MTN Nigeria has launched its first affordable smartphone powered by Kai Operating System (KaiOS).[/size]



Speaking at the launch of the smartphone in Lagos, Rahul De, chief marketing officer (CMO) of MTN Nigeria, described development as a way of making smartphones affordable in the country and to also reach more people with internet services.


“Affordability of smart phones is a major challenge in this part of the world, hence, the reason for a smart phone with so many features selling at N8,000,” he said.


“We want to bring connectivity to everybody. We believe that connectivity leads to growth in the nation’s economy. With connectivity, growth of the economy becomes faster.”


De explained further that the smartphone has undergone rigorous testing to ensure that the phone meets customers demand in terms of quality.
Explaining some of its features, Abiodun Ajayi, general manager, data and services, MTN, said the phone can last two days without charging the battery.

Other features include front and rear camera to take selfies, 2.4 inches screen size, runs on Kai Operating System, dual sim and comes with pre-installed Apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, FM radio and Google Maps for navigation.
The phone is currently at every MTN store nationwide and sells for N8,000.
