormer President Barack Obama went on the campaign trail on Friday, supporting Democrats in his home state of Illinois while bashing Trump and the GOP.

Fox News analysts were not happy with the development, saying the popular former president was “breaking long-standing norms” by attacking current President Donald Trump.

Guest Mollie Hemingway of The Federalist said that Obama would activate the Conservative base.

“We’re told that Donald Trump is the only person who violates norms or does anything differently, and we do have a norm that former presidents speak well of their successors—you saw George W. Bush do that for all eight years of the Obama presidency,” she said. “People seem to be breaking a lot of norms along with President Trump.”

Charles Lane, a right-leaning Washington Post opinion columnist, suggested no one would care what Obama said unless it was about Trump.

“The Catch-22 right here for President Obama is if he were to go out on the campaign trail and not mention Donald Trump, no one would be interested,” Lane said. “So, in a way, there’s no point campaigning unless you’re going to break this long-standing norm, because it’s the only issue in the campaign.”
