Tottenham agree to sign Vinicius from Benfica with £36m buy option

Jose Mourinho's Tottenham have reached an agreement with Portuguese club Benfica over a season-long loan deal for Carlos Vinicius, with an option to buy him at the end of the season for £36m ($47m/€40m).
Vinicius, 25, is set to become Tottenham's sixth signing of the summer, and will be back up to centre-forward Harry Kane.
Vinicius scored 24 goals in 49 outings across all competitions after completing a €16 million (£15m/$19m) move to Benfica from Napoli in 2019.
Mourinho confirmed that Spurs were in the market for another striker after they beat Chelsea on penalties to reach the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup
"I am optimistic, but more than that the feeling that I like is that we are trying everything to do it," he told reporters.
"You succeed or you don't succeed. It's like a football match: you win or you don't win but you give everything and try everything. The transfer market is the same.
"I like the feeling that my club is trying to do everything for us and for the team, that's the most important thing for me."

[b]Cannot Tell Me This Isn't A Fix!': Man Utd Fans Fume At Champions League Draw[/b]
The Champions League draw at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, has concluded but the pick of fixtures has created much debate among fans.
Furious Manchester United have dubbed the draw as a ‘fix’ after their club found themselves in Group H alongside Paris Saint Germain and RB Leipzig.
Supporters feel United have been dealt an unfair hand as Premier League rivals Manchester City face Porto, Olympiakos and Marseille, while Jurgen Klopp’s men play Ajax, Atalanta and Midtyjlland.
United will be forced to overcome PSG in the competition once again, after providing a heroic victory over the Parisians in March 2019.
United lost 2-0 at home in the first leg but managed to create history in Paris by becoming the first side to go through after losing by a two goal margin at home in the first leg.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's will also have to beat overcome last season's semi-finalists RB Leipzig in order to progress through the competition.
Subsequently, United fans have taken to Twitter to express their outrage, with one fan saying: one said: 'Cannot tell me this isn't a fix! F**k luck of the draw.'
While another added: 'Think they're taking all these award breaks while the presenters fiddle around and fix the easiest draw for Man City!'
United supporters have even dubbed Group H as the 'group of death', with many highlighting the task at hand for Solskjaer's men.
One fan Tweeted: 'My god We're facing last seasons semi finalist and finalist before we even reach the round of 16. Group of death'.
While another emphasised the importance of buying new players, Tweeting: 'PSG, United and Leipzig so far......Spend some bloody money Ed or we're having a nightmare October. We got Chelsea and Arsenal in between these fixtures'.
Fans haven't been the only ones taking to social media to discuss the result of the draw.
Former Manchester United player Rafael Da Silva - who now plays for Instanbul Basaksehir - took to Twitter to share his delight at facing the Red Devils.
He said: 'Back to where everything start dreams come true'.
While Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois shared a Twitter exchange, highlighting the fact they will face each other in Group B for the first time in 10 years as they line up for both Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Mourinho will be hoping Vinicius can provide competition and a much-needed rotation option for Harry Kane. Previous backups such as Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen have generally failed to deliver on a consistent basis.
Kane's fitness has caused something of a scrap between Mourinho and England manager Gareth Southgate of late, though he has started the season in good form with six goals and six assists in seven appearances.
Spurs fans may be hoping Vinicius can follow in the footsteps of Raul Jimenez, who has shone in the Premier League since joining Wolvesfrom Benfica in 2018.
Serie Agiants Juventusand Interhad been linked with a move for Vinicius in recent weeks, but Tottenham have acted to make him their sixth signing of the summer transfer window.
He follows Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart to north London as Mourinho reshapes his squad.
Spurs had been hopeful of finding a deal with Juventus to sign defender Merih Demiral once Vinicius arrived, but Goal understands Juve will not allow the Turkish international to leave.
Inter defender Milan Skriniar is also of interest, though sporting director Piero Ausilio says he is not available either.
Tottenham's next fixture will be a meaningful one for Mourinho, as he returns to his former home of Old Trafford on Sunday to face Manchester Unitedin the final game before the international break.

Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi has joined Danish Superliga side, SonderjyskE as a free agent after terminating his contract with Denizlispor.
The 27-year-old central midfielder completed his medical at the club over the weekend and signed a deal for the 2020-21 season with an option to extend the deal until the end of the 2022-2023 season. He will wear the No.8 shirt for the club.

The former Lazio star was linked with a possible move to clubs in Italy before the Danish top-flight club won the race for his signature.

Salah’s goal was his 100th in English Football (98 Liverpool, 2 Chelsea) on his 177th appearance.

Villa opened scoring in the 4th minute
after Jack Grealish pounced on Adrian’s mistake and played in Watkins who made no mistake for his first Premier League goal.
In the 22 minute Watkins doubled Villa’s lead as he cut into the box from the left and bend a super finish into the top corner.
Salah reduced the deficit in the 33 minute, lashing in a lovely strike to bring the score to 2-1.
But just two minutes after Salah’s goal Villa’s two-goal cushion was restored thanks to John McGinn whose shot from outside the box was deflected in.
Watkins completed his hat-trick in the 39th minute after heading in at the back post to make it 4-1.
Ten minutes into the second half Barkley got his debut Villa goal as he curled in after a slick one-two with Grealish to make it 5-1.
Salah got is second in the 60th minute, smashing in a superb strike to pull another one back which brought the score to 5-2.
Villa continued to go for more goals and were rewarded in the 66th minute through Grealish whose shot is deflected into the back of the net off Fabinho to go 6-2 ahead.
With 15 minutes left in the game Grealish got his second of the game off McGinn’s classy through ball to make it 7-2.

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho, has said Manchester United will be bringing in “one of the top strikers in the world” if they close a deal for Edinson Cavani.
Cavani is believed to have arrived in Manchester on Sunday to undergo his medicals.
The 33-year-old Uruguyan who is a free agent, will sign a two-year deal with United to bolster their attack.
United lost 6-1 to Spurs on Sunday and when Mourinho was asked if he felt sympathy for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he argued that his successor can have no complains.

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, has blamed a loss of composure for their 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa on Sunday.
Ollie Watkins scored a hat-trick in the first half, as the Reds conceded seven goals for the first time since 1963.
The Premier League champions’ back-up goalkeeper, Adrian, had a night to forget as his mistake in passing out from the back, allowed Watkins to open scoring.
“The first goal had an impact, but it shouldn’t. Adrian made a mistake but we conceded goals like this in the past. We lost the plot then,” Klopp told Sky Sports.
“When Aston Villa won the ball, our protection was under average.”
Despite Klopp’s change of system and personnel after the break, Liverpool still could not prevent Villa from exposing their high line, as deflected goals from John McGinn, Ross Barkley and Jack Grealish’s double sealed a shock win.
“We had still good moments but our good moments led to nothing and their good moments always led to a chance or a goal.
“They were flying and we were pretty open. All the things you should not do in a football game, we did tonight,” Klopp added.
Liverpool travel to top-of-the-table Everton in the Merseyside derby after the international break.

Arsenal starlet, Bukayo Saka, has said he pledged his international allegiance to England, because he thinks “they are going to do great stuff” in the future.
Saka, speaking with Sky Sports, however wished the Nigeria national team all the best.
The versatile player has been handed call-up by Gareth Southgate for their upcoming matches against Wales, Belgium and Denmark.
The 19-year-old’s international future has been a tussle between the Three Lions and the Super Eagles, ever since he broke into the first team at the Emirates.
But Saka has now given reasons why he went with the country of his birth.
“I feel like I’m really, really proud of my Nigerian heritage.
“I always still watch Nigeria’s games where I can and I wish them all the best and support them all the way, but I’ve seen the process of how England are transforming and I think in the future they’re going to do great stuff.
“I feel like it was right for me to choose England,” he said.

Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea, has apologized to fans following their 6-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Red Devils took the lead as early as the first minute of the game at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes calmly stroked his penalty past Hugo Lloris, after Marcus Rashford was fouled in the box.
However, from that point Spurs took over and scored six times.
Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son both netted twice, while Tanguy Ndombele and Serge also got on the scoresheet.
The result means United are yet to win at home this season, after their opening day 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
De Gea, who has now conceded 11 goals this season already, wrote on his Twitter page: “We feel exactly like you. No excuses. Sorry.”

His brace takes his tally so far in the Premier League to six goals.
Son is currently joint top with Everton’s hotshot, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who netted one goal as Everton won 4-2 against Brighton on Saturday.
Jamie Vardy failed to add to his five goals, as West Ham shocked Leicester City 3-0.
Mohamed Salah’s brace took him to five goals, but it was not enough to stop Liverpool losing 7-2 at Villa Park.

Manchester United have reportedly agreed deals with experienced Uruguayan striker Edison Cavani and Portuguese club, FC Porto to sign defender Alex Telles following the 6-1 demolition at the hands of Tottenham on Sunday.
Manchester United have spent weeks pursuing Telles, who is 27-year-old left-back meant to compete with with Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams at Old Trafford.
There was a stand-off between the Portuguese club’s valuation of the player and Manchester United's valuation, but there has finally been a breakthrough in negotiations ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline, with United and Porto, agreeing on an £18million fee for Telles.
United will confirm the signin of Telles as well as former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli striker Edinson Cavani on Monday October 5. Cavani, a free agent had a medical with United on Sunday after agreeing to sign a two-year contract.
Telles and Cavani will join Donny van de Beek among the Premier League giants’ major recruits this summer.

Telles scored 13 goals and made 12 assists in all competitions last season and has already scored two goals and two assists in three Primeira Liga matches this season.
Club legend Ryan Giggs, reacting to the news, says he believes Cavani will succeed at Old Trafford.
Giggs speaking to Jonny Owen and Friends YouTube channel said: “Cavani will have no problem with the size of the club. I think he’s got the experience to handle that.
“Eyes will be on him straight away and he’ll have to hit the ground running. Pressure will be on.
“My second game [as Wales manager] was against Uruguay and Cavani scored. I was really impressed with him and his work rate.
“We have had South Americans who haven’t done anything – Falcao, Di Maria, Sanchez… but Cavani with his work rate you expect him to make an impact.
“I think United need a centre forward and needed that target man to score the goals and make that difference. Hopefully he can do that.”

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has said their 6-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, was his worst day ever at the club.
United have now lost both home fixtures in the Premier League this season, conceding nine
goals in the process.
What made the defeat to Spurs all the more painful for Solskjaer, was that he lost to his predecessor, Jose Mourinho.
Solskjaer, played for the Red Devils from 1996 to 2007 and has been manager since 2018, said he has not had a day as bad as Sunday.

“They were my team growing up. I loved watching Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke on TV. They were my idols and playing at Old Trafford has always been a dream.”
That was Odion Ighalo speaking about Manchester United in 2016.
So when the 30-year-old sealed a loan deal with the Red Devils in January 2020 and spoke of it being a “dream”, it was not the usual soundbite from a player newly unveiled at his next club.
United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, added at the time: “Odion is an experienced player. He will come in and give us an option of a different type of centre-forward for the short spell he’s staying with us.
“A great lad and very professional, he will make the most of his time here.”
Can we call his time at the club a success?
“Well, he helped the club finish third last season and scored some goals in our run-in to the semi-final of the Europa League.
“If that is success in United’s books, then he had a successful time at Old Trafford.
“Let’s not forget playing at Manchester United was his dream growing up as a kid. So putting all of that together, I will say he had a successful time at the club,” Godwin Odiko, a United fan and contributor at Goal, tells DAILY POST.
Another Red Devils supporter and ACL Sports boss, Calvin ‘Emeka Onwuka, agrees.
“He helped the team finish in the top 4, so yes it can be termed a qualified success,” Onwuka says.
Clinton McDubus, a top football analyst and podcaster, takes a slightly different look.

“I wouldn’t exactly call it a success. But it was a good spell. He hardly started games but when he did (in the cups), he was great.

McDubus is a big fan of Edinson Cavani, who is set to join Solskjaer’s squad on transfer deadline day.
Incidentally, Cavani’s arrival could signal the end for Ighalo at Old Trafford.
“Clearly the arrangement with Ighalo is coming to an end so that will be it.
“He (Ighalo) has done his bit and will leave with the best wishes of everyone at the club. Cavani.
“Everyone will be hoping he does not become Falcao MK 2,” Onwuka admits.
McDubus himself adds: “He will get to play in the cups. But that’s where it will probably end.
“I don’t see him getting any minutes in the league again once Martial’s suspension ends.”
Odiko coldly puts a time frame on it.
“I don’t see Ighalo staying any further than January 2021 when his current contract expires.”

Sancho will meet up with Gareth Southgate and his England team-mates on Monday, ahead of their games against Wales, Belgium and Denmark.
Ahead of Sancho leaving Germany for England, Dortmund chief Michael Zorc provided a final update on the 20-year-old’s future.

Genk of Belgium Paul Onuachu has been handed a late call-up for Nigeria’s friendlies against Algeria and Tunisia, reports Completesports.com.
Onuachu will take the place of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen who has been excused from the games by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The entire Napoli squad, including Osimhen will self-isolate for 14 days to guide against the spread of the virus.
Onuachu last featured for the Super Eagles in a friendly against former world champions Brazil in October, 2019.
The 26-year-old has scored seven goals for Genk in the Belgian Pro League this season.

Everton striker, Moise Kean has joined Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan after a miserable spell at the Goodison Park.
The Italian forward arrived at the Premier club during the summer of 2019 from Juventus for a fee of £27.5million and signed a five-year contract. He struggled for regular first-team opportunities under Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti, scoring just four times in 37 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees.
Kean, 20, who has been handed the No.18 shirt for PSG will bolster the club's attacking options which include Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi after the contracts of PSG strikers Edinson Cavani and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting expired at the end of last season.
"I am really proud and happy to become a Paris Saint-German player," Kean told PSG's club website.
"It is one of the best clubs in the world as shown by their Champions League campaign last season where they reached the final.
"I look forward to playing alongside some of the best players in the world."

Reports making the rounds has it that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointment US coach Randy Waldrum as the new handler of the Super Falcons, Completesports.com reports.
Waldrum will take over from Swede Thomas Dennerby who left his position as Falcons coach after the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
The 64-year-old will work with former Falcons goalkeeper Ann Chiejine, who is the first Assistant Coach.

After turning down the Falcons coaching job, Waldrum was appointed as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Panthers in December 2017.
He was head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago women’s national team between 2014 and 2016.
