Udom orders investigation into abuse of student at Deeper Life College

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has mandated his Commissioner for Education, Dr Enobong Mboho, to commence investigation into the alleged case of child abuse at the Deeper Life School abuse in the state.

The governor’s order was contained in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.

The statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ini EmemObong, read in part, “The state government has noted with great concern the complaints by a parent, whose child is a student of the Deeper Life College, Uyo.

“The complaint gleaned from social and traditional media relate to the maltreatment and abuse of the complainant’s child, which occurred at the said school.

“Consequently, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has directed the Commissioner for Education to immediately investigate these complaints and take necessary action.

“The state government is committed to the protection of children wherever they may be within its jurisdiction.”

We will like to categorically restate that Deeper Life High School is built on the core values of godliness and excellence and will not tolerate any immoral act or molestation of any student. We believe Parents /Guardians enroll their wards in our schools all over the country because of the strong perception that ours offers a sure-footed platform for moral armament and academic excellence.

We want to assure the general public that investigations into the case have commenced and no culprit, whether staff or student, will be spared if found culpable at the end of the exercise. As an interim measure and to underscore the seriousness we attach to higher superintending values, the school principal has been suspended summarily even as further investigations continue.

We firmly assure the discerning public that the overall outcome of the investigations will be made known and appropriate disciplinary actions will be meted to all culprits in this unfortunate act that admittedly threatens to cast unnecessary aspersions on a unique institution that has been a shining example to all over the years.

Deeper Life School Begs Parents Of Sexually Abused Student To Withdraw Case 

Iniobong Archibong, the father of Don Davis, a student of Deeper Life High School, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, who was allegedly molested by his seniors, has revealed that the school authorities told the family to withdraw the case.

A video made by one Deborah Okezie, Davis’ mother, made rounds on social media recently. In the video, she’d lamented and beckoned for help from Nigerians, to help her get justice for her son who had been molested by his senior students and starved consistently at the Uyo Campus of the school despite the full payment of school fees.

Judging from the things that were said in the video Mrs. Okezie made, she had gone to pick him up on Friday from the school and was the last person to pick up her child there.

However, upon seeing her child, she noticed that he was sick and was not being attended to. She also alleged that she noticed her son was not able to sit properly, which prompted her to check his buttocks.

From the look of his anus, Deborah said her son had been sexually molested. This was later confirmed by doctors at the hospital where Don Davis was taken. He was put on a drip at the hospital and is currently on the 12th one.

Don Davis claimed that his seniors in the school inserted their fingers into his anus.

Speaking with SaharaReporters, Archibong stated that the state Superintendent of the Church, Deeper Life Christian Ministry, had visited the hospital where the boy was being attended to alongside the principal of the school, Ndidi Solomon; chairman of the school’s medical forum and another prominent member of the school board.

He said, “They all came here yesterday. Before the superintendent arrived, the three of them came. They were on their knees begging us to withdraw the video from the Internet but I told them we had no control over that. It had gone viral already.”

Archibong stated that the State Superintendent of the church expressed shock over the feeding conditions of students in the school.

He said, “The superintendent said he approves N2.2 million every week for the feeding of the students and that he didn’t understand why this could have happened. He said the principal has to explain.”

The distraught father said rather than explain, the principal was begging on her knees.

“She apologised, stating that she was the one that caused the incident. She said when the boy’s mother (my wife) came on November 11, and talked about it, she promised to expel those children from school but never did.”

Archibong added that the Akwa Ibom State Government has set up a committee to investigate the matter.

“The Commissioner for Education and some other state government officials were here with us this morning in the hospital. Members of the investigation committee are going to the school."

“The issue does not have to do with my child alone, what about other children that are being abused?”

The father said he was sure that justice would be served on the issue.

“These things should not continue; brutality and bullying should stop in our schools,” he said.

He said the case had been reported to the police and that a meeting had been scheduled for Monday afternoon with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state.

My life not safe’ — mother of ‘assaulted’ Deeper Life schoolboy cries out[/b]

Deborah Okezie, the mother of Don Davis Archibong, a student of Deeper Life High School in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, who was said to have been assaulted, has alleged threats to her life.

TheCable Lifestyle earlier reported how Okezie claimed that her son was starved and molested by some senior students of the school after the principal had moved him to their dormitory for urinating on his bed.

She had also claimed that her son told her the senior students pushed their hands and legs into his anus and threatened to kill him if he reported to his parents or the principal, who was recently suspended over the case.

On Thursday, Okezie took to her Facebook page to share another video, saying Enobong Mbobo, the state’s commissioner for education, had invited her and her son for questioning on the instruction of the state government.

“Nigerians, I am not safe, if I am going now and they kill me, let people know what killed me. Any time you don’t see me come here live to update you, just know that they have collected my phone from me,” the mother claimed.

“We got a call saying we should come to the commissioner’s office. We told them the boy was not strong enough to come but they said the parents of the said boys, who were involved in whatever happened to Don Davis, were there.

“We told them Don Davis was taken to another hospital, they said we must bring him, but since we had to obey them because it was part of investigations as ordered by the governor, we pulled him out from the hospital.

“On getting to the commissioner’s office, Deeper Life School Board (members) were seated, the parents with their friends were seated and I was with my husband, Don Davis, and my other children.”

The mother alleged that Enobong had taken sides with the parents of the accused while requesting that she pull down the now-viral videos she made online.

Okezie also claimed she was attacked and questioned on why she went on a live broadcast.

According to her, Enobong had claimed her outburst posed a risk to the commissioner’s office and the government.

“She was asking me; do I know what that has done to her office? Do I know that America is watching? She said why did I do what I did? That I am putting the government’s name at risk? I said how?” Okezie said.

“Everybody saw that the government said the case should be investigated, what is putting the government at risk here? She said I should take the video off the internet immediately.

“I told the commissioner that she could not intimidate me; even if she wanted me to take the video off the air, she could do it one on one. She said do I know what that video had done to her office? I said, is it a lie? What are we hiding?

“Already biased, she turned to Don Davis and asked him what happened to him. He said they put fingers in his anus, then the woman started asking questions. I stood up and said no to this type of questioning.”

The mother, thereafter, alleged that her phone was seized as the commissioner grilled her son with pressurising questions she objected to.

Okezie claimed the parent of one of the boys, who allegedly molested her son, threatened to slap her while another attempted to beat her.

“They said I am putting the government at risk, I told them I have always been a social media person. They pushed me and my children out of their office, they insulted me till I came downstairs this afternoon,” Okezie added.

“Before I left, the commissioner told them she would take the remaining up, I told her to go ahead. Anything she wants to go and tell the governor, let her go and tell him but this is the truth.

“The commissioner pushed me out of her office; let her tell the governor that she asked me to get the video off the air. I am doing this video so the governor will know the truth.”

The mother also called on foreign bodies to come to her aid to avoid losing her life in her quest to get justice.

Nigerians are demanding justice for Don Davis Archibong, the 11-year-old Deeper Life High School student who was allegedly molested in school.
 
Deborah Okezie, mother of the JSS1 student who was allegedly molested in his boarding school in Uyo (read here), says he now suffers trauma following months of the alleged abuse.
 
In a recent update, she said he experiences nightmares and regularly jumps up from sleep suddenly.
 
Earlier, the mum who is seeking justice for her son, gave an initial update, claiming she was intimidated after she was summoned by the Commissioner for Education for further investigation.

I'm Mrs. Thelma Malaka the Education Secretary, Deeper Life High School.

This is a further statement to the first we shared with discerning observers on the allegation of molestation of a JSSI. student, Don Davis, at our Uyo Campus, Akwa Ibom.

First and foremost, permit me to remind you that the office of the Governor of Akwa lbom has taken over the investigation of the matter to ensure neutrality and a dispassionate outcome.
We appreciate the concerned effort of everyone who has shown support in the investigation thus far.We reiterate that we will be transparent and that justice will not only be served, it will be seen by all that it has been served.

Recall that we had earlier suspended the principal of the affected campus and initiated an investigation into the matter. We decided to restrain ourselves from further comments after the first update because we thought it is sub judice to comment on a matter currently under investigation.

However, considering the potential impact of this issue, especially on what we stand for, We are compelled to provide an early update before the final report is released by the govern-ment.
The panel has sat and we have presented staff members and students of our school who have been mentioned in this particular case all through the period of the investigation. We believe that the Government Will share the final report once the investigation is concluded.
Secondly, as a parent myself, I do care about the mental and physical health of Don Davis who has been at the centre of this issue. Despite the intriguing underpinnings, we will continue to show our love to him within the limits permitted by his parents. We have unflinching confidence in our God to resolve the issue such that at the end, the truth will ultimately prevail..

Thirdly, I will like to let you know that the Police is also currently investigating this matter and we have been invited to share our side of the story. The detailed interrogation was however adjourned due to the holidays. We believe that a new date will be communicated as soon as possible by the Police Authorities.

Finally, we will like to restate that Deeper Life High School stand on the core values of integrity and uprightness and will not attempt to cover up any immoral act under any guise. We enjoin the public to be on the look out for the final report as will be released by the appropriate authorities soon.

Vilifying Pastor Kumuyi over the #JusticeForDonDavis incident is uncalled for - Reno Omokri







Reno Omokri is against Nigerians vilifying the General Overseer of Deeper Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, over the alleged sexual abuse of Don Davis, a JS1 student of the Deeper Life High School, which is owned by Kumuyi's Ministry.
 
Since Don Davis's mother came out to cry out for justice, Nigerians have attacked the clergyman for not openly speaking about the incident. They believe that his comment would show that he is committed to getting justice for the child.
 
Reno however shares a different opinion. He believes that the attack on the clergyman is uncalled for. 
 
On his IG page this morning, he wrote;

''Vilifying Pastor Kumuyi over the #JusticeForDonDavis incident is uncalled for. The principal was speedily suspended. A 3rd party is investigating. Therefore, a media lynching is unhelpful. Blaming Kumuyi is like blaming Christ for Judas’s behaviour! 


#JusticeForDonDavis shouldn’t be driven by media hysteria. What needs to be done seems to be going on. The state and police are investigating. If anything shady is ESTABLISHED to be going on with the probe, we should raise an alarm. If not, let’s be patient with the investigation. Many people genuinely care about #JusticeForDonDavis. But, a few people just want to trend by throwing mud at men, like Pastor Kumuyi, whose lives, though not perfect, are a pattern of good works. Don Davis' Medical Report Silent On Sexual Abuse At Deeper Life High School


A medical report on the victim of the alleged sexual abuse at Deeper Life High School, Uyo, has not stated if the 11-year-old boy has been sexually molested or not.

The boy, a JSS1 student of the school, was discharged from hospital on Tuesday after spending ten days.

The victim’s father, Iniobong Archibong, who got the medical report from the hospital on Monday, said he would only disclose the content after consultation with his lawyer.

A source, who has seen the medical report, told PREMIUM TIMES, Wednesday, the report did not mention whether the boy was sexually abused or not.

“The report is shallow, it only stated that the boy has tested negative to HIV, and that he was pale and emaciated when he was brought to the hospital, and also that he has been treated for malaria,” the source said.

The boy was examined and treated at St. Athanasius Hospital, a private medical facility in Uyo.

“In physical examination, you need to watch which area was molested and this one they are thinking of the anus, which that report has shown that there was no injury seen,” Emmanuel Akpanobong, the medical director, St. Athanasius Hospital, told PREMIUM TIMES, Wednesday morning, when asked why the report did not state clearly if the boy was sexually abused or not.

Mr Akpanobong, a medical doctor, said tests were done to ascertain if the boy had any infection. Outside of that, he said the doctors were not “magician” to verify what happened to the boy while he was at the dormitory. “We rely on the physical findings which is what we reported there,” he added.

“In fact, if a girl is molested, especially a virgin, you need to look for the evidence of recent issues, you look for the damage to the hymen which, even in most cases, if a rape or whatever had taken place and the person has had bath, has done normal things thereafter, the evidence maybe obscured.

“(It is) the same thing here. In fact, one would have expected that if the molestation was done that very day and maybe there is evidence of contamination – smearing with semen and all that. But these were not available at the time of seeing the child,” Mr Akpanobong said.
The victim’s parents are likely to consult other physicians for a “thorough” medical examination on their son, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

Allegations
The victim’s mother, Deborah Okezie, said some senior students of the Deeper Life High School sexually abused her son when the school authorities switched him from his dormitory to another dormitory filled with senior students.

“They will remove his boxer and push their legs and hands into his anus,” Mrs Okezie said in a video which has gone viral on Facebook and Twitter.

“Look at a child I sent to school, he came back with a broken anus,” she added.

Mrs Okezie said her son was frequently starved and beaten up by the senior students.
The Deeper Life High School is owned by a Pentecostal church, The Deeper Christian Life Ministry.

The school trended on Twitter on Monday, with several Nigerians calling on William Kumuyi, a pastor and founder of The Deeper Christian Life Ministry, to ensure that the victim gets justice.

“We will like to state that Deeper Life High School stands on the core values of integrity and uprightness and will not attempt to cover up any immoral act under any guise,” Thelma Malaka, the school’s education secretary, who spoke through a video uploaded on Twitter, Tuesday, said of the sexual abuse allegation.

“We have unflinching confidence in our God to resolve the issue such that at the end the truth will ultimately prevail,” she said.
The school suspended the principal of its Uyo campus and launched an investigation into the allegation.

But the school said on Tuesday that it is waiting for a release of the report of the Akwa Ibom State government’s investigation into the matter.

#JusticeForDonDavis: Parents of young boy allegedly molested at Deeper Life school demand N100m compensation from school authorities







The parents of 11-year- old Don-Davies Archibong, A JSS1 student of Deeper Life High School Idoro Uyo, who was allegedly sexually molested by his school mates two months after he resumed school, have demanded the sum of one hundred million naira as compensation from the school.

The parents made the demand in a letter addressed to the Principal of the School and written by their solicitors, Eagle-Eyes Network Chambers, and signed by David Okokon (Esq).
 
The letter which is entitled “Gross Child abuse, palpable molestation, serial bullying, criminal starvation, malicious oppression, and dubious maltreatment of master Don-Davies Archibong (11years old) by the Principal and Boarding Master, of Deeper Life Secondary School, Uyo”  and dated December 22, 2020, reads in part
 

“We are solicitors to Mr. and Mrs, Iniobong  Archibong, resident in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State herein after referred to as our client. We have the firm explicit and unequivocal instructions to write to you on the above subject matter.


It is indeed provocatively heartbroken, morally suicidal, religiously hypocritical that our client’s 11-year-old son was torrentially bombarded with physical, and inhuman torture of debilitating dimension with resultant castration of his human person, dignity, and childhood innocence.


We respectfully demand the payment of N100,000,000 within 21 days of the receipt of this letter as compensation to assuage the dehumanizing, horrendous torture and indignity our client’s son was subjected to and for his medical checkup and medication.


We demand that Deeper Life High School Idoro, Uyo to publish an unreserved apology to our clients in two National Newspapers; PUNCH, THISDAY,  and any other two local Newspapers circulated within Akwa Ibom State and its environs”

 
Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State government has withdrawn from investigating the incident and has left the investigation to the police and other relevant institutions. The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy Mr. Ini Ememobong who disclosed this, said the State Government will upon receipt of the investigation report and take necessary actions thereafter.

Deeper Life School Saga: Accused student denies bullying, molesting Don-Davies[/b]

One of the students who allegedly molested and bullied 11-year-old Don Davies Archibong in Deeper Life High School, Idoro, Uyo Akwa Ibom State, Shalom Omoniyi, has denied the allegation levelled against him.

Parents of Don-Davies, Mr and Mrs Iniobong Archibong, had in a letter to the School through their Solicitors, Eagle-Eyes Network Chambers, dated December 22, 2020, alleged that Shalom and Ola engaged in sexual molestation of Don-Davies , oppressed him because he bed-wets at night.

Narrating his own side of the story, 13-year-old SS1 student and an indigene of Ekiti state, Shalom Omoniyi said their Boarding master, identified as Mr Nseabasi Joseph only asked him and Ola to help Don-Davies learn how to keep himself clean.

Shalom said that Joseph only gave him the task because Don-Davies was his bunkmate for two weeks.

His words, “Don-Davies was my bunkmate. I resumed School on November 1, 2020, to meet him as my bunkmate. But I was told that he was removed from the Junior students hostel to the Senior Students because the boarding of the Junior hostel Mr Akpan was sick and left his apartment within the School premises.

“We did not bully him (Ola and I). I did not molest him. The Boarding Master, Mr Joseph Nseabasi asked us to make sure he is always clean because when he Pooh’s or Pees on himself, he doesn’t clean up. And when he smells, and we ask him if he defecated, he will say no.

“But when we ask him to pull down his boxer and bend down, we will discover that he defecated without cleaning his anus. We will now ask him to go and take his bath or clean himself. And when we notice that his clothes are smelling, we will tell him to go and wash the clothes, but he will refuse, instead, he will go and pack the smelly clothes inside his cupboard”

The accused minor also disclosed that Don-Davies was, however, moved back to the Junior Students hostel when Akpan returned before School closed on December 19, 2020.

He further disclosed that Don-Davies may have been angry that they (him and Ola) didn’t do those things Mr Akpan was doing for him before he fell ill, noting, “Mr Akpan used to wash his clothes, bath him. He also helps him to brush his teeth.

“Mr Akpan returned to School before School closed on December 19, 2020. When he returned, Don Davies was also moved back to his former hostel. He was moved to Senior students hostel because when Mr Akpan was sick the Junior students hostel did not have a boarding master. He was moved out of our hostel on November, 15.”

He further disclosed that when Don-Davies was in his hostel, a female nurse used to come about 6:30 am to give him drugs every day on an empty stomach.

Asked if the School punished him and Ola for bullying, and molesting Don-Davies anus, he responded no.

“Don Davies reported us to the School Principal, (Mrs Ndidi Solomon, already suspended) that Ola and I bully him, stressing, “The Principal invited of us to her office and She told us that she was going to punish us. Even when we tried to explain things to her, She refused to listen. But She did not punish us”

On his part, the accused student’s father, Mr Olusegun Omoniyi, resident in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, said since his son was admitted into that School from JSS1, that he has not received any bad report from the School concerning his conduct.

Mr Omoniyi said he was therefore surprised when Shalom, his son was mentioned in Don-Davies matter.

He explained that even when the Principal, Mrs Solomon contacted him saying that She was going to punish his son, She didn’t tell him the offence the boy had committed.

“So when I saw the story and the alleged involvement of my son, I decided to call my son and asked him why he bullied and molested the boy, but he said he did not do such thing.

“I cannot force my son to tell a lie. And I also allowed him to make statement o the Police last Thursday. And we are going to the police station again tomorrow (Tuesday) in continuation of this matter.

” I am not worried about anything because I believe that my son is telling the truth and I know the truth will prevail, no matter how long it takes. In fact, the whole story is too shallow for me to believe”, Mr Omoniyi said.

Masked Doctor Sneaked In, Tried Injecting Don Davis - Mother (Video)

The mother of Don Davis, Deborah Okezie has claimed that a Doctor sneaked into a hospital her son was admitted in to receive treatment and tried to Inject him, Igbere TV reports.

According to her, the suspect has been arrested and detained after the failed attempted to inject her son.

In a video she shared on social media, Deborah said this occurred after the management of the Deeper Life School claimed that her son was HIV positive, hence his weight loss.

Davis' mother who showed the hospital of the arrested doctor in a video she shared, said her son's hospital has been changed.

She also disclosed that the arrested doctor took her son's blood sample when he was enrolled in the Deeper Life School, and claimed he came to assist the doctor in the hospital he (Davis) was admitted in after being nabbed.

Sexual abuse: Don Davis’ mother, Deborah calls out Reno Omokri and Deeper Life Church fanatics (video)







Don Davis’ mother, Deborah Okezie has called out former presidential spokesperson Reno Omokri and Deeper Life church fanatics who she says have made life unbearable for her since she went public with the physical and sexual abuses her son allegedly suffered in a secondary school owned by the church. 
 
The woman who stated that she can't die in silence because the case is in court, alleged that while some wish death on her son, Reno Omokri asked her to apologize on the pages of newspapers for calling out the Deeper Life Church. 
 
She also called on authorities to call Deeper Life members and Reno Omokri to order, because she shouldn't be asked to keep quiet while others are ''running wild.''

Reno Omokri has reacted to Don Davis’ mother's claim that he called her and asked her to apologize to Deeper Life Church. 
 
Mrs. Deborah Okezie, the mother of an 11-year-old student of Deeper Life High School, Akwa Ibom, has been on social media demanding justice for her son who she claimed was physically and sexually molested by staff and students of the school. In a video she posted this morning, she alleged that Reno Omokri and some staunch members of Deeper Life Church have been calling to threaten her.

Reno has now reacted to the allegation. He said he will pay Mrs Okezie the N100 million she is requesting from the school if she can prove that he contacted her and threatened her.

Be very careful of what you say to me or I will give it back to you 100 percent - Don Davis' mother slams Apostle Suleman after he accused her of blackmailing Reno Omokri







Don Davis' mother, Deborah Okezie has slammed Apostle Johnson Suleman after he accused her of blackmailing former presidential spokesperson, Reno Omokri with her claim of him calling and asking her to apologize to Pastor W.F Kumuyi on pages of newspapers for going public with the abuses her son faced in a Deeper Life Secondary School he owns. 
 
Reacting to Reno Omokri's video in which he said he will give her N100 million if she proves that he called her, Deborah stated that he should stop insulting her with the amount. She added that she can account for the little she has and further asked if he could do so. 
 
However reacting to this, Apostle Suleman who is the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International insinuated that she was blackmailing Reno Omokri. He affirmed that the former presidential spokesperson will never behave like that and further stated that adding lies to an incident is evil. 
 
Firing back at him, Deborah told Apostle Suleman to be careful of what he says to her because she can give it back 100 percent.
