Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has suspended his Chief of Staff, Dr ACB Agbazuere.

Governor Ikpeazu directed his immediate suspension through a statement made available to IGBERE TV by Barr Chris Ezem,
Secretary to the State Government.

Although, Gov. Ikpeazu did not give any reason for suspending his Chief of Staff, IGBERE TV had seen a video of Dr. Agbazuere spraying money to controversial pastor, Odumeje.

The All Progressives Congress, Abia State chapter, on Sunday, asked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to sack his Chief Of Staff, Dr. ACB Agbazuere.


IGBERE TV had reported that Ikpeazu suspended his Chief of Staff, Dr ACB Agbazuere after he was recorded on video spraying money to controversial prophet, Odumeje.


In a statement made available to IGBERE TV by Comrade Benedict C. Godson, Abia APC Publicity Secretary, said the party received the news of the suspension of Barr. ACB Agbazuere, Chief of Staff to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu with surprise because the action that led to the suspension demands that he should be sacked immediately.

APC further said that the Agbazuere has money to throw around while Abia State roads are now death traps.


According to the statement, "we've been complaining about the irrationality of the officials of this PDP led administration, but people don't understand. What our people saw on video is just a tip of the iceberg to their squandermania nature."

"What the Chief of Staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu did was a huge slap on the faces of Abia Health Workers and other Government workers that are being owed backlogs of salaries."

"He has insulted workers at HMB, Abia Poly and other people who are dying of hunger. He should be sacked with his sack letter made public."

"Nobody has right to mock Abians in that manner as he did. So, the Government has money to waste while our people are dying of hunger with our state looking like war ravaged zone."

"The Chief of Staff has money to throw around while our roads are now death traps? What manner of wickedness is this? We're calling for two things today;".

"Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu should sack his Chief of Staff without further delay, and let the Government render an unreserved apology to Abians between today Sunday and tomorrow Monday because this is extremely provoking."

Nigerians Demand Arrest Of Agbazuere, Sacked Abia COS. Police Keep Mum

Nigerians are calling for the sack, arrest as well as immediate prosecution of the Abia governor’s Chief of Staff, Dr ACB Agbazuere, “for abusing the naira note”, a symbol of the country's sovereignty.

Agbazuere was on Sunday suspended from office after he was caught on camera 'spraying' money on controversial Nigerian pastor, Odumeje, right inside his Office at the Abia Government House, in Umuahia.

Despite public outcry and wide condemnation, nothing much has been done with management of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and authorities of the Nigerian Police Force keeping mum.

According to the CBN Act, spraying of Naira notes amounts to “abusing the country’s symbol of sovereignty.” The CBN had equally warned that abusing and spraying of Naira notes may get you a jail term.

“If a celebrant is dancing and you spray him/her, you may go to jail from the party venue, because the law enforcement agents will be there, waiting to arrest you,” the Nation's apex bank warned.

Nigerians who are concerned about the expediency of such law, morality and sincerity of the CBN as well as wellness of the currency, are now wondering why the Nation's apex bank or relevant security agencies are yet to act despite public outcry.

“Can you now see that the law is made for the poor in this country? How come a public official(ACB Agbazuere) has not been sacked, arrested or prosecuted in accordance with the law?,” a social media user, Francis Ukamaka opined.

A financial expert, Mr. Ikechukwu Frank, who added his voice, said, “the claim that ‘spraying of naira notes is an offence’ is true. Section 21 of the CBN Act 2007 clearly states that spraying of Naira notes is an offence punishable by six months imprisonment or a fine of N50,000 or both for offenders.”

“Spraying of naira notes is an offence. CBN spent millions of naira every year for campaign against naira abuse, here a public official is disobeying the law and the apex bank is unbothered. Truly Nigeria is a contradiction under this regime,” Frank claimed.

The CBN director of Corporate Communications Department, could not be reached for comment. But a source close to the Office, confirmed it was a punishable offence to abuse the currency.

“It is a very big offence to spray our naira notes,” he said, “it is the symbol of our national sovereignty. The law is very clear on it. When you abuse the notes by spraying them, you get a jail term, or a N50,000 fine or both.”

The source, however, refused to say if the CoS would be arrested or prosecuted. When this reporter pressed further, the CBN's staff said the police was in a better position to answer. “It is the duty of the law enforcement agencies to catch offenders and take them to court,” he said.

But when contacted, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, declined comment. The police spokesman hung up the phone immediately this reporter mentioned the matter.

Subsequent calls failed to connect as the phone line returned the "line busy" response several times. He was yet to reply text messages sent to his known phone line as at press time.

Section 21 of the CBN Act 2007 prescribes “imprisonment for a term not less than six months or to a fine not less than N50,000 or to both such fine and imprisonment” for anyone guilty of “spraying of, dancing or matching on the Naira or any note issued by the Bank during social occasions”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, spraying of, dancing or matching on the Naira or any note issued by the Bank during social occasions or otherwise howsoever shall constitute an abuse and defacing of the Naira or such note and shall be punishable under Sub-section (1) of this section,” the Act stressed.

The law, in Section 5 (i) goes further to define “Matching” to include “spreading, scattering or littering of any surface with any Naira notes or coins and stepping thereon, regardless of the value, volume, occasion or intent” ...

While in 5(ii) “Spraying” includes adorning, decorating or spraying anything or any person or any part of any person or the person of another with Naira notes or coins or sprinkling or sticking of Naira notes or coins in a similar manner regardless of the amount, occasion or the intent.”

Agbazuere: 'Enemies Behind My Suspension, No Cause For Alarm' - Ex Abia CoS Brag


Following his suspension from office as Chief of Staff to the Abia state governor, Dr ACB Agbazuere has blamed unnamed "enemies" as being responsible for his ordeal, Igbere TV reports.

This is even as Agbazuere who was suspended after he was caught on camera 'spraying' money on a popular clergyman at the Abia Government House, bragged that there was no cause for alarm.

A source close to the chief of staff office, who would not want to be mentioned, told Igbere TV that Agbazure spoke while addressing a circle of friends in his Office after the news of his sack got to him.

“Agbazuere described himself as a child of light who will always defeat darkness,” the source, who was among the "friends" addressed said.

“It is a matter of time, no cause for alarm, I will return [to my position], I have been assured of that,” our source quoted Agbazuere as saying.

SAG: We'll Stage Protest in Umuahia if Ikpeazu Recalls ex-CoS

Youths under the aegis of the Save Abia Group (SAG) have threatened to embark on protest against Governor Okezie Ikpeazu if the Abia state government recalls the recently suspended Chief of Staff, ACB Agbazuere.

The group's position was contained in a statement made available to Igbere TV on Monday, in reaction to the trending report where the ex-COS bragged about being returned to office soon, despite calls for his arrest and prosecution for abuse of the naira, dereliction of duty and desecrating the government house.

Agbazuere was quoted to have bragged before his circle of friends at a location, following his suspension, that, “I will return [to my position] soon, no cause for alarm”, blaming unnamed “enemies” for his ordeal.

But in a statement on Monday, the Save Abia Group vowed to stage a heavy statewide protest starting from Umuahia, the Abia State capital if Governor Ikpeazu recalls his suspended CoS Agbazuere back to his former position.

Singed by Chairman of the group, Hon. David Chukwumerije, the group said Agbazuere should be sacked from office immediately and be made to face the law and prosecuted instead of suspension.

The group noted that the embattled ex-CoS lacks the repertoire to be the Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, threatening to embark on protest if Agbazuere is not sacked within seven days.

“It is no longer news that the Abia State Chief of Staff, Dr ACB Agbazuere has been suspended from office by the state Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu,” SAG said.

“We want to categorically state that the suspension is not enough punishment for his gross misconducts.

“His action is very disdainful, disgraceful and will require time to amend because he lacks the repertoire to be in such position.

“Agbazuere should never be recalled back. And if Ikpeazu doesn't sack him within the next seven days, we will stage a heavy protest in Umuahia to show our anger and frustration over the terrible conditions of Abia State,” the statement added.
