FAAN withdraws services from Warri, Gombe, MMA2, as Arik suspends flights - Edoman - 12-13-2018

Lagos— Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has notified airlines of the withdrawal of its services to Osubi Airport, Warri; Gombe Airport and Murtala Muhammed Airport 2, MMA2, over alleged indebtedness.

Arik Air’s Communications Manager, Mr Adebanji Ola, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Lagos, weekend.
He said: “In a Notice To Airmen, NOTAM, issued on December 8, FAAN stated that it will be withdrawing aviation security, fire fighting and rescue operations from Osubi, Gombe and MMA2 from midnight of December 9.
“Consequently, Arik Air will be suspending its flights to Osubi Airport, Gombe Airport and move Port Harcourt flights out of MMA2 from December 10, until further notice.”
He advised Warri passengers to use Benin Airport as alternate, while Gombe passengers are to use Bauchi Airport as alternate.
“All Arik Air flights to Port Harcourt Airport, Omagwa, will from the same date operate from Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal One, otherwise known as General Aviation Terminal, GAT.
“Arik Air regrets any inconvenience the closure of the three airports may cause its esteemed customers.
“The airline hopes the issue between FAAN and the airport authorities will be resolved soonest,” he said.

Updated: FAAN withdraws security, fire services to airports over N808 million debt
  • as Arik diverts Osubi, Gombe flights

SECURITY and fire fighting and rescue operations at the Bebi , Gombe, Kebbi Airports has been withdrawn from today, midnight of Sunday, December 9, 2018 over N808,610, 160 million debt owed the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) .
Nigerianflightdeck.com investigation shows, Gombe is owing N607, 289, 972 while Kebbi owes N124, 547, 240 and Bebi Airstrip owes N76,772, 948 all accumulating to over N808 million debt that caused the airport authority to take action to recover some of these monies.
FAAN on Saturday notified airlines of the withdrawal of services to Osubi Airport, Warri, Gombe Airport and Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in a Notice To Airmen (NOTAM) issued .
By law FAAN is the agency mandated to provide security and fire cover around airports, private and government owed for the Civil Aviation Authority to certify the aerodrome operations worthy.
Meanwhile, Arik Air in a statement issued by PR & Communications Manager, Adebanji Ola on Saturday explained that it will be suspending its flights to Osubi Airport, Gombe Airport and move Port Harcourt flights out of MMA2 from Monday, December 10, 2018 until further notice.
Warri passengers are advised to use Benin Airport as alternate while Gombe passengers are to use Bauchi Airport as alternate.
All Arik Air flights to Omagwa Airport Port Harcourt will as from the same date operate from Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal One otherwise known as General Aviation Terminal (GAT).
Arik Air regrets any inconvenience the closure of the three airports may cause its esteemed customers.
The airline hopes the issue between FAAN and the airport authorities will be resolved soonest.
