Adam Nuru Paternity Scandal: FCMB To Probe MD As Many Demand His Sack
#1
More than 1,200 people have signed a petition accusing Adam Nuru of an illicit affair that led to the death of the spouse of the bank's former employee

Quote:Over 1400 people (as of press time) have signed a petition asking the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to sack the managing director of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Adam Nuru.

The petition alleged that the bank chieftain was responsible for the demise of Tunde Thomas.

Mr Thomas was said to have died of depression on December 16, 2020.

According to the petition, the FCMB MD allegedly had an affair with his staff, Moyo Thomas, who was the deceased’s wife, resulting in two children.

It alleged that Moyo had informed her husband that she was leaving Nigeria for the United States with the kids only to call him upon arrival that the children do not belong to him.

The petition claimed the news initially caused Mr Thomas to be down with a stroke but later recovered and thereafter met another lady whom he planned to marry.

Mr Thomas was, however, said to have suffered a cardiac arrest after returning from work about two days before his introduction to his already pregnant girlfriend.

The petition

Here is an excerpt of the petition posted on change.org:

“Tunde Thomas died recently like about a week or 2 from Depression.

“Apparently, kids from his marriage to Moyo Thomas belong to his wife’s boss (Adam Nuru, the current MD of FCMB).

“Moyo Thomas left Tunde to go to America with the kids. She told him kids were not his when she got to America. He was later down with a stroke but recovered.

“Apparently, Tunde met someone else he was going to remarry but apparently didn’t recover from the first Marriage issues.

“Tunde was just made director for the MFB he works for. Got back from work last week and had a cardiac arrest 2 days before introduction to a pregnant new girlfriend.

“This is a case of gross misconduct based on ethical grounds and unjustifiable economic oppression by the elites (Adam Nuru) against the less privileged in the society.

“The MD has been doing everything possible to sweep this case under the carpet. We implore the Central Bank of Nigeria as the apex regulator and the board of FCMB to investigate this for the integrity of the bank and Nigerian banking industry.

“This is a case too many, while I agree that this is not the full story, the barest minimum will be an investigation of this unethical conduct by the current MD of FCMB Bank Adam Nuru.”

An Akure-based human rights lawyer, Bolanle Cole, has also begun his own Twitter campaign to compel the CBN and FCMB to sack the bank chieftain.

In a Twitter thread on Friday, Mr Cole called out Mr Nuru and lampooned the FCMB boss for allowing the ‘unprofessional romance’ to happen.

He gave the bank two weeks from 30 December to sack Mr Nuru or else witness a campaign of a boycott by customers.

When PREMIUM TIMES contacted FCMB’s spokesman, Diran Olojo, he said the bank was reviewing the matter.

He said, ‘‘We are aware of several stories circulating across several media platforms about our bank’s Managing Director Adam Nuru, a former employee Ms Moyo Thomas and her deceased husband, Mr. Tunde Thomas.

“While this is a personal matter, the tragedy of the death of Mr. Tunde Thomas and the allegations of unethical conduct, require the bank’s board to conduct a review of what transpired, any violations of our code of ethics, and the adequacy of these code of conduct ethics. This will be done immediately.

“We enjoin all our stakeholders to bear with us as we conduct this review and to please respect the various families involved.”

Femi Fani-Kayode On Adam Nuru & The Death Of Tunde Thomas

I Never Slept With Anyone's Wife And Sent Them To Early Grave — Femi Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani-Kayode has taken a swipe at a critic who called him out over his comment on report of MD of FCMB, Adam Nuru allegedly impregnating a married staff of the bank twice, which in turn led to the death of her husband after he found out, Igbere TV reports.

The former Minister of Aviation had described Nuru as the "scum of the earth who is worse than a leper and ought to be avoided at all costs."

He tweeted;

Quote:“This is the MD of FCMB. His name is Adam Nuru. He sent a good man to an early grave with his heartless and shameful actions. I repeat a good man DIED as a consequence of his reckless, wicked, heartless and irresponsible behavior.

“There are no saints in the world & very few angels but to sleep with someone's wife, make her pregnant twice & send him to an early grave is inexplicable & unfathomable. This is made all the worse by the fact that she was working for him in a large corporation where such

“Things are not meant to happen between a Managing Director and a subordinate. He also sent over 500 million naira to Ibrahim Magu's Pastor's account "by mistake". The man is filthy, seedy, disgusting, sleazy, irresponsible, dangerous and unreliable.

“He deserves far worse than just being sacked from the bank that he presently heads. Far worse! He should not only bow his head in shame but he should also be subjected to total and complete public opprobrium and banned from the company of decent and civilised men.

“He is the scum of the earth. He is worse than a leper and ought to be avoided at all costs. May the soul of Tunde Thomas rest in peace and may God judge ALL those that betrayed his love and trust and caused the heartbreak that led to his premature death.

“May the soul of Tunde Thomas rest in peace and may God judge ALL those that betrayed his love and trust and caused the heartbreak that led to his premature death.”

However a follower who reacted to the tweets, accused him of being no better. She added that he is not supposed to comment on the scandalous incident.

The follower tweeted;

Quote:“Are you better than him[Image: huh.png] How is your own family like? You are not suppose to open your mouth on this matter please.”

Replying her, Femi Fani-Kayode stated that he never slept with anyone's wife and sent them to an early grave.

FFK tweeted in response;

Quote:“I never slept with anyone wife and sent them to an early grave you piece of digs sh*t.”

My Bank. My Wife and The New Social Order

Let me first out myself. I am a former Employee of FCMB. I worked there for a bit in the securities trading arm, CSL. CSL is a legendary institution that continues to be the corner piece of the Nigerian Capital Market. I was the Head of Local Business.

One thing that attracted me to the firm was its legacy. Its founder, Chief Subomi Balogun was a hero of sorts to young Stockbrokers like myself. He had built the institution from his boot straps to the behemoth it is today with over 50,000 Shareholders.

My first day at work, I was taken in a ride by the then Managing Director Ladi Balogun on his way to a meeting with Aliko Dangote and in those few minutes he perfectly situated the values that drove the institution. Ethical standards and integrity were the words he kept repeating as he stressed the need for me to join as he attempted to reclaim market share in the Local Securities market.
I stayed with the Bank for over 15months and having worked in several financial instutions including about four Banks and several stockbroking and Asset Management Firms, I can safely say that the ethical standards at FCMB stand shoulder high above its peers. The FCMB woman is well regarded, with access to the very top to discuss her issues. They even have the FCMB Woman Platform which seeks to build cohesion and gives the FCMB woman the much needed push to fulfil whatever it is is her career goals.

That said, the news of the alleged dalliance between the well regarded MD Mr. Nuru and the former staff leading to the supposed siring of two kids by him while still in her marriage and ultimately leading to her husbands passing has captured the imagination of Nigerians powerfully.

Daily the keen observer is assailed with all sort of social media commentary, memes and the rest on the matter. I hear an online petition has been in circulation with varied numbers being quoted as signatures asking both the FCMB and the CBN to act on the matter. A memo allegedly sent out by Group Managing Director Ladi Balogun quoting that the issue could derail the achievements’ of the Bank in the just concluded year is leaked, fueling calls for his removal.

All these have thrown up very important questions on the ethical behaviors of Bankers and its effect on the Bank’s public image and much more importantly the profitability of the Bank on the one hand and the safety of public funds in its custody on the other. It is also putting the regulator to task on the issue.

But tarry awhile. Why all these fervor on an unsigned petition innocuously posted on social media. How do we move against a Man based on a mere allegation without anybody coming out to own up to the allegations. Up until this point as I write, I have not seen a signed petition accusing the man of all of these allegations.

What we are seeing so far are online petitions from people on the back of the anonymous triggerr post. Should we now then hang a man based on this? Based on public push which is as is the case quite emotional.

The arbitrariness of this matter and others like this especially on social media is scary. What this portends is that if Nuru falls then anybody can fall based on any story thrown up there just by anybody.

Before I am castigated, please note that I am not taking a stand as to Mr. Nuru’s innocence or not or if he breeched Banks ethical rules or what not. All I am just saying is that there has been no concrete complaint from either the Mr. Thomas accusing this man of this heinous crime, nor an official complaint from the Woman alleging rape, forceful sex or any type of abuse using his power as a boss over her. We have not even seen DNA certification confirming the parentage of the children. All that is in the public domain are pictures of children who have an uncanny resemblance to Mr. Nuru. Are there sufficient factual and legal evidence to begin to push for the Mr. Nurus head.

In the last five years, Nigerians have witnessed the growth of what some of us have called digital mobs who unlike their physical counterparts who roast with used tyres and bonfires, these ones do thier with words on social media.

The arbitrariness and disregard for processes and institutionalized structures for arbitration continues to weaken the levers that hold society together pushing us closer to anarchy.

The FCMB I know have well tested and well-ordered structures for getting relieve if your rights have been trampled. I have gone through it as a boss. I had lost my temper during a heated meeting and unwittingly threw a pencil at a junior staff. She went through the process and I faced a disciplinary Committee and was found guilty.

The system didn’t care that as at that time I Was number 3 in hierarchy in our subsidiary and that this lady was very near the bottom in hierarchy, I was made to face the music. Same I am very confident would be the case if there is an official approach to this matter by any complainant even if it is me being Mr. Thomas Landlord.

The major issue here is not even Mr. Nuru and his supposed errant private member but our societies’ eagerness to throw caution and common sense into the gutters in matters like this while putting on the toga of arbitrariness in pushing this types of issues.

I fear that our institutions for fear of Market share can bow to public pressure and take decisions that would further weaken them and infringe on the human rights of their people.

Please in conclusion, where is Mrs Thomas in all of these for only she can solve this problem. Her position would either indict or free Mr. Nuru, she has to answer some very salient questions – was she in an affair with Mr. Nuru while at FCMB, was she in that affair willingly or not and who truly is the father of the child and where she has no answer to the last question, would she willingly take a DNA test on this matter.

My advise to FCMB is to stand firm by its rules, do not be pressured to take hasty decision by a fickle social media crowd who will move on to the next hot gist, while you would have destroyed not only the career of a man who is possibly innocent and in the same vein destroy the fabrics that hold your institution together. Seek the facts and base your decision on those facts.

I wish you a fruitful review of the matter. But will I close my account with FCMB cos the MD has two children with a married staff? I think not. Thank you

Paternity scandal: FCMB MD, Adam Nuru goes on leave

Embattled Managing director of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Adam Nuru, has embarked on a mandatory leave amid allegations of marital infidelity involving him and a former staff of the bank, Moyo Lawal.

It was gathered that Moyo's estranged husband, Tunde Thomas, 45, died on December 16, 2020 from heart attack after battling with depression upon discovering that the two children from their marriage were allegedly fathered by the FCMB boss.

According to report by the deceased's friends, Moyo had resigned from FCMB and travelled to the US with the two children, and thereafter informed Tunde that he was not the biological father of the children.

Over 1,000 people had signed a petition to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), calling for the sack of Nuru.

On Saturday, January 2, 2021, the bank released a statement saying its Board of Directors had commenced an investigation into the matter. Read here.

In an internal mail sent to all workers on Tuesday  January 5, Nuru announced his plans to embark on leave immediately to allow the board to carry out an independent review of the circumstances surrounding the reports.

Paternity Scandal: On no occasion did I ever tell Tunde he was not the father of our two children – Moyo Thomas finally speaks

Moyo Thomas, the former employee of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) who is caught up in a paternity scandal with the managing director of the bank Nuhu Adams, has finally shared her own side of the story.

Recall that it was reported that Moyo's estranged husband, Tunde Thomas, died from heart attack after battling depression upon learning that the two children from their marriage were allegedly fathered by Nuhu Adams, who she was allegedly in a romantic relationship with.

Speaking after reports of the affair went viral and also made Adams embark on a leave pending investigation into the case by the bank management, Moyo said she refrained from commenting on the issue to preserve memories of Tunde who died on December 16, 2020.

The former FCMB employee also stated that despite the differences in their marriage, some of which led to police intervention, she remained committed to keeping only positive memories of him and never allowed their separation affect their children.

The statement which was released on Friday January 8, read;

Quote:“I write in reference to all the allegations and accusations that have recently been making the rounds on the internet and various social media platforms. I have refrained from responding to this matter for various reasons, one of which is to preserve the memories of Tunde who departed to be with his maker on December 16, 2020. Memories, not only to me, but to his children, who are still young, and to everybody who had a relationship with him.

“Just like any marriage, Tunde and I had a lot of differences in our marriage, some of which even led to police intervention . But I remain committed to keeping only positive memories of him. No one can ever understand what transpired between us or what each of us experienced in the marriage; like they say, it is he who wears the shoes that knows where it pinches. In all of it, I never for once wished him bad. His untimely and sudden death is still a shock to me as it is to many others.

“On no occasion did I ever tell him he was not the father of our two children. It is therefore deliberate falsehood and certainly malicious to allege and insinuate  that I informed him that the children are not his. The children still bear his name.  Only God knows why he died in an untimely period. It is not in my place, or anyone’s place to play God and talk with certainty as to the cause of his death, without proven medical facts.

“Despite our separation, we never allowed our differences affect the relationships we respectively have with the children. He still had conversations with the children like any father will, up until his sudden and unfortunate  death. It is quite sad and disheartening to see the pictures of these innocent children splashed all over the internet with very disparaging and weird comments.

“I do wish his family and friends the fortitude to bear the unfortunate loss and I ask that we all be allowed to grieve his loss in peace. He has now been laid to rest and we implore all and sundry  to please respect our privacy and allow those grieving his loss, including the children and I, to do so in peace.”

The wife of Adam Nuru, the Managing Director of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) alleged to have had an affair with one of his staff, has reportedly left their home.

Adam Nuru's wife, Hauwa, has also reporteldy concluded plans to divorce her husband amid the scandal, according to SaharaReporters.

The publication quotes family sources as saying that Hauwa has moved out of Nuru’s house and has likely informed her lawyer to prepare divorce papers so she could leave the marriage.

This comes after Adam Nuru embarked on a voluntary leave  following the alleged paternity scandal that has rocked social media.

Nigerians had petitioned FCMB to strip Nuru of his position for allegedly fathering two children with one of his married staff, named Moyo Thomas, ultimately causing Moyo's estranged husband, Tunde Thomas,  to die from a heart attack after battling with depression  after discovering the children are not his.

Moyo, a former staff of the bank, has denied the allegations that her children were not fathered by her late husband (read here).

As FCMB carries out an investigation, Adam Nuru took a voluntary leave but still has to face the heat on the home front as his wife is allegedly planning to leave him.

A source told SaharaReporters: "I know she has moved out. This case is beyond Moyo or the late Tunde. His own marriage is about to crash now. The wife and her family are really giving him problems. They are ready to deal with him. The Moyo stuff is part one, he is currently facing the second part with his wife."

Hauwa, Adam Nuru Wife Is Not Planning To Divorce Him, Stands With Her Husband

The wife of the embattled Managing Director of the First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Mrs Hauwa Adam Nuru has shown her solidarity with her husband, adding that she had never contemplated leaving him.

Mr Adam Nuru was made to proceed on leave as FCMB MD to allow for an investigation into an alleged sex scandal involving a former employee of the bank.

Mrs Hauwa, in a statement, debunked speculations that she left her husband, calling such reports malicious and deliberate falsehood.

“I want to clarify for the avoidance of doubt that I am still very much with my husband. This fake news was published by an online newspaper in a calculated attempt to further demonise my beloved husband and a loving father,” she said.

“Let me reiterate that at no time did I contemplate leaving my matrimonial home or filing for divorce as no grounds exist for such,” she said urging media practitioners to abide by the ethics of the profession.
