Terrifying moment huge Airbus A380 DRIFTS - Edoman - 10-09-2017

Terrifying moment huge Airbus A380 DRIFTS all over the runway as it struggles to land in 20mph crosswinds at Düsseldorf airport
  • Emirates Airbus A380 was coming into land in 20mph crosswinds at Düsseldorf airport on Thursday

  • Plane spotter Marin Bogdan captured the moment a sudden gust sent it swaying down the runway

  • Pilots can be seen using the plane's huge rudder to try and wrestle back control of the huge aircraft

  • Eventually they straighten the plane out, with Mr Bogdan saying he has 'never seen anything like it'

This is the terrifying moment a huge Airbus A380 struggled to land during a powerful storm in Germany.
The 500-seat Emirates plane, the largest commercial passenger aircraft in the world, was filmed struggling as it came into land at Düsseldorf airport on Thursday.
While the aircraft's descent is relatively calm, the problems begin when the wheels touch down on the tarmac.

An Airbus A380 was coming into land yesterday at Düsseldorf airport, in north west Germany, as the pilots battled against 20mph crosswinds

While the descent goes smoothly, the 500-seat plane gets into trouble as the wheels hit the tarmac, causing it to sway violently from side to side

The video was recorded by plane spotter Martin Bogdan and uploaded to his YouTube channel
The plane comes down at an angle, and as the pilot attempts to line the aircraft up with the runway a sudden and powerful gust causes it to sway wildly.
For several moments the plane tips from one side to the other as the pilot attempts to bring the swaying under control.

Eventually the pilot brings the huge plane under control and straightens up.
When landing in strong crosswinds, pilots will typically approach the runway with the plane at an angle to counteract the effects of the wind.
Northern Germany has been battered by hurricane-strength winds in recent days as storm Xavier swept across the country, killing seven people.
The worst of the damage has been concentrated in the northeast, with trains between Berlin, Hanover, Hamburg and Keil cancelled until further notice on Friday morning, The Local reports.

Martin Bogdan, who captured the footage, said he had never seen anything quite like it despite filming thousands of A380 landings

Eventually the pilots manage to regain control and slow the plane down, with Mr Bogdan praising their 'incredible skills'
While Düsseldorf escaped the worst of the storm, wind speeds topped out at 22mph there on Thursday when the landing was filmed, according to timeanddate.com
Mr Bogdan wrote: ' I have filmed a few thousand crosswind landings at several airports in Europe within the past years, but this Airbus A380 crosswind landing was extremely hard and extraordinary.
'At first it looked like a pretty normal crosswind approach but after touchdown the pilots tried to align with the runway which looked pretty incredible.
'I have never seen such a tremendous reaction of an airplane after a touchdown. You can see that the pilots tried to align with the runway by using the tail rudder and luckily it worked out.
'This video shows the incredible skills of the pilots. Even after an unexpected wind gust after touchdown they managed to re-align with the runway. Incredible job.'
An Emirates spokesman said: 'Emirates flight EK 55 on 5 October 2017 landed safely in Dusseldorf under strong crosswind conditions. At no point was the safety of the passengers and crew on board compromised.'
