Four killed, many injured as herdsmen attack Enugu community

At least four persons have reportedly been hacked to death by suspected herdsmen in two villages in the Nimbo community, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The incident reportedly took place around 2 am on Monday, July 26, when people were still asleep.

Several persons were said to be severely injured in the attack with about ten persons reported missing.

It was gathered that trouble started when herders were stopped from grazing their cattle in the farm settlement in the area on Sunday afternoon, leading to heated arguments between the farmers and the herders.

It was further learned the farmers later chased the herders and their cattle in order to avoid further destruction of their crops.

According to The Nation, the herders later re-grouped and launched a revenge attack on the community, killing no less than four persons in the early hours of Monday.

A village source, who identified himself simply as Stephen, told the publication that the villagers were still searching for about 10 people missings after the attack.

Stephen said: “Our people were in their houses Sunday afternoon when some people ran back to inform them that some herders came with their cattle to graze in their farm settlement. But our people went there to ask them to leave because they had already destroyed some crops in the farms.

“In the course of this interruption, a heated argument ensued that led our people to chase them away from the settlement. Remember that herdsmen killed our people in 2016 when they invaded this community. So, our people didn’t expect anything since they have left in peace.

“Unfortunately this morning they invaded the community and killed more than four people. The number could rise because we are still searching for 10 of our people. We also don’t know how many will survive in the hospital.”

Stephen disclosed three people who were seriously wounded have been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Quote:Two Nigerian Army personnel, Bello Abubakar and Oyediran Adedotun, have been abducted by bandits on Maiduguri-Damaturu highway, in the Goni Masari area of Borno.

The soldiers were kidnapped while travelling to Kano, in a civilian vehicle around 5:07 pm on Saturday, according to a wireless message sent by 29 Task Force Brigade and seen by PeoplesGazette.

It was learnt that the passengers in the vehicle that observed the driver’s suspicious behaviour and his familiarity with the bandits alerted the army base in Mainok.

However, the troops from the 134 special forces battalion led by the commanding officer were mobilised to the scene, but the bandits had fled the area.

“The soldiers were on pass when the incident occurred. Liaison with Sect 2 MIB revealed that a SAR operation is being conducted while the driver of the bus in which the soldiers were travelling is suspected to be a prime suspect in the incident due to some indicators. He has been arrested by troops and is undergoing investigation,” the army document stated.

The troops that dominated the Mada/Matari area with no further contact, also arrested the driver and seized the vehicle immediately.

The army has been unable to know the whereabouts of the soldiers and other passengers, while one Mr Abubakar’s identity card and wallet were found in the vehicle.

Sunday Igboho, Nnamdi Kanu not Nigeria’s problem’ — Pastor Tunde Bakare condemns clampdown on agitators

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the general overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, has condemned the clampdown on self-determination agitators, Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho in the country.

He said the agitations of Sunday Adeyemo, a Yoruba nation agitator and Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), started agitations as a result of ''lack of justice and equity.''

“I don’t support any act of violence, taking up arms against the country and killing people. Those are in the realm of criminality and anybody doing that must be brought to book,” Bakare said in his Sunday service sermon on June 25, 2021, according to ThisDay newspapers...

“However, we must realise that what has given rise to the agitation is lack of justice and equity. When there is justice, when there is equity, agitation will die down. How can you be expending so much energy on Igboho and Kanu? Igboho and Kanu are not Nigeria’s problems. Nigeria must restructure and no one can stop that,” he declared.

Kanu was arrested on June 25 and extradited to Nigeria to face trial for treasonable felony while Igboho was arrested with his wife at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, Benin Republic.

IPOB members protest at Federal High Court Abuja, demand release of their leader Nnamdi Kanu (video)

IPOB members have protested at the Federal High Court, demanding the release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The protest began after Justice Binta Nyakk adjourned hearing in his trial after the DSS failed to produce him in court.

One of the protesting IPOB members, who spoke to the Cable, said they were against the perceived marginalization of Igbos in Nigeria. He said ;

Quote:''We are here because of our leader, to know what is going on. What we want is that they should free our leader so they go on with his normal life like every other person because he is not a criminal, because we have not seen him with any gun or bullet.
If you are talking about Nigeria, yes we feel like being with Nigeria but Nigeria is not giving us the space to be with them. So as you reject us a people, then we have to fimd our way because he that is rejected will not reject himself.''

Amnesty International condemns selection of 10 media organizations to cover Nnamdi Kanu’s trial

International Human Rights Group, Amnesty International (AI) has condemned the Federal Government's selection of only 10 media organizations to cover the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The federal high court in Abuja, in a letter dated July 23, said only a few listed journalists will be allowed to enter the court premises for the trial today, and listed 10 media organizations. Read HERE

Journalists whose names were not on the prepared list were not allowed near the court premises on Monday.

Amnesty International took to Twitter on Monday July 26 to condemn the decision.

Quote:“Amnesty International condemns Nigerian authorities’ restriction of the number of journalists that can report the trial of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, which started today in Abuja,”

“Selecting few journalists to cover the trial is a restriction on access to information and an attempt to deny people the right to know. It also violates all fair hearing guarantees.

“We call on the Nigerian authorities to respect the right to fair hearing and immediately lift the restriction and allow the media unhindered access to the court to do their job. This is yet another bizarre and unacceptable attack on the Nigerian media that must not stand.” the statement reads.

In June, Kanu was arrested and extradited to Nigeria to face trial after jumping bail in 2017.

The IPOB leader is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony brought against him by the federal government for his campaign for a “Republic of Biafra”.

The trial has now been postponed by the court after the Department of State Services(DSS) failed to provide him at court for hearing today.

Court orders DSS to release #BuhariMustGo protesters arrested at Dunamis church

The federal high court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to release the five protesters who were arrested at Dunamis International Gospel Centre for allegedly wearing #BuhariMustGo t-shirts.

The applicants, Ben Manasseh, Anene Udoka, Henry Nwodo, Emmanuel Larry, and Samuel Gabriel Iwatonaiye, filed their separate suits at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The DSS had arrested the protesters on July 4 at the church premises in Abuja for allegedly wearing #BuhariMustGo branded shirts.

On Monday, July 26, Justice Anwuli Chikere ordered that the SSS should release the applicants following separate ex parte applications filed on their behalf by their lawyer, Tope Temokun.

They had sued the SSS, President Muhammadu Buhari, the church’s pastor-in-charge, Pastor Paul Enenche, and others for alleged unlawful arrest and detention.

The plaintiffs, who urged the court to declare their arrest and detention unlawful, also asked the court to award N10 million, each, in damages, for the violation of their fundamental rights.

Mr. Temokun had argued in separate suits that his clients were entitled to the fundamental right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, right to freedom of expression and the press, right to freedom from discrimination, and right to personal liberty.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/631/2021, FHC/ABJ/CS/636/2021, FHC/ABJ/CS/637/2021, FHC/ABJ/CS/638/2021, and FHC/ABJ/CS/639/2021 respectively, Temokun argued that the arrest of his clients is a violation of sections 35, 38, 39 and 42 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and under articles 1, 2, 6, 8 and 9 of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights Ratification and Enforcement.

The judge, in his ruling, ordered that the DSS should release the applicants with immediate effect.

The court adjourned till August 2 for trial.

Kidnappers Collecting Ransom With Their Bank Accounts In Abuja
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Kidnappers In FCT Begin Collection Of Ransom Through Banks

Adewuyi’s husband paid N500,000 into an Access Bank account with number 1403762272 and the name Badawi Abba Enterprise...

Kidnappers operating in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are becoming more daring by the day as they have started collecting ransom from their victims via bank accounts contrary to their usual style of receiving cash, Daily Trust reports.

Last week alone, Daily Trust reported two kidnap operations by armed men on Tungan Maje community in the outskirts of the city. The marauders returned to the community, on Wednesday, after they had abducted 6 persons from the area a day earlier.

Other FCT suburbs such as Kuje, Bwari and Abaji have experienced staggered spikes in incidences in the last few months.

While such kidnappers usually release their victims after collecting cash payments, a new trend suggests that they are devising new means of getting the ransom.

Some Nigerians have complained of how banks make it difficult to retrieve information about criminals who defraud unsuspecting members of the public using bank accounts.

Hamisu Ibrahim, an Abuja resident, recalled how ‘bureaucracies’ in the bank made him lose money to a criminal group after he was made to make payment.

A financial fraud expert, Umar Yakubu, said detecting criminals who follow formal financial systems is an easy thing to do, except if the will is lacking.

‘How kidnappers made us pay to bank’

Kidnappers on Wednesday, June 16, picked up their victims, Mrs Aminat Adewuyi and four others at Madalla junction when going on shopping to the popular Ibrahim Babangida Market in Suleja, Niger State.

Daily Trust reliably gathered that the victims’ relatives paid ransom money ranging between N500,000 and N1,000,000 to a designated bank account provided by the kidnappers before they secured their freedom.

A brother of Mrs Adewuyi, who did not want his name in print, said while negotiating with them the criminals initially demanded N5 million from each of their victims.

The kidnappers later agreed to collect N500,000 from Adewuyi’s relatives after two days and much pleas.

The negotiator said the criminals threatened to slaughter the woman if the ransom was not paid within 48 hours and insisted that they preferred collecting the ransom via bank than the usual cash.

The ransom payment slip, a copy of which was obtained by Daily Trust showed that Adewuyi’s husband paid N500,000 into an Access Bank account with number 1403762272 and the name Badawi Abba Enterprise.

Narrating her ordeal and how it happened to Daily Trust, Adewuyi said, “We boarded a bus at a junction opposite SARCO filling station, near the popular NYSC junction in Kubwa when going to Suleja Market.

“Majority of the passengers in the bus alighted at Zuba. The driver wanted to drop off the remaining few passengers also but he managed to take us to Madalla junction – the road that leads to Dakwa.

“But when we got to Madalla junction, the driver said we should board another vehicle going to Suleja. The remaining five of us (women) stop a vehicle calling “Suleja! Suleja!!” and the bus driver settled him and we left.

“Immediately we entered, the driver ‘centrally locked’ all the doors and wound up all the windows. It was that time we knew that all the glasses were tinted. Four of us sat at the back seat, one sat together with a man in front including the driver.

“When they finished whining up the glasses, they brought out guns, knives and bottles of coke, saying we should cooperate. They ordered us to drink the coke mixed with codeine but I insisted I wouldn’t.

“The man in front raised a knife and gave me only codeine to drink but I pretended as if I had taken it. He could not do anything with his weapon because it was so tight in the vehicle.

“Some of the victims who took the coke had started sleeping before we reached the bush where they took us to.

“Despite the fact that I didn’t sleep, I can’t recognise where they took us to. I only know that the vehicle that conveyed us turned left immediately after Kwata (the popular place they are selling meat) before Suleja. Kwata is after Kwankwashe.

“Our vehicle drove into the bush and when it couldn’t go further, because the remaining road was a pathway, three persons that had already been waiting for them with bikes, conveyed us with their bikes into the deep bush.

“There was only one house in that bush. They kept us there and they were giving us bread and sachet water. One of us was released that same day because she had money in her account and transferred it to them immediately, we got there.

“They were already sharpening their knives to slaughter me after two days when they couldn’t get an alert from my husband. It was only God that saved me that day.”

Adewuyi’s husband, at the time, said he had formally reported the matter at the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Nigerian Police in Jabi.

When contacted, the Spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, ASP Mariam Yusuf, said the command has deployed overt and covert strategies to checkmate criminality within FCT including special Anti-Kidnapping operations.

Banditry in Northwest has the potential to swallow the region and the country - Governor Matawalle warns

Governor Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has warned that banditry ravaging the Northwestern region of Nigeria can swallow the entire country if efforts are not made now to tackle it.

The governor issued the warning while presenting a lead paper entitled “The Fight Against Banditry in Northwest Nigeria: Challenges and Solutions” during the inauguration of the new executives of Arewa Media Writers’ Association held at Kabir Gymnasium in Kaduna state over the weekend.

Represented by his Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, the Governor said

Quote:“When I assumed office on May 29, 2019, Zamfara State had already been mired in a serious security crisis for over a decade, marked by banditry, livestock rustling, kidnapping, and a host of other crimes. On an almost daily basis, the state was in the news for bloodletting, fire, pillage, and significant displacement of people, particularly those living in rural areas.

The historical, economic, social and cultural ties between the dominant communities of Fulani and Hausa were ruptured; farming activities across the state were halted, and commercial activities were crippled.

With poverty on the increase and food security seriously affected by the crisis, the state was on the verge of a catastrophic social eruption capable of destabilising our communities and the Northwest sub-region.

Rural banditry in Zamfara and other parts of the North, in my opinion, is as a result of the progressive degradation of our moral standards and a culture of greed fed by an unfettered need for material goods.

The North lacks responsible leadership to steer it through our time’s uncharted waters. Our ruling elite have no vision for the region beyond gaining political power. We have all seen how the elite in the Southeast and Southwest respond in unison to all matters concerning their regions’ development.

We have seen how they have a defined agenda and are relentless in their pursuit of regional development.

Unless we wake up to the situation, the war against banditry in the Northwest will remain a significant security challenge that has the potential to swallow the region and the country. The destruction that banditry is wreaking on the region’s people and the economy is unfathomable”

Kaduna Baptist conference has said that bandits promised to release abducted Bethel Baptist High School students in batches.

Ishaya Jangado, president of Kaduna Baptist Conference who disclosed this after 28 students were released by the bandits over the weekend, appealed to parents whose kids were not among those released to exercise patience.

Jangado said;

Quote:“I have been talking with the bandits and they told me that the children would be released in batches and they have released the first batch of 28.
“I appealed to parents whose children are not among the first batch not to despair as they will be released too by the grace of God. If your child is not among those released don’t be disappointed, let’s keep praying.”

Isreal Akanji, president of the Nigerian Baptist Convention also revealed that the church did not pay any ransom to the bandits.

Akanji said;

Quote:"A  lot of efforts were made to ensure the release of the students. The number one effort was prayers, we prayed and prayed.

“We spoke to security agents, we spoke to the governor of Kaduna state and he promised that he was going to do his best to ensure the release of the children.

“We have waited, it is about three weeks now and finally we are grateful that we have this batch that has come.
“All together we have received 34 students out of the 121. We are still expecting 87 who have not come back yet.

“The children were just released by the people who abducted them. They kept them in a place and they called us and we went and carried them in our vehicles and brought them.

“Our prayer is that they will release the remaining students.

“I don’t know where you got your information. I have heard a lot of information in the media. Some said we paid N60 million, some said we paid N100m."

Worried by the gale of the kidnap of their members across the State, the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, (PSN), has threatened to withdraw their services in Kogi State if the lives and property of their members could no longer be guaranteed in the environment they operate. In this exclusive interview with DAILY POST on Monday, the Kogi State Chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, (PSN), Dr. Lawal Mohammed speaks on the recent attack of medical practitioners in Kogi State and the kidnap of three of their members who are still in the hands of their abductors.

Excerpts…
What is your take on the recent attack and kidnap of medical practitioners in Kogi State?

It is very worrisome, I must tell you. It is a threat to every one of us and our existence. A situation where healthcare providers and their facilities are being attacked, calls for urgent attention from all the stakeholders.

Even in bad situations such as war, healthcare providers are not usually attacked. Reason being that they render services across the board
We swore to an oath to protect life. And so, we don’t have enemies. We take care of everybody, irrespective of your status in the society, whether you are a criminal or not. When even criminals are apprehended on the highway and they are being brought to the hospital, they are not being denied care even with the assumption that they are criminals. They are being attended to. So, it becomes worrisome when, we that provide essential services, especially those that deal with the survival of everyone are being attacked. It calls for urgent attention.

Recently, some of your members were kidnaped by gunmen, can you tell us about it?

Three of our members have been kidnapped and up till now, there is no headway. One is from Okene, another from Kabba and the last one is from Ajaokuta. As I speak, none of them has regained their freedom. We were able to get communication from one of the victims’ abductors, and they are asking for money.

What is the situation report from the abductors of the kidnapped victims?
They are asking for money of course. One of the abductors is asking for N30,000 000 from the family of our member from Okene. They contacted his wife and asked for N30,000 000. From the information I got from the wife, the wife asked that they should allow her to have a conversation with her husband, in other for her to be sure that her husband is alive. And from then, there is no form of communication from the kidnappers. So, this is how far we have gone.

Some news making the rounds indicated that a family of one of the kidnapped victims provided N10,000,000 but it was rejected by the kidnappers. How true is this?

I read from some online media that the family of our member from Okene agreed to pay N10,000 000 to the kidnapers which was later rejected, insisting that they must pay N30,000 000 and nothing less. That news is not true.

That information on those online media is false and should be disregarded. We have already reported the incident to the appropriate authorities. Let me quickly use this opportunity to educate us that, pharmacists and people who are involved in the pharmacy business are not rich.
.
The public should stop seeing us as being rich. We access loans from the bank. It is this money that we use to stock. And so, when you come around to attack the premises, to take away our money, or attack the individual in form of kidnapping, and asking for money, you are indirectly asking for money that has been loaned from the bank to stock. When you get this money from the operators, where do you want them to get the money to stock their various pharmaceutical stores? If they don’t have money to stock, that means there will be a shortage of drugs in circulation.

We all need drugs to survive. We need drugs to prevent illnesses. We need drugs, before, during, and after surgery. You can imagine a situation where you visit the hospital and you have been seen by the physician and the physician prescribes drugs for you to use, only for you not to get where to buy your drugs. Do you think you will get over that illness? Of course, there will be complications as a result of you not getting to treat the illness. When there are complications, it is death.

What is the next step of PSN in Kogi in line with this ugly trend?

As I said earlier, it is unfortunate. If I have to be blunt, we are under serious pressure from our members. What they are asking for is that all pharmacists, including other drug stores across Kogi State, should be shut down to register our displeasure. Of course, this is not the way out of this problem.

I also sympathize with my members that it is bad and unacceptable that this is happening to us. But then, if because of an individual who has done something wrong and you deny other people of essential service, there will be chaos in the system.

As I said earlier, you can imagine a situation where an individual was diagnosed to have cancer and the prescription has been made and is to go out to get that prescription and no drug store to access it. Then what would be the fate of this individual? Pharmacists provide 60 percent of our drug needs to the society.

The pharmacist is a healthcare provider that is easily accessible in the community.
They provide your drug needs, counseling, educate you on preventive medicines, prepare drugs that are not commercially available for your need.

These are specific preparations, for specific patients and needs. The categories of professionals who render these unique services should be respected and not to be embarrassed the way we are being embarrassed.

It is an embarrassment to us and the system. I have advised my members to remain calm as bad as the situation is. I think the government is doing something about it and I’m hopeful that his Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello will overcome these challenges for us. I believe he is working very hard tooth and nail to put this behind. He has done it before; I have confidence in him that he would do it again.

What are your appeals to the relevant authorities?
I want to appeal to the general public, not to see us as being rich. Join hands with the relevant security agencies to see how we can fight against this menace. Those people that are involved in this crime should also know that we are there to serve them and help them in their health challenges and shouldn’t see us as a soft spot or good market for their business.

Retired NEPA official asks IBEDC to disconnect house, laments high bill

Quote:A retired official of the defunct National Electric Power Authority, Sakiru Onafeko, has called for a “permanent disconnection” of power supply to his three-bedroom apartment on Molipa Estate in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Onafeko, who was the NEPA Assistant Director, Rural Electrification, Ogun State, before his retirement, lamented estimated billings given to him by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.

PUNCH Metro saw a letter dated June 22, 2021, which the retiree addressed to the IBEDC Business Manager, Fidipote, Ijebu-Ode, requesting the disconnection of his apartment.

Onafeko told our correspondent that he made the move out of frustration, adding that he lived alone and was paying between N4,000 and N6,000 since 2001 until the sudden hike in his electricity bill in June.

The retired electrical engineer said in June 2021, he was alarmed when he received a bill of over N9,000, and he decided to complain.

He told our correspondent that he was confronted with a lot of obstacles while trying to relay his complaint at the IBEDC Ibadan Garage Business Unit, Ijebu-Ode.

Onafeko, who claimed that he had never owed any bill, said he paid N5,000 out of the charges, adding that he was shocked when he was disconnected a few minutes after the payment.

He said, “When I went to see the Ibadan Garage Business Unit Manager on my June bill, he said I shouldn’t bother, that it was a result of the mandate that they were given to generate over N90m. Should I now be the one to carry the burden?

“He asked me to make a photocopy of the electricity bill and return it to him. When I went back to his office, I was told he was not around. I asked the gateman to deliver the letter on my behalf, but he said he wasn’t asked to take any letter.

“When I went back there, they said he was in a meeting at Abeokuta. I paid N5,000 out of the bill. Before I could move from their office to my shop, which is about a kilometre away, someone called me that my power had been disconnected.

“The IBEDC worker I spoke to over the phone said I was disconnected for not paying the full amount. I kept my cool.

“When I paid the balance, I took the letter (for permanent disconnection) there; the secretary refused to take it and asked me to support it with an affidavit. I went to the court, swore an affidavit and submitted the letter. I can’t afford their exorbitant bills again.”

The IBEDC’s Media Relations Officer, Busolami Tunwase, promised to investigate the incident.

She said, “Please send me the letter. I’ll call the Ijebu-Ode office to investigate the matter. IBEDC cannot bill any customer more than they are supposed to pay at any time or contrary to the NERC directive. There are procedures to solve these issues.”

Resumed Kanu trial raises anxiety in Abuja
July 26, 2021

[/url][Image: Kanus-arrest.jpg]
[url=https://thenationonlineng.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Kanus-arrest.jpg]

There is anxiety in Abuja ahead of Monday’s resumed trial of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Leader Nnamdi Kanu.

×

The apprehension was heightened by the insistence of IPOB supporters to witness the trial and the vow by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command to counter any breach of the peace at the trial venue.

At the Federal High Court (FHC) where the trial would hold, armed security operatives were yesterday sighted in and around its premises.

Kanu is on trial for treason Although the IPOB leader was granted bail  by Justice Binta Nyako in April 2017  on health grounds, he jumped the bail but was re-arrested last month by security agents in Kenya.

When he was produced in court on June 29, Justice Nyako acceded to the prosecution’s request that Kanu be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Nyako also granted an accelerated hearing in the case and rescheduled the trial, earlier fixed for October 20, to July 26 and 27.

Prior to today’s resumed hearing, there were reports that the Office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice had warned IPOB members and sympathisers to stay off the court premises.

This was however, denied by Dr. Umar Gwandu, the media aide to Justice Minister Abubakar Malami.

“I saw them (reports) also.  I was not aware of any such statement they were referring to,” Gwandu said.

At the close of work on Friday, the court’s management and relevant security agencies were said to have begun dialogue on how to avert security breach, in view of the huge interest the case has generated.

The Nation learnt that part of the security measures being put in place was to restrict human movement in and around the court premises today, including pruning the number of journalists to be allowed to cover proceedings.

FCT Police spokesman Yusuf Mariam said yesterday that the police were doing everything possible to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

She said: “There is no problem. Our officers are there to keep the city safe.”

Kanu’s Special Counsel Aloy Ejimakor   however, called on security agents not to molest supporters of his client, who might be in the court to show solidarity.

Ejimakor, in a statement on his Facebook wall yesterday, advised the IPOB leader’s supporters and the Federal Government to be guided by “the rule of law pertinent to why he (Kanu) is facing these tribulations and trials.”

He also explained that “ what is expected on Monday(today) is not a trial in terms of taking evidence but a procedural routine that  lawyers call ‘taking a plea’ or a re-arraignment on the amended charges that might be brought” by the prosecutor.

Ejimakor said: “This press statement is prompted by media reports indicating that those coming to Abuja to show solidarity with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will be harassed or even arrested by security agents.

“Let me make it clear that while I am not calling on people or Kanu’s supporters to throng Abuja for the hearing on Monday (today), it’s important to state that anybody who wishes to come is not doing anything illegal, provided such a person comes in peace.

“Kanu’s trial is an open trial, not a secret trial and he’s presumed innocent until proven guilty. Therefore, anybody wishing to be associated with his trial by being present in Abuja is protected by his constitutional right to freedom of association and movement.

“Therefore, once government recognises that the enterprise upon which Kanu is engaged is expressly recognised or protected by laws, it will see that dialogue, not trials and violence, is the only legal pathway to containing it.

“I am saying this because the same law that protects self-determination also requires the government to accommodate it. Article 1 of that Law provides that Nigeria ‘shall recognise the rights, duties, and freedoms enshrined in the Charter and shall undertake to adopt legislative or other measures to give effect to them’.

“Further, subjecting Kanu to any trial under the circumstances of his extraordinary rendition will face lots of legal challenges. Where the government missed its way is believing that it can suppress the desire for self- determination by means of punishment of some sort. History teaches that taking such a path ultimately proves fruitless,”

IPOB has however, promised decorum by its supporters that would attend the trial.

Its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said: “We will be in court tomorrow (today) for the solidarity of our Leader’s case in Abuja.

“Biafrans are advised to restrain from any indiscipline or criminal activities so that Malami and others controlling Nigeria would have nothing to hold on to kill those that would be there tomorrow.

“All roads lead to Abuja for the solidarity. Malami and others cannot use force to stop us from coming to Abuja.”

Baptist school students: Kaduna bandits collect N50m ransom, hold back 87 students

Twenty-eight students of the Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna were released on Sunday after spending 20 days in bandits’ den.

Those who regained their freedom were among the 121  students, who were abducted when bandits invaded the school on July 5.

The PUNCH gathered that the bandits released the students after collecting N50m as a ransom.

On Sunday,  there was panic among the parents of the remaining students as the Nigerian Baptist Convention said 87 schoolchildren were still with the bandits.

In Kebbi State, parents of the 83 students of the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, who were still in captivity since their abduction 40 days ago,  told The PUNCH  that their abductors were insisting on the release of their colleagues arrested by security agents.

About 136 pupils, who were abducted from an Islamic school at Tegina, Niger State in May, spent  54 days in bandits’  den on Sunday.

In Kaduna State, there were mixed reactions as bandits released 28 students of Bethel Baptist High School, Damishi in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the bandits demanded a N60m ransom, but N50m was raised by the school and some parents who contributed what they could afford.

Some parents, whose children were not released, were anxious over their safety.

A parent, whose daughter, was not released, said they were surprised that the bandits were still keeping 87 students.

He said, “The school and some parents raised N50m. Some parents contributed the amount they could afford. The bandits told the school to bring the money to a designated place. The money was taken to them. We thought they would release all the students, but we were surprised when only 28 were released. My daughter is among those still in captivity. I am praying for her safety.”

The PUNCH had on Friday reported that the bandits contacted the management of the school and demanded more food items.

Also on Friday, The PUNCH reported that the NBC had contacted some of its chapters to raise the ransom demanded by the bandits.

The President of the NBC, Rev Israel Akanji, had, in an interview with The PUNCH,  said, “We have been boxed in; we have been given no option but to look for ways to rescue the children.”

But contrary to the claim of those who said the bandits were given N50m, Akanji in an interview with journalists on Sunday said no ransom was paid by the church.

Most of the 28 students,  who regained their freedom after spending 20 agonising days in their captors’ den, looked pale, while others had rashes all over their bodies on Sunday.

At exactly 11:21am on Sunday,  the students arrived in the school premises amidst songs.

While addressing the parents, some of whom arrived at the school as early as 7am,  the Proprietor of the school, who is also the President of the Kaduna Baptist Conference, Rev. Ishaya Jangado, said the bandits stated that they would release the abducted students in batches.

Jangado, therefore, appealed to the parents to bear with the management of the school and remain calm, noting that the “good Lord who started the work, will complete it.

“God has answered our prayers. By the grace of God, I have been talking to these people (bandits) and they told me they would be releasing the children in batches. Are you getting me? They are in batches and they have released the first batch. I am trusting God that very soon again, others will come.

“So, please,  I am begging you, calm down. This good work that the Lord has started, He will complete it. We never knew we would be here today but God has proved Himself to be faithful.”

On his part, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state, Rev. John Hayab told the parents to exercise some patience as the leaders of the Baptist Church were doing everything humanly possible to see to the release of all the students.

Hayab said, “Please if your child or children are not among the first batch released, hope is not lost yet.

“We are going to celebrate the return of these children in batches. So, we are celebrating with the first 28 parents and we shall celebrate with the other ones shortly and likely even with all.

“The Lord will do it. So, please, don’t be confused and don’t say things that tomorrow, you will not like it.”

Speaking to journalists shortly after reuniting the released students with their parents, President, NBC,  Akanji,   assured parents that all the students would soon be reunited with them.

Akanji said that with the release of the students, 87 students were still in the custody of the kidnappers.

He reiterated the Church’s stance against payment of ransom to kidnappers, debunking claims that a N100m or N60m  ransom was paid before the students were set free by the bandits.

According to him, the Baptist Church as an organisation does not believe in the payment of ransom and will not pay ransom.

Akanji, however, said he would not  speak on behalf of those who “probably were involved in certain ways but as for us as a group, we do not choose ransom as an option.”

He said, “We informed the government that this thing had happened and spoke at various levels to security agents.  We spoke to the governor of the state and the governor said he was going to do his best to ensure that the children are out.

“We have waited. It’s three weeks now and finally, we are grateful that we have this batch that has come. So, know that a few came before. All together now, we have received 34 out of the 121. We are still expecting 87 to come back, who have not come back yet.”

Although three of the students had earlier been rescued, Akanji didn’t explain how he arrived at the remaining 87 students in bandits’ den.

He further stated, “I have heard a lot of information on ransom payment.  Some said we paid N60m, N100m and even after now, I don’t know what people will say.

“What we said when we came originally is that we as a church, we don’t believe in ransom and we will not pay ransom as a church because it is not right to go and pay people who have done what is wrong in order to release the children. We also believe that it is wrong to do that.

“However, you know that we are not the only ones that are concerned about the children. There are parents. There are well-wishers. There are friends and neighbours too.

“All those are struggling for the children to come out. Therefore, we cannot really restrict people from their actions in getting these children out, but as a group we do not believe in ransom paying.

“We believe that children that were taken should be brought back. Well, I cannot answer for those who probably were involved in certain ways but as for us as a group, we do not choose ransom as an option.”

According to the clergyman, the bandits used an unknown telephone number to inform those involved in negotiations to go to a particular place and pick up the 28 freed children.

Akanji said: “They(bandits) kept them in a place and we went there and found the children there and picked them in our vehicles and brought them here.”

When asked if the state Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, rendered any assistance in the release of the children,  Akanji said it was God who freed the children and not the governor as he earlier promised.

He said, “We actually expected that whatever that he was doing should have resulted in the release of these children before now. However, they were not released and we kept being agitated.

“We wanted the promise of the governor to be fulfilled earlier than it finally got fulfilled. Right now, I cannot say exactly what he has done because he himself was not ready to give us the details of what he would be doing but he said he was going to do something. Whatever it is he has done, all we know, God has released these children. We have been praying. We have been struggling and God has released them.”

A parent, Mrs Jummai Francis, whose daughter, Marvelous, was among the first batch of 28, said she was grateful to God for “He has shown His face to me.”

She said she had the belief that her daughter would arrive safely and prayed that none of the other remaining children would be harmed.

Another parent, Mr Hosea Maisamari also expressed gratitude to God, saying, “I just want to thank God for He has done it for me.”

When asked if he would still allow his daughter to complete secondary education in the school, he added that the decision would depend on the school management.

A parent, Mr Bege Danboyi, said his daughter, Louis, celebrated her birthday in the bush.

“She was to start her National Examinations Council exams on the day she and others were abducted. She celebrated her birthday on July 23 in the bush but glory to God, she is back.”

But in Kebbi State, efforts of the management and parents of the abducted students of the FGC Birnin Yauri have not yielded any results.

One of the parents, who spoke to one of our correspondents, on condition of anonymity said, “As far as we are concerned, the government attitude to rescue our children is not only lackadaisical, but a gimmick to buy time and giving us false hope.

“When a delegation of the PTA visited the governor, he told us the government was on top of the situation to rescue the children but he would not be able to disclose the strategies to us for security reasons. Since then, the state government has not taken any tangible step to return our children.

“It is true that some parents were contacted on the phone by their children, under close supervision by their kidnappers but, disappointedly, our security agencies could not track the bandits with their phone numbers.

“The voice recording of the bandits where they demanded ransom, not from the parents of the kidnapped students, but categorically from the government is in the public domain. They also demanded the release of their members in government custody.

“We are gradually running out of patience and since the government is foot-dragging on the rescue of our children, we will be left with no option but to take a bold step to rescue of our children.”

Attack insecurity, not Igboho, Kanu – Anglican Bishop blasts FG

The Bishop of Owo Anglican Diocese, Right Reverend Stephen Fagbemi, has urged the federal government to dissipate the energy being used to deal with agitators in the country on the insecurity challenges.

According to Revd Fagbemi, the inability of the federal government to tackle the insecurity situation in the country had led to agitations from some sections of the country.

The cleric stated this at the 3rd session of the 13th Synod of the Diocese of Owo, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) at the Saint Paul’s Church, Okeluse in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

He added that agitation in the South West became glaring due to the mindless killings and attacks allegedly carried out by herdsmen.

“This is why Sunday lgboho has suddenly become a household name symbolizing the aspiration of the people for freedom and deliverance from these evil people.”

While describing the attack on Sunday Igboho’s house by the DSS as disturbing, Fagbemi cautioned the federal government over unnecessary attacks.

“If only our government could exact the same efforts it used on attacking Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a. Sunday Igboho’s house and use the same intelligence and skill it used on kidnapping and bringing Nnamdi Kanu the leader of [PCB to Nigeria, on the bandits and insurgents in Nigeria, our country would have become a better place to live in.”

THEME: WALKING IN BLESSINGS

Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing (1 Peter 3:9).

Isn’t it great to know that the life of blessings is your heritage in Christ Jesus? God already blessed you beyond measure; He’s blessed you with ALL spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). According to the Scriptures, He blessed you ever before you knew Him. How gracious the Lord is!

However, it’s one thing to be called to inherit a blessing, and a completely different thing to actually walk in it. To walk in God’s blessings, you have to recognize that you’re blessed. You have to see yourself the way God sees you and call yourself what He calls you.

Whenever God looks at you, all He sees is a success, a victor, an excellent person. In 1 Peter 2:9 AMPC, He says “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

God’s Word is His Word of wisdom about your life; speak it continually.
1 Corinthians 2:12-13 says, “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak....” Your affirmation of blessings establishes them in your life. You have to declare that you’re the righteousness of God, even if you’re feeling condemned. You have to declare that you have and live in divine health, even if you’re feeling a pain in your body.

Always declare your state and estate in Christ. You’re an heir of God, and a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17). 1 Corinthians 3:21 says, “…all things are yours.” You’ve been called to a life of glory, honour, dominion and power; know it, affirm it, and walk accordingly.

CONFESSION

I’m what God says I am; He’s made me a package of divine blessings, the embodiment of the fullness of His blessings! I refuse to walk in lack, poverty, disease, or anything that’s of the devil, for I’ve been called to inherit a blessing. Therefore, I live up to my calling. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

I affirm that the Word is at work in me mightily. God’s Word has given me a mindset, and I see differently. I see from the perspective of the Word, my inheritance in Christ. My territory is enlarged!

The nations of the world are opened unto me; for the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our God, and of His Christ. Hallelujah!

I am in Christ, I reign in righteousness; thus, no weapon formed against me shall prosper. I dwell in the secret place of the most High, and function with the ability of the Spirit always.

The Lord is my source; I am highly connected. I am an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ; I am plugged to an unending supply. I refuse to think or talk lack; for I am the seed of Abraham.

I consciously take my eyes away from men, my job or business, and focus on God; for He is my source. I focus on Him and not the channels, for He’s orchestrating things to my favour and sees to it that I walk continually in abundance.

I am loaded; for all grace, every favour and earthly blessing are channeled towards me in abundance, that I may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need, be self-sufficient; possessing enough to require no aid or support, and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation.

I have unlimited access to God’s inexhaustible riches. Hallelujah! All I require are supplied; for God’s divine power has given me everything I require for life and godliness. I am plugged into a nonstop supply system. Glory to God. Hallelujah!

Single Dad Commits Suicide After Being Tricked Into Sending £500 To Woman (Pix)

Quote:CRUEL SCAM: A SINGLE dad took his own life after being tricked into sending money in an online romance scam.

Christopher Leeds transferred £500 to a woman who seemed to want a relationship, and was later found dead at home.

An inquest heard how the 43-year-old roofer started speaking to a woman, supposedly from Africa, who then started to demand cash.

Chris, from Dolgellau, Gwynedd in north west Wales, sent at least £500 for her flight to the UK, but she then started to ask for more.

Friend Gareth Evans said Chris soon realised he had been scammed but told him about another woman in Nigeria called 'Paramount'.

He gave her money too, and she was supposed to land in Britain two days before Chris' death.

Gareth said when he visited his pal he had been visibly upset, and when he returned later to check on his welfare he was dead.

Distraught family members attended the inquest into his death.

One woman told the coroner: "It was a scam. We have been through messages on his phone."

'A GENTLE SOUL'

Coroner Kate Sutherland recorded a conclusion of suicide and described the case as "truly, truly tragic".

She said: "He may well have been scammed and had been suffering from embarrassment.

"He appears to have been scammed by a person or persons purporting to be a woman or women from Africa. He was hugely impacted."

The coroner added: "He had years and years ahead of him. It presents a stark warning about the dangers out there."

Gareth, who said he knew his friend since he was a child, recalled how on the day of the tragedy a tearful Chris had told him "lots of s*** had happened with Paramount".

When Gareth returned to see if he was okay on December 5, 2020, he found Chris hanging and called for an ambulance and police.

"I said to the operator he had already gone," Gareth said in a statement read at the inquest.

Chris had been a guitarist with the group The Loaded Dice who once won a national competition to find Britain's best "live and unsigned" band.

Paying tribute to their former member, the group posted on their Facebook page: "While the band has long since gone its separate ways, we’re truly saddened to hear of the passing of former band member Christopher Leeds.

"He was a massive part of this band and all the boys are devastated by the news, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Rest easy Chris."

And an online obituary described Chris as "a loving son, brother, dad, uncle and friend".

It added: "To those close to Chris the loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind.

"A gentle soul who will be missed by so many."

I would make same comments as Bishop Kukah if I was addressing same audience - Governor Ortom slams Presidency

Governor Samuel Ortom has slammed the Presidency for tackling Catholic bishop of Sokoto diocese, Mathew Kukah over his comments about the Buhari-led administration before the US Congress.

LIB reported the Presidency had accused Kukah of trying to sow discord and strife among Nigerians following his comment of Buhari showing preference to people of his religion and worsening the rivalry between Christians and Muslims.

The Presidency had also described Kukah's claim of only Christian schools being targeted by bandits or terrorists as untrue.

Reacting to the Presidency's comment in a statement released by his media aide Terver Akase, Ortom who warned the Presidency against intimidating Nigerians who want the best for the country, stated that he would have similar things to what Kukah said if he was addressing same audience.

Stressing that the country is practicing democracy which has no room for repression and dictatorship, the Governor added that the constitution guarantees freedom of speech to all citizens, unlike a military regime which suppresses the right of the people to voice their opinions on challenges facing their country.

The statement read;

Quote:“Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom describes as unfortunate, the response of the Presidency to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matttew Kukah’s address to United States Congress Committee on Foreign Affairs regarding the wave of insecurity in the country.

“The Governor says he stands with Bishop Kukah on the issues he raised and stresses that he would have said similar things if he were to address the same audience.

“He advises the Federal Government to stop intimidating patriotic Nigerians who are raising genuine concerns over the worsening security and economic situation in the country.

“Governor Ortom states that the country is practicing democracy which has no room for repression and dictatorship. He notes that the country’s Constitution guarantees the freedom of speech to all citizens, unlike a military regime which suppresses the right of the people to voice their opinions on challenges facing their country.

“He says Bishop Kukah is one Nigerian who is selfless and speaks his mind frankly on national issues calling on the government to ensure justice, the rule of law and equity for all.

“The Governor wonders why the Presidency has chosen to politicize the views of Bishop Kukah when all the issues he highlighted in his address are facts about the country.

“He says Kukah was right when he stated that nepotism has been elevated above federal character by the present administration. He further agrees with the Bishop that Christians across the country are targets of elimination and thousands have already fallen to the sword of jihadist supremacists.

“Governor Ortom states that Kukah is not to blame for the ranking of Nigeria as the 8th least peaceful country in Africa and the rating of killer herdsmen as the 4th deadliest terror group in the world by the Global Terrorism Index.

“He expects the Presidency to rather be worried that Nigeria is ranked as the most terrorised nation in Africa with an average of over 2,000 deaths per year on account of terrorism.

“He emphasizes that the combative approach the Presidency has adopted in engaging citizens on issues will not solve the problems confronting the country.

“Governor Ortom says Bishop Kukah is not the first Nigerian to address a foreign audience on the security situation in the country. He recalls that in February, 2015 President Buhari was at the time the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, when he delivered a speech at Chatham House in London, where he stated that “Boko Haram has sadly put Nigeria on the terrorism map, killing more than 13,000 of our nationals.” The President went on to announce to the world on that occasion that apart from the civil war era, Nigeria had never been more insecure in the country’s history.

“The Governor states that if a man who was seeking to govern the country could reel out such scary statistics, why will his aides now launch media attacks on a clergyman who is only advocating peace and is drawing the attention of the global community to the plight of helpless Nigerians."

Air Peace Aircraft Tyre Bursts At Ilorin Airport

Quote:Passengers disembark as Air Peace aircraft tyre bursts at Ilorin Airport

Sixty-six passengers and six crew onboard an Air Peace aircraft from Abuja were said to have “disembarked safely” when one of the plane’s tyres blew off after landing at the Ilorin Airport in Kwara State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday at 10:30am while the B737-500 aircraft with registration number 5N-BQR was taxiing to the parking bay at the airport.

No one was reportedly injured during the incident and no life was lost.

Spokesperson for Air Peace, Stanley Olise, confirmed this to The PUNCH in a telephone chat on Saturday, adding that “as we speak, the tyre has been fixed and the aircraft has been moved from the runway.”

“Our officials reported the incident to the authorities as statutorily required,” he added.

In a follow-up statement, the airline debunked reports (not by The PUNCH) that its plane crashed at the airport.

“Our aircraft neither crashed nor crash-landed in Ilorin or in any place for that matter,” the statement partly read, adding that “Air Peace is committed to providing peaceful connectivity across cities and relentlessly observes the highest standards of safety in its operations.”

Also, the Accident Investigation Bureau, the investigating body in charge of all aviation-related accidents and incidents in Nigeria, confirmed that the incident occurred but said there was no plane crash.

AIB General Manager, Public Affairs, Tunji Oketumbi, told The PUNCH that investigators evaluated the incident and won’t be investigating it.

When asked, the AIB spokesman said, “Yes. It happened yesterday. AIB Safety investigators did an evaluation of the occurrence and decided not to investigate. The aeroplane has been released to the operator (Airpeace). The delay in opening the airport is down to the recovery of the aeroplane from the runway by FAAN (Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria) and Airpeace. The aeroplane had a burst tyre on landing.”

Recall that the tyre of an Air Peace aircraft also blew off at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja in January 2019 while it was taxiing for take-off on the runway.

The incident sent the passengers on Boeing 737 aircraft, who were heading to Benin from Abuja, into panic mode but no life was lost and no one was injured.

Suspected kidnappers kill retired Navy Captain and his aide in Plateau

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed a retired Navy Captain identified simply as Mr YY and his aide, Japheth Ajiji, in Fobur community in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State.

It was gathered that the officer had gone to the community for the Sallah festivities when he was abducted from his house with his aide by the kidnappers on Thursday, July 22.

The duo were said to have been shot dead during a scuffle between them and their abductors. Their bodies were found dumped at a nearby bush.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident of the community who confirmed the incident, said that two of the suspected kidnappers were caught and set ablaze by irate youths, leading to tension in the community.

"When those who abducted the military officer shot at him, some of the community members came out, trailed the gunmen and discovered that they were Fulani. They caught two of them and set them ablaze. So, the Fulani from the neighbouring Barkin Ladi LGA mobilised to the community, demanding justice and that is what has caused the tension.” the resident told Punch

It was further learnt that the timely arrival of the security operatives prevented the situation from escalating.

The spokesman for the State Police Command, Ubah Ogaba, confirmed the killing of the four persons.

"On 22/07/2021, the command received a report that some suspected kidnappers went into the residence of a retired military officer at Sabon Garin Fobur in Jos East LGA and kidnapped him. Unfortunately, the retired officer and one other person were killed by the hoodlums as it appeared a scuffle ensued between them," Ogaba stated.

"Meanwhile, on receipt of the report, police operatives, the Special Task Force, local vigilantes and hunters were drafted to the area for possible arrest of the suspects. In the course of the search, the police were informed that some locals apprehended three suspects; they quickly rushed to the scene where they met the natives in their numbers. All efforts made by the police to rescue the three suspects were futile.

"The police were only able to rescue one of the three suspects as the police operatives were attacked, and their vehicle was damaged. By the time further reinforcement arrived at the scene, the other two suspects were found to have been lynched by the locals. A discreet investigation is currently ongoing.” he added.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES,

 SUNDAY 25TH JULY 2021.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC: DISTRIBUTING” THE HOLY GHOST

God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? (Hebrews 2:4).

The word translated “gifts” above shouldn’t have been translated gifts, but “distributions,” because it’s the Greek “merismos.” The Douay-Rheims translation actually renders it correctly. It says, “God also bearing them witness by signs, and wonders, and divers miracles,

What does the Scripture mean by “distribution of the Holy Ghost?” What Jesus did in John 20:22 gives us an idea. The Bible says He blew on His disciples and said, “...Receive ye the Holy Ghost”(John 20:22). He “distributed” or ministered the Holy Ghost to them. Hallelujah!

We’re ministers of the New Testament, not of the letter, but of the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:6). We’re distributors and administrators of the Holy Ghost. Recall what we read in our theme verse! Who were those that performed the signs and wonders, and special miracles? It was the Apostles! God did signs, wonders, miracles, and “distributions of the Holy Ghost” through them.

The Bible says we’re stewards or ministers of the New Testament, of the mysteries of Christ (1 Corinthians 4:1). Hallelujah! We “serve” the Spirit, the blessings of the New Testament, like that waiter who serves in a restaurant. So, like Paul, you can say, “I’m a minister of the Spirit.”

You can lay hands on someone and say, “Receive the Holy Spirit” and the person will be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit from you can go into five, ten, hundred people and more. Glory to God! This is what He’s called us to do as His ministers and ambassadors; we’re bearers of the divine order. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I’m the bearer of eternal verities, a distributor and an administrator of the Holy Ghost. I’m constantly filled with the Spirit; therefore, everywhere I go, I serve the blessings of the New Testament, filling many with the Holy Ghost and converting them into the Kingdom of God. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Acts 8:14-17
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then laid they [their] hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

2 Corinthians 3:4-6
And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency [is] of God; 6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Deji Adeyanju: Tinubu Will Be Worse Than Buhari, Runs Lagos Like Pig Farm
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:2023 presidency: Tinubu’ll be worse than Buhari, runs Lagos like pig farm – Adeyanju

Popular Nigerian rights activist, Deji Adeyanju has predicted that the tenure of Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, would be worse than that of President Muhammadu Buhari, if elected as president of Nigeria in 2023.

He spoke while reacting to reports that hoodlums popularly known as Agberos rake in N125 billion annually in Lagos.

The convener of Concerned Nigerian advocacy group said Tinubu runs Lagos State like a pig farm.

In a tweet, the activist warned that Tinubu would destroy Nigeria if enthroned.

According to Adeyanju: “Tinubu will be a worse tyrant than Buhari. Look at how he runs Lagos State like a pig farm. Removed a Governor like a Council Chairman.

“He pays hoodlums a.k.a Agberos N125billion annually. That’s more than money most states get in a year.”

There are speculations that Tinubu is nursing a presidential ambition in 2023.

The APC National Leader’s campaign posters have been sighted in some states of the federation.

Despite such claims, the APC National Leader has remained silent.

He, however, denied opening a campaign headquarters in Abuja.

However, the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church leader, Primate Ayodele, had warned Tinubu against pushing for the presidency.

Primate Ayodele had pointed out that Tinubu’s tenure would be a disaster if he becomes president.

A former bank cashier, Ebenezer Adeolu Alonge alongside his wife, Isakunle Olamide Oyinlola and his mother-in-law, Isakunle Eunice Moradeke were on Friday, July 23, convicted and sentenced to Sixty (60) years imprisonment by Justice Adekanye Ogunmoye of Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti on a 12-count charge of conspiracy and stealing contrary to section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws Cap 16 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012 brought against them by the Ibadan Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Justice Ogunmoye, in his judgment, ruled that the prosecution team led by Abdulrasheed Lanre Suleiman proved their case beyond reasonable doubt and that the convicts had failed to extricate themselves from the self-evidenced proofs before the court.

EFCC, in the course of the trial, called two witnesses and tendered several exhibits to prove their case.

The convicts were found guilty on all twelve count charges and sentenced to five years on each count. The cumulative sixty years prison terms will, however, run concurrently.

A statement released by the antigraft agency says the journey to the dock started when the illicit activities of Ebenezer got exposed through a petition to the EFCC from one of the new generation banks alleging that one of her staff by the name Ebenezer Adeolu Alonge was involved in fraudulent activities. It was alleged that sometime in February 2018 the bank received a complaint concerning the financial impropriety of the sum of N62, 400.00 in respect of a customer’s account.

According to the petitioner, on February 15, 2017, a customer lodged the said sum into her account but the transaction could not be traced in the customer’s account even after the customer presented a copy of the slip signed by Alonge. The statement said in the course of the investigation, the said transaction was allegedly traced to Ebenezer Alonge’s wife's account. Further investigation, however, revealed that there was a turnover of over N21, 000,000.00 (Twenty-One Million Naira) as a deposit from other customers in his wife’s account. Also, it was alleged that other sums were traced to his mother-in-law’s account, who was also a beneficiary of the fraudulent act.

Delivering judgement on the case on Friday, July 23, the court also ordered Alonge to forfeit his house which shall be sold and the proceeds used to restitute the bank.

Gunfire breaks out at funeral for assassinated Haitian President Jovenel Moise forcing US and UN delegations to flee as his grieving widow with her arm still in a sling from the attack chokes back tears over his coffin

- President Jovenel Moise's body was laid to rest in his hometown today two weeks after his assassination
- His widow Martine arrived to cries of 'Justice! Justice!' and she headed straight to her husband's casket
- Her right arm in a sling, she lay her left on the casket, then brought it to her heart as she choked back tears.
- Unrest has gripped the Caribbean island nation since the July 7 killing which has been shrouded in mystery

The funeral for the assassinated Haitian president Jovenel Moise was marred by gunfire from protesters today after they chanted 'Justice! Justice!' amid the unrest sparked by the killing two weeks ago.

The US delegation were forced to flee as shots rang out around the former president's family home with the violent scenes that have rocked the Caribbean island for the past two weeks spilling into the ceremony today.

Widow Martine arrived to cries of 'Justice! Justice!' as she headed straight to her husband's casket, climbing the stairs and stopping in front of it. Her right arm in a sling, she lay her left arm on the casket and then brought it to her heart as she stood there in silence. Her eyes filled with tears as her three children joined her.

Minutes later, a group of supporters grabbed a large portrait of Moïse and paraded with it as the police band began to play the national anthem over loud wails.

Earlier, cries of 'Assassin!' filled the air at the arrival of Haiti's National Police Chief León Charles. Haitians clad in somber suits, shiny shoes and black and white formal dresses shouted and pointed fingers at the neighboring seating platforms where Haitian officials and foreign dignitaries sat above at least a dozen men with high-powered weapons.

'You didn't take any measures to save Jovenel! You contributed to his killing!' one woman yelled.

On the grounds below, one Moïse supporter threatened Charles: 'You need to leave now or we're going to get you after the funeral!'

Newly appointed Prime Minister Ariel Henry arrived after to cries of, 'Justice for Jovenel!'

Moise was gunned down in his home in Port-au-Prince before dawn on July 7, setting off a new political crisis in the Caribbean country that has struggled with poverty, lawlessness and instability.

Protests by angry supporters of Moise convulsed the slain leader's hometown, the northern city of Cap-Haitien, for a second successive day on Thursday as workers prepared for the funeral.

The protesters set tires on fire to block roads, while workers paved a brick road to Moise's mausoleum on a dusty plot of several acres enclosed by high walls.

Set on land held by Moise's family and where he lived as a boy, the partly built tomb stood in the shade of fruit trees, just a few steps from a mausoleum for Moise's father, who died last year. Police controlled access to the compound through a single gate.

The assassination was a reminder of the ongoing influence foreign actors have in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere despite it becoming Latin America and the Caribbean's first independent state at the start of the 19th century.

The attack was carried out by a group that included 26 Colombian former soldiers, at least six of whom had previously received U.S. military training. Haitian-Americans were also among the accused.

The attack's plotters disguised the mercenaries as U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents, a ruse that helped them enter Moise's home with no resistance from his security detail, authorities have said. At least one of the arrested men, a Haitian-American, had previously worked as an informant for the DEA.

The turmoil has pushed Haiti up Biden's foreign policy priorities and on Thursday the State Department named a special envoy for the country. Biden has rebuffed a request by Haiti's interim leaders to send troops to protect infrastructure.

Screens inside the auditorium broadcast images of Moise and his meetings with world leaders including Pope Francis, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Helen La Lime, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Haiti, was among the guests.

A former banana exporter, Moise failed to quell gang violence that surged under his watch and he faced waves of street protests over corruption allegations and his management of the economy.

However, the demonstrators in Cap-Haitien were venting anger over the many questions that remain unanswered about the assassination, including who planned it and why.

Banners celebrating Moise festooned buildings along the narrow streets of Cap-Haitien's old town, with proclamations in Creole including, 'They killed the body, but the dream will never die,' and 'Jovenel Moise - defender of the poor.'

How Kwara government canceled durbar festival over fear of Saraki

on
 July 24, 2021

The annual Ilorin Durbar festival has become a political rally point over the years, as politicians use it to test their strength in Ilorin, the state capital of Kwara State since its rejuvenation in 2018.

The Durbar festival has been cancelled by the state government, acting on intelligence report, however, according to DAILY POST findings, it was cancelled for political reasons.
Saraki has been moving across some parts of the state for a couple of days. On the July 17th, he was at Patigi where he visited the family of the Late Emir Chatta Umar and also visited the Ahman Pategi University, Patigi, which is located in Kwara North.

Kwara North will be strategic in the 2023 election, as the senatorial district has not produced a governor since the nation’s return to democracy.

The zone can either wait for governor AbdulRahman to finish his two terms, or go along with Saraki.

He was also at the house of the family of Late Balogun Alanamu, Abubakar Akanbi, where he paid condolence visit over the passing away of the Late Balogun.

People in the state see these moves by the former governor, as part of the move to regain his position as the godfather of the state.

Clashes at eid ground
The supporters of the incumbent governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasak and supporters of Bukola Saraki reportedly clashed at the EID ground on Tuesday.

According to an eyewitness account, the governor got to the prayer venue with Saraki already seated, in the course of his entrance, his supporters chanted “Sai Rahman! Sai Rahman!
After the prayer, the supporters of Saraki also chanted sai bukky, sai bukki, disrupting the sermon after the prayers. The governor at the point exited the venue.

The chief of staff to the president, Ibrahim Gambari, was also at the Eid prayer ground.

On Wednesday, the government, in a statement announced by Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Communications, Rabiat Abdulrahman, said, “some forces plan to use the boisterous nature of the cultural event to instigate a breakdown of law and order in the state, thereby complicating national security challenges.”

The government cited a police intelligence report for the reason to cancel the event.
Bashir Madandola, the Chairman of Kwara South PDP Youth Stakeholders, said the decision to ban the Durbar festival was out of fear of the repeat of what happened at the EID.

“The governor did not expect that Bukky (Bukola Saraki) would be at the Eid ground. The governor is jittery as his popularity is diminishing.

“The governor does not want himself to be faced with someone more popular than him at the Durbar festival.”
It was also alleged that the convoy of Mr Saraki and Moshood Mustapha was attacked very close to the government House.

Horse parade despite the ban
Despite the ban on horse ride parades, several horsemen staged a parade across the city, blocking major roads on Thursday.

The carriage of the Emir, Zulu Gambari was also in the midst of the parade, although DAILY POST was unable to confirm if the Emir was in the carriage.
The Durbar festival involves the display of colourful horses, as it is done in other emirates in Nigeria.

In 2019, Governor AbdulRasak was criticised for not attending the Durbar and it was also alleged that he did not support the event with cash.
Although a group, Kwara Media Forum had issued a statement by its spokesperson, Mr Rotimi Sulyman, that the governor released N10 million for the event.

COVID19 did not allow the event to hold last year, as Eid and others were restricted.

Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor did not respond to calls and text messages sent to him.

APC infighting

The governor faces another imminent threat in his party as the fight between him and the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has escalated.

Mr Lai recently claimed that he raised the entire fund for the prosecution of the elections in the state and even accused the lawmaker representing Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Isin/Irepodun federal constituency, Olatunji Raheem of embezzling over N70million of campaign funding.

Raheem in a swift reaction, debunked the allegation and claimed that Lai Mohammed “mismanaged N50million” the governor released for the 2018 bye-election.

The O To Ge movement appears to be collapsing on a daily basis, and Saraki appears to be the biggest threat to the re-election of the governor.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES,

SATURDAY 24TH JULY 2021.

 Pastor Chris

TOPIC: HE ACCOMPLISHED HIS PURPOSE ”

Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints…which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:26-27).

Let’s review three portions of scripture that refer to Jesus accomplishing His work. The first is in John 17:4, where He said to the Father, “…I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” The second occasion was on the Cross, when He said, “...It is finished...”(John 19:30).

The third one is in Hebrews 10:12-13 and states, “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.”The Lord Jesus, today, is seated and waiting until His enemies are made His footstool.

He wouldn’t be sitting if He hadn’t accomplished His purpose. But the problem has been that most people never knew what He came to do. When you read Ephesians 3:3-5, you’d discover that His real purpose for coming was a mystery.

There are many written prophesies about the Messiah and when He’d be born into this world; and He fulfilled all of the amazing things written of Him. But His purpose remained a mystery to the Prophets.

What was this mystery? It’s what we read in our opening verse: Christ IN you, the hope of glory! This is the mystery which was hidden from ages and from generations, but has now been made manifest to His saints. Glory to God!

So, there’s an assurance, a guarantee that your life is glorious, because Christ is in you! That’s your hope for a healthy, prosperous, vibrant and successful life! You have a right to walk out of any predicament; you can walk out of poverty, lack and want, because of what Christ has accomplished in your behalf. What you need is to become ever more conscious of His presence and glory in your life.

CONFESSION

The glory of God is revealed in my finances, my health, business, family and ministry. Christ in me is my hope for a healthy, prosperous, vibrant, and a successful life of dominion over Satan and circumstances. Hallelujah!

FURTHER STUDY:

Romans 8:10-11 And if Christ [be] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin; but the Spirit [is] life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Ephesians 3:3-6 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

John 10:10 AMPC The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

I affirm that this is my month of Joy! My life is a daily manifestation of the supernatural because the Spirit of God has taken His abode in the quarters of my heart. Everything about my life is infused with divinity and speaks of God’s glory. Eternal life, love, health, peace, joy, righteousness, prosperity; the Father has made all mine!

Today, I go out with joy and I am led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills break forth before me in singing, and all the trees of the field clap their hands.

I am aligned and in sync with God’s will, purpose, and direction for me. My portion (field) is blessed of the Lord, and the lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places. Hallelujah!

The Holy Spirit is alive in me; thus, I am effective, efficient, and excellent in all that I do. I am up and alive; fruitful and productive by the power of the Holy Spirit. I make great and glorious things happen in my life, in God’s kingdom, and in the lives of others, to the glory of Jesus Christ.

I am filled with the fullness of God; nothing is lacking in my life. I am from above; I refuse to condescend to this earthly plane of life. As Jesus is, so am I in this world. Hallelujah!

I am in charge; I live an exceptional great life here on earth, dominating circumstances, and living the transcendent life God had prepared for me. Glory to God. Hallelujah!

Haiti's murdered president, Jovenel Moïse laid to rest as tensions flare (photos)

Haiti's murdered president, Jovenel Moïse has been laid to rest today more than two weeks after he was assassinated in a late-night raid.

Pallbearers in military attire carried late Haitian President Jovenel Moise's body in a closed wooden coffin as his funeral got underway.

Moïse’s casket was draped with the Haitian flag and adorned with white flowers.

[Image: 58f7810452034d768c5fc674cc581e96?quality=uhq&resize=720]

The bearers placed the polished casket on a dais garlanded with flowers in an auditorium. Four stood guard as a Roman Catholic priest blessed the coffin and a Haitian flag was unfurled.

Among those in attendance were Helen La Lime, special representative of the U.N. secretary-general for Haiti. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is leading a delegation from the United States.

[Image: 358dd8c2a3a4498188933647aaf965d9?quality=uhq&resize=720]

Ahead of the funeral, there was tension in Haiti’s north, where Moïse was born as demonstrators set up roadblocks and demanded accountability for the president’s death. The Associated Press reported that one man appeared to have been shot dead Wednesday in Quartier-Morin, a commune outside Cap-Haïtien.

In the early hours of July 7, gunmen stormed into his home and shot him dead. Moïse’s widow, Martine Moïse, also sustained injuries in the attack that killed her husband.

Police have arrested more than 20 people, including two Haitian Americans and several former Colombian soldiers, but the precise motive for the killing remains unclear.

[Image: facfcc7579ce4901b45d95ed5c039d50?quality=uhq&resize=720]

The assassination also led to confusion about who would lead Haiti in the event of a president’s death, with three politicians claiming they were the rightful leader. On Tuesday, Ariel Henry was sworn in as the country’s new prime minister after interim prime minister Claude Joseph agreed to step aside.

Katsina man changes his daughter's name from "Buhariyya" to Kausar because President Buhari 'failed to fulfil election campaign promises'

One Yahuza Ibrahim Niga, who named his daughter "Buhariyya" after President Muhammadu Buhari, has changed her name to "Kausar" over what he described as "failed election campaign promises."

Speaking at the 'name-changing ceremony' held on Friday, July 23, Ibrahim from Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, said that during APC election campaign in 2015, he had promised to name his child after Buhari because he believed that the President is an honest man.

His wife, who was pregnant then eventually gave birth to a baby girl and he named her Buhariyya in honour of the President.

According to Ibrahim, he decided to change his daughter's name to Kausar because President Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, failed to fulfil the promises they made when they were seeking for votes.

Pandemonium as soldiers allegedly kill three Zaria villagers chasing bandits

There was chaos in Zaria, Kaduna State, as soldiers allegedly killed three persons who had gathered to capture bandits.

According to reports, the bandits invaded Kwanar Farakwai village, Igabi Local Council of Kaduna State, on Wednesday, July 21, in an attempt to allegedly abduct some villagers, but the youths armed with weapons chased them.

The criminals reportedly hid in a rock close to the town, and the youths, who went after them in a bid to capture them, surrounded the rock.

However, a company, which houses its staff in the area, contacted some soldiers who arrived and allegedly shot at the youths gathered at the place without asking questions, a source said to SaharaReporters.

Consequently, the villagers stormed the rock and set some parts ablaze, while demanding the arrest of the kidnappers.

A villager told the publication: "Yesterday, kidnappers entered the community, but the youths of the town stopped them from operating. When the kidnappers discovered that the youths had local guns, they ran away and hid by the rock.

"The youths went after them and surrounded the rock. But there is a company around the rock. When the company officials saw the young people gathered outside, there was tension and they immediately called the attention of the soldiers, thinking the youths were kidnappers.

"When the soldiers came, they just started shooting people. As at now, 10 people are in the hospital, three people have been killed.

"The kidnappers are still inside the rock and the people of the town said they will not leave until the soldiers arrest the kidnappers and hand them over to the villagers.

"The villagers have insisted they will remain there till their desires are granted. They (the youths) have set a part of the rock ablaze."

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES,

FRIDAY 23RD JULY 2021.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC: THE KNOWLEDGE OF “THE FATHERS”

I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning… (1 John 2:13).
The Bible says, “Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world”(Galatians 4:3).

This is referring to those who are “nēpios” (Greek), spiritual babies; they’re the ones down with the flu today, and then headaches and heart trouble tomorrow.

But you can come out of that level through knowledge. There’s a training that’s required; that training brings you into “epignosis” (Greek); the exact or precise knowledge of God, full knowledge with intimacy. It’s called the knowledge of the fathers.

In His prayer for the Church, the Apostle Paul, by the Spirit, shows us how to get this knowledge of God. He says, “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him” (Ephesians 1:17). As you meditate on the Word, secrets about the Kingdom-life and how to walk in the reality of the Word are unveiled to you. From then on, you know how to live in glory, with dominion over circumstances.

I would to God more of God’s people would come to the realization of who they are and what they have in Christ Jesus! How could you have the very life of God in you and be down with kidney problems, heart trouble, or any other kind of sickness or disease? It’s an anomaly; it’s not supposed to be.

The life in you can’t be sullied by infirmities; it’s superior to Satan and the elements of this world. Therefore, rather than be agitated when you feel the symptoms of sickness, boldly declare, “I have the life of God in me, and that life permeates my whole being and gets rid of all ailments and maladies.”

Make such declarations again and again, and soon enough, you’ll literally experience a surge of God’s power coursing through your whole being. This is how “the fathers” respond to circumstances and situations; it’s with the Word! They’re not slaves to the elements of this world; they live above them. Blessed be God!

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for your amazing blessings in my life. Thank you for giving me faith in my spirit through the Word. Thank you for bringing me into an awareness of truth, to walk in victory, glory, dominion and honour, forever, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

2 Peter 1:2
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

2 Peter 3:18
But grow in grace, and [in] the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Ephesians 4:14-15
That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ:

Two others were found unconscious in the house on Wednesday, July 21, and were rushed to the hospital.

Six policemen feared killed as gunmen attack checkpoint in Enugu

Several persons including six policemen were killed when unknown gunmen attacked a Police checkpoint in Amodu, Obeagu-Amechi in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu state.

It was gathered that the gunmen attacked the checkpoint located at Obeagu Uno shortly after Inyaba Bridge around 7:30 pm on Wednesday night, July 21.

It was further learnt that unknown number of bystanders and commuters died from stray bullets while others sustained various degrees of injuries as the police engaged the gunmen in a fierce battle.

According to eyewitnesses, the attack which started about 5:30pm at a busy spot at Mmiri Ocha Amodu lasted till about 7pm.

The assailants who came from Agbani axis of the road had first encounter with policemen at 4 Corner and in Amagunze in Nkanu East Council headquarters before going to attack the checkpoint at Enugu South.

The hoodlums killed about six policemen at the checkpoint, burnt their Hilux van and took away their AK-47 rifles.

"It was around 7 pm we started hearing gunshots along the road. The shooting lasted about 30 minutes. But after the shooting, the hoodlums appeared to have overpowered the policemen as they succeeded in setting their vehicle on fire. I can’t say how many policemen were killed but the policemen at the checkpoint were six. What I can tell you is that up to six people were killed in the incident. Some of the hoodlums may have also been involved.” a source told Punch

Spokesperson of the Enugu State Police Command,  Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident said that though the details were still sketchy, however, police have started preliminary investigation into the matter.

"Information surrounding the shooting incidents in the evening hours of today, 21/07/2021, where Police operatives were allegedly attacked by yet to be identified gunmen at checkpoints in Obeagu-Amechi in Enugu South LGA and Amagunze in Nkanu East LGA are still sketchy. Meanwhile, preliminary investigations have commenced. Further development will be communicated." he stated.

1984 Extradition Treaty between Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana excludes political refugees - Sunday Igboho's counsel

Yomi Alliyu, Lead Counsel for arrested Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho has stated that the Extradition Treaty of 1984 between Togo, Nigeria, Ghana and Republic of Benin excludes political fugitives.

According to him, the treaty states that where the fugitive will not get justice because of discrimination and/or undue delay in prosecution, the host country (in this case Benin) should not release the fugitive.

The Federal Government of Nigeria had placed the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service on alert to stop Igboho from leaving the country after the Nigerian secret police had raided Igboho’s Ibadan residence in the Soka area on July 1, 2021, arrestimg alt='1984 Extradition Treaty between Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana excludes political refugees - Sunday Igboho's counsel' class='img-responsive text-center' style='margin: auto;' about 12 of his aides and killing two of them in a gun duel.

The FG then reportedly took Igboho into custody in neighbouring Cotonou on the night of Monday, July 19 while reportedly processing his extradition.

Now his lawyer says such Extradition is not legal in Igboho's case.

“The Extradition Treaty of 1984 between Togo, Nigeria, Ghana and Republic of Benin excluded political fugitives." He told PUNCH.

It also states that where the fugitive will not get justice because of discrimination and/or undue delay in prosecution the host country should not release the fugitive.

“Now, Article 20 of African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights to which the four countries are signatories made agitation for self-determination a fundamental right to be protected by all countries. This made Chief Sunday Adeyemo a political offender who cannot be deported and/or extradited by the good people of the Republic of Benin for any reason,” Alliyu said.

He also urged the government of Germany, Benin Republic and the international community “to rise up and curb the impunity of the Nigerian Government by refusing any application for extradition of Igboho.''

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, July 21.

He said the terrorists, who were fleeing aerial and artillery bombardments, surrendered to troops and that the terrorists and their families were taken in at the outskirts of Aza and Bula Daloye villages in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno state by troops of the battalion.

“The arrested suspects comprised of 11 adult male terrorists, five adult females and 12 children. The troops also recovered 27 rounds of 7.62 mm (special) ammunition, three AK 47 rifle magazines and a black fragmental Jacket from the suspects,” the statement said.

“During preliminary investigations, the suspects confessed to have been working as informants for the terrorists, whom they provide with information on troops’ movements, locations, deployments, strength, calibre of weapons and other activities.

“They also admitted to supplying terrorists with basic logistics for their daily survival, ranging from Petroleum Oil and Lubricant (POL), drugs, mosquito nets, kolanuts, recharge cards and food stuff.

“The suspects disclosed that they were remunerated by the terrorists with proceeds made from selling dismantled old motorcycle parts to dealers in order to fund their purchases,” Nwachukwu added.

According to Radio Nigeria Ibadan, the deceased persons identified as Abdullahi Ishola and Rashidi Mudashiru including one Alaba Isa (pictured above), were said to be at a party organized by some youths in the area to celebrate the eve of Eid-el-kabir when the Amotekun officers allegedly stormed the venue of their party and started shooting sporadically without asking anyone any question. Head of the family of one of the deceased, Abdullahi, Alahji Olayiwola Sulu-Ishola has called on the Oyo State government to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.

UK asks Nigeria to explain how IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and extradited

The United Kingdom has asked the Nigerian government to explain the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)

According to Reuters, Tariq Ahmad, junior minister at Britain’s foreign office, says the UK wants Nigeria to explain how Kanu was arrested.

"We are seeking clarification from the Nigerian government about the circumstances of the arrest and detention of Nnamdi Kanu," he said.

Ahmad also said Britain had requested consular access to Kanu and stands ready to provide consular assistance.

Kanu, who has been campaigning for the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra, was first arrested on October 14, 2015.

He was granted bail in April 2017 but later fled Nigeria after soldiers invaded his residence in Abia state during a military clampdown on IPOB members.

Kanu, who holds British citizenship, was mostly in the UK after he fled Nigeria. But he was arrested in June and extradited to Nigeria to face trial for treasonable felony.

Although the federal government did not state where Kanu was arrested, Kingsley Kanu, Kanu’s brother alleged that the IPOB leader was arrested in Kenya and handed over to Nigerian authorities who then brought him back to Nigeria.

The Kenya government, however, denied that Kanu was arrested and extradited from the country to Nigeria.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES,

THURSDAY 22ND JULY 2021

 Pastor Chris

TOPIC: SAINTS AT WORK

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry… (Ephesians 4:11-12).

God’s idea and expectation isn’t just for some of us to be effective in the work of the ministry, while some others in the Church are spectators. The work of the ministry is for every Christian. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:18, And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and HATH GIVEN TO US the ministry of reconciliation.”

Notice the underlined: God gave US—not just the apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists and pastors—the ministry of reconciliation! No one is left out in this. His purpose in teaching us His Word is for us to be raised to live the Kingdom life; to subdue this world and establish His righteousness in the earth and in the hearts of men.

As we carry out the work of the ministry, the world will wonder at the life of glory, success, victory and prosperity exuding from us. This is because we’re His ambassadors; the light in the midst of darkness. This is the time for those around you who don’t have the divine life to wonder whether you’re an angel, as you minister the Gospel to them in such power and demonstration of the supernatural. They said the same of Stephen in Bible days (Read Acts 6:15).

The preceding verse 5 says Stephen was a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost; he was neither an apostle nor a prophet. He was made a Deacon in the early Church, being full of faith and power and the wisdom of God.

This is your time to shine ever so brightly with the light of the Gospel, bringing men and women into the Kingdom. Everywhere you are, let men see your good works and glorify your Father, who is in heaven. As the Bible says, “...the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising” (Isaiah 60:3). In other words, as you manifest Christ everywhere, bearing the truth of His glorious Gospel, they’ll turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I’m Christ’s ambassador, the bearer of His truth and conveyor of eternal life. Through me, the light of His glorious Gospel is manifest, and His glory is revealed and men are turned from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God. Hallelujah!

FURTHER STUDY:

Mark 16:15-18 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

1 Peter 2:9 AMPC: But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Colossians 4:17: And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.

Chinese Woman Arrested For Flashing Private Parts During Public Livestream

Quote:A woman has been arrested after entertaining viewers with a saucy strip tease in front of stunned commuters.

Ms Liu, from Huazhou city in China, was caught on CCTV flashing her underwear during a subway ride in the Vietnam-border city of Nanning in May.

Footage released by the police shows the 38-year-old passenger sitting next to two commuters in a fairly busy carriage.

She directs her phone camera to her legs before lifting her dress up and flashing the camera to her private parts.

Liu then tells her viewers to buy her virtual gifts while she continues to livestream the risqué moves in public.

"Come on, I'm happy as long as you enjoy watching it," she told her fans on the app.

A train operator is seen walking past in front of her but he doesn't seem to have notice her indecent behaviour.

According to Nanning Metro Police, Liu was arrested in Luchuan County in Guangxi on May 27 and was charged with one count of reproducing, publishing, selling or spreading pornographic electronic information for seeking profits by means of the internet or terminal of mobile communications.

The police are still investigating into the matter.

Viewers were surprised and thanked the police for arresting the woman.

One said: "I didn't see that in the CCTV and I'm shocked that people sitting around just watched on."

Another wrote: "I thought she was watching pornography, didn't realise she was live-streaming. Nice spot, Nanning Metro Police."

Power Generation Falls Below 4,000MW Amid Gas, Trasmission Problems
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 07-21-2021, 01:01 PM - No Replies

Quote:Power generation in Nigeria dropped below the 4,000 megawatts mark on Tuesday amid the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The total generation in the country stood at 3,958.7MW as of 6am on Tuesday, down from 4,270.7MW on Monday, according to data obtained from the Nigerian Electricity System Operator.

On Monday, the peak generation stood at 4,611MW, while the lowest generation was 3,732.1MW, the NESO data showed.

The total energy generated on Monday was 100,974.45MW, out of which 99,272.98MW was sent out.

Although the NESO data did not state the cause of the decline in generation on Tuesday, gas and transmission constraints are the major challenges facing power stations in the country.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company, in a goodwill message to its customers celebrating this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, assured customers of adequate power supply throughout the period of the celebration and beyond.

The power firm gave the assurance that its technical team would be on hand to clear faults and resolve customer complaints all through the period of the holiday.

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company also expressed its commitment to uninterrupted services during the holidays.

The Chief Operating Officer of the company, Mr John Ayodele, highlighted the need for strict observance of safety precautions such as proper supervision of children to prevent electrical accidents, not cooking or trading under high-tension wires and not engaging quacks to fix faults.

“IBEDC is committed to ensuring that its customers enjoy uninterrupted service during the holiday as much as it is within our control,” he said.

Power generation companies had earlier this month lamented that the country’s available electricity capacity had dropped by about 3,000MW.

Court Refuses To Sack Imo Governor Uzodinma, Deputy
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-21-2021, 12:58 PM - No Replies

Quote:A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to nullify the election of Hope Uzodinma and his Deputy Prof Placid Njoku and declare the governorship seat of Imo State vacant.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo held on Monday, July 19, that the applicant, Mcfyne C. Chikwedu, had no locus standi, adding that the suit was “patently non-justiciable.”

The judge noted that Uzodinma’s election had been affirmed by the Supreme Court and his court was not an election tribunal that could sit on appeal over elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He ordered Chikwedu to pay INEC N250,000 as costs “for bringing such a frivolous and meaningless suit to this court for adjudication.”

INEC and the Attorney-General of The Federation (AGF) were the first and second defendants, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1085/2020.

The judgment followed Chikwedu’s suit alleging the Governor did not meet the constitutional requirement to be declared winner of the March 9 gubernatorial election of Imo State.

But dismissing his contention, the judge observed that there was no connection between the plaintiff and the defendants jointly or severally.

Taiwo held: “If I may ask, was he (Chikwedu) a contestant in the Imo Governorship Election in 2019? He only described himself in paragraphs 1 and 2 of the affidavit in support of the originating summons thus: ‘(1) That I am the plaintiff in this suit and an indigene of Ikeduru LGA of Imo State. (2) That by virtue of my position I am conversant with the facts of this case.’
“These averments are not enough to cloth the plaintiff with the toga of locus standi.

“It is a notorious fact that the issue of the Imo State governorship election has been litigated up to the Supreme Court; the Apex Court in the land on the 14th of January, 2020 and it was held among other things that Senator Hope Uzodinma is the winner of the Governorship Election of Imo State and that the Certificate of Returns be issued to him.

“This court cannot shut its eyes to these facts…This case has no legs to stand on. It is dead on arrival and nothing can be done to resuscitate it. I need to state that cases of this nature ought not to be permitted to see the light of day if not for the constitutional provision as to fair hearing.

“I am of the well-considered view that parties should desist from bringing such time-wasting suits to court knowing fully well that they have no chance to succeed. The time of the court is very precious.

“This case is dismissed in its entirety. This is the judgment of the court.”

The applicant had sought a declaration that Uzodinma’s election as Imo governor was unconstitutional and illegal for violating Section 1 and 179 of the 1999 Constitution.

He also sought, through his counsel F. I Aliuna, an order compelling INEC to withdraw Uzodinma’s Certificate of Return and conduct a fresh gubernatorial election in Imo State within 90 days from the date of the nullification.

Furthermore, he prayed for an order dissolving the Imo State Executive Council, Imo State Boards and Commissions, Imo State Local Government Interim Management Committee as constituted and all other appointments so far made by the governor, and his deputy and to direct them to immediately handover to the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly.

Lastly, he prayed the court to direct the Chief Judge of Imo State to swear in the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly as the Acting Governor with immediate effect pending the election and swearing-in of a substantive Governor.

INEC opposed him via his counsel, Anthony Onyeri, on the ground among others of a lack of locus standi, while the AGF did not enter an appearance.

Ex-Army Chief, Buratai Lobbies Beninese Government To Extradite Sunday Igboho
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-21-2021, 12:49 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Nigerian Ambassador to the Benin Republic, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.), is in the forefront of the desperate efforts by the Muhammadu Buhari regime to get Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho, extradited to Nigeria.

SaharaReporters was told that Buratai, who was appointed Nigerian envoy to Benin in June 2021, was also instrumental to the arrest of Sunday Igboho.

A top security source in the Benin Republic revealed that Buratai had secretly written a letter to the Beninese security agencies to arrest Igboho wherever they found him.

“At the moment, Buratai is leading other Nigerian officials and lawyers together with the Interpol to ensure that Igboho is returned to Nigeria as soon as possible. He wants to make that his first success,” a source noted.

“Buratai since the declaration by the Department of State Services sent a secret letter to the Beninese government to be on the lookout for Igboho. There were feelers that Igboho was in the small West African country and some of Igboho’s associates also gave him away,” the source added.

Buratai’s memo was behind the arrest of Igboho and his wife, Ropo, at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the largest city in the French-speaking country.

Recall that three weeks ago, the Department of State Services declared Igboho wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms, an allegation he had since denied.

Before then, the DSS on July 1, 2021 raided his house at Soka area of Ibadan, killing two of his aides and arresting 12 others.

Later that day, the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, at a press briefing in Abuja, paraded Igboho’s associates and detained them thereafter, denying them access to their lawyers and not charging them to court.

The DSS also paraded some passports, AK-47 rifles, rounds of ammunition, African bulletproof vests, among others as exhibits. The secret police claimed that the items were recovered from Igboho’s house during the bloody raid.

Meanwhile, the activist’s lawyers have reached out to the Benin Republic government to halt his extradition.

It was gathered on Tuesday that the legal team in Benin met with some senior officials in the Francophone country to thwart moves by the Federal Government to repatriate Igboho.

Speaking on the circumstances of Igboho’s arrest and moves by the FG to repatriate him to Nigeria, one of the activist’s lawyers, Pelumi Olajengbesi, explained that the legal team representing the activist had said they would do all that was necessary to prevent their client’s extradition.

Speaking with Punch, he said, “The lawyers we engaged in Benin have met with some officials of the country to prevent the extradition.

“Igboho’s lawyers in Benin have already reached out to senior officials in Benin to ensure that he is not brought back to Nigeria. They (legal team) have assured us that they are doing all that is necessary to keep him in Benin.

“The Federal Government or Benin Republic won’t be able to circumvent the law to bring him to Nigeria. He is currently a prisoner of conscience in Benin Republic and the entire world is watching how the Benin government would manage the matter.”

Landlord killed as 2-storey building collapses in Lagos

A two-storey building under construction at 77, Tapa Road, Oke-Ojo, Isawo in Ikorodu, Lagos State, collapsed and killed the owner identified as Pastor Daniel Obasi.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 2.30p.m on Tuesday, July 20, while people were celebrating Eid-el-Kabir.

According to a neighbour, construction work were suspended on Tuesday due to the Eid El Kabir celebration, adding that workers were at work late Monday evening.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Acting Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye said the landlord was the only victim of the collapsed building.

Farinloye said that Obasi was earlier reported  trapped, but the body was later recovered from the rubble by emergency responders and handed over to Isawo Division Police

He said Isawo police officers had taken the body to the morgue of the General Hospital, Ikorodu, adding that the collapsed building was an attachment to the main building.

"The cause of the collapse was suspected to be inadequate timeline to allow sand-filled land to compact properly before the commencement of construction and poor building materials, according to neighbours.” Farinloye stated.

He said further investigations would be conducted by relevant agencies.

Yoruba Nation Agitators To Protest Against Igboho’s Detention In Cotonou

Agitators for the secessionist of Yorubaland are set to protest the detention of one of the arrowheads of the movement, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho.

Igboho’s spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, disclosed this in a notice on Facebook on Wednesday.

Quote:Emergency, emergency, emergency, emergency, please we beg all agitators to converge at Chief Sunday Igboho’s house for a peaceful demonstration to show the world the kind of person he is as one of the conditions given for his release, please let’s all be at his house in Soka, Ibadan before 12 o clock today. Thanks and God bless. Yoruba nation now now now!

Recall that Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic around 8pm on Monday. They were subsequently detained in separate cells. The Nigerian government has since been pushing for their extradition to Abuja but many individuals and groups have kicked against this move.

Igboho, who rose to prominence in January 2021 after he issued an ultimatum to ‘killer herders’ in parts of Ibarapaland, was said to have escaped the security apparatus in the areas to Benin Republic where he was scheduled to catch a flight to Germany.

He had been declared wanted on July 1, 2021 when the Department of State Services raided his Soka residence in Ibadan, arrested 12 of his aides and killed two others.

Dad turns his teenage son in to police after suspecting he murdered his girlfriend

A teenager has been arrested after his father reported to Brazilian police that he suspected the young man had murdered his girlfriend.

Paulo Eduardo Scravonatto, aged 19, was taken in by police after his dad, whose identity was not released, suspected he killed Joana Fabris Deon, also 19, in the city of Bento Goncalves located in the Brasilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Local media reported the murder of Joana happened on Saturday, July, 17, after which Scravonatto had called his father claiming that Joana was wounded and needed to be quickly rushed to a doctor.

The teen claimed Joana was shot by brutal street thugs after she stood up against them when they tried to rob her.

Scravonatto and his father took the injured girlfriend to the nearby Tacchini Hospital, where she soon died from her injuries, whilst the 19-year-old man was released after telling his version of the story to the cops.

But according to Chief Deise Salton Brancher and Head of Specialized Police Stations on Assistance to Women (DEAMs), the father came back to the police station later during the day and claimed his son was the one who murdered the woman.

Police and Military Intelligence investigators then went to Scravonatto's house, where they witnessed the crime scene and seized a gun, which allegedly belonged to the teen.

The officers then questioned the suspect again, who then allegedly changed the story and claimed he accidentally shot the victim.

However, after his dad gave another statement confirming his previous assumptions, Scravonatto was arrested on the basis of femicide and is currently awaiting trial.

Chief Brancher said: "It's a very delicate situation, which involves family members of both the victim and the suspect, because we have a mother and father who lost a daughter.

"But we also have a father who acted correctly and alerted the police of his own son's actions."

The police reported that a more detailed investigation will follow.

Man who snuck into farm to have sex with horse is caught on surveillance camera

Police are looking for a man who snuck into a farm, stripped and allegedly had sex with a horse.

The man is said to have committed the gruesome act in Norfolk, Massachusetts, early Thursday morning, July 15, and it was captured on a surveillance camera.

Before committing the evil act, the man unplugged one of the cameras. However, another camera captured the act.

Footage of the man shows him with his pants down as he stood on a ladder chair to enable him reach the horse's level.

The horrified equestrian centre found the footage on one their security system.

Hillary Swarr, owner of Turner Hill Equestrian Centre, said: "I look at this person as a sexual predator. It’s a threat to a very small community where a lot of people feel extremely violated and rightfully so."

The disgusted owner told the Boston Herald that a young man had infiltrated the centre on foot in the very early hours of Thursday morning.

Footage from the surveillance camera shows the man halter and cross tie the lone mare, which showed Swarr that he was comfortable around horses and must have had some experience in the equestrian industry.

He then proceeded to assault the horse.

After seeing the footage, Hilary rushed to the stable, but by the time she arrived the man had fled.

The incident has reportedly led to Swarr losing business in her centre where she takes care of horses.

Swarr said the owner of the abused horse "questions why this individual chose her horse for this grotesque act."

Norfolk Police have sent out an alert to neighbouring communities to see if they had any information or similar incidents occur.

The investigation is ongoing.

Two 18-year-old twin sisters have been shot dead by a gang in Brazil.

The sisters, Amália Alves and Amanda Alves, were murdered last Wednesday morning, July 14, in a horrific Instagram livestream, and the video footage has since been viewed thousands of times on social media.

The women’s lifeless bodies were found just hours after they were killed on the side of a road behind a housing complex in Pacajus, Ceará, Brazil.

Both women had children. Amanda Alves left behind a three-year-old daughter, while her sister Amália Alves has a son who is only six months old.

A teen suspect in the case has been arrested. Mateus Abreu, only 17-years-old, is being questioned by the police.

Video footage captured the sisters’ harrowing final moments as they knelt next to each other on the dirty road.

The sisters were forced to gather their hair up in a bun before Abreu allegedly shot them in the back of their skulls.

He is then accused of blasting two more shots at one of the sisters before standing over the other victim and firing another four bullets at her limp body.

Brazilian newspaper Diario do Noreste said in a report the teen suspect had seven prior arrests.

According to local newspaper, Jornal de Brasília, the sisters were killed because they knew "too much" about incidents involving local drug dealers.
