Bayern Munich football club of Germany have signed Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Douglas Costa on transfer deadline day.

Man Utd contact Pochettino to replace Solskjaer after 6-1 defeat to Tottenham

on
 October 6, 2020

Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, has contacted Mauricio Pochettino over the possibility of replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the club, the Daily Star reports.

Mauricio Pochettino is back on the Red Devils’ radar thanks to his former club Tottenham.

United suffered a 6-1 thrashing in the hands of Spurs on Sunday at Old Trafford.

The result means Solskjaer is yet to win a game at home this season, after losing Crystal Palace in their opening fixture.

Solskjaer, who led United to third place in the Premier League and the Europa League semi-final last term, has seen his side concede 11 goals in their opening three league games this campaign.

It has led to Woodward making contingency plans.
Woodward is not ready to sack the Norwegian during the current international break.

But he is a big fan of Pochettino and senior club chiefs have made contact with the Argentine’s camp.

Pochettino has been out of job since November when he was sacked by Tottenham.

The 48-year-old has turned down a number of offers since, notably from Portuguese side Benfica, and has been linked with Barcelona.

Premier League giants, Manchester City, have suffered a major transfer blow after refusing to sell defender, Eric Garcia, to Barcelona this summer.
This was disclosed by football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, on Monday night.

According to Romano, Garcia has now told Man City he will leave Etihad for Barcelona in January or next June as a free agent.

Garcia, 19, is still reluctant to discuss a new deal with Pep Guardiola’s side.

“Eric Garcia told Manchester City board that he will join Barcelona in January or next June as a free agent,” Romano tweeted.
“He won’t change his mind. Eric wants Barça as his next club.”

Kepa takes final decision on future with Chelsea

on
 October 7, 2020
[Image: E5711DE3-1958-4900-86F4-057C004773DB.jpeg]

Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga has finally decided to stay at Stamford Bridge to fight his place at the Blues.

Kepa expressed confidence that he would still turn the situation around despite Chelsea signing Edouard Mendy this summer from Rennes.

The 26-year-old, who cost Chelsea £72m when he joined the West London club from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, has been relegated to the substitutes’ bench following a series of high-profile errors.

He also lost his place to Willy Caballero towards the end of last season.

The Spaniard now faces competitions from Mendy and Cabellero under Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard’s squad.

Asked about his future at Chelsea while on international duty with Spain ahead of their friendly clash with Portugal on Wednesday night, Kepa said as quoted by Metro UK: “I feel good, strong and confident.
“Maybe it’s not the dream situation, but sometimes these things happen. I am confident I will turn my form around.

“I don’t have the feeling of being a substitute. We have three goalkeepers [at Chelsea], and the level is very high.

“He (Lampard) is the coach who chooses the eleven, and we have to try to do our best, and if we do not play, we must try as much as possible.”

He added: “In the life of the footballer there are ups and downs. My situation is not the same as last year. I only have to work and show my qualities.

“If I have the opportunity to play, I will try to take advantage of it.”

Ozil Cut From Arsenal's 25-Man Europa League Squad As Gunners Exile Continues

Mesut Ozil has been left out of Arsenal’s 25-man squad for the Europa League group stages.

Quote:Sokratis has also been left out of the squad for the group stages by Gunners manager Mikel Arteta
Mesut Ozil has been left out of Arsenal’s 25-man squad for the Europa Leaguegroup stages.

The club’s highest earning player - who pockets £350,000 ($454,000) a week - is one of two senior players who has been cut by boss Mikel Arteta, whose 25-man squad for the competition is only allowed to include 17 ‘non locally trained players’.
With 19 to choose from, however, Arteta has had to decide which two he would not involve - and Ozil, along with defender Sokratis, has been left out.

*Given the German has not played a single minute since football’s restart in June following the coronavirus enforced suspension, it is perhaps no surprise to see him axed from the squad.

Yet the fact he is the club’s highest earner still makes his omission eye-catching, especially as Arteta is expected to use the group stages of the Europa League as an opportunity to give some game time to players who have not been featuring much in the Premier League.

The decision comes just a day after Ozil publicly stated he would be willing to pay the wages of Jerry Quy, the man who has played the role of Gunnersaurus - the Arsenal mascot - for the past 27 years. Ozil’s took to social media to make the offer after it emerged that Quy had been made redundant.

“I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous and loyal mascot Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years,” said the former Real Madridstar. “As such, I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much.”

Ozil’s last appearance for Arsenal came in the win against West Ham in March, the final match before football was suspended due to the pandemic.

He has not even made a matchday squad this season, even in the Carabao Cup when Arteta has rung the changes.

When quizzed on the playmaker’s absence after the 2-0 win at Leicester last month, the Arsenal boss said: “The team is evolving, you can see the level they are achieving. This is where we are at the moment. We want to evolve more and play better and compete better.

“You can see that the players we are changing, we are using, it's very difficult every week not just for Mesut but for some other players as well to make the squad. Every week we try to pick the right players.

“It's difficult for others as well that aren't involved in the Premier League and didn't play tonight either. We have a squad of 26, 27 players at the moment and we can't give playing time to all of them.

“I understand and I respect your questions but I have to try to do my job as fair as possible. I try to select the players that are, in my opinion, in better condition.”

UEFA are due to officially announce Arsenal's 25-man squad for the Europa League group stages on Thursday morning.

Barnsley defender, Bambo Diaby banned from football for two years after prohibited fat burner Higenamine was found in his urine sample

Barnsley defender, Bambo Diaby has been banned from football for two years for breaching the Football Association's anti-doping regulations.

The UK Anti-Doping officials found traces of prohibited fat burner Higenamine in a urine sample provided by the 22-year-old following Barnsley's match against Blackburn on 23 November 2019.

The FA confirmed in a statement thay the Senegalese footballer admitted the charge but failed to establish how the substance entered his system, leading to a suspension from all football-related activity until January 16, 2022.

An FA statement read: "Bambo Diaby has been suspended from all football and football-related activity for two years following a breach of The FA's Anti-Doping Regulations.

"The Barnsley FC defender provided an in-competition urine sample to The FA and UK Anti-Doping officials on 23 November 2019 that was found to contain Higenamine once analysed.

"The World Anti-Doping Agency classifies Higenamine as a prohibited substance at all times and he was subsequently charged by The FA for a breach of its Anti-Doping Regulations.

"While Bambo Diaby admitted the charge, he did not establish how the Higenamine entered his system. As such, an independent Regulatory Commission imposed the mandatory two-year ban.

"The suspension is effective from the date of the player’s provisional suspension on 17 January 2020 and will run up to and including 16 January 2022."

Diaby, who signed for Barnsley from the Belgian club Lokeren in July 2019 and played 22 times for the club, issued a statement to fans of the Yorkshire club following his ban from football.

In his statement, he wrote: "I am devastated with the news that I have received which means I cannot return to play football until 2022.

"This has been such a long process but I had remained upbeat and inspired by the support and backing from the club.

"They supported me from day one of my charge and I am so grateful for that."

He added: "I maintain my innocence, something the FA have acknowledged themselves but I must handle this decision with my family and look forward to a brighter future."

Higenamine, a dietary supplements is used for weight loss and is classified as 'prohibited at all times' in competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has debunked report of some Super Eagles players testing positive for COVID-19 in Austria, ahead of their international friendly match against Algeria on Friday October 9.

Making a clarification on the report, the NFF said the writer misinterpreted what Coach Gernot Rohr said. It was gathered that Rohr said that four Super Eagles players had tested positive for the virus since the pandemic, but have since recovered.

The football body further disclosed that they are awaiting the result of the COVID-19 test carried out on Super Eagles players ahead of tomorrow's game.

The statement read;

Quote:News Alert.
Please discountenance any reports that some of our players tested positive to COVID 19 ahead of tomorrow's friendly game against Algeria. It is a blatant falsehood.

The writer of the story, who was not part of the press conference earlier today, totally misrepresented what Coach Rohr said that since the outbreak of the pandemic, four of our players had tested positive but were all now fully recovered from the virus and back in action. The results of the COVID 19 tests carried out on the Super Eagles ahead of tomorrow's game are still being awaited.

Oshoala Marks Her 26th Birthday By Scoring A Brace As Barca Beat Sevilla 6-0.

Asisat Oshoala gave herself an early birthday present yesterday night by scoring a brace as Barcelona beat Sevilla 6-0 to qualify for the final of the Queen's Cup.

The victory presents Barcelona with the opportunity to secure the first treble in Spanish women's football history. They won the first ever Supercopa earlier this year and were declared league champions during the lockdown and a victory against Legrono would make them Queen's Cup champions.

Frenetic start

Barcelona took control of the game from the blast of the whistle and they got an early lead when Patri recovered the ball and fed Oshoala who fired it into the goal to give Barca a 1-0 lead in the 4th minute.

The Blaugrana did not ease up the pressure and super winger, Caroline Graham Hansen put them 2-0 up on 18 minutes.

Barca hit the woodwork twice before Patri extended the lead off a corner kick on 21 minutes. Oshoala then got her second in the 38th minute to give Barca a 4-0 lead at half time.

Barca dominates

Vicky Losada came off the bench in the second half and immediately hit the woodwork as Barcelona continued to dominate the game.

Melanie Serano scored a stupendous goal straight from a corner kick in the 68th minute and Aitana sealed the victory in the 72nd minute to give Barca a 6-0 win at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

Can Nigeria get the better of Algeria in Friday’s international friendly

on
 October 9, 2020

As the international fixture between Nigeria and African Champions Algeria takes center stage, expectations and interest have been generated as both teams prepare for the Friday game.

With the Super Eagles taking on the North Africans side after losing 2-1 in the semi-finals, the Nigerian fans would be keen to watch their
team with much optimism during the 90 minutes contest.

Here comes the question: will the Super Eagles come up with a win when they square up against the talent of the Algerians?

While the Eagles camp is bubbling with high spirit, the same could be likened to that of the Algerians that possess the services of Galatasaray midfield star Sofiane Feghouli as well as former FC Porto and Saudi Arabia based star Yacine Brahimi.

The Algerian presents a tough side for the Super Eagles on Friday and this makes it an interesting contest as the game looms this weekend.

The quality the North African side possesses would be a big hurdle for the Eagles team to deal with but Nigerians as always would be
expecting nothing less than victory.

It will be a test of Gernot Rohr coaching ability as Nigeria would be boosted with the arrival of main skipper, Ahmed Musa.

With the likes of Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon and Kelechi Iheanacho, Nigeria have got the ammunition to present ahead of the Africa duel.

Rohr and his side would hope that the defenders would be at their best, even as Kevin Ufuoma Akpoguma could make his debut on Friday, after being cleared by FIFA.

Despite the pedigree of the opposition, Nigeria is very much capable of getting over the Algeria side, especially with the impressive form
of the Super Eagles side.

Despite the experience of absentees like Oghenekaro Etebo, Victor Osimhen (due to Napoli quarantine measure) and star midfield player
Wilfred Ndidi, the team can make do of other quality in the team.

The talent of the likely debutants like Frank Onyeka and Chidera Ejuke could aid the proceeding for Nigeria.

The strong defensive unit for Nigeria which comprises Semi Ajayi, Leon Balogun and Skipper William Troost-Ekong should see the
Super Eagles present a formidable defence in the friendly.

And these players are capable of holding off the threat from the Algerians with the (positive) hope for a win in the contest.

'I felt Messi's pain' - Luis Suarez opens up on bitter exit from Barcelona

Uruguay and Atletico Madrid star, Luis Suarez has opened up for the first time about his acrimonious exit from Barcelona this summer.

Suarez was forced to find a new club over the summer after new coach Ronald Norman revealed he wasn't part of his plans and Suarez believes  he deserved better treatment from his former side.

Suarez's close friend and former colleague Lionel Messi took a swipe at Barcelona over how they shoved off  Suarez out of Camp Nou, and now Suarez has commented on Messi's statement.

"You deserved a farewell that fit with who you are: one of the most important players in the history of the club. Someone who achieved great things for the team and on an individual level," Messi posted on Instagram at the time.

"You did not deserve for them to throw you out like they did. But the truth is that at this stage nothing surprises me anymore."

Suarez speaking about his Barcelona departure., said.

"I was not surprised about Messi because I know him too well, I knew the pain he felt, as I did," Suarez said after scoring in Uruguay's 2-1 win against Chile on Thursday.

"He felt they kicked me out of the club because of the forms. There were other ways to do things correctly with me. They were six long years and that bothered him too. I see him as a friend and he knows how badly we suffered.

"My family wanted to see me happy. There are some strange things at Barcelona like sending you to train separately because you were not considered for the game...

"Those kinds of things made me bad and my family saw me affected, so they encouraged me to take the opportunity. When Atletico came looking for me, I didn't hesitate for a single moment.

"Obviously I have to get used to various things, but I feel very happy at Atletico."
