Dr. Anu of Med Contour has been suspended from the medical profession in Nigeria and she also cannot practice anywhere in the world







Dr Anu Adepoju has been suspended from the medical profession in Nigeria following multiple claims of malpractice and botched surgeries at her clinic, Med Contour.
 
A number of women who went to Med Contour for cosmetic surgery complained about having complications that they still suffer from. One particular patient was rushed to LUTH and eventually died after being operated upon by Dr Anu.
 
Earlier this year, LUTH petitioned the medical panel following the death of the victim of Dr Anu's procedure who died after being transferred to its hospital (read here).
 
Also, this year, popular social media personality, Omotola Taiwo Temilade, popularly known as Omohtee, called Dr Anu out following a botched surgery that left her with complications.
 
Dr Anu has continued to insist that she's a qualified cosmetic surgeon and has undergone the necessary training. She said she is a graduate of University of Lagos College of Medicine Class of 2015, after which she went abroad to study cosmetic surgery, making her a Physician member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
 
She added that she has performed over 300 successful surgeries and blamed patients' complications on their failure to follow post-surgery care guideline that she gives because they think they know better.
 
Dr Anu was pictured in court in July 2020 when the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, arraigned her before Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court, Lagos, over her services which allegedly resulted in the death of Nneka (read here). 
 
She has now been suspended from the medical profession in Nigeria and, according to popular medical doctor,  Dr Olufunmilayo. He said she cannot practice anywhere else in the world.
 
Dr Olufunmilayo shared the news, writing: "Dr. Anu of Med Contour has now been suspended from the medical profession in Nigeria. Remember her viral story was all over social media when Omohtee said she ruined her buttocks. Dr Anu was alleged of also killing a beauty queen in 2018 who she did surgery on.
 
"Dr. Anuoluwapo Olufunmi Adepoju has been suspended from the medical profession in Nigeria with effect from 5th November 2020. The suspension Order was issued by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel pursuant to powers conferred on it by s15(3)c of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act Cap M8 LFN 2004.
 
"She graduated from College of Medicine Unilag 2017. By December 2018 she carried out a Plastic Reconstructive Aesthetic Surgery procedure on a patient who developed complications and went on to die from the complications.
 
"She was a House Officer when she carried out the procedure. Her suspension is till further notice. It is pending the determination of the case by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal."
 
Dr Olufunmilayo added: "If you read the Dr Anu story earlier this year on Twitter, this is to confirm she has now been suspended from medical practice. She only graduated from The College of Medicine UniLag 2017. Then she did butt enlargement operation on a beauty queen in 2018. Sadly the patient died."
 
On whether Dr Anu can practice elsewhere, the doctor said: "Some people say 'well Dr Anu can practice elsewhere even if suspended in Nigeria' Actually NO. She cannot. As a Nigerian-trained doctor, To work anywhere in the world, You need a 'Certificate of Good Standing' from Medical Council, Nigeria. And you can’t get that if suspended."

Dr Anu of Med Contour pictured in court as she's arrested and charged following allegations that a botched surgery led to the death of a patient







Dr Adepoju Anuoluwapo was pictured today arriving at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi.
 
Dr Anu, a cosmetic surgeon who owns Med Contour, was reportedly arrested on Wednesday, July 1.
 
Her trial kicks off today, July 3, and police brought her to court this morning as seen in photos shared by investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo.
 

 
The medical doctor is in court over allegations that a failed cosmetic surgery carried out by her led to the death of one Mrs. Nneka Miriam Barbra Onwuzuligbo.
 
She is also charged with failiure to comply with a summons by the FCCPC Nigeria.
 
Back in April, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) shut down her clinic, Med Contour. The FCCPC also began investigations on the clinic after receiving petitions against the facility’s owner, Dr Anu.
 
In a recent interview with The Boss Newspaper, Dr Anu reacted to the FCCPC shutting down her clinic. She said it was "unlawfully done" 
 
She added: "The FCCPC, without reaching out to me to get information on my competence to run the medical facility, unlawfully entered the facility, vandalised and closed it up. This is totally against the rule of law."
 
She also blamed the sealing of the property on an "unsubstantiated claim" made by a social media influencer "about a procedure she received at the clinic."
 
Dr Anu, who graduated from the College of Medicine at the University of Lagos in 2015, insisted that she's good at her job and has carried out "well over 300 procedures" after she "had extensive training in cosmetic surgery."
 
However, complaints from dissatisfied customers got the attention of the FCCPC and she was charged to court. 
 
The case is "Federal Republic of Nigeria v. Dr. Adepoju Anuoluwapo & MedContour" and FCCPC Nigeria is the prosecutor.
 
According to the charge sheet, Dr Anu "without sufficient cause" failed or refused "to appear before the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in compliance with the Commission's Summons date 15th day of April 2020."
 
Dr Anu is also accused of making false claims about her services to prospective clients.
 
The charge sheet reads in part: "The allegations are that the Defendants' services are unsafe for consumers and that the Defendants made false, misleading and deceptive representation in relation to the marketing of their services to them. In particular, the above mentioned Vivian Onwuzuligbo, a member of the family of one Mrs Nneka Miriam Barbra Onwuzuligbo (now deceased), alleged that the deceased died as a result of the failed Defendants' cosmetic surgery and she is privy to the events that led to the demise of the deceased."
